thinking about the reboot mw games collectively and it’s so sadly unfortunate because like. when put up against the other two, mwiii fails so visibly.

first of all you’ve got their thesis/emotional core, right. for mw19, it’s all about the personal motivation of being a solider, the cost of war on an individual. what it means to fight and discovering the importance of what you’re fighting for. for mwii, it’s about trust. the importance of knowing that your team has each others backs, the weight that it has between individuals. what happens when that trust is broken and how it’s found again through vulnerability, because that’s how you truly know you’re there for each other.

and then there’s mwiii..? you should let your sergeant kill a prisoner illegally so said prisoner, when he breaks out of maximum security prison, doesn’t kill your sergeant 4 years later? you should illegally kill people who piss you off (shepherd)? sure there’s the whole “never bury your enemies alive”, but where does that come in to play outside of the soap/makarov interaction? it’s definitely not a valid reason for price to kill an american general in his own office. they could’ve used it for graves if they wanted to take it a step further, but no— graves doesn’t betray the team again, for whatever reason. we’re expected to consider him just a much a member of the team as anyone else, and the narrative treats him as such outside of a few bristly reactions to his involvement.

secondly i take a huge issue with how characters were handled in mwiii. literally everyone is here, and there is no reason for several of them to be. alex felt like a cameo— you see him actually on screen for maybe 30 seconds. farah’s missions feel forced for the sake of her involvement. not that farah shouldn’t be in this game, but makarov’s flimsy reasoning for targeting the ulf is so clearly an excuse to involve her. it feels very random and transparent as a decision to reuse her character because she’s familiar. again with graves— why is he here? i still genuinely do not understand why they decided to retcon his death. it was a perfect arc for mwii to kill him, and him being alive adds absolutely nothing to the story. he has nothing to do in mwiii and there is zero reason for his involvement other than “people liked him in mwii and he has a cool accent.”

within the 141, it’s mostly rehashing of the growth/personality that each of them showed in previous games. none of them have an arc, except maybe price if you’re willing to call the *post credit scene* where he commits cold blooded murder a completion of an arc. gaz, soap, and ghost are static versions of themselves that simply are just … there for most of the plot. they’re not out of character or ruined, but none of them individually have anything going on that can’t be tied back to price.

i think a lot of it comes down to the way they tried to shoehorn mwiii into the original trilogy’s storyline. people loved those games, and nostalgia sells. i don’t think it’s a coincidence that makarov was a big marketing factor for this game— and that’s not to say that mw19 or mwii didn’t abuse that either, but in execution you can feel the difference. price, gaz, soap and ghost are all their own characters miles away from their original trilogy counterparts. makarov… isn’t. he’s a poorly written villain riding on the success of the original trilogy— he’s scary because he’s *makarov*, not because he’s a real threat. it’s cheap. the knockoff “no russian” mission felt insulting. it’s a callback with no real impact in the story, just simply “look! remember when we did this in 2009 and everyone loved it?”

and all of it culminates into a shit ending with shock factor that it tries to make you feel emotional. i’m not sad over this character death. i’m mad, because it’s unearned and lazy. i realize it’s a lot to ask a multi-billion dollar corporation to actually put effort into their stories, but… it’s such a let down when the previous games actually had at least an ounce of passion. i’m just still so disappointed with this game ruining what could’ve been a really interesting and unique story.

Terror Fest Theory (VIP Spoilers)

It has been ages since I have written a theory post, but I can’t get this theory out of my head and I want to write it down. This post contains spoilers up to chapter 8, so wide release players stay away (for now).

I have been trying to think of who the killer is and I had some feelings from the beginning but this chapter and hte coding switch, slotting the LIs into spots 1-4, helped me firm up my theory.

First, I don’t think there is one killer. I think there are two. But I think there were originally three. I think Destiny was part of the plot but got cold feet and her accomplices turned on her. I think Bex is one of the killers, for sure. I think she and Destiny were involved and they hatched the plan to launch both of their careers, Bex by covering the story and Destiny by surviving the attacks. And I think they recruited one more person.

Bex is definitely not dead. No body. A nose that could belong to anyone. MC is kinda dumb for just believing the text messages. But Bex is also not working alone. And I do think Destiny is really dead (although at first, I didn’t). I think Destiny was killed because she had second thoughts about the plan and I think that was either because the plan either involved pinning it on MC (although that is iffy because the first murders took place when they were in Cordonia) or because they planned for MC to be the final victim. But I think MC was lured home for a reason and I think we will eventually find out why. There was a plot point to MC taking Destiny’s phone, that phone is going to come in handy in the last act, I just know it.

So who is the accomplice? I think it is any of the four LIs. I think they each have motive and opportunity and it will be coded to whichever one ends up in the specific murderer spot. We know LI #4 is now dead. So that leaves 3 and shows that the second half of the story is coded to be adaptable and all the LIs can be switched out. And I think that goes for the killer. Meaning this book has four potential endings, which is kinda exciting.

Most likely it will be the LI in the #2 or #3 spot who is the killer. Someone we trust but not our main LI. However, I could make an argument for the LI. First there is film precedent (Scream, anyone?) and there have been some similarities to Scream, such as the focus on the MC’s virginity and them the losing it half way through the book that mad me wonder, and the LI romance confession in Chapter 8 has the achievement title “not that kind of book” which I thought was interesting, also you can get serious really quickly. A commitment by chapter 8 is pretty intense (although there has been precedent for that before, you have to lock into your LI early in TRM, for example) and I think there is a plot specific reason for it happening so early in this book.

So yeah, I could make a compelling argument to our LI being the killer, but do I actually think PB would have the guts to make the LI the killer? No. No, I don’t. I also don’t think they will kill off the LI. I mean, it would be awesome, and I would be here for it. But I don’t think that is what is actually happening. No, I think the killer is going to be either LI #2 or #3 and I think that whichever one isn’t the killer will either die or almost die (possibly being saved by our choices).

So, to sum it up: I think Bex is alive and is the main killer and that she and Destiny were an item and Destiny was part of the plot but got cold feet and I think one of the LIs is also involved, but which one will depend on your relationship with them.

Oh and bonus theory, I think the detective is a descendent of the prison guard and that is why he is so hostile towards us and I think that he is going to have a last act heroic moment where he overcomes his prejudice and stands up to the mayor and comes to our aid.

MadPat is quite a unique person

He’s half human and half demon

Never knew who his birth parents were

Mad was adopted by a man named William Afton from a young age, who later abandoned Mad altogether when William’s first biological child was born, named Micheal

He picked up his skill for inventing and building from William, or rather, William’s friend, Henry Emily

Henry offered to teach Mad to build

So that’s how he learned

After Mad was abandoned by William, he was already 17 years old

Mad had broken into a home to stay in

It was abandoned and basically entirely empty, so he decided to stay there until he could afford a home

Mad didn’t know he was half demon at all until he turned 23 years old

While he was building his precious flamethrower chainsaw (who he named Rex) one of the pieces of it malfunctioned, causing a fire in Mad’s basement which was where he built his creations

Mad grabbed his chainsaw from the flames, and to his surprise and shock… he didn’t get burned

Well, he did get burned, it just didn’t hurt

Mad couldn’t feel it

Which in his mind, negated the fact he was burnt in the first place

Were he fully a fire demon, then he would have full immunity to flames, but since he’s half human, he doesn’t feel pain from fire, it just burns him

Because of that he gets very reckless whenever anything involves fire

Mad got employed at a local Freddy Fazbear’s location, and quickly rose to the position of manager/boss

In general, Mad always disregarded things like laws

He killed and dissected animals as a child since he found it interesting and didn’t ever feel any remorse for it

He was just learning new things, who could fault him for it?

That later progressed to murder when he got older

He did a few dissections, but he found that he preferred the actual act of murdering humans more enjoyable

He has done many experiments on them, and loves to include fire as he can control it

Mad thinks that charred human flesh tastes pretty good, all things considered

He killed four kids after luring them from his Fazbear’s location

Mad was very surprised when they’d possessed the animatronic puppets that his restaurant used

He had treated them relatively well after they died since he couldn’t do anything about them possessing his puppets

Later hired Sol (Night Guard Mark) after Nyx (Night Guard Nate) left the restaurant

Leading to the events of FNaF the Musical

Mad now has burn scars over most of his body due to the fire at the end of Night 5, even if he couldn’t feel the fire burning him

Mad ended up in prison (which he quickly broke out of)

Now he’s looking for Nyx and Sol, to get his revenge on them

Although he does commit the occasional murder, arson, kidnapping and human experimentation while doing that

what was even the point of this whole story. the only character who has any sort of proper character arc is jihwa and he fucks off offscreen. there's this stupid elaborate arc where the love interest is framed for murder, but what the fuck does that matter when the love interest killed a guy right in front of the main character in like, chapter 1??? what the fuck do i care about this guy? he belongs in prison to begin with, even if the law caught up with him about this murder he didn't commit, he's still a murderer who belongs in prison anyway. he's also like 5 seconds from murdering what small amount of family the main character has, so why tf is whether or not he actually murdered the scholar important? he's capable of it anyway

spicy take time: Ace Attorney 5 is not THAT bad

Dual Destinies: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly -- An Opinionated Review (not spoiler free, hehe)

As I was progressing through the series, I noticed that fans really seemed to dislike Dual Destinies, so as I finished Apollo Justice, I was worried about what I was going to come across and, it wasn't terrible. I've begun to replay some of the game and compile some thoughts.

The Good

Characters

Whether it be the complicated, the quirky, or the downright enjoyable to be around, Dual Destinies has all sorts of new characters to fit this bill. Some of my favorites include:

Athena Cykes -- The newbie lawyer with a loud and colorful personality and a neat little game mechanic involving her being able to hear emotions Simon Blackquill -- The prosecutor on death row who's very… persuasive (why does he get to have a sword?) "Bobby Fulbright" -- The game's eccentric detective. While he's no Dick Gumshoe or Emma Skye, he actually managed to grow on me, making the twist that the final antagonist was disguised as him the entire time all the more impactful to me.

The Introductory Case

Case 5-1 is one of my favorite introductory cases after 2-1, AAI2-1, and TGAA1-1. Its twists and turns had me on edge the entire time. I've seen some crazy shit in Ace Attorney -- exorcisms, cross-examining animals, children that are victims of murder attempts -- but a terrorist bombing was not something I would expect, weirdly enough.

I also think it's fascinating how it's the only intro case to span over multiple days and the second to chronologically take place after the main filler cases (after AAI1-1).

And I really like how it ends by leaving these two questions in the back of my mind: "What's wrong with Apollo?" "Who exactly is Athena?"

Prosecutor Blackquill

Out of all of the prosecutors in the series, Blackquill has one of my favorite concepts. The idea of a prosecutor being able to continue his job while awaiting the death sentence for a crime he did not commit, but rather, took the fall for is just soooo… AAAAAAA. I love it. How he also utilizes psychological mind games opposite to Athena's own.

I was originally terrified of Blackquill and his unique "Silence!" callout, but as case 5 progressed, I actually almost cried learning Simon's true colors. How he willingly went to prison to protect a young Athena and Athena's mother, Metis', work, refusing to accept help despite Athena's and Aura, his older sister's, pleas. He was genuinely willing to be executed for the sake of protecting Athena.

Athena and Apollo's relationship, Apollo's Skepticism, and Athena's Trauma

Throughout the course of cases 2 and 3, it was demonstrated how Apollo and Athena grew to trust each other. To me, they gave off sibling energy, which was made even better by the fact that, in Greek mythology, Apollo and Athena are siblings (half-siblings, but siblings nonetheless).

So when Apollo started feeling skeptical towards Athena regarding the whole Clay situation, it kinda hurt, Apollo even willingly wearing a bandage over his eye to prevent himself from perceiving Athena's suspicious ticks. (I love this concept and wish more could have been done it.) And Athena had a past of her own that wasn't helping the situation that she herself wasn't even sure of, traumatized by the idea that she might have killed her own mother.

This is what I would say to be Dual Destinies' strongest feature.

The Phantom

Like I've mentioned before, the twist of "Fulbright" being the final antagonist really got to me. And his whole breakdown with him being in a mad panic, questioning who he really was before getting sniped, has to be one of my favorite breakdowns in the entire series (second to the exorcism)

Turnabout Reclaimed

The concept behind this DLC case is a fascinating one. The defendant being an… uhm… orca and the murder being an accident makes this case really unique.

3D Models

While the models take a bit to get used to, I think, ultimately, they weren't a terrible idea. I love the sprites but there are some things that the models did that the sprites couldn't -- and vice versa. And I believe it was a great gateway into what we got with The Great Ace Attorney and Spirit of Justice.

The Bad

Phoenix's Role

I have problems with Phoenix in this game in general. His model, his voice, but overall, I think the biggest downside about him in this game is his role. How him losing his badge was basically ctrl-z'ed and he's back to basically steal the spotlight. His role in Apollo Justice was great. He was there, but not on the front lines, helping Apollo from the side. I was hoping that, with the introduction of Athena, she'd get help from him like Apollo from Kristoph in his own game or Phoenix from Mia in the first game, rather than being essentially sidelined herself.

Yes. Dual Destinies is a Phoenix Wright game, but with how much focus it gives to Apollo and Athena and their… Dual Destinies… it's a bit frustrating with him in the picture as much as he is.

Turnabout Academy

I don't believe in the "3rd Case Syndrome" that goes around in the fanbase (4-3, 6-3, AAI2-3, and TGAA2-3 were pretty good). However… replaying Dual Destinies, I can't bring myself to replay this case. The concept was okay, but, that's all I can really say. The characters were… eh? I like Junie, Robin, and Mirriam, but Hugh is insufferable and what they did with Klavier was… (I don't wanna be harsh but)… ew. How Robin was treated before revealing she was a girl, was kind of gross (in the initial 2013 release). Overall, it was an… okay case. I don't really have much else to say about this case other than I didn't really enjoy it.

Turnabout Reclaimed

I love the concept, but that's about it. I had a bit of trouble staying awake while playing this one. It felt a little reminiscent of 1-5, which best sums up my feelings about it. The characters were okay and the idea is great, but this case is just… there.

The Ugly

Main Menu

That menu is boring. There's nothing... here. At least previous releases had the gall to put an image in the background, whether it be a courtroom or silhouettes of the main characters. I can't tell if that's supposed to be a bulletin board or a closeup of a basketball, but it's likely neither of those are right.

Voices

I understand replacing the older VA's because of cutscenes and all that, and I'm okay with Apollo's new voice, but when it comes to the other characters with NEW voices, they kind of miss the mark. Apollo and Phoenix sound virtually identical, Klavier sounds… wrong, and I don't think anyone told Edgeworth's VA that he's only 34 because he sounds twice that.

3D Models

When it comes to characters being translated into 3D, that's where the models miss. Apollo's, and Klavier's models are … not the best and Phoenix's is actually disgusting. They got a much-needed update with Spirit of Justice, but they don't compare to the beauty of their sprites.

Overall, I personally think that Dual Destinies is one of the weakest in the series, but it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It's different and takes a bit to get used to, but it's fun :)

The Review

I picked Weyward up on a whim and am so pleased that I did. Historical fiction mixed with magical realism and a dash of incredibly rich writing made it a real pleasure to read. The narrative weaves between three women across five centuries, deftly showcasing the myriad ways in which women demonstrate resilience and bravery under difficult circumstances.

Being totally honest, I often struggle with split narrative timelines in novels. I can’t be the only one who has found themselves bored with one section of a book, willing the boring chapters to end in order to get back to the characters I am invested in… right? Thankfully, Weyward’s leading ladies are all so fabulous and their stories so engaging, that I was invested in each timeline equally. This actually sped up my reading as the story progressed, as I wanted to find out how each character was doing in their timeline more and more desperately. If you want to read a moving story with wonderful characters that emphasizes the transformative power of nature, please pick this up!

Witch. The word slithers from the mouth like a serpent, drips from the tongue as thick and black as tar. We never thought of ourselves as witches, my mother and I. For this was a word invented by men, a word that brings power to those who speak it, not those it describes. A word that builds gallows and pyres, turns breathing women into corpses.

One thing I will say before really digging in to the review, is that there are a lot of trigger warnings for this novel (see above for a summary). Reading through the list, it may seem that this is a tome of sheer doom and gloom, but it actually didn’t feel that way to me. Obviously, a lot of the trigger warnings may be Hard Nos for some people, and that’s totally fair, however I found this story so engaging and the characters so strong, that the TWs didn’t beat me down as much as they could have. Being set across five centuries, this book explores a number of methods by which patriarchal societies abuse women.  From the outright cruelties of the 17th Century to the more insidious offences of modern society, there is a lot of violence and misogyny at work here. It can get difficult in parts, but I found myself uplifted by the women’s strength in the end.

Now, I’ve discussed how strong the characters are; let me properly introduce them to you! Kate, living in her 2019 timeline, wants to escape a violent partner and discover the truth about her family. Violet, in 1942 and the midst of the Second World War, wants to escape the societal confines and expectations of femininity and live a life she chooses. Altha in 1619 just wants to survive. I loved them all. I cared about them all. I may have even shed a tear or two over them (and books don’t make me cry super often). I particularly loved Violet and her sheer determination to live her own life. I really appreciated seeing her as a teen from her own perspective, as well as from Kate’s perspective looking back at Violet as an old woman. (I want grow up to be an eccentric old lady with the witchiest house in the world just like her!) The interlacing of their stories is so well conceived, it really feels like you’re seeing a cohesive timeline rather than random sections plonked together.

Perhaps one day, she said, there would be a safer time. When women could walk the earth, shining bright with power, and yet live.

There is so much witchcraft detail in this book, dropped in so sneakily and creatively, I just loved it! All the leading ladies have Witch Marks (which definitely need to be used in witchy stories more frequently), but they’re not overly emphasized… they’re just there and mentioned in passing in various subtle ways. The way the Familiars work is also super cool; not every animal can be a familiar, and they aren’t necessarily easily controlled, but they provide emotional support and do their witches’ bidding when needed. I especially loved the constant presence of the crows, which at first seem wild and dangerous, but eventually become as important to the plot as the leading characters as symbols of power. And I love, love, love how the magic stems so much from the witches’ connection to the natural world. It just felt so right to me.

One notable factor in Weyward for me was how deftly Emilia Hart wove historical facts into the narrative. From the Lancashire Assizes to the Pendle Witch Trials and King James I and his obsession with Witch Hunts, Altha’s timeline felt so based in history as to be almost visceral. This sort of thing really happened to living women. I was especially impressed by the use of the Great Comet of 1618; Hart definitely did her research in order to place her story firmly in the real world, with an additional magical touch.

There was something about us – the Weyward women – that bonded us more tightly with the natural world. We can feel it, she said, the same way we feel rage, sorrow or joy. The animals, the birds, the plants – they let us in, recognising us as one of their own. That is why roots and leaves yield so easily under our fingers, to form tonics that bring comfort and healing. That is why animals welcome our embrace. Why the crows – the ones who carry the sign – watch over us and do our bidding, why their touch brings our abilities into sharpest relief.

Weyward has become one of my favourite reads for 2024, and has 100% got a solid seat in my Top Ten of the Year. It is endlessly impressive to me that is was Emilia Hart’s DEBUT NOVEL. Seriously, my hat is off to her for creating a story that felt so real and so magical at the same time. I will definitely be reading more of her work as it is published. If my recommendation isn’t enough, Weyward also won Goodreads’ Best Historical Fiction title in 2023. And if you buy a physical copy of the book, you get a neat little flip book of a crow flying in the page corners. If all that doesn’t sell it to you, I don’t know what will.

*gasp* Kotoko's violent she would have even attacked Amane A CHILD- Is the same as people going *gasp* Haruka hurt animals. We're ending trial two exactly how we started it with people acting like information we were expressedly told trial one is a revelation. That was definitely never ever alluded to or blatantly shown/stated at all.

This will never not be a fucking hilarious response. Each trial without fail someone somewhere literally goes- *gasp* The people we were told are murderers actually do bad things?! Like, yes, we're in the making bad choices, doing bad things, no- I don't want to change everyone else is the problem and I'm right series. Everyone in Milgram is like honestly a very self-serving inconsiderate individual with commitments to their personal beliefs first and foremost.

They're all the embodiment of did I ask for other opinions mind your business or support my choices- If doing either of those things is too difficult for you, then die. So the whole highlighting they did bad things and pearl clutching is like super funny. Like yeah, what a croc coming from me, the person who highlights them doing the bad things the most possibly. Yet just because someone does bad things doesn't make them a bad person, and just because someone thinks a person is good doesn't make them incapable of doing bad things.

This isn't some vague or callout either. Honestly, it's perfectly natural to see someone do something suspect and react that way to it. Yet staying on that knee-jerk sensationalized reaction long-term doesn't allow for progress. Yeah people are mad that a character did a bad thing now what can we learn from it, what can we do to make sure it doesn't happen again in the series, and more importantly what can we learn from the characters in the series mindsets that will ultimately allow us as people to avoid making similar mistakes.

The best thing about Kotoko's character is one hundred percent that despite for how messy her work is she still believes she's doing what's necessary, that she's helping, and others are just afraid of progress or too wrapped up in their morals to do the objectively right thing. She fully embodies the phrase it's messy work, but someone has to do it. A mindset anyone can fall into. It's easy to believe that whatever outcome you're working towards is more important than what you do to get there. That just because the outcome is good and well intended that even if the path is messy, it will work out in the end.

It's easy for people to ignore the tangible harm they cause others in pursuit of what they believe is a just cause. I feel like that's something that's been an integral part of Kotoko's character from the start. So, while yes, I personally love highlighting the means she uses to get to that outcome and the issues with those means. I fully recognize she is not just her means, and she isn't the only prisoner who has used the ends they were seeking to excuse the things they did to get there.

The news of Yoongi is so blown out of porportion and the hate train or so called "dissapointment train" spreading in social media is too much for a crime that did not actually involve harming someone, like the news media did not blow the r*pe case of b*rn**g sun because it ruins the image of a company, people pay little attention to actual traumatic news but put much attention for a public figure doing something like a low level crime (for me its a low level crime, no one got hurt and yes the posibilities might end up hurting others but it never happened and that should matter), I literally thought he crash into someone and harmed people when in reality it is'nt like that he was just riding in a street lane parking infront of his own house stumbled because he is drunk, I understand the problem because on that drinking level is not suitable for driving, he underestimated that it was okay because it was just few meters of his house just parking the scooter, im not that dissapointed because of all the crimes that he might committed its just that, i do not agree with his complacency but im not mad about it, in fact im worried that he got really hurt when he fell since in the past he also got into an accident in his delivery job injuring his shoulder he got surgery in 2020 so i hope it did not affected his shoulder recovery, i care about him not only because he made songs that healed me but because he is human, a human who is not perfect but is not afraid to admitt and apologized to his mistakes, i even love him more as a person because of this news because he was honest and was ready to face the consequences of his actions, he is an actual role model because he knows his truth.

What I don't like about this news is not him but the people telling the news, the media that paint this news as a "big thing" there are so many hurtful news that needs to be paid attention to a lot instead of this news of a drunk guy who fell of his scooter by parking in front of his house.

If he was in prison for this, and inmates asking him of what made him ended up in the cell, it would have the same energy of the woman's reaction in the trial watching her fellow convict admitting for murder and she was evicted because of selling in the outside of a mall that was banning people from selling outside because it has fines and she could not pay the fines so she ended up in jail for months. If Yoongi could not pay the fines and would be like that woman then I don't know of what high level crimes his inmates did compared to him.

So Biden has commuted the sentences of all but three prisoners on Federal death row.

A bit of throat clearing and explanation for those not hip to the jargon, that's ONLY Federal prisoners. The President cannot commute the sentences of STATE prisoners. So everyone on death row in Texas et al. facing increasingly arcane methods of execution are regrettably still confronting that fate.

Commute also means to reduce the sentences. I doubt Tumblr needs this explained to it but you do see a few people here and there who confuse commute and pardon. So these former death row inmates are now getting life in prison.

You see a lot of people whose natural resting point is being against the death penalty but will say things like "kill all pedos" or "kill all rapists." I'm not going to wage a rhetorical war to persuade you dear reader that sexual assault, even against children, is something that deserves complicating or contextualizing. I don't know if these behaviors are "conditions" that can be "fixed." My gut feeling is that whatever is responsible for these things happening, the death penalty is not a very significant factor in a person making a conscious choice or giving into a primal instinct and committing these heinous acts.

Which is in part why the morality of the slow death, perhaps even torture by some definitions represented by life in prison vs execution for people who cannot be "fixed" is not actually where I situate my ABSOLUTE opposition to the death penalty.

Even for rapists.

Even for pedophiles.

Let me start with a question: what is the reactionary right's favorite accusation to hurl against its social enemies?

Pedophile.

Recall that poll that something like one in five of all Americans believe at some aspect of the QAnon conspiracy?

A core belief of QAnon is that there's a cabal of child abusing, child murdering occultists (and possible literal demons) instantiated at the heart of American power and predominantly on the left, but sometimes ex-right wingers that fall out of favor with the conspiratorial right like Liz Cheney get lumped in.

Now "some part" means that one in five may not agree with all aspects of the way I just characterized it, but belief in some version of it, however watered down, illustrates what I think the danger of the death penalty is. Look how readily humans are to believe in child sexual abuse allegations against people who irritate us with their baffling political and moral beliefs.

If there is an approved category of people who we are allowed to kill, then that is a category that can be weaponized against people who aren't actually guilty of that crime but fit the mental template that the accusers, prosecutors, jurists, judge, and the mob have for that category.

Pedophilia is real.

It is dangerous and sick. But the death penalty opens it up to being used as loosely and maliciously as "super predator" was. Think about how often you've encountered the story of a person about to be executed despite calls from even former prosecutors in some instances admitting that they got it wrong, the evidence was contaminated, new evidence has been discovered etc. etc. and that person is often executed anyway.

Remember when Elon Musk called a man trying to save children trapped in cave a "pedo guy?" Not only did this thin skinned CEO get big mad because someone correctly pointed out that his own Rube Goldberg scheme failed to achieve anything, Elon won the defamation suit that Vernon Unsworth brought against him. Now Elon seems to be a quasi "shadow president" whom Congressional Republicans are more afraid of than Trump himself since Elon has pledged to wield his fortune as a weapon to fuel primary challenges against anyone who crosses him. Now look, Elon's relationship with Trump and with the GOP may be doomed. There are heads of lettuce that outlasted formal and informal counselors to the President in Trump's first term.

But the point is that a man who wields the term pedo frivolously is adjacent to the highest law enforcement office in the country.

The death penalty is a leopard.

You cannot tame it.

There may be people in this world who deserve to have their face bit. Maybe you feel very confident in your ability to discern who should have their face bit.

But you cannot ever be certain that it will not solely bite the face of the people you think deserve it.

If you allow it to eat faces, it will eat your face.

Its only a matter of time.

The only way to be sure it won't is to not keep leopards as pets.

I found it a bit annoying at first but actually I quite like the way that the start of an episode reveals that what you saw at the end of the previous episode wasn't the whole picture. The last episode made it look like he got the text and then just left but nope he had a chat with his dad first

So I’m currently re watching Arrow and Flash and as soon as I I finish seasons 1 and 3 I’ll start super girl but re watching simultaneously has made me realize

3 laurel is the Arrows version of Iris and I hate her as well

More on Arrow. One of my problems with laurel is that she acts like she owns literally anything when she doesn’t and she demands respect she doesn’t deserve. When she started going around as Cannery after Sara died ( again ) she did it with no training then acted like she deserved a spot on Oliver’s team and in his Cave. Then later on tries to murder Malcom for essentially killing Sara but then gets mad Oliver took a prisoner and says “isn’t that crossing a line” 1st why are you still here??? 2nd their operation has nothing to do with you!! 3rd you were down to commit murder 10 minutes ago.

Thea honestly I wasted all my anger on Laurel so I won’t tear into her too much, right now, but her acting like she knows best when she actually knows nothing is getting annoying af.

fairy fairy fairy!!!! Your first kinktober 2023 fic got me screaming crying throwing up, it is so well-written!!!!!!!! I’m a real sucker for asylum-themed stories during the time when science was full of inhumane sht and women were considered mad when they don’t fit the stereotype, so perhaps it’s best to throw them in a mental institution. That lobotomy procedure was bone-chilling, you really did so well describing the scene and it really did convince me to also search where the rod should be inserted during the surgery (And it really hurts ugh pls tell me she at least passed out a few minutes bc of enduring too much pain SHDJDNND). The fic is so amazing AHHH though pls spare me bc i have some questions and i think it’s my tiny brain’s fault for missing a lot of details in the story >_<

1. reader may or may not have killed her partner bc of getting abused so she was sent to the asylum? Was she given the verdict of being a mad woman instead of going to prison bc someone pulled some strings?

2. Who is iwa really? He is a doctor, that’s for sure, but how did he know reader? Like what is their history?

As for your questions !!! I think that Iwa probably pulled some strings to get her to come down with “insane woman disease” instead of just normal judging of second degree murder. But then again, reader doesn’t remember anything :< did she even commit the crime? was it self defence? or was there maybe another option that the judges didn’t even consider?? who knows, if Iwa says she belongs in the insane ward, she probably does right? Hehehhe

And as for their history, you can have your own backstory or ideas! I left it open for you to interpret. But personally I think Iwa probably does have prior knowledge of the pretty, soon to be newlywed down the street. Maybe his crush has dragged on for a bit longer than he’d like to admit. Maybe he’s got his own house where a sweet little housewife that doesn’t have to worry about nothing at all would fit really really well- and well, isn’t he just so very lucky that you happened to kill your fiance, and that you’re able to be in his care 24/7.
