Champion runner Caster Semenya won a potentially landmark legal decision for sports on Tuesday when the European Court of Human Rights decided she was discriminated against by rules in track and field that force her to medically reduce her natural hormone levels to compete in major competitions.
But the two-time Olympic championâs success after her two failed appeals in sportsâ highest court in 2019 and the Swiss supreme court in 2020 came with a major caveat. The ruling didnât strike down the rules and the world track and field body said soon after it was released that the contentious testosterone regulations would âremain in place.â

What's unprepared casters? Sounds like a show I need to watch!
Itâs an amazing podcast that does shorter self contained dnd arcs, so you can jump in at any point with needing to catch up! Thereâs some interconnectivity between arcs, but for the most part they are all self contained stories that you can listen to without any context! That way you can jump in where you want!
I would recommend arc 9 since thatâs the one I was on, but I also really adore arc 4 (itâs my favorite DnD podcast story Iâve ever listened to).
Itâs on all major podcast platforms!
#ask pirateprincessjess#unprepared casters#seriously arc 4 is so good#I know a sports arc in DnD sounds weird#but it works#and it rules#orb is life baby

Lisa Needham at Public Notice:
Donald Trump and JD Vance spent the 2024 election spewing the most rank transphobia, a tactic that should have made them pariahs but instead helped win them the presidency. Even though they havenât taken office yet, their victory seems to have emboldened Republicans like Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to go all out in their attacks on trans people. Trumpâs transphobia is often focused on trans athletes, and Paxton is following his lead by suing the NCAA in Texas state court under the stateâs Deceptive Trade Practices Act. His allegation is that the NCAA is somehow swindling Texas sports fans by allowing trans athletes to compete in womenâs sporting events. Texasâs Deceptive Trade Practices Act prohibits false, misleading, or deceptive acts in commerce. According to Paxton, the NCAA is misleading sports fans by advertising womenâs sporting events when there are actually âbiological malesâ competing. Or, as the lawsuit explains, the NCAA is âlead[ing] consumers to believe that they are purchasing goods and services associated with biological sex-based sporting events.â While rightwing weirdos might be attending NCAA games because of their deep desire to associate only with âbiological sex-based sporting events,â the rest of the world watches womenâs sports because they enjoy watching them.
The complaint rolls out four more counts, each fixating on a different bit of language from the Deceptive Trade Practices Act. At root, theyâre all the same accusation: the NCAA is deceiving consumers by referring to womenâs sports because it allows trans athletes to compete in some events. Of course, for people not consumed with a fixation on genitals, the term âwomenâs sportsâ includes trans women, because they are women. It only makes sense if you first grant Texasâs transphobic premise that there is no such thing as a trans woman playing a sport â only a âbiological maleâ who has invaded a womenâs team. Ostensibly, this lawsuit is just about stopping trans athletes from competing in womenâs sports in Texas (or outside Texas if a Texas team is involved). But what it really represents is a chance for the state to spread its transphobia across the country.
Everyone knows that the GOP has made transphobia one of the centerpieces of its messaging, with the explicit goal of running trans people out of public life altogether. Theyâve particularly fixated on trans women athletes, declaring that it is their deep love for the sanctity of womenâs sports that drives them. So, itâs not surprising that Republicans have been demanding that the NCAA entirely ban trans athletes from competing.
But hereâs the thing. There are roughly 510,000 NCAA athletes. And, according to the president of the NCAA, there are fewer than 10 trans athletes total. Even if all of these efforts to âprotectâ womenâs sports were in good faith, this would still be a solution in search of a problem. Needless to say, these efforts are not in good faith, which is why, for example, the stateâs complaint wonât even use the term trans woman or trans athlete, instead calling them men or âbiological males.â Itâs why there are dozens of paragraphs about athletes who are not trans, are not NCAA athletes, and are not even American athletes, like Caster Semenya and Imane Khelif. Invoking Semenya, a South African runner, and Khelif, an Algerian boxer, is a favorite tactic of transphobic right-wingers, sending the not-so-subtle message that they will police the gender of anyone they deem insufficiently female.
[...] The state wants the court to permanently bar the NCAA from allowing trans women to compete in womenâs sporting events. In the alternative, theyâll take forcing the NCAA to stop using the term âwomenâ for sporting events where trans women can compete if the event is in Texas or involves Texas teams. As far as protecting the sacred womanhood of sports, or whatever it is Paxton is pretending he is doing here, this lawsuit is entirely unnecessary. Texas already bans trans athletes from participating in collegiate sports in the state. But thatâs not enough for Texas. It wants to reach into other states â states that may have laws that protect trans people â and impose a trans athlete ban if thereâs a Texas team playing.
Texasâs culture wars-obsessed weirdo AG Ken Paxton (R) files a frivolous lawsuit against the NCAA over phony claims that the organization is âdeceivingâ people by using the term âwomenâs sportsâ when a trans woman is competing. This lawsuit is about eliminating trans people from public life fully and not a darn thing about âprotectingâ the âsanctityâ of womenâs sports.

Thought: Lesterâs nickname from when he did archery should be Apollo! Because of how good he was! And now people call him and Rachel Apollo and the Oracle because of the thing with her predicting the athletes moves and and him already being nicknamed Apollo! Or something like that!
I really like this! And it fits into their canon identities perfectly. Almost, as if, I planned it that way 𩷠Iâm so happy you agree it fits!
I love the idea of them both getting nicknames for being so good at what they do.

Itâs a bit dishonest to claim the âbanâ is discriminatory; the guidelines do not ban transgender women from all sporting events, as itâs been reported on in some countries, but only from sporting events in the female category. Transgender women are not female, so why should they be permitted to compete in the female category?
I think one of the major problems around the âdebateâ is the infantilisation of female athletes. Weâre not seen as talented or capable as our male athletic counterparts, so our athletes and achieved can be framed as being about âinclusionâ and âfunâ and âartisticâ (rather than âcompetitiveâ or âseriousâ or âthrillingâ).
I think one of the other major problems around the âdebateâ is the willingness of well-minded people to ignore how sex differences practically play out in patriarchy (or, in other words, people are just too âsex-blindâ). Of course female and male athletes have different sporting capacities - our sports arenât âgender-neutralâ/âbody-neutralâ - theyâre designed to show-case male bodies!
#notice how the debate is always 'transgender males in the female category' and never 'transgender females in the male category'#the article mentions caster semenya - a person who has a DSD/intersex condition that only bio males can get#anyway i'm glad some sporting bodies have the guts to reinforce sex SEPARATION#stuff the abc for claiming that 'transgender females are being banned from the female category' - transgender women are transgender males#90% of the people who express opinions on this issue don't play sports lol (i do)#sport#transgender#radfem#radfem safe

Basically sports are never going to be a Totally Fair And Equal playing field where the only thing that determines your success is how hard you work because there are always going to be a million different types of bodies and genetic potentials in any category you might think to create. AND it is worth having SOME categories to make sports a little closer to fair and give more people a chance to be competitive. But the categories people choose to obsessively, rigidly police, the things about which people will say "THIS thing has to be EXACTLY EQUAL, nevermind all the other things that are not equal that I will never mention"... are. Telling
#good for Caster Semenya give her a fucking break#I ran almost daily for two years before setting my current half marathon PR on a flat track#my friend did a couple runs a week for five months and then beat my PR by five minutes on a hilly course#on her first half marathon attempt#that's sports babey#some people just have bodies that are gonna be better at it than you and#you can't control for ALL of it without becoming a lot worse than what you're trying to prevent
