I am newish to the Clexa fandom (<3yrs) and am totally confused be the tags on these sapphic polls saying Lexa is brown face?? Like, she's an aussie with a tan. How is that brown face? Where did this start, and who is perpetuating it??

Ugh I cannot believe we're still dealing with this in the year of our hell 2023. I'm not upset with the question or you, I'm just so fucking tired of this being rehashed constantly because some people lack the ability to learn and thus create situations where these things keep having to be explained when they've already been thoroughly dissected and debunked.

Long story short, it was started because some people are chronically online and live their lives one buzzword at a time. I'm convinced these are the same people who can't use the word gaslighting correctly to save their life and talking is "trauma dumping" and everything they don't like is "toxic". Just people who love talking about things they only have a tenuous grasp of because they think it makes them sound intelligent or like they're really fighting the good fight. And what really really pisses me off about the whole brownface/bindi (it was a Helm of Awe, not a bindi) discourse is that it's such a nothing thing when faced with all the actual real, harmful racism and xenophobic tropes that were in the loo. Racism and xenophobia that Clexas have been calling out since day one (the same xenophobia in particular a lot of these same people conveniently ignore or excuse to prop up their fave sweaty boy character but that's another convo entirely). The loo was rife with it, but ffs Lexa wasn't one of them.

Fact is Lexa was white. She was always portrayed as a white woman with a tan BECAUSE SHE CAME FROM A CLAN THAT SPENT THE MAJORITY OF THEIR TIME OUTSIDE. She's been confirmed as nothing but white by the showrunner, the writers, and fellow POC cast members who where immensely confused af when these very tiring people tried pulling them into their shit talking campaign. Case in point because it's the most blatant, Adina Porter. OG tweet was deleted, but it was @ing her asking if Lexa was white or a WOC. To which she answered

Because,,, it's pretty fucking obvious Lexa was white. At no point in her entire story arc was it ever represented or insinuated that Lexa was anything other than a white woman with a tan. She's Lexa kom TRIKRU. The clan of the trees. Meaning she's outside, training and working and traveling in the sun a fucking lot.

Because the differences are real and they're important. Brownface is a real, harmful problem in media and ffs even some actual people irl using it to gain appeal and popularity. It's something that should be called out and addressed at every turn. Which is why it's fucking harmful to just toss the word around for any white character who isn't visually eggshell pasty white and instead just fucking tan

Nico and Percy's dynamic through the series is eternally funny to me, because it's just. like.

Percy's having a constant mental struggle between his fatal flaw of loyalty with a promise he made to Bianca to protect Nico, versus his Big 3 kid desire to maim other Big 3 kids / Poseidon descendant urge to totally maim Nico specifically. He hates Nico so so much. He thinks Nico's annoying and weird at best, and creepy/sketchy when he's older. The only positive thoughts Percy has towards Nico are "He's Bianca's brother and Bianca was my friend and I owe her/He's Hazel's brother and Hazel is my friend and would kill me if I was mean to him," "He's a powerful asset and useful ally (if questionable)," and "He's kinda pathetic and I feel maybe a little bad about it." Percy has multiple occasions throughout the series where he strongly considers - and on one occasionally actually goes through with - throttling Nico.

Meanwhile, Nico is following around Percy like a lost puppy. He explicitly can never bring himself to even dislike anything about Percy no matter how hard he tries. He has a whole bit in BoO where he's mentally going "UGH he's so stupid BUT IT'S ENDEARING HOW DARE HE." He's totally smitten. He's making deals with his dad for Percy. He's making convoluted plans to help Percy stand a chance against Kronos. During the entirety of BoTL it's like he's playing tsundere - "I'm helping NOT PERCY SPECIFICALLY with this quest! Me helping Percy would be SILLY because I DEFINITELY HATE HIM." Then he proceeds to show up to Percy's birthday party to basically ask him on a weird date and spend the entire next book scrambling around trying to help him or protect him or impress him. And Percy could not give less of a shit.

Just. That dynamic is so funny to me. Percy is the founder of the Nico Protection Club in that he's the one they're all protecting Nico from and meanwhile Nico is throwing himself at Percy to the point where the literal god of gay love calls him out on it.

They watched it. Kokomi were very invested. She star rambling at how nice the actor & actress performed and interesting plot. "THE TENSION! THE LONGING!!!" she screamed to the air.

Kusuo just nods. He admits the quality production was great. But that's it. He's tired and he will be sleeping. He then pin her goodbye and teleported.

She invite him again next week. And the week after, she got businesses to attend so no dates for today. The morning they got into class, she said she was very tired. "I wonder if haein found out about the divorce"

Kusuo, quietly: "he didn't"

no actually I’d like to hear your thoughts on the isat ending

Like i said it felt really tropey and by that i meant that it’s just Everything Good Happens forever and…..that’s it ? like idk we were building up to this huge catharsis sort of thing and then we got to it and it was so sudden and not a good payoff and just kind of nothingburger of an ending . the fact that everyone just forgives siffrin bothers me, or at least the fact that they don’t confront them about the shit they’ve said and done. call me a mental illness villainizer but i think if you’re a fucking asshole and doing the most insensitive things to the people you care about then hey, i think those ppl have a right to fucking tell you off for it. likeeee idk being at your lowest point …… not an excuse …. not feeling it chief ……. like sure the message is to move past your mistakes or whatever but ? that doesn’t mean just getting away with it ??? and i just really don’t understand Why everyone forgives him. honestly at the end of the day the ending is just one problem, the root of which are the characters. everyone feels like trope cardboard cutouts. oh, this is the smart one. this is the smol bean. this is the himbo. and they all care for each other btw. Did u hear that? they all care for each other. we’re not really going to explain to you why these people are so close or what they went through together but just trust me man they’re sooo found famy. like …. okay. i’ve played 30 hours of this game and not once did i buy that any of the characters really cared about each other. like??? why???? Personally I think he’s Demi something (more attracted to personality than looks or gender)

Honestly because we don't know that much about the guy it's kind of hard for me to form an opinion, and if Crocodad Real then we're going to find out his orientation eventually (since we gotta find out if that was a contributing factor to the Dragodile Divorce (assuming they're divorced)) so I'm kind of okay with not forming any headcanons, since the headcanon could get thrown out the window

If anything, what interests me is how Dragon's orientation could impact the story-- like when I've discussed the Dragodile Divorce I have mainly focused on speculating how Crocodile would've felt about it, but how Dragon felt about that is interesting too

Because if he's straight then yeah that probably contributed to The Divorce, but how did Dragon feel about it? Learning that the love of his life is now happier than ever before after transitioning and being happy for him, while also losing the version of Crocodile that he fallen in love to begin with? No longer feeling thet draw to him because of the thing that has brought him so much joy and comfort? Knowing that even if they did take down the WG the family Dragon had hoped to have would never come to be, because their relationship would now end? And that it would be on some level his fault, because he's not attracted to Crocodile anymore?

Like even if Dragon took things well and the divorce happened "on good terms", it would've been sad for Dragon too.

But then there's a slightly juicier option, because what if Dragon was bi, but the Divorce happened under unpleasant circumstances (be it Dragon lashing out or things getting violent because he couldn't recognize Crocodile) and he didn't figure it out until it was too late?

Because you'd still have Dragon going through some if not all of those previously mentioned feelings, of having to come to terms with the version of his significant other whom he had fallen in love with no longer existed, the family had pictured in his mind would never become a thing, that those things were be kind of his fault and that he had hurt Crocodile deeply in the process. But then he'd be looking at some news article of Crocodile's most recent heroic stunt, seeing his handsome face with that usual, unbothered expression, and realizing he still loved him? That he still wanted to be with him, wished they were together, even now that Crocodile was a far more handsome man than he was? And then the realization that he's bi hitting him like a fucking truck But it's too late. The divorce already happened. He already hurt Crocodile too deeply. Knowing Croc, he had probably already moved on. There was no fixing it, the relationship was over. At least for now, trying to go see Croc could be dangerous due to the WG and not wanting to risk the WG finding out about them and The Kid and Croc would probably be furious if Dragon even risked that at this point, after what he had done. Oh, and then Crocodile killed thousands of innocent people attempting to usurp a country by manufacturing a civil war. Something Dragon can't forgive. (Not to mention, hearing he had been taken down by their own son... Oof)

But what if despite all that, and not knowing the full circumstances behind what had happened (like the fact that Crocodile didn't know who the hell Luffy was), Dragon still loved Crocodile? What then?
