In retrospect we really messed up by not going with a term like "deep automation" or something to refer to the current crop of self-refining software tools. People hear "artificial intelligence" or even "machine learning" and, unless they're already familiar with the technology, assume you're talking about something that's somehow "conscious" or "aware."

No, the computers are still blind and dumb as bricks in the metaphysical sense, and are set to remain that way for the foreseeable future. They're just getting really good at picking out (and, in the cases of things like chatbots, imitating) patterns in large and complex datasets, which is a potentially useful tool properly applied.

I know some s2 spoiler stuff ive seen seemed to give a very very very vague idea of fire and potentially the ship being hurt (I know she's not like. a person to be hurt she's a ship but also. someone help her ☹️)
