Chapter 88: Spy

This chapter made me quite sad. I've had people I thought were my friends betray me, and I never want to see them again. Momo is a lot more outspoken than me tho lol. Plus the misunderstanding is really painful on Vamola's part. I want to see Momo and Vamola get along again...

(my ii3 rewatch is going swell! i'm quite enjoying myself.)

it is sort of funny how nickel goes from blaming everything on balloon in ii2 to blaming everything on clover in ii3. he very much wants to contextualize his misfortune, wanting someone to get mad at (he doesn't like feeling in the wrong personally, and i doubt he'd like to think he's just unlucky); when he starts to get along with balloon in ii3, he needs another scapegoat, and clover's the perfect pick...

as i was saying, nickel seems to have some hidden guilt about treating balloon badly before, with his stubborn, heels-dug-in hatred of balloon fading away now that he doesn't have to save face in front of baseball and suitcase. of course, he wants to save face in front of balloon too, so he half-passes it off as box suggesting it (he always wants a passive lackey to help him push for what he really wants, huh?). nickel's caught in a limbo of not wanting to seem like he had a sudden heel-face turn/change of heart, but also wanting to express that he genuinely enjoys balloon's company (because he's actually letting himself do so now). he isn't being explicitly nice to balloon, but he's simultaneously secretive about the fact that he only did it because "box" told him to -- he doesn't want balloon to think his amicability is nothing more than obligatory, but he doesn't want to be vulnerable either. really interesting stuff.

in any event, nickel's friendlier with balloon now, so obviously balloon could no longer be his scapegoat. he still doesn't like feeling guilty for his own mistakes, nor does he enjoy his troubles being blameless, so he picks clover as his target: largely because he's cynical and can't cope with the idea of pure goodwill, happiness, and innocence which clover represents. she is everything that he isn't, but at the same time what he wants to be; he resents that. this cynicism about clover probably connects with his cynicism about balloon in ii2 -- he initially couldn't wrap his head around a manipulative person changing for the better. weirdly, he still hasn't completely gotten over balloon's heel-face turn as of now (he still doesn't believe in that kind of change, at least not fully), and yet he's still chummy with balloon. as far as i can tell, nickel is strongly projecting his own reservations onto balloon: that he himself can't change and be a good person.

Then it got to the end of the stream when he finally SAID the word "die" AND YOU COULD HEAR PAINTY QUIETLY PROCESSING HIS WORDS IN THE BACKGROUND?? MAN. THAT HIT LIKE A TONNE OF BRICKS. SHIT DUDE.

okok wait im giving the full story with all the characters. starting last year

so this guy im making up random ass names lets call him jacob. so its the first day of bio last year and i get sat next to jacob and im like oooh hes really cute. but he has a gf so i dont think anything im like oh he's really good looking but im not gonna try anything. ofc i still thought he was cute but i didnt let myself crush on him just because. like idek his gf but from what i heard she was nice. so like whatever i only had a heart attack when we made eye contact and reviewed for the test together

SO WERE DOING A LAB TOGETHER BECAUSE ITS BIOLOGY RIGHT? and were putting stuff in test tubes and idk getting water and other liquid or whatever. and then this is the best part omg. so im at the sink filling up and getting more water to clean it out and he FULLY SAYS MY NAME, LIAM FULLY SAYS MY NAME TO GET MY ATTENTION. HE KNEW MY NAME. NOT JUST MY NAME BUT MY NICKNAME. I ALMOST DIED. and then he asks for my help and i rush over and whatever but O M G.

so uh i was freaking out but then ofc nothing happened between us. i remember later we had spanish together but thats it. i always kept having a crush on liam all year but nothing happened. he was just kinda my crush and it was great but whatever.

but then but then this year ofc i have class with jacob again, and now hes broken up with his girlfriend so...? also i havent seen liam for so long and augh i dont know now that i think about him he's only okay. also my friend told me she saw liam and he doesnt wear glasses anymore??? and me personally i love glasses (jacob also has glasses) and i am very upset abt that

PART 1 - The Bare, Bare Bones

Okay so I have a very general idea of what kind of stuff I’m going for so far.

The entrance is going to be the bamboo forest that we see Jack waking up in during the Pilot episode. Ofc imma put the tennis shoes there too 🗣️‼️‼️

The path’ll kinda curve to either the left or right side of the beach (maybe both?) and then BAM. BEACH.

I honestly don’t know what I’m gonna use for the fuselage. I might find something later tho lol

And there’ll be like, tent items and allat there’ll be an actual tent that has a bunch of medical supplies and magazines and stuff in it when you go inside of it. Cause guess what?? THAT TENT IS GONNA BE SAWYER’SSSS RAHH and another actual tent thats SAYID’S TENT THING THAT HE SET UP FOR SHANNON cause he was SO like… he was so… omg theres no word to describe how MMMPH that was it was just so AUGH

And just before the fuselage the bamboo will shift into normal trees and there’ll be a couple nooks and crannies you can sift upwards through to get to the pascal flats that lead to… THE BARRACKS!! I’ll add the pylons too ofc (which will not be very good for my character since he’s supposed to be Mikhail 😭)

and oh boy. oh boy oh boy the BARRACKS are where its at omg. This is where all the villager houses are going to be!! And do not even get me started on the AMOUNT OF ITEMS THAT PERFECTLY FIT THE BARRACKS. IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE. ITS SO CRAZYYYYYAHHHHHH

there’ll be 2 exits to The Barracks: One thats like a dedicated path to the Submarine Dock (which leads to the actual dock in game!) and a hedge thing off to the left of the barracks with a semi hidden gap in it, similar to the bushes that Sayid, Locke, Danielle and Kate peeked through whilst trying to “rescue” Jack from the others. This will lead to the Pneumatic tube dump, and reenter the Pascal flats.

AUGH this is so difficult. thank you for the top 3 option but even then this was like the greatest challenge of my career there are so many good muppets...this list is definitely subject to change in the future

uhhh one of them definitely has to be Kermit! I know Kermit is kind of the default answer, but he's the default answer for a reason - he's such a versatile character while still retaining such a clear personality, and you can really put Kermit into any situation and it'll work! He's such an interesting character to look at evolution-wise, too, considering he's one of the earliest muppets; Sam and Friends-era Kermit is still recognizable as Kermit, but he's so distinct at the same time. Also this is going to be so cheesy but Kermit is genuinely such a comforting figure to me, that frog is my dad for real <3 sometimes if I'm having a rough day I'll put on a playlist of Kermit Sesame Street moments and just watch him talk to kids or draw the letter J in the air lol

Another is Red Fraggle! Red is SUCH a good character oh my gosh, the Fraggle Rock writers struck gold with her. Fraggle Rock does such a good job at making its characters flawed, if that makes sense, and Red is no exception; she's mean, she's self-obsessed, she refuses to admit when she's wrong, and I LOVE her for it ^-^ but at the same time too she isn't JUST the mean self-obsessed one! She's also the silly one, and the one who Gets Cotterpin when nobody else does and starts a massive domino chain that leads to harmony between the Doozers and the Fraggles, and a great singer, and the star athlete, and Mokey's Totally Platonic Gal Pal, and UGHH I could gush about Red all day she's so well-rounded. It certainly helps that Karen Prell (her puppeteer) is tied for my Favorite Muppet Performer alongside Richard Hunt :)

SPEAKING OF RICHARD HUNT I LOVE FORGETFUL JONES SO MUCH!! probably not the most well-known character, but I was suffering with some memory issues in late 2023 (which thankfully seem to be gone), and as silly as it sounds Forgetful made it somewhat tolerable :) he definitely started out as a joke character, but Richard Hunt was SUCH a good puppeteer and really elevated him to a whole other level. He's so caring and kind and the fact that canonically the two things he'll always remember are his girlfriend's name (Clementine) and that he loves her is just 🥺 oughhh I love Forgetful and Clementine so much, I wish they had appeared more often (and I wish I could actually find the episodes where they do CURSE YOU HBO MAX FOR GETTING RID OF ALL OF YOUR SESAME STREET STUFF)

More inanimate insanity season 3 episode 15 spoilers and then i go sleep

Okay the episode was actually... pretty okay??? And a little entertaining?? Maybe it was just bcus I was excited to see what kind of trainwreck was gonna be up after uh... everything with the last one... but yeah

I'm glad they at least put a bandaid over the atrocious decision of them trying to make her not use her files augh.

The fact that Lifering validated her disability aid at all is honestly a pretty big win and I'm happy that he's consistently supportive with her. Like fucking FINALLY someone isn't being shitty about her files!!!

I like the idea of Test Tube still being untrusting towards Cabby but I wish this was a thing earlier rather than the episodes dropping and picking back up plot points whenever. Kinda wish this led to some sort of reflection on her past mistakes. Maybe she realizes later on that she's been doing this a lot with people like Mic and Fan and that she hasn't learned as much as she thought (bear w/ me here if the details are wrong I've only seen clips of season 2)

Also Blueberry and Candle both came off really strong this episode. no fucking idea what they were trying to do with Candle lmao that shit was weird. Did they just.. kinda repeat her arc again but bad?

Also I thought Blueberry was gonna reveal that he tripped and died but ig not. Really wish they didn't push Blueberry's personality in this really weird direction ever since the elimination/exit interview it just feels so weird and offputting to me personally.

I actually thought about Yin-Yang getting out this way (him giving the milk to Cabby when he doesn't realize he's being voted out) so glad that came true ig lol. Wish Nickel got out though genuinely I really don't like him

"Objective: Eliminate Canon Jimmy Z." The robot kept repeating, it approached to him with that big tube, spinning in it's hand to make it sharper than a sword.

The other ones were running everywhere, fighting the villains, but losing their souls in the process.

Everything was going on too fast for him, he felt like he could just faint, but he couldn't even think straight without a new light from the souls came out or blood splashing from the monsters and even from his friends. Flirwins, fairies, wizards and hunters all fighting all the clones of the villains, and yet, it was all in vain.

He remembered tripping over and looking up, last thing he saw; That stupid robot moving so fast it was a blur.

"NO!" He screamed, waking up. "Shit, it was just a nightmare..." He looked around inside their fast-made-up-tent, just in case something was around them. He hated having those nightmares, another prove that he hadn't changed that much.

"AH WHAT?!" Scarlet jumped from her sleep. "Augh... What happened?"

"I hate that fucking robot..." Jimmy muttered.

Once Scarlet finished opening her eyes, she saw Jimmy packing his stuff.

"JZ, is everything alright?"

"Oh, jeje... Nothing." Jimmy said. "We have to go."

"What? Why?"

"We just... Better not lose anymore time."

"For real? It's the fourth time this week."

"It's just that... Well..."

"You had one of those nightmares and now you can't sleep, right?"

"Uhh..."

"Is it about how you got in this mess?" Scarlet rolled inside her sleeping bag to face Jimmy.

"A little bit, yeah."

"Damn, was it that bad?"

"Yeah, it was horrible." He ckucled. "Meh, that was like a little bit more than two years."

"Two years and you still have nightmares about it? You watched your doppelganger die or something?"

"Or something."

Scarlet groaned a bit. "Seriously, why is the answer with you always or something?"

"You wouldn't believe me if I tell you."

"Come on, dude! You took me out on this road trip about three weeks ago! I watched my doppelganger die in front of me and the whole world is screwed up, I think I could believe what happened to you."

"You think?"

"Of course!" Scarlet incorporated to sit down. "No, tell me."

Jimmy chuckled and sighed. "Well... In a summary, after the collision started, my dopplegangers, and my friends' doppelgangers started showing up in front of us... I less than some weeks we had clones of us in every corner... We started hanging out and my doppelgangers even thought me some tips from their world, that's part of the key of how I survived this long."

"Ooohhh, so you had like a... JZ club." Scarlet said. "What were they like?"

"Well, one of them was a royal guard, another one was a wizard, there was also this wolfwalker... A monster hunter, a spy and... Those are the ones I gathered with the most."

"Wow, that sounds cool."

"Yeah, kinda." Jimmy scratched his neck, trying not to remember the worst parts. "My group and I had some... Enemies, we would fight them very often hehe... Well, it turned out that the villains and their dopplegangers had also teamed up and... For no reason or at least for no reason I know... They arrived and started attacking everybody but not to kill the but to... Steal their souls from their bodies."

"Uhh, wait, wait, wait." Scatled cut him off. "Souls?! How did you know those were their souls?"

"Bodies can function correctly without a soul, but this one's don't do anything while the souls are the conscience of a person, besides, someone of the villain team mencione dit while inspecting what was left in the Tortuga camp."

"Alright... Let me guess, you were the only one who those guys didn't get the should because you attacked them back."

"Actually, the reason why I survived is way more pathetic than that."

"Oh, really? Try me."

"One of the villains had robot clones of me and my friends. But my robot clone was faulty so it actually didn't work so well... I don't know why they didn't took my soul, they decided to kill me instead."

"Holy crap. Did you fight it?"

"Ja! Of course not... I ran away from it... The only reason I'm still alive is because the robot couldn't difference between being passed out and being dead. I woke up in the Tortuga sorrunded by bodies and I hid there for almost a whole year."

"... You ran away? That doesn't sound like you!"

"You'd be surprised on how scaredy I used to be."

Scarlet couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Alright, seriously, tho. That's some rough origin story."

"Yeah... I guess."

"Now, I wonder... Where did you get the zombie apocalypse movie outfit?"

"..."

"... Oh shit, where did you get it from?"

"I stole it from a corpse..."

"... And the corpse was your same size?! You lucky bastard!"

"Where did you get yours?"

Meanwhile, very far away from that place, Zach, or at least one of them all, was mentally getting ready to enter the big room where his boss was, ever since he appeared the villain group was always afraid... He had already taken the soul of one of them and, God, one could tell it was painful.

"Alright... I can do this, just tell him we're all done and what's next." He slowly pushed the door, his legs were trembling. It was so dark he couldn't see his face. Damn, at least he wouldn't have to see his face.

"Uhh, sir?" He said weakly.

"Zach! Come in, come in."

He walked through the hall and saw them, the jars with the souls, all of them labeled... Shit... All of them were labeled!

"So... This where you're keeping all the souls." Zach said.

"Yes. Exactly." The boss said.

"Well... All I wanted to inform is that... We're not missing any soul, like... I know you've been receiving the souls one by one and-... Well, we're all done collecting."

"Hmm." Te boss's eyes were barely able to be seen, but he could tell he was angry. "Yeaaahh, about that, I want to ask you something."

"(Shit shit shit shit shit...) Sure, w-whatever you need to know."

The boss chuckled. "How stupid do you think I am?"

"Stupid? Y-you're not-!"

"Oh really?" He said with a voice so strong Zach swore it made the whole room tremble. "Look over there, Zach. You can see I have every soul labeled, right?"

"Yeah."

"That means I can tell when something is missing."

"Yeah... And your point is...?"

"My point is that I heard rumors that you tried to kill one of them, didn't you?"

"What? Of course we wouldn't! We..."

The boss arched an eyebrow. "Zach..."

"I- I swear! We collected them all! We did the jo-"

"Now... Tell me, why did you try to kill him?" The boss' voice became way more serious.

"Well, be- because he..." Zach took a deep breath. "This is Canon Jimmy we're talking about! The weakest of them all! I... I don't see how his soul could be anywhere useful!"

"Oh... Seems like someone doesn't understand the power of souls. Not to mention that he disobeyed my command of collecting all the souls!"

"Yeah, well... You... You want that soul? Because he's surely dead by now...."

"I sense him... He's alive."

"... What?! But I know him! He's a scared cat wimp! How could've he survive?!"

"I don't know but he did. Seems like you didn't killed him properly. Anyway, coming to think of it... I have a better idea."

The boss stood up, facing Zach. "To compensate for that I don't have Canon Jimmy's soul... I'll need to grab another one in his place." He stretched dhe hand towards Zach.

"Oh no... Sir, I can handle this! It was just a mistake but I promise you I'll do better this time!"

"Sorry, you already have a replacement." He spoke and snatched Zach with his power to prevent him from escaping. He was the most powerful being in the world... And he had finally recovered stre ght enough to take a soul out of a body without even thinking of it. Zach felt the most intense pain in his life... But then... It all shut down as he fell to the ground... "Let that be a lesson. This is what happens if you ever try to disobey me..."

"Yes sir..." Another voice said. Another Zach, but this one was different. Probably one of the most skilled Zachs of the multiverse.

"My, what a talent you have. He never noticed you were there."

"Yeah... I suppose."

Ymmv if you're squicked by imprisonment and/or medical experimentation but it's clearly tagged and there are chapter content warnings! (Light spoiler but) I wanna give a big hand for Steve getting to join in on the monster shenanigans and an absolutely stunning take on the upside down. Almost complete!

I'll Hear You Scream by whileawaythehours, 50k - AUGH. Vampire!Eddie but it's mostly aftermath, and WHAT an aftermath, ooh boy. Definitely a heavy angst start, but proceeded to lovely softness at this point. Features Steve with a big-ass sword, unfortunately overshadowed by circumstance, but a cool image nonetheless.

Lacking Substance Not Fear by ItCanBePalped, 10k - Steve does music! It's Steve & Robin centric so far (possibly my favorite relationship in the show, and excellently done here) with the adventures of keeping Steve's head in one piece. Tackling IRL consequences of things like head injuries can get heavy fast, but so far this is mostly fluff! Steve Is Okay. Robin, I love you.

Some similarities with "the most remarkable thing" by greatunironic in that it's a "five/ten/many years later" of how everybody's lives go after the upside down is done for good, Extensive Steddie Pining, and they both made me tear up with MANY feelings.

Punishers, Pretenders by beetlesandstars, 4k - a brand spanking new adventure by the writer of Feed On You and To Be Loved For No Reason At All. Only one chapter so far, but the tags imply it's gonna be a doozy (possibly with cuddles 👀) and I always love seeing the songs and band names people come up with for Eddie's rockstar career. Hang in there, Steve!

Descent into the Depths of the Earth (Or at Least Milwaukee) by disastardly, 40k - LAST CHAPTER COMING UP!!! Steve takes the nerds to gen con and has just now registered his own crush and I am LIVING for the gentleness.

standing up the dead by heartofwinterfell, 30k - just an epilogue coming up!! Max pov of Max and Eddie hopping realities together, I Love Them and I love the creativity around the premise, and the execution is A++++

Oh Boy, You’re the Devil! by prettydizzeed, 11k - I really can't describe it better than the summary: "A campy, satirical take on the Satanic Panic, featuring undercover missions to the local church service, falling for the antichrist, and engineering an Easter miracle." Incredible. to unsettle the foundation by the same author has me SO excited, Eddie and Kali is a combination bound to explode.

The Strange Case of Wordgirl and Miss Crimes: Chapter 4

Wordgirl felt she could do nothing anymore. So she decided to leave Professor Tubing’s lab before the man would she her break down at the news. “Thank you for trying to help Professor Tubing.” Wordgirl said in a monotone and mumbling voice. “I have to go and do hero stuff now. I’ll try and bring Captain Huggy Face over sometime for another monkey playdate with Bosco.” Wordgirl then picked up her sidekick and floated outside of the lab. Professor Tubing just waving goodbye to the downtrodden hero, not saying anything he believed would bring the young hero any comfort right now. 

Huge looked up with worry at Becky who was silently floating down the hallways of the fourth floor science labs. She was in no mood to fly back home at super speed. Professor’s Tubing’s words replayed in her mind as tears began to fall more down her face. Becky, aggravated by them, tried to furiously wipe them as fast as they were falling. She did not want anyone to see their local hero looking so sad and despondent. She did not want to give anybody a reason to comfort or inquire why she was so sad right now. “Augh!” Becky exclaimed to herself. “It’s just not fair Huggy.” She angrily said to her sidekick. “What’s not fair Becky?” Huggy chattered although he had a deep suspicion as to what she was referring too. Becky made a frustrated expression with her arms as she spoke. “For as long as we been with him, all we had seen dad do was develop and create ideas that would benefit and help everybody, people and animals. He wrote a guidebook about superheroes which helped us learn how to be great heroes for Fair City. Heck even that stupid mind reading device that caused him to become Dr. Two Brains in the first place was intended to help the police find criminals easier by using mice as eyewitnesses.” Becky huffed as she crossed her arms. “It’s just not fair that something so horrible happened to someone who only wanted to achieve good.” Huggy detected the sadness and hurt in Wordgirl’s voice with that last statement, and he resolved to try and comfort her with reassuring pats. Although appreciative of the gesture, it did nothing to elevate Wordgirl’s current mood. “Thanks for trying Huggy.” Wordgirl said sadly. “But unless we can find a new, safe, solution to help dad soon, I’m not sure what we can..OOF!” Wordgirl suddenly exclaimed She was so distracted in her thoughts and sadness that she had accidentally floated and bumped into someone that had also walked into her, knocking them both to the floor. Wordgirl grunted as she hit the marble floor, releasing her sidekick who had the unfortunate fate of falling down on his head. Though protected by his helmet, Captain Huggy Face was still dazed from the sudden collision. Becky rubbed her head from the impact. “I’m so sorry about that. I was distracted by my own thoughts and didn’t see you there.” Wordgirl apologized automatically to the person she had run into. The other person though, did not hear her apology as they were very indignant about someone running into them. “Hey watch where you going you..” The person began to rant angrily before getting a good look at who they ran into. “Wow! Holy cow your Wordgirl. I am so, so sorry about running into you. I was so distracted in looking at my paperwork and notes I didn’t see I was in your way.” Wordgirl looked up at the voice of the person talking to her and witnessed the scene before her. In front of her was a fairly young male with dark, curly hair and freckles on his face. He was wearing a green dress shirt with a purple tie and dark brown slacks. Wordgirl also took note of the person’s lab coat and the many scattered papers around him. ‘This must be another scientist that works here.’ Wordgirl assumed in her head. The young man, who looked flustered about crashing into and yelling at the city’s local hero, extended his hand in peace. “Um my name is Dr. James Jenkins. It’s nice to meet you.
