Van Helsing leads three young men and breaks into a mausoleum, for the three men to kill one vampire. The young men do the staking and the beheading, as he chants so they can complete the ritual. The three men leave the scene bloody and horrified and he comforts them.
He then is led by a vampiric girl to a castle that is essentially a mausoleum. He breaks in all alone, to kill three vampires. He does the staking and the beheading of the three on his own, and the vampiric girl who led him there "chants" (screams) so he can complete the ritual. He leaves the scene bloody and horrified and she comforts him.
#I have connected the dots! you didn't connect-#I was just thinking about the rule of threes in fiction#3s happen a lot in this one!#And just wanted to dump that thought here#dracula daily#abraham van helsing#lucy westenra#the weird sisters#the suitor squad

Out of the three suitors, Arthur is the best choice for Lucy. I just think that for Dr Seward--whether he is heartbroken now or not--his work will always come first. And Quincey Morris might eventually want to return to America and I don't think Lucy would want to leave England. So even if she liked all three of them equally, Arthur is the one she should go for.

Bloodstained clothes sounds like Quincey to me. Either he got hurt and is fussing with getting the blood out of his clothes, or he gets hurt and you have your classic injury-hiding until the rest of the crew sees the blood. Or, if you want some ultra angst, someone in the crew had their clothes stained with Quincey’s blood as he died and they’re dealing with the emotional repercussions of that afterward.
Hi. I know I'm answering this ask a few years late, but if you're still interested, I did write some fics (a while ago 😔) that follow this prompt (the ultra angst version 😈)!
Hope you're doing well, whoever and wherever you are. Best!

So, you've just given blood.
First of all, good for you! Have a sticker.
But giving too much blood can be dangerous, and it's important to take care of yourself afterwards. Do you know the best way to do so?
Give your girlfriend a kiss, drink port wine, have a nap, then go home to rest and eat well.
Apply pressure, lay down for a bit, drink wine and have a big breakfast, then take a short nap before going back to work for the rest of the day.
Drink wine, rest for a short time, meet with a difficult client, then spend four days and nights sitting up with a friend and trying not to sleep.
Drink a glass of wine, lay down for a bit, have a big breakfast, then talk to some friends before spending the night patrolling around in the dark to guard against vampire bats.
Drink lots of nonalcoholic beverages first, then focus on resting and avoiding any strenuous activity for at least a day, making sure to eat iron-rich foods.
#dracula daily#my polls#suitor squad#van helsing#i predict kiss your girlfriend or patrol for bats will win but we shall see how silly people feel

Re: Dracula is a bite-sized audio adaptation of the horror classic, delivered to your podcatcher as the events happen. We’re currently crowdfunding production in an all-or-nothing campaign! Check it out and help us bring this audio drama to life.
We’ll be announcing which roles our cast is playing throughout the first 10 days of the campaign, but we suspect you might be able to guess a few roles from our trailer…

Honestly, I started Dracula Daily a bit late its first year on a total whim. It was in my algorithm after making my tumblr account so I went “oh ok why not?” That was not a super great year for me, and I needed something to kind of give me a boost I guess? I honestly didn’t really expect to enjoy it because I’m not a big horror fan.
But I ended up loving it! Getting to see how these wonderful, complex characters endured despite the horrors they went through and how much they loved each other through it all was so special to me. While I obviously wasn’t going through something as bad as them, I guess I felt like I could relate to them, at least a bit. Plus, of course, the love between Jonathan and Mina was BEAUTIFUL and amazing and just *chef’s kiss*. I am not okay about them and could talk about them all the time if you let me.
Not to mention, getting to be a part of a community that made memes, thoughtful analysis and beautiful fanart made the read through so much better. I can’t imagine experiencing it another way! I was too busy last year to do Dracula Daily (though I did get the emails and ranted to anyone who would listen about these characters), but I’m back again because I’m excited for a reread and to really analyze everything about these characters I love so dearly.
So that’s my why! <3
Here's a fun, open-ended question to ask during this Droughtula:
Why are you a fan of Dracula / Dracula Daily / Re: Dracula etc. ? Why continue to engage with this particular book now?
I fear I've burrowed so far down this rabbit hole that when non-fans ask me, "Why Dracula?" I don't know how to answer that question myself

Van Helsing: “Mina you should not be involved any further for safety’s sake—“
Jonathan, thinking: Yes, she shouldn’t be put in Dracula’s reach, good good good—
Van Helsing: “—helpful as you’ve been every step of the way, you do still have a chronic case of Being a Girl and so cannot be trusted to keep up with us men and our man-work.”
Jonathan, personal heroes including Mina, Scheherazade, and Mina again, grinding his teeth into dust: …That Is. :) A Way to Frame It. :)
#there’s also the social caste element in play I think#yes the Harkers have been instrumental#but they don’t have the numbers and resources on VH and the Suitor Squad do#likewise their general standing#quick friends or not; the Harkers feel they have to bite their tongues now (and in ensuing scenes) when the social more wedge gets driven#between them ~for their own good~#even so#you know these two are chafing#not looking forward to the next few days…#dracula#dracula daily#re: dracula#jonathan harker#abraham van helsing#mina harker

Lucy is the best.
Such a kind-hearted, caring, empathetic young woman. So very much in love, so very much LOVE, full stop. Easy to see why Seward and Quincey are so enamored with her.
And I love how they ask to still be friends. It could be easy to read that as "I want to still hang around you because maybe I'll get another shot," but something about it doesn't come off that way. They both like Lucy as a person, and want her in their lives in whatever way she's comfortable with.
It's kind of shocking how aspirational the male characters in a century-old novel are. Period-typical sexism aside, there's not a trace of toxic masculinity to be found. It's oddly refreshing.
WHY CAN'T WE SEE THIS LUCY IN ADAPTATIONS? What's wrong with the sweet, kind, lovely and loving young woman from the book? Why can't people who haven't read the novel fall in love with Lucy Westenra the way we have?
