Mary, Did You Know? is by far my least favourite because Biblically speaking, she definitely did know (at least, most of the things the song says)

I understand. Like, yeah, biblically and historically I believe that Mary did know, of the 16 or so questions, 14 of them. And the two I did not include (walking on water and calming the storm), are just because those are not in prophecies nor direct divine nature.

That said, I think the point of the song is to invite contemplation on the relationship between Mary and her Son. Ofc she knew her Son is God (and I do believe that Mary was the first to know the divinity of the Christ as the Annunciation - "the Lord is with you" means "Yahweh is with you"). But that is so much different than just having given birth and seeing your baby, helpless and defenseless and dirty, and knowing that THAT is God. It's one thing to know your child will die for the world (which I also do believe Mary knew; when, I am not sure but possibly from the beginning), but it is another entirely to see your child dead. In your arms. It's another entirely to bury him.

So in that way, I do know think she did know.

"Knowledge" in scripture is more than just knowing about the way I know about a celebrity. It is to have intimate, relational, experiential relationship with a concept or being (which is why it's a euphemism for sex).

Mary did not know intimately and experientially and relationally what it would mean to have the Christ Child.

And no one but her ever will (which makes it hard for me to try to write poems about it even tho i love to)

None of this is supposed to make you like LOVE the song or something lol. But I do genuinely think this is how the song is best interpreted. Not as a theological essay, but a meditation on the incarnation. It's a song that brings me to tears. Because I would love to know the Christ the way Mary did.

But I also know that such an experience would likely destroy me. It's like I've said before. Mary was just some girl, but Mary was not just some girl.

And now I am just crying about Our Lady lolll. Sorry she makes me emotional

Those who chose this pile are sabotaging their own relationships, in general and romantically. With the specific deck I'm pulling from, the Six of Coins comes with the revelation that being open and welcoming towards others and being open to exchanging with other people is not necessarily an equal give and take, but instead doing so "sustainably and equitably". Reveal information and give resources of yourself to others sustainably - meaning don't give your last or until it's almost your last and equitably - when you feel that it's fair to based on what they have also done. Be willing to face your fears when it comes to receiving and giving love instead of hiding because of them. Remember to be aware of when people are not who they seem! Being open does not mean being privy to ignorance. 

Love is not meant to be an easy battle ground, but sometimes the battle is easier to fight than you make it. You may overthink people's intentions and be overly on-guard towards everyone when specific people have not given you a reason to go on the defense. This is part of what you do in making the process of receiving love harder on yourself. Be willing to take risks and receive blessings from it or lessons. You can never heal if you never push yourself to receive healing by going outside of your comfort zone. The many wounds people have wounded you should not allow you to lick at your wounds for eternity. The song "Work That" by Mary J. Blidge fits this vibe very well! When you're pushed to the ground, you have to be willing to process your emotions and keep going rather than allowing yourself to shut down. Show care for yourself even though others have not done the same.

Pile two, you're being kind of greedy when it comes to love. You may be thinking of going the sugar baby route? Or you're seeking out those who are financially stable or rich when looking for love. This isn't inherently bad, but the way you're doing it is so. You may be wanting a lifestyle that you see often on TV that others have and envying them which is distorting your view of the emotion/action/idea of love. "Materialism" and "scamming" are literally mentioned in the deck I'm using. It's okay to be ambitious and to therefore want to be connected with ambitious people, but you can't just dream of receiving things for the sake of receiving. You have to be willing to work for what it is you want to receive instead of feeding off of others. I'm getting that maybe you weren't in a stable financial situation when growing up, and so you seek those who are now in order to comfort yourself now (and your inner child from then). The thing is that you have to be who your inner child needed when you were a kid - not necessarily others, if that makes sense. You may be used to hearing the word "yes" a ton. You may have tapped into your sexuality at some point and utilized it to gain things you may not have had access to before. You may be tapped into your intuition and spiritual forces, but do you actually use them to your benefit? Do you use them to heal the pain that's been festering within you for years now? Do you use it to be your own hero? 

Cowrie shells keep being shown in the cards for this pile; they represent wealth, abundance, prosperity, femininity, fertility, and things of that nature. The thing is that you're going to receive plenty of financial abundance on your own. You don't need to seek out others in order to gain it, so why let it taint your view of what love should be? You need a total upheaval of your idea of love. Whatever you think it is at this moment, erase it from your mind. If possible, think of how you saw love as a child - before you were able to worry about the necessity of money. What was the essence, the purity, of love in your eyes? The change in the definition of what love is for you is necessary to avoid heartache from settling into who you are. With the Seven of Baskets, this deck asks "do you know what you really want? What is truly going to bring you peace?". I'm gonna tell you the obvious that money is not going to bring you the peace or love that you want; it hasn't worked for anyone in the history of humanity, and it won't work now. Focus on developing a new idea of love and, in turn, a new idea of you. You are more than the people who love you. Please, have the courage to confront the debilitating view you have of who you are and what you deserve. It will be a tough road to navigate, but it will be better than the road you're taking now.

You are totally capable of motivating yourself and hyping yourself up; you are capable of showing yourself the love you crave. 

The people who chose this pile may be scared of taking life by the reins for themselves. You may not think you're dominant or courageous or extroverted enough. You may think that you've fallen into this persona of being unlovable or being someone others don't want to be around or listen to, but you can't allow those former ideas and feelings keep you from becoming the best version of who you are. Some of you might have felt drawn to pile one because of the similar message! - When John dory heard that you were apart of Pentatonix he was confused not knowing the band but when he found out that you were apart of a band like him he was so happy - A smile tugged on his lips as he asked to watch one of your shows as you kisses his cheek saying you would as long as he behaved cause sometimes he would be... very loud when cheering you on from the sidelines - He loves how you often practice your singing and dance moves alone while singing and he cheers you on but when you threw your shoe at him once at practice for embarrassing you lets say your friends were snickering at how you were so flustered - You peppered John dory's face when done as he chuckles enjoying how he embarrassed you were - Likes to go to you for tips of harmonizing much better - He asked about you and your group alot as you told him that the band you were apart of was characterized by their pop-style arrangements with vocal harmonies, basslines, riffing, percussion, and beatboxing, as you and your group produce cover versions of modern pop works or Christmas songs, sometimes in the form of medleys, along with your own songs as he smiles nodding - He loves when you and your group do covers of Brozone songs together and smiles at you in admiration - You and John do your own song covers together singing and dancing - He asks you for helping him and his brothers with voice preps and loves when you try to show the group to hit high notes since they sometimes struggle and John dory smirks - John dory enjoys going to your shows and singing and enjoys how your group had your own unique musical style and impressive vocal harmonies.

- No cause I had an idea where Clay is a fan of Pentatonix's music and he admires its complexity and elegance! and you being apart of the band without him realizing he just stares at you with wide eyes - He is particularly impressed by the way you intricate harmonies with smooth transitions between different voices and especially yours cause he finds it so comforting - He loves to go to your shows and smiles at you and gives a wave as you wave back happily to see your partner

- He enjoys analyzing your music sometimes and finding patterns that are present throughout the songs and encourages you to practice more when you need to... def not cause he loves hearing you sing while he works - He doesn't like dancing like he used to but when you need ideas he would suggest some and you always giggle and pepper his face with kisses

Kaito: Self Portrait by Tailia Mar

Kaito knew from the start who you were. He had already followed you on every platform. He bought some of your merchandises too. But you wondered how he became a fan. So, this is the story on how he became your biggest fan. 

Kaito is known for keeping up with the lasted gossip. He’s scrolling on social media half his time. As he is scrolling on TikTok. He came across your page. You were currently singing a song as you do your makeup. No autotune or any background sounds. It was all just your voice. You were singing “It's different now” Pentatonix Version.

Kaito loved to sweet sound of your voice. It was smooth, gentle and full of emotions. He clicked on your page to explore a little to learn more about you. You had posted a few videos from your concerts. He played the video that was pinned on top. There you were wearing the most beautiful outfit as you sing and dance to, “Self Portrait.” 

The way you held confidence and style to your performance. He loved it all, so he followed your account. Kaito even bench watched all of your concert videos. Taking notes of each of your songs so he can download them onto his playlist. He listens to them on repeat, day in and day out. Your voice was so angelic to him. The time you published the soft-core album. BAM, that's now his song for when he tries to sleep. Now that he is your friend. He has become more of a diehard fan of yours. He brags about how amazing you are. Often makes you blush at his sweet dorky compliments.  

Now you might be thinking, he couldn’t possibly get worse? You are wrong, once you and him become a couple. He would burn holes in his pocket to support you. Got a concert coming up? Bought the tickets and will drag Luca with him. Upcoming interview on TV? Set a time and date on his phone. Want him to be there for your rehearsals? You can count on him to make it. If he doesn’t need to take extra classes. Other than that, he’s pretty normal. Just a normal boyfriend supporting you while standing in the crowd. Tears and snot running down as you sing your heart out.  

Your voice is so heavenly to him. 

Lyca: The Night We Meet: Lord Huron 

You took a break from your career. Of course, part of it was due to you being at Darkwick.  Although, you still sing or hum to yourself. Being around the Ghouls and all, has inspired you a lot. So, here you are writing and playing on the guitar. Your friend, Lyca always enjoyed the stories you and Subaru would read. Sure, it has a lot of pictures, but it helped him understand. So, you came up with an idea. What if you came up with songs that were easier for him to understand? Lyca isn’t stupid or anything. You just thought it would make him happy if you wrote the books he likes in song form. Therefore, that's what you are doing. 

Lyca sat next to you as he glances from his drawings every now and then. As he looks over to your pages. He can read a little bit of what you wrote down. After you wrote down the chorus part. You played the melody on the guitar. Even though it was a small bit. You have played, he liked it. He can tell that this one will be touching, but soothing. 

After an hour of working, both of you decided to show case what you’ve worked on. He showed you, his drawings. It was few pictures of the things that were around the room. One of them was you writing. In the drawing, you were seated by the table writing down the music notes as you stick out your tongue. Lyca has placed in every detail he saw. From the tongue sticking out, your eyelashes, your side hair neatly tucked behind your ear. Everything, this of course makes you feel warm. After he showed you, his work. You played the song,” The night we met.” 

Hearing your voice sing the song. He finds himself in some kind of trance. His entire focus was you and only you. The rest of the room becomes a blur. Now he was met with these strange feelings. He wanted to be closer to you. Not just physically, but emotionally too. But of course, he wasn’t sure of that until he asked Subaru. Right now, he felt calm but nervous. He felt warm but cold at the same time. He was lost but confused about every single thing he was feeling. 

Once, you have finished singing. You have asked, him what does he think. He didn’t respond due to all of the confusion in his head. Lyca finally snaps out of it after you called several times. After repeating the question, he answered. He really liked it. It makes him feel calm.  

Just like you do for him when you are around

Jiro: Six Pills Rosendale(warning: mental health topic: small theme of depression, anxiety and coping mechanisms)

As an Idol, comes a lot of hate too. You’re not pretty or handsome enough. Your music sucks and so and so, is better than you. Your outfit is ugly. No one watches you on tv, or even care if you die. You even hate extremely vile comments under your posts. Disgusting comments you wouldn’t dare to read again or repeat what was said. You know that people are mean. People are simply, nasty. Yet, it really hurts you. As an Idol you began to compare yourself to other Idols. Little by little, your self-esteem crumbled. Late at night, you decided to go on a walk. Things started to get into your head after reading some of the comments on your last post. So, you decided a walk to clear your mind. Your feet took you wherever it wanted. You ended up in front of mortkraken. Jiro was seen by the window with his back facing you.  

Slowly turning around, the front door opens. “MC? What are you doing here?” the sound of a deep voice was heard. Turning back around to face the voice. It was Jiro, no surprise there. “I was just walking around.” You played it off with a nervous laugh. The cold wind passes by, and it sends shiver down your body. He then asks you if you wanted to come in since its cold. With hesitation, you ended up agreeing. Jiro left to fix tea for Yuri and you. As you looked around, you saw medicine bottles. One of them had red colored pills. It reminded you of all the medication you were taking. They were for your mental health. Six different medications, you were off of them due to extreme reasons. 

As you were looking at these pills. You have begun to realize that you were okay. Maybe not fully mentally okay. Yet, you were seeing a therapist about it. You last half a year without those medicine. You thought about what each of them were for.

Which quickly changed to,

After to close call you had back then. You switched doctor and left the medications behind. Life got a little easier after each session with your therapist. You still felt uneasy about using medicine again. But as Jiro enters the room again. You asked him for pen and paper. He hands it to you, and you began to write. You wrote out your struggles and hinted about the incident that took place. Once you have finished writing. You stood up quickly and kissed Jiro on the cheek. Thanking him as you walked out with the paper. Confused on what happened, he shrugged it off. Later in life, he walked the halls only to hear a few students talk about your new song. He hears one of the students play the song. 

“Six Pills hm?” 

Haku: Dirty Dishes by King Mala

When it comes to this man. He is a total flirt. Yet, he makes you feel so good. So, of course you wrote about him. This man gives you a reason to clean up. Not only your act, but literally your room. He gives you reasons to look forward the next day. As you both spend time together. You noticed him admitting he’s a little lazy. You took notes of that. Even took notes on how he treats you. How respectful he is. He calls you “princess/prince.” He’ll save you a seat. Hand over his jacket when you are cold. Checks up on you daily. 

The list goes on forever. So, there you are sitting on the bed. Writing all the lyrics down. You couldn’t wait to record this. This song was different than your usual type of music. It didn’t matter though. You were excited for this song. Once you have finished the song. You quickly recorded the song. It took a while for it to be published. But you knew it would be worth it. 

Meanwhile, your whole attitude changed since you came to Darkwick. At first you were anxious and scared. Now, you feel a little relax. That is all thanks to Haku. Your room was mess and so was the whole building. You used to use that as an excuse. Clothes on the floor, bed isn’t made, dishes in the sink and so on. When Haku started to come around more. You became self-conscious about your mess. The ones you’ve created, not the ones that were here already. So, then you began to clean around the place. 

“Got dirty dishes in my sink 

So many filthy memories 

I can’t even think, don’t got it figured out 

But you wanna come over now.” 

All the way to, 

“And it’s not me, but I wanna be 

A better version of you 

That’s why I’m tryna be cool 

But I’ve never seen a promise through.” 

You had made Haku promise that he wouldn’t listen to the song until you were next to him physically. So, he kept the promise to you. You both decided on a lunch date. He got the food and you brough the blanket and pillows to lay on. After you guys ate the food and chatted. He begged you to allow him to hear the new song. Giving him a smile and light laugh. You gave in and pulled up the song. Before pressing play, you told him it was about him. Haku raised a brow in curiosity. Then you played the song. 

“Won’t you please take it easy on me? 

Just go easy on me. (3x) 

As the song ends, you smiled at him nervously. He smiled and rubbed the top of your head. If only you knew that you to make him clean up his act too.

You may overthink people's intentions and be overly on-guard towards everyone when specific people have not given you a reason to go on the defense. This is part of what you do in making the process of receiving love harder on yourself. Be willing to take risks and receive blessings from it or lessons. You can never heal if you never push yourself to receive healing by going outside of your comfort zone. You may have tapped into your sexuality at some point and utilized it to gain things you may not have had access to before. You may be tapped into your intuition and spiritual forces, but do you actually use them to your benefit? Do you use them to heal the pain that's been festering within you for years now? Do you use it to be your own hero? 

Cowrie shells keep being shown in the cards for this pile; they represent wealth, abundance, prosperity, femininity, fertility, and things of that nature. The thing is that you're going to receive plenty of financial abundance on your own. You don't need to seek out others in order to gain it, so why let it taint your view of what love should be? If possible, think of how you saw love as a child - before you were able to worry about the necessity of money. What was the essence, the purity, of love in your eyes? Creative Spotlight #3: Jeong Yunho

Intro: With so many new Atinys coming in, I figured now would be a good time to shed some light on all the boys' creative solo projects over the years, big and small.

ANEWZ

Yunho once shared he wanted to be a news reporter/anchorman when he was younger which led to the inception of ANEWZ back in 2020:

That same year, he got to meet Jang Sung Kyu, an anchor he'd been looking up to, and interview him to get some tips and advice (yes, this was in the same video where Wooyoung sat so hard on Seonghwa's lap, Seonghwa looked like he was about to cry and that's why the view count is so high):

ANEWZ is by far the most consistent content we get from any of the members, with the most recent one being released on July 24th of this year:

We get Yunho talking to himself on the regular, interviewing other members, dropping the gossip about behind the scenes shenanigans and more. It's lovely.

Imitation Soundtrack

As a main cast member of the drama Imitation, Yunho was part of the fictional group Sparkling, together with Seonghwa and San, which means he also participated in various performances throughout the show, but let's highlight the most iconic one right here and now:

They made fun of Diamond for so long and still do sometimes ("FInalLY NOW, it's my tIME"). This performance is also where that dance move comes from Yunho is doing here (watch older content and you'll see Wooyoung doing that every five minutes - iconic):

Cover Song

The first cover he ever released on Ateez's channel came out 3 months ago, titled Even If It's Your Happiness:

Filmed on an old camera, the footage is grainy and in 3-by-4 format, giving it that nostalgic 90's feel. The song itself kicks off extremely pretty and cute, cozy and warm, perfectly fitting Yunho's voice and the self-shot footage which shows us the world through his eyes.

Then, reaching the halfway mark, the song explodes, drums kicking in, and we get to hear his powerful register, allowing him to really show off as a vocalist. It's really beautiful.

Original Song

On October 3rd, 2024, Be Alright was posted on Ateez's YouTube channel, a song written and composed by Yunho and Hongjoong together with Lakov and Balm. In a Live, Hongjoong claimed Yunho did 90% of the work on the song, but Yunho later denied this in his own Live (see below) and said he merely sang Hongjoong's song. Both are most likely stretching the truth a bit.

It's a beautiful song featuring a lot of piano accompanying Yunho's voice. (You can listen to Hongjoong's guide track here.) And as you listen, pay attention to the background vocals and you will ascend, I promise you. The lyrics are also deeply vulnerable, telling the story of a fight with depression and how much that can take from you.

The sadness, the loneliness, the isolation, the tiring struggle of rebuilding yourself as you make your way back out of that deep dark hole depression threw you into. Inch by inch, step by step, rediscovering your own personality and interests along the way, realizing only then everything depression took from you. Eventually, you start feeling hope for the future again. You realize you could survive all that pain and suffering your own brain put you through day in and day out for so long which means, no matter what else life throws at you now, you're strong enough to make it through. You'll be alright.

Like Hongjoong and San, Yunho has now also made his debut in the fashion world. In his case, by attending Seoul Fashion Week for designer KWAKHYUNJOO, as can be seen on his Instagram:

There’s sunlight coming in from the window. It’s a bright evening in LA, filled with sunshine and a gentle breeze. It’s warm, but you don’t mind.

You’re chopping carrots, and it’s soothing, in a way, the rhythmic sound of the knife falling against wood.

Clack-clack-clack…

You’re humming along a song that’s playing on this Spotify mix, even if you don’t know the words. You don’t mind, it’s a happy song all the same, it fits the love filling up the room.

“Alright, the tomatoes are done! How are the carrots coming?” Ben asks, peering over your shoulder to spy on your progress.

“They’re being cut into pieces.”

“Good, good… Not gonna lie, you’re a little scary with this huge knife, lovely.”

“Me? Scary?”

“Or hot. I haven’t really decided if I’m frightened or horny…”

You laugh at that, ceasing your movements so you could turn your head and kiss his lips.

“You’re ridiculous.”

“Hurry up! I’m waiting for your carrots.”

He wraps his arms around your waist, pressing his torso against your back and resting his cheek on the top of your head.

“You smell so nice,” he whispers. “Is that a new shampoo?”

“It is.”

“I like it. It smells sweet. Almost as sweet as you are…”

“You’re so cheesy…”

“You love that about me.”

“I don’t.”

“Liar.”

When he presses his lips against your pulse, his beard burning the soft skin of your neck, you can’t help the shivers that run up your spin, can’t refrain the sharp intake of breath that makes your heart stutter, and Ben smiles smugly at the sound.

“Liar,” he repeats, his large hands rubbing your sides now.

“We’re cooking, Ben.”

“I know. I’m not doing anything,” he answers, all innocence.

“Keep your hands to yourself, then, mister.”

“Hmm… I’d rather keep them on you.”

As if to prove a point, he holds you tighter again, making you laugh.

He’s being silly, and adorable, and there is nothing in your home now but laughter and love and the brightness of the Californian sun. It feels a little like a dream, you have to remind yourself that this is real, that Ben is here, in your kitchen, and not on the other side of the world working on a new project. No, instead, he’s making dinner with you; taking your time, enjoying each other’s presence and basking in the warmth of his body against yours, the sound of his laughter, the tickling of his beard against your cheek.

“You’re very good at cutting carrots, the bits are all regular and all,” he compliments you.

“Thank you.”

“You’re lovely.”

You giggle at that.

“Thanks.”

“You’re beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous.”

“Babe…”

“What?”

“Thank you.”

“Just speaking the truth.”

He peppers kisses on your cheek, assaulting the skin with his lips, brushing his beard there on purpose to make your heart stutter and it does, he hears it in the quickening of your breathing.

And he loves it. Every second of this evening, spent with you, in your kitchen, is absolutely delightful and he wishes he could stop time for a while. Or rather, no, he doesn’t want to stop time, he simply wishes this could happen every day for the rest of his life. Yes, yes that would be so nice…

“I love you,” he whispers in your ear, before kissing the tender spot right behind it, and the gesture and tone so filled with love and tenderness that it’s almost too much for you to take.

“I love you too, baby,” you answer in the same quiet, gentle tone. “I’m so glad you’re home.”

He tightens his hold on you a little, just as you cut the last piece of vegetable, wipe your hands clean on a kitchen towel. You wriggle in his arms to turn around, so you can face him and wrap your arms around his shoulders. He presses your lower back to the kitchen counter, bumping his nose into yours.

“I’m going to sound very cheesy again,” he warns you with a smile half-amused, half-tender, “but I’m so happy right now. I just… I know this is nothing fancy we’re doing now, in this kitchen. I know we’re just preparing dinner, and nothing is more mundane than that. But I adore it. I adore it because I’m doing it with you, and you make the most boring things exciting and special and beautiful. Your presence is enough to make everything extraordinary. I’ve had my fair share of dreams in my life, but now… now I reckon that my dream would be to have the most boring life possible with you. Nothing special happening, nothing crazy, no adventures, just… just this. I just want this till I die. That would be a very, very good life.”

You hold him tight, bury your face in the crook of his neck to hide how your eyes are now filled with tears, how you struggle to hold them back.

“That’s all I want too, Ben. Just this. Just you.”

Your knife, the carrots, the tomatoes, the salt and pepper and everything else is forgotten while you simply hug, hold each other tight, your ear pressed to the steady beating of his heart and his lips pressed to your hair. Eyes closed, the sun still enters the window of your kitchen, splashes photons on your empty plates and onto the counter. The music is still playing, it’s changed to a quiet song that fits the stillness of the air, the tender hold of lovers above a clear sky.

It lasts a long while, your tender hold. None of you move for what feels like a minute but lasts much more than that. There is a calmness to this moment, a peace you can find only in his arms, a certainty Ben has found nowhere but in your warmth.

He smiles at the change of music though, because this song is cheesy, just like him. He knows you love it, and can’t help but tease you about it.

When Elton John’s voice echoes through the kitchen, Ben starts gently rocking you, and he feels the grin that forms on your lips through his t-shirt.

He starts singing at the chorus, and you do too, looking up at him as he presses his forehead to yours, taking hold of your hand to properly dance with you.

Can you feel the love tonight?

He makes you spin before the chorus ends, making you laugh, and there is no brighter sound that could echo through this room. He catches you again, sways to the song with you. A slow, quiet dance to a love song you adore, there in the kitchen surrounded by a mess of spoons and knives and half-cut vegetables. And it’s perfect. Ben’s warm, deep voice singing along and messing the lyrics a few times, and you missing a few notes, and your hold on him unfaltering, and his hold on you unwavering. Eyes staring into the gaze you adore. And your heart skips beats after beats, and Ben has butterflies flying across his stomach, and you both adore it. You feel safe, like never before.

And it’s nothing special, nothing fancy, nothing incredible. It’s mundane and unbelievably simple. It’s perfect.

Can you feel the love tonight?
