TOS and their Love Language.

Alex: He's a decent mix of Words of Affirmations and Physical Touch. Alex is easily the most openly affectionate person in the group; he never holds back from telling his friend show cool and great they are, while also lovingly invading their personal bubble. Though, those aren't limited to just loved ones – his slow uptake of social cues cause him to be viewed as rather intrusive by others, not used to his cheerful nature. A lot of his open affection had been inspired by his mother, who herself had been a very affectionate person with her husband and children. In a way, it makes him feel close to her, but at the same time, reminds him of how much he misses her. Due to that, he can be rather clingy, always hanging off of another person, and could be a nightmare for any touch-averse person. Somehow, this language of his is both very heartwarming, yet kind of sad, as if he tries to make sure that people stay, that they won't leave and forget about him.

Of all love languages, he's most receptive to Physical Touch. Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease hug him, hold his hand, ruffle his hair, squeeze the life out of him like a teddy bear. He loves it. He loves doing it to others. Literally anything, even if it's small, is enough to placate him, like hooking pinkies whenever he stands close, or letting him grab the edge of your sleeve/shirt. He'll appreciate anything you're willing to give him, it reassures him that you remember his presence. Out of everyone, Shay is the one who indulges him the most, letting him rest his head on hers, or being the first to hug him whenever he runs up to her with news/complaints to share. Everyone hold his damn hand, no, I'm not asking.

Max: Acts of Service, it's something that comes very natural to him, when it comes to the people he loves the most. He isn't good with words, and expressing himself truthfully without feeling super vulnerable is even harder for him. So, he's always done the next best thing; caring for and nurturing his loved ones. It's also why it's so easy for his close ones to see that whatever he says verbally, he doesn't mean it when physically he's doing the exact opposite. He'll bitch and moan about chores, but does as much as he can, so his sister doesn't have to worry about anything. In the same vein, he'll act grumpy with his friends, but they never doubt his reliability; he drove one of Shay's foster-siblings to the local GP for a rolled ankle; he waded into a pond to retrieve Alex's book, that had been tossed in by some bullies. Fake IDGAFer.

In return, he's very receptive to Physical Touch. As a child, as much as he hates it now, he used to preen whenever his father would rest a hand on his shoulder – Jacques wasn't a physically affectionate person (or affectionate, ever), and at that point his siblings have been rather estranged. And with his mother gone at a very tender age, it's safe to say Max is quite touch-starved, but acts hissy about it. Again, with his preconceived notion about Not Showing Vulnerability Ever, he never asks for even a morsel of physical affection and just lets himself stew in his own yearning. Fortunately, with their new life and healing, his siblings are now very close and his friends are also rather touchy by nature, so now Max is working overtime when it comes to acting grouchy at being constantly hugged. Secretly, though, he's very happy.

Shay: Physical Touch, hands down. It's why her and Alex get along so much. But unlike Alex's inherent clinginess, hers is all about transferring warmth and comfort to another person. To her, love and care doesn't always have to be announced to be proven; her words are all in her palm, when she takes Alex's hand to squeeze it reassuringly; in the way she tilts her head to rest it against a brooding Max's shoulder; in the gentle bump of her fist against Nyon's own to congratulate him. In a way, like Alex, touch reassures her that the people she loves most are still with her, safe and sound. She prides herself in her strength and in the way she can handle things with her own two hands, so it's only natural for her to value physical touch so much.

On the flipside, she's receptive to any affection; she believes everyone's individual expression of love and care makes it unique on its own. However, she does seem to harbor a special sort of affection for Acts of Service, as she appreciates the thought of someone independently putting their time and effort into something for someone else, regardless if it was asked for or not. As the eldest in the orphanage, she's very used to being a caretaker; she likes helping out, and also thinks of it as making an example in kindness and consideration. And while she doesn't exactly need anyone to take care of her, she likes the notion that someone takes care of things alongside her. Someone please spoil and pamper her.

BONUS:

Nyon: Quality Time. Nyon's a big loner – by nature or by choice – and his disconnect with humans as a whole have made him quite isolated, not to mention uncomfortable with almost every social situation. So, him willingly stepping out of his own bubble to be deliberately close with someone is a big indicator that the person is important to him. He yearns for a connection with another person/people, but he's also very aware how socially clumsy and awkward he is, so the next best thing for him is to just, spend time together. He'll tag along on small errands, help prep for a bake sale, hell, he'd even just sit there in the garage with someone just to pass the tools. By being present, he hopes he'll one day become someone who is seen as reliable. That said, he actually really likes being able to tag along to mundane things and watching the people he likes just...exist.

To no-one's surprise, Nyon is very receptive to Words of Affirmations. Initially, he always hated the fact he kind of relied on outside sources to validate his feelings, as he felt no confidence in near anything about himself. It took him a while to actually realize, that some affirmations were genuine – Alex being the main culprit of most of them, since he's a painfully sincere guy. And as he began to gather more self-confidence, he found that the words...never changed. They're still the "You did great!" and "That was really cool.", like they always were, like they always meant that. And that felt good. They feel good now, a warm affection that both assuring and encouraging.

||. thor misunderstanding earthen housing norms in the modern day is SO funny to me to think about. He's doing his best, but between being from another planet with far more advanced technology (and much more "archaic" culture customs) on top of also being a PRINCE, I would imagine some normal practices and understandings of things simply don't click with him more than others.... Not because he's not smart. Thor is incredibly intelligent. ONLY because of the huge culture divide. But... that said: the concept of having neighbors who own their own land right next to yours, but the plots of land are TINY ??? absolutely crazy to him. Why aren't the plots of land BIGGER? why don't more people utilize it to farm crops???

Also don't get him STARTED on the idea - or nature of - apartments.

he of course did suuuuuper well with everyone who asked to meet him! young kids, parents, some all at the same time. not fazed even a little (and someone even guessed that his name is deputy dewey because of scream — finally!!!!!!)
