WN Women Bonus Polls #5: Other Danmei
[Propaganda below] - Major Spoilers Warning!
Baili Qingmiao from Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know
Submission: Her character arc is so good and im so proud of her 🥹
Additional Propaganda: Baili Qingmiao's story is about breaking out of cycles that trap us in toxic situations. She is the last primordial goddess going through her tribulation, but some asshole thought he'd interfere making him her tribulation. She just wants to help people, but she can't escape her attachment until a bunch of demonic cultivators form a community around her and help her conquer the part of her is sabotaging her and the rest of the world.
DVAWTK Carrd Link
Bai Rong from Thousand Autumns
Submission: She's funny, pretty, and goes through a great character arc.
Chu Yue from Global Examination / GUEE / QQGK
Submission: She is the best friend anyone could ever have, and she is compassionate and kind despite the horrible things she's had to endure. She's a vital part in taking down The System (TM).
Hua Xiangyi from Qiang Jin Jiu
Submission: Surprisingly skillful player in a complicated political arena. Her love interest is her stepdaughter (same age as her).
Murong Mengze from Yuwu / Remnants of Filth
Submission:
Okay, this is a tricky one. Major spoilers ahead. Murong Mengze was born biologically male but raised as a woman for her protection by her mother, who used medicine to make Mengze appear female. For most of the novel, Murong Mengze has a female identity and is referred to with female pronouns. At the end of the novel, it seems she is set to reveal herself as a man after taking control of Chonghua, and the narration refers to her with male pronouns at the very end. We don't actually see her unveil herself as a man, though. I'd say that she counts as a transgender woman, but it's okay to disqualify her. Anyway, the real propaganda is that she is an excellent puppeteer, pulling the strings behind the scenes without anyone realizing for a very long time. She controls the kingdom of Chonghua at the end of the novel.

Qiu Congxue from Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know
Submission 1: I haven't finished reading this book yet but Qiu Congxue is just the funniest character to me. her immediate suggestion to any problem is horrific, traumatizing violence and is confused by how this might be inappropriate or undesirable for some people. ultimate problem causer without realizing she might be causing problems. a genius to herself and no one else. she let her body be eaten by hungry ghosts for her cultivation. head intact, body skeletal and she likes it that way. when asked what she should do to interfere with the enemy while undercover in their territory, her sect leader and our protagonist Wenren E replied that her mere presence is enough interference in itself. my stupid queen <3

The Story of Minglan
Oh, Minglan.
This is what happens when you take the attitude of "It's no big deal if my husband sleeps with morally questionable other women." 🙄
I am fully on his side on this issue but I feel like hasn't done a good enough job of expressing just how disgusting he personally finds these concubines that everyone keeps trying to force on him. Minglan has been brainwashed by the patriarchy and it will take her a while to find her ground and feel secure enough to put her foot down, but what is stopping him from advocating for himself?
My guy, just say NO.
***
LMAO, he's the ruthless and stupid one?
Chang'er's death is his fault? I cannot with this evil narcissist.
***
Fuck you.
Maybe if your garbage ass had not kidnapped him, he wouldn't have gotten sick. And if he had, they would have been able to afford a doctor.
***
I hope he really rips her limb from limb.
The more I see of her and of Lin Qinshuang, the more valid I find Mo Ran for deep-frying fucking Song Qiutong.
***
Unfortunately, Minglan talked him out of torturing her to death 😕
***
LOL, let's hope that at least the piece of shit maternal uncle gets tortured.
***
Please tell me we will get to see a beheading 😭
I am so sick and tired of these people. They have been trying to murder Gu Tingye for fifty episodes now. I am so done 😭😭
***
I love it when cats make guest appearances in dramas 💙
***
Hell person.
***
In general, I am not pleased with how this story has handled Manniang and her children. It all seems sanitised and on easy mode for Minglan because the true circumstances of him having this whole family before marrying her diminishes the romance as it is and making it any more realistic would probably have snapped a lot of people out of rooting for the main couple because they could no longer idealise it.
I mean, look at this:
If this show was realistic, the odds are that Rong-jie, with a vindictive, abusive, neglectful biological mother who abandoned her like this, would have taken all that trauma out on Minglan because this is how kids tend to react in such situations. She would have given her stepmother hell because she was there and a convenient target, while the narcissistic, toxic, neglectful bio mother was not.
Also, killing Chang-er is the writers taking the easy way out because now they have eliminated Gu Tingye's eldest son and possible heir from competing with Minglan's children for the title and the wealth. It's such a cop-out. With Chang-er in the picture, the only way Minglan's children could inherit would be if Gu Tingye refused to acknowledge him as a son, which would absolutely destroy his image and tank the character in the eyes of the viewers.
This way, Minlgan's children get all the benefits without her having to fight for them at the detriment of Tingye's older children and Tingye gets to preserve his image of a doting and responsible father, putting all the negative connotations of his irresponsible first common-law marriage onto the evil Manniang. Gu Tingye and Minglan maintain their noble images and Manniang is scapegoated to enable this. It just leaves me feeling a lot of ick.
It may be unfair of me, but I respect the writing on this show a whole lot less because of these decisions. The truth is, overall, this drama is better written than 99% of other dramas so I feel extremely weird getting hung up on this and letting it get so magnified in my head, but I feel like the fact that the rest of this drama is so realistic and well-written works against them here. There are standards here that were set and I am expecting the rest of the story to proceed on that level, but these standards are no longer being met because meeting them implies compromising the untarnished image of the main characters. It is so convenient and such an obvious cop-out, that I genuinely feel swindled and somewhat salty about it.
***
So selfish and so fucking evil.
What did Rong-jie ever do to her?
She is the one who abandoned her, she's the one who took the boy out and caused his death. She will just blame anyone except herself for her shit selfish decisions.
***
WTF.
Rong-jie is going to need so much therapy, which is unfortunately not a thing in Song Dynasty China.
***
Fucking finally, some good decisions.
***
Oh, yeah, Xiaotao and Shito are definitely a thing.
***
So gorgeous 🧡
Definitely a potential reference pic.
***
She is the poster child for an untreated personality disorder.
I'm so glad I live in the XXI century where mental health care is available, not that it prevents a whole lot of people from still acting like this and blowing up entire lives.
***
Don't you worry, evildoer, your comeuppance is also coming!

The thing that I appreciate the most about Story of Minglan is how pro-active its female characters are. It’s not just a show meant to highlight the exploitation and vulnerability of women in the context of the Song Dynasty society (although we certainly get to witness that); but one that lets their fierceness and determination and agency shine. It’s so remarkable that the majority of the plots in the show are centred around women and resolved by women. Even when it comes to the case of antagonists like Lin Qinshuang, Xiao Qin-shi, Old Madam Wang, the empress dowager etc, they are imposing figures with complex motivations that contribute to all the important developments. When little Minglan gets orphaned, it’s Hualan’s advice to Wang Ruofu that appeases the Wei family and Old Madam Sheng who steps up to take Minglan under her wing when her own father wouldn’t. When Molan has an affair, it’s up to Wang Ruofu and Old Madam Sheng to take the initiative to speak to the Liang family about a possible marriage. When Gu Tingye proposes marriage to Yu Yanhong, it’s her mother the one who needs to give the final approval and in the end cuts him off. When Qi Heng gets threatened, again it’s Princess Consort Yong pulling the strings. Consort Rong decides to murder the Yong Family (the family of the prince about to inherit the nation, mind you) to get revenge for the rape and death of her younger sister. Shulan’s divorce is negotiated by her own mother and grandmother, and not her father. When Auntie Kang is killed, it’s Old Madam Wang the one going to imperial palace to scheme against Tingye. Minglan gives up on ever expecting her father to give her justice so she steps up and takes extreme measures to get revenge for her mother’s death, and her contribution is what helps Yanran, Shulan, Kang Zhao’er, Zhang Guifen, and finally Old Madam when she gets poisoned. Even Concubine Wei, who always insisted on keeping a low profile, was ready to go to the Kaifeng Court to prove Xiao Die's innocence (so you see where Minglan gets it from). And Lady Bai was ready to divorce her husband and walk away with her children after finding out how she was used. Even that small moment of Mingyue asking to have her family’s slave contracts returned to them so she can escape being forced to become a concubine to a man she doesn’t like is so satisfying to see. It’s just so great to get a show like that that’s not just trying to make a point about the suffering of women, but actually lets its female characters be active participants in their own stories and take control of their lives instead of being subservient to male character, or reducing them to the role of the love interest or a passive sufferer.
#the story of minglan#cdrama#all the credit goes to 关心则乱 and the 2 female writers of the show 曾璐 and 吴桐#for crafting so many great female characters#minglan rewatch

I'm not the same anon but I've recently been looking for some metas on consent in 2ha 😅. It's both for bettering my own understanding of the story through different perspectives and also for a 2ha fic i'm working on. Do you know any metas on this subject? or can you share your interpretation if that is okay with you? thanks!
I don’t know of any metas of the top of my head but I’d love to explain my own interpretation! I won’t go too much into overt spoilers but more just general vibe implications
2ha is like telling someone who’s being bit viciously by their dog that they’re a victim and while yes that’s technically true it’s then revealed that the dog has been put in a fighting pit its entire life, got a nice owner for 2 weeks, and then got put back in an even worse fighting pit where he’s horribly conditioned to exclusively bite and kill, and only 40 years later is he randomly set loose back in his nice owner’s old house.
2ha works in a way I like because the layers of who exactly is experiencing non-con (both sexual and otherwise) is a sort of little matryoshka doll reveal.
The most obvious—and one that everything revolves around—being Chu Wanning’s past life. He suffers the most straightforward abuse, he gives the most straightforward sacrifice. It’s very clear cut, and as a result you have a very comprehensive interplay of desire and fantasy. Dude essentially gets his rocks off to visions of his love interest as kindle unlimited alpha billionaire and it’s very clear that entertaining sex slave fantasy in the comfort of your own bed is not the same as experiencing IRL. Congrats Chu Wanning, you discovered BDSM scenes and submission! Surely that’s the extent of it for you and others (it’s not)
As for everyone else…
I can’t remember the exact quote but Mo Ran thinks about how as a child he was so poor that he never knew what he liked, and he didn’t actually have opinions on simple stuff like flavors or appearances or the gender of people because that was a luxury for the rich. It’s like that “maybe I would be nonbinary but I have a job” meme lmao . Wanting things, or not wanting them, or making decisions for yourself, is something that isn’t allowed for the poor. If you exist in a structure where you don’t even know what you want, you physically can’t.
Basically every other character who enacts or experiences noncon in all its strokes falls into this bucket. And it’s kind of the earliest instance we catch something explicitly laid out about consent beyond just strictly sexual, and how it very plainly lays out the definition of it as: any position where you do something you don’t want to do is noncon.
But you’re so distracted by the explicitly sexual dramatic yaoi discussions of attic wife sex dungeon noncon you don’t really give it much thought until later. But it’s crazy in retrospect because Meatbun gives us two characters who are a synthesis of these things—Rong Jiu and Song Quitong—really early on, who are both victims of poverty and as a result do and are subject to stuff that’s really terrible. Mo Ran just sucks bad and hates their guts so we’re a bit blind to it even though they came from really similar backgrounds (which kind of ties into a separate but equally interesting question Meatbun poses of if empathy and peace is something only afforded by people who are rich—Mo Ran wasn’t able to save earthworms until he was in a safe environment and had food in his belly).
The matryoshka doll goes further when we find out exactly what happened to Mo Ran, and THAT is what I love about it. That. Because very suddenly your entire idea of who the biggest victim in 2ha is goes from the very straightforward answer to one that’s significantly more complicated. Yes Chu Wanning is a victim but Mo Ran has been a victim since the moment he was born, and then in a brief heartbeat where he was allowed to grow and be kind, he was immediately subjected to the most violating horrific nightmarish thing could happen to him and dude STILL manages to hold some shred of humanity. I joke about Mo Ran being terrible and a piece of work and he is but my boy contains multitudes and he is also the nicest sweetest gentlest boy in the whole world who did nothing wrong (he did) (but also he didn’t) (but also he did) (but he—)
This plays a lot into a third character who I won’t say for spoilers but you’ll definitely know who I’m talking about if you’ve read the whole book!!

What is Legend of Heroe? I keep seeing people don't about that drama but I can't find out what it's about.
HELLO NONNY! I'm so glad you asked!
tldr: Legend of Heroes 2024/LOCH 24 is the newest TV remake of Legend of the Condor Heroes/射雕英雄传 (often shortened as She Diao in Chinese speaking communities). There have been many others in the past, the most recent being Legend of the Condor Heroes 2017.
Slightly longer answer:
LOCH is a very popular and beloved book that is often considered the grandfather of modern wuxia, and what rekickstarted the genre overall -- and the source of about a billion different tropes. If you've ever wondered where certain things come from in cdramaland, esp historical martial arts focused cdrama, LOCH (or another Jin Yong work) is likely where it came from.
I've been yelling about this show nonstop in the past few days because it's one of my favorite books of all time with a really stellar cast and lovely new aesthetics and fight scenes, and it's FINALLY DROPPED TODAY.
The story follows the protagonist (the titular condor shooting hero), Guo Jing during the Late Song Dynasty on his adventures across the jianghu, his quest to avenge his father, and meeting the love of his life, Huang Rong. The book itself tackles such themes like: what it takes to be a good person in a war-torn world, the ruinous pursuit of ultimate power, and takes a strong antiwar stance.

I am getting sick and tired of people saying that hua cheng is not his own person.I agree that we don't his backstory but we need to imagine ourself in small HC shoes to really understand him.People also say that he hates everyone except for xie lian but that’s not true.the story is based around god’s and ghost’s and he literally grew up hearing that he was worth less than them. And maybe he believed it but when he saw how they all ignored their prayers and xie lian was punished for desending to help, he solidified the opinion that literally all the other gods have no regards for the mortal people and xie lian is the only one who cares and thus the only god and the good person in his eyes.
Regarding the way he speaks to everyone,he rightfully believes that the other gods are lower than scum because of the way they treat the mortals and forget their mortal problems behind ones they asecend.(none of them actually give a crap with the exception of wind master ,xie lian ).so yeah he treats them like crap because he thinks they are crap
As show by the incident of e Ming being forged we see that he is a good person with morals(however less they may be ) and people saying his moral compass is their because of xie lian is really frustrating to me because in the kiln,he did not have to save those humans. He was desperate and his life was in danger but he still saved them because he is a good person.also if he did not xie lian would not have known
Now this is where the problem lies.people think that he’s a horrible person because of the way he treats the gods and ghosts but in the case of gods (refer to second para).in the case of ghosts,I think he knows that they will literally gamble their life away for material possessions and sometimes even their family members.I think because of this the he thinks that they are truly trash.his old way of speaking suddenly comes to life when he speaks to the ghosts
Spoiler ( a small one , will not spoil the story )
When I compared the Young mortal hua cheng and he way he spoke to people he used a lot of words like
“Beat it” or “Scram”
I think being in the company of ghosts just. Triggers that natural response for hua cheng.
As for not treating other people well ,he stepped in when qi Rong harassed guzi. He also was nice to him and even usined one of his own butterfly to entertain/play with him.
So in conclusion,he is neutral to mortals and mocks gods and is not a bad person.
He was nice to guzi but mean to the adults.
We should not forget that half of the people that abused him were mortal adults.
I think his mother played a huge role in letting him know what true love feels like.In the mxtx postscript it is mentioned that his mother taught him a song in a foreign language for his beloved and also, he also honours her heritage everyday with the clothes and jewellery he wears.
So in conclusion he has always always been surrounded by horrible humans and the only one that showed and kindness was xie lian. So that he believes that only xie lian is the only good person in this world makes sense.when you grow up with the lowest of humanity you think the lowest of humanity.when you are given a saving grace ,you believe in that person.
Also hua cheng has the purest form of love ever known. He respects xie lian.He is kind, gentle, funny, supportive and he firmly believed in xie lian when no one else would. Also he actually considers the words spoken by people and it’s credibility and only them forms an opinion about them.
Also people are irritated that he is literally perfect but did we all not read the suffering he went through to become this person? He still has flaws and they are shown in the revised edition and in the old edition too.
To him xie lian is the sun and he is the worthless, ugly child who was unable to protect his beloved from harm.
Kind of funny because xie lian literally almost released a virus ,killed many people and did some very questionable things.
While hua cheng helped more people than he ever did.He shielded a ghost for killing her serial rapist, sheltered a pig for killing its slaughters etc.
Also according to mxtx hua cheng was made first,so xie lian was made for him.Her exact words were”He would surely be someone Hua Cheng would love”
Also hua cheng is a strong ,independent man who does not let anyone tell him what to do.He even has yin yu(he just knows a suspicious amount of information about xie lian that you cannot get from old historical books) and black water(he babysits his fish).
EDIT:season 2 released and I think he actually enjoys the ghosts company and likes them.you just have to see how he speak to them.
#heaven official’s blessing#hua cheng#hualian#xie lian#mental health#Get this theough head peopleeeeeee

i was gonna make a list of fun facts about my OCs but then i realized i don't have anything funny to say about yi shun's brothers LKJASDFH i guess she took all the cunt when she was born and none were left for the others. anyway
fun facts about the OCs i actually care about:
yi shun's name means "righteousness" and "to obey" LOL talk about a loyal rabid dog character
she inherited none of her mother's good looks EXCEPT the eyes. she does have mama's penchant for scheming. but nobody knows were the violence came from. probably also mama?
wan jingwei is indirectly related to a princess/the original ruling family of qiongya from 300ish years ago. that princess (wan qiuye) is my OC handler leah's oc!!
yu fen was born from my personal financial stress
more importantly, yu fen's type in men is "can fold him in half". for the record he's like 5'6"
all the courtesans' names are just stage names. jin ji is not his real name <3 neither are mo li, fu rong, xiu qiu, etc
lanshuang's and lansheng's mom was a stonecold baddie and the most beautiful woman of the jianghu in their generation. ma qiangwei we miss u bbgirl come home...... she doesn't show up in the story (bc she will be relevant somewhere else <3)
ye longya does ascend into godhood eventually, but she has to undergo some..... let's just say..... lessons to get there
song yuan, yi shun's mom, is from the same brothel as mo li and the girls. they look up to her and consider her a legend bc her price was the highest ever set
zhi lansheng's favorite fruit is the humble loquat
yi changrui has a secret love for romance novels
jin ji is related by blood to another character .... won't say who though

Because of Changfengdu, i feel like i need to make a list or introductions of the author's novel (墨书白)
The ML's usually crazily devoted and the FL is crazily competent. I will write some of her historical ones first. (English is not my 1st language, so sorry if there's some mistake)
I'll tag @dangermousie and @mercipourleslivres, maybe you guys can enjoy some of this!
长公主 (The Grand Princess)
This one is a double rebirth story of a princess and her estranged husband. They both died (at age 50's) thinking they killed each other. They born in a time before they married. In their new life they started as friends.
Our FL is Li Rong, is a prideful princess and in the 1 st life married our ML Pei Wen Xuan because he's the most handsome XD. The emotional part of this novel feels so delicate and raw. The longings, remorse, regret, especially from the ML really hook me up. The bloody drama also not only come from the main couple but basically everyone. There's no such a thing as npc chara, everyone have their own purpose. I know many people said Li Rong don't deserve Pei Wen Xuan ( nahh do we read the same novel?) Both are at faults. This one is not for the faint heart. Last time i heard they will adapt this into a drama with Zhao Jinmai and Wang Anyu, i don't want them to touch this.
山河枕 (Mountain river pillow aka the eldest wife is my wife)
This one is a rebirth story. Our FL Chuyu already married the 2nd ML in her 1st life. But her love was wasted and her husband didn't treat her right. After being reborn, she choose to married her supposed to be husband, Wei Jun (the eldest son of a border general). You know what happened to the generals who lives in the border right? Right, scapegoat of the politics in the capital.
Short story, the wei general and his 6 son died (including Chu Yu husband) as a traitor in battlefield leaving the youngest son Wei Yun bring his father and brothers coffin. The real story begin here as Chu yu keep helping Wei Yun to keep the Wei family legacy.
Poor Wei Yun, is all that i can say :p.
From the news i see Song Qian and Ding Yuxi name, please just no :(.
论撩世家子的技巧 (the trick to teasing a noble family son)
This is not the famous one but WORTH READING. Oh and this a crossdressing novel. Our FL Wei Lan is a reborn, but not from your usual world. She came from a matriarcal world, when women is the leader in society and men task is in the backyard. When she came to the her new world, the 1st thing she do is change identity with his brother. Yes you hear me right, Wei lan become the brother and her brother Wei Hua become the sister. Our ML is Xie Zichen, also a reborn. He died being betrayed by the prince that he supported.
This novel is hilarious in the beginning as Wei Lan feels like douchebag, and feels that women is far superior than men. She FLIRT a lot. Because her thoughtfulness, all of these men of course being tempted. Our ML too think like that but reverse. But don't worry there's chara development from everyone, i cried a lot and too be honest my fav chara is one of the FL suitor who end up died.
I change my mind, i'll write her Xianxia and modern too here XD.
琢玉 (Carven Jade)
One of my fav danmei together with Yuwu. Our Gong is Fu ChangLing and Shou is Qin Yan (ma babies). This is a rebirth story. In the 1st life Fu Changling killed Qin Yan out of revenge and hate thinking that he is the one who killed his family and bring demise to the cultuvation world, little did he know that Qin Yan did all of that for him.
After being reborn Fcl did everything to keep Qin Yan safe and sound. I love how devoted they are to each other. All the support characters also great. I really love the parents story too.
剑寻千山 (sword of searching mountain)
This is a broken reunion story. Our FL Qin wanwan and our ML Xie Changji were married. The FL didn't know that our ML cultivated the heart of sword way ( the way of being indifferent, throw away feelings and other desires), she think the ML doesn't love her.
Our ML lives with sadness and trauma for hundred years. Our FL sects also meet a demise around this time and it so so sad. This novels feels emotionally heavy.
Xie ChangJi is up there for me for Crazyily masochist obsessed devoted ML. This one is not my fav but have some really good part. All the support chara also awesome.
余生有涯 (rest of my life)
TW : R&pe, Suicid*
This is a modern setting novel but being the heaviest of the bunch. Definitely not for everyone. This is a realistic novel about our FL Ye Sibei who is getting r*pe after office drinking party. Usually her husband pick her up, but he didn't do it on that day.
This is very hard to read for me, only 39 chapters with knife in it. Felt very real, the one that didn't felt real was her husband Qin Nan (definitely doesn't exist). Do not recomend ro read this when you're feeling down. But very uplifting.

I hate that stupid flower of hared! Not only does it throw the idea of redemption off a cliff! But it makes Mo Ran so much more less interesting. Mo Ran is presented from the start with the most screwed up Madonna/ whore complex. Or Whatever the Chinese idea of this is.
He files Shi Mei as this kind of pure creature comparing him to the moon. He cann’t even feel attraction to his crush and spends more time lusting after Chu Wanning his rape victim from a previous time line. Who he focuses on in both a sexual manner and was implied to have sexually targeted due to viewing him as a terrible person who pretended to be pure.
Then there’s Song who was killed after revealing she had a nasty streak by being boiled alive. Who Mo Ran never forgives for her transgression of bad mouthing Chu Wanning.
Rong Jiu who is assaulted, beaten and ruined in retaliation for betraying Mo Ran. Even though their interactions were purely transactional. Both whom Mo ran admitted to being drawn too because they reminded him of Shi Mei. They are cast aside when they no longer play into a fantasy no longer fit the idea of the boy in his head.
Also the only people Ran Mo can bring himself to have sex with are a prostitute, His teacher who he see’s as bad and Song a Butterfly Beauty Feast. All three of these people are far enough from being people in Mo Ran’s eyes that he can bring himself to lust after them.
this actually strengthens the Chu Wanning X Mo ran dynamic because Chu is the first person who Mo Ran’s view of gets shaken to its core. Mo Ran learns that Chu wanning has complicated reasons for the things he does. Even if those things might be harmful to some. He’s forced to see Chu as a complex person and even after he finds out Chu is in fact made of wood.
Mo still see’s him as a person. In fact Chu is the only one who becomes real to him enough to shatter to barrier between love/sex and invoke feelings of both in Mo ran allowing him to actually be in love. Chu shatters his shallow view makes Mo Ran realize he was wrong to treat a person as a object for his pleasure.
Except the flower reveals its a dam lie!
Instead of an examination of the ideas/ culture and experiences that might teach a guy who to value and who to use for sex. And how those values lead to things like lack of respect for sexual consent. Which makes way too much sense considering the world Mo Ran grew up in. Which encourages the consumption of others. And the idea of how you can look past those ideas.
He loved, respected and was attracted to Chu Wanning all along. Mo ran never had to learn to respect his sexual partners. He was only ever drawn to Shi Mei, Rong Jui because of the flower, he was just weird not because he had a tendency to dis value his sex partners for shallow reasons no it was because he’s not even drawn to girly men/ladies. (rolls eyes).
Shi mei made Mo ran dismiss him as a perfect object. So him/Hau Binan being angry or influenced by dealing with Mo Ran’s objectification of Shi Mei. Which are views expressed by both halves of Shi Mei in the text. Isn’t allowed to affect Mo Ran in any way. Which is irritating since Shi mei whole deal is being part of a race that has been reduced to being treated as sub human.
Since the story has decided that doesn’t matter. The fact that Ran Mo has been the client of an actual sex slave. Ran mo and his complicity in said abuse of older man despite his age. Lets just ignore that it wasn’t his fault it was the flower.
In my opinion, that weakens Ran Mo as a character because he is never allowed to be complicit in his own negative, actions biases and even gets this special get out of jail free card. That reduces his character to nothing more then a victim of others actions.
Yes Mo Ran still does the work to make up for certain past actions but his infractions which link to the theme of the novel about dehumanization how it breeds monsters are completely ignored and outright dismissed.
#husky and his white cat shizun#2ha#mo ran#mo ran x chu wanning#chu wanning#Rong jui#shi mei#rong jiu#just this text did mo ran so dirty!#I love this book but the book anoys me!
