I headcanon that Ranpo has strabismus (aka walleye) and that's part of why his eyes are closed. It made people take him more seriously and he was also embarrassed by it. He still keeps his eyes closed because it helps him not overanalyze everything, but he's not as embarrassed anymore.

Also, Pidge cheats at Uno.)

losing your memories. and waking up. and someone treats you so kindly and lovingly that you know, immediately, in the bones of you, that they love you. and the feeling in your chest even if your brain doesnt remember of love for them tells you clearly that this person is your soulmate. i am going to LOSE IT

I hope this is okay, I don't have autism or meltdowns, so feel free to let me know if I've gotten anything wrong. I don't think the reader in this has a meltdown, he was distressed and then stims to regulate his emotions. But yeah, feel free to let me know if I get anything wrong, I don't want to offend anyone or anything.

"(Y/N)? What's wrong-"

"Can you just fuck off?!" Everyone falls silent as the words burst from your mouth. You immediately look down, mentally scolding yourself for yelling at Hotch like that. Hotch. Of all people. Who had been nothing but kind to you since you joined. Who always made sure you were okay. Who was also your boss. "I- I'm sorry-" Your voice is quiet and Hotch has to strain his ears to hear you.

Instead of yelling, like everyone assumed he would, his gaze softens as he looks at you. "How about we head up to my office for a few minutes, okay?" His voice is reassuring and is doing nothing for your guilt and the dread for what he would say when it was just the two of you.

You hadn't meant to snap at him, but everything had just built up and built up and it was your tipping point. You should have just gone home.

It had started this morning when it turns out you had run out of milk - meaning you couldn't have cereal and a cup of coffee for breakfast. Then, you couldn't find the socks you had planned on wearing, you missed the early bus because of how long you had tried to find the socks you wanted to wear, and that made you almost late for work. And then, when you opened the fridge, it turns out someone had eaten the last of your safe foods you kept stocked up in the fridge.

You knew no one on the team would have taken it, they knew you were particular about your food (that's how you had worded it when you first joined the team - they knew the reasoning behind it now, of course but its still how you described it). And they always tried their best to make sure that you had food in the fridge that you liked.

You follow him to his office silently, you don't miss the look he shoots the rest of the team - who quickly make themselves look busy. So you don't feel more on edge than you already do. Your heart twinges at this. You had just yelled at him and here he was, being incredibly sweet to you.

When you reach his office, he shuts the door gently behind him and motions to the couch, you sit. "You don't have to speak until you're ready, whatever you need to do to help regulate your emotions is okay."

You take a moment to process his words before you give a small nod. It takes a few seconds before you gently start to rock, humming gently to yourself. Hotch sits down on the couch, at the other end. He wanted you to know he was there if you needed him, but enough space to do what you needed to. He slowly picked up the book on the coffee table, flicking to the page he was currently on.

Eventually, when your stimming comes to an end, Hotch closes the book. He had been keeping a close eye on you, not really paying attention to the book. He had just wanted to make you comfortable.

"You weren't reading," You state quietly.

"I wasn't," Hotch says with a nod.

"Thank you," You reply. You knew what he was doing - he had done it a few times during similar situations.

"That's alright," He gives a small (rare) smile, "Did you want to talk about what's going on?"

"It's just been a bad day." You shrug, "No coffee, no breakfast, wrong socks, and now no safe food," You felt your cheeks tint pink ever so slightly in embarrassment.

Hotch just nods, "I understand. What snack in particular were you craving?"

"I wanted a chocolate muffin," You shrugged, running a hand over your face. All you could think about was how stupid this all was.

"Is that the Starbucks one?" When you nod, Hotch smiles slightly and rummages about in his desk. "I had a feeling that this might happen at some point. So I stocked up on your safe foods." He said, pulling out a muffin. "There you go. As for drinks, take whatever you fancy,"

You look up, eyes slightly wide at the unexpected kindness. "Thank you,"

"That's alright, and (Y/N)?"

"Yeah?"

"Anytime you're feeling overwhelmed, or if the day isn't going quite right, you're more than welcome to come sit up here, okay?"

"Okay."

Cats The Musical Autism Headcanons

because these kitties are autistic okay!! honestly i think all the characters can be autistic these are just the ones i have specific ideaz for :3

mungojerrie & rumpleteazer (cause the twins definitely share some traits lol)

- the talking talkers… they’re both hyper-verbal :) while their chattiness can sometimes help with their schemes (they like to engage a friendly policeman in conversation!) but usually they just talk cat’s ears off cause they like talking

- always up in each other’s space, these two have very little sense of personal space and are always grabbing each other’s shoulders/arms or leaning on each other, snuggling, or generally being close to each other

- both love jumping up and down or running around to stim! sometimes they link arms and run in a circle for minutes at a time just to get their energy out

- they’re pretty spontaneous when it comes to their heists, usually jumping into it before fully working out a plan, but both can get very upset when something goes wrong/doesn’t go their way

mungojerrie

- TERRIBLE with eye contact, he’s always looking at everything except the person he’s talking to. definitely adds to his kinda ‘shifty’ reputation

- loves oral stimming, usually chewelry or something of the sort, but will absentmindedly chew on p much anything in his reach (pens, plastic, teazer’s arm, etc)

- has poor volume control, tends to talk just a bit too loud or too quiet depending on the situation

- tends to accidentally interrupt/talk over others cause he doesn’t really understand their cues

rumpleteazer

- very touchy-feely… but only on her terms! she loves initiating snuggles hugs or play-fights, but if someone touches her when she’s not expecting/in the mood, she won’t hesitate to take a swipe at em (jerrie is usually the only exception)

- tippy-toe walks alllll the time. helpful for moving quietly when she needs to but will do it for no reason at all

- loves to give cats nicknames, but doesn’t understand how they work so just decides on random nouns to call her friends

- has a hard time understanding metaphors and sarcasm

- THE STIMMER!! she loves to stim! usually flapping her paws, tapping her toes, or bouncing in place, but pretty much any repetitive movement is a stim for her <3

- related to her stimming, she cannot sit still! she’s always moving around, playing with toys, or shifting from side to side even when she’s supposed to stay still

- loves to knit or crochet with jenny, since its repetitive and keeps her hands busy, plus she gets a cute scarf at the end!

- has echolalia, she often repeats words/sounds other cats say, usually just to feel it in her mouth

mistoffelees

- non/semi-verbal, only speaks when he’s very comfortable or around certain cats (like victoria or tugger)

- loves to perform but is naturally quite shy and quiet, so tends to lean on his ‘stage persona’ to express his more dramatic and expressive side! when he isn’t in that mindset though he’s very aloof

- very diligent about keeping himself clean and tidy. he can feel when even one tuft of fur is out of place and it BOTHERS him

- has hypersomnia, he’s always sleepy and gets worn out pretty quick (especially after his bigger magical feats)

- has very specific day to day routines (wakes up at a specific time, visits the junkyard on specific days of the week, etc) gets really frustrated and stressed if they’re interrupted or changed

- he’s a house-cat, but refuses to wear a collar (he hates how it feels)

sillabub

- didn’t speak for a long time growing up, but at like age 4 (in cat years) suddenly started speaking in full sentences. demeter was very surprised

- has a (terrifying) habit of slipping into this wide-eyed hundred yard stare when she zones out. it took a while for everyone to get used to that

- very sensitive to lights and colors, she’s the first to notice when the light shifts ever so slightly, and too-bright lights or colors are very overstimulating for her

- doesn’t like being touched except by her moms and sister (demeter & bomba and electra, respectively) and even then only in certain moments

- special interest is the night sky, she knows all the names of the constellations and can tell you the phase of the moon on any given night

- makes A LOT of eye contact

Anyways, I have a question about John Price. Since you've mentioned on multiple posts that his father was not good to him, do you think Price ever celebrated his birthday or was given anything during the occasion growing up? Or do you think that as he grew up he never saw the point about it until accidentally mentioning it to his team or even Mac during his time as a sargent (idk if that's how it's spelled) while extremely drunk. (Also I mentioned Mac cause I remember you saying that you like writing him cause you don't have to go all proper British English lol)

I also have a question for you specifically, what's your favorite color/s and your favorite dinosaur?

Helloooooo, you've set yourself up for a rant here so I apologise in advance. Firstly, no need to apologise for me having to grab my glasses I'm just partially blind as shit. I can see the words but without glasses, it's hard to focus on them or process them without the spectacles.

Secondly, I have autism and OCD so my favourite colours are sorted into tiers based on importance as are my favourite dinosaurs. Top tier colours are blue-toned purples, dark red, black [technically not a colour but that's a whole other conversation], teal and forest green. My top-tier dinosaurs are the t-rex, spinosaurus, diplodocus, ankylosaurus and velociraptors. They're basic but they're goated. Sorry, I had to have five colours and five dinosaurs or it'd grate on me.

"What is this?" John looks far too taken aback for such a simple gesture. Concern spreads across the young sergeant's face as he looks over Mac's desk.

It's nothing special, he hadn't wanted to overwhelm the younger man with some big surprise party or dragging them all out for birthday drinks. There are two takeout containers, both from the Indian takeaway that John had sheepishly admitted he was fond of one night. On "John's side" of the desk there's a small black box, no name or brand across the packaging.

"It's yer birthday dinner, noo get yer arse on the chair. It's getting cauld."

John closes the door behind him and hesitantly sits down, looking between the takeout container and the suspiciously plain black box beside it.

"What's in the box?"

He offers the Englishman a soft smile as he nudges the box towards his hand. "It's yer birthday, son. Yer supposed tae open it and say thank you."

John had let it slip the last time they went drinking after a mission gone right, mentioned that his birthday was coming up and how he'd never done anything for it. He'd never wanted to the older he got.

The sergeant narrows his eyes at him, a faint hint of frustration visible in the tenseness of his shoulders. There was a reason he'd made it a quiet, one-on-one celebration. The lad would've lashed out in front of a group.

But John, ever the good soldier follows his order and opens the box cautiously. He watches John register the gift and look back up to him, face full of painfully youthful confusion.

"What's this?"

He sighs, eyes flicking between John and the watch he's holding. It's a simple thing, a plain watch with a brown leather strap. Sophisticated but still casual.

"It's a watch. Ma father bought me wan on my eighteenth, ye should've got wan on yours. If yer auld man willnae step up then a'll just huv tae, every gid man deserves a watch. Yours is just a wee bit late."

For both their sakes he pretends not to notice the wet shine to John's eyes before he blinks rapidly and suddenly it's gone.

"Thanks." He utters softly, ever so carefully placing the watch back in the box. He knows the lad will put it on in his own time, try it on and stare at it as if it's some kind of unfathomable gift of riches instead of a simple watch from his superior. That was John's right, something he had to process in his own time.

"Eat up, son. Yer tea's getting cauld."

Ford Pines Headcanons Part 01

Feral Ford

Yep. Sending over that. As it was said, this side of Ford was initially created during moments of high stress and adrenaline and a need for self-preservation, where rational thought gets pushed aside. It escalated during his stays on 'wild' planets.

Experimented On

Ford was born with brown eyes, like his brother. However, at some point during the early years of his travels, Ford gets kidnapped by some unethical organization and was experimented on. Said experiments caused his eyes to change color, along with strange patterned irises (which you can't notice unless you look reeaal close) plus gaining a bit of tapetum lucidum. The experiment also gave him something like an enhanced healing factor, though it doesn't heal most scarring, plus some enhanced strength, speed, and agility. Not by much, but very much noticeable, especially at his current age.

Phobias

Ford has had many phobias over the years. His main one being his fear of snakes. His other fears are eyes (usually multiple eyes at once) and being stared at. He's also not a fan of the idea of hospitals because of the headcanon above this. He's afraid of someone finding something inhuman in his body.

Ace of Spades

Perhaps this is me projecting a little. Sure, Ford had a prom date and, apparently, dated a siren. The prom date ended with the girl throwing fruit punch on Ford for some reason (maybe he said something unintentionally insulting?) and it's unknown what happened with the siren...maybe they tried to eat him?

Disowned

Filbricks disowned Ford when he noticed that Ford's choice of study wasn't going to make them rich and Ford refused to change. The disownment left Ford feeling worthless. A moment of vulnerability that Bill will take advantage of.

Still Wanted

Even if Bill's gone, I'm pretty sure that some of the actions Ford has done during his travels has garnered the attention of many intergalactic governments and/or people of interest. So, his bounty remains active.

A ‘Better’ World No More

The 'Better World' where Stan listened to Ford and took Journal 1 away from Gravity Falls and Ford and Fidds founded Oddology? Ford no longer sees it as the 'better' world because it doesn't have his brother and niblings in his life.

Trauma

Boy howdy! Along with having major trust issues and permanent scarring, c-PTSD is also present. Along with occasional seizures because of the electrical torture he went through.

ADHD/Autism

Again, projecting here. lol

Memories Lost

This is after his surgery for the metal plate in his skull. A risk was some memory loss. Nothing major, but could still be a concern. Ford felt it was a good trade. Some memories for a way to protect himself from Bill? Sure! And he seems to be doing pretty well afterwards, so maybe the memories lost weren't anything important... Probably.

top 5 soulsborne NPCs... OTHER than patches. and top 5 games you hope to play next year!

Honestly I can't answer the second one since my autism is too unpredictable with when it allows me to actually sit down and play a new game, but I've got PLENTY of soulsborne npcs I'd love to gush about (besides the legend himself) so let's get to it!

Solaire:

May as well get the obvious out of the way lol. There's honestly SO MUCH going on with Solaire's character and motivations that goes far beyond the reasons he's usually so beloved. Yes, he's a genuine ray of sunshine willing to go out of his way to help us in such a desolate, cruel world, has a extremely pleasing/memorable design + wonderful voice acting, and is canonically bisexual. Obviously there's a lot to love from all of his surface level interactions.

...But he's also far more complex than simply being a nice person! He's a regular human devoting himself to an impossible mission solely for his own sake, and his doubts and desperation over it hits me so hard, especially in his regular ending T_T. I always found this quest to find his sun to be a metaphor for self-discovery as a means of fighting back against depression. I think Solaire knows fully well how terrible this dying world has become and has possibly even lived a bad life considering how happy he was to become undead and travel to Lordran, using his quest as a means of staving off the dread in his soul before it turns toward any suicidal inclinations.

No I'm not being edgy. I truly think all of this is intentional to his character, much like how I think the entirety of DS1's view on hollowing is a metaphor for depression and/or barring oneself from the world vs. actively opening up to it. That's why it's so important to support our grossly incandescent friend and Praise the Sun! ☀️

Griggs & Laurentius:

Decided to put them together since they're both very similar characters in my eyes.

I've found (on this site at least) that these two are often overlooked compared to most other DS1 characters, and honestly that's a damn shame since they've got so much to offer outside of their very useful magic teachings. For starters they're both sad, pathetic men who immediately love you for saving them from their own embarrassing predicaments which I think more games need for their male npcs lol. In all seriousness though, I always felt the game did a great job giving them so much character in each of their interactions; both in how close they grow to you and in how much they care about their respective crafts of magic. The pair also have similarly sad stories regarding what they lack, with Griggs's incredibly low sense of self-worth when he compares himself to Logan and Laurentius having always been an outcast even in his own community.

What I'm saying is that they're both much deeper (and also more tragic) characters than I feel they're given credit for, and I wish the rest of fandom would talk more about them.

Mephistopheles:

Sometimes a character doesn't have to be super deep for me to love them. Sometimes they can simply be an incredibly evil woman with a deep voice and great design who manipulates you until finally betraying you when you least expect it. 🐍⚜️🖤

With Mephistopheles I can actually understand why not too many soulsborne fans talk about her since she's probably the most obscure character in the entirety of Demon's Souls: one who requires you to have a pure black character tendency (which requires you killing non-hostile npcs to get) in order to even see her. As of now I haven't had the guts to try her questline yet, but I do plan on it trying it for my next DeS playthrough because holy hell is she hot- uh, I mean really a interesting character! Even though I said earlier I don't think she's as deep as several other npcs in the game, she's still a character with a lot of juicy lore surrounding the organization she runs and her choice of manipulating people into killing her targets instead of getting her hands dirty herself.

Also I fucking hate her Remake design oh my god it's so fucking bad I just wanna throw up everywhere what the fuck were they thinking T_T

Lucatiel:

My favorite character from DS2 (with Straid and Ornifex following very close behind), and of course she's basically just that game's Solaire equivalent with a gender bending design. My tastes are so predictable lol.

Besides her INCREDIBLE design and amazing voice acting, I feel out of all the npcs she does the best job at conveying this game's theme of connecting hollowing to identity. She comes into this land with so little regard for herself and already suffering early memory loss from the slow hollowing she's going through, and but unlike the other npcs (who are actually affected by the curse in any way) we have the chance to save her through our cooperation and going out of our way to engage with and get to know her. In this sense I see her as the reverse of Solaire's quest and honestly wish future soulsborne characters played around with the series' character tropes as well as she did.

Also she's trans. It's canon and I accept no criticism for saying this ;-)

Greirat:

I haven't finished DS3 yet but oh my soul do I love this little thieving rat man so much <3<3<3

I'm almost too afraid to say more yet since I haven't finished his questline and thus technically haven't fully absorbed him as a character yet. So far though he's done so much to endear me to him! His questline with the blue tearstone ring and overall connection to the Undead Settlement gets me soooooo emotional, as does his withered voice and charming demeanor despite all the horrors he's had inflicted on him and his few loved ones.

And of course that's not even getting into how a certain other npc interacts with him during his questline, but I cannot say any more since you specified not to mention him this time despite how much it PAINS me not to. All I'll say is that I am beyond disappointed in most of this fandom for sleeping on these two characters' relationship with each other -_-

ok im sick as hell and unfortunately also very bored so im gonna write down some silly naeishimondo scenarios ive been brainrotting for a while

Makoto being sick like me and staying home, meanwhile both taka and mondo barge into his house, bringing in homemade soup and tea (both of which makoto already got), and while they're being sad over the fact their favorite little guy wont be at the academy with them for the rest of the week, komaru steals the soup and tea cuz she woke up sick too (from makoto). An alt ending is them giving makoto a Liiiittle kiss on the forehead, both of them thinking they wont get sick, and waking up with 40°C temperature the next day

Them all going to mondo's house for a hangout-sleepover bcuz hes the only one of the three with a queen-sized bed (lil context, after mondo quit being a biker gang leader [in a universe where daiya is alive cuz fuck you] him and his brother move to a more. "calm" place, just the two of them. they still hangout w the other gang members though). they all watch movies and taka drops dead snoring the second the clock hits 10pm bcuz his brain cant handle staying up later for "no reason" (he has pulled all nighters when it comes to studying). mondo falls asleep second, and makoto just watches them sleep peacefully before snuggling between them and going to sleep too (imagine cringing over what ur writing help)

Going home in the snowy weather after shopping all evening (taka made them both come with him). theyre all holding equal amount of bags, until mondo grabs them all and speedruns to their house cuz hes FREEZING, and boy oh boy does he not like the cold at all. after that he sticks himself to the heater for like 10 minutes, while makoto and taka think to themselves that he looks like hes purring next to it (they both assigned him a catboy in their heads cuz it makes him 10 times cuter (also my version of him has a default >:3 face that all owada family members have (its more noticable on daiya but still))

Continuing the last one, theyre cooking together now!!! mondo kinda sucks at it, makoto is trying his best, and taka is this 🤏 close to chewing a brick over how they cut the vegetables (they look chunky (his autism can't stand it, meanwhile their autisms dont care/dont even notice it (no im not projecting not at all))). eventually they make a nice meal (of unknown kind cuz i can never think of foods LMFAO) and it turned out surprisingly good. yum!

Pet assigning. as i mentioned makoto n taka have assigned mondo a cat/catboy, but the same applies for the others. taka is a dog, obviously, but specifically a husky BECAUSE (im gonna be so annoying about this): Hes black and white, hes dramatic and loud like how huskies are, very loving (as every dog), and when his hair grows out more and mondo touches it, it reminds him of how fluffy huskies' fur is. makoto is a bunny, but i unfortunately dont know many bunny breeds so i will probably elaborate more once i look up and decide. hes just short/"small" and silly like one, and his ahoge going down when hes sad resembles bunny ears going down. (btw if ur curious mondo is either a tiger (still a cat!!!) or a persian cat. bcuz i cant help but imagine him as a chonky orange persian cat that on one occasion scratches your eyes, and on another cuddles on your shoulders. la creatura)

AAA I’m so glad someone sent me this… Grim my everything. My confidant… my best friend… my silly rabbit 😏 But for real, where do I even begin with him?

He started off as a character I made specifically to be able to RP when I was at my lowest, mentally and energy-wise. He’s grown, as I have, and he changed me, honestly. For the better. 

At his conception he was a gruff, depressed, duty-bound and anxious mess that saw himself as nothing but a burden on all he interacted with. He was also cishet (lol) and my first OC I ever really RP’ed out in the world in WoW rather than with a friend, so I didn’t really know what I was allowed to do, or how to interact with folks, so, neither did he. Autism runs deep, as usual.

His past is… more than troubled, in every way I could think up at the time. When I made him, I made him to suffer, as I had been in my mental health pit for years with no hope of getting out. And I wanted to be able to relate. So I gave him aggressive, pushy parents, a line of failures, and a desolate disposition. And yet, seemingly on his own, he developed this will. This desire to improve, to be better than he was the day before, and to help people. He wanted to be better. So, I did too.

He talks little of his past, save for those who he’s close to and have the courage to ask. His plethora of scars aren’t for show, so to speak. He recalls each one’s origin, the one crossing his eye coming to his memory only in flashes. Only in nightmares, buried in his memory.

As a teen he roamed Darkshore, a ghost of a person shrouded in grief and rage. He was found, eventually, by a special someone that allowed him to call her Maggie. She led him to Moonglade where, after months of much struggle in trying to communicate without being able to form words in his worgenistic mouth, began training there under one Katrena Elswith, a disgraced druidic teacher who was the only one who agreed to be his Shan’do.

All of this happened in backstory however, and much more happened beyond this too. He eventually completed his training and joined the effort in the Tanaan Jungle, intending to meet death there, but managing to find a small glimmer of purpose, instead.

Early on in his RP days, he was asked to join a guild as one of the officers (little did they know he was nineteen. His troubles aged him beyond what others thought), and at a guild function he met someone special: Alythae Wildsong.

Where would he even be without Aly? Their relationship progressed quickly, possibly quicker than he wanted, but it was real. She taught him that he could be loved. That he deserved love. He was more than what he could give others. And he taught her, too. An exchange, entirely coincidental at first, and then fully voluntary. 

They went on adventures after adventures together. Some dangerous, some relaxed, some downright ridiculous. But they worked through them together, hands locked together in a bond as they discovered things about each other, and things about themselves that they did not know. Deception. And blood magic. Oh, the blood magic.

He nearly lost himself to it, during the Fourth War. The blight in Darkshore was destroying his body, despite his attempted protections, and he was nearly killed by it. A necessary evil, he thought. His fur gone, his skin blight-pocced, he delved into it. It felt… natural, for reasons he could not yet explain why. 

And yet, it was consuming him.

Aly brought him back. Cleansed him enough for him to make a recovery. But he found the magic…innate, somehow. He learned why, eventually, but that’s not something he likes to share pretty much ever. Regardless, he and Aly finally  got married in December after several long years of engagement, and now happily live together in Feralas! Along with their many animals, and Grim’s animal scouts, and of course their dog Pippin. 

This has already gone on WAY longer than I intended but this feels just like the tip of the iceberg lol. I know this is cheesy but having Grim, knowing what he’s gone through and still he continues on… it gives me reason to be better, too. If he can go through all that and still be a good person, I can too. Without Aly he wouldn’t be half the character he is today, so thank you so much to @tyranduh you mean so much 2 me.

With Dottore it depends on which segment we're talking about, because they're all different. Most of them are like 80% or more robotic, but the older ones like Omega are closer to 40 or 50%. 

Prime, the original, my babygirl, has prosthetic arms from the elbow down. His left leg is also completely prosthetic. He's mostly deaf and has a cochlear implant. He went blind in his left eye after an experiment in the akademiya, so he replaced it with a cybernetic eye. He still wears glasses, though, since he's nearsighted in the right eye and farsighted in the left (He wanted to be able to see as far as possible, but forgot that he had to see up close. Never bothered to fix it since he has glasses lol). So technically he has anisometropia. His mask has a sort of visor in it so he can still see out, but nobody can see in. He built in his prescription lenses so he has better than 20/20 vision when he's wearing the mask. He’s also got anisocoria.

He had Eleazar when he was younger, which is part of the reason he began researching it. He ended up curing himself after making his first ever segment (now long dead), and wanted to see if he could cure it without the help of clones. Spoiler: nah. Anyway he has scale-shaped Eleazar scars on his neck.

He has chronic migraines and has to take meds every day. He makes all his medicine himself because he doesn't trust anybody else, not even his clones. 

Oh, and he has autism. Can’t forget that

He really likes biting things, so you'll find a plethora of chewed up pens and pencils in his lab. Before he had prosthetic arms, he never had nails because he constantly bit them. Not many people know this, it's pretty much just him and his segments, but he also likes to bite people to show affection. Pulcinella got him a sensory chew necklace for his birthday one year and he's rarely seen without it. Ever since then, Pulcinella drops off random chewable sensory toys to keep him occupied. 

Dottore has a room in Haeresys full of plants. Not because he's studying them or anything, he just likes gardening. He tells everyone they're for research, though. He's a plant dad. 

He has a lab cat, too. Her name is Marie and she's a Siberian. Sandrone once suggested getting a pet to help keep him company, and he (reluctantly) did just that. He made sure to get one that was hypoallergenic but still soft and fuzzy, and ended up finding Marie, an sweet little kitten with a missing leg. Shockingly, he was charmed and took her home, building her a prosthetic leg and the best life a kitty could ask for. Marie keeps out mice and other small animals, keeping his lab nice and clean without him needing to raise a finger. She's also pretty low maintenance, only really needing to sit with him while he does paperwork. Dottore's not really sure how to handle cats, so he's always pretty awkward when he pets her, but she doesn't mind. 

He keeps the organs of his favorite assistants in jars on his desk. The extra special ones get their eyes or their heart in a jar. It's his fucked up way of keeping their memory alive. 

He has notebooks filled with the medical information and weaknesses of all of the harbingers. They all have to go into Haeresys for a biannual checkup, so he makes the most of it by learning how to hurt them in the most efficient ways possible. He's the harbingers' primary physician for…well, everything. Medical, dental, psychological, all of it. He's even nice enough to build custom prosthetics and update them whenever needed.

One of Dottore’s segments is transfem. While the segments are all named after letters in  the Greek alphabet, she is referred to as Zahra most of the time. And, yes, all of the segments have "normal" names for social reasons, but Zahra is pretty much the only one who's referred to by her chosen name as opposed to her letter.

Zandik has 12 (conscious) segments. He claims that he has this many so that he can be as efficient as possible, but it's really so that, if worst comes to worst, he'll always be able to outnumber the other harbingers. He has a lot of other segments (one for each Greek letter), but they're all just husks made to do grunt work when there are no assistants around.

Xe sees Columbina as a little sister and would protect her with xyr LIFE.

Alpha / Anwir

Often chats with Zahra when he's bored (which is almost never since he's always doing something)

Trains a LOT. He has his own personal combat training area. Childe tries to spar with him and ends up with at least one broken bone within seconds.

I agree with you (mostly), especially about the importance of treating subtitles and descriptive audio as part of production.

As a captioner, we, like editors, are often limited by the in-house guides gives to us by our clients and/or our employers, and so I would say that most of the time the reason that captions aren't verbatim is because, in my experience with various guidelines given to me (which, if I don't follow, I'll lose my job), you're not allowed to have three lines of text on the screen which limits perfect verbatim captions.

This is because subtitles generally can't cross a scene change, or because a subtitle can only be displayed for seven seconds (or so), and it can only have a certain amount of characters in it, including grammatical characters. Obviously they also have to remain onscreen long enough to be read which is generally one second, or half a second in special circumstances and if the sentence is short enough.

Depending on the speed of the character or person speaking, it's not always possible to include everything they say, especially when it's impacted by other factors like shot changes etc.

There are also other visual cues given to the viewer besides text. There's burn-ins, body language, locations, all kinds of little and big visual moments that aren't dialogue that are important for the viewer to be able to see (or hear in video description) to understand the plot. If you're spending all your time reading what they're saying, verbatim, you're missing a big part of the film. Our main goal as captioners is to give all viewers -- Deaf, HoH, people with auditory processing disorder, autism (like me), and anyone else who needs or uses subs) an experience as close to the intended experience as possible. You're not here to read a book, you're here to watch a film, so we want the film to be watchable, we want you to have time to catch what's happening onscreen, while also being able to read subtitles.

As for condensing, I hate it, but sometimes it's necessary. Sometimes subtitles are condensed based on the character limit that the client or your company gives you. This exists because your auditory system can generally process information at a faster rate than your eyes can process it. So captioners have to condense the text because what the person onscreen is saying is able to be understood by a hearing person faster than someone who is relying solely on subtitles could process it.

I've always said that there should be subtitles/captions, and then there should be a verbatim transcript also available as an extra. A document with timestamps that can be read on its own, without the film playing in the background. In my experience, I almost always reads screenplays when they are available, but even screenplays are rarely (if ever) verbatim for the film, and they do not include any improv, or any additions made by the actors or directors, but I'm also a person who has to re-watch films frame by frame so I can process everyone's facial expressions and what's happening visually, because of my autism. Until I can do this, I feel like I don't get the full experience of a film, but it's something I have to do after on my own time. I'm not saying this is right, or even fair. Personally, I enjoy my frame-by-frame film time. I'm just offering this as a solution or a suggestion. How can people who rely on subtitles get the full experience? What if they could have captions and a verbatim transcript? Why isn't the transcript of every freely-available video also freely available?

Captioners who have to condense usually don't like doing it, but they work hard to make sure that the meaning is as close to the hearing person's experience as possible. When condensing happens, it's often because it cannot be avoided.

Also, sometimes the client will not provide us a script for whatever reason. Maybe they forget, maybe they don't give a shit about disabled folks (without realizing disabled folks are making their captions lol), or maybe they forgot, maybe they also didn't have access to it. Either way, even if a script exists, the captioner may not necessarily have access to it.

Things like this, captions etc. are even more affected if they are translations.

I hear you, though. Like, I hear you. I hate nothing more than watching something to see that the captions are wrong (or worse, there's no captions at all). I was watching something just last night where the captioner wrote "(incoherent screaming)" when the words the character was screaming were clearly audible and easily transcribable. That was sloppy, it's unfair to the viewer, it makes me fucking outraged. Sometimes it happens, but most of us captioning our ass to make sure it doesn't.

But please also remember that while some captioners are paid well for their time, others (like me) are not. I do it because it's important to me that people who need subtitles have access to subtitles. It's fucking important to me.

Accessibility is important to me even though I don't rely on subtitles. Everyone should be able to watch videos or films and have the full experience.

I get paid less than minimum wage to do the work that I do, but even the people who are getting paid fairly are also facing massive layoffs at their companies as a result of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. I fully support these strikes, but I'm aware that both myself and my partner may lose our jobs because of them. That's just the way it is, because of a handful of greedy people who don't want to pay their workers. What I'm trying to say here is that currently captioners are under a lot of stress, our homes and jobs are at stake, too. Many are not getting paid fairly. Many captioners are also freelancers who are not paid for their very extensive training before they're thrown into the thick of it, and expected to keep their heads above water. But that's not an excuse for shoddy work.

That said, outside of these strikes, captioners often work on difficult or near-impossible deadlines.

But basically, yes, I agree with you, there's no excuse for bad subtitles, but a lot of the time subtitles are made by people like me who are underpaid, work long hours, and get absolutely no acknowledgement for their work in any credits, but do it because it's important to them. Sometimes we make mistakes, sometimes we mishear, sometimes we're bound by rules we don't like so that we can keep a roof over our heads and food on the table, but I know in my case, and in the case of the people I know who do this work, we really are trying our best, and it really fucking matters to us.

I, a hearing person who likes subtitles just as a preference, shouldn't have to read a subtitle that's obvious nonsense, go back a couple seconds, and listen again in order to figure out what's going on. An accessibility feature should not be the most half-assed part of a professionally made production. Scripted media has absolutely no excuse for not having subtitles or having subtitles that aren't perfectly verbatim. Professional captioning services should be ashamed of the shoddy work that they put out. Captions should be treated as a part of the production, just like filming, editing, audio balancing, etc - and anything that releases with missing or bad captions should be seen as unfinished

Aspd resonates with me as i have always had to fake or exaggerate my emotions to not make people feel weird about me, my whole personality tbh has become this fake constant mask so i don’t look like a zombie lol (witch i think has lead to my dpdr)

I have lost multiple family members and recently a family pet and have not really had any emotions about it, I comforted my sister but i just couldn’t relate to any of the sadness

My moods can honestly come out as muted and can be suppressed or change rapidly probably as they’re so fleeting idk

I can go weeks without looking after myself

I don’t have close friends or emotional connections because it just … has never happened if you get me, ive kind of just been living in my own little bubble, no matter how long i know someone ect i just don’t feel anything towards them, i could even be without family for weeks maybe months no contact (not to say i don’t sometimes like just sitting and talking to someone tho)

I don’t really ENJOY anything or get overly excited, life just seems boring especially now im 20 it’s becoming crippling, ive gone to even harry potter world and didn’t really care yk and it’s causing my anger to be more outward too

I sometimes lie or TWIST stories or make them up for no reason, i even side eye myself it just comes out

Despite appearing as strict and cold at first, when talking to him you would immediately realise he is such a caring person who is calm and collected and with a strong mother like nature towards everyone and especially his little sister. He tend to be more down to earth and logical yet he would not mind to mess around as well when he feel like it and only around those who he is comfortable with… He may get a bit too worried and paranoid at times tho~

About his Grandmother, the way she passed away is because she got a heart attack while trying her best to stop Gabriel’s biological father from harming him in which left Gabriel with a lot of guilt about it.

Due to his Parents abuse and how they used to hit him with a stick a lot behind his legs, there is some scars on his legs, not so noticeable now but if you take a closer look you can see them.

Despite everything, Gabriel dose not truly hate his parents yet he also dose not like them and of course would not forgive them for what they put himself through but he understands they also victims much like him and grew up in a strict household when they were young but sadly they ended up becoming much like their abuser. Even tho he still sometimes wonder if he should contact them after so long even after he faked his own death…

Gabriel holds a lot of guilt even when a lot of them were never his fault, he always feel as the oldest he should be responsible for a lot of things and when something bad happen he would assume is because he wasn’t strong or responsible enough.

His left eye had been removed all together so he doesn’t have any eye under his eyepatch but.

He has an eye glass that he sometimes wears but not too often and honestly he kinda forgot about it.

Has autism too (yay autism siblings!)

Would train a lot out in the garden
