Puberty blockers have almost universally been shown to result in positive outcomes and to be safe
Over at CDL Lost247365 answers a question about the safety of puberty blockers in the treatment of transgender kids, and provides some really useful references to relevant science papers.
She writes:
Puberty blockers have almost universally been shown to result in positive outcomes and to be safe.
QUOTE: "Studies reviewed had samples ranging from 1 to 192 (N = 543). The majority (71%) of participants in these studies required a diagnosis of gender dysphoria to qualify for puberty suppression and were administered medication during Tanner stages 2 through 4. Positive outcomes were decreased suicidality in adulthood, improved affect and psychological functioning, and improved social life. Adverse factors associated with use were changes in body composition, slow growth, decreased height velocity, decreased bone turnover, cost of drugs, and lack of insurance coverage. One study met all quality criteria and was judged 'excellent', five studies met the majority of quality criteria resulting in 'good' ratings, whereas three studies were judged fair and had serious risks of bias."
https://www.aap.org/en/news-room/news-r ... -blockers/
QUOTE: "Researchers found a 60% decrease in moderate and severe depression and 73% decrease in suicidality among transgender and non-binary youth who received puberty blockers or gender-affirming hormones over a 12-month period, according to a study abstract presented during the virtual American Academy of Pediatrics 2021 National Conference & Exhibition."
https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics ... redirected
QUOTE: "This is the first study in which associations between access to pubertal suppression and suicidality are examined. There is a significant inverse association between treatment with pubertal suppression during adolescence and lifetime suicidal ideation among transgender adults who ever wanted this treatment. These results align with past literature, suggesting that pubertal suppression for transgender adolescents who want this treatment is associated with favorable mental health outcomes."
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/land ... cestitle70
QUOTE: Gender incongruence in children and adolescents is complex, and medical treatment raises several ethical considerations. Clinical decision making has been fostered by research efforts, but there are still substantial knowledge gaps that warrant examination to inform best clinical practice (panel 4). The limited available evidence suggests that puberty suppression, when clearly indicated, is reasonably safe. The few studies that have examined the psychological effects of suppressing puberty, as the first stage before possible future commencement of CSH therapy, have shown benefits.
All of this should also show that puberty blockers are not experimental and are life saving:
QUOTE: "Puberty delaying medications are currently provided off label to adolescents affected by gender dysphoria and this particular use cannot be investigated by a RCT. We have shown that this does not mean they are experimental drugs or are provided experimentally. Whether or not these (or even approved drugs) are ethically prescribed depends on whether they are likely to serve the patient’s health interests based on the evidence available at the time of prescription. "The published literature provides insight into the likely benefits of GnRHa. In summary, they reduce the patient’s dysphoria (Cohen-Kettenis & Pfäfflin, 2003, p. 171; Kreukels & Cohen-Kettenis, 2011, p. 467), reduce the invasiveness of future surgery (for example, mastectomy in trans men; treatment for facial and body hair, thyroid chondroplasty to improve appearance and cricothyroid approximation to raise the pitch of the voice in trans women) (Cohen-Kettenis & Pfäfflin, 2003, p. 171); GnRHa is correlated with improved psychosocial adaptation (Cohen-Kettenis & Pfäfflin, 2003, p. 171; Kreukels & Cohen-Kettenis, 2011, p. 467) and reduced suicidal ideation and attempts. Hembree noted increased suicidal ideation where blockers were not given (Hembree, 2011; see further, Imbimbo et al., 2009; Kreukels & Cohen-Kettenis, 2011; Murad et al., 2010; Spack, 2008)."
Some people think that puberty blockers might cause kids to think they are transgender and convince them to wrongfully go on to take HRT. The research shows this not to be true:
QUOTE: "In this cohort study of TGD adolescents, GnRHa use was not associated with increased subsequent GAH use. These findings suggest that clinicians can offer the benefits of GnRHa treatment without concern for increasing rates of future GAH use." Puberty blockers are in fact a wonder drug. Extremely safe and they can prevent trans kids from experiencing irreversible changes to their body due to the wrong puberty while they reach an age where they are old enough to consent. Similarly, they prevent confused Cis Children (who make up only about 2% of all the kids pursuing puberty blockers) from making a mistake that would create irreversible changes to their body as well. Meaning that this drug helps both trans and cis kids!

So I've enabled tipping on my blog because I'm in a rough spot and I'm gonna be struggling to feed everyone for the next week or two, depending on certain factors. Sob story is below the cut cause I genuinely hate having to drag this shit out but I also feel like I owe it to the people potentially willing to help me out, so:
So some of you may or may not know that I recently had a bout with thyroid cancer this past year or so and that I had surgery in the summer to have one side of my thyroid removed. If you didn't, it's cause genuinely I'm not a huge fan of talking about it in online spaces cause it's pretty personal and I don't really like the type of attention stuff like this gets.
Anyway at the time I was not doing too badly financially--I actually had a bit of savings built up and I had enough work hours accumulated that I qualified for EI sickness benefits so I wasn't too worried. Well, what I didn't know was that the "insurable weeks" number for my region was increased from 15 to 24, which heavily altered their calculations and made it so I was essentially getting 35% of my regular paycheck each week.
On top of that, the CRA still wanted me to pay back their CERB "loan" (if you follow any other Candians you may have heard about this garbage move by the government to sign up workers who were laid off during the start of the pandemic onto a benefit program that, while it kept a lot of people afloat, apparently included a caveat that if you didn't use 100% of it and went back to work you would have to pay $2k back to them, essentially punishing essential workers for going back to work) and decided they were going to garnish my already dismal benefit payments. They figured I would be fine to survive off of $90 a week while recovering from surgery.
Predictably, my savings disappeared. I am very grateful that my roommate was patient and did not see fit to make me move out when I couldn't pay rent, and when I got back to work I tried as hard as I could to pay him back as quickly as possible. I was essentially giving him every dollar I was not already spending on rent and bill payments. I struggled to pay for groceries and had to beg folks on twitter for money.
At the same time I started to develop further health issues. I couldn't sleep at night, I felt like sleeping all day, and I started experiencing episodes of somnolence (sudden feelings of tiredness bordering on falling asleep) while at work. I would have to leave work early, or sometimes I would even fall asleep while eating my breakfast in the morning. I missed more and more work and when I did make it in my performance would plummet after 4 hours and I would make major mistakes or even injure myself. I work in a garment factory btw.
I struggled to get in touch with my doctor, or really, any doctor to figure out what was wrong. Our healthcare system right now is in the process of being tanked to hell by the provincial government so they can justify introducing a two tier semi privatized system that values money over care. All this to say I was basically on my own trying to treat my worsening health with sleep supplements and energy drinks. It helped, but not enough. As of early February I was still missing work and struggling to stay awake most days.
I hit a wall and my anxiety made it impossible to go to work in the morning. Full on anxiety attacks, self harm, emotional breakdowns, the works. I asked to take a leave of absence to try and focus 100% on getting better. I've since been able to get in contact with my doctor and hopefully work towards a solution.
Right now I am waiting. I am waiting on EI to get back to me about benefits. I am waiting to hear from Social Services to see if they can help. And I am waiting on my tax return to be reviewed so I can pay my past due rent. I have a negative account balance. I went to the store yesterday and bought milk and margarine with a roll of change. The CRA is saying I could be waiting until the 13th to hear about my tax assessment. EI does not have an estimate for me lol. Social Services hasn't even gotten back to me and I'm dreading trying to reach out due to past trauma working with them.
Anyway. If you have anything to give the tip option is there. I'm gonna attempt to make dnd adoptables as well in the meantime but I'm gonna be real it might take too long to make anything worthwhile and idk if it can wait. I got myself, my spouse, and Victor to keep fed and my roommate breathing down my neck at this point so if you've read all this and have anything to spare it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for reading.

When reviewing contraceptive options, one should consider how the main pharmacologic ingredient affects the menstrual cycle based on the follicular and luteal phases. Estrogen increases during the follicular phase and culminates in ovulation. Estrogen-containing contraceptives regulate ovulation. Progesterone increases during the luteal phase, causing the proliferation of the endometrial lining and changes in the cervical mucous. Progesterone-containing contraceptives regulate bleeding and mucus production.
If a patient becomes pregnant with an IUD in place and the strings are visible on exam, then removal with gentle traction should be attempted. In general, IUDs should be removed prior to 12 weeks. After this time frame, the risk of miscarriage increases.
When a patient presents prior to 34 weeks with PPROM, expectant management is indicated along with betamethasone, prophylactic antibiotics (ampicillin, amoxicillin, and a macrolide), and magnesium (if prior to 32 weeks). Tocolysis may be considered for up to 48 hours to allow for betamethasone administration. Induction of labor should be performed if there are signs of infection or fetal/maternal instability. For patients who present after 34 weeks, induction of labor should be performed to prevent infections and other adverse outcomes. Gentamicin and ampicillin should be given if there are signs of infection (fever, tachycardia, purulent amniotic fluid).
Complete abortions occur prior to 20 weeks gestation and are characterized by vaginal bleeding/cramping, passage of the products of conception, and a closed cervical os on physical examination.
A missed abortion presents with closed cervical os and fully retained products of conception.
Pituitary adenomas are benign neoplastic proliferations of one or more pituitary cell types. The pituitary contains several different cell types, which secrete their respective hormones. Pituitary adenomas may be functioning or nonfunctioning (so-called "silent"). As such, they may present clinically with symptoms of hormone overproduction or with local mass effects (visual disturbances, headache). They also may be asymptomatic and discovered incidentally on imaging. Silent adenomas are more likely to be larger upon diagnosis.
The most common pituitary adenoma overall is lactotroph adenoma, or "prolactinoma." Prolactinomas are usually clinically apparent in females (with menstrual irregularities or galactorrhea) but may be clinically silent in males. Gonadotroph adenomas are usually nonfunctioning and are more likely to present with mass effects. Thyrotroph, somatotroph, and corticotroph adenomas may be functioning or nonfunctioning. While functioning, thyrotroph adenomas present with signs of hyperthyroidism, somatotroph adenomas present with acromegaly, and corticotrophs present with Cushing-like features.
The workup of a pituitary adenoma is complex due to the various hormones involved. Initial imaging includes a dedicated pituitary MRI, which will reveal a sellar mass. Measurement of the various pituitary hormones or their downstream effects (ie, insulin-like growth factor-1, thyroid hormones) can assist in diagnosing the subtype of pituitary adenoma.
Small prolactinomas are often managed medically with dopamine agonists. Large adenomas and other types of functioning adenomas usually require surgery.

How a Men's Health Clinic Can Help with Low Testosterone: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment
Low testosterone, or low T, is a condition that affects millions of men worldwide, often leading to a range of physical, emotional, and psychological symptoms. Testosterone plays a crucial role in regulating male health, from maintaining muscle mass and bone density to supporting sexual health and mood stability. As men age, testosterone levels naturally decline, but in some cases, this drop is more significant and causes noticeable issues that impact quality of life. This is where a men’s health clinic can step in to offer expert care, from symptom recognition to diagnosis and treatment.
Understanding Low Testosterone: Causes and Symptoms
Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone, and its levels typically peak during adolescence and early adulthood. After age 30, testosterone levels generally decrease by about 1% per year. While this decline is part of the natural aging process, certain factors can accelerate testosterone reduction, leading to low testosterone levels, a condition clinically known as hypogonadism.
Common Symptoms of Low Testosterone:
Fatigue and low energy levels
Decreased libido or sexual dysfunction
Loss of muscle mass and strength
Increase in body fat, particularly around the abdomen
Mood changes, such as irritability or depression
Difficulty concentrating or memory problems
Reduced bone density leads to a higher risk of fractures
Decreased facial and body hair
These symptoms can develop slowly, making it difficult for some men to recognize that low testosterone may be the underlying cause. However, identifying these signs early and seeking professional help is crucial for effective management.
Diagnosis: How a Men’s Health Clinic Identifies Low Testosterone
When men experience symptoms of low testosterone, visiting a men’s health clinic is the first step toward proper diagnosis and treatment. Healthcare providers at these specialized clinics offer comprehensive evaluations to determine whether a patient’s symptoms are due to low testosterone or another condition.
Diagnostic Procedures:
Physical Examination: A healthcare provider will start with a thorough physical exam to assess overall health and look for any signs of low testosterone, such as decreased muscle mass, increased fat accumulation, or testicular abnormalities.
Symptom Review: The clinic will review the patient’s symptoms in detail, noting how long they’ve persisted and how they impact daily life. Some men may be hesitant to talk about certain symptoms, especially those related to sexual health, but open communication is key.
Blood Tests: The gold standard for diagnosing low testosterone is a blood test that measures total testosterone levels. Typically, testosterone levels are measured in the morning when they are highest. A level below 300 ng/dL is usually indicative of low testosterone. In some cases, further testing may be required to measure free testosterone, which is the active form of the hormone.
Additional Testing: To rule out other conditions that could mimic low testosterone symptoms, the clinic may also order tests for thyroid function, and blood sugar levels, or a full metabolic panel.
Treatment Options: How a Men’s Health Clinic Can Help
Once low testosterone is diagnosed, a men’s health clinic will work with patients to develop an individualized treatment plan. The goal is not only to alleviate symptoms but also to improve overall health and well-being. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is the most common treatment option, but other interventions may be considered depending on the patient’s lifestyle and health goals.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT):
TRT aims to restore testosterone levels to a normal range, which can help reverse many of the symptoms associated with low testosterone. There are several methods of administering TRT, and the clinic will determine the best option based on the patient’s preferences and medical history.
Injections: Testosterone injections are one of the most common methods of TRT. They can be administered weekly or biweekly, and the dosage is carefully monitored by the clinic to ensure optimal levels.
Topical Gels and Patches: Some men prefer a non-invasive approach, such as testosterone gels or patches that are applied directly to the skin. These allow for consistent absorption of testosterone and are easy to use at home.
Pellet Implants: For long-term management, testosterone pellets can be implanted under the skin. These slowly release testosterone over months, reducing the need for frequent injections or applications.
Oral Medications: Though less commonly used due to potential liver side effects, some men may be prescribed oral testosterone in the form of pills or dissolvable tablets.
Lifestyle Adjustments:
In addition to TRT, a men’s health clinic will often recommend lifestyle changes to enhance treatment effectiveness. These adjustments not only help to boost testosterone levels naturally but also improve overall health.
Regular Exercise: Strength training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) have been shown to increase testosterone levels. Clinics may recommend personalized fitness programs to help patients regain muscle mass and improve energy levels.
Healthy Diet: Diet plays a significant role in hormone production. A clinic might suggest foods rich in zinc, vitamin D, and healthy fats, which support testosterone production. Reducing processed foods and sugar can also be beneficial.
Weight Management: Obesity is linked to lower testosterone levels, so maintaining a healthy weight is crucial. Men’s health clinics often provide nutritional counseling and weight management plans to complement TRT.
Monitoring and Long-Term Care:
Men undergoing TRT will require regular monitoring to ensure their testosterone levels remain within a healthy range and to adjust treatment as needed. This ongoing care includes routine blood tests to track hormone levels, as well as monitoring for potential side effects such as blood clots, sleep apnea, or prostate health concerns. Clinics ensure that patients receive comprehensive care, addressing both testosterone management and overall health.
Potential Risks and Side Effects of TRT
While testosterone replacement therapy is generally safe and effective when supervised by a medical professional, it’s important to be aware of potential side effects. A men’s health clinic will thoroughly discuss the risks with patients before beginning treatment and will carefully monitor for any adverse effects.
Common Side Effects:
Acne or oily skin
Fluid retention
Increased red blood cell count, which may elevate the risk of blood clots
Worsening of sleep apnea
Potential impacts on fertility
By receiving treatment at a men’s health clinic, patients can rest assured that their therapy is closely monitored, minimizing risks and ensuring the best possible outcome.
Conclusion: Restoring Health and Vitality through Men’s Health Clinics
Low testosterone is a condition that can significantly impact a man’s quality of life, but it doesn’t have to be permanent. With the help of a dedicated men’s health clinic, patients can access cutting-edge diagnostics and effective treatment options that not only restore hormone balance but also improve overall health. From testosterone replacement therapy to lifestyle changes, clinics offer a comprehensive approach to tackling low testosterone and helping men regain their vitality.

Find the Best Blood Test Centre Near Me for Accurate Results
Tumblr media
Finding the Best Blood Test Centre Near You: A Guide for Accurate Health Testing
Blood tests are essential for diagnosing, monitoring, and managing various health conditions. Whether you're getting a routine checkup or investigating specific symptoms, choosing the right blood test centre near you is critical to ensure accurate and reliable results.
In this blog, we'll explore why it's essential to find a trustworthy blood test centre, the types of blood tests available, and tips for choosing the best facility near you.
Why Are Blood Tests Important?
Blood tests give doctors valuable insights into your body’s internal functions. They help detect diseases early, monitor ongoing health conditions, and guide treatment decisions. Here are some of the reasons why blood tests are so important:
Early Detection of Diseases: Many health conditions, such as diabetes, anemia, and high cholesterol, can be detected early through blood tests. Early detection allows for timely treatment and can prevent complications.
Monitoring Chronic Conditions: If you have a chronic illness like diabetes, kidney disease, or heart problems, regular blood tests help monitor your condition and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
General Health Assessment: Routine blood tests give an overview of your general health. They measure things like blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and organ function, helping you stay on top of your wellness.
Types of Blood Tests Offered at a Blood Test Centre Near Me
A comprehensive blood test centre offers a wide variety of blood tests to meet different health needs. Here are some of the most common types of blood tests you can expect to find at a blood test centre near me:
1. Complete Blood Count (CBC)
A CBC is one of the most common tests done to assess your overall health. It measures several components of your blood, including red blood cells, white blood cells, hemoglobin, and platelets. This test can help detect conditions like infections, anemia, and blood disorders.
2. Blood Glucose Test
If you're at risk of or have diabetes, a blood glucose test measures the sugar levels in your blood. This test is essential for diagnosing diabetes and monitoring your glucose levels over time.
3. Lipid Panel (Cholesterol Test)
A lipid panel measures cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood. High cholesterol levels can increase your risk of heart disease, making this test vital for heart health monitoring.
4. Liver Function Test
Liver function tests measure enzymes and proteins produced by the liver. These tests help detect liver diseases such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, or liver damage caused by medications or alcohol.
5. Kidney Function Test
This test measures waste products and electrolytes in your blood to assess how well your kidneys are functioning. It’s especially important for people with diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of kidney disease.
6. Thyroid Function Test
Your thyroid regulates your metabolism, and any dysfunction can lead to issues like hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. A thyroid function test measures hormones produced by the thyroid gland to ensure it's working correctly.
7. Vitamin and Mineral Tests
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can lead to a range of health issues. Blood tests can measure levels of essential nutrients like vitamin D, vitamin B12, and iron, helping detect any imbalances or deficiencies.
How to Choose the Best Blood Test Centre Near Me
With numerous options available, selecting the best blood test centre near me can be challenging. However, a few key factors can help guide your decision.
1. Reputation and Reviews
When searching for a blood test centre, one of the first things to consider is the facility’s reputation. Check online reviews and ratings to gauge the experiences of other patients. Positive reviews often indicate reliable services and professional staff.
2. Accreditation and Certification
Ensure that the blood test centre is accredited by relevant healthcare authorities. Accreditation guarantees that the centre adheres to strict quality and safety standards. Look for certifications from bodies like NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) or ISO (International Organization for Standardization).
3. Advanced Equipment and Technology
A reliable blood test centre should use modern equipment for accurate test results. Outdated technology may lead to errors or delays, so it’s essential to choose a facility that employs the latest diagnostic tools.
4. Qualified Staff
The expertise of the technicians and pathologists handling your blood samples is crucial. Ensure that the centre you choose has qualified and experienced professionals to carry out the tests accurately.
5. Convenience and Location
When looking for a blood test centre near me, convenience is an important factor. Choose a centre that is easily accessible and offers flexible appointment times. Some centres also offer home sample collection services, making it easier for patients who have mobility issues or tight schedules.
6. Range of Services
A good blood test centre should offer a wide variety of tests. From routine blood tests to specialized diagnostic panels, having all tests under one roof is convenient and ensures continuity of care.
7. Turnaround Time for Results
Timely results are crucial, especially if you need the blood test for a medical emergency. Choose a centre known for providing quick and accurate results. Some centres offer same-day or next-day results, which can be beneficial if you're undergoing urgent medical treatment.
Benefits of Regular Blood Testing
Regular blood testing plays a key role in maintaining your overall health. Here’s why you should consider routine testing at a blood test centre near me:
1. Early Detection of Health Issues
Many health conditions do not show symptoms until they have progressed. Regular blood tests can detect diseases early, allowing for prompt treatment and better health outcomes.
2. Monitoring Chronic Conditions
If you have a chronic condition like diabetes or hypertension, regular blood tests are essential for monitoring your health. Your doctor can use the results to adjust medications or treatment plans as needed.
3. Tracking Nutrient Levels
Blood tests can reveal deficiencies in essential vitamins and minerals. By identifying these deficiencies, you can take steps to improve your diet or use supplements to restore balance.
4. Preventing Complications
Routine blood testing helps prevent complications by catching health problems before they worsen. Regular tests enable your doctor to monitor your progress and make informed decisions about your health.
How to Prepare for a Blood Test
Preparing for a blood test is usually straightforward, but there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure accurate results:
Fasting: Some blood tests, such as glucose or cholesterol tests, require fasting for 8-12 hours before the test. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
Hydration: Drink plenty of water before your test. Proper hydration helps make it easier to draw blood and can prevent dizziness.
Medications: Inform the staff at the blood test centre about any medications or supplements you’re taking, as these may affect the results.
Comfortable Clothing: Wear short sleeves or loose clothing to allow easy access to your veins.
What to Expect at a Blood Test Centre
Visiting a blood test centre near me is a simple and routine process. Here’s what you can expect:
Check-in: You’ll register at the reception desk, where you may be asked for identification and health information.
Sample Collection: A technician will draw a small sample of blood, typically from a vein in your arm. The process is quick, usually taking only a few minutes.
Post-Test: After the sample is collected, you’ll be able to resume your normal activities. In some cases, you may experience minor bruising or tenderness at the site where the blood was drawn.
Results: Depending on the test, results are usually available within 24 to 48 hours. Your doctor will review the results and discuss any necessary treatment or follow-up.
Blood Test Centres with Home Collection Services
In today's fast-paced world, many people prefer the convenience of home sample collection. Several blood test centres offer this service, allowing you to provide a sample from the comfort of your home. This is particularly beneficial for the elderly, disabled, or those with busy schedules.
When looking for a blood test centre near me that offers home collection, make sure the centre has reliable phlebotomists (healthcare professionals trained in drawing blood). This ensures that the sample is collected properly and reaches the lab promptly for testing.
Conclusion: Choose the Best Blood Test Centre Near Me for Your Health
Regular blood testing is vital for maintaining good health and detecting any potential problems early. Choosing a reliable blood test centre near me ensures that you receive accurate results and high-quality care. Consider factors like reputation, convenience, and advanced technology when selecting a centre.
At H.R. Diagnostic, we pride ourselves on offering comprehensive blood testing services with quick results. With experienced staff, modern equipment, and convenient home collection services, we strive to make your blood test experience smooth and efficient.

What is Pre-Pregnancy Counselling?
Pre-pregnancy counselling is a specialized service that helps individuals or couples prepare physically, emotionally, and mentally for pregnancy. By consulting a healthcare expert like Dr. Harshala Shankar, you can receive tailored advice on fertility, nutrition, and other factors critical for conception and a safe pregnancy.
Why is Pre-Pregnancy Counselling Important?
Pre-pregnancy counselling is an essential step in family planning, especially for couples who want to ensure optimal health before conceiving. It offers several benefits:
Health Risk Assessment: Identifying any underlying health conditions that may affect fertility or pregnancy outcomes, such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, high blood pressure, or genetic conditions.
Lifestyle Modifications: Offering recommendations on nutrition, exercise, weight management, and lifestyle habits (like smoking or alcohol consumption) that can impact fertility and pregnancy.
Fertility Awareness: Educating couples on fertility windows, ovulation cycles, and the best time to try for conception.
Emotional Preparedness: Ensuring couples are emotionally ready for the challenges and changes that come with pregnancy and parenthood.
Vaccination Updates: Recommending necessary vaccinations to protect against infections that may harm the mother or baby during pregnancy.
Services Offered at Dr. Harshala Shankar’s Pre-Pregnancy Counselling Clinic
At Dr. Harshala Shankar’s clinic in BTM Layout, Bangalore, comprehensive pre-pregnancy counselling is offered to address all the aspects of fertility, health, and pregnancy planning. Here’s what you can expect:

Both partners may undergo tests to assess reproductive health and identify any underlying health issues that need to be addressed before pregnancy.
Fertility Assessment
Understanding your menstrual cycle and fertility window is critical for planning conception. Dr. Harshala offers guidance on tracking ovulation and timing intercourse to maximize the chances of conception.
If there are concerns about infertility or previous failed pregnancy attempts, further diagnostic tests and treatments may be suggested.
Nutritional Guidance
A balanced diet is crucial for both partners to boost fertility and prepare the body for pregnancy. Dr. Harshala provides personalized dietary recommendations based on your health profile. Key nutrients like folic acid, iron, calcium, and vitamins are essential for the development of a healthy baby.
Pre-pregnancy weight management is also discussed, as being either overweight or underweight can affect fertility and pregnancy outcomes.
Genetic and Family History Counselling
If there are genetic disorders or chronic health conditions in your family, Dr. Harshala may recommend genetic screening or counselling to assess the risks of passing certain conditions to the baby.
This service is particularly useful for couples with a family history of inherited diseases or recurrent pregnancy loss.
Vaccinations and Infections
Pre-pregnancy counselling includes a review of vaccinations to ensure that you are up to date on immunizations that protect you and your baby from infections during pregnancy.
Common vaccines recommended include rubella, hepatitis B, and influenza. Certain infections like rubella during pregnancy can lead to complications, so getting vaccinated beforehand is crucial.
Lifestyle Changes and Habits
Smoking, alcohol, and drug use can severely impact fertility and pregnancy health. Dr. Harshala provides guidance on how to quit these habits and recommends stress management techniques like yoga and meditation to promote overall well-being.
Regular physical activity is also encouraged to improve fertility and ensure a healthy pregnancy.

Prescription Weight Loss Drugs: Assessing If They’re Right for You
Tumblr media
Carrying extra pounds poses life-shortening health hazards from diabetes to stroke. But shedding weight through food and fitness alone proves profoundly tough for some. In eligible candidates, prescription meds assist - but smart guidelines apply.
Below we detail realistic expectations, critical warnings, and key indicators around appropriateness to inform decisions about weight loss solutions and medications as last resort options after exhausting natural tactics first.
The Promise and Pitfalls of Pharmaceuticals
While potentially supporting nutrition and exercise efforts that ultimately strengthen lifelong health, weight loss medications carry caveats:
Potential Upsides
Boost adherence sustaining healthy changes
Overcome biological roadblocks stalling natural loss
Fast initial drops reinforce patient motivation
Risk Factors to Consider
High cost of uninsured (often $100-200+ monthly)
Uncomfortable side effects like GI issues or headaches
Safety unknowns with long-term utilization
Weight rebounds when stopping meds
No substitute for lifestyle and mindset shifts
Now let’s dive deeper into realistic outcomes...
Typical Prescription Weight Loss Medication Results
Beyond the hype, true averages help set goals properly. Per research across approved options:
Weekly loss initially ranges ~1-2 lbs monthly
Patients losing 5-10% baseline weight meet success thresholds
Discontinuing meds correlates to partial regain
Using meds short-term shows the best safety and sustainability
So while helpful boosters, pills won’t magically solve transcendent lifestyle challenges alone. Sustained motivation matters most.
Safety Considerations and Contraindications
All medications carry side effects and interaction risks requiring careful evaluation, especially:
Cardiovascular
As obesity already strains circulation, the following may preclude use:
High blood pressure
Irregular heart rhythms
History of stroke or heart disease
Metabolic
Conditions include:
Type 2 diabetes
Thyroid dysfunction
Liver or kidney disorders
Tumblr media
Mental Health
Potential conflicts with:
Eating disorders
Depression
Substance abuse history
Thorough medical reviews help steer the safest courses accounting for individual nuance.
Ideal Candidates for Prescription Therapy
Guidelines suggest patients meeting the following criteria stand to benefit most:
BMI over 30 (or 27+ with comorbidities)
Making both diet and exercise efforts without continued success
Passed comprehensive health screening
Ready to adopt sustainably improved nutrition and fitness habits
Committed to consistent lifestyle counseling and oversight
Simply taking pills without holistic foundations wastes time, money and health. Meds magnify diligence. They don’t replace it.
Exploring Prescription Medication Protocol
If cleared by physicians after careful historical reflection, patients begin regimens including:
Single medication titration - Slowly increasing doses while monitoring progress and side effects
Combination therapy - Adding additional medications sequentially
Lifestyle reinforcement - Monthly provider counseling focusing on nutrition and fitness
Metrics tracking – Following weight, biometrics, and motivation score trends to fine-tune the approach
Patience and grit sculpt long-term results more than instant gratification. Commit to a thoughtful journey, not a quick fix.
Key Takeaways on Weight Loss Medications
Before considering supplementation, double down on proven foundations first through strict nutrition planning and regular cardio activity.
After hitting plateaus despite earnest dedication, discuss pharmaceutical support options with your doctor while staying aware of risks.
Rather than purchasing patient motivation, prescriptions aid commitment once established. Meds magnify diligence; they don't replace it.
And once beginning protocols after careful vetting, temper expectations around gradual progress tied closely to lifestyle evolutions, not just pills alone.
Here’s to healthy trajectories in balanced harmony aligned closely with experienced medical guidance!

Ep 289: The Body on the Moor Part 1
"To that Providence, my sons, I hereby commend you, and I counsel you by way of caution to forbear from crossing the moor in those dark hours when the powers of evil are exalted."  -- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Description:
On Friday, December 11, 2015, at 9:04 a.m., a man started a train journey at Ealing Broadway Station in west London, England. At 9:50 a.m., he arrived at Euston station to book an over two-hour trip to Manchester. The next day, at 10:47 a.m., his body was discovered by a cyclist close to the Chew Track near Saddleworth Moor in the Peak District National Park. The man was 6 feet 1 inch tall, white, of slim build, and had receding grey hair and blue eyes and determined to be between 60 and 70 years of age. However, this description was the only identifying factor initially discovered about him. He had no ID, wallet, phone, or keys, nothing to tell who this man was. He was dressed nicely but inappropriately for a hike in such inclement weather. The only item found on his person was a container of Pakistani origin labeled for thyroid medication but which now contained strychnine. This was the poison that led to his death. The cyclist also found the man in an odd position; his arms crossed over his chest and next to the trail as if peacefully napping. This was another puzzling clue, as victims of strychnine poisoning are usually writhing in agony before their horrible demise. The pathology technicians who examined the body gave the unfortunate stranger the name of "Neil Dovestone" after the Dovestone reservoir near his resting place. So, who was Neil Dovestone, and why did he travel such a long distance to this specific spot for a careless hike, or was it for a darker purpose? Who removed his identifying items, and did he take his own life or fall victim to murder? Join us for part one of our investigation into The Body on the Moor.

Everything One Needs To Know About Hair Fall
Every hair follicle's hair growth cycle concludes with hair fall. It usually goes unnoticed when hair growth and shedding are balanced. However, it becomes an aesthetic concern when hair loss is extensive and sudden, without accompanying hair growth. Such difficulties affect anybody at some time and may intensify with age. It may be transient or permanent. Those suffering from hair loss and wish to seek treatment can find the best hair fall treatment in South Delhi. We'll get into more detail later, but first, let's review some basic information on hair loss and its causes.
Tumblr media
What are the Signs and Symptoms of Hair Fall/Loss?
Tumblr media
The indications and symptoms of hair fall or loss differ between children, men, and women.
Anyone who has combed their hair may discover many strands in the shower drain, pillow cover, or hairbrush. These are all indicators of significant hair loss.
When males experience significant hair loss, they may see thinning hair on their heads, a receding hairline, or baldness in a horseshoe pattern.
Women may present with generalized hair thinning or loss, particularly at the crown of their heads.
Among children and young adults, the signs of hair loss include rapid falling out of a patch of hair or frequent hair shedding following certain medications, medical conditions, stress, significant weight loss, and many more.
What are the Causes of Hair Fall?
Tumblr media
Hair loss can occur owing to a variety of factors, including:
Family History: Men and women with a family history of hair loss are more prone to suffer from androgenetic alopecia, also known as pattern baldness, an inherited disorder.
Hormonal Changes: Variations in the levels of male and female sex hormones in an individual during reproductive health events such as pregnancy, puberty, or menopause can all cause hair loss. Prolonged usage of oral birth control tablets may cause hair loss due to a decrease in estrogen and an increase in androgen hormone levels. Thyroid issues can also produce hormone fluctuations, which impact hair follicle growth.
Stress: When a person is physically or emotionally stressed, their cortisol levels rise. Excess cortisol causes abrupt, patchy hair loss, a disorder known as alopecia areata.
Nutritional deficiencies occur when people do not consume a balanced diet on a daily basis. If their diet is weak in key vitamins, minerals, and proteins, their hair will grow poorly, and existing hair strands may fall out quickly.
Poor Environmental Conditions: Daily exposure to contaminants in the environment can cause hair breakage and loss.
Scalp Infection or Trauma: A head injury or a ringworm infection on the scalp can cause hair loss.
Some Medical Treatments: Treatments for cancer, such as radiation therapy or chemotherapy, can cause temporary hair loss.
Underlying Medical Illnesses: Medical conditions, such as arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and cardiac problems, might increase the likelihood of hair loss.
Medications—Certain medications, such as mood stabilizers, antidepressants, antifungals, acne medications, beta-blockers, cholesterol-lowering pharmaceuticals, thyroid medications, and hormone-containing therapies, can cause excessive hair loss.
Traction Alopecia: This hair loss is caused by tight hairstyles that pull the hair, causing it to split and come free.
Heat Hairstyling or Chemical-based Hair Treatments: Some people often style their hair with hair dryers or straightening equipment. Others may have chemicals used to dye their hair. If they are done frequently or excessively, they can cause hair loss.
Poor Hair Care Routine—Many people have poor lifestyles and are unwilling to take good care of their hair. They may utilize hair care products that weaken and damage hair follicles, leading to hair loss.
What are the Ways to Treat Hair Fall?
Tumblr media
DermoRita Skin Clinic, an advanced skin and hair clinic, provides innovative, effective, and cutting-edge treatments under expert supervision to properly control hair fall or hair loss difficulties. The doctor recommends the following top hair fall treatments:
PRP Hair Therapy- Platelet plasma, or PRP, is a blood component that is extracted by centrifugation from the patient's blood. It contains natural growth hormones and vital proteins, which are said to help mend bodily tissues. When a PRP solution is created and injected into areas displaying signs of hair loss, it can stimulate hair follicles to generate healthy hair and even assist in protecting the health of existing hair.
To achieve the best effects with this therapy, a person would need many PRP treatment sessions spaced out over a few weeks, followed by one monthly session to maintain new hair development.
Mesotherapy for Hair- This treatment targets the factors involved in natural hair growth. It involves injecting a combination of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antioxidants, vital amino acids, botanical extracts, and some hair growth-promoting drugs into the scalp's mesoderm at the hair loss region. Hair mesotherapy can improve blood circulation to the scalp, boost cell metabolism, and stimulate hair growth from existing follicles.
Dermaroller—There is some evidence that hair loss sufferers can benefit from using dermarollers. Dermarollers are medical devices with numerous microneedles on their surfaces. They are rolled over the area of hair loss or loss to produce several skin pricks at once. They promote healthy hair development by boosting the blood supply to the scalp.
Growth Factor Injection: This is a scientifically proven, more advanced treatment for hair loss and the greatest option for PRP hair therapy. The procedure includes injecting natural growth factors and vital proteins into the hair roots to boost healthy growth. These concentrated growth factors are extracted from the patient's blood by centrifugation.
FUE Hair Transplant—This is a surgical hair restoration treatment best suited for people who suffer from permanent, severe hair loss and seek a permanent solution. In the Follicular Unit Extraction hair transplant method, a surgeon harvests individual hair follicles with a micro punch device and places them one by one in micro-slits made in regions of hair thinning or baldness.
