Missa's entire social life was admittedly....in flames. It was all bad timing that he just had to get into an argument with Roier about what happened to his cat, so now Roier won't speak with him and the fact Spreen just straight up vanished without leaving a message nor call. Missa wasn't very close with others, only knowing them via Spreen or Roier so ...what a way to spend his vacation.

Missa could catch up on his games, maybe teach himself to play another instrument than a guitar or...scroll the Internet and mourn his miserable non-existent social life. He sighed, running his hand through his hair which was a bit greasy...so he needed to shower, but first, maybe he should go on his computer and actually see if there were any indie games or something he could download while he showered.

Missa searched through the Internet, and searched through Reddit as well to help give him an idea of what game would catch his attention. The Adventure of Angel Death...

Hm.

Angel Death?

That sounds like something interesting, sounds like a horror indie game or something actually. However, to Missa's surprise, it wasn't a horror game but more or less like those ai pets that helps with browsing. It just happens to be more slightly advanced because it has built in story mode, it could do slight programming and vice versa.

Well ... It had its own story and it couldn't hurt to try something. He could delete it later if it's not much, since the ratings weren't really high for this one. Missa clicked download and with that, he headed off to take a much needed bath, unaware of his computer screen turning blue with multiple tabs opening.

Missa sighed, drying his hair with his towel, squeezing out all the water from his hair as he approached his computer. He was glad that the download seemed to be finished, as there was a tab open, awaiting for him to click some agreement terms, which he did.

He was not gonna bother reading through paragraphs of words, when it mainly repeated the same thing. With that out of the way, it seems he can now...finally play this game?

A crow appeared on his screen, seemingly looking lost for a moment with a green and white stripped bucket hat in its beak, until a figure appeared, seemingly chasing after this crow.

"Give me my hat, right now! Why are you always stealing my things!" The AI huffed, snatching it's hat back from the crow before looking up at Missa. "Oh! I didn't see you there, mate. Hello!"

Missa couldn't stop the smile growing on his face, and quietly hummed. Maybe the game won't be so bad after all? I mean this ...figure was really cute, or well looks like a better version of that anime character, that Missa cannot remember for the life of him. The developer must have gotten real inspired by the anime..but still added their own personal tastes to the AI, possibly to avoid copyrights.

Philza.

That was his name, and man, Missa hasn't had so much fun even if it was simple. Philza asked simple questions, like what is his name, his favorite color and hobby while he seemingly read a book that appears from thin air as Missa types his answers. Missa was honestly impressed with the programming, since Philza seemed to have full range control on his computer and was able to pull immediate results or answers when Missa typed a question into the search engine.

Now it seems Philza did have a story program set in him, in which he opens another tab for Missa. It was a simple game, he just had to do simple tasks assigned by his friends; Tommy and Techno.

Techno was quite easy, it was to decorate the cabin! He added a few wolves, painted the whole cabin in blue and purple and added way too many skulls. Philza had a good laugh out of that one, amused by the amount of skulls that Missa had added.

"Well, your room is certainly interesting" Philza laughed and Missa smiled. It's weird how this little ai knew how to make him smile or probably because he's just starved of actual contact

Speaking of that... Missa frowned when he spotted a message from Roier. He didn't realize how long he spent playing this small quest, the message was there for hours and Missa barely recognized it. He didn't know what to say exactly, in fact, he just wanted to ignore it entirely but...

"Hey mate, you've been distracted by that message for a while now" Philza spoke, his voice snapping Missa out of his thoughts. Missa closed the message browser and sighed.

"Good choice, mate" Philza said, a hint of amusement in his tone. "We have plenty of other tasks to do, surely you have enough time"

Missa did, so he followed the new instructions Philza gave him to add a new game mode it seemed.

Hide and Seek

Missa didn't know where he was, frankly. He was... somewhere, tunnels that closed in on him. He couldn't make out most of the tunnels, with how pitch black it was and all he had was this torch to guide his way. He faintly could hear humming and footsteps that clattered against the stone...

Missa peeked around the corner, and could see a red cape flutter and he immediately hid back, silently praying that he wasn't spotted or at least heard. He covered his mouth with his free hand, trying to keep his heavy breathing quiet.

"Found you, mate"

Missa shrieked, as he immediately sat up, his eyes immediately darting around and ... He wasn't in tunnels, where it was damp and cold. He was...back in his room, where it was safe and warm. The computer was still on...and Philza's persona was asleep, or at least shut down since it seemed Missa was inactive for a while.

"....Dios mios...That dream.." Missa sighed, running his hand through his hair as he tried to process what he just had. He winced when his neck slightly twinged, and he mournfully had to turn off his computer to actually get some sleep or else his neck will be the least of his worries.

Philza opened his eyes when he felt the computer turn off, and while Missa couldn't see him anymore. Philza will always still see him and he quietly sighed. He frankly hated these moments where Missa had to sleep, I mean, it's much better being awake and doing fun activities but ... He supposes that taking a moment to relax and wind down is admittedly nice to take. It gave Philza time to jot down future ideas, or references to the games Missa had in his computer and to delete the incoming messages from Roier and Mariana.

He admired their stubbornness, but it was starting to get on his nerves a little. Can't they see he's trying to have fun? He was so close, he finally got to tap deeper in Missa's own dreams...

Slowly, bit by bit, Philza will be the only thing Missa will remember. He doesn't need these other friends to make him happy, all Missa needs to do is enter his world...and be happy with him, Techno and Tommy. However, Philza is patient, he will...bite down the urge to pull Missa straight away. He needs more time to create the perfect world for Missa.

Just a bit more... information and soon, Missa will finally be in his arms.

This epic Silm/aSoIaF crossover is the third part of Tribble's Everlasting Song series. It's gripping, fantastically written and very carefully thought out. You won't regret checking out how the sons of Feanor, reborn in Westerosi noble families, navigate the aSoIaF world.

2. The Valiant by whyyesindeed

Reborn Fingon returns to Beleriand to find his husband just before the Third Kinslaying in this beautiful and touching fic. It has a sequel too, which I haven't read yet, but I'm sure it's just as well-written as the first part.

3. Celechwes Fixes the Noldor by @tanoraqui

To my shame, I haven't finished this fic yet, but I can't recommend it enough. Celechwes - who marries both Fingon and Maedhros - is a delightful protagonist, the story flows so smoothly and is so much fun to read, while also being very moving.

4. The Seven Trials of Fingon the Valiant by @melestasflight and @polutrope

All seven sons of Feanor court Fingon in this hilarious, brilliant and inspiring fic. I had so much fun reading it, and if you haven't yet, please do yourselves a favor.

5. For We Walk by Faith, Not by Sight by an_evasive_author

This fic began in 2019 and continues to this day, and I still love it like before. Post-Thangorodrim and beyond Russingon with canon divergence. It is exceptional but deals with a very heavy subject-matter, so make sure you read the tags.

Everything Sally writes is brilliant, but this one did something to my brain. Dark romance (like cannibalism dark) and Russingon coupled with perfect prose. It makes me go insane.

This short supply list by Miriel will delight you and break your heart. The author is an expert in this.

3. The knife that shapes the knife by @quixoticanarchy

This OC-centric fic is a careful, heartbreaking study of observing without acting, going with the flow until you sink into evil when you were trying to do good. It stayed with me for a long time.

Every single fic by the author could be here, I chose this one because it was the first one of I read. Maedhros is going through some stuff and tries to resolve it through bondage and sex. Incredible characterization and writing. Russingon, E-rated.

Examination of four Feanorian bodies post-Second Kinslaying - a brilliant idea, executed perfectly. The clinical description doesn't take away from the horror, on the contrary, adds to it.

Five Oldies but Goodies

1. No Way You Can Fall by @hhimring

Himring's Maedhros is one of my absolute favorite Maedhroses ever. This fic takes place post-canon with Maedhros freshly out of the Halls meeting a suspicious Fingolfin at Fingon's house. It is written with so much care and gentleness. It warms my heart every time I read it.

2. Tributary by @oopsbirdficced

It's a Spirited Away/Silm fusion and it's Russingon! What's not to love? Adorable, beautiful and magical, I still remember this fic from time to time, even though I read it so long ago.

3. In From the Cold by @dorwinionwhining

Short but so sweet and so well-written Russingon ficlet. The tenderness and their easiness with each other kills me. So good!

4. fools enough to love each other more than we can bear by @potatoobsessed999

After the Nirnaeth, Maedhros receives braids with golden ribbons from Morgoth. Now he has to decide if he should go and save Fingon. Unbearably painful and so good. I can't bear to reread it because it hurts so much.

5. Testrun by goldtoashes and heirsofbrokenlegacies

This is just one part of the authors' series Grow as we go. It's a Modern AU that includes pairings Maedhros/Fingon, Maedhros/Sauron, Sauron/Celebrimbor and even Maedhros/Sauron/Fingon. The whole series is amazing, but this part is my favorite because it's just Maedhros and Fingon in domestic bliss. The series is E-rated, this one part is M-rated.

Five Fics of My Own

1. Lady Makalaurë Fëanáriel Dying of Poison, Late Second Age, Artist Unknown

Post-canon Maglor wanders alone in her spaceship until she discovers something that Gil-galad has to know. This fic doesn't get much attention, which is understandable (it's an AU, a Space AU at that, genderbent and Maglor/Wife), but I loved writing it and I still like it. This was my second TRSB fic this year, and it's the first time I wrote two fics for this event, so I'm pretty proud of it.

2. My cannibalism ficlet and it's companion the other cannibalism ficlet

The first one is quite tragic because I like tormenting Fingon. The second one is lighter in mood, but it's still about cannibalism, so.

3. Alone in the Unknown

The angstiest thing I've ever written. It's the latest part of my Fingon Lives AU. This one focuses on Maglor and his futile attempts to bring Maedhros out of his near-catatonic state.

4. Fingolfin and Fingon and later Maedhros and Fingon discuss some heavy subjects

Not to be too modest, but I think I did some of my best writing here. Fingolfin has fears that Maedhros might be under Morgoth's influence and shares them with his son.

5. Now a Quill, Now a Sword

Maedhros and Fingon's relationship told mostly through letters. This fic deserves a click just for @melestasflight's absolutely stunning art embedded in there if not for anything else. It was a pleasure collaborating with them.

I need to have a proper sit-down and sort them all out, but it will not be this day. Maybe over the holidays...

🎧 your favourite singer/band is going to write an album about a fic of yours - which fic and what would the album be like? This is a tiny bit of a cheat, because most of my favourite artists make music that totally doesn't align with the sort of fic I write XD but a long LONG time ago I self-published a novel, and it was absolutely inspired by Beloved by VNV Nation and a bunch of their other songs so I'd love to think of what they might have created if they'd actually been given the novel to make a soundtrack for it.

🎬 which fic would you want to see made into a movie or tv show? (Assuming obviously this can happen) Go into details about why and what you’d want it to look like! omg. I would absolutely LOVE for Empty Vessel-verse to be a movie. Series of movies. Lavishly budgeted TV series. Actors from the LotR/Hobbit series mostly playing their characters with the addition of Paisley Billings as Maudie (Bard's wife) because she has EXACTLY Maudie's chaotic energy, and Rosamund Pike as Auriel (Thranduil's wife). I'm not very visually-inclined so I haven't any other facecasts but I am prepared to be swayed by your idea of Riz Ahmed as Imrahil (he's a bit young though...hmmm...oooh wait what about Ramon Tikaram? hmmm...). The closest I've ever seen to my idea of the Twins was a piece of art that nobody seems to know who originally made it, although I'm happy to let Jason Secto do it (he's the dark-haired one who appears twice in two different places in Arwen's arrival at Minas Tirith in RotK and one of these days I will make that crazy red-string-filled Tumblr post explaining my theory; he also played Orophin in Fellowship).

Fun Facts About “Of Two Minds”

As you may have heard, my latest story, “Of Two Minds” was published in Starlite Pulp Review #2. It is the third in the Lady Sheriff Series. If you’re interested in reading my story, you can buy a copy of the review here. This post is about the fun facts / behind the scenes of this story. Enjoy!

This is not the first time I used the title “Of Two Minds” for a story. Years ago, I wrote a fantasy story by the same title, which was rejected by everyone and their brother. Just as it should have been. Since it was a failed story, I took the title and used it for this tale. The title actually suits this story better and matches up with the themes.

The song, “Hang Out the Stars in Indiana” sung by Al Bowlly, is featured in “Of Two Minds.” A British singer, he was known for “The Very Thought of You” and “Melancholy Baby,” he tragically died in a Luftwaffe Parachute Mine explosion in 1941.

Sheriff Claire Williams wears her badge when she’s on duty, and carries it around in her purse when she’s off-duty, in case she needs to put it on. I’ve tried to do research, to figure out what a sheriff’s badge from Indiana in the 1930s, and haven’t been able to come up with anything. I found this cute little badge on Temu and it matches what I’ve described in the series. I put my little badge next to an old 1917 postcard: the note is from one great-great grandmother to another, and mentions Edith giving birth to Margaret. Edith was my great-grandmother, whose story and a bit of her personality inspired Claire Williams. And Margaret was my grandma, whose stories of the past inspired many of my writings.

There’s a character named Isom in the story. On my mom’s side of the family, we have an ancestor named Isom.

Deputy Joseph Frank is a series regular character and I imagine him looking like a young Steve Buscemi.

Blackbirds show up in “Of Two Minds.” If you’re a Terre Haute/Wabash Valley native, you’re familiar with the plague of blackbirds that show up every October and torture us until the following spring. I used to live in the center of town and the birds were so bad there, when they flew in hordes over us, we’d have to run from the house to the car – or visa versa – carrying newspapers over our heads to avoid their… deposits. Our cars would be coated in a grotesque mix of white, brown, red, and black. Very nasty business.

“Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” is featured in this story, sung by Deputy Frank. I consider it the theme song for this series.

In my continual research of this time period and of the lady sheriffs in the early 20th century in general, I came across this fascinating clip on YouTube. It took me a few months, but I was able to learn the sheriff’s full name was Sheriff Jennie Walker. Her journey to sheriff was a little different from those who inherited their positions from their deceased husbands. After her husband’s failed campaign, upon the encouragement of the locals, Jennie Walker campaigned for the position and was elected…she was the first woman to be elected sheriff in Kentucky! She served the people faithfully and was respected by all. Special thanks to Knox Historical Museum for answering my many questions about Sheriff Jennie Walker. She’s become yet another part of the inspiration for my Lady Sheriff Series.

Fanmade TWST Event - Villainous∞Night

A fanmade TWST event inspired by the Vocaloid songs in the Night∞Series where something strange occurs at the Ramshackle dormitory... I wonder what will come of this everlasting night...

The Ramshackle dormitory has an elegant grandfather clock settled in the main room, ticking through silences and providing a soft background noise throughout the day and night at the dormitory. It’s a small comfort in a world that’s so unfamiliar - the quiet yet consistent ticking in the background...

I suppose that’s what made it so unsettling when, upon waking up, there was no sound at all. In fact - the sound wasn’t all that had changed...

In the place of their dorm room, anyone who shall awake during the even shall find themselves in an ornate room within a mansion - even if they fell asleep at Heartslabyul, or Savannaclaw, or any of the other dormitories... How odd...

Each person has an outfit tailored to suit the in their room, and upon finding Ramshackle’s grandfather clock halted moments before striking midnight it became clear. Something is amiss - and it’s up to the participants of the party to find a means of fixing this...

Hello and welcome to Villainous∞Night! This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while, so I hope you all like it! 

The gist of the story is that there’s a problem with the grandfather clock in ramshackle - and it’s caused characters from different AUs, timelines, or dimensions to all wake up in the mansion and be trapped there until they solve the mystery of the clock - similar to a Professor Layton investigation or a murder mystery ’whodunit’ type of thing. 

Feel free to have as much fun as you want with the story idea - use it as an excuse to see your AUs interact, or to introduce your OCs to a friend’s OCs in a new situation. Just have fun with it! (Also, feel free to ask for elaboration/clarification on anything!)

Another line is drawn right through the words he tried to write. Luke wants to throw his notebook at the wall. He can’t think, or write, the words just aren’t coming to him anymore. He claws at his hair as if pulling on the strands will allow his brain to breathe and come up with the lyrics he had been trying to write for the past two hours. It used to be so easy but he knows why it isn’t working. It wasn’t rocket science.

The words came easy when he was with you, maybe it was the excitement of having someone to write with, or maybe it was the emotions that you both pulled from. It just wasn’t the same anymore. It’s almost like you were the inspiration, the lyrics, and now that you were no longer there, the lyrics weren’t either. Even if you guys didn’t know each other that long and you weren’t the closest, you guys seemed to click and you wrote so much better with each other.

Maybe he just needs a breather. That’s what Luke banks on, that once he goes outside and caught wind of the fresh air, the words will come back. He places down his guitar and his pen and sets out for outside.

Before long, he finds himself sitting on the back porch, one knee up next to his chest and the other splayed in front of him. His eyes are trained upon the dark sky, watching the stars. He barely hears the quiet footsteps that approach him but he sees them sit down beside him, knees up to their chest, hugging them.

“Carrie,” Luke acknowledges, not even looking towards his step-sister when he breaks the silence between the two.

“Luke.”

They fall back into another silence for a few moments, simply watching the stars together. However, Luke’s attention isn’t really on the stars anymore as he thinks about the girl beside him. He remembered when his mom first told him that she was getting remarried and that he was going to get a step-sister. He remembers when they met, and Carrie was just a little too entitled for his taste, and Luke was a little too “street” for hers. They didn’t exactly get off on the best foot, and there were times that there was still some friction in their relationship which certainly wasn’t helped when Luke joined Julie and the Phantoms, but there were times that they were okay; when they shared a sibling bond.

It was hard for both of them to get used to each other, and their parents getting married. For Luke, it had been just him and his mom for a while, so he couldn’t help but feel apprehensive for this new life, not only for him to have a new step-dad and step-sister, but in case this man hurt his mom too. Yet, for Carrie it was different, it had always just been her and Trevor after her mom died during labor. She didn’t know what it was like having a mom, and she didn’t know if she wanted it. Arguably, she was scared; scared that her dad would no longer have time for her and would be spending it all with Emily but that definitely wasn’t the case.

Actually, everything worked out quite well, and soon enough Luke and Emily were moving into the Wilson’s household. It was a strange experience for Luke like he was invited into a whole other world. They came from very different backgrounds, Luke and Emily had never been well off, but Carrie never had to worry about not being able to pay the bills or anything to do with that, so their personalities were quite different. Yet, over the past few weeks, they had become significantly closer and spent more time talking to each other. Luke would show Carrie the songs you guys wrote, and Carrie would show Luke the choreography that you guys had been working on.

They knew exactly why they had become closer, they weren’t stupid. It was all because of you, you were their common ground. You brought the two siblings together.

“You miss her,” Luke comments, breaking the everlasting silence as he glances over at his sister. She isn’t facing the sky anymore and is instead looking down at her legs. It’s been two weeks since you and Carrie fought, where Carrie kicked you out of Dirty Candy, and she hadn’t spoken to you since.

Carrie is quiet for a few moments, almost as if she is battling herself on whether or not she should answer Luke, but she does, quietly, “Of course I do, she’s my best friend.”

A silence fills the air yet again, and Luke doesn’t know whether or not to answer Carrie. The girl has never actually opened up to him before, so for her to tell him that she was missing you was something that was new territory for the both of them. He knew that she missed you, you would have to be insane not to and he was pretty sure this was the longest that Carrie had ever gone without talking to you, so it was like life had been shifted entirely.

“You miss her too,” It’s a simple statement that Carrie makes, but it makes Luke sigh. He does, of course he does. He can’t even write without you.

“She won’t pick up my calls,” Luke says, ducking his head down as he traces the patterns on the ground of the porch. At this rate, he’s probably called you like twenty times in the last week but he always gets sent to voicemail. He knows it’s intentional, but every time he picks up his phone and presses the dial button, there’s a part that hopes you’ll pick up; that you’ll come over and wrote songs with him.

“I won’t pick up hers either,” Carrie admits, biting her lip as she continues to watch the sky, “The dirty candy girls have been bashing her, for putting the band in second place. I just want to scream at them to stop.”

“You should, it isn’t y/n’s fault. She was on her way to the studio that day but I dragged her up to my room. She lost her best friend for just helping me out with a dumb song.”

Carrie knows that Luke feels guilt for all of this. All three of them are miserable without each other and they all know it. Yet, they’re all filled with too much pride to apologize, or even to pick up one another’s calls. They know that they can’t go on like this, because as it goes on they all just feel worse and worse, but no one seems willing to make the first move.

“She always goes out her way to help others, huh?” Carrie says, reminiscing on the number of people that you have helped in the time that you guys have been friends. She remembers the way you give the Dirty Candy girls your water and snacks when they forgot theirs, meaning that you would often to without, helping old people cross the street and just being generally helpful.

You were always so eager to help anyone and everyone, no matter who it was, and that was something that Carrie always admired about you, “Most helpful person I know.”

After Luke’s statement, they are enveloped in another silence, both watching the sky peacefully before a shooting star flies overhead. They don’t speak of it, simply enjoying one another’s company which isn’t something they often find themselves doing. Deep down, they both like each other’s company, and each other, but they never say anything, both too stubborn to do so.

After a few more minutes, Luke gets up, lightly patting his sister on the shoulder, “You should answer her calls, Car.”

Being a waitress was actually surprisingly fun for you. Normally, you enjoyed serving customers, interacting with people and it was a way to get some extra money. However, right now you wanted nothing less than to be out of here, despite having hours left of your shift; in fact, you had just started.

Normally, customers were respectful and nice, but this one...this one was testing your limits. What made it worse, was that it was none other than Kayla, Carrie’s replace best friend for you and she was shouting, trying to embarrass you in front of not only the customers but in front of your colleagues as well. She’s with a few other friends, but Carrie isn’t there.

Passing you a smirk, she wipes her hand across the table, purposefully making the cutlery drop, “Pick it up, waitress.”

The rest of her group snicker as you try to hold the embarrassed blush that rises to your face. Closing your eyes momentarily, you sigh, “Kayla, I know I haven’t been the best band member but-”

“I don’t think you get it, y/n,” Kayla cuts you off, standing up and walking right in front of you, “Carrie has already told you that you’re done. I hope you would at least have a bit of dignity and to accept that instead of coming begging to me after Carrie didn’t pick up your calls.”

After she says that, Carrie obnoxiously chews on her gum, the other girls snickering. Looking around at them, their eyes on you as they laughed let you clearly know that you were no longer friends with any of the Dirty Candy girls. They were only friends with you to get in with Carrie and it makes you feel dumb that you didn’t realize that beforehand.

“Pathetic,” Kayla spits, looking up and down at the sight of your ducked head.

“Hey, watch it would you Kayla? I think you forget that even though Carrie is annoyed at y/n right now, as soon as she gets over that y/n will be right where she belongs in Dirty Candy again and as Carrie’s best friend,” Julie speaks up from the booth beside them, eyes squinting at the girl, “I think you’re letting this all go to your head too much.”

“You have no idea what Carrie is like, Julie. Plus, even if you told her that I was being a bitch to y/n she won’t listen to you,” Kayla snorts, rolling her eyes at the other girl.

“She’ll listen to her brother though, and we all know that he’ll believe me over you,” Julie responds sassily, Alex and Reggie who were beside her sharing glances. Often, they didn’t like to get involved in drama, and Julie didn’t either but just hearing how these girls were treating you made them feel horrible.

“Whatever,” Kayla says, rolling her eyes again before standing up, “Let's go girls, there seems to be a loser convention going on in here right now.”

Kayla doesn’t seem to be embarrassed, but you know well enough that she is getting out of there before she shows it. The girls are quick to follow behind her, all brushing you off and acting better than you as they pass.

Yet, you don’t pay attention to them for long as you turn towards the girl, giving her a small smile, “Thanks, Julie.”

“No problem, y/n,” Julie smiles, turning her head towards you sweetly. Noticing Alex and Reggie looking at you, you give them a shy wave and a smile before your attention is turned back towards Julie, “Can you do me a favor?”

“Of course, what’s up?” You’re prepared to take Julie’s order, considering that is what you expected her to want you to do but what she says next surprises you.

“Don’t be too hard on Luke, he really didn’t mean to get in between you and Carrie. And we just wanted to say that even if you don’t get back in with Dirty Candy, our band will always be open for you.”

It’s much later in the night, the café empty apart from you, humming softly a tune from a song you can’t remember the name of. You’re dancing a little as you give the tables one last wipe down before making your way behind the counter again. It was your turn to lock up for the night, the other waitresses already away home but you actually liked it when it was like this.

You didn’t even have the lights on as you took of your small apron-like thing and hung it up. Reaching for the keys, you stop when you hear the bell ringing, signaling that someone had entered the shop. Could they not read the closed sign?

“Sorry, we’re closed right now-” You say, whirling around and meeting hazel eyes, voice cutting off when you saw who was standing there. Clearing your throat, you shift awkwardly between two feet, “Luke.”

“Hey y/n,” Luke says softly, his hair is messy under his navy colored beanie, but you know you can’t talk, yours probably looks a lot worse. He takes a step towards you before speaking again, his voice still soft, “We need to talk.”

Title from Yutaka Ozaki’s I Love You. If I were to pick a song that encapsulates my interpretation of Winnix, this song will be it.

Ozaki was a big cultural icon in 80s Japan - an extremely handsome, talented rock star that wrote and sang songs of rebellion against the rotten rigidities of the Japanese society. He was a singer that did not sing to his audience, but instead sang inwards - with almost unabashed honesty and conviction - towards the deepest part of his own troubled soul. Ozaki’s struggle to conform to an incredibly demanding system caused him tremendous pain, and he died at the tender age of 26 years old. His early death made him a legend amongst the youths of his time, and his words of honesty and earnestness remain everlasting.

I Love You is Ozaki’s biggest hit, covered by numerous singers around the world. It is a song about two young people in an illicit relationship, seeking places to embrace each other - in order to protect their love from being destroyed by the unforgiving world outside of their temporary shelter. Ozaki’s words were earnest and vulnerable, illustrating just how fragile this illicit relationship is, and yet the lovers still exchange vows to cherish this shared memory for a lifetime.

Call me pessimistic, but it’s hard for me to completely believe that both Lewis and Dick managed to attain some sort of a “happy ending” by conventional standards when you juxtapose it with the societal context and attitudes in the material decades of their time. Undeniably, it is sad, but maybe it is precisely the fleeting, ephemeral nature of their relationship that makes it even more beautiful, and worthy of a lifetime worth of effort to cherish.

So yep, here’s the Winnix fan art inspired by the lovely I Love You! Originally, I wanted to finish it by Valentine’s Day but lunar new year celebration prep was insane. As mentioned in my earlier WIP post, I tried going back to my old manga style for this fan art - it’s been really fun to create this. Hope you’ll like it 🥰

I feel the need to tell everyone about my headcannons regarding Coricopat and Tantomile, and how I do not believe that either of one truly exist, at least in a physical manifestation that a human would see as a normal cat. (This post inspired to written by @incorrectcats, @therum-tum-misto, and @magical-marvelous-mistoffelees, please let me know if you want me to remove tagging you).

The basis for this is that I see both of them as a spiritual representation of The Everlasting Cat outside of the Heaviside Layer. They are not actually two separate Cats, but rather a manifestation presented that way. The Jellicles see them as if they were any other Cats in the tribe separately, and are physically present in their eyes, however they appear slightly different to each Cat, as to not show that they have no end of life. To put this another way, the Coricopat and Tantomile seen by someone young like Victoria will be presented differently than to someone like Jellylorum, as to not show that they are in a way immortal beings. Their visualizations would age according to the respective age of the individual Cat, but neither of them would ever pass away before the individual Cat who sees them. A caveat to this is that some Cats would develop or otherwise obtain the realization that Coricopat and Tantomile are manifestations of The Everlasting Cat. Old Deuteronomy understands that they are The Everlasting Cat, due to his advanced age and the fact he is the Jellicle Leader, given the ability to make the Jellicle Choice. Jemima would develop the realization as she becomes older, as I see her as chosen to be partially entwined with The Heaviside Layer by The Everlasting Cat, but in her presented young age she would not have this information. Any Cats asking them questions would be given sage advice, and they are present to help guide any Cat through their respective life. Each response would be tailored to the respective Cat asking. Although they have the ability to see partially into the future, they cannot interfere with the direction of a Cats life, or fully interpret the visions they see.

They would appear to humans as a set of cat eyes reflecting momentarily back in the dark, or the quick blur of something that runs past; a form of something that seems like it is there, but there no proof or capture of the intrinsic reality of them actually being present. They manifest as a form of energy. When an owner sees their cat staring into the void, with seemingly nothing present, they are interacting with Coricopat and Tantomile, and by extension The Everlasting Cat. (In the typical production of Cats, they allow themselves to be seen by humans.)

Although they are manifestations of The Everlasting Cat, they are still cats after all, and are allowed to interact in less serious ways with the others. I see Coricopat as representing the social playfulness and wide-eyed wonder and curiousity found in all cats, while Tantomile represents the independent, serious, and judging side of cats. At points these representations are combined to show the strong emotional side of cats, such as confronting Grizabella, while at others times they share one braincell between them, such as dancing along with Tugger at the end of his song.

They are the spiritual protectors of all Cats and the bridge between the physical world and the Heaviside Layer. They are serious, stone faced Cats judging you in the background. They are the fun Cats, having the time of their infinite lives, without a care in the world at the forefront. They truly are not present in a physical plane of existence. They are The Everlasting Cat. They are Coricopat and Tantomile.

My life is truly music-inclined, even if I have two left feet and a raspy, rough voice. Those foreign lyrics ring out in my head, every time I enter through the gates of Japanese culture and enter my fantasy I know so well. I mean, cool right? I can still remember how I first embraced her beginning chords in January 2020, when that song, Gurenge, was heard throughout the spacious stadium of the New Era University college department. It was the opening ceremony for Intramurals 2020, and as soon as the melody played, the crowd sang along in a noisy type of harmony.

𝙂𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙚, it means “red lotus” in English—the title of the Japanese opening theme for the animation called, “Kimetsu no Yaiba,” or more acclaimed as “Demon Slayer” by millions of anime ethusiasts across the web. I wondered what that range of vocals wanted to tell me. Those beautiful notes and the intensifying instrumental that accompanies such an epic story. Slowly, I understood why she is adored by many people, rain or shine, sun rays to lunar silhouettes. Now, here I am writing with everlasting conviction, to share everything I know about her—the reasons why that captivating rhythm, those inspiring words, and the pleasant emotions, made me sing along. So, let’s rest for a while, and I’ll tell you more about LiSA, behind the reflection of that worn out blade.

LiSA, or Risa Oribe in real life, is a Japanese singer, songwriter, and lyricist from the Gifu Prefecture—in the small city of Seki. She is 165 centimeters tall, which is quite tall for a Japanese woman. She is known for her multiple song hits used in Japanese animation titles such as the Fate series and Sword Art Online. Though, did you know that she also sang for the music-based anime series, “Angel Beats!” as one of the main characters who so happened to be a vocalist, as well? This was LiSA’s professional song debut in the music industry, which she lunged into when she was given a chance to step onto the reknowned arena for some of Japan’s history makers: Nippon Budokan! As a kid, Risa Oribe was taught lessons in piano, dancing, and singing, which continued onto her junior high school years. After auditioning in the infamous Budokan, she held onto the dream of becoming an artist on the next journeys she would walk on outside her hometown.

Believe it or not, the name “LiSA” is an stylized acronym, consisting of confident letters that possess unique dignified meaning from one another. The stage name is adopted from a blast from the past, of the times Risa Oribe had travelled to Tokyo to form a band. “LiSA” stands for, “𝙇𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙎𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝘼𝙡𝙡” which may sound weird for English speakers, nonetheless, its significance still pulls my heartstrings all in all. Prior to becoming the individual singing artist, “LiSA,” Risa Oribe has always been a part of bands ever since high school—one of them being a cover band of indie rock music, “CHUCKY.” Despite the risk of working with the band in exchange for her accredited certificates from university, she continued to reach for her ultimate dream career as a singer. Unfortunately, “CHUCKY” only lasted for three years, and this is what led Risa Oribe to test her luck in the capital of Japan—persevering for that aspiration, because there’s no turning back now!

LiSA’s musical influences are, surprisingly, internationally respected musicians of the English language. Some of these prominent figures in her life are Avril Lavigne, Green Day, Paramore, and Rihanna. She is well-known for memorable hyped performances filled of power and passion. Sometimes, if people are granted the opportunity to be mesmerized by remarkable skill, she is also able to play the guitar and key harmonica in her concerts. She can sing in Japanese, obviously, but her words weaved with melody extends into Chinese and English perception, too. As a songwriter, she personally wrote some of her produced masterpieces like “Shirushi” and “Rally Go Round.” Though, perhaps you’ve never would guess that LiSA had a voice acting debut in 2015, too! Don’t get your hopes up because she did not give life to any anime characters, but instead, she became the Japanese voice of Madge Nelson in the film, “Minions.” I know, don’t get me wrong, it’s a shocking difference from the person LiSA is famous for.

However, for Risa Oribe, it was not something to be shy about, for she absolutely loves Minions! For avid fans of LiSA, they would often spot sightings of Minions merchandise in her social media accounts. It’s a fact that wouldn’t make you think that she can be that intimidating performer on fire, once she leaps onto stage. She still has that gentle vibe, especially when she raises her arm to greet the audience with a simple peace sign. The dark packed venue would chant along the bridge instrumental, rapidly waving their lightsticks until the song performance is finished. It’s as if the stars have landed in a small part of Earth during the night fall, to take a day-off head banging to the beat of rock. LiSA’s concerts deliver the message that “𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙎𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝘼𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨,” as it is the running title pinned to her lives from then to now.

Not sure if this is talking about the les mis post... BUT IT DOESNT MATTER CAUSE WE ARE DOING THIS.

The easiest cats to assign were Mungojerre and Rumpleteazer because Duh. Their criminal activity and also their immediate connection and synergy with each other. I really shouldn’t have to say it but THIS ISNT INCEST they are unrelated cats who secretly despise each other but also love each other. It also is fun because Jerre actually gets to be really evil for once which is amazing.

Next came the iconic love triangle of Marius, Cosette and Eponine. Now initially I had another trio in mind, that of Misto, Victoria, and Rumpleteazer filling the parts in the order listed above. This was a cool concept, but I didn’t like the idea of pairing mungo with anyone else and having Tugger being enjorlas worked... just not that great. Also I remembered another iconic ship of mine for Tugger and misto so we got Bomba deme and Munk as our iconic lovers.

Old deut and macavity and Grizabella were also easy to pick due to their built in character dynamic. Also I loved the idea of macavity having much more emotional meaning to his actions and Deut actually striving toward the everlasting cat for forgiveness. Also “I Dreamed a Dream” is such a Griz song and I loved the idea of Deme being her daughter so much. ;-;

And the most iconic matchups, Misto and Tugger as Grantier and Enjorlas. Misto finally getting to be this big inspiring leader and Tugger being his drunk secret lover. The lover dynamic between Grantier and Enjorlas is something I’ve loved for a while because they always bicker and mess with each other throughout the production and near the end when the barricade falls they both usually end up holding hands holding the French flag as they get executed. It’s beautiful and emotional and always makes me cry (if your interested I would gladly describe every single interaction I’ve seen them have in all the productions of les mis I have been in).

And finally Pouncival. Gavroche was hard to cast because there were a lot of options. I didn’t like using the psychic twins or any other kitten. I considered Plato for a second but then I figured out a much better place to put him and Victoria. Then I realized how perfect pouncival is. He’s a young giddy kit who follows everyone around. He would absolutley run into danger to prove himself and also his relationship ship to Tugger is very important. When gavroche dies in the musical it’s normally staged that Grantier sits down in the corner with gavroche’s body cuddled in his laps and it’s one of the only times in the show he doesn’t drink. Also that makes him Bombas little brother and mungo and rumples son which I thought would be fun. :3

221. Jessika ft. Jenifer Brening - “Who we are” San Marino 2018

Lol, San Marino. You know, I totally understand being a Stan Marino. Their entire appeal is built around how utterly worthless they are <3 However, most of their entries are stuck in the wasteland where they are too shit to be enjoyable songs, but also not extreme enough to merit my fickle standards for ironic enjoyment. Enter Jessika and Jenny B who have moments of potential brilliancy (”HEY IT’S ME JENNY B  💅", the robots <3); but for the most part don’t double-down ON their insanity. It needed more of the meta humour-

-and a lot less of the vaguely inspirational (but not rly) subliminal messages. Oh well, at least Jessika and Jenny B went to Eurovision together, which forged an everlasting sisterhood/friendsh- :checks notes: ... oh.

220. Cezar - “It’s my life” Romania 2013

God “It’s My Life” has become stale of the years. This is a difficult rank for me because I think Cezar is quite good and I find the act pretty entertaining.

However, there are three problems here: 

Firstly, the song is some messy dubstep opera combo that I never really cared about and find impossible to take seriously. (as such, It’s my life was never in my post-show top 15 for 2013) Secondly, the best aspect of the song, the key change INTO the dubstep opera (with matching growth dress) is one of those silly acts that are great at first glance but get stale over time once the novelty wears off.

But thirdly and most importantly, Elina and Kate happened. Both ladies are so fucking fantastic their combined efforts have utterly cancelled Cezar for me. “La Forza” and “Zero Gravity” are not only better songs, they also have more sustainable acts, and leave me scalped  and smitten whenever I choose to revisit them. Cezar otoh? Yeah, he’s alright, but not something I’d revisit spontaneously. Time to leave us, sweet nosferatu~

219. Svala - “Paper” Iceland 2017

I think the Svala appeal is obvious lol. Glam blonde doing a plateau-heeled tarddance <3 Unfortunately everything else lets me down somewhat. It took me until she beat Daði Freyr to realize that “Paper” is kind of a whatever song when translated to English. The Icelandic version is better and keeps its icy mystique going, while Svala somewhat chokes on English version’s mundaneness. However, I *do* believe Svala probably should have qualified, because she worked the shit out of “Paper”’s nonstaging, but I’m not losing sleep over the fact that she didn’t, so...

AND NOW FOR THE FINAL SONG IN THE MEHZONE. WHO IS GOING TO MISS OUT ON THE NEXT MUSICAL TIER????

2018 Lucia Pérez - “Que me quien lo bailao” Spain 2011

Bet you didn’t see that coming! Well the fact that you didn’t is the entire reason why “Que me quiten lo bailao” has to leave. I actually quite like the entry. It’s a little ray of sunshine inside it’s horrorscape of a year. 🤗

However, I have one large qualm about “Que me quiten lo bailao” and that is its memorability. It’s like “La noche is para mi” in that regard; Remember that one btw? Lol, why am I even asking this question, the answer is “no” and that’s precisely why I don’t like that one either. Both Lucia and Soraya provided a fun act, there’s lot of shit is going on (I totally forgot about the flares), I genuinely like what I see and hear... and then it finishes and I instantly (instantly!) forget about it. 

Somebody has to be the final boot before the Like Zone, might as well make it the acute case of musical prosopagnosia, am I right?

Day seven: Free Day: Chosen Prompt: Letters

Mystery is smart. Nobody would expect anything less from him. He was the one who came up with the idea. (He might have also taken a little inspiration from a book and a movie.)

When Vivi came to him about her crush on Lewis, he told her to write letters to him, expressing how she felt, even if she never sent them. She did. And when she realized she had a crush on Arthur? The same thing.

She wrote letters.

Well, Mystery was apparently a really good confidant. Lewis and Arthur did the same, coming to Mystery and each time, he told them to write letters to each other and to her. And he kept their secrets, never telling any of them about the others, feeling it wasn't his place.

After they all got together, he may have mentioned that he told them all to write letters to each other.

Vivi wanted to read Arthur and Lewis’ letters to her. She was more than willing to let them read hers, the majority of the letters telling them about things she was interested in like shows and why she loved them.

Arthur was more hesitant. In some of his letters, he had put things he was too nervous to say to them out loud. He had also written down small things they’d said to him that he wanted to remember.

Lewis wrote down little things that he noticed that they did sometimes. He wrote his internal fanboyish responses to conversations and how they could've gone differently.

In the end though, all of their curiosity got the better of them and they exchanged the letters.

Despite Vivi writing the letters the longest, it was Arthur who had the most. Some of them singularly addressed to one of the other two, some of them addressed to both.

It was a rainy Sunday night in December when they all finally had the chance to sit down and read the letters together. Arthur kept his folded up in locked box, Vivi's were kept in an old jewelry box she kept in her closet, and Lewis’ were kept in a shoe box that he kept under his bed.

They all curled up on the couch under a blanket and started reading.

Dear Lewis,

Oh wow, it's strange to be able to write all this down somewhere. I guess if this helps I’ll have to thank Mystery. So, I guess I say all the things I want to say to you in these letters? I write ‘these’ as if I’m going to write more than one. Um, so, first I guess I want to say that I think I love you? It's hard to tell with the fact I’ve never loved anyone before and the fact that up until I realized I never thought I would like guys? Like, it's not a new concept to me by any means, I just never thought I would? I don't think I ever considered my romantic orientation actually. Huh.

So because you'll probably never read this I can spout whatever nonsense I want about whatever. So uh.. Yeah I guess the moment I realized I like you was probably yesterday when I caught you singing along to Helpless yesterday and you didn't realize I was watching until the song was almost over. You kind of just looked ethereal and I thought ‘I wanna kiss him’ and that was kinda what started this? I dunno.

I was kinda in shock and was really flustered actually and the way you got all embarrassed about it helped me realize that it wasn't just a passing thought and I actually really really wanna kiss you and love you and wow this is rambly. Like that was so cute oh my gosh. Anyway, I’ll have to remember that Hamilton is your favorite musical, maybe surprise you with one of the songs on your birthday. Also I’ll have to listen to it. The only reason I know the name of that song was because I googled the lyrics. Anyway, that's really all I can think of at the moment. I think I will continue writing these letters, they do help.

Dear Vivi and Arthur,

So I’ve known I love you both for a while now and I just talked to Mystery about it and he suggested this and it's a great idea, I don't know how I haven't thought of it before, what with me watching all those romance movies and shows but I’m writing now. Anyway, where should I start?

The beginning might be a good place. So I first realized I liked Vivi when you dragged us to that festival you wanted to go to. I knew it was probably a really bad idea since it was colder than usual and it was nearing cold and flu season and you said that you had been feeling more tired and less hungry than usual, which is normally a sign of being sick but you were so determined anyway. And then when you brought me that little flower crown I kinda just figured that you were who I wanted to spend my life with? I don't know if that's a good way to explain it but that's kinda what happened.

I realized I liked Arthur when we all drove down to that clearing in the woods together. You fell out if the van but ended up slipping into one of those ‘draw me like one of your French girls’ poses on accident and it was just so funny and you tried to play it off like you meant to do that and the level of sarcasm was the best and I knew I wanted you around for the rest of our lives, just like I did with Vivi.

So recently I noticed that we make up the pan flag with me being pink, Arthur yellow, and Vivi blue. It probably doesn't relate but this is my letter and you might not even ever read it so I’ll talk about the pan flag if I want to.

I’d love to talk on and on about the little things I notice about both of you but that’ll be in another letter since it's nearly eleven and I'm tired. Goodnight :)

Heyyyy so letters proclaiming everlasting love are more Lew’s thing so I have absolutely no idea how to do this. But yeah I just realized I love you (And Lewis too but this is your letter) a few hours ago when you did that whole party for my birthday and it was really fun. Actually now that I think about it the signs were all there I just never picked up on them. Huh, looks like none of us actually know what we're doing do we?

No we don't. But I can assure you it's totally, one hundred percent working! I mean, none of us are dead yet and that has to count for something. Anyway, I'm determined to tell you guys on a special occasion like Valentines Day or Christmas or some holiday or something because dramatics are fun. I freaking swear if either of you feel the same way and tell me or each other first… I need my moment people.

So there’s this new show I like that I think you’d be really interested in, if you haven't already watched it. It's Voltron: Legendary Defender and it's this kinda sci-fi thing but there's also magic which Lew would be into and overall I think that it would be fun to watch it all together. Make a night out of it whenever a new season is released, sit up with popcorn and snacks watching it.

There's also this band I’ve started liking recently. I can't remember their name for the life of me though. I’ll have to look it up later.

Oh maybe I’ll tell you through songs. Oh now I have ideas. I’m gonna go write them all before I forget.

Arthur, I love you but you have no idea how to make cinnamon rolls. I think you used up all of my sugar yesterday in your attempts. I swear that is the very first thing I'm teaching you to do if you ever let me teach you how to bake.

Holy heck Lewis how do you get your hair so fluffy and soft? Like I was really tempted to play with it and braid it during the movie but I didn't know whether or not you’d be okay with that?

I didn't think you remembered that road to the little cove I brought you to. But apparently you did and put up little fairy lights all over. I’m not sure how you managed to power those but I’m impressed.

I’m starting to think that you might know about my crush and have taken it upon yourself to let me know you know in the absolute slowest and most romantic way possible. Like last night when you asked me to dance with you.

So last night at the campfire when you two caught me staring? Yes I was very much so staring because you're both pretty.

Soon all three of them had read each and every letter that had been addressed to them.

“That was nice,” Vivi grinned.

“It was. I’m glad I kept those letters,” Arthur agreed.

Lewis hummed. “I would've still found a way to convey all of that out loud given time.”

“Yeah but this way we get to see your immediate reaction. It's nice,” Arthur said.

“Also I would like to say something for the record,” Vivi started.

The other two hummed and allowed her to continue. “Yes, everything I do has to be blue.”

Arthur laughed at her response to the passing comment.

“So you listened to the entire Hamilton soundtrack because you knew I liked it?” Lewis asked.

“Yeah, pretty much. You’re always doing nice things for me, so,” Arthur trailed off.

They discussed their letters a while longer until Vivi eventually fell asleep during a lull in the conversation.

Despite still being on the couch, they all happily fell asleep right there. In the morning, they woke up to the soft music that had been playing turned off and an extra blanket thrown over them.

Mystery is a very good not-dog.

So! Last post of the week wow. I'm kinda sad, writing all these and drawing them was fun. Speaking of drawing, I did some sketches for this story! So to address a few things in this story. Yes, Mystery got the idea from "To All The Boys I've Loved Before". I got the idea from myself, when I was crushing hard on my now-girlfriend, I wrote a few letters to her. Some of the things written in here were inspired by the things I would've wanted to say to her. Also, I had Vivi say 'a new show' in reference to Voltron even though it literally ended today is because these letters are supposed to be old, the majority of my stories take place after the cave so the first letters were written before the incident and they're reading them after.

I also had different fonts for their handwriting. (This was originally written on google docs) Vivi's was indie flower, Arthur's was caveat, and Lewis' was corsiva. I wanted Vivi's writing to be a bit messier because her hands are trying to keep up with her brain which is going 100 mph, but google docs didn't have anything that fit that really, so I settled.
