there is not enough femslash in batcest circles. the girls deserve to be just as weird about each other as the boys are. if BruDick gets to be weird father/son/brothers/lovers/friends/rivals/soulmates then it is only fair that Babs/Cass get to be mother/daughter/sisters/lovers too. Something about that deep intrinsic but undefinable love that is born out of trauma, especially if you consider Cass not knowing what healthy love looks like in the first place. i think it's fun and deserves just as much fandom content.

besides that, you can get even more niche with rarepairs like Helena/Steph. Huntress/Spoiler: Blunt Trauma is already a fantastic comic and even though it's their only real canon interaction it has so much potential. very comparable to TimJay in how Helena tries to get Steph to understand her morals and the corruption you could play with it.

that comic also highlights on how both Steph and Helena are outcasts of the Batfamily and don't have the approval of Bruce to be doing what they do in "his city". I think there's so much Potential in Helena taking Steph under her wing because Bruce won't let her in and it becomes a weird codependent toxic sapphic mess. I think the protectiveness Helena feels over Steph from the get-go is so clear and the way she wants to look out for Steph, wants to make sure Steph understands the real world? I love them. Helena should be allowed to steal Steph, actually. I think it'd be fun.

there are a lot of other possibilities too like Babs/Steph or even getting weird with Helena Bertinelli/Helena Wayne and the existential question of "is it selfcest or not." But these two specifically live in my head rent-free, especially Helena/Steph and one day I'll convince everyone else to ship it too.

Kinda funny to me how Kara hasn't really been herself since her reintroduction in post-crisis while Linda Danvers/Matrix who's supposed to be a completely different character is basically just pre-crisis Kara with a different backstory and some new powers

Like there's obviously the name Linda Danvers, but then we also have

Fred Danvers as her father

Dick Malverne as her love interest

Her passion for art

Also just her personality in general

I think about these panels so often. pre-crisis kara who grew up on split-off argo is sooooo argh there's so much that can be done with it

like where she grew up there was no nature, the ground was completely covered in lead, they got their food from a machine, their atmosphere was artificial. argo was small with limited space and everything that was natural was dangerous. earth must have felt so big and strange in comparison.

April 1983. What makes "The Autobiography of Bruce Wayne" (in THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #197) so devastating is that writer Alan Brennert forces both Bruce and Selina to come clean: why they each do what they do, and why neither of them really sees a way out. The reason the ending hits is not just that Bruce and Selina get together at last; it's that Bruce has to accept that there will be no endgame for him until he lets go of the things he's been clinging to for 30 years.

The reference here to an amnesia charade is actually not Brennert's invention (although Selina's account of her abusive early marriage is). In BATMAN #62, back in 1950, Selina had suffered a blow to the head and claimed that her identity as Catwoman was the result of having been injured in a plane crash years earlier that left her with amnesia. Batman bought this, somehow, and Selina actually retired for a couple of years, but the amnesia story seemed fishy even at the time, and she subsequently returned to her life of crime. (She escaped at the end of her last Golden Age appearance in DETECTIVE COMICS #211, although in this story, she's apparently been captured and sent back to prison subsequent to that.) Brennert starts from the premise stuff about amnesia was indeed a lie (which is not a great stretch if you read her early '50s appearances), and asks why she would make up such an outlandish story.

yeah that was what i was referring to, too. this framing of catwoman being her evil , almost demonic, side that stands in the way of her being a good person is gonna come up fairly often and its usually framed in this weirdly catholic way where she is the 'fallen woman' that needs to find her way back to the light

ohh.. yeah. well. i'm definitely not a fan of that 😭 actually can i just say "the masked costume is their dark side... their nefarious alternate personality" seems to be so many batman writers go-to when writing a supposedly sympathetic version of any character. can we do something else

What do think about dick/talia

so Talia is one of those tricky characters for me where i read all the wrong content for her to begin with.so for the longest time i had a piss poor understanding of her and i'm still trying to. rectify that, Grant Morrison when i catch your ass-

but i do have a newfound love for her and i think she and Dick have an interesting relationship. bc they can't stand each other. so i do see the potential for shipping them! i wouldn't say it's a ship i seek out to would ever personally write, but if a fic/art/concept using the ship was top-notch, i would absolutely be into it.

bc there's a lot of fun stuff to play with for them. these two do not get along in canon and it always seems to be such a personal hatred, it's so funny. they dislike working together the rare times they do and tend to be at odds for the typical reasons you'd expect like morality and all. but they always seem to respect each other, which is the fun of it. i love an enemies to lovers situation that's rooted in respect. i think my favorite version of this ship would be the Pre-Crisis version, bc they just always seemed to have issues, usually fighting over Bruce. it's so antagonistic and i love that.

and of course, the fun of it is where Damian falls. because Talia and Dick are both parental to Damian, but clearly have wildly different opinions on what raising Damian should look like. so it'd cause interesting conflict if they were dating how they would be forced to find a middle ground and Damian's just. stuck in the middle. honestly Damian's reaction to their relationship could be fun in general, bc i do think it'd send him through all the stages of grief at once.

all in all, i think there's a ton of nuance that would make a really fun ship, whether you played it straight or took it in a dead dove direction. forcing these two together and seeing them slowly fall for each other is absolutely in character for both of them. tbh if Talia wasn't created to be Bruce's love interest, she and Dick probably would've kissed by now. they do always have an interesting tension when they're on page together. i could see Talia getting obsessed with Dick in a way- his purity, the way he's a virtuous light to the entirety of the hero community. how she would try to get him to see her side could be a lot of fun in a corruption kink sort of way. lots of potential for these two.
