literal moments before this: a group of people in the crowd suddenly started chanting for miles to play standing next to me. he acknowledged it for a moment with the hint of a nostalgic/wistful smile, and then proceeded to level us all with reactionary, wry, raised-eyebrows look and launched immediately into see ya when i see ya instead. and this isn’t even my milex brain talking (the girl next to me literally went “oh wow”), the way he did it was genuinely SO loud. like it was an unmistakeable expression that so clearly showed he feels something about those two songs is inherently connected. it was such a from-the-gut, instinctive response and it spoke VOLUMES. i wish wish WISH i'd managed to catch it on video because i know my description is not doing it justice at all, but trust me. it really packed a punch. like there was this reminder of the most popular puppets song from the crowd (and one that’s particularly associated with all their milex antics at that) , and then this visceral expression from miles of "yeah, none of that anymore" or "look at where we are now" as he introduced see ya when i see ya. there were just. SO many emotional layers. and like yes, i know it's sort of an open secret that see ya when i see ya might be about alex and their creative/personal relationship, but god. this really felt so close to an open admission that that’s the case.

I know it’s probably overhyped by now, but I saw the wicked movie and it’s so fucking good. Like it legitimately brings Broadway magic to a movie theater. I saw it on Broadway. This is a damn good adaptation. There were parts I even liked more.

I was thinking “it can’t be that good” but they were so confident that they were going to release this thing in two parts so I had to give it a shot. They cooked. It was a full course meal. Defying Gravity is really the act one showstopper so good that it’ll make people come back after a ten month intermission. It was insane.

That’s it.

From now on if they can’t do what this movie did, just want a pro shot. A big Broadway musical should be nothing short of stunning and they understood the assignment.

Lots of people have already pointed this out, but Ruoska seems to be a play on their careers and their public image. The song disguises itself as an expression of kinkier desires with the chorus and snippets of the verses' lyrics. And them, since they both express themselves within these themes in the media from time to time. The music video balances this by not being explicit at all, instead it's all about the scrutiny of being a public figure.

Listening to the lyrics and seeing the mv, my impression of the song is that its message isn't actually about expression of sxual freedom, but taking twisted pleasure from being torn to shreds by the media. Because if your image has unconventional aspects, that's sharkbait to peoples opinions, especially when you've gained fame.

With that, I cant' help but wonder, if it was intentional to promo the song first and foremost as sxual? Because that's the shallow top-layer people love to stay on, and if there's no deeper dive into the message, that's what people will criticize and comment on?

Which would make it fucking hilarious that they went on with the photoshoots and iltalehti interview about "being explicit" since that's exactly what that trash magazine will focus on solely.

Don't really follow the band but I am going to get yelled at if I say the ghost phone ban from like an artist pov is a really good idea?

Like I get the accessibility stuff but I assume the band would still be putting out on content from the tour on official channels??

and maybe it because I have yelled at people at shows before for just ignore medical and other safety issues and not moving out of the way cause the were on their phones in their own worlds, and the phones are a big part of that problem.
