Live by the Divine Life and Gain the God of Resurrection to Live in Resurrection
When we donât live by our natural life but by the divine life, weâre in resurrection, and the issue is the Body of Christ; for us to live in resurrection, we need to know, experience, and gain the God of resurrection, not only know the living God but even more, the God of resurrection. Thank the Lord for not only resurrecting from the dead but even more, for being resurrection itself! Hallelujah,âŚ

still thinking about your post about your dusknoir and how the option of doing Anything But What He Did was always available to him yet he chose to walk along a path that only ended up hurting himself and quite literally all that he held dear to himself.
I think he really beats himself up over it because there's something so gut wrenching over the idea that a safer, better option that wouldve guaranteed a good outcome to you and those you hold dear, yet your narrow scope of reality and the fear that crippling you if you had stepped out of your designed path (assuming he did not already do that when adapting to the father figure ruse that he tried to pull) had you by the neck to the point where even the option that 'things did not have to go this way' was already not possible, and you had no choice but to go on. and now, dusknoir had no one but himself to blame for the cracks and strains he forced upon the two kids who looked up to him. the option to be with them, to save them, to shield them from him, yet he took it upon himself to be the knife that stabs them in the back when they willingly embraced his shine and the venom that reeks into their bodies when he tells them how much they had meant *little*, if *nothing* to him at all. he could've raised their spirits high, yet he proceeded to slam them down into reality and teach them the harsh lesson that nothing good comes out of a stranger with good intentions, even when that stranger made you feel as though you deserved to be loved. that you did not need to be so afraid, and that there was no shame in who you are. he was their light, and he burned so bright that he left them tearing and weeping in the darkness.

How do I feel??? đ¤đŁđ
Outwardly IâmâŚ.
(above image - Artist: Brooke Drake)
đľâđ§ââď¸đŁ
Outwardly, my physical body, is like a zombie or rag doll on the daily. Having constantly put myself back together. Living with health challenges, including mental illness, and then striving to best care for myself is so exhausting.
Inwardly IâmâŚâŚ
đ§đźââď¸đđ
Inwardly, Iâm now living with a mindset of optimism and excitement. It has been in my daily choice(s) for the past 20 yrs. Through surrounding myself with supportive and trustworthy people that spoke both encouragement and truth to me. Most of all, It put me on the path of healing and purpose. My spiritual walk with Jesus Christ is the center of it all. I choose to live in Hope, Joy & Love in Jesus name! Thank you â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸

Look if you're never read Benji Franx's column in The American Weekly Mercury The Busy-Body, specifically edition number four, you haven't fully felt the warm fuzzy joy of humans being people through time.
In this ye olde AITA reddit post, a shopkeep writes to the Busy-Body about a dear friend with all the awareness of a sociable potato, with two absolute feral children, visiting her and wreaking havoc in her shop way too often, and all she wants is to politely ask her to be more considerate, or to have the Busy Body obliquely intervene by writing a column about being Considerate While Visiting.
Highlights:
Why would you put it back, mystery woman??????
"if she would have been so kind as to have moderated her Visits to ten times a Day, and stay'd but half an hour at a Time..." TEN TIMES A DAY? HALF AN HOUR AT A TIME??
I love this conclusion, because it seems like she keeps getting cockblocked by her friend. (also note that "to make love to" does not mean "to have romantic sex with" like it does nowadays, it just means to flirt with.)
And Benji's very sassy first line in response:
Anyway there's a reason why Benjamin Franklin was such a popular writer at the time and that's because he was born with 20 Charisma.
Oh also spoiler alert, there's some period-typical casual racism about Turks and its about as appalling as one would expect from an 18th century white guy. It can't all be warm fuzzies.
#18th century#part of my researching for 18th century dialect tbh#written word is different from spoken cadence but its a solid starting point#Benjamin Franklin#The Busy-Body#Man literally stood up#said âChrist y'all are way too serious and boring. I'm going to anonymously snark on all of you and it is going to be so damn entertainingâ#and was proven right decade after decade#RIP Benji Franx you would have loved trashy reality TV#RIP 18th century you would have loved trashy reality TV

accidentally walking in on bff!matt while heâs changing..
oh, you were so pissed off. so incredibly pissed off.
you couldn't believe how chris had the fucking audacity to throw away your lashes, despite you repeatedly telling him to be careful, and to keep them on their table until you came back to get them. your favorite pair, too.
it wasn't uncommon for you to stay at their house to sleep, and that you left pieces of your things around like an incomplete puzzle, which will probably remain so. but never, never in the fuckin history of your friendship, one of the three had lost or just thrown away something of yours. and when it happened to your beloved eyelashes, you knew for sure that you would have loved to commit a murder.
the wheels in your head were spinning non-stop in the evil creation of a plan against chris, all while you were walking briskly towards matt's room.
âi think itâs time for you to beat chrisâs ass every fuckinâ dayâ you said with a huff escaping your glossy lips, opening his door â swinging it fully â without even glancing inside before doing so. only when you looked up you realized the fact that the boy was half naked in front of you. damn.
you stopped working for a few seconds too long, looking stupid in matt's eyes who was simply trying to change. your mouth wide open, a light shade of red dusting your cheeks as if a wave of freezing cold had passed through your soft skin like a caress, but in reality it was just the embarrassment of having caught your best friend in such a state.
his dark hair looked even thicker when wet, dripping from a shower you could tell he'd just taken. he was holding a t-shirt in his hands that he hadn't had time to put on, in fact, his chest was completely exposed to your eyes that betrayed your desire to just disappear from earth â traveling all over his body as if you were waiting for nothing else. his tattooed arm seemed even more beautiful in that context, and you found yourself sighing as you searched for something to say.
the gray sweatpants that were pulled down low enough to show the elastic of his calvin klein underwear, a v-line that you would love to touch with your tongueâ "i'm sorry" you cleared your throat, fighting the urge to slap yourself.
his reaction surprised you, as he simply chuckled and finally put that shirt on. "what were you saying âbout chris?" matt quickly changed the subject, tilting his head as he looked at you intently. you shrugged in response, the urge to kill his brother suddenly gone. christ, you were too embarrassed to even breathe at that moment.
matt seemed to notice, and leaned in slightly as a smirk tugged at the corners of his pink lips. "don't tell me you're suddenly shy" he taunted, tortured you just for the fun of it. "you've only seen me shirtless, you haven't ended up in my sheets just yet" he added, making your eyes widen as your hand automatically moved to slap his chest. covered.
"shut up. you better shut up or chris won't be the only one to die today"
"i just have to undress and you'll change your mindââ another slap. in the face.

Jackson! Joel Miller x Pregnant! Female Reader
snapshots masterlist
summary: When you finally start to show, Joel has a tough time with it as the reality sinks inâheâs going to be a father again.
warnings/tags: 18+ ONLY, MINORS DNI. (TW) PREGNANCY. established relationship. no mention of readerâs age, however in other works for this universe, it is implied she is younger than Joel, her specific age will never be stated so do with that what you will. brief descriptions of a pregnant womanâs changing body, brief mention of morning sickness, mention of breastfeeding (it only comes up in a conversation very briefly) these subjects can possibly be triggering, especially mentions of a changing body, so while i try to handle everything with the utmost care, i still ask that you proceed with caution. domesticity, reader enjoys taking care of her family, ellie is a little shit, grumpy joel, heâs sort of a dick at first? but only because heâs working through some feelings so letâs forgive him, okay?
word count: 3.5k
a/n: this is part of the snapshots universe, but it could absolutely be read as a standalone too. minimal editing, this has been sitting in my drafts and i did a quick edit during my lunch hour, so please excuse any mistakes.
âShit.â
You almost canât believe your own two eyes. Staring at your reflection in the large, oval shaped mirror hanging over the porcelain bathroom sink, your gaze widens in complete surprise. âJesus Christ,â you mutter, turning to the side. It takes your brain about a good minute or two to process, really process, the way that your belly strains against the thin, white cotton of your camisole. It had seemingly swollen overnightâbecause it hadnât been this prominent the day before, had it?
Over the last few months, thereâd been changes.
Some subtle and some not so subtle.
âEllie! Stop fucking staring at them,â youâd scolded the teenager late one evening during yours and hers weekly game night. For as hard as you tried focusing on what move you should make next, it was hard to concentrate on the chessboard in front of you when you could feel the way her eyes were fixed on your breasts. âI mean it! Quit staring at my boobs, you little shit.â
She held up her hands, her mouth full of popcorn.
âHey, in my defense, theyâre just fucking there, man. If anything, theyâre fucking staring at me, okay?â
During your chess rematch the following week, you had accidentally knocked one of your pawn pieces off of the table. When youâd stood up and bent over to pick it up, she had made the observation that your butt seemed to have gotten a little bigger too.
âBet Joelâs liking these changes,â Ellie had smirked. âIt sure as hell explains why the headboardâs been banging against the wall more than usual lately.â
You threw the pawn at her, smiling in satisfaction when it bounced off her forehead and landed into her glass of lemonade.
One part of your body, however, hadnât changed.
Not until now.
âHon, trust me, you have nothing to be worried about,â Maria had assured you with confidence when you had brought up your concerns about your stomach. âEvery woman, and every pregnancy, is different. I didnât start showing until I was around six months, remember?â
âI guess youâre right.â Youâd been around four months, then. âDoesnât help that I havenât felt the baby move.â
âYou will,â Maria had promised. âJust be patientâ
Biting your lip, you place a hand on your belly.
Itâs always been one of the softer parts of you, but now, itâs firmed into a perfect, round bump.
âMaybe soon Iâll feel you move,â you murmur, giving it a gentle pat. You tug the lace hem of your camisole down as far as it can go and then pull at the elastic waistband of your blue, terry cloth shorts.
Shutting off the lights in the bathroom, you slip out into the bedroom where you find that Joelâs still tangled up in the sheets, fast asleep. He had been assigned to the afternoon patrol route todayânormally an early riser, if he was still snoozing, it meant that he really needed the rest. Deciding it was best to let him keep sleeping for a little while longer, you quietly tiptoe out of your shared bedroom and head downstairs into the kitchen.
After making yourself a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice, and one for the kid as well, you prepare the coffee maker for Joel. You spoon dark roast grounds into the filter and set the timer for the coffee to start brewing in thirty minutes.
He should be up by then, you think, pulling a basket of eggs out of the refrigerator.
Youâre starting to get used to this. Domesticity.
Despite your protests, Maria had made the decision to pull you off patrol that same afternoon you had shared the news of your pregnancy. âIâm putting you on leave,â sheâd told you. âEffective immediately. I donât want to see you outside of these walls. Got it?â
âThatâs not fair, Maria. You were out on patrol untilââ
One stern glare from her had shut you right up.
âFine.â
Sure, you missed it and looked forward to the day when youâd be able to get back into the saddle with your rifle in hand, but this way of life had grown on you. Certainly a lot more than you thought it would.
You enjoyed taking care of the house. Packing Ellie her lunch for school and checking her homework. Having a nice a meal on the table for the three of you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home instead of having to go down to the crowded mess hall for supper because you and Joel were both always much, much too tired after a long day out on patrol to bother with cooking.
With the baby due to arrive in the winter, looking after your little family had become your purpose, and you did not mind it one bit.
As strips of bacon sizzle in one pan on the gas powered stove, you crack a couple of eggs into another, knowing the kid is already on her way downstairs. You can hear the sound of her old, tattered low top sneakers that you have been trying to throw away for almost a year now squeaking on the kitchen tiles just as you finish plating her breakfast.
âMorning!â Ellie pipes, the loud plop of her backpack into a chair prompting you to turn around. âWhatâs for breaâwhoa! Holy shit!â Her brown eyes widen in shock when she sees you and her jaw drops. âDude.â
âEllie,â you say her name warningly as you walk over to the table. âDonât.â
âYouâre bigger!â
With a playful glare, you set her plate down, along with her glass of orange juice. âThanks a lot, you little jerk.â You feign offense. âYouâre making your own eggs from now on.â
âFuck, Iâm sorry.â Ellieâs cheeks flush a shade of red and she squirms, sputtering apologetically, âI swear, I donât mean it like that at all. Itâs just, your stomach, it didnâtâyou didnât look like this last night, you know?â
Sheâs fucking lucky that your raging hormones decided to take the morning off duty.
âYou look different. I mean, you look greatââ
âEllie?â
âYeah?â
âJust shut up and eat.â
âDeal.â
She shoots you a sheepish grin and sits down, scarfing down her food in her usual manner.Â
âYou get your fractions homework done?â
âYeah.â Ellie huffs, rolling her eyes. âTook me forever. I was up until fucking midnight.â
Amused, you offer, âWant me to check your work?â
âSure.â
As Ellie inhales the rest of her breakfast, you pull out a green, single subject notebook from her backpack and look over her homework for miscalculations.
âSo, uh, how are you feeling?â she asks after a minute.
âIâm feeling alright. I think the morning sickness finally stopped, so canât complain.â Shrugging, you close the notebook and stick it into her backpack. âYou did good, kid. Only got two problems wrong.â
âMan, I really wish we knew whether itâs a boy or girl,â Ellie mumbles through a mouthful of scrambled eggs. âWhat do you want to have, anyway?â
âIt doesnât matter to me, Ellie,â you answer, honestly. Clocking the skepticism on her face, you laugh and say, âItâs true. As long as the babyâs healthy, thatâs all I care about.â And you mean it. As an expectant mother in the post outbreak world where medicine is scarce, supplies are limited, and the closest thing you have to a hospital is the townâs old clinic, the only thing you can hope for is the smooth, safe delivery of a healthy child.
Before she can say anything, you both catch the sound of Joelâs heavy boots as he descends the staircase.
She quirks an eyebrow. âUh, has Joel seen you yet?â
Grimacing, you shake your head. âNo.â
âWell, I donât wanna be here for all that awkward,â Ellie says, chugging the rest of her orange juice. She stands up and snatches up her backpack, along with her lunch bag, which youâd packed for her earlier that morning. Just as sheâs about to whirl around on the heel of her sneaker and make a run for the front door, she pauses, watching as you make your way back over to the stove to light another flame. âUnless you want me to be?â
âIâll be fine, Ellie,â you assure her. âGo on, get to school. Maybe youâll be on time to class for once.â
âIf you say so.â She wishes you luck and then bolts out of the kitchen, throwing a quick goodbye at Joel on the way out. âSee ya later, old man!â
Nervously, you turn around and start cracking another two eggs into the pan. Thereâs no telling how heâs going to react.
Joelâs been fairly supportive since youâd found out you were pregnant, considering how unplanned it was. But you know him like the back of your own hand, and you know, despite the numerous times heâs denied it, that it has been weighing heavily on him. Each time youâd try to sit down to talk to him about it, he would brush you off and insist he was fine. But he wasnât fine.
And you wish he would spit it out and tell you why.
In your periphery, you notice the stained glass butterfly he had hung in front of the window above the sink, the ornament catching and refracting the sunlight. Flecks of color dance across the walls in captivating patterns, brightening the space. You think of the sweet little girl heâd hung it for, the little girl he rarely talks about, that he keeps tucked away safely in his memory.
You bite back a small sigh.
By now, youâve learned not to push him. Especially not about what he was feeling. He would tell you when he was ready.
âWho the hell lit a fire under her ass this morninâ?â Joel asks gruffly as he walks into the kitchen. âShe ainât ever this fuckinâ eager to go to school.â
âNot sure,â you reply in the most nonchalant tone you can muster as you use a spatula to scramble the eggs. Transferring them onto a plate, you add three strips of bacon, and then pour his coffee. âI have your breakfast ready, Joel. Have a seat.â
You hear a chair scrape against the tile.
âI keep tellinâ you I can make my own breakfast, darlinâ.â
âAnd I keep telling you I donât mind making it for you,â you quip, and you hear him grumble something under his breath.
Inhaling a deep, calming breath through your nose, you take the plate of eggs and bacon in one hand, and his cup of coffee in the other. Your fingers grasp the handle of his ceramic, owl mug in a near death grip. You exhale slowly, and then turn around to face him.
He sees your swollen middle and stiffens in his chair.Â
The tension is instantaneous. Palpable.
Uncomfortable.
Awkwardly, you shift from one foot to the other.
âYour belly,â Joel murmurs, a visible tick in his jaw as his gaze drags over your midsection. âSâbigger.â
âYeah. It is. Guess Iâm going to have to start trading for maternity clothes soon,â you remark, shuffling over to the table. Setting down the plate and mug of coffee in front of him, you take a seat across the table. Your eyes try desperately to meet his, but they refuse. Thereâs no way for you to decipher what heâs thinking. You let out a small, nervous laugh. âCan you please say something?âÂ
He lightly clears his throat. âIâll take you to Main Street on Saturday,â he tells you, picking up his mug. âIâve got the day off from patrol. Iâll, uh, pick through some of my own things and see what I donât need so we can make a trade for some clothes.â He pauses, then offers quietly, âIn the meantime, you can wear my shirts. They might be more comfortable for you.â
You flash him a grateful smile. âThank you, Joel.â
Sipping his coffee, he continues to avoid your gaze.
âMhm,â is all he says.
Your smile falters.
Itâs the middle of August.
The afternoon heat is sweltering. Unforgiving.
âJesus, itâs a fuckinâ scorcher,â Tommy sighs, glancing over towards the lake where his mare, Maxine, is taking a drink beside his brotherâs stallion, Phoenix. His raven curls are damp with sweat, plastered to his forehead. âHotter than the devilâs fuckinâ balls out here, ainât it?â
Heâs met with silence.
Looking over his shoulder, he sees Joel leaning against a tree, his rifle in hand as he stares at the Grand Tetons in the distance almost like heâs in a trance. âJoel?â
Blinking furiously, Joel shakes his head. âSorry, you say somethinâ to me just now?â He asks in a daze, pushing away from the lodgepole pine. âWe headinâ out?â
âYouâve been actinâ real strange all afternoon,â Tommy observes, walking towards him with his own gun slung over his shoulder. âEither the heat is startinâ to get to you, or youâve got somethinâ on your mind, big brother.â
Joel hesitates. His dark eyes flit to the other side of the lake where the other members of their afternoon patrol group are refilling their canteens with water.
âSâalright,â his younger brother says. âDonât worry âbout them. Canât hear us.â
Joelâs chest heaves with a heavy sigh. âShe popped.â
âHuh?â
âHer belly finally popped. Sheâs showinâ now.â
Amused, Tommy lightly shakes his head. âYâshouldnât be so surprised, Joel. Was âbout time,â he remarks with a shrug. âWhat is sheâlike six months along now?â
âSheâll be six months in a couple weeks.â Joel wipes the perspiration off his brow with the back of his hand and sighs once more. âLook, I ainât stupid, Tommy. I knew it was bound to happen sooner or later, but it still caught me by surprise. When I saw her, it became real for me. Sheâs got my kid in there. Iâm gonna be a dad again.â
âYouâre scared.â Itâs not a question, itâs a statement.
âShitless,â Joel confesses, feeling his chest tighten.Â
âWhat are you afraid of?â
Joel almost laughs.
He doesnât know where to start.
Heâs afraid of everything.
âAll of it, Tommy. Iâm afraid for her, havinâ to give birth with no medicine,â he tells him, his voice breaking. âIâm afraid I wonât remember what to do with a newborn or that I wonât know how to help her durinâ those first few monthsââ
âThis ainât your first rodeo,â Tommy reminds him. âYou did it once, and you did just fine, Joel.â
âThat was over three fuckinâ decades ago. And it was a different world. If Sarahââ He stops, taking a second to catch his breath. The image of his daughterâs little face flashing in his mind feels like a violent punch to the gut. Even after all this time, it still knocks all of the wind out of his lungs. âWhen her mom had trouble breastfeedinâ her, I could head to the grocery store and buy her baby formula. If she got a real bad fever, I could load her up in the truck and drive her to the emergency room.â He glances down at his broken watch. âBesides, I was a lot younger, then. And I wasnât half fuckinâ deaf like I am now. When Sarah would wake up cryinâ in the middle of the night because she needed a diaper change, Iâd hear her. What if I canât hear my own kid cryinâ?â
âJoelââ
âIâm in my fifties. What if I canât keep up because Iâm too fuckinâ old?â
Tommy reaches out, clapping a hand onto his shoulder.
âBrother, I need you to take a fuckinâ breath,â he says, chuckling softly. âYouâre puttinâ the weight of the world of your shoulders right nowâyou need to put some of it down. Look, we might not have everythinâ we used to before the world ended, but we make do with what we do have. Considerinâ just how many growinâ families we have and how many little ones weâve got runninâ around our town, Iâd say itâs workinâ out pretty fuckin well.â He gives his shoulder an encouraging squeeze. âAnd as far as your ability to be a good dad, youâve still got it, Joel. You know what to do, and so does she. Iâve seen her in action with my little boy, and it seems like sheâs already got those maternal instincts, yâknow?â
âYeah, she does,â Joels agrees quietly, thinking of how you had stepped up to help him care for Ellie.
âTrust me, between the two of you, itâll be alright.â
He peers at him. âYou really believe I still got it in me?â
âI do.â Tommy smiles. âYou never stopped knowinâ how to be a father, Joel. Youâre gonna be just fine.â
Their patrol shift extends into the evening, turning into a double, and itâs late when he gets home.Â
âWhat the hell are you still doinâ up?â Joel asks when he finds Ellie sitting at the kitchen table, cursing to herself as she flips through the stale, yellowing pages of an old life science text book.
âWhat does it fucking look like, man?â
âShouldnât have waited until the last minute, kiddoââ
Ellie holds up a hand and cuts him off.
âSave the lecture for another time, dude. Iâm busy.â
Joel rolls his eyes. âFinish up and get to bed. Sâlate.â
Without waiting for some smartass response, he turns on the heel of his boot and then heads upstairs to your shared bedroom. He flips on the lights only to find that youâre already in bed, fast asleep, wearing nothing but one of his t-shirts and a pair of panties. He toes off his boots and leaves them by the door, being as quiet as he possibly can as he rummages through his top drawer for some clean boxers to sleep in.
He slips into the bathroom where he takes a quick, hot shower, scrubbing off that dayâs sweat, dirt, and grime. After heâs dressed and his sopping wet, salt and pepper curls are haphazardly towel dried, Joel walks back out into the bedroom where he switches off the lights and climbs into bed next to you.
He lays on his side and heâs just about to close his eyes when he feels a light shift beside him. You roll over and curl into him, your belly pressing up against his curve of his spine.
He stiffens, freezing as if someone had just placed the barrel of their pistol against his back, their finger over the trigger.
Christ, get a damn grip, he thinks silently to himself.
Joel thinks about that morning in the kitchen.
He knows his reaction had hurt you. Or rather, his lack of a reaction. His shitty ways of coping arenât your fault, and his struggle to come to terms with your pregnancy sure as hell isnât your fault, either. He owed it to you to try harder to be the man you needed.
The man you both needed.
Joelâs train of thought comes to a screeching halt when he feels a soft flutter against his middle of his back, the spot right where your tummy is nestledâdid the baby just move?
He lies still, waiting to see if he feels it again, and when he doesnât, he rolls over to face you, causing you to stir.
âJoel?â you mumble his name, sleepily. âWhat timeâ?â
âShh,â Joel soothes, pulling you into his bare chest. He kisses your temple. âSâokay, baby. Go back to sleep.â
He doesnât have to tell you twice.
Within seconds, youâre asleep again, snuggled into him and snoring softly.
Lifting a hand, he hesitates, then rests it on your belly.
He waits.
And waits.
And waits.
And waits.
Until the minutes turn into hours.
Until dawnâs light filters in through the lace curtains.Â
Until he finally feels that little flutter again.
He feels it against the palm of his hand. Faint, nothing more than a brief whisper against his skin, but there is no mistaking it.
Heâd just felt the babyâs movement.
Thereâs a sudden shift.
Tense muscles that had been painfully wound up since the moment youâd mentioned to him your period was a week late back in the spring loosen slightlyâthe breath he had been holding since heâd picked up that positive pregnancy test from the bathroom counter finally falls from his lips, fanning over yours.
His fears, his worries, his uncertainties about what lies ahead, theyâre all still there, of course, but he finds they are now accompanied by a glimmer of hope, a sliver of optimism that maybe, just maybe, Joel doesnât have to be as afraid as he is.
Joelâs eyes glaze over your face, warmth radiating in his chest when you breathe a little a sigh of content in your sleep as he gently rubs your stomach through his shirt.
With his hand still splayed over your belly, he closes his eyes and begins to drift off, falling into the most decent sleep heâs had in the last few months.
Maybe his brotherâs right.
Maybe he will be just fine.

I'm thinking about emotional sex with Logan
I'm talking about those deep rolls of his hips that have you sobbing into his silk pillows because you're stretched so good that you can hardly remember why you were upset in the first place.
It's the type of fucking that has you shivering beneath him and trembling with each of his thrusts, trying to grasp onto some form of reality to ground yourself back to earth again.
It's the type of fucking he gives you when you can't tell him what it is you need. When you're choking on your tears, too tired from crying and exhausted from the mental fog you've been in.
He keeps you there. Keeps you in a headspace that reminds you where you are.
You keep your hands over your face, tits rocking with your body as he rolls his hips into you.
You're still stuck there â replaying the moments you'd almost been struck with a flying piece of steel, nearly the size of a car.
And Jesus christ it'd missed your neck by half an inch though the thought of dying terrified you, it was Logan's reaction to it that made you realize just how fragile you were in comparison to him.
Logan's voice breaks through the fog, "Can you look at me?" He asks from above you, giving you a gentle stroke to your clit.
You're urged to shake your head 'no' for a moment before dropping your hands from your face to your chest.
Logan smiles down at you, "There she is."
You let out a soft and weak moan when he slides your thigh over his shoulder, nearly pressing your knee to your chest.
He's much closer to you at this angle, his breath tickling your lips as you both pant into one another.
His cock grazes the spongey patch of your cunt and your neck cranes as you shiver out a choked gasp.
"Haa... mph." You're cut off by Logan slipping his free hand beneath your neck, supporting your head and tilting you forward.
"Look at me â there we go, hey pretty girl."
You swallow the lump in your throat, forcing a tearful smile before you're reduced to a sobbing mess.
Logan understands. He always does.
Understands in the way he presses a soft kiss to your forehead, letting your leg slip from his shoulder and gently placing your head back onto the sheets before guiding your arms around him.
He ruts into you, the veins of his cock push against your walls deliciously, pulling a moan from your lips.
Logan meets you in a slippy kiss, slipping his hand beneath your head again to keep you somewhat upright.
"Whadd'you need, bubba?" His voice is soft against your lips.
You nearly choke on your words, trying to force them up your raw and swollen throat.
"Need you." You finally manage, and the mental wall seems to chip some, "Want you."
Logan's eyes soften at that, thrusts into your heat turning into something far more viscerally raw than the simplicity in an attempt to distract you from what had happened to you out in the field.
"Want you, Lo," you say again, tears bubbling over your cheeks.
He nods, "M'right here, not goin' anywhere." He kisses you again.
His dark bangs stick to his forehead, and his side burns tickle the skin of your cheeks.
You're close and you know Logan can tell by the way he guides your legs to hook over his hips, angling his thrusts to roll his hips at the spot that makes your eyes roll into the back of your head and your nails dig into his tan skin.
A pinched whine rolls up the back of your throat and Logan presses a kiss to your lips before pressing your foreheads together and whispering "Cum fr'daddy, bubba."
The swell of his cock stretching against your gummy walls is enough to send both of you over the edge â Logan spilling into you as your walls tighten around his girth.
The two of you don't move, only panting into eachothers mouths.
You let out a soft giggle, readjusting your legs around his hips and pulling him deeper into you with a moan.
Logan presses a kiss to the top of your head, his hand running down your back in soft circles.
Logan rolls you both further onto the bed, pulling you on top of him as you settle into the bedsheets.
He's hot beneath you, and you can hear the drum of his heart beat in an almost harp-like rhythm of an echo against his adamantium ribcage.
It reminds you where you are. That you're okay.

insp by this right here, by @septicsoldier13. thank you for the prompt lovely! :))
-
They were short on bills this month.
Logan's shitty job at some scummy bar didn't exactly leave him rolling in cash (not to mention the seventy dollars he was docked for drinking the supply), Wade hadn't made all that much in commission, and Al's disability cheque didn't stretch far.
Rent was covered, so was water and electric, but that left heat unpaid.
Logan figured it wouldn't be a big deal. It was July- and there was a pretty intense heatwave hitting the city currently. They likely wouldn't need the heat for the next month anyway.
The apartment was chilled, but it wasn't cold by any means, which was why he was confused when he got home one evening and Wade was walking around making dinner with a blanket draped over his shoulders, and what looked to be two sweaters on, alongside thick sweatpants.
Logan was sweating just looking at him.
"I know you're pissed I got docked the alcohol money, but aren't you overplaying it a little, bub?"
Wade jumped at his voice, clearly not hearing him enter. The blanket dropped to the kitchen floor, and the merc looked mildly embarrassed.
"I was... cold," he said quietly, and it was... odd. There was no jokes, none of the usual outrageous comebacks, and Wade was just staring at the blanket now crumpled on the floor, almost with a fucking longing expression, and Logan would admit that often the idiots jokes flew right over his head (he wasn't exactly caught up with the last fifty years of media), but he really didn't get this one.
"You were cold? It's not hot in here but it's not cold," Logan pointed out, pretty much over Wade's dramatics.
He'd had a long shift at work, split up about four fights, kicked three people out and chased two couples trying to fuck in the filthy bathroom all between making stupid drinks as his own fingers itched for alcohol.
All to say, he really didn't have the energy for whatever dumb joke this was a part of.
"You're gonna give yourself heatstroke, and you look fucking ridiculous," he deadpanned, and Wade shrugs, doesn't say anything, which makes something heavy settle in Logan's gut.
Whatever, not his problem, right?
He left to go shower.
//
Wade had stripped down into sweats and a single sweater by the time they retire to the couch.
Logan is in his vest and flannel pyjama pants, and he's warm, but he doesn't mention Wade's layers this time.
The TV is on, some shitty episode of some shitty reality show Wade insists he has to watch, and Logan's focusing on it, until he's not.
His attention wanders over to the merc sat on the other end of the couch. It's not uncommon, Logan tends to spend more time watching Wade react to whatever dumb shit is on rather than watch it himself, for reasons he doesn't have the energy to analyse.
Somethings wrong.
Because Wade isn't watching the TV either. His eyes are distant, staring at the floor, and he's shivering violently, teeth practically chattering as he curls in on himself, knees hugged to his chest, and it's like he's...
"You're cold," Logan concludes aloud, but this time the words hold no frustration, because he'd seen Wade be committed to jokes before - but never on this scale. It's not a joke, or some sort of prank at Logan's expense.
Wade nods, and Logan is up and crouching in front of him immediately, sticking a hand against his forehead. Wade practically leans into his body's warmth, shuddering, and jesus christ - the mercs skin is like ice.
"The hell? Are you sick? Can you even get sick?" Logan touched the exposed skin of Wade's wrist, and sure enough - it was freezing.
Wade laughed softly, "I'm always sick, it's just... another side effect," he explained, and it took Logan a minute to recall what the cause of Wade's scars was. The cancer.
"But... your mutation, that stupid programme, I thought it cured you," Logan frowned.
"Not... cured. Just sort of put it on the back burner. It can't kill me, because my body is constantly regenerating the cells it kills, but it's there, and sometimes the symptoms hit a bit harder than usual," Wade explained, looking self conscious, as if this was something Logan would mock him for.
"Why the fuck didn't you say something when we sacrificed the heating this month?"
"We needed it the least-"
"I would've found a fuckin' way if I knew you'd suffer! I'm going straight down there tomorrow, I'll use my tip money to pay it," Logan stated, and Wade's eyes widened.
"No, peanut, you're saving that up for your motorcycle-"
"Fuck that, I'm not having you be uncomfortable in your own home," Logan huffed, "now wait here," he tossed a blanket from the chair over to Wade, then headed to their bedroom.
He headed to Wade's set of drawers first, but pivoted to his own. His hoodies were bigger - more fabric, more warmth, right? Definitely. He didn't just want to see Wade wrapped up in his clothes. That would be fucking dumb, because he wasn't a thirteen year old girl with a school crush.
He grabbed the obnoxiously pink Hello Kitty blanket from their bed too, and then stuck into Al's drawers and grabbed the hot water bottle she used when her back was giving her a hard time. He grabbed one of her heating pads from the medication cupboard too, making a note to buy her some more the next time he did their grocery run.
A few minutes later, items in hand and hot water bottle sufficiently warmed, he reentered the living room.
Wade had the blanket over his lap, but Logan could still see the slight tremble of his shoulders, as much as he was now trying to hide it.
His stomach twisted with guilt for his earlier words.
Logan sat beside him, "lift you're shirt up, just for a minute," he ordered as he opened the heat pad.
"At least buy me dinner first, or I'll kiss and tell. Who am I kidding? If we kiss I'm definitely telling, I'll go on the local news-" Wade's usual tirade of rambling was somewhat comforting, not that Logan would ever tell him that, but even so it's usual flow was lost behind the chattering of teeth.
"Wade," Logan interrupted, trying for exasperated but knowing he probably fell a bit short, "Shirt up, bub," he repeated.
Wade still looked hesitant, staring at him like he'd lost his mind, and Logan sighed, grabbing the hem of the sweater and doing it himself, using his other hand to stick the heat pad on.
"What are you- oh," Wade shivered again, arching his back a little into the heat source.
It only took a second for Logan to reboot his brain, and he quickly dropped Wade's shirt.
"Here," he shoved the hoodie, blanket, and hot water bottle into his lap, and Wade stared at the collection, and the tiny tug of a smile made Logan's heart jump a little in his chest.
"Awh peanut, you're the sweetest," he gushed, and it was supposed to be a tease, he knew that, but there was also something genuine there.
"Just warm yourself up," Logan muttered in response, avoiding his gaze.
He returned back to his seat, occasionally glancing over to Wade. The merc settle back down, both blankets wrapped around him, drowning in Logan's hoodie, the hot water bottle hugged to his chest.
He looked... cute, his nose and eyes visible beneathe the layered cocoon.
Logan did go back to focusing on the show, but he didn't stop his sideways glances, and it didn't take long to notice Wade was still shivering a little.
"Are you still cold?"
"No-"
"Wade," Logan warned, practically growled in his direction, and the younger man sighed.
"It's not... I know I shouldn't be, it's just... weird. It's like it's embedded into my fucking bones, I can't..." Wade trailed off, and he sounded miserable.
"Just come here, you dumbass," Logan said, rushing the words out before he could change his mind.
And if Wade looked at him like he was crazy earlier, now he was regarding him as if he'd grown a second head.
"You've done more than enough, Lo. I just need to get my shit together-"
It wasn't up for debate, and Logan wasn't fucking debating it. He grabbed Wade and yanked him closer, earning a yelp of surprise.
He made quick work of pulling him in close, an arm wrapped around his shoulders and dragging him into his body heat.
"Logan, you really don't need to-"
"Shut up and watch the TV," Logan grumbled, staring pointedly at the screen as to not meet the eyes burning holes into him currently.
Wade did give in eventually. He snuggled down into Logans side, head resting on his shoulder and a sweater-pawed hand coming up to lay on his chest. Logan wrapped an arm around his waist in response, tugging him impossibly closer.
Wade did stop shivering, eventually, and there was a mumbled 'thank you' against his neck.
Logan just squeezed his waist in acknowledgement, and neither made a move to separate.
//
The next time, Logan didn't need Wade to say a damn thing.
It wasn't the bills going unpaid this time, either, because Logan prioritised heat as much as he did the base rent when working out their money these days, and had even spent some of his spare cash on an overly loud but functional portable heater as the weather grew colder.
(Of course Wade's favourite method of warming up remained... him, but Logan really had no qualms with that. He found himself almost a bit jealous when Wade opted for the heater before himself, usually when he was busy, and Logan found himself purposefully dropping whatever he was doing to sit on the couch and drag Wade up against him. He absolutely did not glare at a portable heater, because that would be insane.)
No, this time they'd been invited to a Christmas night out alongside the X-men.
Logan had been reluctant to go, still not all that comfortable seeing the team after previously seeing them all... but Wade had begged, and pleaded, because apparently this was a yearly thing and he'd never been invited before.
That alone had only served to piss Logan off more, but Wade had been so excited - and so he sacrificed their quiet night in for a pub crawl around the city.
He'd already caught Wade shivering a few times in the warmth of their apartment that day, but the merc was quick to deny it, likely thinking (and accurately so) that Logan wasn't going to let him go if he thought he was having a bad day in terms of maintaining his body heat.
He'd watched Wade dress with a frown, "at least stick a shirt on under your sweater. You not got any clean sweats you can wear? Those jeans are too thin," Logan had lectured, and Wade had pouted in that way that typically spelt trouble for the older mutant.
"I don't wanna look stupid! Have you seen what I'm working with here? The least I can do is dress nice," Wade gestured to his face, to his scars, and Logan had to bite his tongue to stop himself from immediately jumping on the defence, because he'd probably call Wade gorgeous or something equally as eyebrow raising in the process.
"Fine, but you bring a jacket," he said, and Wade rolled his eyes but agreed.
They'd been out for a couple of hours. The drinks were flowing (Logan had cut himself off at three beers, which was a personal best), and everything was going... oddly well. Logan felt more at ease around the team than he had since he arrived in this universe, and it was nice.
He was talking to Hank, when Scott came over and tapped him on the shoulder.
"Sorry to interrupt, but Wade's asking for you, Logan," Logan frowned.
Wade had dissapeared a little while ago in order to go dance with Storm, Morph and Jean.
"Where is he?" Logan asked, already on his feet.
"Bathroom. He doesn't look great, dunno if he's had too much to drink," Scott replies, and Logan nods, heavily doubting the explanation.
"Thanks, Scott," he says, before making his way through the crowd and into the bathrooms at the back of the club.
When he enters, Wade is perched against the sinks, shivering violently, his whole body trembling and teeth going so fast he could hear them clinking together. He had his arms wrapped tightly around himself.
"W-won't stop, m' cold," Wade whimpered, the embarrassed flush on his cheeks standing out harshly against his pale palour.
Logan's immediate reaction is one of frustration, "I told you that you needed more layers!"
The scolding only earned a small nod, and a sniffle as Wade looked away.
"I'm sorry, I know. I'm just... gonna go home," he said, pushing up from the sinks to leave, but even his legs were shaking, and when he tried to walk the violent trembles knocked him off balance.
Logan was quick to catch him, wrapping his arms around the merc. Wade leaned into his warmth almost instinctively.
"You're an idiot, you know that?" Logan said, but his voice held more concern than anger now, as he steadied Wade on his feet.
He didn't expect the mutant to burst into tears.
Logan didn't do great with tears, especially not when it was somebody he genuinely cared about. He very almost ran out of there, went to grab Jean or Storm or even Hank - anyone who was better at this shit than he was, but he had a feeling Wade wouldn't appreciate anyone seeing him in this state.
Shit, did he even want Logan here right now? He might have asked for him earlier, but he clearly wasn't being much help. He'd made him cry, for fucks sake.
"I'm sorry. I'm so fucking sorry, I know I should've listened I just- I wanted to just feel slightly normal for once," Wade cried harder, and Logan found himself pulling the shaking merc into his arms again, tucking him against his chest.
"I'm not mad, bub. I get it, I do. I'm just worried about you," Logan sighed, and God, Wade really was like a block of ice on his hold.
"'M sorry," Wade hiccuped, and Logan shushed him softly.
"It's fine, honest. Let's get you home and warmed up, hm?" Logan suggested, running his hands over Wade's arms in an effort to ease the chill.
"Yeah," Wade agreed tiredly, and Logan guided him out the bar, giving Jean an excuse of Wade not handling his alcohol too great (which was at least somewhat true, because the merc was definitely teetering into the emotional drunk category if his display in the bathroom was anything to go off) and hailed them a cab home.
He helped Wade to the couch, burying him in blankets and setting up the heater directly in front of him. When he turned to leave, a hand escaped from the mountain of fleece to curl around his wrist.
"Cuddles? Please?"
Logan was surprised he didn't turn into a puddle on the spot. It was fucking ridiculous. If anyone else dared to grab him like that, make such a request with big devastated puppy dog eyes, he would've sliced them into three even pieces.
Wade was making him soft. He didn't feel as repulsed by that thought as he probably should've.
"In a minute, bub. Let me go get you some stuff first, alright?"
Wade nodded, letting go reluctantly.
Logan made quick work of gathering the usual. It had become almost a routine at this point.
He made Wade a hot chocolate too, knowing how much the merc adored the sugary drink. He was only making it to warm him up though, obviously.
When he returned, Wade had burrowed completely beneath the blanket pile, and Logan had to immediately shut down the adorable that his unhelpful, traitorous brain supplied.
He put the hot chocolate on the table, and the smell had Wade popping his head out, staring at the drink.
"You made me hot chocolate?"
"Don't get used to it," Logan replied, and shoved a pair of his own sweatpants and his own hoodie against Wade's chest.
"Get these on."
"These are yours y'know," Wade said, running a hand over the sweatpants.
"Yours are dirty," Logan shrugged.
They were. Apart from a black pair at the bottom of his closet, but Logan was prepared to swear under oath that he'd never seen them before in his life.
Wade made quick work of getting changed. Logan turned to face the wall, and while Wade didn't say anything, Logan could feel the assholes smirk.
Once he was done, Logan joined him on the couch, climbing beneathe the layers of blankets despite the fact that he tended to run pretty hot. He could get closer to Wade this way.
He stuck the heat pad on his neck, the hot water bottle against his stomach (Wade's very own one now, with hello kitty sewn onto the cover - early Christmas gift from Logan) and wrapped him up in his arms, until Wade's entire body weight was resting against him, sprawled against his chest.
"Logan?" Wade asked after a while of silence, the only sound being the TV and humming of the heater.
"Hm?"
"You're the best wolverine," Wade said softly, and Logan glanced down at the merc, snuggled against his chest, eyes half lidded. He'd stopped shivering.
"Only for you, bub," he hummed in response, very almost kissing the top of his head, but settling on running a hand through it instead.
Wade made a happy sound, and Logan was just glad no one was around to see the stupid smile it put on his face.

Carriage Rides
Pairings- King George iii x reader
Summary - no plot just smut
Warnings- unprotected sex in a carriage. (18+)
âYour majestyâ Reynolds' voice outside the carriage door brought you both back to reality. Just outside those doors were your subjects , waiting patiently for their king and queen.
âDo not open that door Reynoldsâ George ordered, his hips continuing to thrust up against yours. Your own hips rolling against his, chasing your end.
âIs everything alright your majesty?â Reynolds' voice interrupts you once again, Georgeâs hands grip tightly around the bunched up material of your dress.
His brows furrowed together in anger, he was so close. If people stop interrupting the two of you, you would be finished. On the way to the meeting but apparently no one had patience these days.
âSplendid Reynolds, now you keep that door closed or so help me I will have you beheadedâ George quips, his attention moves back to yours.
His hand grips your jaw and pulls you down to his lips. Your hips begin their movement once more, your dress was in the way. Stopping you both from being as close to one another as possible, you hated it.
âOh! Georgeâ you cried into his mouth, the corner of his lips turning up into a grin. He loved the sounds you made, he loved the way your voice would get raspier with each thrust of the hip.
âThatâs it sweet y/n⌠doing so goodâ he whispered, you could feel the carriage move from under you. Your bodies causing the carriage to sway slightly, the sounds of the footmen chatting outside brought you out of your haze once more.
âHey hey⌠donât mind them y/n⌠look at me, feel meâ
You nodded your head, placing your hands on his shoulder. His own hands groped at your breast, he so desperately wanted them out of the stupid dress you had been put into, but there wasnât enough time to get you both undressed.
âGet offâ he orders, moving you away from him. Itâs not easy to move around the small space of the carriage but he is able to push your body against the window, your knees pressed against the cushion of the seat.
His body meets yours once again and he pushes inside of you, you bite down on the red curtain.
âYou neednât hide those sweet sounds my Queen⌠let them hearâ.
You do as he says and let the material fall from your mouth, instead gripping it with your hands as his hips meet yours.
Moans and groans fill the carriage, traveling outside to where Reynolds and Brimsley stand guard at the door. Their eyes meet for a moment and they share a knowing look, they begin to order the crowd to move along. Telling them their king and queen will be a few moments longer.
âOh George!â
âyour doing such a good job my loveâ
Your walls begin to flutter around him, squeezing him deeper and deeper in. Your toes curl within the diamond encrusted shoes that hold your feet captive.
âDo not stopâ you chant, you're so close to your release. You want nothing more than to cum around him.
âIâm going to bury my seed so deep into you⌠we are going to have many babies my loveâ
âChrist!â
Suddenly it happens, your release. White hot, blinding pleasure overwhelms your senses, your vision begins to blur and a moan escapes you. You tremble against the seat of the carriage, mind blank and fuzzy.
âThatâs it my love⌠milk me dryâ
Just as your pleasure begins to fade you feel his seed shoot deep inside of you a new warmth within you. Georgeâs hips stutter against your bottom, a soft groan escapes his lips.
âWe must make hasteâ you state, his cock falls out of you. Fixing your multi layer dress until you looked what you deemed perfect.. âDo I-â
âYou look beautiful my loveâ.

Late spring had washed over Wyoming, introducing a plethora of flora and fauna to what was a barren waste of ice all but a few months earlier. Luscious greenery stretched as far as the eye could see; the snow-capped mountain range barricaded by acres of plentiful forestry. It was beautiful. A soft breeze swilled around your head as you took in the view from your vantage point.
âWouldâve asked for a different partner if I knew youâd stand around gawpinâ all day.â
Reality trickled back into focus as the grumble from your foraging partner reached your ears. Joel Miller, Jacksonâs own resident asshole, had been paired with you four days prior to complete a week-long expedition. Youâd been sent off to retrieve anything of value from abandoned settlements, and to stock up on ingredients for herbal remedies. How youâd fallen under the misfortune of being partnered with the most miserable bastard in the county was beyond you.
Joel hadnât even turned to voice his complaint, continuing to walk toward the tree line. You mentally weighed up whether being left to raiders could really be that bad, before scampering off to rejoin him with a huff. âDidnât exactly choose to be here myself, dickwadâ, you hollered, falling on deaf ears as you closed the distance between yourself and the man ahead of you.
You reached the tree line, standing to inspect the foliage before you.
âIf youâve got anything stupid to say, get it out your system now. I ainât dying on your count âcause you canât keep your mouth shut.â
He couldnât be more condescending if he tried. He stood at armâs length beside you, rich brown eyes staring you down, arms crossed across his chest in a display of patronising authority. A singular eyebrow raised in your direction, prompting you to break the silence. âOh fuck off alreadyâ, you mumbled as you barged past him and onto the dirt path, intentionally knocking into him with your shoulder as you went.
The woods were thick. Shrubbery of all varieties grew between the trunks and twisted roots of staggeringly tall trees as you edged your way further inwards. Insects provided a constant thrumming sound, broken only by the twittering of small birds, high above the underbelly on which you walked. Once in a while, a twig would snap underfoot, followed by a hushed shut up from Joel trailing behind you.
You peered through branches, your mental checklist of ingredients being ticked off gradually as you foraged through the underbrush, scoping out your remaining items. The ground was unforgiving, swelling and receding with reckless abandon, threatening to throw you off balance at any given moment. You continued your trudge, until you came across a small and unusual clearing.
You kept your volume low as you enquired about the strange plant ahead of you. âWhat⌠what the fuck is that one?â, your curiosity piqued by the shrub in the middle of the clearing, seemingly warding off any and all other vegetation. You stepped forward, wanting to get a closer look at the vibrant blooms spreading across the tangled mass of deep green leaves and twisted branches.
âChrist, donât you have any survival skills? Whereâd you learn to stick your nose into plants that you donât recognise? Gâdamn FEDRA didnât teach you shit, clearly.â
The hiss of Joelâs words were delivered straight into your ear as you were yanked backwards by a firm hand on your shoulder. Not to give him any credit, but you hadnât realised quite how close you had gotten to the bright red petals in front of you. You jerked your shoulder from his grasp and shot him a warning glare.
âGet movinâ, next settlement should be âbout a half mile from here.â
It was Joelâs turn to barge past you, leading the way around the small glade and past the shrub. You couldnât tear your eyes from the blossoms adorning itâs branches, the crimson colouring almost magnetising to your eyes. You hadnât been paying attention to your footing as you passed, and before you could rebalance, you stumbled over an overgrown root and found yourself tumbling into the sprawling clump of petals and greenery.
Despite the prickle of broken branches, toppling over had been less of a pain in the ass than a majority of the expedition. The smell, for one, was divine. It was powdery and light, yet simultaneously heady and almost nauseatingly sweet. You couldnât describe it even if you tried. And tried you did, as you sat and breathed deeply through your nose, not even attempting to right yourself. A calloused hand breached the branches directly in front of your face.
âGet. Up. Now.â
But even Joelâs sour tone couldnât distract from the aroma. You clasped both hands around the one ahead of you, and with a grunt coming from the other side of the branches, you were hauled up and out of the bush onto your feet. The smell clung to your clothes as you brushed twigs and squashed petals from your body. Joel did the same, having leant a fair distance into the centre of the plant to retrieve you.
As soon as you were stable again, Joel took off without another word. You didnât care particularly. You trailed a few feet behind, cautiously watching your steps to avoid another fiasco. You walked in silence, arms swinging gently by your side, ambling along. You sighed. As you scanned the environment, you realised that everything had become slightly hazy, the borders of your vision tinged with a fuzziness that hadnât been there before.
âDid I hit my head on the way down?â, you questioned out loud. It was the only explanation you could think of; the only answer as to why everything in your field of vision had taken on an almost shimmering iridescence. Sunlight breaching the canopy of trees beamed down and quite literally sparkled. Warm hues were more pronounced - an ambience that you hadnât noticed before surrounding you as you continued to sidle along the path. Joel didnât answer, remaining steadfast in his pace.
Ten minutes passed, and you noticed that your skin felt hot and clammy underneath your clothing. Trailing a hand toward your neck, you unclasped the buttons of the denim jacket that suddenly felt all too much for this weather. Shit, maybe you did hit your head. But this didnât feel like a typical concussion; everything looked far too pleasant, the melding shades of green and brown making you hum unexpectedly, as if you were purring. Everything felt⌠good.
âSh-should be five minutes from here now.â
The sound reached your ears, a rumble from just ahead of you. It was warm, much like yourself, like everything else; viscous like honey and borderline blissful to hear. Heavy eyelids lifted from the path in front of your feet as you glanced toward the source. Joel. Unlike everything in your periphery, Joel was crystal clear.
You took him in, in all his glory. And glorious he was, as he swaggered in front of you, strong legs stepping rhythmically across moss and detritus. Youâd never noticed quite how broad he was across his shoulders as your eyes worked their way up his back. Curls sprung from his nape, perspiration making unkempt hair even more unruly. It made you salivate. A source of light just beyond him let you know that you were nearing the edge of the forest, the settlement youâd be pitching up in for the evening just ahead. And thatâs when he turned his head, painfully slow, to glance over his shoulder at you as he walked.
It was like you had been electrocuted, or stung, or something. Eyes that had rarely held anything but disdain for you now frenzied looking, pupils blown out. Ravenous. The glance lasted far, far too long, or at least it seemed like it did. A plush pink tongue swept over parted lips and you damn near gasped. A singular bead of sweat sat atop his usually furrowed brow, now knitted in a delectable blend of need and desperation. Thatâs when the ache started, deep in the pit of your stomach, inescapable. Your breath sat heavy in your chest, each inhale seemingly adding to this godforsaken pressure now lingering between your legs.
Not once had you thought of Joel in a sexual manner, you thought to yourself as you stepped into the sunlight beyond the tree line. He was always so unimpressed by you, so harsh and scolding. He was handsome, no one would argue that point, but his sharp tongue and unrelenting judgement of others made him unapproachable. How stupid of you, to overlook something quite so beautiful. Your stomach knotted, painfully aching as you continued to watch him head toward the small building a mere few metres away.
Each step became arduous as you reached the abandoned house, your thighs rubbing in your jeans. Joel didnât hesitate to enter, swinging the door open, mumbling bathroom in your direction before slinking off upstairs. It was so unlike him, to act so precariously. Why did it make you wet? You eyed an armchair, hideously upholstered in a carpet-like fabric, before approaching and resting. As soon as your ass hit the cushion, your thighs pressed together as though your very own body may betray you if you didnât seek to contain yourself. Teeth clasped your bottom lip, a stifled whimper echoing in the room. Did you just make that noise?
You were desperately uncomfortable. The armchair played no part, the discomfort stemming purely from yourself. You rubbed your legs together, the friction offering no relief. Hazy-eyed, you peered around the room. Joel hadnât returned. God, how long had it been since he went upstairs? You crossed your legs, your core hot with an unrelenting need to act. The thought of touching yourself, slipping a hand under the waistband of your jeans, sprung to mind. You shook it off, and no sooner had you done so, you whined. Animalistic, like a bitch in heat. You were no better than any wanton animal, desperately seeking out relief from the ache that consumed you.
What the fuck was going on? Why were you acting like this, so uncontrolled, so unhinged? Your back arched against the chair behind you, eyes squeezed shut and inhaling deeply. You had to do something, anything, to settle the ache inside you. You hesitantly unfurled your legs, biting your lip harder. Your thighs trembled as you stood, and you willed them to carry you toward the staircase that Joel had disappeared up.
After braving the stairs, you could see a number of doors. One was open, a trail of wet footprints leading from it and toward another, the end of the path being cut off by a closed oak door. You followed the footsteps in reverse, heading toward the bathroom. You could smell the pine shower gel that had been wrangled from the mirrored cabinet above the sink, the cracked tile underneath you slippery.
You closed the cabinet and looked at yourself. Staring back at you, eyes wide and dazzling, pupils stretching your irises into a thin circle of colour around a bottomless pit of pitch black, was a version of you that youâd never seen before. Your hair was windswept, flyaways sticking to damp skin on your face. There was something feral about the woman that looked back at you. She was beautiful. Without thinking, you reached out to touch the cool surface of the mirror, in awe of how her lips parted just so, cheeks flushed and chest heaving. The ache returned and interrupted your admiration with a ferocity unmatched.
You wanted relief. No, needed relief. As you stood, you trailed a hand down your chest, past your naval, and down to the button of your jeans. Your fingers fumbled for just a moment before threading the button through its hole, immediately seeking out the metal zipper after. You didnât even bother with shedding the denim from your legs. A supple hand slid its way over your mound and toward your clit, slick and saturated with want. Bracing yourself with one hand on the porcelain sink, forehead pressed against your own cold reflection in the mirror, you began to draw slow circles around yourself.
A heady moan left your mouth, your clit sensitive under your touch, the relief your fingers could offer barely scraping the surface. The frustration swelled inside you as your fingers drew tighter circles, adjusting both pressure and pace in a bid to meet your climax. A strangled sound escaped your throat, high pitched and breathy, as you came, the ache inside you merely ebbing before burning brighter than before. This wouldnât be enough, you thought, as you rinsed your fingers under icy water from the tap and wiped them on your jeans.
Thatâs when you heard it. Quiet, muffled by brick and wood, coming from a different room. A groan, somehow both pained and yet drowning in bliss. Youâd barely finished re-buttoning your jeans before your feet had moved of their own accord, seeking more of the sweet sound that you knew could only be coming from one person. There was something so wrong, so obscene, about you stood outside of the doorway, ear pressed against chipped wood. The breathing inside was laboured, part grunt, part sigh. It may as well have been a live wire entering your eardrums, the way that it electrified you and made the hair on your arms stand on end.
You pressed harder against the door, pleading for more of the delicious noises to reach you. Your stomach coiled and churned, painful and hot, tension brewing across your shoulders as you fought to keep yourself upright. Teeth found your bottom lip once more, stifling your own lewd sounds, praying that you wouldnât be caught in such a compromising position. It was then that you heard it, quieter than any noise that proceeded it, but it was there. Your name, moaned at a volume no louder than a whimper, intoxicatingly melodic as it reverberated inside your head. Your jaw was slack, spit pooling, and a moan left your mouth with no warning.
You clapped a hand over your mouth the moment it had happened, but it was too late. The sound of springs shifting, of feet making contact with floorboards, replaced the lusty melody as you span on your heels and pressed your back against the wall beside the door. You sank to a crouch as footsteps neared the doorway, and clarity breached your mind just for a moment, the consequences of your voyeurism being weighed up. Joel was a dangerous man, that much you knew, and you silently hoped that he would be forgiving as the doorknob twisted.
The door cracked open ever-so slightly. You could hear panting through the gap as you willed your own chest to settle. Door edging open, you squeezed your eyes shut, as if not seeing Joel would make the whole scenario better, as if you hadnât just been caught in the act. With your eyes closed, you could smell him, like your remaining senses had been switched on for the very first time. He smelt of vetiver and musk, of leather and whiskey. Had your eyes not been shut, youâre sure you wouldâve seen stars.
The crouch that had been holding you against the wall failed you, your thighs trembling and buckling, and your knees made contact with the hardwood floor underneath. Head ducked, you opened your eyes slowly and were met with the view of unlaced boots. Your gaze lingered as you raised your head, taking in strong thighs wrapped in starched denim, a shirt thrown haphazardly over an otherwise bare torso. A trail of dark curls closed the gap between naval and waistband, a runway for your eyes to follow, leading you to the thick imprint of a cock aching to be released from its confines. You drew your eyes away from it after a moment, and with your heart hammering inside your chest, you glanced up to Joelâs face.
âGet up.â
His voice was commanding but non-aggressive. There was a hint of desperation, as if you needed convincing. He looked down at you, soaking you in, and you wondered whether he too saw the beauty in the wild woman youâd seen in the mirror. Cheeks and neck pink with warmth, he held out a hand, which you took gratefully. Touching him, touching skin that wasnât yours, was exhilarating. His hand swallowed yours, the skin of his palm firm and coarse, fingers thick and long. He hoisted you up to your feet, dropping your hand and scanning your face.
âCanât be around you. Ya gotta go downstairs, canât trust myself.â
ďżźJoel couldâve been speaking in tongues for all you knew. All you had heard was a throaty grumble, your attention all but consumed by the shape of his mouth as he spoke. The way his jaw tensed as he paused, Adamâs apple bobbing as he gulped in air. You swear his cock twitched in his jeans as your name left his mouth. You felt hotter than the sun, resisting the urge to double over as pressure reached a crippling peak between your thighs. âJ-Joel, I need you to help meâ, your voice cracking, pleading with him. You watched pink swipe over his lips, now glistening, hand reaching out and clutching at his bicep to steady yourself instinctively. âI donât know whatâs happening to me, please. Please, just-â.
Your sentence was cut short as a firm thumb found its way to your lips, coaxing them to part as it pulled the lower one down. Strong fingers held your chin up. Muscles flexed beneath your hand, tensing much like the ones you watched in Joelâs jaw. Tears welled in your eyes, threatening to escape as your insides boiled, only fueled by the contact on your skin.
âShhh now baby. You feelinâ it too? Reckon it was that damn plant, not been able to walk straight since you fell in it.â
Baby. The way it rolled from his tongue so naturally, like heâd always wanted to call you it. It made you feel giddy, head lulling harder into his grasp. You didnât attempt to stifle the whine that left you. His fingers flexed around your chin, and he hummed his approval, the sound emanating from low in his throat.
âOh darlinâ, gotten yourself in a real state ainât ya? Tell me what you need. Tell me how I can make it better.â
Was this really happening? His thumb brushed over your bottom lip before he removed his hand, placing it on your upper arm and squeezing gently. Your breathing was shallow, words unable to form. A wave of pressure swelled low in your abdomen and without thinking, you tip-toed, tilting your head up to reach Joelâs, and kissed his cheek. Stubble scratched at the swell of your lips, and the smell of him so close drove you to the brink of frenzy. It appeared the same happened to Joel, as he tightened his grip on your arm, bringing his other hand to sit flat on the small of your back and pressing you toward him in one fluid motion.
His mouth met yours with a vigour unparalleled; his tongue forcing its way into your mouth, all-consuming and dominant in its nature. You were putty under his touch, his hand following the arch in your spine up toward your hair. Breathing was no longer a priority - you needed this man more than oxygen. A fistful of your hair found itself wrapped around Joelâs hand, and with a firm tug, your neck was exposed. You were his for the taking.
Lips traced along the length of your neck, occasionally nipping and sucking as they made their way down to your clavicle. Flat-tongued and panting, Joel worked his back up toward your ear, licking as he went. Any self-restraint you may have possessed was long gone; begging him to give you all that he had. âPlease, I need - oh fuck - I need youâ, your hushed tone perceptible only to his ears. He stopped his attack on your neck and collar, eyes dark with desire, releasing his grip on you only for a moment before grabbing at your wrist and pulling you into the room that he had left.
The room contained little more than a double bed, a nightstand and a dresser. The bed was in a state of disarray, sheets peeling at the corners, a pillow lost to the floor. The smell of sex hung in the air, the aroma giving Joel and his earlier activities away. You squirmed from his grip to remove your jacket, far too aware of its weight on your aching body. Hands deftly made their way to the hem of your t-shirt, before lifting and shedding yet another layer. You stood, your upper half bare, and looked at Joel.
âFuck, look so pretty for me baby. Gonna make you feel so good, promise.â
The words fell from his mouth, rumbling and low, and it sent chills up your spine where his hands had not long been. Youâd no doubt soaked your panties, and at this rate, your jeans wouldnât be far behind. With an almost pained expression, Joel tore his eyes from you and moved toward the bed, shrugging the shirt off of his bare torso and letting fall to the ground. He turned, facing you again, and sat himself on the edge of the bed, patting his thigh, beckoning you over. He leant back on a single propped arm, shifting his hips to accommodate the somehow still growing bulge in his jeans. It was vulgar to witness, and you moved quickly toward him.
Hands found your hips as you stood before him, feet planted between spread legs. He worked one hand over your zipper, and tucking both thumbs into your waistband, pulled both your jeans and panties to the ground in one fell swoop. He drew his lips toward your stomach, placing wet kisses in a downward direction, his breath hot against your exposed flesh. Goosebumps prickled along your legs, blood replaced entirely by red-hot adrenaline, as he neared your core.
âSâall mine, you hear me?â
No sooner had the words reached your ears, did you feel Joelâs hand snaking itâs way up your inner thigh toward your cunt. In a desperate bid to stop yourself from rocking your hips forward, you instead opted to nestle your hand into thick brown curls, tugging hard and reaping the rewards - a moan cascading from Joelâs mouth. âPlease, Joel, I canât - need something, anythingâ, you begged, as though your life depended on it. It very well may, you thought; the heat in your core reaching a precipice and threatening to bring you to your knees with its blistering pain. You felt a number of fingers drag through your folds, hot and slick, before two were pushed inside you without warning. You yelped, not with pain, but with a scorching desire for more.
âSo fuckinâ wet for me baby. Must be hurtinâ real bad.â
You whined as the fingers inside you curled, brushing against the velveteen walls of your cunt, deeper than youâd ever been able to reach yourself. You felt yourself clench around the soaked digits, pumping themselves in and out, stilling only to drag themselves across your g-spot.
âMake me wanna cum just watching you, sugar. See what youâre doinâ to me?â
You glanced down past the curls still tangled around your fingers. Joel had unbuttoned his jeans, his cock thick and leaking, almost purple and just begging to be attended to. He held the shaft steady around its base, his other hand continuing to unravel you from the inside out. âP-please, I need-â; your words were cut short as Joel moved his thumb to your clit, nothing more than a strangled moan escaping you. He pressed firmly as he swept the digit left to right, his fingers now curling inside you - you felt as though youâd left your body as your orgasm drew closer, grounded only by the rhythmic motion of thick fingers and the blissful sounds of Joelâs humming.
âCum for me baby, I know youâre needinâ it. Wanna see you make a mess of this pretty little pussy.â
Spurred on by the obscenities leaving his mouth, you held your breath as your orgasm rushed through you. As the wave of pleasure hit, momentarily replacing the ache in your abdomen, a cry left your parted lips, your head tipped back. Joelâs fingers worked you through the bliss, coaxing every last sound he could from you, murmuring as he went.
âSuch a good girl for me.â
âThatâs it darlinâ, gonna make it all better.â
âSo tight around me baby, donât think I can hold on much longer.â
Your breathing was rapid, your chest rising and falling in shudders, knees desperately trying to refrain from buckling beneath you. And yet, before you could discern exactly what had just happened, your stomach tensed with a vengeance - it simply wasnât enough. With his jeans still around his thighs, you gawped at Joel, sat cock in hand, precum dripping in glistening beads from its tip. Your fingers unwound themselves from his head as he slipped his fingers from your heat, slick release coating your inner thighs. You stepped out of the remaining clothes that sat bunched around your ankles, and made for Joelâs lap, wide and inviting.
He leant back further, using both arms to hold himself upright, as you climbed across his thick thighs and sat on him. Your chest was at his eye level, and he took full advantage of such a fact, dipping his head toward your breasts and nipping at the swells. God, if only you had the foresight to see what youâd been missing out on this whole time.
You weaved your hand between your bodies, further down until you made contact with his cock. It was girthy and solid, the weight of it surprised you as you curled your fingers around its length, your thumb not quite reaching the other side of your hand. Hesitation zipped through your mind, questioning whether or not you could actually take him, but the visceral groan that met your ears was enough to dismiss any and all doubts.
Steadying his shaft in one hand and balancing yourself on your knees, you lined him up with you. He stared up at you, brows pinched and pleading, surely feeling the heat radiating from your core. Hands remained at his side as you made your descent, the stretch as you engulfed him inch by inch borderline painful, but oh so worth it. The gasp he let out as you reached the hilt of his cock was downright criminal, his face flashing with both shock and desire. You let yourself adjust to his size, the fire in your belly quelled for now.
âDonât know how long Iâm gonna last; been a while since I last-â
Youâd rocked your hips as he was speaking, and in turn had unintentionally cut him off, your name interrupting his flow of words, jolting out of him as if it were the most obscene curse word he could muster. It was music to your ears. Youâd never felt so full, packed to the brim with Joel, cock-drunk and giddy as though youâd been fucking him for hours. Heâd not done so much as thrust, and yet he had you enraptured.
âYouâre so tight baby girl, I canât - Christ - I canât think straight.â
You rolled your hips, not just once but repeatedly, making light work of the friction that the smattering of curls at the base of his cock offered against your throbbing clit. You mewled as you pushed your hips down harder, seeking as much purchase as physically possible, Joel twitching against your walls.
âSuch a pretty girl, making me feel so good. Always knew youâd take me so well.â
If it werenât for your state of bottomed-out delirium, youâd have questioned Joel on what he meant by always. Had he pictured this exact scenario before? Was it as good as heâd imagined it would be? Selfishly, you didnât care. You had started to lift yourself along his length, finding a pace that quickly filled the dank room with a cacophony of moans. Your knees ached against the mattress as you brought yourself up and down repeatedly, thighs trembling once more. You couldnât be contained; a woman unraveled. Joel dug his nose into the crook of your neck, breathing you in deeply, muffling his groans of pleasure with your shoulder. He filled you to such a degree that you could feel him pressing against your cervix, hard and wanting.
âThatâs it, fuck yourself on my cock, sugar. Gonna squeeze the cum straight outta me, so gâdamn tight.â
The crude description alone wouldâve been enough to send you tumbling into your next climax, even without the swell of Joelâs cock inside you. You bore down and rutted against him, dizzy and blissed out as you sought out your release. You choked on his name as you came, bracing yourself against his tensed shoulders, milking his cock as your walls quivered and clenched around him. As you rode out your climax, Joel wrapped an arm around your waist, holding you in place. He lifted you ever so slightly, creating just enough leverage for him to buck his hips up into your pussy, chasing his own orgasm.
You watched as he set a ruthless pace, sloppily thrusting upwards, eyes screwed closed. The slapping sounds as his hips met your own nearly overpowered the guttural moaning escaping his mouth. âCum for me Joel, p-please - fuck - please fill me upâ, you babbled, too enthralled by pure lust to consider the consequences. You needed him to fill you, claim you.
Your begging tipped him over the edge, and with a groan he shuddered his hips up, painting the walls of your cunt with hot, thick ropes of cum. You could feel him pulse inside you with each spurt, the muscles in his chest and stomach tensing, shoulders heaving with strain. He pressed his damp forehead against your chest, still hard inside you.
âDonât think Iâve ever cum so hard - damn near knocked me out, pretty girl.â
He chuckled, still panting as he spoke. You shifted your weight and leant against his shoulders as you lifted yourself off him and to your feet. No more than a minute after you had unsheathed him from your walls, his spend still dribbling down your thighs from your slit, did the ache return. It brewed inside you, bubbling low in the tender flesh of your stomach, freshly bruised from the frivolities you had just taken part in. The building pressure made you whine, and as you glanced at Joel, cock still throbbing and stood to attention, you realised that your evening was far from over.

hey so uh
this is definitely a spoiler (at least for an alternative outcome), but apparently, if you go to the Iron Throne first things first, before Mizora would offer to reveal Ulder's location and help you, he's, um.
He's already dead by the time you arrive. And if that happens, what Mizora offers Wyll in the subsequent deal is not knowledge, or a flimsy guarantee of a chance to save Ravengard, but rather, it's...
It's a resurrection. True resurrection.
She offers to essentially... pluck Ulder Ravengard's soul from the Hells, and bring him to camp, no frills, no questions asked. She offers to bring his father, safe and unharmed, back to life and back to him, in exchange for Wyll's soul- which she kind of already had to begin with, making it kind of a fucking bargain at that point.
And Jesus Fucking Christ, this setup... it's just so much worse than the "normal" deal, specifically because it's that much more tempting.
To get this outcome requires Wyll to have seen his father's body, bound and lifeless on the floor of a prison cell. It requires him to be actively mourning, with no chance at closure or redemption, as Mizora shows up, and what she offers him then is the ability to unmake this strand of reality.
Considering that under regular circumstances he is willing to sacrifice his soul for a mere improvement to the chance we already had to save the Duke, I can't even fathom how, in a realistic scenario, we could talk him out of taking this deal.
This is so much more fucked up than the default deal.

Love is Life, and Also Unpredictable
The Decameron is a brilliant, beautiful show that deserves way more praise than the lukewarm reviews. I donât think Iâve ever seen a love story so beautiful and characters who subverted expectations in the most satisfying ways.
Every time you think a character is an unforgivable lout, you'll be surprised at how human they'll be. The character you think is a buffoon and whom you wish would die because they're THAT level of annoying ends up making you bawl with their words a single episode later, and it still feels in character.
I dunno, the show has pretty mixed reviews, but if you like dark humor and a study on humanity, this show is for you. Also, if you like love stories of any sort, because this show contains several of the single most unique love stories I could have ever imagined. Yes, including queer and... ace love.
*yes i have read boccaccio's work on which it's based
Spiritual, Agape Love: Neifile and Panfilo
I genuinely think the sexless marriage and partnership of a gay man and a devout, neurotic straight woman is one of the most beautiful love stories I've seen in media, ever. They genuinely want each other to be happy, and they aren't content just being each other's "beard" or financial security. They want to know each other more. They want honesty. They want to be together and to have intimacy, just not romantic or sexual.
The scene where they reconcile in front of Ruggiero is stunningly wholesome and--dare I say it--pure.
The scene where Neifile falls in the well and waits for God to save her is clearly a riff on the classic parable of the guy who is drowning and turns down two boats and a helicopter rescue saying "no thanks, God will save me," only to die and get to heaven and cry, "God, why didn't you save me?" Then God replies, "you dumbass, I sent you two boats and a helicopter!"
Neifile is rescued because her husband Panfilo pays someone to rescue her and to tell her God sent a vision telling them where to find Neifile. When she finds out Panfilo orchestrated it, she's furious about him deceiving her. But the reality, we later realize, is that he didn't exactly. Neifile wanted proof God still cared about her. He sent her a husband who loved her so much he would do anything to save her.
Neifile's faith isn't perfectly written, but it's not mocked. In the end, Neifile and Panfilo live like Christ--which is to say, they save their friends even though they die. Neifile dies afraid, but life comes with no guarantees. It's unpredictable, just like love. And after her death, Panfilo seems to lose the will to live--but when he decides to sacrifice his life to die alongside Neifile, it's not so much out of a desire to die as it is out of a desire to have his friends survive. And it's not a coincidence that the foe they face off with is a self-proclaimed prophet who's really a cruel, hypocritical cult leader. Neifile's dead, plague-ridden body is more holy than the cult leader's sword.
Romantic/Eros Love: Misia and Filomena, Tindaro and Stratilia, (and everyone)
Everyone has romantic love and/or a sexual relationship in the story. Everyone has a "pairing," but it is seldom their most important bond.
Dioneo and Licisca
Filomena and Misia
Pampinea and Sirisco
Tindaro and Stratilia
Neifile and Panfilo/Ruggiero
Panfilo and Neifile/Andreoli
The two that are the most important here are Misia and Filomena, and Tindaro and Stratilia. Yet they are both quite unique portrayals as well, because while Misia and Filomena's love is requited, Tindaro's loev for Stratilia is completely unrequited. Yet, its power still shines through.
Tindaro's love for Stratilia is utterly unrequited and stays that way. However, his love for her is nonetheless real and he proves it over and over, and it isn't dependent on her returning it. His determination to love her, no matter what she does or doesn't give him, is honestly a beautiful exploration of unrequited love. Usually in fiction unrequited love is either someone wasting their time or a tragedy.
Rarely does unrequited love have power to redeem and save, but here it does. It motivates Tindaro to change himself for the better and to become the best version of himself, and it saves Stratilia's life and the life of her son.
Yet, the story avoids any kind of iffy subtext about sex corrupting love. Misia and Filomena get a happily ever after (the only pairing in the series that does), but Tindaro's love for Stratilia, which literally starts as hate sex and stays that way for her, redeems Tindaro. So the show avoids saying that sex is all that love is, and avoids the implication that sex ruins love as well.
Familial Love: Licisca and Filomena, Stratilia and Jacopo
The series addresses sibling love in a variety of ways. Filomena and Licisca are clearly sisters long before we get the official reveal that Licisca is actually Filomena's half-sister in blood. And even when we see them fighting and pushing each other off a bridge (literally), they love each other. They can't bear to see each other die, even as they peck at each other and insult each other constantly.
Filomena: Licisca, you saved me again! Licisca: Yeah, you dumb bitch. Love's got long claws.
Truly, a sister exchange right there.
What gets in the way of their familial relationship is class. The series juxtaposes class issues against familial ones quite a bit. Leonardo, for example, we never meet, but the way he treats Stratilia and Jacopo (his son) is pretty terrible.
And yet, Jacopo has a good life. Stratilia loves him, even though he is the reason she can never leave the villa, marry, or have any sort of life of her own. She knows Leonardo never plans to have Jacopo as an heir or treat him as a son in any way, but she loves him and sticks around for him, and doesn't resent him for it. And he in turn adores his mother and wants to protect her. Love is a burden, as Panfilo says directly, but so is life. Love anchors.
What gets in the way of love for this mother and son, temporarily, is again class. Not for herself, but for her son, Stratilia eventually decides to take the villa since Leonardo is dead and Jacopo is the rightful heir. But clinging to class and material possessions in this series never ends well.
When Stratilia realizes her desire to seize the villa in the name of justice for her son will likely get them all killed, she cries and blames herself for their coming deaths.
As Tindaro says:
Stratilia: I failed my son Tindaro: No. You have given him everything. And love most of all. He is blessed. You understand that Jacopo? You are blessed.
In other words, love doesn't have to be perfect. It can involve major screwups and pain, but that doesn't mean the life they had or the love was any less powerful.
Also of note: the whole reason the peasants turn to mercenaries and cults is because the rich lock themselves away from the poor, when in reality they are all humans. You can't counter acts of God (or, y'know, rats) but where humans do have power, in all the terrible hands life slaps them with, is the ability to love each other and help each other. While this sounds cheesy, the juxtaposition of this idea with a black comedy plague setting actually makes it shine.
The Loveless: Pampinea
At the start of the story, there are two buffoons: Tindaro and Pampinea.
Tindaro is misogynistic and pathetic, and Pampinea is equally insufferable but more sympathetic because her insufferable tendencies are clearly driven by her status as an unmarried woman in a patriarchal, misogynistic society.
Yet Pampinea has all of these kinds of love, and can't accept any of them. Sirisco loves her and thinks she is beautiful. She not only pushes him away, but is cruel in doing so. She has the respect of Neifile and Licisca. She has unrequited loyalty and love from Misia, and uses it to manipulate Misia into killing Ruggiero for her (and the irony is that Misia, who is traumatized from killing Ruggiero, then kills Pampinea).
Pampinea is a well-written villain, imo. You love to hate her, but you also see her humanity. The way she treats Misia, though, is increasingly horrifying, and their relationship foils Tindaro and Dioneo's, Filomena and Licisca's, and Leonardo's and Stratilia's/Sirisco's.
In fact, Filomena even directly acknowledges that she's no better than Pampinea for how she's treated Licisca. Tindaro doesn't get the chance to have that realization about Dioneo while Dioneo is alive, but he does give him a decent burial when he definitely didn't have to. And, there's an aspect of tragedy there too--Dioneo did care about Tindaro, but Tindaro's inability to show any kind of care for Dioneo while he lived means that he doesn't realize that Dioneo did in fact find love in the end, though he acknowledges that this was what Dioneo did primarily want in life.
In contrast, Pampinea has chance after chance after chance to choose differently, to choose a single bond, and she doesn't. She also recognizes that her servant wants love more than anything, just like Tindaro and Dioneo, but instead of using that to honor them, she uses it to degrade and manipulate Misia.
Bad Victims and Toxic Love: Misia and Pampinea
Misia is a bad victim. It takes forever for her to realize she's being abused and even longer to accept it. She does in fact murder someone for her mistress, and she keeps going back to Pampinea even when it means essentially betraying Filomena, whom she romantically loves. When she asks for help, she pushes the people she's asked away.
Eventually, the only way she sees to free herself is to kill Pampinea, because love for Pampinea is a way to cage someone rather than a way to set them free. Pampinea's already introduced the idea of killing for love, so it's not really a surprise when this comes back to bite Pampinea and she is killed.
Yet the story doesn't demonize Misia for this. It shows how damn difficult it is to free oneself from an abuser, and how genuine the love for an abuser can be. In fact, the victim can often not even realize they're being abused and taken advantage of.
Furthermore, Misia's abuse doesn't make her a better person. Most people tend to assume that victims cry and wait for rescue, but that's not realistic. Victims lash out and can sometimes have a massive cognitive dissonance, as demonstrated in the show when Misia begs Sirisco for help and then blames him for Ruggiero's death when he calls her out on Pampinea's abuse of her.
Even Misia killing Pampinea isn't portrayed as a moral positive. It's tragic, but it also doesn't have to destroy Misia's future. Filomena loves her and forgives her, and that love can tether Misia to life despite her having two murders under her belt.
Sirisco also goes down a bad path, similar to Misia. He brings misery and problems to the villa in his outage over Pampinea's treatment of him. Yet he does repent after he sees that his actions have directly led to the deaths of the peasants who treat him well, and he survives.

that post about how traumatized people are expected to censor their own experiences reminds me of how when people with visible deformities or scarring post selfies, people will get mad at them and go âthis could be triggering!! tw body horror!â
people need to develop a sense of shame for their own hypersensitivity and sheltered coddled lives. being shielded from the realities of other peoples lives is not a human right. if you dont wanna see scarred people then avoid looking at photos. if you dont wanna know about peoples life experiences donât talk to them. I hate this shit so much. âYou owe it to me to hide the evidence of your suffering because thinking about it makes me bummed out!!â I lived through the actual experience, I think youâll survive witnessing the fact that I survived. jesus christ
sry for late reply but this is so damn real i still think abt this all the time. "i lived through the actual experience, i think you'll survive witnessing the fact that i survived" bars tbh. very well put into words
#yea i remember that post i made ranting abt how if youre traumatized youre expected by some ppl to just not talk abt it except when they ask#abt your life thats just.... your life... so how tf are you supposed to answer when just u talking abt what u went through is 'trauma dumpin#g'#i hate so much of this sort of modern expectation of interaction this is not how u for relationships#this is why i like ppl whove been through shit đ¤ˇââď¸ u be real i be real and we'll get each other
