Imagine. You are a cashier at a gas station in japanifornia. A HAWK swoops down, grabbing a plastic package of bean buns from the shelves, then LANDS on the counter. It sticks its beak into its bandana (it is wearing a bandana) and pulls out a wad of bills. Sets the money on the counter. Flies away.

Just as you're recovering from the sheer wtf, the bird flies back in and shows you a drivers liscense and you realize, oh yeah, that has alcohol in it.

Phoenix insisting that no one else knows the ~real~ Edgeworth but him is deeply funny. You didn’t know him. You didn’t know him back when he was 9 years old.

Something I'm thinking VERY hard about is how Starbuck sort of inspired Phoenix to start seeing himself as a mentor to Athena and Apollo. This assumption happened already before with Pearl in 5-6. She assumes Phoenix is Athena's mentor. But it seems Phoenix finally accepts that kinda role after seeing how good of a role model Starbuck was to Clay.

Apollo apparently told Starbuck about Phoenix. I can just imagine Apollo fanboying about him to Starbuck, and then suddenly Phoenix is his boss and he kinda sucks lol. It seems whatever Apollo said, Starbuck seems to assume from that that Phoenix is his mentor. I wonder what Apollo told about Phoenix?

It seems that he's also happy that Apollo has a mentor in Phoenix! (Though the poor guy does not know their relationship is still in repairs from aa4 lol)

That kinda sounds like Athena, Apollo and Phoenix's dynamic. At this point, I think the writer's might've been pushing for a parallel between Phoenix and Apollo and Starbuck and Clay. The game drew attention to Apollo and Clay's voice training, and Starbuck told Phoenix and Athena how Clay's "you're fine!" encourages him.

This clearly connects Clay and Apollo as the protégés- and the fact Starbuck finally convinced Phoenix he got that mentor in him makes me think this is intentional.

And if we're doing literary analysis... If "you're fine!" encourages Starbuck, does it encourage Phoenix too? That would be kinda goofy, especially since Phoenix in this same exact scene seems to be embarrassed by screaming that he's fine lmao

I got a lot of issues with SoJ as a whole but man I can't help but love phoenixs design in it (excluding changing his eye color) cuz like they're such minor changes but they feel so major. dunno what it is about that little piece of hair that won't lay down that adds So Much

i guess it's because they make him look older, in a way? more mature in the way you'd expect a Seasoned Lawyer to look like. like you've got the little piece of hair that won't stay down you've got the new waistcoat you've got the golden chain of the locket. overall i think it's a really good design! which, if i'm gonna be honest here, is why i sort of have a problem with it. phoenix isn't a seasoned lawyer! he wasn't even a lawyer for three full years before getting disbarred! and although he was working on the mason system that doesn't exactly. Count. the man was wearing comfy clothes for seven years straight you'd think he'd at least complain a little bit about having to wear a stuffy suit all the time again. it's like i love the suit i love the new look but it just contributes to the feeling that he's acting so extremely Fake

Veteran Attorney Phoenix Wright

Finally sharing the design for my no-disbarment au. Ten years working in the justice system has still left him jaded and cynical, but he also plays it up a lot so people have a hard time reading him. He's the legendary Turnabout Terror after all, he needs to keep people on their toes.

One of the most fun and interesting things about the ace attorney games is that all of the main characters are deeply flawed.

From Edgeworth's disappearing/reappearing act in aa2, not to mention literally quoting his own SUICIDE NOTE in COURT:

And then in aai, his acting above the law honestly all the time because his special interest is the truth and he's certain he's the best detective around, which is justifiable but kind of extreme,

To the absolute ASS Phoenix was to Apollo all throughout ajaa, which i don't have receipts for but you remember, and his consistent trend of caustically lying to grown people capable of making decisions because he doesn't want to upset them in the moment (eg, the apollo-trucy-thalassa relation that is still hidden),

To the absolutely horrendous SHIT Apollo pulled during Turnabout for Tomorrow, which includes but is not limited to assisting terrorism (encouraging Aura Blackquill to continue the trial), asking for his close friend and motiveless colleague Athena to be arrested for murder, and leaving his ACTUAL SISTER AT GUNPOINT BY A RADICAL TERRORIST, all because he couldn't handle not having trust for like a day. If he had waited literally a day, the trial would have continued (bc at that point Terrans murder hadn't been solved) AND the TWELVE random people and FUCKING TRUCY could have escaped the space station!!! But nooo, polly, do egg on the murderously radicalized Blackquill sibling who spent years hating an actual child SURE GREAT IDEA.

Even the secondary characters have no concept of normal, with simon blackquill being a convicted death row inmate for most of dual destinies, Athena having enough trauma to kill a horse, trucy and maya with abandonment issues, pearly dealing with everything morgan and dahlia did, and Lana and ema's whole thing, not to mention the von karma fiasco.

Honestly the most normal person in all the games is klavier, who is a world famous pop star with an insane and violent serial poisoner as a brother.

I love all the characters in this game, nick and miles are my blorbos, and I adore nearly everybody else, but damn if this game doesn't make some extremely flawed little guys. Ask my parents or friends, they'll tell you how angry I got at points, lmao.

And i haven't even played SOJ or TGAA yet. I should probably be worried.
