Suddenly bowled over by the image of Anakin with a baby Ahsoka strapped to his front during the middle of work. Ok I guess??
Ahsoka getting cursed into a toddler during the Clone Wars and Anakin is now suddenly responsible for a literal baby. He is now acutely aware of the fact that the 501st are in an active engagement and his protective instincts are dialed right up to max. They have to be pulled back from the front, a young padawan was pushing it as it was but this is a Babby.
He's having to think about what baby togruta eat. Ahsoka can't feed herself or defend herself or anything except wiggle around like a striped potato. Her montrols are non existant, just little nubs, and its almost bringing this Jedi Knight to tears with how cute she is. He knows she's a carnivore but surely they don't eat meat that early?? Do they need anything else to develop correctly?? Is he going to accidentally harm her somehow through neglect?!
Anakin: Master Ti, what do baby togruta eat??
Shaak: Pardon?
Anakin: Help.
She gets the explanation from Anakin in pieces and a better explanation from Kix. She can tell him how to look after her until they can reach Coruscant, milk if they have any on board will do fine in the interim and Ahsoka will like being bundled up. The pressure of being cocooned is soothing (thinking of Momma Tano strapping babby Ahsoka to her front but now it's Anakin making sure she goes with him everywhere) and will prevent her from becoming too agitated.
She keeps chewing on his leather glove when he holds her but he doesn't mind, and just lets her gnaw on his knuckles like a chew toy. Its not his flesh hand anyway so it's fine. He can’t effectively secure her to him on his own so he has to get Rex to help him do it properly with Shaak still on speeddial for instructions.
She can’t help but notice how oddly domestic the scene looks as Rex carefully wraps Ahsoka in her papoose cocoon to Anakin's chest. They're both cooing at her. Shaak cannot wait for a Council meeting to be called about this.
The clones are caught between being distraught at what's happened to their Commander, as well as thinking she's the cutest thing they've ever seen. Since Anakin is now focusing harder on keeping Ahsoka safe since she can't protect herself anymore, Rex has taken it upon himself to stick at their side even more than usual. Just a very protective satellite orbiting around both Jedi in case they need anything.
No, the other men are not jealous that Anakin automatically hands Ahsoka off to his Captain if he needs to be free if her for a minute or two.
Back on Coruscant he knows she's better off being handled by the creche but ... that's his Padawan, just small. Everyone on the Council had hoped he'd deal with a Padawan just fine but were admittedly a little surprised by just how well he took to it. Seeing him immediately throw himself into taking care of baby Ahsoka, and all her species specific needs, has a lot of them second guessing their assumptions of him.
It's Obi-Wan who eventually asks where his almost instinctual knowledge comes from. The answer is that Shmi Skywalker was the go to mum for any new mothers on Tatooine and there were quite a few in the slave quarters during Anakin’s time there. He learned by just being there to help out.
Obi-Wan: if you want to continue to care for Ahsoka, you could do so by just working in the Creche and helping there with the rest of the infants
Anakin: !!

WIP *mumble*day!
I was tagged by @joelalorian even though it’s Friday!!! 🤣 My kind of tag, tbh.
These things are what is currently haunting my Mando drafts, and I have no idea when they will come so we’ll just say - soon. These are still rough edits.
This is a snippet from my series coming up Our Song is Not Yet Written. (Below the cut in case people don’t want spoilers. There will also be a snippet from the upcoming chapter of Close to Home, the sequel of Back To You.)
The council chamber was filled with sun as the doors slid open to let you in. The glare off of the marble floors made you want to squint, but you kept your head high, eyes wide as you walked in under the scrutinous gazes of the Masters. Once you were facing Master Yoda, you blinked rapidly a few times to give your eyes a break, the side of your mouth twitching up ever so slightly at the Master’s amused hum and twitch of his ear.
“Beautiful day, is it not?” His voice was warm, head tilting to the side slightly in amusement as he blinked up at you in a slow, almost exaggerated movement that bordered on teasing.
Letting the smile take full control of your features, you nodded. “Yes, Master. It truly is.”
“Hmmm….” He hummed in agreement with a nod of his own, before turning to look out the nearest window. “Thought it was a little bright, I did.” His eyes cut to the side, twinkling with mischief as he watched you carefully.
You cleared your throat, weight shifting slightly to your left before finding your center once again. “I much prefer the sun to rainy days.”
“You don’t find the rain…. calming?” Master Windu’s voice startled you with its cryptic tone.
“On most any other planet, yes,” you looked between the two Jedi, landing on the one who asked the question. “But here, it just makes me think of all the grime.”
“Very sterile, Coruscant can be.”
You bobbed your head at the ancient green knight. “Yes. That’s the word for it. Sterile.”
“Enough talk of weather. We need to get down to business.” Ki-Adi-Mundi said from behind you, making you glance over your shoulder with a nod.
“Yes, Master. Sorry.”
“Sorry, be not. Humoring an old Jedi, you were.” Yoda chuckled in amusement at his own words, earning one more small grin from you. “Besides. Missing, still one member of this party is.”
The doors to the chamber flew open, revealing a flustered looking Anakin. He muttered apologies as he took his seat, allowed to observe the council but not be a member. He studiously avoided Obi-Wan’s glare from across the room, their friendship still very much one of Master and Padawan, no matter the titles they bore now.
“What are we waiting for?” Shaak Ti asked quietly, the holo projecting her all the way from Kamino wavering every few seconds with an unstable connection.
Yoda grinned. “Her partner.”
Plo Koon laughed quietly, all eyes pulling to him. “Master Yoda, she needs no partner. She just passed her trials, and is more than capable of handling this on her own.”
“Arisen, new technicalities have. This mission will require two. A Jedi and a-” The doors slid open to reveal, standing there in all its glory, a walking suit of armor reflecting the sun and this time it actually made you squint- “Mandalorian.”
Close To Home:
Bee bleeped from beside him and sped up, going several paces ahead.
“What’d she say?” Din asked, barely turning his head to look over his shoulder at you.
“She says you’re stubborn.”
He huffed, turning back forward. “She did not.”
“Says the man who stubbornly won’t learn binary so he can stop asking what the droid he lives with is saying.”
Something grumbled under his breath was all Din had to offer, forging ahead with renewed interest. He turned left around a corner and paused, pressing a few buttons on his vambrace.
Several yards ahead, forgoing the turn, Bee stopped and blooped in question.
“I don’t know, Bee,” you answered. “But this is Din. As long as he’s silent, it’s usually all okay. Talking too much? Now there’s where something’s fishy.”
Din’s sigh could have moved mountains, even through his visor. “It’s this way,” he said simply, continuing down the left offshoot.
Bee squawked in disagreement.
“Your readout is for the service hatch, but there are markings leading away from there,” Din answered hurriedly, dismissively. “Mandalorian markings.”
“So you do understand her?” It was more statement than question as you followed behind the beskar wall.
“I can understand tone.” Din’s incredulous tone told you he was already done with the entire topic of binary today.
“You hear that, Bee? You just need more inflection and he will understand every word.”
The astromech rolled up beside you, tweeting and tittering away animatedly, throwing in an over exaggerated whistle for good measure.
Din huffed yet again, mumbling under his breath, “Don’t need to know binary to understand that.” He glanced over his shoulder at you briefly before continuing forward. “She gets it from you, you know.“
“Gets what from me?”
Shaking his head, the Mandalorian chuckled softly. “Never mind.”

The Bond Between Us ~ 85
THE BOND BETWEEN US MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
< previous chapter
Word Count: 1,525ish
Summary: Luke struggles with Rey.
Notes: I can't believe that there are only 4 more chapters after this. Are you ready?
Tumblr media
Luke was resistant to Rey when she first found him on one of the islands of Ahch-To. He had turned cold to the ways of the Jedi and the Force, now believing that he understood what you were talking about when you refused to help him restore the Order.
After finding out about Han’s death, he reunited with R2 in the Falcon. Luke was upset at himself for shutting himself off from the Force so much that he hadn’t sensed Han’s death. R2 showed Luke the old footage of Leia asking for Obi-Wan’s help, he decided to teach her three lessons.
The first lesson allowed Luke to see that Rey had a level of power identical to Ben, you, and Anakin. This worried him and caused him to quickly abandon the lesson. Luke also realized the truth about Rey during this brief lesson: that she was the granddaughter of Darth Sidious.
After the second lesson, Luke revealed his view (or what he wanted Rey to believe) about how Ben became Kylo Ren. Leaving Rey, he went down to the mediations ledge and managed to regain his Force abilities once again. This allowed him to sense you and Leia, both unconscious across the Galaxy.
It began storming on the island and Luke went searching for Rey, sensing something off. He found Rey connecting with Kylo in a hut, revealing that they had a bond similar to what you and Obi-Wan shared. Rey and Luke began dueling as Rey questioned if Luke created Kylo. After gaining the upper hand, Rey pushed Luke to be honest with her. Luke told her about the darkness he sensed in Ben and what really happened that night.
Rey, having seen a future where Kylo turned back to the light, was convinced she could turn him. She left, going to go to him to try. Luke watched the Falcon fly off before taking a fiery torch and heading to where he kept the sacred Jedi texts. Sensing someone watching him, Luke turned to see Yoda, in Force ghost form, standing on a rock.
“Master Yoda,” Luke said roughly.
“Young Skywalker,” Yoda responded.
“I’m ending all this. The tree, the text, the Jedi. I’m going to burn it down.”
Yoda chuckled as he watched Luke unable to actually set fire to the tree. Yoda concentrated and used the Force to summon lightning, hitting the tree and allowing it to burst into flames. Luke turned around in pure shock. Yoda laughed.
“Ah, Skywalker, missed you, have I,” Yoda told him.
An explosion caused Luke to fly back, away from a tree, and to the ground. Yoda appeared in front of him, watching the bright flames.
“So it is time…” Luke said, “for the Jedi Order to end.”
“Time, it is. Hmm.” Yoda turned to face Luke. “For you to look past a pile of old books, hmm?”
“The sacred Jedi texts!”
“Oh, read them, have you?”
“Well, I…”
“Page turners, they were not. Yes, yes, yes.” Yoda walked closer to the man. “Wisdom they held, but that library contains nothing that the girl Rey does not already possess.” Luke was still watching the flames over Yoda. “Skywalker, still looking to the horizon. Never here, hmm? The need in front of your nose.” He tapped Luke on the nose with his cane. “Hmm?”
“I was weak… unwise.”
“Lost Ben Solo, you did. Lose Rey, we must not.”
“I can’t be what she needs me to be.”
“Heeded my words not, did you? Pass on what you have learned. Strength, mastery, but weakness, folly, failure, also. Yes, failure most of all. The greatest teacher, failure is… Tell you that, Obi-Wan and Y/N could.”
“Y/N… is she not the one most equipped for training Rey?”
“Y/N’s time, come it will, for many things.” Yoda sighed, thinking of you, his Padawan, and how far you’ve come and the journey that still lay ahead for you. “Luke, we are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all Masters.”
Yoda moved to sit beside Luke on the rock the man was sitting up against. The two sat back and watched the tree burn together.
“Is Rey the true Chosen One?” Luke wondered, looking to the Jedi Master for the answer.
“The Chosen One, Rey is not,” Yoda answered. “Your father and Y/N, that title belongs to.”
“But Y/N—“
Yoda tutted as he shook his head. “Again, heeded my words not you have. My Padawan’s time will come, for many things. Continue on her path, she must… depends on her, the Galaxy does.”
Luke nodded, glancing back at the flames. “Do you know the truth about Rey?”
“Mhm,” Yoda hummed. “Granddaughter of Darth Sidious, she is.”
“She is drawn to the dark side… like Ben. I fear—“
“Lose Rey, we must not,” Yoda repeated his words from earlier with a stronger conviction. “Matters not, who her family is, just as it matters not about yours.”
~~~
Gasping, you woke and could sense the distress on the cruiser. It was different like there was a rift in the Resistance. You sat up, despite the medical personnel urging you to take it slow. Looking beside you, you saw that Leia was up. She looked at you as she grabbed a cane handed to her.
“That was stupid of you,” she reprimanded.
“Leia,” your voice was clearly tired, the years of fighting seeping through your tone, “I can’t outlive anymore loved ones.”
She understood your struggle and gave you a slight smile. “I’ll try to do my best.”
You were quickly told by a Resistance officer that Poe had caused a mutiny and had taken control of the bridge. Time was running out as the transports were being loaded to get the people on board to safety. Sensing that Leia was actually weaker than you, you told her that you’d handle it. Grabbing your lightsabers and a few armed Resistance officers, you headed for the bridge. You weren’t surprised when you found the door locked.
“General, we can grab—“
“Don’t bother getting anything,” you interrupted the officer, “I can handle it.”
You ignited your yellow saber and plunged it through the door. Once you had cut a hole in the door, it fell forward onto the ground and you stepped into the room. Poe was standing near the window with 3PO and Lieutenant Connix.
“Y/N,” he breathed out.
You waved your hand, using the Force to knock Poe out. Furrowing your brows, you noticed something on his wrist. The binary beacon that was once on your wrist. You glared at the droid and the Lieutenant.
“I would get to the transports quickly if I were the two of you,” you advised as officers rushed in.
“General—“
You held your hand up. “I don’t need any excuses, 3PO. We don’t have time. Get to the transport, now!”
~~~
You chose to seclude yourself as much as you were able on the transport and meditate. The feeling of needing to strengthen your abilities was strong. You were meditating when Poe woke.
“No! No!” He exclaimed, jumping from the stretcher he was laying on. He rushed to the window that viewed the cruiser and punched it. “No, no, no!”
“Poe,” Leia calmly called from the opposite side. She looked back out her window at a nearby planet as Poe came near.
“What’s that?” Poe wondered as he sat beside Leia.”
“The mineral planet, Crait,” you responded as you came over to join them. “An uncharted hideout from the days of the Rebellion.”
“That’s a Rebel base?”
“Abandoned but heavily armored,” explained Larma D’Acy, “with enough power to get a distress signal to our allies scattered in the Outer Rim.”
“Holdo knew the First Order was tracking our big ship,” Leia told Poe. “They’re not monitoring small transports.”
“So we could slip down to the surface unnoticed and hide until the First Order passes,” Poe said, catching on to the plan. “It could work.”
“She was more interested in protecting the light,” Leia reached out and touched the beacon on Poe’s wrist and slowly pulled it off of him, “than she was seeming like a hero.”
You could tell that Leia’s words affected him. You knew that Poe thought that by wanting to be a hero, he was still doing the right thing. The man still had a lot to learn. Suddenly, the ship was rocked as one of the transports was hit and exploded. Then another. And another. Poe rushed up to the pilots, demanding full speed as another transport was destroyed. You lurched forward as you felt them die. Leia, concerned, placed a hand on your knee.
Admiral Holdo, who had stayed on the larger cruiser, turned the larger cruiser around. You looked up and watched as she prepared to make the jump to lightspeed. Reaching over, you head tightly to Leia’s hand as you watched the cruiser make the jump and hit Smoke’s ship, cutting a large chunk of it off.
“We’re still not safe,” you whispered. “That won’t stop them from following us.” You turned to look at Leia. “We need to get to Crait and fast.”

🍄🧸 for the asks! :)
Tumblr media
thanks for the asks!
🍄 mushroom: tell me about your dr family!
Certainly! In terms of biological family... I went the route 99% of shifters go- they're just not around. Being a jedi and all it would be difficult for them to be present in my life anyway, so to make it easier I just don't really know them because I haven't seen them since before I was taken to the order.
There is one exception though and it's a bit of a weird one tied to my other (star wars rebels) DR, which I have had for a looong time. Basically in that DR Ezra Bridger is my (non-biological) brother, yknow grew up together, lived together the whole deal. I faced a great deal of emotional torment when I decided to create my tcw DR, because I felt like I would be "cheating" on rebels by focusing on another DR. A friend of mine helped me realise it was alright to put that DR on the backburner for a little while, and besides I could just script Ezra in my tcw DR with me? So then came the epiphany I literally could just bring Ezra with me to my new DR, and that was genuinely really comforting and made me feel a lot better about my decision to make the tcw DR.
Anyway boring backstory aside, there is one exception and it's Ezra. The only difference is that in my tcw DR he's my second cousin (and my padawan!!) cause I thought it would be reeeally funny if I was just randomly assigned a padawan that coincidentally had the same last name as me, thinking there was no relation, until one day obi wan goes digging in the jedi archives or something and finds out oh shit! you guys are cousins fr!
Someone: *reading off a report* General Bridger and.... Commander... Bridger? Is that like your son or something?
Ezra and I, at the same time: we are NOT related!!!
Obi wan: ...😶
So that covers the biological side... but I know you're really here for the found family bit. I'd say that I consider just about everyone family, especially all the clones, but I'll rattle off a few really significant people quickly.
My old master Depa is for sure the mother figure in my life. And yes she's still keeping me in check even after I've long passed my trials and officially gotten out of her hair in the eyes of the Order. By extension, Caleb (Kanan) is someone I'd consider like a half-brother and don't worry, I make sure he and Ezra get to hang out a lot.
Obviously growing up with Anakin I'd consider him family too, and that means Obi Wan on some level as well. To me Obi Wan is kind of like a wine aunt. Will not be elaborating further. Ahsoka feels like a niece.
Despite legally becoming my brother-in-laws at some point, I do consider a lot of the clones to be either very close friends or some kind of familial figure I can't really place. Naturally some are closer to me than others such as Rex and the 501st or the Bad Batch, but I think I bond with them all pretty well.
Tech of course holds the most special place in my heart as my future husband.
...I think that covers it...
🧸 teddy: do you have a favourite childhood memory from your dr?
This one actually had me stumped for a while. I honestly, genuinely have not thought about my life before the war too much, certainly not as a child really. If I had a favourite memory of anything from my childhood it would be a toss up between:
When I was a brand new admission to the Order and didn't really know anyone or even my place in it all, I would spend most of my time in the temple library/archives. The lovely librarian Jocasta Nu was super kind to me, and I continued to spend time in there over the years and even kind of wanted to work within that area because of her kindness. Turned out not to be as I got assigned to the war instead, but the memory is still pleasant.
OR
The early days when I was chosen as Depa's padawan. Getting to know her and what she stands for and learning from her and meditating together is just such a nice bonding activity. She's super supportive and a very grounded teacher, and I think my eyes would have been sparkling watching her do all these cool things and then receiving her guidance on these same things until I was able to master them myself. Just so cool. I think she's a great jedi and a great teacher too.
And there you have it! my essay responses to your asks! hope you've enjoyed and thanks again for the submission!

hi, so, there's this headcanon I've had about Gungi for a little while and seeing him in the bad batch trailer prompted me to share it :)
(btw go watch the trailer, it's SO good)
So, do we all remember that arc in tcw where Ahsoka gets captured by the Trandoshians? If not, quick recap. Basically, they capture her during a mission and drop her on this island to hunt her for sport. She meets former Jedi younglings there and they try to escape together. One of their plans is ambushing the drop ship when it comes in to bring more prey. They fail, but the prisoner on the ships just so happens to be a Wookie (Chewbacca, actually, if I remember correctly). Now that's all good and well, but you know what surprised me? Ahsoka spoke Wookie.
I mean I get that Jedi learn different languages in order to understand different species and people around the galaxy but Wookie seems awfully specific for me. We never really see her on a mission on Kashyyyk (unlike Obi-Wan who spoke the Twi'leks language and is regularly seen with Orn Free Ta and on a mission on Ryloth) or interacting with any other Wookies. Except for Gungi.
We see them interacting in the Kyber Crystal arc and it got me thinking.
Supposedly Ahsoka is nearing the end of her Padawan Training and expects to soon become a Knight. Which makes sense if you think about it. When she first became a Padawan Anakin thought she was too young, but Yoda disagreed. Despite her age she was ready to be a Padawan on a skill-based level. Throughout the show we see people saying how she's more skilled than her peers. An early knighthood is just as plausible as her early padawan training. Take the Wrong Jedi arc. by the end (at the age of 17) she was offered knighthood. she turned it down, but that's not my point
Long story short? My headcanon is that Ahsoka was scouting Gungi, hoping to make him her student when she becomes a knight and he a padawan. And I would have LOVED to see it.
Just think about it!
Ahsoka seeing this skilled youngling and immediately learning to speak Wookie so she can give him proper training.
Her watching him extra carefully during his Kyber Crystal Trial (or whatever its called)
eventually it's time for her knighthood and for Gungi to be assigned a Master and she just nags and nags and nags Obi-Wan about bringing it up in a council meeting till he finally concedes but you can't just become a knight and then immediately get a padawan ahsoka
but anakin did, Master, why am I any different? he trained me!
*sigh* I am aware, knight tano
anyway eventually they become master and padawan and suddenly Gungi has ETERNAL bragging rights, because his master is Ahsoka Tano, former student of Anakin Skywalker, part of Yodas goddamn disaster lineage
eventually he grows taller than her, but it takes a while because her montrals also still keep growing so it doesn't count, my young, inexperienced padawan and everytime Ahsoka has to interrogate a perp she is good cop and just talks all nice and calmly to them until they eventually do something incredibly disrespectful, so she calls her student for help in handling this perp. They fully expect a small togruta child to show up and suddenly this massive Wookie is just absolutely TOWERING over them
First time Mission with the rest of disaster lineage + Rex goes absolutely south and there is an endless amount of arguing, meanwhile Rex and Gungi stand off to the side like yeah its always like this kid
Rex thinks there's finally a second reasonable person there but PLOT TWIST, Gungi lives for the drama and is spilling tea with Obi-Wan in 2 days time (he also began learning Wookie as soon as Ahsoka started nagging him)
Even Rex learned the language, but SOMEHOW Anakin just,,, didn't get the memo and never learned it so everytime they're in a room together it's just,,, uh... u good bro
*responds in Wookie, telling him he's having a rough week*
nice to hear trainings going well, pal, keep it up
*stares into the camera like he's on the office*
and somehow they kill palpatine, destroy all the chips and are a disaster family till death doth them part
the end

Red Line (0.1)
Anakin Skywalker
A/N: A little bit of tension, a little bit of flashbacks and little bit of young Anakin. Bada Bing Bada Boom. And read all of that in a New York accent because no matter how hard I try I can’t escape my accent.
Prologue   Part Two
Word Count: 5,141
Warnings: Uhhh a little tension, not really an inappropriate use of the force but two kids totally using it improperly.
Tumblr media
“All you ever do is fight dirty!” Lyra hissed before she disconnected her lightsaber from Anakin’s. She felt sweat beginning to collect on the back of her neck as their blades connected again before she turned away from him. Her hair had been tied into a sloppy bun at the base of her neck prior to the start of their duel and she felt some of the loose strands starting to get stuck in the sweat. She hated the feeling but knew that she couldn’t focus on it at the moment.
“We’re dueling for the younglings to learn and you still fight dirty!” She barely managed to move out of the way this time as his saber moved over her head, the cracking of his blade far too close to her ears for her comfort. Two months off planet meant two months of no duels. And two months of no duels meant her skills felt rather rusty, and she could not risk a lackluster performance today. She had her lightsaber with her the entire time she had been on Kessel as an extra layer of security, but she had not needed to ignite it the entire time she had been on the planet, thankfully.
The sound of Anakin and Lyra’s sabers clashing together filled the training arena and Anakin smirked, leaning in closer to Lyra this time as their blades dragged across each other the blades letting out a screech which grew louder as their blades began to travel closer to the other’s hilt. “And you can fight just as dirty as I can, you’re just choosing not to.” He raised his left eyebrow in a mocking gesture before pulling his lightsaber away unexpectedly and gracefully turning out of Lyra’s reach. Lyra knew he was trying to egg her on, trying to get her to be reactive in a way that would eventually lead her a misstep, an opening for him to gain the upper hand.
Mace and Obi-Wan had told Lyra and Anakin earlier that their duel today needed to be educational for the younglings, it didn’t need to be clean and it didn’t need to be fair. It simply needed to be educational as those they would eventually meet in combat would not fight clean as they have been learning in their classes. Armed with this knowledge Lyra looked up to where the two Jedi Masters stood behind the group of younglings, quickly making eye contact with her Master who nodded slightly. Mace and Obi-Wan both also knew that Anakin and Lyra liked to toe the line of what was allowed and what was not in their practice duels. The two Padawans were so far ahead of their peers in combat skills that they needed to find new ways to challenge each other.
Without hesitation, Lyra ignited the second blade on her saber and heard a few surprised gasps from the younglings who were watching her and Anakin’s every move. Most younglings knew that there were Jedi who wielded lightsabers with two blades, or even two separate sabers, but most likely hadn’t seen a double bladed saber used in a duel yet. It was likely made even more impressive to them by the fact that Lyra’s blade was also purple, she had gotten many of the same surprised gasps earlier when she first ignited her lightsaber.
“Now who’s the one fighting dirty?” Anakin asked as he took up a new, more defensive, stance. With her second blade lit Lyra knew that Anakin absolutely would not move first now; Anakin was typically an offensive fighter, but he knew when to slow down, when to let his opponent begin to tire themselves out. However, Lyra also knew this, and she planned to use it to her advantage. Lyra laughed lightly as she twisted the blade behind her back gracefully before she caught it with her other hand, now just showing off while she took a few moments to slew her breathing.
“Both of us are fighting dirty now, Skywalker,” Lyra shrugged before lunging at the boy, their blades again letting out a high pitched noise as they connected. Being the only Padawan to currently wield a double-bladed saber meant that Lyra often received plenty of dueling practice as most Jedi Masters wanted their own Padawan’s to train with her. However, Anakin tended to be her primary dueling opponent as they were currently the only Padawans that could pose a challenge to each other. Today they found themselves demonstrating how to duel in front of one of the older classes of Younglings, those that would soon depart on The Gathering. It served as good practice for them as well, of course, but they both had in the back of their mind that the duel was to serve education purposes as well. After their duel each of their moves would be picked apart by Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi in front of the children as a part of what they called the necessary learning experience.
The fighting between Anakin and Lyra continued for some time before she saw an opening that would allow her to gain the upper hand, and hopefully, would allow her to win. She was thankful to find this opening as her body had begun to grow tired as their fighting continued. Carefully watching Anakin’s feet Lyra allowed their lightsabers to connect in front of the two Padawan’s before she quickly turned around, allowing her second blade to push Anakin’s single blade away, the boy losing his footing momentarily as she finished spinning around, her first blade stopping right before it made contact with Anakin’s side as he steadied himself again. While the younglings would be utilizing training blades that could not injure others, Anakin and Lyra both utilized their own sabers that could do massive amounts of damage in seconds if not handled properly. They had both grazed each other on multiple occasions in the past, and it was not a pleasant feeling.
Lyra watched as Anakin’s eyes trailed down to his side where Lyra’s blade hovered, he trailed his eyes back up to her before he turned off his lightsaber; Lyra did the same moments later with both of her blades. The room went nearly silent after the lightsabers had been turned off and the two Padawans continued to watch each other closely. Lyra saw the way that Anakin’s chest heaved with deep breaths as he tried to recover from the rather long duel the pair had just fought. His saber still gripped tightly in his hand as if he wanted to reignite it. If it were just the two of them dueling and Anakin had lost he would simply insist ‘again’ before reigniting his blade and making the first, usually sloppy, offensive move. Now though, he had to concede to the girl, the young woman, standing in front of him, and it bothered him, it bothered him deeply.
Anakin’s eyes were wild, adrenaline still clearly coursing through his body from the fight he had just lost. Lyra gulped down her own deep breaths, maintaining eye contact with Anakin while she clipped her lightsaber back on to her utility belt, signaling that she was done fighting for the moment. Anakin squinted at her and offered a lopsided smirk before he clipped his own lightsaber back onto his utility belt, holding both of his hands up when he was done, signaling that he was no longer considering continuing their duel, at the moment at least. “I’ll win later, don’t worry,” the words were spoken so only Lyra could hear and she knew that she’d be seeing the boy again later that day.
The two gave each other respectful nods as they waited for Obi-Wan and Mace to join them on the floor of the dueling arena. “You used to despise your saber,” Anakin spoke quietly to Lyra as the two moved to stand closer to each other, “and now look at how valuable it has become to you.” She felt Anakin’s force signature reaching out to her, something he hadn’t done since the pair were twelve and ten. Something he had not done since Master Windu scolded them relentlessly for their attachment to one another before they were separated completely for six months.
The words stung slightly, even though they weren’t meant to, reminding Lyra that at one point she had demanded she be given a new lightsaber, convinced the force had picked wrong and that the purple double bladed weapon meant she didn’t deserve to become a Jedi, that she was doomed as some small part of the Dark Side resided inside of her. Now she embraced her unique lightsaber and used not only it, but also used her advanced knowledge of The Force, to her advantage. “I only despised it for a short amount of time,” she let her voice waver slightly before she allowed her own force signature to meet Anakin’s; comfort and familiarity immediately washing over her. “Some helped me realize the true gift it was.”
Lyra and Anakin had gone on their Gathering trip together and Anakin had seen the despair that plagued Lyra first hand when she had received a purple Kyber crystal and constructed a double bladed saber. Lyra vividly remembered not realizing her crystal was purple prior to exiting the cave last, ensuring all her clan-mates had made it out of the cave with their crystals before her.
*-*-*-*
The younglings had all begun comparing their crystals before Lyra had managed to reach the group, Master Yoda offering praise to the soon to be Padawans for successfully completing The Gathering. “Lyra isn’t back yet, Master Yoda,” Anakin approached Master Yoda, his blue Kyber crystal clasped tightly in his hand.
“A challenge she must face,” Yoda spoke to Anakin, “return to us she then will.” The small man didn’t offer any further explanation before he hobbled away from Anakin. The two had stayed together in the cave nearly the entire time, Lyra had even watched Anakin pick up his crystal, cheering when it glowed in the palm of his hand. She had insisted he travel back to Master Yoda while she ventured deeper into the cave, telling Anakin that she needed to find her crystal on her own; that she could hear it calling to her from the depth of the cave but she knew she needed to find it herself.
Huffing out a sigh Anakin pulled his coat tighter around himself and went to wait near the mouth of the cave for Lyra. He sat on a rather large rock and began to turn his own crystal between his fingers, he had hoped for blue. He didn’t see much of the color on Tatooine, but since he had arrived at the Jedi temple it had quickly become his favorite color. “I tried to say she wasn’t ready to travel here with us,” Silas, one of the boys in Lyra’s youngling clan, spoke as he stood next to Anakin. He was thirteen, three years Lyra’s elder and one year older than Anakin, but he had not yet connected with the force the way Anakin and Lyra had managed. He relied too heavily on his brute strength rather than relying on his skill and connection with the force, “If she wasn’t with us we could all be constructing our lightsabers already. Instead we’re waiting for a ten year old.”
“She was plenty ready,” Anakin didn’t spare the boy a glance as he tucked his Kyber crystal into his pocket, “she was making sure everyone else got out before she went to find her own crystal.”
“Proves she’s weak,” Silas simply crossed his arms as he spoke, “putting everyone else’s needs above her own.”
Master Yoda made his way over to the two boys and looked up at Silas. “Not weak is putting others first,” he then looked over to Anakin, “ The true way of the Jedi, putting others before yourself is.” He let out a small ‘humph’ before turning away from the two boys and rejoining the other younglings.
“Don’t worry lover boy,” Silas exaggerated the words, “she’ll probably make it out.” He patted Anakin on the back as he stood up, tossing his green Kyber crystal up in the air and catching it as he went. Jerk. Anakin turned back to watch the cave as the sun began to set in the sky, he knew once it had fully disappeared the cave would close, Lyra would be stuck inside. He pushed himself off the rock and approached the mouth of the cave, waiting for her to finally emerge. He knew he wasn’t supposed to go back in, but he felt something trying to pull him back in, like something was reaching out to him.
Anakin looked over his shoulder briefly, seeing the others too engrossed in conversation to acknowledge him, and he stepped forward into the cave once more.
The icy ceilings stretched high and, at first, he wasn’t sure what direction he was supposed to go. That was until he felt drawn to the path on his left, his feet immediately carrying him that direction. “Lyra!” He felt himself calling out her name, his voice bouncing off of the cold walls. His feet continued to move until he came to another fork in the road. However, he didn’t even need to think before he entered the path leading down and to the right. “Lyra!”
“Anakin?” A small voice called back. Anakin felt his feet begin to carry him faster until the girl in question appeared in front of him. She looked tired, moving incredibly slow. “I found my crystal, but something attacked me down there, we need to go!” That was when he noticed the deep cut that ran from her left temple down to the corner of her mouth. It was still bleeding but it didn’t seem to be too excessive. The pair followed the same path Anakin had taken in, the older boy making sure that Lyra was right next to him the entire time. What had attacked her and where did she need to go to retrieve her crystal?
The pair finally reached the mouth of the cave where they saw Master Yoda waiting for them. “Reckless that was young Skywalker. Her own way out she would have found.” Lyra just let out an exhausted sigh before she reached into the pocket of her Tauntaun fur lined coat and pulled out her crystal. The light from the Ilum sun caught her crystal and flashed purple back at her, not blue or green like the other younglings had received. She let out a defeated sigh and allowed the crystal to come to a rest in her palm.
Lyra stared at the imposter crystal in her palm before dropping it in the snow, turning to reenter the cave when a voice behind her stopped her from advancing further. “Where are you going Lyra?” Anakin stopped looking at the blue crystal in his hand when Lyra started trudging back to the cave.
“To go get my crystal, I picked up the wrong one.” Her voice sounded defeated, tiredness and disappointment beginning to fill her force signature, Master Yoda shuffled to where Lyra had dropped the supposed fake crystal and picked it up.
“A gift, this crystal is,” Master Yoda held the crystal out toward Lyra for the girl to take again. “Special is your connection with the force. Talk to the Council about this I must.” Master Yoda didn’t offer anything else as he began to shuffle back towards the ship where the younglings would craft their sabers. Lyra just stood still as the other younglings spoke excitedly to one another about their new lightsabers and Kyber crystals, staring at the purple crystal in her hand wondering why she could never just be normal. She reached a hand up to her face and saw the blood on her hand. She didn’t know how large the cut was, but she knew that she would be teased relentlessly for it.
As soon as the ship coming back from Ilum landed, Lyra was the first off,  her new Lightsaber clutched in a white-knuckled grip in her left hand and a new scar adorning the same side of her face. One of the droids on their transport had medical programming, thankfully, but Lyra’s injury had been left to fester too long without attention to disappear completely. The scar cut through the freckles that dotted her face, and if it were to have been shorter, would have just made it look like she wore a constant smile on the left side of her face.
She wasn’t even quite sure when she got the cut, she had to climb through a maze of large and sharp icicles to escape the creature that had been chasing her. It was likely that one of the frozen spears had done more than brush sharply across her face, actually breaking the skin. “It looks super cool Lyra,” Anakin had assured her once she took her place next to the boy while the constructed their lightsabers, and, while she appreciated the sentiment, it didn’t make her feel any better.
“Thanks Ani,” Lyra offered him a lopsided smile while she pulled her Kyber crystal on the table and set out to complete the task in front of her.
After constructing their sabers Lyra had discovered that her’s had not only been a different color than the other younglings, but also had a blade on either end of the hilt. She was weak, and the Force knew it, thus it had given her a lightsaber that was not only a different color but also contained two blades to makeup for her weakness. Despite Master Yoda reassuring her multiple times that she was gifted with her Kyber crystal and lightsaber, Lyra saw nothing but weakness.
The hood of her robes was pulled over her head as she exited the ship and she was determined to not make eye contact with anyone as she retreated to her chambers. No one could know what a failure she truly was. No one could see her lightsaber and no one could see the mark of failure that would now maim her face permanently. Members of the Jedi council were waiting to congratulate the group of younglings on constructing their lightsabers and completing the trial on Ilum. Lyra, however, didn’t stop to talk to any of them and in what was likely considered an act of defiance stormed right past all of them not even acknowledging their praises or questions. Obi-Wan reached out to grab Lyra’s shoulder and she easily dodged the motion, ignoring him completely.
Anakin was next off the ship and proudly clutched his new lightsaber, gladly receiving the praise he was given by the Council members. Obi-Wan, who also stood among those ready to congratulate the younglings, kept track of Lyra’s force signature as she aggressively opened the door to her living quarters and slammed it behind her, promptly blocking out anyone trying to prod into her mind or feelings. She was often more in touch with the force then the other younglings and could feel when the older, more experienced Jedi were trying to probe into her thoughts. Obi-Wan knew, however, where she would be hiding and where he would need to go look for her once they were free to leave the hanger.
“Gifted with a purple lightsaber, she was.” Master Yoda spoke as he approached Obi-Wan, Anakin at his side. “Upset about this, she is.” He looked over to Mace Windu who was now listening to what Master Yoda had to say at the mention of a purple saber. “Careful guidance, she needs. Great anger inside of her, I feel. Your padawan, Master Windu, she will be.”
Unaware of the true weight of the conversation going on around him, Anakin decided to contribute to the conversation as well. “She was upset that she was the only one who didn’t get blue or green! But her saber is purple and has two blades. It's so cool!” Obi-Wan took a deep breath and looked down at Anakin, barely, as the boy was now twelve and had just recently gone through a growth spurt. Anakin was unaware of the anger building up inside of Lyra now that she would be seen as an outlier and likely someone to be picked on.
“That does sound rather fascinating, Anakin.” Obi-Wan spoke directly to his future padawan. “Why don’t you go join the other younglings and I’ll come find you later and we can test out your new lightsaber.” “You should go check on Lyra,” Anakin’s face contorted into an unreadable expression, “she’s upset. I can feel it and she also wanted to go find a new crystal but Master Yoda said her’s was a gift. I’d be happy to get a gift like that, so I don’t know why she’s upset. Well she got hurt so maybe that’s why but she shouldn’t be upset about her lightsaber.” Mace, Obi-Wan and Yoda watched as Anakin went to join the other younglings who had just gotten their sabers, the group dueling sloppily without their blades ignited.
Obi-Wan crossed his arms over  his chest and took in a deep breath. “I’ll go try and speak to her for now, I believe I’d have the greatest chance at actually getting through to her and understanding her feelings.”. Prior to finding Anakin on Tatooine, Obi-Wan would have sworn that Lyra was meant to be his future padawan. The two had a connection that easily rivaled the one Obi-Wan shared with Anakin, especially considering that Obi-Wan and his past mentor had been the ones to discover Lyra and her force sensitivity. However, he had promised Qui-Gon prior to his passing that he would take Anakin on as his Padawan and that was not something he wanted to deny his late Master. He’d considered taking both children on as his Padawan but combined they likely had too much power for him to guide and build upon on his own.
Upon turning to leave Obi-Wan heard someone trying to catch up with him. “I thought you said we were going to test out my new lightsaber Obi-Wan,” Anakin paused a few feet behind Obi-Wan and the Jedi Knight let out a quiet sigh before turning to the youngling.
“I’m going to see how Lyra is doing and then we can try it out, does that sound okay?” Obi-Wan didn’t want to upset Anakin anymore than he had to at the moment. Anakin was already older than the others on the Gathering and that had been hard for him, but Obi-Wan also knew that someone needed to check on Lyra that she trusted before she was able to stew in her negative thoughts for too long, and he could only handle one overly upset force sensitive child at a time.
Anakin scrunched his face up in thought. “I can come check on Lyra with you.”  Anakin’s face pulled into a smile, clearly thinking he had come up with a brilliant idea. “That way you don’t need to come find me,” he shrugged, “and besides we’re usually able to cheer each other up.”
“Very well,” Obi-Wan nodded, “come along then.” Anakin fell into step behind Obi-Wan as they approached the living quarters their clan of younglings shared. While each Youngling had their own private room, there were shared bathrooms and lounge spaces. Lyra’s room sat in a corner of her clan’s space, only Anakin’s room next to her own, the corner room also allowing her additional space for storage that was the size of a large closet. Anakin and Obi-Wan being the only two that knew the space had been converted into a small area where she could go to decompress if the world felt like too much. On very rare occasions they had both been let into the space, but it did not happen often.
When they approached Lyra’s door Anakin felt the overwhelming feeling of despair begin to fill his heart. “Lyra,” Obi-Wan said softly. “I can feel the emotions simmering inside of you young one, it is not good for you to let them simmer until they begin to boil over.” Obi-Wan had been one to witness first hand just how destructive Lyra could unintentionally become if she let her emotions grow too large. An entire shelf of books about the native wildlife of Naboo had been lost in the library the last time she ignored her emotions for too long.
“Go away.” The voice was choked and clearly the girl had been crying, only confirmed by the small sniffle she let out. “I don’t want to speak with you right now.” Anakin held up a finger and leaned against the door, propping his foot up on the solid material as he did so. Obi-Wan couldn’t help but notice how much the boy in front of him had matured in the last few months, and unlike the other younglings, he knew within a few days time he would be officially taking Anakin on as a padawan, although the boy had been solely under Obi-Wan’s guidance since he arrived at the temple.
“Would you speak with me?” Anakin felt Lyra’s despair subside slightly and no answer came immediately as it did when Obi-Wan spoke. Anakin heard the closet door click open and a pair of feet shuffled towards where he and Obi-Wan stood, the shadow of Lyra’s feet blocking some of the light once seeping under her door. “Obi-Wan needs to leave though.” Anakin knew that Obi-Wan was to assure the council that Lyra was in fact emotionally stable and in no way vulnerable to her emotions, but if she would not speak to him and he could not listen in then that duty could not be fulfilled. “I’m not going to turn into a Sith because I’m upset, Obi-Wan.” Anakin could hear the eye roll in Lyra’s tone. “Just let me speak with Ani.”
“Very well,” Obi-Wan had learned what battles to give up with both Anakin and Lyra, and this was not a battle worth fighting. “You are both to come find me in my chambers once you are done talking so that we can begin practicing with your real sabers.” Once Lyra heard Obi-Wan’s footsteps disappear from their common area she unlocked the door, the small ‘click’ reaching Anakin’s ears as soon as she did so.
“You-”
“I need to wait, I know.” Anakin let out a quiet laugh as he heard Lyra shuffle away from the door. He began counting to thirty in his head before he motionlessly opened the door, slipping into the room and closing it behind himself again. He slipped off his boots and left them next to Lyra’s next to the door before he crossed the room to her small closet. “Do I need the secret code this time?”
Anakin heard a small huff from behind the door and the knob twisted, the door cracking slightly in invitation. Anakin shuffled into the dark closet and slid down the wall, pulling his knees up to his chest and resting his chin on them. He let the silence between the two of them linger for a moment as their force signatures began to wrap around one another, Anakin’s trying to counter the sadness and disappointment Lyra’s was exuding with comfort and reassurance. The two did not often let their emotions show around the other younglings, or Jedi Knights and Masters, but when they had rare moments to themselves, they would often bask in comfortable silence and let their abilities do the real talking.
“I’m already younger than everyone else in my class,” Lyra wiped her eyes with the sleeves of her robes, but fresh tears just followed, “and they made fun of me for that. Now that they’ll all know I’m weak because I need such a special lightsaber? I’m just going to leave the order, Ani.”
As soon as he heard those words Anakin was moving forward, pulling Lyra into his chest as she sobbed. “Don’t be ridiculous,” he adjusted so she was more comfortable in his hold, her face tucked into his neck as she tried to get her breathing back under control. “You are one of the most powerful younglings here with many gifts yet to be discovered.” Anakin began to run his hands through Lyra’s hair as he finally felt her begin to calm. “And you are the furthest thing from weak. The force only gifts those who are strongest in the force with such a crystal, those who are determined and prove to be incredibly brave even in the face of adversity.”
“Thanks,” Lyra sat up and pulled Anakin into a tight hug, “we can go find Obi-Wan now if you want.” She reached her fingers up to brush them over the still fresh scar on her face. “And we need to show him my scar that’s apparently super cool.” She used Anakin’s words from earlier against him and the boy in front of her used the force to flick the tip of her nose.
“Hey!” Lyra scrunched her nose in frustration while she watched Anakin go to reach for his boots to put them on, but she quickly closed her eyes before opening them to see Anakin’s boots floating in the air, just out of his grasp.
“Oops.” She let the boots fall to the floor with a thud, the two falling into a fit of laughter while they tried to beat each other out the door, pushing and shoving as they went. The youngling’s banter, however, was stopped when they saw Master Windu standing in the doorway of their housing unit. Obi-Wan stood not far behind him, a look of guilt and sadness contorting the features of his face.
“And what were the two of you doing in Lyra’s room together?” The man’s stern voice caused both younglings to stiffen, standing up a little straighter.
“Anakin was just helping me feel less upset, Master.” Lyra swallowed thickly after she spoke. “I umm- was not happy with the lightsaber I received at first and was injured on my journey inside the cave.”
Master Windu looked to Anakin who just nodded in agreement with Lyra’s statement before he let out a deep sigh. “Anakin,” the boy looked up at Master Windu, his posture becoming even more rigid, “why don’t you go with Obi-Wan, Lyra and I need to have a conversation.
“Yes Master,” Anakin began walking across the lounge area to meet Obi-Wan who looked genuinely upset. He paused briefly when he reached his Master, looking over his shoulder to give Lyra, who seemed to be getting a rather stern talking to with a smile and small wave.
Lyra held up her left hand and gave a half-fake smile in return before the door closed behind Obi-Wan and Anakin.

Three sentence fic prompt: Obi-Wan and Ahsoka, set during the Clone Wars, bonding over traumatic experiences. Maybe they’ve been captured by Dooku and are awaiting rescue so they’re just passing the time swapping stories? Or it’s post-mission, Obi-Wan’s been injured, is on some nice space drugs for the pain, but needs a minder to keep from wandering off because with the drugs he forgets how badly off his body is, so of course his grandpadawan is the perfect candidate, and he tells her way too much about his time as a Padawan.
Okay, hope this is enough inspiration for a ficlet (or two 😊)!
(Oh my gosh LOVE THIS! I'm going to do the second one now, but I might come back around to the first one. This got long OOPS).
Obi-Wan Kenobi is many things. Wise--a sage of the Order at not even forty. A brilliant diplomat. A renowned lightsaber duelist. Fond of dry humor.
One thing he also is, Ahsoka has learned, is stubborn, especially when he's hurt. I'm fine, he insists, when he is most decidedly not fine. When she first became Anakin's Padawan (and half Obi-Wan's Padawan) she thought the youngest member of the Jedi Council, calm and collected as he was, would be a good patient.
As it turns out, he's the opposite.
So here she sits, in the medbay of a docked Republic star-cruiser, tapping her foot on the metal bar of the chair next to Obi-Wan's bed. She is his minder for the next two hours while Anakin cleans up after their mission trying to chase Dooku down and reports in to the council--without Obi-Wan, which should be ... interesting.
Dooku, cheat that he is, sent dozens of Magna Guards after them while leading them through a rock-filled canyon, and Obi-Wan, getting in the way as Dooku hurled a rather large rock--boulder?--took said rock straight to the ribcage. Several were broken, and it took a while to clean up the blood. The Bacta patches are taking care of the worst of it--the bones will take time to heal--and Kix hooked Obi-Wan up to a fair amount of powerful pain killers, which are now flooding through the IV.
Ahsoka looks over when she senses her grandmaster waking up.
"Ahsoka?" Obi-Wan asks, his voice thick.
Ahsoka tries not to laugh.
"Hey, Master Obi-Wan," she says, smoothing his blankets with one hand. "I'm your minder for a bit. Anakin's orders."
Obi-Wan frowns. "Anakin can't give me orders. I'm a high general."
"He can give me orders," Ahsoka replies. "And Kix gave you orders to stay here. So did Cody. Which they can do when you're injured."
Obi-Wan considers this. "I don't think that's how it works. Where is Anakin?”
“Cleaning up and talking to the council.”
“Without me?”
“I’m afraid so.”
“May the Force be with me at the next meeting, then,” Obi-Wan mumbles. “Anakin can do anything, you know? I trust him. But sometimes when he talks to the council he forgets to leave out how many rules he broke along the way. It takes ... finesse.”
His comm buzzes on the table going off once and then again. "Who is--" he scrambles for the comm, and, lacking his usual coordination, knocks it off the table.
"I got it." Ahsoka gets up, hiding her amusement with her back turned. She checks to see who commed. "It was Master Vos. I dunno if you should be comming anyone right now, though."
Obi-Wan flops back against his pillows. "He probably wants to know if I'm at the temple." He sighs. "I wish I was at the temple. Nobody like Quinlan to make me forget I have broken ribs.”
Interesting.
"You've known him since you were Padawans, right?"
"Mhmm. He's so ... frustrating, but I ... he's a dear friend. Stupid man with his ... stupid grin."
Despite the slurred words and the light insults, Ahsoka hears deep affection in her grandmaster's voice.
Very interesting.
She scoots her chair closer. "Tell me a story from when you two were young. I don't know enough of those."
"Well," Obi-Wan supplies, far more easily than normal, "once, Quinlan's master gave him to Qui-Gon for a while for ... some reason I can't remember. And we were supposed to be meditating, but Quinlan was flirting with me and it was distracting."
Ahsoka covers her laugh with her hand. "Oh? You weren't flirting?"
"No, I was, but he was doing it ... more. Anyway, he did one headstand too many and fell into the river. I dove in after him without really thinking how to get him out."
"That doesn't sound like you, Master."
Obi-Wan shrugs. "Like I said, he was ... distracting. I wasn't ... I was silly. Qui-Gon had to come and help us get out. He was always asking me about Quinlan after that, like I was going to tell him anything. I loved Qui-Gon but you don't ... I wasn't going to talk to him about that."
"No." Ahsoka shakes her head, making assumptions about what that could be. "No of course not."
"Ahsoka?" Obi-Wan asks.
"Yes, Master Obi-Wan?"
"You did a good job today. I don't recall much of what happened just now, but you did."
Brushing back some of Obi-Wan's hair to help manage her feelings, Ahsoka smiles again, choked up.
"Thank you, Master."
Obi-Wan takes her hand and falls back asleep, and when Anakin comes in three-quarters of an hour later, he's still asleep.
"Did he wake up at all?" Anakin asks, immediately adjusting Obi-Wan’s blankets.
“For a few minutes,” Ahsoka says.
“Did he say weird stuff? He always does when he’s on pain medication and he’s actually awake.”
“Yep.”
“Will you tell me what it was?”
“What he told me is a secret between a Padawan and her Grandmaster. You’ll just have to make sure you mind him next time if you want in on that.”

an absolute fuck-up handbook
read it on the AO3 at https://archiveofourown.org/works/47920480 by notjodieyet Anakin sits Ahsoka down in the cramped, narrow seats on a Republic shuttle while she traces lines in the palms of her own hands, a lighter tangerine-orange than the rest of her, and tries to explain things his Master had explained to him, five years ago. Nothing important. Anakin rarely gets to have important conversations with his Padawan. Just—Force stuff, the kind of stuff that he has to squeeze in between missions and in long, quiet stretches on ships, the things that he had learned while sitting on scratchy carpet and listening to Obi-Wan drone on. Geonosis looms in the window, getting larger every second. They’ll land within the next five-to-ten minutes, if all goes well. “The Force, y’know,” he says, his voice raised to be heard over the grumbling of the engines. “The Force is, uh, all one system.” “What?” says Ahsoka. In which Anakin wonders if he should Call His Mom About This; heartbeats are matched up; Ahsoka takes a little nap; military rations are generally decided to be terrible; no one loses at counters; historical entertainments are nitpicked; a cup of tea is forgotten; and Obi-Wan has a terrible night's sleep. even though ahsoka is my favourite star wars character of all time, i have a feeling i’m just not going to like the ahsoka show. i have watched this character develop since i was a child, i grew up with her, i relate to her a lot. i was very much the target demigraphic for ahsoka’s character when she first came on-screen.
Aside from one scene with Rex to confirm he does, in fact, know that she survived Malachor, I don’t expect it to explore a story I really want to see her in. I know where I would take the direction of Ahsoka’s story if I were writing it — explore her young adult years hiding from the empire, and the mental health themes that come with it, deal with her survivor’s guilt that comes from being one of the only ones left who can protect and train force-sensitive children, even though she had forsaken the jedi order herself. As an (almost) fully trained Jedi, she’s pretty much carrying the only legacy the Jedi have (aside from other survivors like Quinlan Voss), but it’s a legacy she feels unworthy to carry because she gave it up. Explore her journey being able to forgive the Order only after they’re all dead and gone. Explore her how her approach to Jedi matters changes and why she comes to the mindset of being able to aid Ezra and Kanan. Then learning about Anakin and re-evaluating her time in the Jedi Order all over again. That was her master, the Jedi who trained her, who at one point in time, she held in high regard above all other Jedi, who she once thought was the only Jedi who didn’t let her down…only to realise what he became. Show her realtionship with Obi-Wan in the Rebellion era, the absolute divide between them, his grief, his loss, how his depression took from her the man she once knew, how desperate she is to help Obi Wan, give him any comfort, any hope, only to be forced to walk away all over again because you can’t help someone who doesnt want to be helped. Show them both dealing with Vader; in different ways; show Obi Wan healing, little by little, at the second chance he gets with Luke and Leia and Ahsoka’s mixed feelings of relief, hope, and regret that they could help him in a way she couldn’t. Explain why Obi Wan never told Luke about her. Show her helping Luke rebuild the Jedi school, giving the Jedi their second chance, their opportunity for redemption, and that is her gift of forgiveness for the Jedi; her reconciliation with the Order. She watches the Jedi younglings, many of whom she rescued and delivered herself; some she’s had a hand in training, and she watches Luke support them, loyally. It is a safe place. And she stays a while, watching to ensure the new school finds its feet, and it does. And there are a new generation of Padawans, and none of them are sent to war. And she allows the creation of the new Jedi Order, and it becomes what the Jedi Order never were for her. And she walks away again, because it is too late for her. Because you don’t get that time back. And she goes on, on her own journey through the galaxy, until she has done her part and, burying Rex at a ripe old age and paying tribute to the fallen of the 332nd, she walks away, again. She journeys on to Mortis, and the Daughter is born again
Of course, that’s just what I want to see from her story. I was the little girl Ahsoka’s journey was aimed at, and growing up alongside her, I think her story is about what it is to grow up, all the difficult parts of it, especially growing up too quickly, and realising the adults aren’t actually the all-perfect people you thought they were. I want to see her story of growing up go into navigating young adulthood, and how to be the adult trying to give something to the children of the word that you never knew yourself. (as a young adult diagnosed with ADHD who never received any support for it in childhood trying to stumble around blindly and build those supports now, who also works with disabled children and wants them to have it easier than I did… there’s just something beautiful and painful about giving someone else something you needed, deserved and never had)
Star Wars has been told by so many people in so many ways and it’s still being told, I think it’s the closest modern-day equivalent we have to the oral storytelling traditions of the past, like Arthuriana and the Greek mythology, and every iteration of Shakespeare’s works.
With copyright law being the way it is, stories that are told collectively by many people, across different movies, but still owned by one for-profit company, I think our storytelling ability has become relegated into official “canon” (for profit) stories and “non-canon” (fanworks, and generally not for profit) stories. That distinction has more nuance to it, of course, there are some for profit star wars stories that are not canon, EU stuff, for example, but generally speaking when a story is so expansive and told in so many ways by so mang people, it gets to a point where I think we just shouldn’t expect the lore of that story to be internally consistent. The insistence in the star wars fandom of what’s canon and not-canon, whether the last jedi contradicted the ahsoka novel, etc…. It’s basically just a by-product of copyright law. It seems sad that we distinguish the validity of a particular story by whether or not it was produced for profit, and by how much profit it made.
Anyway, all this is to say that I expect the Ahsoka series to serve as a sequel to Star Wars rebels, which feels like a choice I would not make - she seems the wrong character for a rebels sequel to focus on, and it seems the wrong era for an Ahsoka story to focus on, especially if it deals with themes of her dealin with Anakin’s fall (since their fight on Malachor was many years prior and I would hate for her character growth to be stagnant during that time) and it seems, as a live-action series, the wrong medium for BOTH and Ahsoka series and a rebels sequel. I have no idea what possessed then to do it in live-action and I will continue being annoyed by this choice.
But in all likelihood, the design choices going into the Ahsoka story will be targeting an audience other than the one Ahsoka’s character was initially created for. Because the story is made with different creative ideas in mind. I know where I would take the story, and perhaps I will write that story, just for myself, and maybe one day I might right an EU-type novel or graphic novel or comic or whatever, or maybe it only exists as a fanwork. And that’s okay. Different writers create difgerent stories with different themes in mind. And I will not approach the Ahsoka show expecting it to be the way I would tell her story. Because characters mean differeng things to different people, and all those things are meaningful.
We make our own meaning with stories, and I will keep making mine with the story of Ahsoka, and other people will keep making theirs and they will be different, and contradict each other. And that’s okay.
That’s just humans telling stories. That’s just what we do.

Listen. You can come with me to Ilum, but the first time I slip on ice (about ten steps outside the ship, far enough away that I don’t have anything to hold onto on the way back up) I’m probably taking you down with me. And that’s a shame. Do you think we’d survive? Probably not but it’ll be fun. Till the ice mazes made us confused and unable to get out Lmao.
Honestly I just want to learn everything about kyber. I think SW Visions also had a head sized chunk of kyber being used to stimulate midichlorian growth in two fetuses and it was super cool. I mean it was Palpatine that grew them and they technically were supposed to be a… mirror, of what would have happened to Luke and Leia if Palpatine got a hold of them, but they were still grown in tanks with a kyber chunk the size of a head and I think that’s how they ended up so powerful in the force. I want fics with them crossing over with Luke and Leia to see what the four of them would do with their lives if forced to confront their mirrored positions.
Yeah lol in the MA books Qui-Gon left his 14 year old (meaning, BARELY recovered from being a slave on Bandomeer and beyond fucked in the head about his place in the Jedi Order) on a planet that is actively hunting and torturing/killing both Jedi and children, but not only that, he took Obi-Wan’s saber, leaving him both weaponless and with a chunk of his soul missing. Like he straight up lied to the council and told them Obi left the order for ‘some girl’ and didn’t even tell them about killing kids or that kids were involved at all, and implied that he’d be fine. Since the council was dealing with some other bullshit at the time, and the Jedi they saved (coincidentally, Qui-Gon’s girlfriend and the mother of his daughter less than a year later, so even she isn’t trusted because she still slept with him after that) was passed out and blinded so she couldn’t testify Jinn was a lying asshole. Qui-Gon only came back for Obi-Wan several months AFTER the Young (as in the children) won their war but had their leader assassinated afterwards and for some reason the other leader blamed Obi-Wan for her death and he was labeled an outcast there too.
I mean. The movie itself didn’t make Qui-Gon out to be a good person. He happily tossed his Padawan of 13 years aside for Anakin and it HURT Obi-Wan and no amount of arguing was able to get him to apologize, but if I want to make a fic where he’s good, it has to be massively AU or even just have Qui-Gon punished for the whole incident for several years after it happens. I like giving Obi-Wan a good master but I’m not gonna pretend canon Jinn was a good person. He was at one point but then he let the loss of his second Padawan spoil every other relationship in his life till the only ones who still loved him were Yoda, Dooku, and the mother of his daughter Tahl and Obi-Wan was forced to rely on him and come to love him too. It sucks.
Some hot takes here but I gotta say them, a lightsaber isn’t a Jedi’s life because it’s their weapon, it’s simply coincidence that their weapon of choice happens to have a chunk of their literal soul powering it because kyber is bonding to a life force as a part of it’s very soul which is why I will never forgive Qui-Gon for taking part of Obi-Wan’s soul with him as if he had any RIGHT to it. Not only did he cut the boy’s hair (and again I think that’s disgusting because even if it’s Just Hair, no one in the world has the right to forcibly remove any part of your body from you) but he took Obi-Wan’s saber. His saber, which he built himself, and had a piece of his soul in it. This isn’t even talking about how Qui-Gon left a child DEFENSELESS on a planet in civil war, but he had No Right to take a child’s fractured being with him out of anger.
Conversely let’s talk about a few things here: the fact that Anakin and Obi-Wan (who famously have the exact same blade colour which I think means they have twin crystals) have such similar saber forces, but Obi-Wan couldn’t handle not burying them together when he thought his brother was dead. The fact that even if I hate his guts, Obi-Wan held onto Qui-Gon’s saber after his death because he hoped like the darksaber, maybe a part of it would remain. The fact that Luke carried an actual literal piece of his father’s soul and knew that Anakin Skywalker at his best was light and soft and happy. The fact that Obi-Wan tells Anakin that his saber is his life truly isn’t because it’s a weapon because Obi-Wan uses other weapons all the time in canon, looses that saber a lot, but because he knows what it’s like to miss pieces of your being. That Cody so willingly takes and cares for this piece of his general in the war. How many commanders cared for their general’s soul in the war? The fact that the idea that whoever wields the darksaber is the true ruler of Mandalore and whoever is given it without proof is going to be cursed is actually because Tarre is staring at them all from the afterlife like ‘these bitches are annoying the shit outta me can one of them really treat this position right before I come back just to strangle them???’ The fact that in Star Wars Visions we learn you can temper kyber to match the colour to the wielder and i think it’s also to help bond with it faster if it’s more pliant.
The fact is??? Kyber is so fucking strong okay I just wanna read 7000 books about it and if I was in SW universe I would probably run an obsessive blog about how cool I think kyber is. Also Qui-Gon is a fucknut

Ok but can you imagine a world where RoTS never happened, palps died during the battle of Coruscant, and Anakin left the jedi while in the midst of the war. Skip years later, and the war was ending or something, and padme’s invited back for treaties and such. Bail’s now the chancellor and everything.
With Bail as leader, you know the jedi would definitely have a representative aka Obi Wan. So it’ll be the first time in years they’ve seen in each other in person (anakin cut off contact cuz he was scared obi wan hated him. Obi wan did it cuz he thought he failed anakin and didn’t want to bother him). The years have been kind to Obi Wan, and he even has a new padawan. A smart, snarky, well-behaved human padawan, who looked at Obi Wan like he hung all the moons.
Cue Anakin getting jealous of a 12 year old
I love post-rots AU where Palpatine dies 💁‍♀️
I can see Anakin announcing his decision to leave the Order during a Council meeting after Grievous was killed, thinking that the war is almost over. The room is shocked, Obi-Wan, who has been back on Coruscant for half a minute and was certain that everything would start getting better now is stunned, and when asked what's prompting this Anakin casually says "I love my wife and we're expecting a child, so, you know" and it's a good thing Obi-Wan is already sitting down because, sure, he loves Padmé, no surprise here, but a wife? a CHILD??? DOES YOUR JEDI VOWS MEAN NOTHING TO YOU, YOU IDIOT
It's a bit of a mess after that, everyone is busy dealing with the end of the war, some weird Sith artefacts have been found at the late Chancellor's apartment, Obi-Wan is called to do a lot of clean-up in the Outer Rim, and they don't have time to talk about it. It's mostly a question of timing, really, because Obi-Wan leaves urgently in the night and Padmé is talking about going back to Naboo to give birth close to her family, so... Anakin ends up leaving the Temple for good while Obi-Wan is away.
Master Yoda makes it a small but almost nice event, thanking him for his service in front of the Council, and Anakin is actually quite touched to see all its members rise and bow to him before wishing him the best. Mace even puts a hand on his shoulder and gravely says "if your child is Force-sensitive, please, please don't bring them here, I don't think anyone can handle another Skywalker so soon," and even smiles when Anakin laughs at that.
Obi-Wan's absence doesn't bother them too much; they all expect him and Anakin to keep in touch anyway. Depa even jokes that she can already see Obi-Wan trying to bribe her to take his classes so he can go babysit for a day.
(When Obi-Wan comes back a few weeks later and asks for Anakin, it's Depa who has to tell him that he's already gone.)
(His face tells her that Anakin never talked about babysitting with him.)
Flash forward to a few years later, where Anakin comes to like, a Senate party or an official event as Padmé's husband with their children. He's been careful enough to avoid Obi-Wan all these years because he's certain that Obi-Wan is terribly disappointed in him, and also because he feels almost guilty for never trying to get in touch with him. Padmé has tried to get him to send a comm, really tried, but the only time Anakin accepts to talk about Obi-Wan is when he's telling bedtime stories to Luke and Leia, and that's it.
So it's a bit awkward when Anakin goes to look for his children who have suddenly disappeared in the middle of the reception and find them kneeling in a corner of a corridor, teaching what is clearly a young padawan a complicated hand-clapping game. They must have been here for a while now because the padawan has memorised most of the song, even if Leia keeps correcting her left hand on some of the gestures.
Anakin has to admit that it's a bit cute, that's probably why he asks if he can join too, even laughs and reassures the little Jedi when she looks a bit embarrassed to be caught in such a silly position. Anyone who can hold his children's attention for that long and stay patient with them is a gift from the Force.
He's so engrossed in the game that he's almost surprised when someone clears their throat above him.
He's even more surprised after raising his head up and finding Obi-Wan's face blinking at him.
Anakin can only blink back for a few seconds. He never expected that he would see his master again while sitting on the floor of an empty corridor, clapping hands with Luke and a padawan and singing about three little loth-cats going to the market.
It's a lot to take in, and Obi-Wan is still watching him, and it's his master right here, and he looks so composed and way more relaxed than during the war, and his eyes that he hasn't seen in years are still on Anakin, and oh Force, he really missed seeing this face, and—
"You have a lot of grey hair," Anakin lies, and immediately regrets it.
He can hear the Padawan gasping next to him.
Somehow, Obi-Wan doesn't look impressed.

A/n: okay i kinda like this part but still kinda a filler, next part will be good stuff
Words: 2.1k
Tumblr media
Anakin came back the next morning, when it was still early, and the twin suns were barely peaking over the edge of the sand on the horizon line. He came bearing nothing but his mother's body, which to everyone's dismay, brought an intense darkness in the atmosphere. You could feel it, the dark that coursed through his veins, branching out into the air and trying to intoxicate any being it could. It was powerful, and you nearly lost your footing for how strongly it impacted you.
There was a simple funeral, family only, with the exception to both you and Padme.
You were filled with a sorrow over the woman you didn't think you would have. You felt connected to her in a way you couldn't explain, like you'd known her, and her gentle motherly love and kindness. You remembered suddenly why you felt this way. All the times you helped Anakin to sleep, removing the bad dreams from his mind, usually of her, you were able to protect the good memories and thoughts he had about her, seeing them vaguely in his mind whenever your signature brushed his. She meant so much to him, and you knew instantly the for the sudden darkness in his presence. You knew Padme and the others were blind to its feeling, its power, but you weren't. You wanted to speak with him about it at least once before you left the planet, but upon R-2's arrival, his beeps and whistles going off in a nervous rant about getting back to the ship, you knew it would have to wait.
You sensed it again, the pull on your signature, coming from far off in the galaxy, begging for help but not letting you connect yourself to it. You ran to the ship ahead of the others, but they joined you upon seeing your haste. You immediately pulled up the transmission that R-2 had been going out about, and as sense of relief rushed over you at the sight of Obi-Wan on the hologram stand.
"Anakin, my long-range transmitter has been knocked out, retransmit this message to Coruscant," he began, and Padme turned, pushing the button that would forward the holo-message to the Jedi temple. "I have tracked the bounty hunter Jango Fett to the droid foundries on Geonosis. The trade federation is to take delivery of a droid army, here, and it is clear that Viceroy Gunnray is behind the assassination attempts on senator Amidala. The Commerce Guilds and Corporate Alliance have both pledged their armies to Count Dooku and are forming an... Wait..."
Your heart began pounding quickly and your eyes widened in fear at the sight of him activating his saber, deflecting the shots of a battle droid, which soon came into view upon the hologram. Your sense of unease returned at an alarmingly fast rate, and you gripped the arm of your seat to try and keep your composure. Padme knew with just one look like you were about to combust.
You completely blocked out anything happening around you for a moment, including Mace Windu's instructions on what you were to do to protect the senator. Anakin answered on both of your behalf, before ending the transmission.
"They'll never make it in time, they half to come halfway across the galaxy."
Padme's words did their job on filling you in for what you missed the last few seconds. You were controlled now by your feelings, and not your right mind, you wouldn't stand for it.
"Anakin, we have to go get him, Geonosis is less than a parsec away," you said, already moving to the pilot's seat, next to Padme who occupied co-pilot. She would support your decision, but as you suspected, Anakin didn't.
"If he's still alive."
Of course, your fellow padawan and his undying optimism would strike again.
"Ani, are you going to just sit here and let him die?" Padme furrowed her brows and turned her seat to face him as he paced the confines of the ship.
You didn't care what would happen, you would leave them here and find Obi-Wan yourself. You prepared the ship, regardless of the orders you'd been given only moments ago. You were not a soldier, you were a Jedi, and followed the ways of the force. The force was pulling you to your master, and you were going to follow it.
"He's your friend, your mentor, he's-"
"He's like my father," Anakin replied, his voice changed, and you sensed a small bit of that darkness you'd felt in him earlier from his anger. Anger leads to hate, and hate leads to destruction. "But you heard Master Windu, he gave me strict orders to stay here."
"Anakin if you refuse to come, I suggest to you that you take Padme back to the Lars home and keep her safe there, but I'm taking this ship, and I'm going to Geonosis. With, or without you. Your choice," you said to him, not mean, but firm in your tone. You had never been so driven in your life to put yourself in danger over another person, and though it may be due to attachment, you felt pride in how confident you were right now. You hardly ever were.
Anakin didn't speak, just looked down, and so you turned back around, preparing the controls and such before it was time for him to make a final decision.
"Master Windu gave you strict orders to protect me," Padme said, looking at you before looking at him. "And I'm going with her, to help Obi-Wan."
"If you're planning on protecting her, you'll just have to come along," you said in addition to her statement.
Padme had also turned around, helping you to get the ship in the air, while Anakin smirked behind the two of you. He'd be damned not to admit it, but the women he'd met in this galaxy were some of the strongest beings ever known. He was always so empowered by watching yours and Padme's strength, though both of you were strong in different ways, with Padme being more resilient as a politician, and you being physically more of a worthy opponent. You both did your duties with strength and pure will.
Once the ship was in the air, and heading towards the correct destination, you handed over the controls to Anakin, knowing he was a far better pilot than you were. That was something you would need to work on in the future if you were to ever go on a starfighter mission with your master. Of course, you need a master to go on missions with, and if you were unable to save Obi-Wan, you were unsure of what you would do.
You sat in one of the small chambers of the ship, leaning your head against the wall and closing your eyes for only a moment. You'd thought that maybe that would bring you peace, and your head would dull out the noise that echoed loudly in the force. You shot your eyes open the very next second, realizing that, no, it did not make it better, only worse. The noise and pressure that weighed on you was heavy, and you supposed your deep connection to the force, and its way of using you as an instrument were the reason for that. Jedi were the force made living beings, but consulars were always known to be deeply connected to it in ways the other Jedi weren't as gifted with.
"Hey," Padme sat beside you in the confined space, and though there was little room, you couldn't seem to mind her company. Her presence was soothing. "This must be the reason for your-"
"Yes," you cut her off, but not to be rude. You didn't want to hear another person say it when you had been feeling and thinking about it all day and yesterday. It plagued you to no end and you wished it away, but that wouldn't happen until you knew Obi-Wan's fate was secure on the safe side of things. "I hate admitting when I'm afraid, but right now it's the only feeling I can seem to have."
"It's perfectly normal to be afraid. It's our human nature to be scared when someone we love is in danger."
She picked up your hand, which was nervously fidgeting by your robes beside you. She squeezed it and smiled at you reassuringly, and you let out a deep breath, trying to remember how to combat this feeling that swarmed in your stomach. Obi-Wan had taught you many ways, in fact, to sure yourself of the ache that your anxiety caused you in situations like this... but truthfully there had never been a situation like this. The time when you were captured, and tortured in the grasp of Count Dooku, it had been you going through the pain and suffering. You couldn't bear to let Obi-Wan endure that. It would hurt you far worse than anything you had to deal with yourself.
"If I can't save him, I will never forgive myself," you looked up at her with eyes full of tears, yet to be spilled onto your cheeks, which were growing red by the second. "If he dies-"
"We will find that before that happens. We have to believe that he is still alive."
"I know he's alive, I can feel it," you told her, and she breathed a breath of relief. It was a tricky thing, yours and Obi-Wan's force bond. It was something that could either bring peace to you, or alternatively, anguish. It would only be a matter of time, and you'd hoped that you would not fail to arrive before they tried to kill him. "My biggest fear has always been that I would fail him, and now that his life is on the line, I can't seem to control myself anymore. Using my feelings has always been a useful tool in battle, but now I sense they have taken me over, and are using me instead."
Padme listened to the words with great focus, trying her hardest to come up with a wise piece of advice, but she had never been one to use the force, or even know much about it. She could only offer you her encouragement, which is what she did.
"You are stronger than almost anyone I've met, and I know you will make the right decisions when the time comes. I'm sure by the end, Obi-Wan will be back by your side where he belongs."
You smiled and nodded in thanks. As young as she was, she was wise beyond her years, as you'd hoped to be by the time you became a Jedi Knight.
-
Geonosis was a drab planet, not drabber than Tatooine, thank the maker. It was still not a most wonderful placed for your usual Jedi attire. Any place where the suns shined onto a desert was a place you likely did not want to be, but under the current circumstances, you'd do your time here.
The base on this planet was not just a base, but a factory, which you'd vaguely remembered about from Obi-Wan's message.
"Where are you going?" Anakin asked you, trying to make his own way through the place, with the droids and Padme following close on his tracks.
"Wherever the force takes me," you raised an eyebrow, about to go down a pathway which seemed like the way to a trap, but you felt a pull coming from that direction. "Go ahead without me, if it's a dead end, I'll catch up."
You knew it wasn't going to be a dead end, and so did Anakin, but he nodded anyway, continuing on his own path. Dead ends were rare among the Jedi, because as a Jedi, you can use your lightsaber to simply create another path with seconds. There was no such thing as a permanent dead end.
You felt the pull get stronger as you went, but before you knew it, you were backing away out of sight. Droids were pacing the hallway, and it was a wonder you went unnoticed just now. You were hoping to make a diversion somehow and looked around to find some sort of object. There were processing units with manning droids at the end of the hall, and you tried, as discretely as possible, to make it malfunction. You should have known, in all of your years of training, you were never discrete. The droid's mechanical arms went failing about, and within seconds they were distracting the other droids in the hall. You snuck passed them and soon gained access to a doorway, which of course was sealed shut and there was no way in without an access code.
"Kriff," you said, feeling the presence you'd been looking for this whole time. It was right on the other side of this door. He was on the other side of this door. You closed your eyes and tried to focus, but you were quickly interrupted with a hand on your shoulder.
"Lovely to see you again, young Padawan."
Count Dooku.

Anakin knows what he’s doing is wrong...
Whenever I read people using the idea that “from Anakin’s point of view the Jedi are evil” as the ultimate proof that he felt bullied by them, I roll my eyes. Anakin is intelligent enough to know when he’s wrong.
Tumblr media
He doesn’t really think the Jedi are evil, he’s lying to himself, he bought his own con.
Anakin was a good kid to begin with, and with the Jedi training he became a great man. If you look at things objectively, Anakin is 90% of a great Jedi. He’s seemingly learned all the rules, and is wise enough to teach them to others:
Be it by telling Ahsoka that she needs to follow the rules, she can’t just go around and do whatever she feels like, it’ll lead to trouble…
Tumblr media
… by encouraging his Padawan not to be too hard on herself…
Tumblr media
… or be it by encouraging rational thought over hotheadedness.
Tumblr media
In that last image, Anakin is Anakin telling Ahsoka and Rex to stop letting their emotions do the thinking and act logically. He’s telling them to be prudent.
Hell, he even believes that patience is a virtue.
Tumblr media
Anakin is a trained Jedi Knight. He has the theoretical know-how to get out of his problems, in ROTS.
In fact, a lot of people forget this, but Anakin’s first instinct, upon finding out Palpatine is, in fact, Darth Sidious, is this:
Tumblr media
The Jedi are Anakin’s family. If Palpatine is asking Anakin to choose between the Chancellor and the Jedi, he’ll choose the Jedi every damn time (which is why Palpatine makes Anakin choose between the Jedi and Padmé, instead).
So where’s the problem?
That last 10% of what makes a great Jedi. Introspection, self-control.
Despite being wise, clever and thinking rationally - Anakin has trouble applying those lessons to himself.
When it comes to his own personal problems, he's hard on himself, he’s impatient, he breaks the rules and acts out of emotion instead of thinking things through.
As Obi-Wan puts it:
Tumblr media
As a result of this flaw, Anakin keeps choosing the wrong path, despite knowing that it’s the wrong path. The Force puts a lot of tests in front of him, and he keeps choosing the easy way out, rather than the more difficult but ultimately satisfying path.
His mother was killed. He can choose to genocide a whole Tusken village, or be the better man and just walk away. He kills the Tuskens.
Dooku is unarmed and helpless. Anakin can either kill him in a rage, out of revenge, or he can capture him, bring him to justice, and potentially discover the identity of the second Sith Lord. He kills Dooku.
Windu is also helpless (his hand was just cut off by Anakin) and Palpatine is killing him. Anakin can either choose to save Windu and arrest Palpatine (who just revealed that he wasn’t “too weak” after all), or he can let Windu die. He lets Windu die.
Padmé tells him that this isn’t what she wants. He can actually listen to her wishes. Or he can go on a maniacal rant about having ultimate power, ignoring her own opinions completely. He goes on a rant, drunk with power. Then chokes her.
Obi-Wan tells him to stop, tries to reason with him: Chancellor Palpatine is evil. Anakin knows this. He can stop lying to himself and accept his mistakes, ending the fight. Or he can give Obi-Wan his two-cent rationalization about the Jedi being evil (which he doesn’t even really believe in), and keep trying to kill Obi-Wan. He keeps trying to kill Obi-Wan.
The more the War goes on, the more it gets easy for Anakin to take the easy path, over and over. But he knows it’s the wrong thing to do.
In the director’s commentary of Revenge of the Sith, George Lucas said this about the following two scenes:
Tumblr media
“I like this scene because he's lying to her and he's rationalizing it at the same time by saying he's doing it all for her. He's loyal to the senate and the chancellor and her. But in the end- I mean, he's twisted every fact to his own rationale to make it seem like it's okay, but in the process of lying to her he's actually just lying to himself and rationalizing his behavior. 'Cause he knows he's wrong, but he won't admit it […] he's too far gone- that he could murder a bunch of kids… and then go and rationalize it to her as just doing his job.”
Tumblr media
“The tear [on Anakin’s face] says that he knows what he's done, but he has now committed himself to a path that he may not agree with… but he is going to go on anyway. It's the one moment that says he's self-aware that he's rationalizing all his behavior. He's doing terrible things, but in the end he really knows the truth. He knows that he's evil now, and there's nothing he can do about it.”
Anakin tells himself that he’s doing this for Padmé, he’s doing this because the Jedi betrayed him, blabla.
Truth is? He’s just really really scared. And that made him do really bad things.
There’s this incredible moment in Darth Vader: Lord of the Sith #5.
Vader has taken the lightsaber off a Jedi, and now he has to corrupt the saber’s crystal to get his red blade.
The crystal, and by extension, the Force, showed him a vision, a path where he turned to the Light, defeated the Emperor and put an end to his suffering. A path of redemption. This was his reaction:
Tumblr media
Vader refuses to take the hard path and chooses the easy path instead, once again. He rejects the Light and hangs on to the pain… because deep down… below the “they betrayed me” bullshit he keeps telling himself… he thinks he deserves it, because he did the wrong thing.
Anakin knows he’s wrong and he’s still goes forward with doing the wrong thing, no matter what test the Force keeps throwing his way.
And that’s why his sacrifice in Return of the Jedi is so impactful. He finally does the right thing, he accepts that it’ll be hard, that he’ll die if he saves Luke… he doesn’t care. Luke loves him, like Padmé did. He failed once. He won’t fail again.
I’m gonna conclude this with one more quote from Lucas:
“It really has to do with learning. Children teach you compassion. They teach you to love unconditionally. Anakin can’t be redeemed for all the pain and suffering he’s caused. He doesn’t right the wrongs, but he stops the horror. The end of the Saga is simply Anakin saying: ‘I care about this person, regardless of what it means to me. I will throw away everything that I have, everything that I have grown to love - primarily the Emperor - and throw away my life, to save this person. And I’m doing this because he has faith in me, loves me despite all the horrible things I’ve done. I broke his mother’s heart, but he still cares about me, and I can’t let that die’.”

"I never meant to." It wasn't what he had wanted to say, but he didn't think Anakin was capable (or willing) to accept the simple fact Obi-Wan was unable to rewrite the details of the universe for an answer. There was no controlling life any more than there was controlling how the suns set over the horizon. Yet, control was something Anakin had never understood, always struggled with; he'd been born into a world without the mere concept of it and then taken into another where it both existed and not all the same. The Jedi had been meant to free him, but it was obvious how they had just put him in another cage, one gilded and with bars easier to see past. As was with everyone in the Order, he didn't have to stay, but he had been a child with nowhere to go and no one else to turn to; what choice had there had ever been? For someone with no say in so much of their life, the darkness was always tempting, all-consuming with promise, and power, and all the control and safety one could ever need. Safety from him, from Obi-Wan Kenobi who had raised him into adulthood, brushed the matts out of his tangled hair, made his bed when he had run late for class, and listened to endless hours of mechanic babbling that he could never hope to understand. Just yesterday, he had been so proud of who that little boy had become. Now—with blood still warm and dripping from his fingertips—he was terrified for him.
Anakin had always been brilliant, painfully bright, and it had been selfish of Obi-Wan to take the boy as a padawan when he himself was just learning how to not be one. It had been what Qui-Gon wanted, but was it what Anakin deserved? Had this darkness truly just only blossomed, or had it been budding for years with him willfully ignorant? Too engrossed with the affairs of the galaxy, the senate, the Order, to see the child suffering just beside him.
There was a hesitation to the way he reached back, hand stopping just inches short of him with cautious eyes and an even more cautious stance. Obi-Wan had physically felt darksiders before: through battles where he'd lost his lightsaber and through taunting touches when they'd thought they had their victory over him. They wanted to feel his death through his flesh and bone; they had not once offered him a hand that wasn't one he was meant to bite. They had never been his friend, his child. It made him wonder if Anakin would feel any different, frigid and static like a corpse.
"Anything. I am not leaving without you and I am not leaving without her. You have my word." He always had. How long had he spent thinking otherwise? It was difficult to tell whether it was the last of Obi-Wan's sanity or heart slipping away, but it was and with it, so too fell his second saber. He finally grabbed for Anakin's hand (it was still much too small in his own palm).
"I didn't betray you. You are letting darkness whisper in your ears and speaking its madness . . . but I am not without fault. I failed you, I didn't protect you." And he was hurt—being pulled into something worse than death—by Obi-Wan and by someone he had failed to stop, failed to even see.
"You are in control here. I will work with you and together we can make sure no one else has to die. Like we always have. Listen to me, not . . . it."

He had let himself be consumed by the dark side. It was the only way he was going to save Padme. That was still the only way he was going to save her. She was going to be saved, and he would get her to believe in him again. This was all Obi-Wan's fault. He turned her against him. He may have saved the people in the temple, may not quite be lost to it all as everyone thought, but it still was in him. Anakin Skywalker had become a Sith. But, he also still had his conscience and hadn't been able to hurt people at the Temple. The Clones...they were his men. He couldn't stop what they did.
Now the Separatist Council...he was proud of his new powers. He'd ripped them apart. Many of them had hurt Padme over the years and anyone who threatened what he had built with her should die and would. Obi-Wan was on that list, at the moment. His master had told him to show no mercy and it was hard for him not to, but still, he had turned her against him.
What had happened in the Chancellor's office had been a nightmare. He should never have helped do what he do, but he knew he would not have made it out alive, when he agreed to swear himself to his new master's teachings. Otherwise, he was a liability who had seen too much.
They had been fighting for what seemed like hours and he had been careless, in his last motion. Anakin was hurt but the dark side, which was strong on Mustafar kept him from being too hurt. He'd have one hell of a gouge in his leg, and he needed bacta. His other arm, the one he'd already lost, was likely going to need help. But, he was angry. His eyes were glowing yellow, and as much as he wasn't completely gone as a Sith, his anger was worse than it had ever been. He was volatile.
"You are my enemy. You turned her against me. I need her. She is the only good left in me. Our baby...she's my wife and look what you made me do to her."
But, he was listening still. He made a sound. He was in pain, not just physically. He'd clearly lost his damn mind and he was shaking. Using the dark side, he managed to somewhat calm the fires of Mustafar, and he offered Obi-Wan his arm.
"Hurt my arm or do anything to make sure we can't get her somewhere safe, and I will twist your head off and make sure your brain is still alive and you feel every bit of it."
He was going with him, but he was still angry and the Sith he had become was still very much in control.
"And they call you a negotiator. You got a pregnant woman and your former Padawan hurt..."
He'd calm down.
