A Phoenix's Blessing au (3)

It's been a more than a few days now and KK still wasn't back yet...

Akito tried not to worry, but when he went into town the other day for some groceries, he heard from some passing traders that trouble was starting to stir again in the nearby kingdom. That there was calls for war again...

Hearing the news that war might be once again coming, the whole town was abuzz with terrified energy.

People were either getting ready by stocking up on suppies, getting weapons ready, or just flat out leaving town all together!

But all Akito could think about was KK. How the man promised he'd be back, and yet he wasn't back yet. Did the older man run into trouble?

And the gossip about the war around town didn't help his worries whatsoever. In fact it made Akito feel worse.

"I heard that many towns have already been struck and was burned down to the ground!"

"Oh, I heard they're rounding up men of all ages and forcing them to fight as soldiers!"

Akito shudders as he passed those gossiping and rushes home. He didn't want to think about it. He didn't want to think about KK being burned to ash or being forced to fight as unwilling soldier...

"KK's fine." Akito mutters as he puts all his groceries away. "He's-He's probably just having trouble getting my medicine!" He tries to tell himself this, tries to quell his worries, but then he thought of something.

Was it possible that maybe... KK wasn't coming back? That he left Akito on purpose. That he got tired of taking care of Akito, and slipped away with a simple lie of 'getting medicine'?

No, no, no! That's-That's not true! It couldn't be true! It couldn't...

More than a little stressed out, Akito walks outside and curls up on his porch swing, hoping that the cool night air would help him calm down.

After a moment of swinging back and forth, Akito whistles. When nothing happens or responds, he does it again and again, but still nothing occurs.

"Guess he isn't around today either..." Akito grumbles as he snuggled into his blanket.

Akito's bird friend, the same one he saved and was pretty sure not just some normal bird, had started coming around after KK left.

It would stop by early in the morning, usually after Akito got up and was making breakfest, and peck at the door till Akito opens it, letting the massive bird in.

It never made a mess so Akito didn't mind it being inside. It usually just waddles over to the small nest Akito created for it and settles down to watch the human.

Sometimes it would come baring gifts like small, colorful rocks. Some of which Akito was pretty sure were gemstones. Or pretty feathers that Akito started collecting.

But then it stopped showing up two days ago, making Akito worry that it finally got caught by a hunter...

Suddenly, a shrill cry was heard comes from somewhere in the forest. A few seconds later, something heavy and on fire crash lands in front of Akito cabin!

"What the hell?!" Akito jumps up from his porch swing and hops off his porch, darting over to the mysterious, on fire object.

He was only a few feet away when the firey thing begins moving. What appeared to be firey wings extends from the firey thing and a very familar cry was heard.

That sound-! That sounded like Akito's bird! This firey thing was Akito's bird?!

The firey wings flap violently, throwing off firey embers in all directions before the intense flames finally started dying out, leaving behind scorched ground and what looked like a human shaped body!

When the fire was completely gone, the figure moves and groans, sounding very much in pain.

Despite every instinct telling Akito to run back in his cabin and lock all his doors, he moves toward the figure cautiously.

Who, or whatever this thing was, it was hurt! And just Akito couldn't leave there! He had to help it!

Since it was so dark, it was hard to make out the figure's face, but when Akito crouched down beside it, he's shocked to hear this mysterious being speak his name, and in a very familar voice at that!

"...Akito?"

"K-KK?!"

A hand weakly reaches out to Akito and the younger man grabs it, holding it tightly as he stares at KK in disbelief.

"You- KK, how-?!" Akito could barely get any words out!

KK squeezes his hand as he tried pushing himself up into a sitting position. "Aki... This-This is real, right? I'm home?" KK sounded daze, confused.

"Y-Yes! You're home! This-This is real..." Akito carefully helped KK up off the ground and into his cabin where he got a good look at KK's state.

Dried blood was smeared across the older man's face and his clothes weren't much better! Blood covered and torned in random places, making it seemed like he was stabbed or slashed with a knife or sword!

"Akito... 'm so'ry..." KK slurred as Akito carried him over to their bed. "Didn't mean... to lie..." Akito just hushes him as he help the older man lay down. They... They could talk about this later.

For a moment Akito considers running to town and getting the local doctor, but KK grabs his hand and begs him not to go.

"'m fine! 'ust 'ive me a sec..." KK shakily reaches for his shirt and tugs it up. The wounds scatter across KK's skin suddenly light up in small fires, and to Akito's shock, the wounds slowly start to vanish!

After a few minutes, all of KK's wounds were gone and the older man slumps against the bed, clearly out of breath and very exhausted.

"...'m so'ry." KK mumbles again weakly as he got his breathing under control.

"It's... It's fine... Let's just get you out these bloody clothes, okay KK?"

After helping KK into some clean clothes, Akito settles down under the covers beside the now sleeping man (What was KK really?), and watches KK as he slept.

Whatever KK went through before landing as a freaking fireball in Akito's yard must have done something to the older man's body as fire now danced across the older man's skin harmlessly.

Curiously, when Akito decided to touch one small flame, he was surprised at how it didn't burn him. It just felt very warm.

Also, there was now glowng, pulsating golden lines along KK's arms and hands.

The glowing patterns almost remind him of his bird friend...

Wait. Didn't he hear his bird friend when KK crashed into his yard? And the firey wings? Those came from KK as well...

UGH! So many questions and so little answers!

...He'll just ask KK in the morning.

So with a tired sigh, Akito snuggles closer to KK, who in his sleep, throws an warm arm around Akito and tugs him closer, curling his body around the younger man's protecitvely.

Warm... Akito felt so much warmer in KK's arms than usual...

It was kinda nice...
