quote of John Grey I liked from from The Scottish Prisoner. 🤭 I bet he'd enjoy said service from Jamie 😋
“Did Fraser speak it?” Oh, God, Grey thought. Not that. Anything but that. “Yes,” he said, though. He had often overheard James Fraser speaking in his native tongue to the other prisoners, the words mysterious and flowing. “When did you see him last?” “Not for some time.” Grey spoke briefly, his voice careful. He hadn’t spoken to the man in more than a year. Not careful enough; Hal came round in front of him, examining him at close range, as though he might be an unusual sort of Chinese jug. “He is still at Helwater, is he not? Will you go and ask him about Siverly?” Hal said mildly. “No.” “No?” “I would not piss on him was he burning in the flames of hell,” Grey said politely. One of Hal’s brows flicked upward, but only momentarily. “Just so,” he said dryly. “The question, though, is whether Fraser might be inclined to perform a similar service for you.” Grey placed his cup carefully in the center of the desk. “Only if he thought I might drown,” he said, and went out.

John: "I could make you scream."
Jamie: "I think not."
John: comes up out of the water looking like Medusa.
Jamie: screams
John: "I didn't mean like that! "

One thing I love about Outlander is the unique character dynamics, and I wondered what were other ppls favorites. You can also rank these if you’d like, cuz all of them are great in their own way.

Such excellent analysis! I chewed on these ideas for hours and days. Thank you for articulating them for the fandom.
Have you read Scottish prisoner? Just read the passage with the priest and found it interesting that he recommends Jamie to find another love . Jamie feels peace in that scene and perhaps explains his later agreement to be with leoghaire. Thought?
Hi anon - here’s the passage you’re referring to (emphasis mine):
“I was going to recommend that you find a good girl and marry her, but I saw how it is with you; your wife’s still with you.” He spoke in an entirely matter-of-fact tone of voice.
“It wouldn’t be fair on a young woman, were you to marry while that’s the case. At the same time, you mustn’t cling over-long to the memory of your wife; she’s safe with God now, and you must deal with your life. Soon … but you’ll know when it’s right.”
“You’re wife’s still with you,” the priest observes. This takes place roughly 14 years after Claire returns to her own time - and for most of those 14 years, Jamie has spent a lot of time in his own company, or in the company of other men  - with zero chance of even looking for a wife, let alone wanting one.
The priest is trying to be kind - he sees that Jamie’s soul is restless, that his heart is rootless and lacks an anchor. And that Jamie’s every breath is still for his lost wife and child.
What else can he say but recommend that he find peace in the arms of another woman - especially when the woman whom he loves so much will never come back?
And when he says that it wouldn’t be fair to another woman, should Jamie marry while he still longs for Claire - well, even when Jenny convinces him to marry Laoghaire, he still pines for Claire. He never gives Laoghaire his whole heart. And of course it’s inherently unfair to the both of them - but there it is.
The priest also says “you’ll know when it’s right.” But Jamie never reaches this point - it’s never “right” to move on from Claire. Which makes his ill-fated marriage to Laoghaire that much more sad and incomplete and unfulfilled.

This should not have taken so long
Trans women who have hurt or threatened women or girls will not be held in female prisons unless there are "exceptional" circumstances, new guidance states.
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) policy follows a public outcry after a rapist was sent to a women's prison.
Isla Bryson raped two women while known as Adam Graham.
The Scottish Conservatives said the new policy was "subjective" and "unacceptable".
The latest figures show there were 23 trans prisoners in Scotland from January to March this year.
They included 19 trans women, seven of whom were in a women's prison, and four trans men - one of whom was in a male prison.
Under previous guidance drawn up in 2014, the prison service allowed prisoners to be placed in facilities matching their gender identity, rather than their sex at birth, providing accommodation that "best suits the person in custody's needs".
This was reviewed and in February, following the Bryson case, it was updated to say no newly convicted or remanded transgender prisoner with a history of violence against women would be housed in female prison facilities.
Under the new policy - which will come into force in February 2024 - a trans woman would not be allowed to move into the female estate if they had been convicted of, or were on remand awaiting trial for, a crime that harmed a female - unless there was "compelling evidence that they did not present an unacceptable risk of harm to those in the women's prison".
These offences include any that result in suffering to a female, such as sexual offences, murder, assault, abduction and intimidation.
Those who have changed their legal gender can also be housed in accordance with their sex at birth, "if it is considered necessary to support people's safety and wellbeing".
The policy states: "Only when staff have enough information to reach a decision that a trans individual can be safely accommodated will they be placed in an establishment which matches their affirmed gender."
Trans men will be admitted to the female estate, but those who have committed crimes against women may be kept separate from other prisoners if it is "deemed necessary" to "keep women in custody safe".
The new guidelines also allow officers to search inmates regardless of the inmate's "affirmed gender" or sex assigned at birth, "if it is necessary to keep the individual or staff safe".
Risks carefully managed'
Teresa Medhurst, chief executive of the Scottish Prison Service, said if a trans woman's offences were historic and low level, they could be moved to the female estate, but she stressed that would be exceptional.
She said all prisoners were "treated with dignity and respect, with their rights upheld, and any risks carefully managed".
"The position, whilst it is still individualised, will ensure that those that have a history of violence against women and girls and present a risk to women will no longer be placed on admission in the women's estate.
"I am content that everyone who is a transgender individual is located in the prison which best suits their risk and needs profile."
She added that she was confident the new policy would address public concerns surrounding trans prisoners.
Tumblr media
The Scottish government's Justice Secretary Angela Constance said the new policy protected the "safety and welfare" of staff and prisoners, and the "rights of transgender people".
She said: "SPS has considerable expertise, as well as a duty of care for the management of people in their custody, and this policy upholds its responsibilities to deliver safe, secure and suitable services for all."
Scottish Conservative justice spokesman Russell Findlay MSP said the new prison policy was "unacceptable" and put women at "even greater risk by further eroding their fundamental right to single-sex space".
"They say that male prisoners with a history of violence against women or girls should be allowed in the female estate and will only be blocked if they present a risk, which is completely subjective."
Lucy Hunter Blackman, from policy analysts Murray Blackburn Mackenzie, said any new policy in Scotland should not "talk narrowly about the potential risk of a physical or sexual assault".
She added: "It needs to recognise how the presence of someone male might impact upon group of vulnerable traumatised women, held in spaces from which they cannot escape."

Up next for Ivypool's Heart designs, it's the second half of our wildcat pair, the lovely Stalk Purr! I loved these two characters, especially Stalk Purr, I loved the conversation she had with Ivypool about Bristlefrost.
Stalk Purr is not given a physical description beyond his pattern, but her species does not have nearly as much variation in build as domestic cats, so I stuck close to what a Scottish Wildcat should look like. She's a bit taller and leggier than her mate, but that's about it. I'm a little worried I made them look too different and that Stalk Purr doesn't look enough like a wildcat, but hopefully not?
For her pattern, Stalk Purr is described as a brown tabby wildcat. Again, didn't stray too far from what a Scottish Wildcat generally looks like - brown tabby, darker stripes on the points and chest, less pale belly fur, pale green eyes, etc. Again, ended up more different from Tumble Leap than I initially planned, but they both look like photos of wildcats I studied while drawing these, so hopefully they're both within the bounds of what's possible for their species?
Overall, despite my concerns, I am still fairly happy with how this turned out.

Mit diesem Foto dabei, muss ich das doch glatt nochmal rebloggen.
this is sooo cute
“His excellency the graf hopes you will accept this token of his friendship.”
Deeply puzzled, Grey lifted the lid of the basket and, in the light of the candles, found a pair of bright dark eyes staring up at him from the face of a tiny, long-nosed black puppy, curled up on a white linen towel. The little hound had floppy ears and absurdly stumpy, powerful legs, with huge paws and a long, graceful tail whose tip beat in tentative greeting.
Grey laughed, utterly charmed, and gently picked the puppy up. It was a badger hound, specially bred by Stephan; he called them Dackels, an affectionate diminutive for dachs-hund—“badger hound.” It put out a tiny pink tongue and very delicately licked his knuckles.
“Hallo, there,” he said to the puppy. “Hungry? I am. Let’s go and find some milk for you, shall we?” He dug in his pocket and offered a coin to the servant but found the man now holding a sealed note, which he put into Grey’s hand with another obsequious bow.
Not wanting to set down the dog, he managed to break the seal with his thumb and open the note. In the light of the nearest sconce, he read Stephan’s words, set down in German in a firm black hand.
‘Bring him when you come to visit me. We will perhaps hunt together again.’

On 17th June 1567 Mary, Queen of Scots, was imprisoned in Loch Leven Castle, on the island in the middle of the loch.
After events at Carberry Hill, she was taken to the Castle by Lords Lindsay and Ruthven, under her half-brother's instructions, Lord Moray.
It was there at Loch Leven that she is said to have miscarried twins fathered by James Hepburn. There are a differing versions of this, the first is that Mary herself allegedly said that she was seven months pregnant in July, which would mean that she was already with Bothwell months before Darnley's murder. The second dispute is over what happened to the children. The most widely accepted theory as narrated by Claude Nau, her secretary who wrote under her authority, is that there were stillborn twins who were buried on the island,
And yet another version, is that Mary gave birth later to a daughter who was smuggled out of Lochleven and sent to France. Mary's French relatives would have sent her to a convent in Soissons where she became a nun. Although improbable, the story is not impossible, I myself think it’s nonsense.
Whatever the truth, Mary did fall very ill on the island, and it was in this weakened and vulnerable state that Moray sent Lords Ruthven, Melville and Lindsay to present her with abdication papers. She was forced to sign them under threat from Lindsay on 24th July 1567, more of that to come.
In the spring of the following year Mary made her escape from the castle, dressed as a servant girl.

Saw The professor and the Madman today in which a Scottish (my Italian ass thought his accent Welsh at first and Welsh he staid in my mind the whole time) man of great knoledge but relatively low social origin collaborated with a man of previous high social status, now imprisoned for murder and believed mad and dangerous. Could not keep wolfstar out of my head one (1) second. Cried. Felt the need to share.this ha

Been thinking about the 141 boys coming to visit your southern family…
Price ends up out back with your papaw and uncles staring at a riding mower that they haven’t been able to get back up and working. Beer in hand, hip cocked, mimicking their ‘uh-uh’s and ‘yep’s. He tries to help with grilling but your dad won’t let him anywhere near it because “damn brits can’t cook out to save their lives. I’ve seen what y’all eat.”
Ghost gets a little overwhelmed by the women fussing over him. He’s on his third plate of food and your mimi is still loading him up with more mac n cheese because “He’s just such a big boy - he really needs to fill up! Are you sure you’re feeding him enough?” Luckily Simon is a literal human vacuum - a total garbage disposal. He drinks about a pitcher of sweet tea by himself because you can’t tell me that man doesn’t have a deadly sweet tooth. You have to drive home after the food coma they put him in.
Gaz is the decided favorite son-in-law (never mind that you aren’t married yet.) He’s just so polite, happily helping wherever needed. Quick witted and more than prepared to participate in the small town gossip. Giving genuine, dramatic gasps at the news that the preachers son of your family’s rival church took a trip (went to prison). It just makes sense that boy always had a screw loose, after all. He picks up on the cooking easily enough, asking your mom for all her recipes to make both you and her a lovely custom cook book of family recipes.
Soap goes absolutely hog wild on the four wheelers with your cousins. Regaling the younger ones with stories of his ‘adventures’ (pranks on the other 141 members.) He picks up some of your slang for the fun of it. After all, sigogglin’ just works with a Scottish accent so well. Unfortunately he can’t handle the jalapeño corn bread - it’s just too spicy for the poor boy.
