What’s something about Ron Weasley as a character that you think is underrated?
That Ron is really, really funny, and that his sense of humour isn't a sign of immaturity or gratuitous comic relief for the reader's sake, but an absolutely essential part of what both Harry and Hermione value in Ron as a character as an antidote to their own tendencies (moodiness and seriousness/anxiousness, respectively). Ron makes bad days bearable to get through for the people around him. I think people mistake Ron making jokes for a lack of emotional awareness, but I actually think it’s the opposite. By the series end Ron is literally the most emotionally well-adjusted of the central canon characters. That line about Peeves’ poem right at the end of DH when the war is won (“Really gives a feeling for the scope and tragedy of the thing, doesn't it?”) is a) brilliant and b) such a great manifesto for how Ron’s outlook on the world — not humour as emotional avoidance, but humour that sits within all the grief and pain and suffering, and makes it that bit more bearable. So yeah Ron Weasley’s love for chuckles is Important and Overlooked and I will keep saying it til I am blue in the face

fsa is placed at the end of the four swords subseries timeline and as such ganon canonically never breaks out of the seal of the four sword despite him being able to break out of seals in multiple other games. i like to think that the reason for this is because the four sword just straight up ate him over a long period of time. like from inside the seal

Carol Cutshall I know your game, Rolin & Co. I've got you beat. Color (in terms of wardrobe, specifically) in IWTV so far has been representative of a kind of vibrant inner life and honesty in characters. It's the reason why it's so jarring go from seeing Louis in his beautiful multicolored array of stylish clothes in New Orleans to his solid, un-broken string of Couture Minimalism All-Black Ensembles in Dubai. Even in just comparing his unassuming browns and muted tones of Paris next to Claudia's self discovery in pastel. So, to then turn your eye to Armand; always in black, white, greyscale and browns so dark that in most lightings- they end up functionally black.
And then I think about how his rare pops of color, outside of his green shirt in Just Start The Tape, are orange and red. Adoration of the Shepherd continues to be a interesting painting to tie to Armand, this time in the detail that our only image of Armand before his turning is him in a bright blue gown. And in thinking of all these things at the same time, mentally, I am whacked in the face by a piece of trash on the wind which has this The Vampire Armand quote plastered to it

Anyways, anytime someone goes "Oh I hope to see Armand in color in S3" I think the monkey's paw curls

final artfight attack on @foileadeux!
They stand at an impasse for a moment, their stances mirrored: Halesia with her hand on the hilt of her blade, Lilith with her hand on the spine of her grimoire. Their single point of connection is where Halesia grips Lilith’s wrist. Lilith’s eyes flash as she glares at Halesia, while Halesia herself does her utmost to project cold warning, icy calm. “Lilith,” she begins. “I need this blade to legitimize my position. So long as I am reliant on it to keep up the appearance of a knight, I cannot hand it over to you.” Lilith wriggles her wrist, but Halesia holds her fast. “And who was it that helped you secure that blade? If it wasn’t for me, your act would have been unmasked entirely. You still owe me. and that blade is the only thing of value you’ve got!”

Semi-baked thought but recently I have read 3 different professionally published gay romances that were...fine...some more satisfying than others, but what stuck out to me was the extent to which the characterization and dialogue lacked surprises. A bi guy in an M/M romance recommendation thread on reddit pointed out the extent to which published romances gravitate toward a particular flavor of feminine man paired with a particular flavor of masculine man and it's hard not to keep seeing once it's pointed out. In each of the three books the more 'masculine' guy was bisexual. I love bisexuals (it's self-love), I love characters with differing relationships to their gender, but I'm also fighting down thoughts of a drinking game.
It's not the exact same flavor as the original Fandom Ghost but it is a Ghost. [And specific enough that it is a Ghost, not an archetype.]
Perhaps the bigger lacking-surprises issue is a craft one where everyone just Says What They Mean too often, and in rather bland ways. I don't mind the occasional revelation of Truth from the Heart; I am reading romance! But how you do it matters, points can be won for style; there's a low quotability quotient and less satisfaction because, again, it's romance, we know they're going to communicate these particular ideas, we're here to be charmed and surprised by how they do it. (In parallel to the romances, I'm reading Robin Hobb's character-driven fantasy novels, and one thing I will say for her, the characters' dialogue + narrative is a firehose of surprises in a way that often reads as more truly romantic.)
If this was fanfiction of my Blorbos I would be more easily satisfied, or perhaps the generic-ness would be less noticeable because I'd be backfilling richer details from canon. When it's happening to original characters, it leaves a feeling of dissatisfaction.
There's also a thing where the side characters root for the relationship in rather flat/uninteresting ways; I'm willing to admit some of this is Just Me having a higher angst preference than the target audience, but at the same time I've read older romances (old enough that they're standardly heterosexual) which, for all their myriad other sins, give side characters much richer and more complex emotional affects and roles. And I think some of it is approach/style more than content: if I summarize various side characters, they sound perfectly interesting, but on the page they fall flat because they just Say What They Mean in polite and generic ways. [This a flaw that annoys me in fanfiction too. Once you've read enough, you already know what they're going to say, usually, but you want the way they say it to make some impression. "Say" can be broadly construed to include body language and symbolic action - my kingdom for an extravagant gesture.]

Hi 👋🏽 I’ll be going on an indefinite break that may (or may not) be for good.
Writing fanfiction was an escape for me these past 2 years. It was a way to express my love for the tannies in how I wrote them as comfort characters, and it was a way for me to make sense of my own experiences and emotions. These fics have always been very personal, with a bit of me in every OC, my pains reflected in their stories, and words I wish someone told me growing up expressed in the dialogues. And I’ll always be so thankful that many of you related with them, found meaning in them, and found comfort in them. That will always be my favorite part 💜💜 stories are so powerful! They’ve allowed me to connect with so many people and make memories in this (mostly) lovely part of the site.
But the process of writing has also been draining, not as cathartic as it used to be, and not as fulfilling. So much as I find myself going back and forth with the numerous stories in my drafts, I can’t bring myself to continue with them. Not anytime soon, at least. Maybe one day the itch to write will be so intense, or JJK1/KTH1 drops and I’ll lose my shit (Untitled and Belong were born out of Indigo and D-day after all), or after rereading my stories, I’ll miss writing so much. The thing is, I’ve never loved BTS as much as I do right now; perhaps I’m content with screaming about that love to myself in the meantime.
I’ll be lurking around here, maybe pop in every once in a while (so plagiarists, keep off my work, pls). My stories will remain here as your comfort 😌 and I’ll do my best to put out the PLM drabbles I promised! Other than that, all the stories are complete for you to enjoy (sorry to those waiting on TLA 😔 I hate that I’m unable to continue). I also have Twitter (jmimi_mi). I’m also just a lurker but say hi if you want! 😊 we can talk bts and fics and whatnot over there (I’ll try, I promise).
Please give love to the authors who are still lovingly putting out work for the community! 🥰

are the aquatic zeta still sapient, despite not being social? or have they lost that sapience over time?
They're kinda occupying a convergent space with manticores in ISOK in my mind & in how i want to portray them.. I think to outsiders and other people, especially very socially driven people (like the average spire citizen), the aquatic zeta might seem like wild animals. After all where is their society, their art and culture? They never communicate, they give no indication of being any more sapient than a smart crow. For all intents and purposes they're not people to Sirenians (if they're even believed to exist to begin with). But at the same time this level of dehumanisation comes from the outside and rests on an assumption that just because someone fails to meet socially constructed expectations of personhood, it means they are not a person. And it relies on the observations of outsiders who will never know what their interiority looks like

i don’t talk about bridgerton on here but just to clarify. i will not be having ANY eloise hate on this account. i will bite.
#eloise bridgerton they could never make me hate you!!#addressing the normal talking points one by one to get them sorted:#- no i don’t care that eloise called pen some names after the discovery. she was devastated and furious.#she can apologise in the future but in the moment of course she said it#- yes pen did write about eloise as a way to save her but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t possibly ruined eloise’s life#- similarly: eloise isn’t (just) angry that she was written about. daphne also went through whistledown and it very much terrified her#so have many other women including marina#- eloise is betrayed because she told pen everything and is realising pen told her nothing#(and she’s probably thinking about any secrets she might have said to her best friend that could now be used against the ton and her family)#- as claudio said: being regency gossip girl isnt a moral girlboss thing its deeply harmful tbh#- pen did have reasons to become whistledown! that doesn’t mean that she’s innocent or right!#- eloise isnt now friends with cressida to spite pen lmao she’s alone and scared and cressida was the last person who offered her friendship#she has no idea how to manage society by herself#(and she needs someone to improve the reputation of her and her family)#- im also convinced she has other ulterior motives for befriending cressida. like she’s keeping an eye on her or smth#- eloise didn’t just ignore anything pen said and that’s why she only just figured it out. pen deliberately didn’t speak like lw to hide it#the moment she did eloise was like huh that’s weird she doesn’t normally talk like that. and THATS when she figured it out#- eloise just found out her best friend has betrayed her and been hiding this massive secret#but she hasn’t told anyone. not even her own family. im not hearing out any accusations of HER of being disloyal#- also pen clearly wasn’t that upset at writing about eloise bc the moment eloise and colin upset her she went straight back to it lmao#side note but no i don’t think the queen is going to name her the ‘emerald’ or anything because she’s suddenly in the spotlight#eloise is tbh the only debutante she actually consistently recognised (for good or bad)#a new dress is not going to be interesting for charlotte to change her whole tradition#tl;dr i love eloise and i will die on this hill#eloise bridgerton#bridgerton

The Horror and The Wild (album)
"'Cause I'll darn you back together / When you think that you're bereft." "You are the driftwood and the rift. You're the words that I promise I don't mean." "Let’s wander, till the fuckers demand an encore." "Grow young each time that thunder in your lungs begins to rumble at the world." "He said, 'Hey, darling, hey. Hey, darling, hey.' I'm the hardest goodbye that you'll ever have to say" "She promises to fight them all when it all becomes too much And he, he curses at the world." "But fuck all your plans, I'm bored." "If by 'palace' you mean that asbestos and beans from a tin And the gin that we brewed in the bathtub." "And by God, love, believe me, I wanted to play too, I did."

i think the funniest thing coming from having a hands-on experience with sex is learning that some of the "fanfiction lied to you, here's how it really is irl" takes have even less in common with reality than some random smut you run across on tumblr
in the end, sex is a very personal experience, there's no such thing as universal recipe for what will feel good and what will turn you on. and the other way round too. the key is to have open mind and to experiment - not only with a partner - and to remember sex is supposed to be fun

i love watching twq and the tudors back to back for that reason though-- (and i wish we had a better bridge between them than twp, because...yikes)-- neither of them being perfect shows notwithstanding; they're the best and most intricate on-screen versions of those eras to date, imo, and you really cannot understand henry viii until you understand what came before him. personally, i have way less interest in what he thought, or didn't think, (i don't think royal children really...gave it much thought, tbh, unless their parents' marriage became obviously contentious- it would have just been a thing he took for granted: 'the worst i've ever encountered is apathy, where people simply accept the king and queen as they accept the sky above their heads') of his parents' marriage, what's far more interesting to me (and hardly ever explored), is how his sense of personal history would've shaped his young mind. what would it be like to learn that the only reason you're the (spare) prince of england is that your uncles were murdered? what would it be like to learn that threats to your brother's inheritance were convincing enough pretenders of the former to attract followings, convincing enough to gain the endorsement of other princes, and were executed for the presumption? what would it be like, to, retroactively, absorb that in fact, they were killed for the presumption of threatening your inheritance?
no one was going to argue god's will in a tyrant murdering young princes, but did he perhaps feel that there had been so many events that had led to him becoming king (the murder of his uncles, his father's conquest & victory, the scotched threats of the pretenders, his own brother's untimely death), that there was...an especially divine plan for his place in the world, and that he had a duty to fulfill this? how does that shape a person? it's easy to see how that could lead to an intractable disposition, at the least; easy to see how the result would be an amplified version of the divine right mandate all kings lived by, regardless. it's easy to see how the result was...well, henry viii.
