god its so cool and Important how. despite all the bright colors and flash fabrics and jewelry, all of the socs are really just carbon copies of each other. theyve all got the same base, just recolored like a character selection page on a cheap game.
all the guys have their crisp, clean, bright shirt, their nice stiff pants, belt, and white shoes. add in some rings and maybe a chain or somethin, and thats about it. add on their matching letterman jackets, and theyre practically identical.
all of the girls have their pretty dresses and styled hair, but thats really it. their dresses all match the popular style at the time, their hair is perfectly placed and not really Theirs. theyre all styled to be popular, not individual.
and they're all so colorful! because they can afford new fabrics and bright colors and expensive dry cleaners to wash them, though they're careful not to get dirty. theyre so bright and colorful but so painfully similar
contrast that with the greasers, who are all relatively in the same color palette. theyre in basic t-shirts, and denims, and leathers. work clothes. theres no split based on gender, ace wears pants with the guys. they are all down in the dirt and grimey, they all have to move and work in these clothes.
but theres so much personality in their outfits! even just the little things, like jewelry or headbands, tells so much about each person. ace's headband is a scrap from the shirt on her back, showing her resourcefulness. darry's flannel and work pants showing his grit and hard work. the patches decorating steve's jacket, showing his passions and the things he fights for. Johnny's vest showing his heritage, and his too-big clothes showing how hes got hand-me-downs. two-bit's tattoos, shown proudly and boldly on his bare arm for the whole world to see.
the greasers might all look 'the same' at first glance because theyre all in grays and dirty whites and denims. but god there is so much more heart and character and diversity in their outfits and therefore in their lives simply because theyre not worrying about sticking in a top spot of society. theyre not worrying about individuality being a weakness to tear them down. theyve got much bigger things to think about. theyre so free in that sense. free to be themselves, free to be with each other and support each other. because thats all they got; their hearts and each other.
the socs dont have that connection. they dont have that chance to be vulnerable and share a part of themselves so constantly. they may live where the grass is greener but are they really so much better off, if they can never truly show themselves?
#this literally was supposed to be a costume analysis but it did turn into more of a character and society one#i just think its so cool how we all get so excited about. what will the new soc looks be like#when really theyre all so similar. theyre all almost identical#save for a few sweaters. theyre all button ups or dresses#and dont get me wrong i LOVEEEE wondering about the next new costume. i love that shit with all my heart#its just so interesting how much of a facade it kinda is#yea omg theyre all so different but theyre not really. its just the color or fabric. theres no individuality#and thats so important for the socs#they all must fit in and be the conglomerate perfect white americans#whereas the greasers all can truly be themselves because#why bother trying to fit in if its literally impossible for most of them#the only ones who could try would be the curtis brothers. and only one of them made any attempts at that#also. there could definitely be something to say about how paul is the only main soc guy not in a normal shirt#hes got the sweater#like hes the only soc guy thats A Little Different#and hes the only one who interacted positively (at one point) with a greaser#(bar cherry bc that happens in the current plot. please understand me here LMAO)#idk now im yapping#but godddd i love good costume and character design#this shit is so important in a story like this#a story about class and race and poverty and 'real' people#the outsiders musical#the outsiders broadway#costume design#ily sarafina bush and ur team

I was thinking of a request with one of the hughes brothers (your choice!! I cannot choose between them) x reader who works for the team in some capacity, where reader gets injured by a stray puck or something and their love interest totally outs himself by caring for/being protective over reader.
Obviously only if you think this is interesting!! Love your stuff!
Thank you for requesting! 💖 Hope you will like this as well.
Secrets and Slapshots Being the Devils’ photographer had its perks. You got to stand on the ice, snap the team’s best moments, and—most importantly—spend extra time with Luke Hughes. Not that anyone knew why that mattered. You and Luke had kept your relationship a secret for seven months, a choice born of practicality (dating a player while working for the team? Tricky) and a bigger, messier reason: your older brother, Curtis Lazar. Protective was an understatement. If Curtis found out you were with Luke—the youngest Hughes brother, no less—heads would roll. So you stuck to sneaky glances, stolen moments, and hushed talks behind closed doors.
It worked. Until it didn’t.
You were by the boards during practice, camera raised, framing a shot of Nico roofing a puck when—BAM. A rogue slapshot rocketed toward you, too fast to dodge. Pain exploded in your shoulder, sharp and blinding, the force slamming you back into the boards. You stumbled, vision blurring, a choked gasp escaping as your arm went limp, fingers buzzing with static. Your camera dangled from its strap, barely gripped in your good hand. Nausea surged, and you pressed your palm to your shoulder, trying to breathe through it.
The rink went quiet, then erupted.
“OH SHIT—”
“YO, YOU GOOD?”
Dawson Mercer skated next to you, panic etched on his face. “I didn’t mean to—I swear—”
Before you could respond, a furious shout cut through. “WHO THE HELL HIT HER?”
Your stomach dropped. Luke.
You looked up just in time to see him charging across the ice, stick tossed aside, eyes blazing.
“Ohhh, shit,” Jack muttered nearby. He knew his brother rarely got angry, but when he did, it never ended well.
“Luke, no—”
Too late. Luke’s fist crashed into Dawson’s jaw with a sharp crack, the sound cutting through the air. Dawson’s head jerked to the side, his body stumbling back as his hands flew up on instinct. For a second, he just stood there, blinking, dazed—like his brain hadn’t fully registered the hit yet.
“BRO, IT WAS AN ACCIDENT—”
“YOU HIT HER WITH A PUCK—” Luke’s voice trembled, fists still tight.
“IT WASN’T ON PURPOSE—”
“DOESN’T MATTER—”
Jack, Nico, and Bas lunged, grabbing Luke’s jersey as he strained toward Dawson, wild and unhinged.
“DUDE,” Jack groaned, wrestling him back. “Chill—”
“NO,” Luke snapped, still fighting against his teammates and brother’s hold. “HE HIT MY GIRLFRIEND—”
And then everything stopped.
Your heart slammed into your ribs. Girlfriend. Seven months of secrecy, gone in one furious outburst. You wanted to sink through the ice, but the way Luke stood there—chest heaving, daring anyone to step up—stirred something warm beneath the shock.
Jack’s jaw dropped. “Wait—YOU’RE DATING HER?”
Luke’s face went crimson. “I—uh—” He instantly knew he’d messed up.
Jesper skated closer, laughing hard. “Dude, you just outed yourself.”
“I hate all of you,” Luke muttered, dragging a hand over his face.
Jack smirked at you, eyebrows raised. “Damn, took a puck to the shoulder and you’re dating Luke? Talk about bad decisions.”
You rolled your eyes, pain slicing through as you tried to laugh. “Thanks for the concern.”
Luke was beside you in a flash, hands hovering, unsure where to touch. “Baby,” he said, voice low and thick with guilt. “Does it hurt badly?”
“Yeah,” you gritted out. “Like hell.”
His shoulders tensed, eyes darting to Dawson with barely-leashed anger. “I’m gonna—”
“Luke.” You grabbed his hand with your good one, squeezing weakly. “Accident happens. Breathe.”
But before Luke could get a word out, a sharp whistle cut through the air.
"What the hell is going on?"
Great. Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse.
Here came your worst nightmare—your brother, Curtis.
Your stomach sank as he skated over, gaze flicking between you, Luke, and Dawson—still rubbing his jaw, half-guilty, half-amused.
“Someone explain why Hughes punched Mercer,” Curtis demanded, voice edged with steel.
Luke straightened, completely unfazed. “He hit her with a puck. She’s hurt.”
Curtis’ eyes softened briefly as they landed on you, cradling your arm. “You okay?”
“It hurts,” you admitted, wincing, though you forced a smile for your brother.
His jaw ticked. Then he turned to Luke. “So you thought swinging was the move?”
“Yeah,” Luke said, his voice casual but there was something sharp in the way he spoke—like he didn’t quite understand why Curtis was making this harder than it had to be.
Curtis stepped closer, his eyes narrowing as he sized up Luke. The anger in his chest flared, but it was something else that was settling in—he knew. He’d pieced it together, the secret clicking into place. He just needed to hear Luke say it. “Why do you care so much, Hughes? What’s she to you?”
“She’s my girlfriend,” Luke said, his tone firm, yet there was an undeniable fierceness behind it as he locked eyes with your brother. “And I love her.”
The tension in the air grew heavy, thick, like the calm before a storm. In the distance, you could hear the guys muttering, probably betting on how long it’d take for things to escalate—whether Luke would end up with at least a bruise or if he’d walk away unscathed.
Curtis blinked, his gaze flicking between you and Luke as the weight of the words sunk in. You held your breath, your heart pounding, bracing yourself for the worst.
Before you could process it, Curtis lunged.
It was all instinct—your body moving faster than your mind. You stepped between them just as Curtis’s hands shot out, the force of his momentum catching you off guard. His palms slammed into your injured shoulder with a sickening crack.
Pain exploded through your body, white-hot and blinding. A sharp cry ripped from your throat as you hit the ice, your arm going completely useless beneath you.
The rink went deadly quiet again.
Luke saw red. Pure, unfiltered rage took over as he shoved Curtis back with a force that sent him stumbling. His voice was raw, furious. “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!.”
Curtis froze, his anger melting into something like shock as he looked down at you, crumpled on the ice. “Shit.”
Luke didn’t give him a second to recover. He took another step forward, fists trembling but unwavering, his voice low and lethal. “You wanna take a swing at me? Fine. But don’t you ever, ever touch her again.”
His words rang with a fierce conviction. “I love her, Curtis. Seven months, man. Seven months, and she’s the best thing in my life. I’ve been respectful for her sake—because I get it, you’re her brother, my teammate. But if you hurt her again, I swear to God, I’ll break your fucking hand.”
Curtis stared, his expression flickering between anger, guilt, and something else, something more vulnerable. After a long pause, he let out a slow breath. “It wasn’t on purpose. You know I’d never hurt her like that. I love her too…she’s my sister.” His voice cracked, and his gaze fell to you, still lying on the ice.
Luke didn’t soften. He wasn’t backing down. His fists remained clenched, his chest rising and falling with the force of his words. “I get it, Curtis. You’re protective. But if you hurt her again, I won’t hesitate to make you understand, just how far I’ll go to protect her.”
You tried to push yourself up, desperate to get Luke’s attention, but your shoulder flared with pain, and your vision swam. “Luke—”
His fury vanished under a minute, replaced by panic. He dropped to his knees beside you, hands hovering. “Baby, talk to me.”
Tears stung your eyes as you tried to speak. “It’s... bad.”You attempted to move your hand, but it didn’t respond at all, sending a wave of panic crashing through you.
“Okay, I got you.” He scooped you up, careful but firm, holding you close to his chest. “Team doc. Now.”
As Luke carried you off the ice, Curtis stood frozen, watching in silence. His gaze was hard to read—maybe respect, maybe regret—but something in his eyes shifted, betraying a hint of emotion.
—
The ride home was quiet, just the hum of the car and Luke’s soft “You okay?” whenever you winced. The doctor had strapped your arm into a sling—nasty bruise, minor strain, no fracture—but the ache still gnawed deep. Luke had insisted on driving, knuckles white on the wheel, worry carved into his face.
Now, in your apartment, the adrenaline has faded, leaving you exhausted. You leaned against the kitchen counter, watching Luke set down takeout bags he’d grabbed despite your lack of hunger.
“You holding up?” His voice was softer now. His dark green eyes met yours, searching, full of both tenderness and concern.
“Yeah,” you lied, managing a small smile. “I’m just tired. And my shoulder is killing me.”
He stepped closer, wrapping you in a gentle hug. “You should’ve let Curtis hit me.” A half-joke, but guilt shadowed his gaze.
You laughed, then winced as the movement jolted you. “Luke, stop. I’m okay.”
“You’re not,” he said, his voice leaving no room for debate. “Come on, let’s get you comfortable.”
He gently guided you to the couch, his hand warm on your lower back, and carefully eased you down. He fluffed the pillows, draped a blanket over your legs, and made sure you were comfortable. It was Luke, completely unguarded—raw with worry, soft with love—and it wrapped around you in a way that made the pain seem distant.
“Soup,” he said, heading to the kitchen. “You need food before the meds kick in.”
You didn’t argue, and honestly, you didn’t really want to. You weren’t hungry, but the thought of warm soup didn’t sound half bad.
Half an hour later, after a few spoonfuls—Luke holding the bowl because your good hand wasn’t enough—you felt the weight of helplessness settle in. Brushing your teeth, washing your face, taking a shower—things that used to be so simple now felt impossible. A lump caught in your throat.
Luke noticed the shift in your mood. “What’s wrong?” He set the bowl down on the coffee table, leaning in, his concern obvious.
You hesitated, a tired smile flickering across your lips. “I can’t move my arm. At all. I feel gross from practice, but…” You waved vaguely toward the bathroom, a bit embarrassed.
His eyes softened as he caught on. “You need help showering.” It wasn’t a question—just a simple fact.
“Yeah,” you muttered, a small laugh slipping through.
He rubbed the back of his neck, a faint blush creeping up his cheeks. “I can help. If you’re okay with it. I just don’t want you to make it worse.”
You couldn’t help but tease. “Yeah, it shouldn’t be weird. We’ve already... you know...” You trailed off, awkwardly trying to convince both yourself and him. Still, the situation felt different—vulnerable, exposed.
He cleared his throat, his blush deepening. “Alright, let’s get this over with,” he said, offering his hand, clearly trying to hide the discomfort.
The bathroom quickly filled with steam as Luke adjusted the shower to just the right temperature. He stripped off his clothes first, then turned to you, his gaze steady but gentle. You pulled at your hoodie with your good hand, and he stepped in, carefully sliding it off—first your good arm, then easing it over the sling. Next came your shirt, followed by your bra, sweatpants, and panties. His fingers brushed your skin with quiet confidence, his touch gentle and reassuring.
“I’ve got you,” he said, guiding you into the shower. The water hit your back, and you sighed, tension easing slightly. He grabbed the showerhead, letting the stream glide over you, avoiding your bad shoulder.
“Too much?” His voice was low, careful.
“No. Feels good.”
He squeezed body wash into his hands, lathering it up, and started at your neck, fingers gentle but sure. He pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “I keep seeing that puck hit you,” he murmured against your hair. “Should’ve been faster.”
“You can’t stop everything,” you said, tilting your head to meet his eyes. “But you’re here now and that’s enough.”
He kissed your temple agin, soft and tender, before his hands moved down your back, the warmth of the water mixing with the steadiness of his touch. His fingers glided over your skin as he worked the soap down your spine. "Turn for me," he whispered, his voice low and soothing, his hands resting lightly on your hips, guiding you with quiet strength.
You turned slowly, your back now facing him, and as you did, you felt his lips brush against the back of your neck, the kiss lingering just a moment longer than usual. His hands were gentle, but there was an undeniable tenderness in the way he moved, as though he was cherishing every inch of you.
“You’re so strong,” he murmured, rinsing you off, his hand gently shielding your eyes as he worked shampoo through your hair. “But let me take care of you, alright? Don’t try to be tough for me. If you need anything, just ask. Okay, princess?”
You relaxed against him, giving him a small nod and a soft smile, the pain fading as his warmth surrounded you.
When he was done, he wrapped you in a towel, pressing a quick kiss to your head. “All clean,” he said, his voice filled with love and gentleness.
He grabbed one of his Devils shirts, the one he’d left in your wardrobe ages ago—loose enough to accommodate the sling—and a pair of your pajama shorts, dressing you with the same careful attention. Once he finished, he wrapped a towel around his waist. Luke hated sleeping with anything on, so he didn't bother with boxers—he preferred to sleep completely bare. And you definitely didn’t mind one bit.
Once you were settled, he walked over to the sink, a playful grin spreading across his face as he held up a toothbrush. “Open,” he said, his voice teasing but soft.
You rolled your eyes but complied, letting him brush your teeth—clumsy but full of enthusiasm. “Sorry,” he chuckled when he accidentally bumped your lip, his hand instinctively steadying you at your hip.
Then came the skincare routine—toner, serum, moisturizer—and Luke looked utterly baffled. He picked up the toner and held it out, squinting at the bottle. “Wait, so you actually need all of this?” he asked, genuinely confused. “But you’re already, like, ridiculously pretty. Why all the extra steps?”
You chuckled, shaking your head. “It’s not just about looking pretty, Luke. It’s about healthy skin and preventing wrinkles.”
He raised an eyebrow, a teasing smirk playing at his lips. “Well, you'd still look hot with wrinkles, you know.”
You giggled, kicking your legs as you sat on top of the washing machine, where he’d placed you after brushing your teeth. “I don’t know about that,” you teased, enjoying the playful energy between you two.
Luke just shrugged with a grin, clearly unconvinced. But he didn't argue. Instead, he got to work with the precision of someone who had no idea what he was doing but was determined to get it right. He carefully applied each product—toner, serum, moisturizer—treating it like a delicate task, though still clearly puzzled by the whole process.
“Good?” he asked, stepping back with a gentle smile, his eyes searching for yours.
“Perfect,” you murmured, feeling the warmth of his care in every word.
He kissed your forehead softly, taking a deep breath as his fingers grazed your healthy arm. “Bedtime?”
You nodded, already feeling the pull of exhaustion. “Yeah,” you whispered.
He tucked the blanket around you, his movements slow and deliberate as he slid in next to you, propping himself on one elbow, watching you settle against the pillow. His hand brushed a loose strand of hair from your face, his gaze tender.
“Lukey,” you murmured, half-asleep, “Thank you.”
He smiled softly, his fingers brushing your cheek slowly. “Anything for you. Even if Jack’s never going to let me live this down.”
You smiled, your face relaxing into the comfort of his touch, curling closer to him. “Worth it,” you whispered, feeling the weight of his love wrap around you.
He kissed your knuckles lightly, his voice barely above a whisper. “Yeah, you are.”

Luke would be the type to keep his private life very private so him having a gf only really his family and friends in michigan know so the devils have no clue and i could see the boys always trying to get luke to hookup with people for like a whole season till next season when they finally learn luke has had a gf the whole time
Oh boy, 100%. He always just politely tells them he's not interested in dating anyone or having a casual hookup or pretends he doesn't notice what they're doing. Jack 100% does not help, he finds it hilarious when any of the guys are trying to get Luke to talk to some random girl in a bar, but he will 100% confirm to you that Luke is the most loyal boyfriend you could ask for. I also see Luke feeling guilty about it even though he hasn't done anything, so every time he gets back to the apartment he's telling you if you live together or phoning you if you don't and basically confessing his 'sins', like 'i'm so sorry, baby, Marky tried to get me to go out with this blonde and she wouldn't stop touching my arm and I told her I wasn't interested and I only love you.' Definitely reaches a point where he breaks and just goes 'STOP! I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND' and all the guys are just like 'why the hell didn't you tell us this sooner?' Totally happy to take requests/ideas/prompts at the moment in my ask box :) Writing Masterlist
"Hey, C'mon, Rusty! What about the blonde at the end of the bar?" Curtis points to a young woman around Luke's age, platinum blonde hair, little black dress, who's eyeing Luke like he might be candy. It doesn't flatter him, if anything it sends a sick feeling to his gut, a roiling discomfort because only you're allowed to look at him like that. You can eye fuck him, no one else. He feels objectified.
"Curtis, I've told you I'm not interested. Not my type." Not his type because his girlfriend is his only type and there's only one of you. It doesn't matter if 100 attractive women all tried to get his number right now, he wouldn't care, wouldn't give it out because you're the one he wants. Literally no one compares to you, he's smitten, whipped, absolutely in love.
"C'mon, seriously! You didn't go out with anyone all last season! Not even a hook up, you're celibate, man! You're young, you should be having fun!" Curtis knocks his shoulder with a grin and Luke just grips his beer tighter, feeling a familiar frustration at the situation. He spent all of last season dealing with the boys trying to goad him into hook ups and flings, throwing women at him like it was their duty to get him laid. He hated every minute of it.
"Yeah, Lukey, you were practically celibate, a monk," Jack chimes in, arm thrown over Luke's shoulder with a grin, the irony of his words not lost on either of them because Luke was definitely not celibate last year. He just wasn't hooking up with random strangers, because he'd started dating you, because you were the only person he wanted to see, to kiss, to sleep with and that still stood firm and true.
"Just go talk to her, maybe you'll get lucky and go home with her tonight! C'mon, what's wrong?" It's Dougie that chimes in this time and Luke wants to die. He wants to die. Or alternative go to your apartment and curl up with you in bed because this is the worst.
"Yeah, are you scared, Lukey?" If Jack wasn't his brother he'd have killed him already, killed him for encouraging all of this bullshit for a year, knowing full well that Luke wasn't single. But, he can't because his mom would be upset if Jack died...he rolls his eyes at him instead, shrugging his arm off of his shoulders.
"You're not secretly a virgin or anything, right, Rusty?"
"Fuck off, Lazar." He snaps, not because it would matter if he was, but because it's stupid that that's the only reason people can comprehend he wouldn't want to sleep around. Maybe it's just not his thing to have hook ups? Maybe he's focusing on his career? Maybe he's already in love and anything else would be cheap and insignificant in comparison?
"Oh, that's hit a nerve, some truth in that?" The guys are all grinning at him like they think they've got it all worked out and it just...it makes him snap, slamming the bottle of beer he'd been cradling to the bar top.
"No, y'know why I don't want to go talk to some random fucking blonde in the bar or hook up with whatever girl you throw my way? Because I've got a fucking girlfriend, okay? I'm not virgin! I'm not celibate! I just don't want to fuck a girl that isn't my girlfriend!" Luke's breathing heavy by the end of it, red it the face because it is so fucking annoying to constantly be bugged about it and he just wants everyone to get off his back. He's happily with you, he doesn't need random hook ups and he certainly doesn't need his team mates trying to get him laid like they have some moral duty to do so.
The way they look at him makes him feel stupid because suddenly they're all calling out variations of, "Dude! Why the fuck didn't you tell us this sooner?!" and he realises that maybe he could have solved this all months earlier by just saying he was seeing someone...like a normal person, maybe? But he'd wanted to keep things private...
He flounders for an explanation, mouth opening and closing, running a hand through his mess curls like that might help his brain to function.
"I just...it was new and...we were keeping it private."
It's Marky that turns to look at Jack, "Did you not know about this?"
"Oh, I knew." Jack is all smug enjoyment, leaning back against the bar and winking at the blonde Curtis had been trying to set Luke up with. Satisfaction rolled off him in cocky waves.
"Why they hell did you let us shove girls at your brother then?" Curtis asks, shocked, nay baffled because Jack had just spent an entire season practically encouraging the behaviour all while knowing full well Luke was dating you.
"It was funny," He shrugs with a grin and mentally Luke is considering whether the price he'd pay is worth putting itching powder in Jack's underwear drawer or maybe if cutting his hair in his sleep would be a better punishment since he can't rip another set of braces off him like Quinn did.
"That's messed up, Jack!" "Yeah, man!"
Luke sighs as the guys all ripped into Jack, downing the last of his beer and grabbing his phone off the bar top.
"Fuck this, I'm going to see Y/N."
"Ohh, you're girlfriend!?" And just like that Luke knows...he knows he's not out of the woods, it's just that the woods have changed from teasing and taunting him about hook ups, to doing so about his girlfriend.
Fuck, he hates being a younger brother.

Dallas' head snaps back, and he stumbles with the force of an unexpected hand on his shoulder. For the briefest moment, he goes entirely limp, lets his fist hang in the air and doesn't try to scramble back to the boy on the steady retreat in front of him.
Darry's got him. And if he'd thought it through for even a second longer that would have scared the shit out of him. But then the fingers are tearin' into his jacket and forcin' him backward and he finally whips his head around and realizes the reality: two very pissed cops have got him.
And he immediately starts fightin' again. He writhes in their grip and the kid he'd been whalin' on is suddenly skitterin' back with renewed fear. Dallas bares his teeth once and figures he's made his point.
The next ten minutes are a blur.
His heart is poundin' in his ears and he can feel his pulse as it rattles under the cuffs the cops slapped on him the second they could get his wrists within a foot of each other and his head is achin' and he realizes for the first time he tastes blood but he can't focus on anythin' because all he can think is Fuck, Darry is never gonna forgive me for this.
He says it all the time. When he rolls in an hour late and thinks Darry's gonna kick my ass. Or when he lets Pony have just a little too much of his beer and the kid's gigglin' fit to wake the dead when Dallas 'n him sneak back in. Or when he hauls off and picks stupid fuckin' fights for no reason.
But this time he means it.
He groans and drops his head to his hands in the little holdin' cell they have him waitin' in until they process him. Last night's argument flashes vaguely in stills through his mind. He wasn't comfortable with people... carin'. He just didn't know what to do with it.
You can't tell me what to do, Darrel. Dallas flew up from the kitchen table and paced wildly away from Darry. Pony watched him with wary eyes. Soda bit his lip and looked at Dallas like he was tryin' to tell him a hundred things Dally didn't know how to understand.
Yes, I can. I won't have you actin' a fool and gettin' yourself hurt. Darry frowned and he's got these lines in his forehead Two jokes he never had before Dallas moved in. Dallas can't stand to see them.
You're not my brother. And you're not my dad. I ain't never had no one tellin' me what to do in my whole life and I'm not about to let you start. He'd slammed the screen door and gone straight to Tim's, started a fight, wound up at Buck's 'n drank til he vomited, woke up this mornin', and started another.
Darry was goin' to throw him to the fuckin' curb and never talk to him again. And Dallas deserved it. He wasn't one of the Curtis boys. No matter how hard he wanted to be.
"Name?" A cop had reappeared in his cell and he kicked himself for missin' it.
"Curtis." Dallas opened his mouth. Shut it. Opened it again. "Fuck. No, sorry." Since when the fuck did he apologize to cops! "It's Winston. Dallas Winston."
The man just stared at him, Curtis already written across the top of the paper in big, bold letters. "Are you sober, kid?"
"Yes, I'm fuckin' sober! My name's not Curtis. How the fuck do you not know me?" To his horror, he feels hot tears in the back of his throat. He's just some no-good juvenile delinquent every bastard officer in this town knows by name except this one apparently because all he is is trouble. And Darry hated him.
"Sure, kid." The man shuffles his papers together. "Officer Matthews has already called your- big brother is it? He's on his way."
"He's not my brother!" And now he's actually cryin' which is bullshit! Who cares! Who cares that Darry is gonna look at him just like his father did. Like he was a burden he'd do anythin' to get rid of. Like the worst thing Dallas ever did was simply show up in his life one day. Dallas is used to this. He's not someone who stays. He was meant to be left. He's a violent dog. He only knows how to bite.
"Dallas?" Darry's voice makes him jump. He doesn't pull his hands away from where they're pressed so hard into his eyes that he sees stars. He can't bear to look up and see what he already knows he will—not hatred, but cold, cold indifference.
"Out." Darry isn't talkin' to him, Dallas can tell he's turned around by the way his voice bounces back to him off the cement walls. He flinches anyway. "Please." He adds like an afterthought and Dallas hears the door open and close.
"I'm goin' to touch you, ok?" Dallas doesn't say anythin', just makes a low noise in the back of his throat. He feels Darry gently tip his head back, eyes still squeezed shut. He feels him softly check the area on his jaw he knows will bruise tomorrow and run experimental fingers along his ribs for breaks. Dally hisses once and Darry immediately pulls back.
"Oh, Dallas." And suddenly Dallas is fuckin' cryin' again. Darry sounds so tired and worn down and old. Did Dallas do that? Did Dallas make him like that? And the sob that catches in his throat makes him choke.
But then he's pressed against Darry's chest and his hands are strong on Dalla's back and in his hair and Dallas doesn't even fight it. Just lets himself be held and doesn't even mind he feels as small as Ponyboy.
"Come on, Dallas Curtis. Let's go home."

Darry does not parent anyone in the gang except Ponyboy. No, not even Soda, and definitely not Johnny or Dally.
I’m going to be honest and say I genuinely don’t understand where the idea of Darry being the ‘dad’ of the group, or some kind of father figure to Dallas or johnny of all people comes from, because it’s so explicit in the novel and even the movie that he isn’t (I haven’t seen the musical but from what I understand there's some sort of rivalry between Dallas and Darry there, so there probably isn’t any paternal dynamic there either). To claim Darry is a father figure to ANYBODY- even Ponyboy- is completely antithetical to his character. Darry is twenty years old. He’s a big guy, who has respect from most greasers, and he is the LEADER of the gang, looks out for all of them the way a brother would, but he does not PARENT any of them.
Even after the Curtis parents’ deaths, when he gets guardianship of both Ponyboy and Soda, the only one he actually attempts to parent is Ponyboy- and he clearly struggles with it. It’s not just the main source of tension between him and Ponyboy, it’s the ONLY source of it. Canonically, Pony and Darry got along fine before the Curtis parents' deaths, were close even, because Darry is good at being an older brother. He always has been, because he is used to it and it doesn’t carry nearly the same level of responsibility as guardianship does. Darry never had to be a parent before, let alone to his brother, and he’s flying blind trying to figure it out. He doesn’t know what limits to impose that seem fair but not stifling, can provide materially but doesn’t know how to provide emotionally, because he’s a new parent who is struggling to raise a teenager instead of a newborn, and has no experience for what he’s doing. Darrel Curtis is DROWNING trying to figure out what being a parent means when he has only ever looked at Pony as a little brother instead of a dependent. He’s not happy. He’d never give his brothers up, but this new role is killing him, and it’s plain for anyone to see.
This brings me to my next point: Darry is so overwhelmed trying to parent Ponyboy, it never even crosses his mind to try parenting Soda too. This isn’t even my interpretation- it’s textual. Soda doesn’t get hollered at, Darry doesn’t really care where he goes or what he does, and he never punishes him the way he punishes Ponyboy. It doesn’t help that Soda and Darry are closer in age than he and Ponyboy are. Soda is almost seventeen, he has a job and is street smart in a way Pony isn’t. Darry doesn’t have to worry about him as much so he doesn’t, because Soda could survive on his own if he had to, whereas Pony couldn’t. It would also be harder for Darry to discipline Soda if he wanted to, given Soda’s age and his agency, but again, Darry doesn’t want to. Soda doesn’t need raising, because he’s already been pretty raised, and Darry couldn’t handle raising him. Darry can already barely handle raising Ponyboy, and Soda has a tenuous role in the house as he plays confidante to both of them. Soda and Darry’s dynamic is pretty solid because their dynamic is still that of brothers, there’s been no upheaval in their relationship, and so there’s no major friction either. Besides that, there’s the fact that Soda is helping raise Ponyboy, not being raised himself. It’s a joke I’ve seen a few times that Darry plays ‘dad’ and Soda plays ‘mom’ to Ponyboy after the Curtis parents’ deaths, but there's an element of truth to it. Soda handles Pony’s emotional needs, gives him advice, reminds him he’s loved, where Darry provides discipline and material needs. Now, we see clearly in the novel this creates an unhealthy dynamic in the house and in Pony’s relationship with both his brothers, making him ‘hate’ Darry and idolize Soda, but it remains true nonetheless. Darry doesn’t know how to parent, so he follows the traditional social ‘script’ of what fatherhood meant in the sixties, and the rest of the household molded to fit the new Darry into the mold he cast himself in. But despite Darry’s best efforts and Soda’s help, Darry proves over and over he’s not good at parenting, and definitely isn’t filling the role of Pony’s parent let alone his father- and it all culminates with The Slap.
Now, knowing this, having read the book and seen, even through Pony’s biased narration, that Darry’s attempts at parenting Pony are a bit of a dumpster fire, it’s plain to say Darry isn’t playing dad to anyone else in the gang. If he was he’d be harsher to them, strict with rules he’d expect them to follow (Darry does not like to be disobeyed and he definitely doesn’t like his authority challenged), and cognizant of their whereabouts at all times. He doesn’t do this with any of them though, because he ISN’T trying to parent any of them, and even if he was no one in the gang would let him. Steve is too self-sufficient, Johnny is too independent, and Dally is too Dally for it to ever happen- even if the small age gaps between the characters wouldn’t make the attempt almost comical. Darry is, only ever has been, and only ever will be, a brother to them. It means he can offer up the couch and share food and look out for them while they look out for him in return, without ever being responsible for them. Yes, Darry is superman, he’s the oldest of the gang, seen as dependable and protective. He’s the guy everyone goes to when they get in trouble, a symbol of safety, but not because he can fix things the way a parent would. Dally didn’t call Darry from the phonebooth as a scared kid looking for a parent’s comfort, he called him as a reckless kid looking for a brother’s help to hide his misdeeds. Johnny doesn’t crash on the Curtis’ couch as anything but a kid staying at his friends turned family’s house. He looks at Darry as someone protective, but not as a father figure. In fact, he probably sees better than anyone (except maybe Soda) that Darry isn’t a great guardian, having heard Ponyboy’s rants and seen firsthand how the dynamic in the house has shifted.
Darry Curtis is everyone’s brother, but no one’s father. He never will be. The only person he ever attempts to parent is Ponyboy, and he’s not good at it. That’s the whole point. Darrel Curtis is a dependable guy, a smart, cool, tough-as-nails gang leader, but he is also still a twenty year old kid, in over his head, who leans heavily on his friends despite his pride, and who is greatly unequipped for the level of responsibility that has fallen onto his shoulders. To portray him as a person who is able to parent a gang of delinquent teenage boys almost his own age is disingenuous and out of character.
Darry Curtis is no one’s dad. That’s the whole point.

could you do the greasers with a busty s/o?

Summary: The Outsiders x Busty!Reader
Warnings:none
Author's Note: none
PONYBOY CURTIS
Pony definitely does not care if his partner has been well endowed, he's more of a personality guy, as pretentious as that sounds
He's not going to treat you differently based on your cup size, he's still a good boyfriend all around
He's very caring and gentle, massaging your back whenever it pains you and stuff like that
He's also making sure that none of the gang catcall you/try and make a move on you.
JOHNNY CADE
Johnny is also like Pony in the sense that he doesn't care about body shape, as long as you're acceptable by Dallas, you're good.
Of course Johnny turns to Dallas about Every. Single. Thing, for advice, so he's always telling you some weird joke about your body and then immediately apologizes after
He's really trying to be nice and to be someone that you'd want but he just doesn't know how
SODAPOP CURTIS
Soda likes that you look like a model, he's always complimenting you constantly, telling your that you're gorgeous etc.
He's really laying it on thick because he realllly likes you, mostly your face and personality but he thinks the body is a plus
He really likes cuddling with you too, he finds it fun to lay on your chest and he says it's "like a pillow"
Like Pony, he'll also massage your back when it hurts, generally just wants you to be as comfortable as possible
STEVE RANDLE
Steve is almost as dirty minded as Dallas, especially when it comes to the girl he's currently dating (you)
He's obviously very obsessed with your body, complimenting you whenever he can and getting you form fitting clothes
Other than that he's really treating you no differently than he would any other girlfriends, with the utmost respect etc.
Steve really likes to show you off, make sure everyone knows you're gorgeous and your his
TWO-BIT MATHEWS
Two likes girls who are the epitome of feminine beauty, and you fit into that wonderfully, not just because of your body too
He likes when you wear babydoll dresses because it makes you look like an elegant princess
He's obviously getting you clothes that he thinks would look cute on you and even his mom got some for you
He also likes to sleep on your chest and he tells you that cuddling with you is one of the best things ever.
DARRY CURTIS
Darry also likes to give you back massages when your back hurts, it's a Curtis brother thing.
Generally, he doesn't care what you look like, as long as you're sweet and caring and you work well with Pony and Soda
He finds you very gorgeous but the only way you'd be able to tell is because there's always a little blush on his cheeks when he sees you
He works very hard to find clothes that both fit you and your style and to make you feel beautiful
DALLAS WINSTON
You and Dallas are such a crazy couple because the gang obviously thought Dally would try and go out with you but no one thought you'd say yes
It's a very rough beginning of the relationship, he's hyperfixated on your body and how having you compliments his reputation
People may call you crazy for sticking with him but if they saw how your relationship was now they might still call you crazy, but less so
He's less of a jerk about complimenting and flaunting you, instead he's whistling at you from across the street, yelling "hey babydoll, wanna come back to mine" and stuff like that, of course it's something you agreed upon.
ALSO!! he fight anyone who tries to make a move on you and catcalls you!!

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐝! 𝐬/𝐨
𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 - i've had a few requests similar to this so here ya go !! as a performer i love this icl
DARREL CURTIS -
Darry is incredibly supportive with your interests
If you need help rehearsing your lines, he will sit down with you once his brothers have gone to bed and read through them
I love the idea that Darry can dance (totally not bc of dirty dancing) so if you need to go through a choreography, he’s the person to help you
He loves it when you sing sm
If he hears you, he just smiles fondly and shakes his head but he’ll never bring it up to you
He’ll try to go every single one of your shows/productions
If he can’t make it because of work, he’ll make someone else go and will always be there to pick you up afterwards
SODAPOP CURTIS -
Soda would adore the fact that you’re an actor/actress
He thinks it’s so cool and he will brag about it to anyone who listens
He’ll try his hardest to help you memorise your lines, but he doesn’t have the patience to sit there and wait for you to go through an entire script
He loves it when you sing
Whether its in the kitchen, in the shower, in the car, you name it, he loves it
Y’all will do duets together in his car
Dancing together in the kitchen
Soda will go to all of your shows and will get front row tickets every time
Plus he cheers the loudest for you !!
PONYBOY CURTIS -
I think Pony would be super interested if you’re an actor/actress
We all know how much he loves his movies and books, and I cant see him being any different when it comes to plays
He’ll help you will your lines, and he’ll help you interpret different scenes (he just sees things differently)
When it comes to dancing however… maybe he isn’t the best person to go to
He’ll sit and watch you practise for ages and will give feedback when needed
He loves that you can sing so much and will always give you little compliments about your voice
He always tells you that he’ll be watching you at the drive-in, on the screen, one day
He might try and get involved in some of the high school productions, but only if you’re part of them
If not, he’ll always be watching you from the crowd and he’ll be super proud of you !!
JOHNNY CADE -
Johnny is so incredibly supportive of you omg
He loves everything you do and thinks it’s so cool
When it comes to helping you learn your lines, he is super patience and will prompt you when needed
He could sit for hours and just read your script without complaint
He adores watching you dance
Unlike Soda, he won’t join in – he’s more than happy to stay at a reasonable distant and cheer you on from afar
When it comes to your singing, he could just listen to you for ages and he encourages you to sing around him all the time
He finds it comforting in a way
He will come to your rehearsals if you want him to and he always feels so at ease watching you (anything to stop him going home ig)
At yours shows, he will always be somewhere in crowd, and will tend to drag Pony along with him
He’ll be watching you the entire time
DALLAS WINSTON -
Dallas doesn’t see the appeal in theatre
He’s never really cared for shows and performances until he learnt about your interests
Just because you like, doesn’t mean he’s going to change his views, but he might not be quite so harsh about it
He won’t help you with your lines – if he does, you’re probably better off practising alone anyway bc he’ll purposefully try to mess you up
“It’s all part of the acting process, babe. Trust me.” (dont trust him)
He does however like to watch you dance
His eyes will be fixed on your the whole time and he thinks your so hot
He is the type to get jealous if you have an on-stage love interest
Dally is not afraid to brag about you – everyone knows that Dallas Winston’s partner is a performer. Its common knowledge
He will tease you for your singing, but he secretly thinks its crazy good
He’d never say that to you though
Now when your shows and performances roll around, he probably wouldn’t go to every single one
He might linger in the back for a bit, but he’ll probably end up leaving during the interval and waiting outside for you
He does support you though; he just doens’t see the appeal of “prancing around a stage”
STEVE RANDLE -
Steve is your number 1 fan and I mean it
He’s crazy about the idea of you being a performer and will always be there to big you up and support you
He’ll try his best to help you with your lines. He might not be the greatest at it, but at least he tries
He shows you off to everyone and will chew people’s ear off about you
“That’s cool, but did you know my partner is an actor/actress”
He never shuts up
He will always try and dance with you, but this guy has to left feet
Your choreography ends up turning into a mess of twirls and loud laughter
Uses you as he personal jukebox
He loves it when you sing so much and will make song requests
Sometimes he joins in, but he never sounds very good bless him :(
Goes to every single one of your performances and shows
Always tries his best to get front row seats so he can cheer you on
You will always see him grinning at you in the crowd like this boys is smiling so big when he sees you on stage
TWO-BIT MATHEWS -
If you thought Steve was you biggest fan… You were wrong
Two thinks you’re the best and he will say that
You’re better than every other actor, singer, dancer he’s ever heard of by a mile
If you two are watching a show or movie together, he’ll lean over and whisper: “sure, they’re great… but compared to you, they’re nothin’, babe.”
He’s actually suprisingly good when it comes to helping with your lines – he’s got that theatrical energy about him
LOVES your dancing and never hesitates to join in
Teach him the choreography please and he will practise with you
Probably got kicked out of your rehearsals for shouting praise at you LMAO
Always compliments your singing like he loves it
Sometimes he’ll put the radio on just to hear you sing
Two-bit always cheers the loudest at your shows like you know those really obnoxious people who clap loud and whistle? Yeah. Thats him.
At the end, he’ll run over to you and spin you around, gushing about how great you were
He loves everything about you I swear

Perfect. Layering a leather jacket over your rather risqué outfit was the finishing touch needed for the night. You were going for a rather bold look, one to impress tonight’s company which awaited you on the west side of town. It wasn’t often you attended house parties, let alone with the richer folk who could afford them. Sneaking out wasn’t too difficult - as long as you didn’t stumble out of the window or cause an uproar, you’d be just fine.
Turning off the lamp on your bedside table was a must, your brothers had been fooled into believing you had laid down hours ago. They would freak if they knew your plans of making your great escape. The glass window creaked as it was maneuvered overhead, creating a wide enough gap for your body to fit through. Thank goodness you could only afford to live in a one-story house…
The soles of your shoes hit the dampened ground floor, a few leaves crackling under your weight. You heaved the thick glass back down, leaving a small crack for an easy entry when the party was over. A smile of victory tugged at the corners of your lips.
_________________________________________________
Soc territory. There was nothing quite like it, the clean sidewalks, silent ambiance, the beautifully decorated yards… it was heaven on earth - you were sure of it. This specific house was much closer to the city. Word had gotten around about the buzzing party being hosted tonight. Missing out on this wasn’t an option.
Your pace quickened as you strutted your way up the driveway. It was a long, grey-stoned path that was surrounded by grass so precisely cut it looked fake. The front door was wide open. Chatter and faint music were audible even at a faraway distance. Sauntering towards the foyer, you took a moment to gawk at a house so luxurious. The air was filled with soft giggles and shuffling of feet. Most were on the hunt for a date, and some were already getting it down a dim hallway, secluded from the rest of the party. There was a surprisingly good mix between socs and greasers, although you were familiar with most since this was a well-discussed event at school.
And there he was, your date. He stood off by the spiral staircase and leaned coolly against the wooden railing. His tall, broad-shouldered, yet relaxed figure was unmistakable. It was a relief knowing he’d kept to himself this entire time, not daring to interact with other girls while waiting for you to arrive. You walked towards him confidently, a pep in your step. The boy grinned cunningly as he locked eyes with you. “Thought you bailed on me for a minute, I been here ten minutes already,” he spoke lowly, extending an arm for a hug.
You graciously accepted, letting your body collide with his for a brief moment. “Sorry, I was tryin’ to keep quiet when I left. But man, have you seen this place?”
He could hardly focus much on your words, he was fixated on your lips. The way they moved delicately, the shiny glow of them, the tinted color that complimented your eyes so perfectly. To say he was infatuated with you was an understatement. “Mhmph, an’ you look incredible. I like your… your little outfit,” he complimented with a teasing smirk. He pointed up and down at your body, sizing you up lustfully.
‘Outfit.’ You knew it would draw his attention. The boy’s eyes lingered on your body. “I think I fit the dress code, look at-“ you began, maneuvering your body to show him examples of girls scattered around.
It wasn’t until you saw Dallas Winston standing by the bathroom door, just a little way down the hall. He had a watchful eye, scanning the room for some company. He had a red solo cup in one hand, the other stuffed away in his pocket. His right foot was kicked up against the wall, making a quite noticeable impression on most. It baffled you more than anything that he somehow got an invite to this party…a party full of socs.
His gaze shifted towards you, it was like he could somehow feel a pair of eyes glancing his way. He furrowed his brows, squinting as you made painfully awkward eye contact. He spotted you.
Quickly turning back around, you smiled sheepishly at your date. “You get my point…how ‘bout a snack?” You crept your hands to rest on his shoulders, leaning your chest forward.
The boy nodded, trying to comprehend why you all of a sudden seemed so panicked. He seemed unsure about reciprocating touch, it felt too risky. Your clammy hands, fast tone, and rushed conversation gave it all away. Something was up. “Yeah, sure… lead the way…?”
Your hands left his body like nothing, moving your feet as fast as possible to get away from Dallas. You couldn’t be caught sneaking out, not at a party like this, not on the other side of town, not with this mystery boy you kept as your little secret. A familiar voice called out behind you, a bitter tone detected, “Hey!”
Attempting to ignore the voice, you kept on, your date just beside you. A hand firmly spun you around, grabbing your shoulder. “Hey, I’m talkin’ to you, what the hell are you doin’ here?”
Fuck.
“What? I’m trying to have a good time, what’s the problem?” you tried your hardest to keep casual, responding with a hint of forced nonchalance.
Meanwhile, your date looked like a mix of both confusion and hesitation. Was Dallas somebody important? Why wouldn’t you be here? Was there seriously an issue with you and this boy speaking to one another? He crept a hand to your hip, pulling you closer to him.
Dallas sensed his confusion, shaking his head profusely. “No, no, no - I know her brothers.” He narrowed his eyes, sizing you up. There was nothing innocent about this date, your outfit, or your intentions. “I can’t believe ol’ Darry let you out like that. I mean…” Dallas scoffed, his crooked grin on full display, “You do look good…”
“Alright, alright - backtrack for me, man,” your date huffed, subconsciously shielding you away with an extended hand. “What the hell is going on?”
Standing sheepishly between the two, Dallas stared directly at the boy across from him. He didn’t like to feel intimidated, much less from a stranger. He swallowed hard, feeling his frustration rise. “I’m lookin’ out for her, I know damn well she ain’t supposed to be here.”
You chewed the corners of your gums and tried to contain your nervous laughter. “Well- don’t put it that way, I just…” Both boys fell dead silent as you struggled to come up with the words to describe how you managed to end up at such a place. “I didn’t tell my brother where I was going, I just… left. He wouldn’t mind anyway, I just didn’t feel like mentioning it to the warden.”
Dallas let out a dry laugh, completely unamused with your excuse. “Save it, man, that’s bullshit and you know it.” He stalked forward, swiping your date’s hand out of his way with confidence. “I’ll take you home, I ain’t too drunk.”
Your date was embarrassed. You seemed comfortable enough with Dallas for him to relax and not turn into a possessive jerk. He placed the swatted hand on the back of his neck, rubbing it to soothe his anxiety. “You know what, yeah… go on home, baby. I’ll call you sometime. It’s for the better I guess. I hope.”
Dallas held your bicep firmly, his eyes half-lidded with annoyance when your company spoke up. He was awfully sassy tonight, to say the least. He tugged you along with him, making a beeline for the exit.
It was silent between the two of you, even as you entered the passenger seat of his borrowed Thunderbird. You were buckled into the passenger seat, leaning the side of your head against the glass. As Dallas fumbled with the keys, he started the engine. He let out a deep sigh, not yet driving off. It seemed he had something to say, the fidgeting of his fingers along the wheel giving it away. He didn’t dare look you in the eye, he kept his gaze forward. “You know, you spoiled my game tonight…”
Bullshit, Dallas wouldn’t ever have a chance with those chicks! you thought to yourself. You shrugged, not uttering a word in reply.
“I could’ve left with one of those girls on my arm, and maybe had another one’s number in my pocket. You owe me,” he spoke lowly. He didn’t seem too angered… it was suspicious of him. Usually, those he cared for received that tough love he kept locked away.
Dallas drove past the line of parked cars outside of the house. He stayed quiet too, matching the energy you handed him. He slammed his hand against the wheel, pressing his foot to the brake pedal. It was late, the streets were empty enough for reckless driving. “I won’t snitch, I don’t think that’ll do you any good. You wise up and stay your ass at home from now on, I’m not doing this for you again. I’m being nice.”
“I won’t, thank you,” you mumbled. The delivery of your words didn’t seem too sincere or thankful. Your mind was too busy trying to deal with the fact that you had spent all this time and preparation for nothing. He dragged you out of the place before the ‘party’ really began!
Dallas took note of your tone. He continued to drive, reducing the force applied to the pedal. “I never thought I’d run into you over on this side of town,” he teased, his anger slowly melting away now that his point was made. “Darry ‘nd Soda would have a field day if I told them. Maybe I could tell them how you’re dressed-,” he laughed aloud.
“Dally, come on. You just said you wouldn’t snitch!” you protested, breaking your record of keeping quiet.
Dallas smiled smugly. “I’m not, but I got you to talk to me.”
You rolled your eyes, scoffing even as a smile crept upon your cheeks. “Okay, okay- I shouldn’t have snuck out, and I was being stupid hanging out with that guy. I’m sorry.”
He momentarily took his eyes off of the road, shooting you a sarcastic glare. “Do I look like your brother or something? I don’t want an apology, I want you to make better choices. I’ve been to parties you wouldn’t survive in, I know better. You don’t.”
It was better to take his advice than to argue and have him rat you out after all. With a reluctant head nod, you caved in, “You’re right. I’ll ’wise up’.”
Now that the tension was clear, the drive back to the Curtis household was smooth. Maybe Dallas did change your mind after all, the right boy wouldn’t be there for you only when the process involved partying and sneaking out. There was uncertainty that came along with the lifestyle you experimented with. Some people couldn’t be trusted. You were rather lucky to have Dallas there, even if he soiled your fun for the night.
THANK YOU FOR READING, MY LOVES!! 💋

and they called it puppy love .. ✶⋆.˚

playfighting with johnny | johnny cade x curtis ! reader ⊹ ࣪ ˖

it wasn’t out of the ordinary for your eldest brothers to leave you and your younger brother at home by yourselves— darry and soda worked jobs, so they left at the crack of dawn and came home right before dinner. you and pony were used to this by now and the two of you found your own ways to kill the time alone. you typically spent your nights catching up on some homework or baking whatever came to mind. pony, on the other hand, would read and write; though, occasionally, he’d invite his best friend, johnny cade.
the first time johnny came over, he had bruises and cuts scattered all over his olive skin. he was quite frail, as if there were a skeleton walking through your doorway. you could see the terror in his puppy-like eyes, fear coursing through his veins as he trembled beneath an oversized jean jacket. you offered him a batch of freshly baked cookies, to which he devoured within a matter of seconds while he sat in front of the crackling fire, the only thing able to provide him some sort of warmth.
today was the rare occurrence that the two of you were alone. pony, johnny, and dally originally planned to swing by the dingo and grab milkshakes, but johnny took this as an opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with you.
the sky is painted with shades of amber peeking through the clouds as the crisp breeze sings to you a soft melody, allowing entry into a state of serenity. you wave at your reflection shimmering in the lake, completely unaware of the mud below you staining your white shoes. the sound of rustling grass follows behind johnny’s footsteps as he approaches you with a pebble clasped between his fingers. he then tosses the pebble into the lake, coincidentally on landing where your reflection is and splashing a few droplets of water onto your face.
you whip your head back, wiping a droplet off your cheek with the back of your hand. “hey, you splashed me!”
“you’ve still got a little over there.” johnny lets out a light chuckle, stepping closer towards you and wiping the remaining water with his thumb. his touch was so soft, just a light graze along the cheek, yet it was enough to flush your cheeks into a tomato-red hue. you instinctively turn your head to the side in an attempt to hide the fact that you’ve got the words ‘i like johnny’ all over your face.
he frowns, gently lifting your chin to the opposite direction. “c’mon, why’re you hiding your face?”
you playfully slap his wrist away, turning your head back into its original position.
johnny raises a brow, biting back a chuckle. “are you trying to fight me right now?”
you begin to take a few steps back. “yeah, and i bet 20 cents that i’ll w-“
before you can say the word ‘win’, you stumble on a rock, falling backwards onto the grass. johnny laughs, kneeling in front of you and reeling his fist back at the pace of a snail moving. you grab onto both of his fists, struggling to hold them up with your giggles.
the two of you are covered in mud and dirt, but that’s really the least of your concerns right now— in fact, you haven’t a care in the world. you’re too focused on the way johnny is practically towering over you right now, and the way his smile looks so authentic whenever he’s around you.
a few minutes into your back and forth playfighting, you catch the faint sound of grass rustling in your direction. with every second, the volume of the rustling increases; whoever’s there is getting closer and closer.
you and johnny pause, looking over to the side. to your surprise, dallas was right in front of you, point at johnny and scoffing. he didn’t come alone, either; your brothers were right beside him, their mouths agape.
“see, i told ya so! they’ve been hangin’ out this whole time!”
you stand up, releasing your hold on johnny’s fist. the embarrassment practically seared through your cheeks, the red hue from being with johnny alone darkening into a deep scarlet. peering over your shoulder, you realize that johnny is just as embarrassed as you are. you can only imagine how long darry’s lecture will be once you get home..
‘and they called it puppy loooooveeee, oh i guess they’ll never know how a young heart, how it really feels, and why i love her so’ .ᐟ ₊˚⊹♡

seven minutes of hell or dallas winston and his soc! rival are stuck playing seven minutes of heaven together
warnings: bad writing! (girlies i’ve never kissed anyone or flirted so my expression only comes from writing fanfiction so it may not be the most realistic i’m afraid), fem! reader, very self indulgent, i’m also aware that realistically socs and greasers probably wouldn’t be round the curtis brothers house together but like if you wanted realism you wouldn’t be be reading dallas winston fanfiction would you considering he’s canonically dead lol 😭, weak ending, 903 words <3

you’re going to strangle Cherry Valance after this. when she invited you and your other friends out for the evening not once did she think to mention that you were going to that side of town…
not that you have anything wrong with the Curtis brothers, they’re all lovely and very nice-looking. nor do you have a problem with any of their other friends who despite what you might think are all very sweet apart from the insufferable Dallas Winston. and you suppose it makes sense because if she had said that he was going then you would have spent another night reading shitty romance books alone in your bedroom. but still, there is no one you can’t stand more than Dallas Winston. he’s snarky and callous and violent - and beautiful.
yes, you’re not blind even you can recognize that he’s exactly your type but he pushed your buttons like nothing else with the way he patronizingly calls you “princess” and takes every opportunity to drive you absolutely up the wall. you two bicker like night and day whenever you cross paths so you honestly don’t know what Cherry was thinking. and despite that, you assumed it couldn’t get any worse. what could be worse than a party with the boy who makes you red in the face and with a desperate urge to wrap your arms around his neck and - let's not go there?
well, you were wrong anyway it can get worse and it did. because as Daryl’s taking Ponyboy to bed some wise guy (two-bit) suggests that the rest of you play seven minutes of heaven. it is quite possibly the most juvenile thing you’ve ever done and you and every intention of sitting out till surprise, surprise Dallas makes a snarky comment.
“what too good to kiss a greaser is that it princess?”
you flush angrily clearly the fact that you’re at this stupid get-together should prove that you don’t harbour any of that foolish class nonsense. you roll your eyes as you take a seat. fine, you’ll play one stupid round of this silly game you think as you spin the bottle hoping to get it over and done with. with any luck, you’ll get Johnny or something who won’t want to do anything but talk.
but no that would just be so easy so instead the Coca-Cola bottle reaches its final spot right in front of the worst person it could ever be. even he has the decency to look embarrassed with the tips of his ears tinging themselves red and taking a long swig of his beer.
“I can spin again” you shrug awkwardly not wanting to make him uncomfortable.
“you can’t cheat the bottle girly” he tells you as he sets his drink down and stands up expecting you to follow after him. you can feel everyone’s gaze on your neck as you silently walk into the small cupboard with him. you hear the click of the lock and you're plunged into total darkness. your back presses up against the wall and his tall frame awkwardly clashes against yours. you can hear him muttering various expletives under his breath. god, you’re not that bad surely. the silence is loud and awkward. you swallow heavily before speaking.
“Why do you hate me?” you ask softly before you think it through. cheeks flushing so you’re grateful for the dark.
he scoffs “You think I hate you…” he says it as if it’s the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard.
you feel insecure as you speak again, voice small and weak as you try to explain why. “well like you call me stupid things and you make fun of me and-“
he interrupts you before you continue “I call you princess 'cause you remind me of one. I wind you up because it means you look at me and you get this cute little flush on your cheeks. I don’t hate you and man I hate all that sappy stuff but I do seriously like you doll”
“wow” is all you can manage, taking in what he’s saying.
”you know this is the point where you say that you like me too sweetheart” he teases you but you’re sure theres a small twinge of insecurity in his voice and you haven’t heard a more wonderful thing in your life. he likes you.
you kiss him of course. you pull him down by the collar of his leather jacket and press your lips against his and it’s perfect. his hands wrap around your waist and he tastes like the beer and it’s perfect. you want to stay like that forever. you can hear the beach boys playing on the record play in the other room and idly you wonder why it sounds like it’s getting louder and why the room seems to have gotten brighter.
”seven minutes is up lovebirds” you hear Soda’s teasing voice ring out.
immediately you jump out of Dallas's grip like you’ve been burnt.
all your friends are gathered by the doors and are watching as Two-bit hands a dollar over to Cherry who is saying “told you they wouldn’t be able to keep their hands off each other”
before you can say anything else Dallas snaps at them that the games are over and he shuts the door plunging you into two obscurity again as he pulls you in.
“eager are we?” you say laughing against his lips.
“very” he says faux seriously before kissing you again.
you decide that you’re eager too.

hope you like it! xoxo, flo <3

the gang dating a stoner hcs
warnings: mentions weed and alcohol
a/n: as someone who's a lowkey stoner, i wrote this with the reader being someone who doesn't look like they'd be a stoner.
johnny cade
definitely doesn’t mind that you smoke
he’s maybe tried it once but never enough that he felt anything
one day he tries it with you
he immediately understands why you do it
johnny has a lot of issues and has a lot of baggage, smoking weed helps him calm down
you’re happy that it makes him happy
but that can also be dangerous
you worry about him getting hooked to the feeling, so you make sure he only ever does it with you
thankfully its illegal and since johnny is kind of skittish, he doesn’t go after it on his own
smoking with him is a mix of calm and paranoia
hes paranoid while you’re smoking
worrying about the smell, who’s around, your eyes, etc
but once its done, he’s calm
you spend many late nights just dozing off in each others arms after smoking
also many deep talks
overall, he’s grateful for you (and it) and he accepts your habits
dallas winston
he LOVES that you’re lowkey a stoner
there’s something about how you look when your eyes are all droopy and red that turns him onnnnn
(he also finds you being able to roll hot, idk why)
he definitely does it here and there
but he loves to smoke with you
on a rare night, you two will get crossed at bucks and will probably end up fucking
high sex is his favvvvv
he’ll take you to the drive-in after you smoke
those are probably the only times you’ll pay attention to a movie around him
he’s very rebellious so he doesn’t worry about you getting caught very often
he’ll even steal snacks for you
he lets you crash in his bed if you’re super slumped
you love cuddling with him if you’re high
something about the warmth and skin to skin just feels so much better
he definitely finds it funny when you’re high
he’ll laugh about you demolishing your food
he definitely laughs when you start sharing your high thoughts with him
and he finds it especially funny when you find something funny and can’t stop laughing
you’ve definitely been caught in some dumb ass situations where you look at each other and have to find a way to hold in the laughter
ponyboy curtis
definitely has never smoked
he knows its illegal, so he was definitely surprised to find out you do it
at first, you kept it separate from him
you know his brother would kill him if he tried
you didn’t smoke around him and were never really high around him
until one time you were headed home after a smoke session with your friends and you ran into him
he invited you to the drive- in with the gang
steve and dally could definitely tell
ponyboy could tell something was off but couldn’t pinpoint it
he bought you a popcorn and you couldn’t shut up about how much better it tasted
“has this popcorn always been this good?”
“it doesn’t taste any different than the last time we had it”
“are you sure?”
“are you okay”
dally definitely broke the news to him and it hit him quick
after that, pony started asking you questions about weed
“what does it feel like to be high?”
“does food actually taste better?”
“does it taste like a cigarette?”
you asked him if he wanted to try it one day so you waited until a day where his house was completely empty and smoked
after one hit, he was coughing like crazy
no amount of cigarettes could’ve prepared him for that
he couldn’t smoke very much because of the coughing but he got high and finally understood the food thing
tore apart any food available
he really loves to watch the sunset when he’s high
he thinks the colours and scenery are so much more detailed and pretty
he’s the type to turn into a poet when he’s high
but in the end the coughing was not worth it so he only does it very rarely (and only with you)
its a very special occasion when pony smokes, so you always make sure its a good experience and you do everything so darry will never find out
sodapop curtis
he’s definitely tried it before
he was not a fan
(he wasn’t inhaling it right so he never felt it and thought it was pointless)
he was very surprised when he found out you smoked
he always makes sure you’re careful with it
he takes extra care of you when you’re high
he makes sure you don’t have to talk to anyone
will take you to go get whatever you’re craving
he’s also a fan of the high eyes
he thinks its cute when you laugh at dumb things you wouldn’t usually find that funny
he’s very observant so he can definitely tell when you’re high and even if you’ve smoked at all
you taught him how to inhale
unfortunately he’s a bit of a paranoid high person so you don’t smoke with him
he always feels his senses heightened
this boy will hear a cop car coming from five blocks away and then panic as if you’re not sitting inside his house
however he is the type to EAT when he’s high
he’s like a bottomless pit
but hes also sodapop curtis so he’ll stay skinny anyway
darry curtis
darry definitely tried weed in high school
i mean he was on the football team
but he’s not a fan
too much risk not enough reward
so when it comes to dating a stoner
he’d probably rather not
but if he is
you just have to keep it separate
you don’t smoke around him and you’re never really high around him
he doesn’t mind the habit as long as you don’t let it affect your ambition
darry is a workaholic, he looks for a partner with drive
so as long as you smoking weed isn’t interfering with your job its fine
he would never date someone who is always high
he’s okay with it if its more of a couple days a week type thing
once you’ve been dating a while, he makes it clear that you can smoke and be high around him
because he’d rather you do it around him then alone or out on the streets
he thinks its cute when you’re high
he likes how you’re giggly
he’ll cook for you
and he likes how affectionate you get
he smoked with you ONCE
he, like sodapop, is the type to eat like there’s no tomorrow
after it was done, the entire gang unexpectedly showed up at his house
they could tell
darry’s eyes were practically bloodshot red
ponyboy took advantage of calm darry and got to stay out late
“get him high more often y/n”
they tried to keep their laughs to themselves but it didn’t work
two-bit especially could not contain himself around darry and couldn’t look at him without laughing
you definitely fucked after and the high sex was almost enough to get him to smoke again
but he could never EVER let the gang see him like that again
he only got high with you again after you learnt how to make edibles
two-bit matthews
two-bit loves that you smoked
funniest couple ever
you love smoking with and around him because he makes you laugh so hard
funny sober = super funny high
you two will laugh until you’re clutching your stomachs in pain
he’ll finish a whole chocolate cake high
two-bit is not a sit down and relax type of high person
there’s two potential reasons
a) he’s just like that
b) he’s always a little drunk so he just ends up slightly crossed
he’s super social and bounces off the walls
so sometimes you have to let him just go out with his friends
once he comes down from it all he’s super tired
you guys WILL take naps together
you’ll sleep from 11am-4pm
or you’ll go to bed at 2am and wake up at 1pm
it all depends but the two of you are heavy ass sleepers after smoking
the house could’ve blown up and neither of you would notice
steve randle
he has also tried smoking before, but never too much
he had basically forgotten it existed until you
he doesn’t like it when you smoke alone so if you’re not with friends, sometimes he’ll smoke with you
it actually helps him focus a lot
if he can work on a car high, he will
it becomes the only thing that matters
gets you dx discounts on snacks
he’s pretty quiet high so the two of you will often spend your time watching a move with his arm around your shoulder
he’s lowkey strict with it because he doesn’t want you to get caught
so he doesn’t let you smoke in very public places or in broad daylight unless you’re somewhere safe
doesn’t let you meet your dealer alone
he’s protective of you when you’re high because he thinks it makes you a bit more vulnerable
he’ll do all the talking
he doesn’t like people who spend their entire day high
he’s okay with it as long as you’re not a bum because of it

“Curly, this is really dumb.” The little nine year old stood looking up at his older friend, who was attempting to climb up a telephone pole. The friend in question looked down with a confident smile.
“I’ve got this, Ponyboy. I’m halfway there already!” Curly hoisted himself up higher on the pole. This whole ordeal would’ve already been stupid, had it not rained the night before. In the early morning, the pole was slicker than it should be.
“Curly, I really think you should get down.” Always the over thinker, Pony was terrified his friend would bust his head and die if he fell. But at the same time, he was Curly Shepard, the tuff ten-year old who was already getting into fights and winning. He could get hurt.
Pony was about to be proven wrong. “C’mon, Ponybaby, don’t worry-“ Curly’s had slipped, and he couldn’t catch himself before he fell down and landed hard on the soggy grass. The dull thud made Pony slightly queasy. He just stared for a moment, completely terrified.
“Curly, are you dead?” He asked quietly, his voice squeaky.
Curly sat up, his face pale. His eyes were wide with pain, and he looked like he was trying not to cry. That’s bad, Pony thought. Shepards never cried. Was the world ending?
“I-I’m not dead,” he said quietly. Pony was even more terrified by how he was holding himself. Curly was always overconfident, risky, and excited. Now he just looked defeated. “I just - hurt my arm. It’s not a big deal, I’m - I’ve had worse.” He had not had worse. His voice sounded sad, like he was trying to convince himself of what he was saying.
Pony took a glance at his arm and instantly regretted it. Were arms supposed to bend that way? He didn’t think so. Maybe they could, he was only nine and he hadn’t seen much. But if they were supposed to bend that way, Curly wouldn’t be crying.
“Um…I’m gonna go get Darry.” That’s the only thing Pony could think of doing right now. His parents were at work, and Soda was running around with Keith and Steve. Plus, Darry plays football. He knows what to do with injuries.
Pony ran as fast as he could to the Curtis home. Luckily he’s always been a good runner, able to outrun Soda by a mile. He banged through the front door, finding a, annoyed Darry doing homework at the kitchen table.
“What, Pony?” But the sick look on his little brother’s face made his annoyance shift to concern. “What happened?”
“Curly’s arm is facing the wrong way.” Pony ranted out the whole story, barely stopping to breathe.
Darry groaned, heading for his jacket. “You kids are gonna be the death of me…Tim needs to get his brother under control.” He rubbed a hand down his face, then pointed to Pony. “You call Tim, I’ll go get the troublemaker.”
A week later, Curly walked around school, telling some tale of how he’d gotten his arm broken by three senior Socs but he managed to fight them off one-handed. Pony rolled his eyes. He would’ve been telling everyone the whole story, had Curly not let him draw something small on his cast as payment. The real story only existed between Pony, Curly, Darry, and an extremely drunk Tim. And Curly got to carry around a drawing of a horse for six weeks.

Does Bryon have a role in the Dallas mark and Tex (and Mason) au? The end of TWTTIN always made me so sad knowing that mark didn’t see Bryon as a brother anymore
Bryon could have a role actually, valid point. Idk, I liked Bryon. Not like. A lot. But I liked him alright, and related to him in a few ways that make me slightly uncomfortable tbh, and I feel so bad for him-
I think for this AU, we’ll say Mark still talks to Ponyboy, and separately, Bryon talks to Ponyboy too. Not on purpose, initially, because he’s not the world’s biggest Ponyboy fan- but after Mark runs away to Dally’s place, Bryon’s hit with all the feelings he had in the end of TWTTIN. Only this time, Mark’s not in jail. In fact, Bryon’s pretty sure that that Curtis kid knows where Mark’s hiding- after all, he’s in the same gang as that washed-up hood Dallas Winston who’s always up to something. So Bryon seeks Ponyboy out for info. But then it just turns into like. Talking about his feelings about…everything. He’s kept it bottled up for so long that the second Pony prods him, Bryon just sorta spills.

(Design notes- Bryon’s hair’s grown out cos he’s depressed and not really taking care of himself all that well. Sixteen-year-old Pony’s hair, on the other hand, is long cos all the refs I could find of very slightly older C. Thomas Howell had 80s mullets. And yk what that’s kinda funny so I went with it- let’s just say it’s because after Johnny’s horrible haircut in Windrixville Ponyboy can’t risk letting it get cut so short ever again)
(More au rambling below the cut lol)
So now, essentially Ponyboy’s stuck between his buddy Mark, who complains about Bryon constantly, and Bryon, who is Pony’s girlfriend’s ex, and Pony’s friend’s…ex-brother? And both Bryon and Mark kinda talk to each other through Ponyboy, who’s like an unwilling messenger now. Or like the child of divorced parents, trying his damndest to keep the two from hating each other too much. (Mainly just Mark- Bryon just feels guilty)
If I were to make this au a multi chapter fic, I’d give Mark a running gag of coming up with Dr. Doofenshmirtz-style revenge plans against Bryon and trying to rope Ponyboy, Tex, Mason, and occasionally even Cathy and Angela Shepard into them.
I think Dally would be a Bryon hater cos Dally’s one big moral code is loyalty- honor among thieves, yk- and Bryon betrayed Mark. But Pony and Johnny would sympathize with the guy. Also low key I think Johnny would be a Mark hater

I Explain the Context for the songs in The Outsiders Musical
Spoilers for the Musical under cut! I was lucky enough to see the show in person so now that the album is out I decided to provide context for the songs so people listening to the album can know where in the story each one takes place/what is happening on stage during. Also some fun tidbits sprinkled in because this show is really so amazing I can not praise it enough.
Tulsa '67:
The self-explained exposition song. We get the intro being the first line of the book and then we get the song as out introductions to the characters. One thing that is interesting is that there's a projector screen on stage and for this song Pony sits in front of the screen and speaks to the audience while the other characters are behind the screen. Acting out little scenes to show their personality while Ponyboy narrates and at the end of the song the screen lifts up to show a clear view of the stage. It's also right before Ponyboy gets jumped.
Grease Got a Hold:
Right after Ponyboy gets jumped. Like the song says in this version of the story a greaser isn't just something you are born into it's something you "earn" by being beaten down on by the socs. It shows the differences in each character most notably Darry and Dally because Darry hates the idea of Pony being stuck as a greaser, presumably because he wants more for his little brother, while Dally sees being a Greaser as something to be proud of. Presumably the first time Ponyboy gets to grease his hair (this song was also performed on the Today show and I highly recommend looking up the performance it's so good, it should be available on the today show website along with the other songs performed that day)
Runs in the Family:
Darry gets a song! After the previous song we cut to Darry in the Curtis home reflecting on where he was going in life versus where he ended up. In the musical the fact that Darry would be a soc without the gang is played up a lot more. The emphasize Darry's friendship with Paul and their history seems to go a lot deeper than just football buddies. Paul mentions gifting Darry a madras shirt and Darry being over at his house. The rest of the gang piles in at the end of the song.
Great Expectations:
The titular 'I want' song in any musical. The night after getting jumped Ponyboy tells Soda about reading great expectations and after Soda bids him goodnight he starts singing. When he mentions Darry and Johnny the actors come on stage. And at the end of the song the chorus of overlapping voices is the whole gang on the outskirts of the stage looking down/at Pony while Ponyboy sings out to the audience. (This song was also performed on the Today show)
Friday at the Drive-In:
The Soc introduction song. I think an important thing to note is that while the greasers dancing is far more rough and tumble. Jumping around and over each other, spinning and getting out nervous energy. The socs are far more reserved in their movements. They are still dancing around with spins and flips but this scene features a lot of partner dancing that's more self contained than the greasers who jump all around the stage.
I Could Talk To You All Night:
After Johnny tells Dally off/Dally leaves. Ponyboy and Cherry go to the concessions stand together. While in line Ponyboy tells her about Johnny getting jumped to which Cherry tries to defend Bob as Ponyboy already knows it was her boyfriend who beat Johnny up. Her defending him is half hearted though when Pony insists Johnny didn't do anything, he mentions reading Great Expectations to her and she tells him how Pip gets a happy ending before they start this song. It carries the story forward up until the end of the movie/the scene where they try to walk the girls home only for Bob and the socs to stop him. Also, in the musical Cherry does not go with Bob and instead breaks up with him right then and there because she's tired of all the fighting.
Runs in the Family(Reprise):
Ponyboy and Johnny make it to the Curtis house and instead of falling asleep at the lot it's stated that Ponyboy just spent so long talking to Cherry that that was why he was late for curfew. He acts nonchalant about it and Darry bursts into the reprise. There's also a scene here where Darry goes to advance on Johnny only for Soda to step between him(I think this was meant to be a moment where Darry is just lashing out because he's under a lot of stress as a guardian and Johnny is there but it hurts my heart a little to think Johnny was scared in that moment as he backs up and ducks away before Soda steps in front of him) And after the slap Ponyboy freezes until Johnny runs over and tells him they gotta get out of there.
Far Away From Tulsa:
After getting hit is when the two wind up at the park. Their conversation in the book about a life outside of Tulsa is now taking place after Darry has hit Ponyboy which makes his desire to find a place without worries all the more real. Johnny and Pony have this beautiful moment on stage together where they look out to the audience together and imagine a life where they can do and be whoever they want. Which makes it hurt all the more that right after they sing all their desires for a better life is when Bob and the rest of the socs show up.
Run Run Brother:
The two make it to Buck's after the stabbing of Bob where they ask for Dally. It's worth mentioning that Dally straight up mentions his willingness to die for Pony and Johnny, and that he thinks of the two of them as brothers, though I can not remember if this happens here or after 'Grease Got A Hold'. After the first bit of the song the scene shifts from Buck's to Pony and Johnny running to the train/hiding from the workers as they make their way to Windrixville. There's also a line in the beginning when Pony says 'when I came to there was Johnny with his knife' this is important and I'll explain in 'Little Brother.' I also really like the detail of before, during 'Grease Got a Hold', 'you're a greaser now and you ain't going back' was said as a proud statement and now when the chorus sings it it sounds sad and almost like a death sentence.
Justice for Tulsa:
We cut back to Tulsa after the boys escape. The cops line up the socs on the stage as they call for justice now that one of their own has been murdered. When Cherry speaks she is doing it at the vigil the soc's are holding for Bob before Randy approaches her. He's organizing a hunting party against the greasers. It's worth mentioning that when Cherry speaks against him Marcia tries to go to her side only for the other soc girl in the show(Bev) to hold her back. Cherry leaves alone and once she's gone Marcia pick up a flashlight, which serves as the symbol for the socs hunting down the greasers with no mercy during this scene. Where in the book Dally mentions Two-Bit getting jumped during this song we see it happen. The socs jump him and Bev holds a lit cigarette to his cheek while the guys hold him down(in the live version of this song we hear Two-Bit's scream) It's worth mentioning that Randy does not get a redemption in this version, in fact, outside of Cherry the socs are pretty much painted at the bad guys with her as the one exception. Even though we get Randy's emotions with 'this can't be real, he can't be gone' rather than feeling sadness over his friend's death for too long Randy switches to anger. Cherry's role as such has been adapted to be a mix of her and Randy from the book in terms of story beats.
Death's At My Door:
The boy's are in the church, as far as I can recall this was after they cut their hair and I believe it was meant to be implied that a day or two has passed since Bob's death. Though if this is before or after Pony read the poem I no longer remember. The two boys are relying on each other in this scene as they reflect on how nothing is gonna be the same again what with their ability to go home taken away unless they want Johnny to be thrown in jail. Something I forgot to mention before is that Pony blames himself for his parents death. In the musical he say that on Darry's birthday he was supposed to pick up a special frosting for his brother's cake from a bakery his mother liked. But because he forgot his parents had to go out of their way to go and get it and thus were hit by the train because they had to go over the tracks. He tells Cherry before 'I Could Talk To You For Hours' that if he had just remembered his parents would still be alive. Which is why in this song he claims death follows him because he believes his parent's would still be alive if he had remembered to pick up the frosting, and that Bob would still be alive if he hadn't run out of the house/if Johnny didn't need to protect him.
Throwing in the Towel:
We cut back to Darry and Soda after the boys have been missing for a few days. Darry finally breaks down to Soda all the pressure he's under and how he feels like his brother's would be better off without him. He admits how much he thinks this is all his fault for being too hard on Pony and causing him to storm off after hitting him. During this scene while Soda and Darry are singing Ponyboy can be seen at the back on the stage watching them, and during the last chorus of the song 'this it the darkest hour of the darkest night' his voice joins his brothers. (This song was also performed on the Today Show and you should go watch it)
Soda's Letter:
Back in the church now right after Dally gets there after greeting Pony and Johnny he hands over the letter for Pony to read. Ponyboy reads it at the front of the stage while Soda's actor sing behind him/looking at him. Pretty much unchanged in terms of what Soda's letter gives to the story/when it given/read. The final "Ponyboy this house ain't a home without you" is sung by Darry who makes his way onto stage when Soda mentions him in the letter and we see him behind Ponyboy all but begging his brother to come home in this song.
Hoods Turned Heroes:
This is the fire song. We see Pony, Dally and Johnny in the church, I saw Pony light the cigarette and toss it behind him. I saw the flames go up and a terrified Ponyboy going "it's my fault" and then we cut to Two-Bit, grabbing the paper and beginning this song. We see a somewhat split stage in terms of spacing, the greasers back in Tulsa on one side, passing the newspaper between them as they read it, and we see Pony and Johnny in the middle saving the kids from the church. The scene is actually so creatively done and I adore it, outside of the fire they have two actors hold up a blanket and use shadows to show Pony and Johnny pulling kids from the fire since there are no child actors in this production. Interlaced with the puppetry of the saving kids we see Johnny and Pony sliding out from under the blanket and jump around beams that are held up by other actors while the paper is being read. All ending with Dally going in after Johnny. The scene changes to Dally holding Johnny, who's been changed into a hospital gown, and Dally gently lays him on the hospital bed when the song ends.
Hopeless War:
Before the rumble Pony does not leave the hospital. He stays there watching Johnny until Cherry comes in. She looks at Johnny, asking after his health, before turning to Pony and begging him not to fight. But if you recall earlier, as far as the musical is concerned the fire was set by Ponyboy's cigarette(sidenote: I think it'd be cool if every night they rotated who lights the cigarette and throws it and just switch Pony's line from "it's my fault" to "it's our fault" but I only saw the show once so I assume it's the same every time for who lights the fire even though it the book and movie we don't know for sure) So Pony can't listen to Cherry, even though in this scene she's taking the place of Pony's discussion with Randy in the book about the fight not making areal difference, because he sees this as his only chance to try and do something for Johnny since he can't do much else but watch over him in the hospital.
Trouble:
We cut to directly after Pony's discussion with Cherry. The greasers have their war cry of trouble brewing as everyone prepares for the rumble. While Ponyboy gets ready Darry comes up and begs him not to fight. If you recall during "Grease Got a Hold" Darry says how Pony "better know what you're fighting for" But he still doesn't want his brother to have to fight. But by this point Pony had his reason for fighting and he's the one to rally the gang with the call of "Do it for Johnny!" right before the socs roll up. Dally does say “do it for Johnny” at the beginning of the song but it’s Ponyboy who uses it as a war cry. Dally also has a moment where he calls out Darry for being on the greasers side when he was so against being a greaser before, but Darry looks at him and says confidently "once a greaser always a greaser". Paul has a moment with Darry where he calls him out for wanting to be a soc but Darry shuts him right down and the rumble is on.
Little Brother:
Right after the rumble the entire gang heads over to see Johnny, yes, the entire gang. Not just Pony and Dally everyone gathers around him and tells him about beating the socs. They watch as Johnny tells Pony to stay gold and they all break down when he passes, Dally runs out before anyone can stop him. He makes it to the top of the stage, and he begins his song. breaking down the boards around him in a show of anger and violence while the ensemble sings below him looking up. He says tearfully "I could not save you" remember during 'Run run brother' where I said the knife would be brought up later? It's because Dally was the one to give him the switchblade. Before the socs get their number Dally comes across Johnny staying in the lot while his parents are fighting. He tells Dally how he's been uncertain since he was jumped to be out alone. So Dally reaches into his jacket, pulls out the blade, and gives it to him(that one promo pic) and Dally tells him that "if you're gonna use it, use it" and I believe he says something along the lines of "because if you do there's no going back" Dally gave Johnny that knife to try and protect him, but all it did was sign his death warrant. It protected him from Bob but not from anything else, not from the fire. And when Dally said he would die for Pony and Johnny he meant it. He sings and is joined by the cast who echo him "little brother" but he stands alone at the top of the stage. He makes his way down to the bottom portion of the stage, stepping onto the train tracks(in my mind it's the same spot where the Curtis' parents crashed) planting his feet and squaring his shoulders before the song ends, and the train comes. According to Ponyboy his body derailed the train, and Pony likes to believe that despite that, some part of Dallas Winston managed to make it's way back to New York. (Playbill released Joshua Boone singing this song and it's so heartbreaking because there is no ensemble in that version so you have to sit with the harsh melody when Dally makes his choice to face the train head on)
Stay Gold:
After Dally's death we head back to the Curtis house. We don't get a time frame but going off the book it's been a week or two since they've both died. Cherry comes by with Johnny's things from the hospital, she mentions she volunteers there now, and gives Pony Johnny's letter for him. Pony refuses to read it but after Soda has his break down about "we're all we got left" he grabs Johnny's letter and starts to read it for Pony. Getting a line or two in before Pony asks for it, starts to read it himself, and the song begins. Johnny Cade joins us back on stage as he sings to Pony his hope for the world he has to leave behind. And of course, that request to stay gold.
Finale (Tulsa '67):
After reading Johnny's letter Ponyboy begins to write his theme. He finishes a page or two before joining his brothers at the table, he tells them what he writing about and Soda tells him to read it. Pony says it's only a few pages but Darry speaks up, "Can I read it?" he asks. And Pony hands it over, it isn't Ponyboy reading that intro again, but Darry, determined to do better by his brother and reading his work. He and Soda pass the theme to each other, taking turns reading sections aloud while Pony sings. Sings about Tulsa and the gang, of Dally who saw being a greaser as a badge of honor, of Johnny who wanted more for himself and more for Ponyboy who vows that "in his memory I'll stay gold!" The entire cast comes onto the stage as they sing, no longer to each other but to the audience, "stay gold!" It is something that has stuck with me and will stick with me to know that those final lines were no longer characters talking to each other, but talking to the audience right as the show comes to an end.
Anyways this got way longer then I thought but if you want me to ramble more about the show literally just ask I can not stop thinking about it. Might make another post about the differences between the musical and the book.

the piano in the background of the curtis house set in the outsiders movie will haunt me forever. how the hell did they afford a whole piano? was it inherited? was it left by the previous owners? have they lived in the house their whole lives? that’s a whole other can of worms, but the piano. did their dad play piano? their mom? did any of the boys? their mom who would sit little toddler darry on her lap and play lullabies for him before bedtime because she wasn’t much of a singer, but soda was, he loved it, she’d play her few songs she knew by heart and he’d belt out the lyrics from the minute he was old enough to memorize them. pony who finds piano music so calming because his mama would play for him when he was scared or nervous or upset. darry who has like, this ear for music, who was never really into it but he could listen to a song and then play it perfectly on the piano after one listen because he’s just freakishly talented like that but he’ll never sing the lyrics because he just isn’t the type or he doesn’t remember them, he just knows how to play the song, and he’s like his mom in that regard, and then there’s soda who never had the patience to learn how to play but will pretend he does and then ponyboy who tries to learn and then stops altogether when his mom dies. and then their parents are dead and none of them touch the piano, except they do, Darry does when his brothers are out of the house and he misses his mom, Soda will walk by and brush his hand over the keys and only press down a single one without even thinking about it… sometime after their deaths, Darry finding Ponyboy sitting at the piano with his hands floating over the keys and will ask what he’s doing and he’ll say he wants to learn, to really learn because their mom said she’d teach him but they never got around to it. so Darry will try to teach him. But Darry was naturally talented so he can’t teach him anything and it’s a talent in their family that gets lost to time. And maybe music doesn’t stay as important to them. but Soda will sometimes for not reason at all play their parents’ old records and sing along, and Darry can play anything on a piano (just don’t ask him how it works) and Ponyboy’s favorite songs over the years seem to always be songs that heavily feature piano, and I don’t know, just them and that stupid piano in their house you know

How would you think the whole dynamic within the gang would be if ponyboy instead of dally dying
Ok I've been sitting on this one for a few days because I'm drowning in exam season and I wanted to answer it properly.
So, I'm gonna disclaimer this and say that my previous posts hold true. In canon verse if Pony had died, Johnny would have died too and Dally can't survive without Johnny, but this is a fun thought experiment so lets dive in!
Ok so there's a few scenarios I could see that result in Pony dying but not Dally, but I'm just gonna write the one I think is most likely because this is gonna be LONG. This version is the one where Pony is the one whose back gets broken in the church fire and he succumbs to his injuries, the way Johnny does in canon. In this universe there is no bittersweet Curtis brother reunion in the hospital. Instead, you have Johnny alone in the waiting room, pale faced and shaking, who only left Ponyboy's side when the doctors threatened to kick him out of the hospital (i've said it before and I'll say it again- Johnny is PROTECTIVE AF over Pony). In this universe you have Darry and Soda stumbling into the hospital looking shellshocked, and Soda is sobbing already, and Darry looks so lost and so scared and so guilty. In this universe you have a Darry and a Soda who don't leave the hospital, refuse to leave Pony's side, a Darry that begs Ponyboy for forgiveness when Pony is conscious and who is granted it even though it never feels like enough, a Darry that tells Pony over and over that he loves him, and who watches the doctors with young, terrified, hopeless eyes, that are grieving what he already knows and refuses to accept. You have a Soda who promises Ponyboy over and over that he'll be okay, that refuses to speak to the doctors or even Ponyboy when it becomes clear that Pony won't survive this, who leaves in a fit of tears when he can no longer ignore it and returns just in time for Ponyboy to croak out a final I love you as he takes his last breath. After that its chaos. The rumble still happens, but since the Curtis' didn't leave the hospital until now it happens after Pony dies. Soda is too inconsolable to fight, and Darry refuses to, grieving and cold and unable to, unable to do anything anymore, unable to even hope. Johnny doesn't fight either, and Dally calls him a pussy for it, tells him to do it for Pony and Johnny refuses, knowing it's not something Pony would have wanted. They get into a fight none of the rest of the gang ever expected to see, and Dally goes to the rumble along with Steve and Two-bit, he goes to the rumble but he doesn't fight fair, he pulls a blade and gets arrested, because he couldn't handle Pony's death any better than he could handle Johnny's he just handles it differently. Since he's already up on murder charges he takes the fall for killing Bob, protecting Johnny one last time in a final effort to preserve Pony's legacy or maybe just try and keep Johnny gold, despite their argument. Dallas Winston's story ends there, as effectively as it did in canon, and he spends the next twenty years behind bars. The fallout from Pony's death throws Johnny Cade into an even deeper depression, and (because he can't die in this au) after Pony's funeral, in which he delivers a eulogy that is a modified version of his letter in canon, he runs away from Tulsa, for good this time, leaving behind the only family he ever had, splintered, cracked and then broken beyond repair. He never comes back and no one ever hears from him again.
Darry and Sodapop return home, wracked with grief, and grief. Soda blames Darry for Pony's death, and Darry can't even argue. He blames himself too. They plan the funeral, bury Pony beside their parents just a few days after he took his last breath. At the funeral they're approached by a social worker. The death of a kid under his care has Darry Curtis under investigation for child abuse and gross child neglect. Whether he's convicted or not doesn't matter- in any case Sodapop Curtis is removed from his care effective immediately, as Darry is declared an unfit guardian. It doesn't matter that Soda wants to stay, he doesn't have a choice. Sodapop Curtis spends just over a year in foster care, not allowed to have any contact with his brother, apart from what he hears from Steve and Two-bit at school- which isn't much. He tries not to think about Johnny Cade who left without saying goodbye, or the little brother that did and never should have had to, and eventually takes a leaf out of Two-bit's book and starts drinking until the thoughts become hazy and the world gets quiet. He's had enough of noise to last a lifetime. Steve Randle stays by his side and tries everything he knows to bring back the version of Sodapop Curtis that Ponyboy knew, the one he loved. It takes about six months before he accepts that version of Sodapop is dead too, had died with Pony, and this husk of a man is the only real Soda that is left.
Two-bit Mathews left the hospital the night Ponyboy died with a bottle in his hand and hatred in his heart. He fought alongside Dally in the rumble, beat some kid soc barely bigger than Ponyboy until his knuckles were bruised and the socs face was more blood than skin. He watched Dally Winston give up, watched the fight in him burn bright until the cuffs were around his wrists and it was gone. Two-bit raised a can to the end of the hoodlum, toasted to the end of another east side kid who never had a chance, and hadn't stopped drinking since, stuck celebrating the bruised up tragedy they'd all never escape day after day. Some days, when he thinks maybe he could try it again, the thing called living that felt a lot like dying, he checks in on Darry Curtis and remembers there isn't any sort of point to that kind of trying.
Darry Curtis is a broken man. He's found not guilty on all charges, and Soda's eighteenth comes not two weeks later. The remaining two Curtis brothers reunite, the youngest one not the one who's supposed to be. They get up. They go to work. Darry Curtis works hard and watches the world around him and sees nothing. His eyes are shadows, his hands are regret, and his being is grief. Most folks don't talk to Darry much these days. Darry doesn't talk much either. He thinks sometimes, about his friends, about where Johnny might be, how Dallas might be doing, but usually he thinks of Ponyboy, of the brother he killed through his pride and his fear and his own stupid anger, and he wishes he couldn't think anything at all.
Darry comes home to too much dinner made in too normal colours and a brother whose eyes are far too foggy. Soda is home, and things should be better but they aren't, they never are, never will be again. There are liquor bottles in the cupboard that never used to be there, and a space in the bedroom down the hall that never should have been empty, and the house isn't full of anything anymore except grief.
Ponyboy Curtis died and everyone else survived. But none of them lived.
