Gricko Grimgrin is the most character ever. He adopted an owlbear as his daughter. He went to goblin college. He tries to appeal to kids with rap. He eats cigars. He saw his best friend getting plowed behind a tree and was totally okay with it. He accidentally killed his own uncle. He had an imaginary friend who was an eldritch abomination. He got fey cursed into being handsome so many times he ended up actually becoming handsome. He's british.

Do you think they ever told Michelle about the police raid she came to?
From Michelle's point of view, it's like:
Get called to a police raid because apparently there's an elephant? in a flophouse?
Roll up and discover the cops understated the problem; it's an elephant and a rhino and a wolf and a gorilla. Also possibly a skunk and a hawk, but those are native to the area so maybe the poor skunk is just lost.
Attempt to tranq the rhino before he can flatten a police car; do not succeed.
Discover that THE BIRD has A GUN. Exchange fire with the fucking bird who has a fucking gun.
Succeed in chasing the animals away, even though none of them end up drugged enough to go down.
Discover there was no circus in town, nor was there a mass escape of an illegal home zoo.
Go home. Drink to forget.
Find out that your daughter can turn into a wolf. Find out one of her friends is a hawk who can fire projectile weapons. Witness two of her other friends turning into a gorilla and an elephant.
She's a smart lady. I'm sure she can put the pieces together and ground Cassie for eternity, even if no one spells it out for her.

A while ago I saw a post making the metaphor that Armand was a tiger who really really wanted you to put him on a leash but he was still. You know. A tiger. So if you don't put him on a leash he's going to eat you. And while that mental image is very funny its always struck me as such an oversimplification of what was actually going on in Paris which was more like
Okay so imagine you're roaming through the countryside and you find this tiger who is guarding a herd of goats. And you're like hm. That's weird. Tigers aren't known for doing that. And you talk to the tiger and it turns out he HATES guarding the goats and he's a little bit afraid of the goats also. And you're like my dude why do you not just eat the goats. And he explains to you his very sad tragic backstory about how he was kidnapped and sold to a circus as a cub and they used his fear of fire to train him and eventually he was so broken in by being threatened and burned all the time that they were able to just abandon him here in the countryside with these goats and tell him to guard them, knowing that his lingering fear would keep him in line even after he was away from them. And this tiger looks at you with his big sad eyes and says im sorry about the goats and how they want to kill you but I'm just still really fucked up about the circus, you see. And what do you say in response to this, hm? Do you offer to help the tiger in any way? No, of course not. That would be silly. "You know who used to work in a circus?" you say, striking a match, "Me!"

Stormclan is pretty cool, I’m glad they are a direct result of the clans and not Rouge Group 255674385 that pops up like Minecraft mobs at night
Didn’t ivypool kill beetlewhisker? Will they remember it
The mental image of playing minecraft and Darktail spawns on your roof like a spider, refusing to leave in the daylight and making annoying chittering noises, is magical thank you.
Anyway nah, that was Brokenstar. Ivypool killed Antpelt, not Beetlewhisker. I have doubts they're going to remember that though, and if they do, it'll be one of those "don't worry guys we TOTALLY remember the events in our series!" throwaway lines we've been getting recently. The type that's thought in her head or thrown out in passing, but doesn't significantly contribute to Ivypool's emotional struggle.
I think Ivypool's actually the part of this SE that I'm most apprehensive about, funny enough. StormClan's got me pretty excited, but my hopes kinda started falling when I found out Dovewing was going on the road trip. I do not like the story that the Erins tell between the sisters, and I feel like they keep getting forced together to "reconcile their differences" when it would make a MUCH more effective story for the two of them to not do that.
See, what I like about Ivypool is that she's grudge-holding and spiteful. I LIKE that she tried to leverage her sisterhood with Dovewing in ASC to try and make her manipulate her husband. I find the fact she tried to sabotage SkyClan's chances at the lake back in AVoS to halt Dovewing and Tigerheart's relationship, slighting her apprentice in the process, to be COMPELLING.
I ENJOY reading about Ivypool being nasty. Both a victim of the Dark Forest who was targeted because she felt alienated, and yet, someone who has found a way to use Clan culture's most unfair aspects to her advantage. She'll NEVER see herself as the bully she actually is, because in her eyes, she's permanently the underdog.
so... I just have absolutely no desire to see Dovewing and Ivypool be "close."
Every time it happens on the page, it feels like it's Dovewing desperately wanting her sister to not treat her poorly, or believe in her, or just stop actively sabotaging her life. Then, Ivypool realizes this after a while and displays emotional intelligence that feels unfitting for her character, and apologizes.
It feels forced.
Like it's just happening because the authors know the fans want it, and not actually what these two characters would do. You get me?
I don't want to see them reconnect. I want more bittersweet examples in WC where family members have irreconcilable differences, but now and then, there's that little twinge of love, that old spark that you pray, THIS time, could become a fire... but it doesn't. There's just nothing left to burn.
TL;DR I'm feeling overall meh about Ivypool's Heart but looking forward to seeing what StormClan's all about.

“The Immortal Weapons, laughing as one? I never would’ve thought I’d live to see such a day.” — Immortal Iron Fist #13 by Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, Tonci Zonjic, David Aja, Kano, Matt Hollingsworth, and Artmonkeys Studios
Iron Fist Week, Day 5: A Favorite Team-Up
One of my favorite superhero teams of all time. Forget the Avengers, forget the Justice League. Let's talk about the Immortal Weapons.
This is a group of people that is not meant to be friends. Each of the Capital Cities of Heaven exists on a separate plane of existence, and each Weapon is intended to be a tool of their city, first and foremost. Their only interactions with the Weapons from the other cities seem to be at formal events like the Tournament of Heavenly Cities, in which their job is to mindlessly beat the hell out of each other for the glory and advancement of their people.
The Weapons, for the large part, are shown to be solitary in their experiences in the role. Even in cities where there is a close connection between the Weapon and their community, as seems to be the case with Tiger's Beautiful Daughter and her sisterhood of soldiers, and maybe also with the Crane Warrior and Crane Daughters (though we've never met a living Crane Warrior so it's all a little vague), the harsh experience of being an Immortal Weapon is singular. Nobody else will truly be able to understand what that is like. We are shown the former Iron Fist Wu Ao-Shi and her mild-mannered fisherman husband, who were deeply in love but could never fully see eye-to-eye. We see Fat Cobra, who is jovial and outgoing and gathers friends wherever he goes and yet, at heart, is alone. We see Orson Randall, who had so many people who cared about him but who ultimately couldn't save him from what the trauma of being the Iron Fist had done to him. These are people who are living a difficult, dangerous life, gifted with enormous power that they must use to battle tremendous hardship. And so often, no matter how many loved ones are around them, at the end of the day they are doing it alone.
And yet. And yet! The new generation of Weapons forms a bond. They connect. They become friends and allies, a team that was never meant to exist. And these people who are so different, yet have everything in common, find each other and care for each other and joke around and kick ass together, and it's beautiful every time because it is in defiance of everything they're supposed to be to each other. And seeing people who are meant to be enemies usually, or acquaintances at best, forming friendships that transcend dimensions and defy all odds is profoundly cool to me.

when i was little i loved playing with my grandmother's jewelry. my mom's mom. she wore clip-on earrings her whole life so I would take her hoops and fake pearls and play princess. i can remember her smiling at me while I wore her pearls. just barely. i don't remember hardly anything from my childhood. that's what dissociative amnesia will do to you.
i don't remember a lot of nice things about my gammy. i could tell I was her least favorite grandchild from an early age. it wasn't just bc I was a girl, either, I have another girl cousin on her side that she doted on. when I lived with her at 18 i was practically her maid and she used to berate me for not being on-call 24/7 or not doing things before she asked me to, for not reading her mind and anticipating her needs before she even thought of them. but I still remember playing dress-up with her and being excited to wear her clip-on earrings. she had clip-on hoop earrings of all sizes. i remember doing a solo ballet performance (barely) and how she applauded. when I wrote my first book she sent it to all her friends. and she kept a photo of me framed in her living room next to all the other kids she was proud of. she was so proud of my writing. she didn't read much of it bc she was old and a lot of my original content was too graphic for her but she was proud of me for it. but i still wasn't her favorite. bottom of the barrel. everytime.
i miss her. i miss both of my grandmothers. mimi wasn't all there at the end and she kept forgetting I came out as trans or gay, gammy... she was mean long before she died. she was mean long before I was born. and before that she was transphobic, she hated my facial hair, I overheard as she consoled her friend about how her lesbian granddaughter was going to hell bc being gay was such a slippery slope, she used the N-word as a verb to mean "interfered with" or something. she wasn't a nice woman. she was sweet as hell on the surface but the second she clocked a person as not pure 100% grade-A WASP she was making judgements and snide comments. when my uncle (family friend tbh like a brother to my mom) said "hey all gays go to hell so at least that's good" she laughed. but she would pet my hair and tell me about how my grandpa would call her kitty bc she'd purr when he petted her hair. and I would purr, bc I loved her, and I loved having her stroke her fragile hand down my hair. and when I hugged her she'd hug me back with her frail arms. i loved how she smelled. her perfume was called amazing grace, which I hate bc that means I'm gonna hafta buy Christian perfume to remember her. her and my mom always smell like safety to me. her smile could light up the marianas trench. i shaved right before she died bc I was seeing my fiance's parents and she thought it was for her and she was so happy. i wish I had been there, clean-shaven, for her to just,,, see her little least favorite granddaughter again.
when she was dying my mother broke down sobbing one night, wailing
"SHE'S NEVER GOING TO DIE I'LL HAVE TO DO THIS FOREVER"
bc she was so worn out from gammy's vitriol. i watched her burst into tears and I mean she wailed. her voice was like a banshee's and her emotions were incredibly potent. she made me cry. she was exhausted and was terrified it would never end. gammy was fucking mean. to everyone. I've seen my mom cry like maybe twice in my life, once bc of a panic attack and once bc I was crying, confessing she'd fucked me up with her parenting skills. I've seen my dad cry more than my mom. and I've only seen him cry a few times either. she went from laughing to weeping in about five seconds. both I and my aunt had bought her wine and we encouraged her to drink it bc she won't let out her emotions, we kept her drinking until she was able to release them. bc she fucking can't any other way. if we hadn't given her the wine she would have never said anything about how she felt. she loved her mom, gammy, and gammy was breaking her heart being mad we took her to the hospital in the first place. and honestly? gammy was a piece of shit bc she let my mom get abused as a child. that's ON TOP of my uncle, gammy's other child, saying nothing.
if my mom was so destraught, how did he feel?
but I miss her. i want her back. gammy was my first hero. i didn't know my other grandmother all that well bc we lived on opposite sides of the country but I saw gammy all the time. for years I tried to earn her praise and it was never enough.
but i don't think i learned my lesson. i think I'm always going to be striving for her acceptance. i don't think I'll ever feel like she loved me the same as my brother or my cousins. I've done seances to talk to mimi and my dead aunt before but gammy's been... dead... for about a month. it's not like I was a practicing witch when my other grandma and aunt died, but I still haven't talked to gammy's spirit.
i have a set of fake pearls from her now. and a pretty pair of clip-on earrings. the pearls are plastic and the earrings are glass but they're worth so much.
my grandma's dead. she's like the first person I remember other than my parents. she's just... gone. she wasn't supposed to die? she was supposed to angrily live to 103 being mad she wasn't dead yet. she's not supposed to be dead now. i was supposed to get another decade with her. she was supposed to see me get my ph.d. it's not fair. she shouldn't have gone. i want her back. i don't care if I was her least favorite she was my grandma. she died a few years ago and they brought her back bc they didn't see her DNR but they didn't bring her back this time and idk how I'm going to deal with it. she's just gone. i can't call her and lie about how I'm living bc she's not there. i can't call her anymore. at all. she's gone. i want so much to tell her I love her again. and I can't. i can't tell her that I love her ever again. i can call up her spirit all I like but that's not the same.. she's gone. i miss her. i miss her. she was my grandma and I miss her so much. i want her back. she can't come back. it's not fair. mimi died suddenly, my aunt died suddenly. like with gammy we knew it was coming but that didn't help. i miss her.
