I am enjoying Love in the Air Koi enough and I suspect that I will enjoy the Sky and Prapai plot better because that got way too trauma porn for me in the Thai version and it feels like they won't be able to spend the time on it but boy do I get distracted because I just think that Boss and Noeul have an extraordinary chemistry and any other actors were gonna be at disadvantage to start out.
I keep thinking - when's their new drama coming out? haha
but still, I do like it just fine. I just don't find the actors as compelling.

astro obvs. & notes #1 - general
author’s note - this is for entertainment purposes only, none of this is fact. these are simply my own opinions!
- neptune 1H 🤝 pisces rising, noticing their eyes first. the water influence to these placements adds something that draws you in like a current, no pun intended. i used to work with a pisces rising, and she literally looked like a pretty fish (lmfao) big, shiny eyes. either of these placements can find it incredibly easy to appear sensual or seductive.
- speaking of water placements! i’ve also noticed pisces placements tend to take a lot of pictures around water. beaches, hot tubs, rivers.
- this can also be said for air signs (esp. libra) but with things they enjoy! i’m always seeing personal interest posts from libras, aquarians and geminis. music, video games, political causes, shows they’re watching, food, celebrities, etc. anything they like, they post. anything.
- i’ve never laughed harder than when i’m with people who have heavy gemini, capricorn, sagittarius and leo placements
- in my personal opinion and experience, capricorn risings are what people think scorpio rising is. i’ve only met one scorpio rising irl (that i know of) and she did not fit martian/plutonian ruling at all. celebrity examples ⬇️
kim hongjoong of ateez. the intimidation factor, the style, sex appeal, the interest in piercings/tattoos. he’s a capricorn rising, with his chart ruler, saturn, in the sign of aries so we see a lot of red/martian influence from him as well.
megan fox. she’s been a little fuckin weird ever since she dated mgk (that man makes me physically ill to look at much less read about) but! she had her bad bitch moments! being known primarily for her sex appeal + starring in jennifer’s body (a gothic treasure btw) i feel is very scorpio coded however she herself is a capricorn rising, with a sagittarius saturn in the 11h, more fire influence from her as well just like with hongjoong.
joan jett. THEE female guitarist of the 80s. her whole career was surrounded by sex, scandals, drugs, all the darker themes of rock n roll in general. she’s another fire ruled capricorn rising and a sagittarius saturn in the 11h like megan. her style and even her personality has an edge to it, much more fitting for scorpio/plutonian stereotypes rather the capricorn ones. imo.
- actors who’ve done major/recognizable roles in horror usually have a capricorn neptune. neptune is imagination and capricorn is ruled by the devil card in tarot. combine the two and you have quite literally = dark imagination. celebrity examples ⬇️
mia goth staring in the X series as the main face of the trilogy
bill skarsgard being the main face of the IT remake as pennywise
evan peters as tate langdon in AHS, he also played jeffery dahmer recently for netflix.
- capricorn actually shows up quite a bit in the horror genre, esp. gore and paranormal. both actors and writers.
- sagittarius too, oddly enough. a lot of well known faces of horror have major sagittarius placements/stelliums/jupiter dominance.
- underdeveloped cancer placements are more manipulative and two faced than geminis. i see so much gem slander on here, and don’t get me wrong, i love both cancer and gemini placements! however i’ve met and befriended quite a few of both, and cancers by far have been the common denominator in issues around them more than once. stirring the pot then turning around and playing the victim when people are frustrated, lying, playing both sides to better their own situation, and even playing people against each other. i’ve never seen such hateful behaviors from the geminis i know irl.
- aries men are much shyer compared to the women
- taurus women i’ve met irl get pregnant very easily. venus? good coochie? idk
- grand trines are some of the most beautiful people i’ve ever seen (a grand trine is when someone’s big 3, so sun/moon/rising, are in the same element but in all 3 different signs. ex: virgo sun, taurus moon, capricorn rising)
- queer individuals with pisces placements can pass as straight pretty easily if they wanted to. most of them are chameleons
- aries risings i’m so sorry for the household you had growing up. i see martian childhoods usually being the ones who dealt with screaming matches, toxic parents, poverty and underlying issues with siblings that last into adulthood
- i’m not surprised at all when libra placements tell me they’re in college for a general studies degree because they can’t figure out what they wanna do yet
- a lot of fan favorite female characters in video games are canonically cancers
- if you think your rising sign doesn’t suit you very well, try looking at whatever planet correlates with your gender identity. masculine: sun and mars, feminine: venus and moon. the houses and signs of these should help you out a little bit
- libra placements absolutely get favoritism at least once in their life, jobs/family dynamics especially
- sagittarius women usually have rough love lives, at least in the beginning. a lot of them try to save and help partners who don’t deserve it and they get hurt badly in the process. same goes with pisces women
- virgo venus is not that bad of a placement as stereotypes make it out to be. clean freaks? yes. perfectionists? usually, yes. loyal? yes. remember the small things? yes. romantic? no. at least not in a cheesy way. sensual? yes.
- lilith aspects to any of the big 3 is a bad bitch placement. honorable mention is venus/lilith aspects as well
- air signs like spicy food just as much as fire signs
- a lot of rappers have heavy mercurial placements (virgo and gemini) (3h and 6h)
- mc aspecting venus in anyway is usually the person who fools around with coworkers/may even cheat on a partner with someone they work with. most people with this placement have definitely had a partner at one point or another worried about someone they work with. may be the type to have a “work wife”/“work husband”
- 6h chiron is the person who’s life has been majorly impacted by their own or someone else’s health. disabilities, chronic illnesses, stds, limb amputation, skin grafts, etc.
- aries moon and mercury combo = bad potty mouth, cursing is an almost unbreakable habit
- speaking of aries! aries and aquarius placements together in any of these ➡️ moon, venus, mars, lilith, pluto ➡️ usually have a tendency to jump around from partner to partner very quickly, including falling back into exes. their thoughts and opinions on people and things change SO quickly that they usually are the kind of people who have rosters (unintentionally). they are upfront, they don’t lie or drag anyone along but they do seem to be restless when it comes to romance. even if they don’t physically date a lot, they may often THINK of it, their minds going a million miles a minute
- geminis do not get the rep they deserve for being freaks. not only does the sign traditionally rule the throat/lungs/hands/nervous system, (choking, breath play, hickies, hand fetish/fingering, blindfolding and sub/dom dynamics) but it’s also ruled by the lovers card in tarot 👁️👁️
- fixed signs 🤝 tattoos
- sagittarius/capricorn/pisces/libra placements usually have issues with religion/spirituality growing up. either they were forced into one as kids and they have an unhealthy relationship with their god now as an adult or they simply struggle to find something that feels true to them. this is just my experience but every single friend i’ve had who’s left the christian church, had an interest in paganism/buddhism, joined the satanic temple, grew up as strict catholics, etc, have had these placements. religion is a revolving door for them and it’s a common subject of struggle in their life
- women with pisces placements tend fall into unhealthy relationships very easily, especially if they’re heterosexual and dating men. they fall in love with the idea of love before the actual person presenting it. they are bossed around very easy and usually don’t like confrontation. honorable mentions for this as well: pisces stellium, cancer stellium/mercury/saturn, 7h saturn
- cheesy hallmark movies make me think of taurus/libra venus placements, 7h venus as well
- 5h cancer/moon/venus, cancer rising/moon dom, 5h/8h synastry aspects please be wary of accidental pregnancies! wrap it before you tap it cause y’all extra fertile 💀
- most well known streamers/youtubers have 10h stelliums, including their venus. a lot of them will end up dating another social media presence/someone who shares a platform/job with them

Wanted to paint some of my favorite characters, nothing more nothing less
Tumblr media
[COMMISSIONS]
Way too much yapping like an embarrassing amount, the individual portraits and the template I used below vvv
I shouldn't be allowed to talk about my favorite characters- especially to people who (presumably) don't know them xjfkdk apart from the very popular ones ofc
Tumblr media
ILLYA KURYAKIN (The man from U.N.C.L.E)
gay ass little Russian spy I love him he is so *dramatic* and a huge nerd and a Beatles fan and into fashion design- perfect pocket size blorbo ;w; also seeing a Russian character being given a positive leading role in an American tvshow from the 60s ?? Yes he lives in New York and works for UNCLE America.... But he is still a communist ?? Incredible ! Also I really like the fact he isn't given the cliché personality traits often given to Russian characters i e anger issues drinks a lot violent ect (looking at you shitty(imo) modern remake... What did you do to my little guy ;;). In a close contest with Spock for the "gayest man from tvshow" of the 60s..... And in my heart he is winning djdkd for me the gay subtext of muncle hits so much more because it's not a scifi show- it's closer to home, Napoleon and Illya were *like that* in the present day of the 60s, they were both human, and no alien fuckery made them go to the village more than once or play house in the suburbs or get attached ass up to get pegged on a regular basis... Truly a show that feels written by an old queen and a guy with the biggest fem dom fetish jkvjjkb (don't get me wrong tho I adore star trek tos and spirk too <3)
Tumblr media
KUROO HAZAMA and PINOKO (Black Jack)
sometimes I rewatch some of the oavs from the 90s when I'm sad :) I had a huge phase a couple years back when I read nearly all the manga (should really finish it... Or reread the whole thing frankly), watched *all* the shows (bar young black jack, hated that shit) and idk I just love this venal bitch so much- him and his daughter and his conflicted feelings for his tboy ex that he still loves kfkfkf btw I'm dying for a modern take on this like please please please I'd love to see Kei Kisaragi's story rewritten a bit (trans character in the 70s sure was progressive but oh boy-), because him and black jack's relationship makes me so *weak*.... And maybe see him a bit more than in one story- anyway ! When it comes to his daughter Pinoko, it's very hit or miss- when the writers lean on the cute father adoptive daughter relationship it's great, when they lean more on the whole "she has a crush on him" (very much like a child in most case, and he *never* reciprocate thank god) and bring up the fact she is technically 18 a lot (she was an evil tumor trapped in her sister before he created a body for her- black jack shit dw), and she gets jealous of other women.... Well it's terrible and I'm uncomfy :(
Tumblr media
EVA KANT (Diabolik)
Look.... You just can't show me danger diabolik 1968 and not expect me to become insane djdkdkdk she is so cool ;; !!! Her and her devious eel of a man (here as a panther, because even tho I haven't read the comic yet, I'm taking an educated guess that all the panther imagery is here to represent him, the lethal twunk always in the all black gimp suit... And if it's not then fuck my entire life ig fjfkkd), the cuntiest het couple you've ever seen, such freaks I love them ! Partners in crime that will blow up the tax offices of the whole country if you try to put a bounty on them <3 they are in the guilty faves category only because I'm this invested in these characters after 1 (one) movie fkfkf watched the first two remakes and was hmmm let's say underwhelmed, could have been worse but going after the 60s one ie peak cinema was hard... I went in fully invested in these heterosexuals and they still fucked up their romance and relationship ;; (don't spoil me the third one btw haven't seen it yet ! I know it's the yaoi one- which doesn't give me much hope for Eva tbh...) I'll soon start reading the comics tho ! Managed to find all twelve volumes of "Il grande Diabolik" in french for pretty cheap so I'm excited for that :D (might scan them and upload them online because omg I tried finding scans in *any* language and only found a dubious website that sold digital copies for 7€ a volume ??? What is this)
Tumblr media
UTA (The Void / Тургор / Turgor / Tension)
Apathy girlyyyyy she just like me for real for real nfkfk what absolutely charmed me about her is yes her design, but more importantly her chamber's design (if you've never played the void, a sister's chamber is a space that represent her. You get a sense of who she is by exploring her chamber before finding her and talking to her soul it's great). The lonely island out at sea, her laying down on a suspended steel boat in a grotto, looking passively at the moon by a crack on the ceiling.... And the moon is looking back. Incredible ! I love this game so much
Tumblr media
KIM KITSURAGI (Disco Elysium)
Do I really have to explain this one ? When I played the game with quiji I remember I kept saying "when Kim talks, we *listen*" djkdk we did get a good grade in Kim Kitsuragi and got him to dance in the church <3 this fucking centrist cop wormed it's way into my heart and many others because of course he did. The only Kim K in my eyes. Also funny anecdote : before I played Disco Elysium, I had one concept art masterclass where a kinda famous concept artist came to give advice, make us really stressed then give us a shitty grade.... And when I tell you this man looked so much like Kim ??? Same haircut, glasses, face with a scar *exactly* where Kim's portrait has a stark shadow on his cheek and he was dressed in an orange top- truly uncanny. Anyway, Kim is so fucking cool how does he do it
Tumblr media
DARK VADOR (La guerre des étoiles)
*sight* not surprising if you know me... and to be clear when I say Vader I don't mean Anakin Skywalker, post barbecue only zouz here. I refuse to yap about this man djdkdk I already do that way to much in ao3 comment sections
And here is the template I used ! Don't know who made it tho sorry...
Tumblr media
PS : all these where made in 2-3 hours each :D wanted to challenge myself by painting quickly, and I mostly (looking at the Eva Kant one that gave me trouble) succeeded !

i dont know if you've seen it, plan on seeing it or have watched/ read any reviews for it but... what do you think Vil and your Yuu's possible thoughts and reactions to the live action Snow White would be?
I will talk about here XD.
I saw a preview before the movie came out and knew it was going to be poorly received. Purely because it was a live action remake of Snow White. We had a live action remake with Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth when she was FRESH off of Twilight and people still didn't like it all that much. Snow white is not the movie to do a live action retelling with I'm afraid. (Cinderella has like 5 and they were all hits in some type of way. How is she DOING THIS?)
Yuu would show Vil the 2012 movies Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman first. Mirror Mirror had some really nice costuming and they both get ideas for productions the Film Club could work on because of it. Snow White and the Huntsman I had the small inside joke that they fastforward through the movie and only watch Charlize Theron's scenes.
Vil, watching the movie: IS THAT ME????
Yuu and Vil can also admit they kind of like the 2025 Evil Queen's outfit. It's so ridiculous that it loops back into iconic.
Both are...kind upset at the lacking of understanding on WHY Snow's happily ever after is to marry the Prince. Like he didn't know she was a princess but he still showed that he cared for her when he thought she was a maid. He kisses her as what was most likely a form of goodbye to the nice girl he only met once only to have her wake up from what everyone thought was DEATH. ANDZ SNOW WHITE GETS THE PRIZE OF MARRYING FOREIGN ROYALTY TO NEVER DEAL WITH BEING TERRIFIED AGAIN.
The prince is Snow's prize for her kindness and gentle heart, she can REST NOW. Yuu will bring up her own issues with the boss-girlifying the movie industry is doing with princesses who's entire stories have them show casing their kindness and patience and taking it purely as them being passive damsels. I will however keep my issues with the live action Cinderella Disney did. Like, girl, show SOME AGENCY? The animated version was yelling and throwing a fit when she got locked in the attic, stop dancing.
All in all, if Yuu shares the movies before the events of Tapis Rouge, Vil is suddenly VERY CONCERNED when he hears about a live action remake for the Fairest Queen movie.
If it's after, he just claims Yuu's world's version is clearly cursed. Tells Yuu to shut up when she points out its two very different stories.

One of the most important things with how I write Willow in fanfic and with the canon character, too:
Is that I look at the Buffyverse slightly differently than most. Yes, it's absolutely an allegory show about growing up and the monsters and supernatural forces at one level are literal metaphors, that's how Whedon wrote it. In fanfiction I don't care because I'm not plagiarizing Whedon's notes, I'm doing my own stories with my own themes.
And yet even in Whedon's own sandbox the setting is ultimately a superhero show in the vein of Blade, Werewolf by Night, or the Creature Commandos. The Slayers are empowered messianic superheroes standing against very literal demons and fighting them in the dead of night. And in this regard, Willow's an Outside Genre character, because her arc is very literally a classic superhero narrative.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
It is, ultimately, *these* narratives, the hero amassing enormous power, that going to her head, and very bad things following from it. The supporting character sidekick becomes immensely more powerful than the regular hero to a point that you literally cannot fight Dark Willow. Unlike Kid Miracleman or the Dark Phoenix she doesn't go for anywhere near the scale of atrocities....because she was stopped at the last minute.
Willow Rosenberg, in both Seasons 6 and 7, has the power to remake the world. First, for evil, and burning it to a cinder at the end of Season 6 (and I will always be confused why killing Warren is the bigger point against her and not the almost wrecking the world and having Xander talk her out of it in the literal last five seconds on the Doomsday Clock, hypothetical resurrected Tara would be much angrier about the almost destroying the world thing than killing Warren and would be right to be).
Then for good.
Tumblr media
Treating this as, essentially 'characters never understand what genre they're in' works as the broadest single element here. They're all in a superhero story, they get that to a point. What they don't get is that it's none of the Slayers who have the classical superhero narrative, it's *Willow*, whose entire experience loops into the most classical comic book narratives and where she very much does match comics Jean Grey, who starts off as a mid telepath and telekinetic, grows greatly in power, then killed off a planet by eating its star for fueling that power growth as the Dark Phoenix.
It shapes everything about her, both the irony that the most powerful being in the setting is shaped by crippling self-loathing that leads her to put all her worth and value into her relationships with the people around her, which makes her amazingly sweet, adorable, and loving at her best and becomes horrifying very fast if a gear slips even slightly. Willow with that identical power and even a marginal degree of emotional health would be a completely different character and essentially straight up 'Jean Grey if she was magic.'
It is the absence of any emotional center or self-worth (at least until she gets her shit together in the comics, which as I've written before is the Willow the Tara we see in the show deserved but due to having her emotions together would not be a Willow she'd actually want entirely and there'd be major issues about that) and colossal amounts of power that form the basic dichotomy that makes her work.
Too much of the discourse around her, ironically, hinges on the same things that lead into her faults, much as most Tara discourse relies on the same 'Tara is meant to fix everyone's booboos, uWu' thought that in a darker, uglier sense was the very mentality her biological family had for her that the character rightfully fled from even knowing she was going into a Hellmouth and what that meant for her.
And in the fanfics, accordingly, where I write her, I tend to use a narrative trick where the stories are Willow-centric but the main POV character is ultimately Tara with her actions seen through the eyes of others and only intermittent glimpses of her psyche (usually the kind, at that, that show that her friends have completely wrong views of why she does things to note that the results of these misunderstandings are....explosive...much like happens in the show, except writing lets you do things differently to visual media). Willow is extremely smart and extremely powerful, and even before that power grew she had friends to help her escape the more dangerous situations she tended to get into, while being reliable hostage bait was incentive all by itself to start developing that power.
It's also a stealth meta-commentary in that Tara, in the canon show, is deeply codependent on Willow at great expense of her own health and never really changes this or considers that she probably should even after the breakup. Tara's broader interest in the setting has Willow-colored glasses, while her greater grasp of mystical theory + less power means that there's both greater tension and ability to neatly do the 'as you know' factor in a perfectly justified way with a geeky nerd who'd collect trivia on magic.
This is also an emphasis that places how dangerous Willow can be as a front and center factor, while her friends going 'aww, she looks just like that girl from the movie with the line about the flute, she's adorable' right up until the 'holy shit this is scary' moment happens is right in line with what we see in the show. Alyson Hannigan as an actress is typecast, but it's a type that has layers and lets her show her skills, because the type is 'adorable person with some deeply toxic traits' in two flavors.
Willow, the good person with very toxic traits she struggles against and starts to grow out of it, and Lily, the completely toxic person with a good veneer who never does grow out of things and is a slimy manipulator trying to puppeteer her friends' lives.

Ok ok, so I just watched episode 6 of season 3….
Just as a reminder, here are my thoughts on previous episodes: LINK
I’ve been kinda mixed on this season, but this and the previous entry have really really raised my hopes again. My favorite episode was still Shuttle to Kenfori before this week, but I’m happy to say that’s not the case anymore. This one takes it. Reminded me of Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach, which I adore. I had minor issues with both, which put them slightly below episodes like Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow, Ad Astra Per Aspera, and A Quality of Mercy which I believe are some of the best in this show.
I put it out there as a disclaimer tho that I am a fan of this version of Kirk, and would not be opposed to seeing more of him in his own show (but please not in this one— also I’m not talking about a remake but additional stories set before TOS, as is the plan with year one.) That’s probably controversial, but the original show is my Trek show and the AOS movies do not do it for me— also I’m a sucker for nostalgia, and that show is so so important to me and I’ve always wanted more. This will not be the case for everyone and your enjoyment will be based on how you feel about this Kirk.
Now, let's move on to the actual episode (spoilers under the cut).
I believe this is the first time I’ve thought an episode of this show should have been longer, but I couldn’t help but feel that that intro was a bit rushed. I wished we had seen more of the Farragut than just 2 minutes. I would have liked to see more of that crew (like literally just a few more minutes would do) and the Captain. I think this would have made the destruction even more impactful.
However, this one at least gets going fast unlike the previous episode, and it sets up some interesting dynamics for the rest of the episode. Particularly, I loved Scotty, again. He really is becoming such a standout for me even though I wasn’t too keen on his introduction. He provided tension that lasted for most of the episode, which I really felt made this plot engaging.
One of my fears going into this episode was that it was not going to be too much of a Kirk episode, but I did not feel that was the case, though I did feel that the Farragut plot line held a little bit more weight than the one on the Enterprise. Pelia was another standout here, and finally, finally, I can say again, Pike was fantastic (and my opinion still stands that Anson is the best actor in this show— he completely stole the spotlight in that final speech.)
Other than that, my only other issue was again with the pacing near the middle of the episode. I just felt that the crew’s trust in Kirk came a little too quickly, but again, that’s just a symptom of a relatively short run time for such a big idea (which I also sorta wish was introduced a little bit earlier).
But that ending… I loved that freakin ending. Really made the episode for me.
I really liked the themes explored with Kirk here and Spock’s trust in his abilities… and if you did too, well there is a chance (maybe maybe maybe) that you may like the SNW fic I wrote on AO3. (Sorry for the self-rec but really I couldn’t help but feel this was slightly similar. Here is the link. Enjoy.)
Overall, this was an 8.7/10 for me and I can’t wait to rewatch.

a p2is remake may be what i want, but is it what i need?
wouldnt what i need most be a p4 remake?
i already like p2is. i dont need a remake if i already like the original. if anything, a remake has the risk of changing things i really liked about it
i do not like p4. a remake would be their opportunity to try again, to convince me to like it. this is especially the case with p4 in comparison to other games i dont like. almost all of my issues with p4 boil down to a few issues:
it feels horribly dated to me. its sense of humor and the way it addresses some sensitive topics just fall flat as a modern player. i also feel it kinda gets in the way of its themes of being your true self and finding people that accept and support you. its also hard for me to like the party when theyre being bigoted and assaulting each other for laughs...
ive heard that some of that insensitivity and uncomfortableness was actually due to poor translation instead of it being a product of its time
i subscribe to the theory that 3-5 have such uncomfortable jokes and messages because of their director. i think this is especially plausible considering even games almost a decade older than p4 do not feel nearly as dated. ive always thought p2is was shockingly based despite coming out in 1999/like 2010
the thing is, if atlus were to remake p4... theres a high chance these issues wouldnt apply anymore. theyd have a different director, they could fix translation issues, they could reword some scenes to feel more like individual character flaws than a societal statement, etc.
weve already seen this in p3r! they took out the garbage trans joke, and even went so far as to add some extra hints to ryojis bisexuality i think!
i dont think every flaw needs to be erased btw. i dont want it to be like what i heard happened to the atla remake where sokkas sexism was scrubbed. i suppose my hope is that modern atlus would tweak the awkward moments to make them come across more like a character flaw that needs to be worked on instead of just being comedy or treated as normal. i think the sort of things id want to see changed are:
a friend and i, who both dont ship souyo btw, have had conversations about how just adding back the yosuke romance would recontextualize all his homophobic moments into something i honestly wouldnt have much issue with. tbh from what ive seen theres already enough framework throughout the game that that could be the source of his bigotry, it wouldnt take a lot of alterations to have it follow through
ive heard teddies creepy scenes dont come across that way in japanese due to language nuances and the voice acting implying hes a confused kid parroting yosuke instead of the disgusting incel teen i saw him as when i played. making teddies nature more clear in english would be lovely. id still hope some of the more egregious SA scenes are taken out or changed but im sure just clarifying his age and motivations would already make me feel much better (or at the very least have him face more serious consequences for treating his friends that way)
i think the wording in naotos persona awakening scene felt fairly transphobic at times. there could be some yosuke scenes that would still feel like atlus not condoning homophobia even if his motivations were changed. there could be other issues im not remembering rn. some gentle editing of the more dated moments might need to occur for me to see a remake as an improvement
looking back at my list of issues and fixes, it kinda looks like im just illiterate and need my hand to be held to understand wtf is going on in this game lmao. that could be true, though from what i understand im nowhere near the only person thats taken issue with how some aspects of the game have aged. either way, im just yapping my basic ideas for the perfect p4 remake. i dont think my intention was to say this is what atlus should absolutely do, im pretty sure im just writing out my hopes for a p4 remake thatd make me love it the way everyone else does! (also these arent the most well thought-out story changes and are based on vague memories or screenshots. i wouldnt be surprised if it turns out my ideas would have big ramifications for the game. if removing naoto saying ftm transition is impossible butchers her character or clashes with the setting or something, id understand pushback on that lol)

This has been in my drafts for a while, now that there’s so much evidence it exists it’s borderline leaked I feel I need to post it now

so i finally watched the actors on actors joe locke and charlie cox (wow two of my favorite british actors?? how lucky for ME specifically.) interview and may i just say-- one, i did NOT know charlie cox was a father and hearing him talk about his kids was incredibly sweet to me like go off king. but joe talked about wanting to do stuff beyond the gay twink thing and it really got me thinking because since HS, kit connor has been in??? A lot of shit. Wild Robot, Warfare and Romeo and Juliet and now he's being eyed to play the lead in A24's Elden Ring movie and I'm like 75% sure that comes from kit having been in the industry quite a bit longer than Joe. Like, Nick Nelson was a breakout role for Kit it wasn't his first role (and there is a difference.), so his acting resume is obviously bigger and that leads to more bookings/audition opportunities and stuff. And idk, maybe this is just me, but Joe Locke has a face for like fantasy and period drama. I could see him in something like HOTD, Wheel of Time, Shadow and Bone, The Witcher, My Lady Jane, etc. (I need him and Kit NOT TOGETHER BUT SEPERATELY, to be in something comedic very badly bc both of them have good comedic timing in Heartstopper and Joe specifically in Agatha was delivering on the funny bits.) Then I started getting HS edits on my FYP again which yay, I do love those. But one of them was very much a Joe Locke thirst trap and it ate but you wanna know what the comments looked like? "Oh, he's attractive but he's not Kit? yanno." or other really rude comments disparaging Joe's appearance which-- first of all, Joe Locke is objectively an attractive man. I did watch that HS interview when both Joe and Kit talked about receiving the "not conventionally attractive" comments and how that feels backhanded and YEAH IT IS FUCKING BACKHANDED. Joe Locke doesn't have iphone face, he's not Glen Powell or Henry Cavill but he is still attractive in that british way like Hugh Grant and Hugh Dancy (yes both of the Hughs, I know.) Also as a side note, Joe Locke and Hugh Dancy actually look very similarly to me like if Hannibal ever got a reboot, i think Joe could be in the running when he's older to play a Will Graham-esque character. (note* i don't want a hannibal reboot i'm just using it as an example here.) then that got me thinking about jonathan bailey's career and how he hid his sexuality for a long time and now he's starting to pop the fuck off and even the straight girls are foaming after him and what did that take-- playing a straight character in bridgerton. now he's going to be in that new jurassic park movie as well. and that's why people don't think joe is attractive, because they only see him as a gay twink and nothing else bc he hasn't had the opportunity to be anything else right now. i also do take issue with the consistent sexualization of kit connor bc it comes to a certain para social point, you know? but i also think that in hollywood, while being out about your sexuality is powerful, we can't deny that it still doesn't impact what actors are capable of booking bc it seems like Joe Locke is not being offered/ not getting auditions for anything beyond the box of like gay twink, and I feel for him bc he's hungry to do more and I know bc I'm me that he would be good at something else. So, here's some roles I think Joe Locke would eat up. I'm itching for a Shop Around the Corner remake, and I think Joe would do a fab job as Alfred Kralik (I'd also die for Rachel Sennot as Klara Novak just TRUST ME BRO!!!) I know Divine Rivals is getting a film or show or something-- hear me out. Joe Locke as Roman Kitt, do you see the vision??? You can't tell me he wouldn't kill all of Roman's isms. We know Joe is good at romance we've seen HS he'd fucking kill it. If Jonathan Bailey can kiss women in films and shows so can Joe fucking Locke.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from my own projects, I'm writing a romcom right now and I picture Joe Locke and Dylan Mulvaney as the love interests when I'm writing it. Can't share much else but I have a vision...

☆ My Top 10 Game Scenes: Honorable Mentions ☆
A little bonus round so I can finish the list tonight!
Navigation: ☆ Intro ☆ 10 ☆ 9 ☆ 8 ☆ 7 ☆ 6 ☆ 5 ☆ 4 ☆ 3 ☆ 2 ☆ HMs ☆ 1 Spoilers For: Please Be Happy, The World Ends With You, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 7 Remake (Part 1), In Stars and Time Content Warnings: Death and mortality
Honorable Mentions
Tumblr media
I have a few different items that didn't make the list that I still felt like including here! These aren't in any particular order aside from matching the order in the collage above.
Juliet at Cosette's Grave (Please Be Happy): A very raw emotional scene that stands out in an otherwise pretty cozy game. I've seen lots of immortal angst, but personally have yet to see it through the lens of a parent watching their child grow old. While mainly here just because the scene is a very good cry, it does also do an excellent job of explaining a lot of the issues Juliet has when you explore them later in her route.
Joshua's Composer Reveal (TWEWY): I like the final showdown between Neku and Joshua in general, but specifically the reveal of Joshua as composer always stands out to me as one of the only plot twists in media that really really got me, haha. I was so convinced this mfer was the Composer until he "died," so getting narratively juked by this will always stand out in my brain.
Sector 7 Plate Aftermath OR Honeybee Inn (FF7R): I'll be real with you. Honeybee Inn might have made this list if not for the fact I would have felt so guilty putting in that scene when the same game has such an emotional sequence after the plate collapse. I just really like seeing that edgelord humiliated, okay?! Is that so wrong?! I was absolutely hysterical watching it for the first time and laughed so hard when I played it proper I had to reload a save for the sake of my perfect combo in the minigame. Anyways, as for the sector plate fall I love Barret (my favorite when playing the original back in the day, possibly still now) so his reaction searching for Marlene in the remake makes me feel things. He's such a good dad... Generally while I'm not sure about how I feel about the plot changes in the remake it does the emotional scenes and dialogue (funny or serious) quite well.
Suspicious Quest Finale (In Stars and Time): Definitely the closest item to making my list, and the lack of ISAT here is probably a shock to anyone who knows me. That said, I tend to enjoy ISAT more as a whole than finding any particular scene exceptionally better than the rest. The final hug, boss fight, and ending as well as the SAY IT sequence are all quite good contenders but I think if any scene tends to crop up in my brain the most from ISAT it would actually be the ending of the sus quest. For such an emotionally repressed character, it feels like a great reward for a quest that requires a good deal of effort to let him have ONE moment of actual self-reflection as he wonders why they don't want Odile's help. It really says a lot about both Odile and Siffrin's characters and is perhaps one of the most telling moments in the entire game about what Siffrin's thought processes are like and how their repression actually functions; he not only doesn't voice his opinions but also refuses to let them in at all. They truly haven't realized their wish in this scene but still in their gut hate themself for it.

My frustration with "Maleficent" (2014)
Tumblr media
I kind of mentioned it before, but I can't stand this movie. While I enjoy the cast and the gothic vibe, the film ultimately failed to be what I wanted from a "Sleeping Beauty" adaptation for a few reasons.
Tumblr media
Aurora is STILL a plot device rather than a character--While she's seen a bit more in the remake, she's characterized as naive and lacking the sense of concern or danger that her OG self had about strangers. Remake Aurora is a means to an end in the Maleficent vs Stefan battle rather than feeling like she has her own autonomy; she's a pawn. It's just as bad as being a princess who randomly stoked the ire of a fairy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Leah and Stefan exist only to make Maleficent look good--In the original film, Leah is only shown a little and Stefan slightly more, being a protective father who understands the possibility of Aurora being overwhelmed when learning about being a princess and having an arranged marriage. But for whatever reason, the remake takes away from them rather than adds to them. Leah (now named Leila) is alive in the beginning of the film, but died offscreen at some point before Aurora was reunited with her. This was obviously done in order to make Maleficent the mother figure to Aurora, even though Aurora could've had both, with Leila being a more gentle and kindly figure in contrast to the pessimistic and scarred Maleficent. And Stefan is ruined, made into a treacherous man who betrayed Maleficent to be named the king's heir and cares nothing for Aurora other than keeping her from Maleficent. Nothing about him really seems to show caring or compassion for her, and it feels as though he only seeing Aurora as something to own as being king.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. The fairies are downgraded in their role--One can argue that Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather may have not always been the best guardians, the 1959 film makes sure to showcase that they have a good sense of caution and concern, warning Aurora of strangers and attempting to lock the house to prevent their magic from being exposed. They also help to rescue Aurora from Maleficent's clutches; Phillip couldn't have defeated her without them. However, in the remake, Knotgrass, Thistlewit, and Flittle (why they didn't keep the OG names, I have no idea) are much more out of their depth with Aurora, easily distracted with each other and only took her in by Stefan's command, rather than volunteering to look after her. Along with this, their personalities and individual dynamics are not as fleshed out beyond Knotgrass being bossy. They don't help in the battle, and while caring about Aurora, they saw looking after her as more of a hassle than anything--not to mention that it's only thanks to Maleficent that Aurora grew up safe and sound.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Phillip is a red herring--While originally a mature and heroic figure, the remake makes him feel much more youthful and naive. While this itself isn't an issue, he fails to do anything for Aurora rather than be a love interest; he isn't even a plot device like Aurora. He's just there. They could've easily removed him from the story and it be pretty much the same.
(Nevermind that this film isn't a musical.) Altogether, if they wanted to do a remake/reimagining of their own "Sleeping Beauty," I think they could've made Maleficent a tragic figure without demonizing/ruining everyone else's character (or in Aurora's case, doing nothing); make Maleficent always an ostricized figure who's hurt by not being invited to Aurora's christening, and during the final battle, Aurora, the fairies, and Phillip appeal to her better nature rather than kill her. OR if you really want to experiment, you could make Phillip a disguise conjured by Diaval to lead Aurora to Maleficent, only to fall in love with her. It's cliche, but different from the OG version.

In a story where the gold saints would be resurrected after the end of the war, I think i would choose to bring back Aiolos in a 20 years old body.
Because bringing him in a 14 years old would be terrible, seen how much younger than everyone one he would be. No mention that Aiolia protectiveness would…..endeless. Shura or Saga couldn't approch his precious brother at less of 10 meters, they couldn't even LOOK at him XD
And bringing him back in a 27 years old body would be…cruel and kinda unfair. Because he has already lose those 13/14 years. He didn't seen his brother grow up. Bringing him back in the body of a almost 30 years old…would be heavy, considering he was almost 15 when he died. Half of his life. He didn't live those years. He didn't have the chance to live them and mature, even if he was already someone who was very mature. He was still a young man.
So being 20 years old sounds as a good compromise. He's legally a adult. He has the same age than half of the Gold Saints. Even if he's younger than Saga, Shura, Death and Aphro. At 20 we still young, so he can still enjoy the fact to be young.
He would have lost 13 years but only 6 physically.
What do you think?
I think this all depends on how you view Aiolos' afterlife. As we know, since Hades and the Underworld exists and can be entered, that means ghosts and such are prevalent as well. However we never hear of Aiolos moving on or even falling into the death pit to the Underworld (Which meant he would have crossed paths with Deathmask at some point if we assume he didn't fully move on and was just wandering)
However the OG series (and the remake) pretty much tell you outright that Aiolos is still around in some regard. For example, the Sagittarius Cloth acting on its own and guiding the Bronzes/showing them Aiolos' last message (This doesn't seem to just be normal Cloth behavior, like we see Gold Cloths act on their own accord like the Cancer Cloth did, but the Sagittarius Cloth has a bit too much personality to just be a normal armor) or in the Netflix remake where he literally spoke to Marin as a moth/butterfly. Both of these instances have you believe Aiolos was there in spirit, watching everything, but then once he was certain Athena/Saori was in good hands, he finally moved on completely.
I think if we go by the assumption that Aiolos was around (in spirit) then giving him his chronological age is perfectly fine. If we assume his death was the end of all consciousness, then reviving him at his biological age at death makes more sense.
It may seem cruel but at the same time, I don't believe it would really be an issue either way!
If he's 15 again (biological) he gets his youth back. He can age properly!
If he's 28 (chronological) then sure he loses most of his teenage/early adult life and it's gonna SUCK losing that time but Aiolos is the type to look at it positively
If he's 20 (middle ground) then he still lost time, but he still gets to be a young man for about a decade before he hits 30
I agree with your emotional and outward points though! I think all are pretty good with their possibilities but I think I'd always be a chronological kinda gal

Been replaying DmC for the few free time i have, together with remake 4 and this wacky wahoo aristocratic foie gras The Council (play this..just for the heck of it)
And...I maybe missing something but It's just a thought. But Vergil implanted to us, the audience, and to Dante this Chosen One Narrative... Which is completely subverted by Dante himself, but also if we really look at the Nephilim themselves.
"The only ones that can stop a demon king are Nephilim." "Half angel, half demon, we are Nephilim."
The thing is, they're just powerful enough to thwart at least one too powerful active demon royal.
ANY NEPHILIM must've done that already in the past. Hence their massacre (apologies for the word but.... that's what happened & both Dante and Vergil have everything hinging on them, their the last 2 !!)
What I'm saying is, it's just convenient that it's just the two of them left.
I don't think Sparda and Eva even meant that they're anything special or the "Chosen Ones".
The way Eva explained why she and Sparda became together because at least, despite the forbidden laws, they freely chose to do so!
And that's the ongoing theme of DmC anyway: freedom through rebellion. Eva and Sparda's love and their want to meet their children, who are forbidden to exist because their higher-ups said so (because, yes, these kids are literally growing to become even more powerful than the forces of both heaven and hell [[and this is the best assumption of WHY they don't want the Nephilim existing, they don't want the power balance tipping over to a new 3rd party, and this is seen as a big problem because both angels and demons are having a war...what the war is even about, that i personally don't know... probably a moral debate that went extremely wrong, where now they want to apply their "morals" against one another, who knows...]]
... anyway their act of love and family, simply wanting their children, who are also a new race, to exist, is an act of rebellion. And they essentially want the new race of Nephilim to be free...
... which brings me to Vergil.
Because for some reason, he actually stands a bit antithetical to both his parents' stance. This became more evident in his dlc's ending.
It's no secret that Vergil actually sees the Nephilim as a race much more worthy than their predecessors, the angels and demons. And therefore, he makes a self-proclamation as a new ruler for being something more special.
Two things:
1. Someone special CAN lead. Someone who has leadership qualities can definitely lead. But not because of one's special circumstances suddenly and automatically equates that they should lead.
2. .... What the hell Vergil??!!? I think this is an ongoing issue among reboot fans anyway: what was it that made Vergil have this ideology?
With already the presumption that Ninja Theory was unable to shed anymore light to Vergil because a.) They're already not wanted by a hardcore audience, and Capcom was already seeing the temperature....so they had to pack their bags and leave.. and b.) The way they structured DmC was basically awaiting for a sequel (which will never happen). And it seems with the dlc being Vergil, the sequel likely was going to transition more to who Vergil was, and who he had become... Which will never happen😔
The best I can interpret is that, since he had been adopted into a human family with a much more well-off social status, perhaps this is where Vergil saw the unethical and depraved side of humanity, the ones who can afford to get away with anything.
So if he had more power and control over humanity, he'd essentially be controlling the richest and most powerful humans, and maybe make them benevolent or..you know, make them do other concepts about responsibly handling their power and resources.
... anyway uhh I guess Vergil's idea of a Chosen One is being the best elected royal of the world ?😌?? 😅
open to conversations because honestly, the 3 games I'm playing actually have similar themes about how to handle power so ehh

ok EPIC i will send this in a separate ask i guess. a couple categories depending on what's more up your alley
2d games: sonic mania is a good starting point i think, also the original trilogy (particularly 2 and 3&k) (you COULD play them through origins which would also let you play as amy!!! but origins isn't the best so. probably go for an alternative)
3d games: there's been different kinds of 3d sonic gameplay over the years sooo:
sonic adventure 1 and 2 are both good albeit kinda janky. haven't played much of 1 but can attest that 2 is fun and also has shadow the hedgehog
(pro tip: most sonic games range from kinda janky to mega janky)
i personally love sonic colors (the wii version) which is boost style gameplay. i believe it's one of the better 3d sonics tho by no means perfect
sonic unleashed just got a rly good pc port and also has mods to play as transfem sonic and. donkey kong lol
i wouldn't suggest playing sonic and the black knight for a few reasons (namely jank) BUT lorewise it's quite popular in the sonic fandom so watching the cutscenes would be cool. shadow is lancelot isnt that epic sauce
sonic x shadow generations is fantastic!! combo of sonic generations (which is a solid game and has a mix of 2d and 3d style gameplay) and shadow generations which is one of my favorite games of all time. also one of the least janky
sonic 06 also has a pc port/sorta remake called project 06 which is probably the best way to play it because 06 is notoriously buggy. even though it doesn't actually canonically happen it does introduce silver and has rly good shadow characterization
sonic heroes is also pretty important lorewise so play it or watch the cutscenes or something idk. it has neo metal in it <3
and finally for games play the murder of sonic the hedgehog because it's good and fun and free on steam 👍 barry the quokka my beloved
anyway moving on to other media
shows:
sonic prime doesn't have the best writing but i think it's pretty good and it also has good shadow characterization. also it's really fucking gay
there's also sonic boom which is episodic and i got bored after 1 episode ngl. the youtube compilations of funny moments are the best parts of that show
finally sonic underground which i haven't seen and is an older cartoon but is apparently really good
comics:
idw is the most accessible bc it only has 77 issues so far + specials and annuals however characterization is variable.... amy and silver are great but shadow SUUUUCKS
the dc crossover only has 1 issue out so far and it's not perfect but it's pretty fun. batman immediately clocks shadow as having seen a loved one die in front of him which is hilarious
archie is a hellish maze there's so many issues and overlapping side series with the main comic and you have to deal with ken penders echidna bullshit so not recommended unless you're in really deep like me
and then fleetway idk anything about i havent gotten there yet. it's british and amy is a butch who wears a kilt and uses a crossbow
also some games have tie-in comics like frontiers and. team sonic racing for some reason
movies: personally. i do not like the movies. primarily because paramount is a piece of shit but there are several other reasons i can elaborate on if you really wanna know
youtube stuff:
a bunch of the games have tie-in animated shorts on youtube (frontiers, shadow gens, colors, and mania and maybe some others im forgetting) which are all good and have amazing animation. shadow generations dark beginnings and the sonic mania adventures shorts are my personal favorites
chao in space bcus it's adorable. in a similar vein the first episode of chao tales came out today which i am going to go watch right after i finish writing this ask
twitter takeovers because it's fun to hear the characters talk about random shit. shadow agrees to marry a fan. it's great
tailstube if you like little lore bits and character interactions in general
shit this got long oops. ok uh final other things..... sonic rush and sonic rivals duologies are important lorewise (canon introductions of blaze and silver respectively) so watch the cutscenes or smth if you want idk. and uhhhh yeah. ill probably think of other things once i send this ask but it's already ungodly long oops
god damn tysm ill be honest when i said i didnt know shit abt sonic i lied a little. ive seen all of snapcube’s dubs. which still pretty much means i dont know shit abt sonic. but thank u so much this is sick af ill let u know if i play slash watch anything !!

Sci Fi Month :50's vs 80's The Thing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So part of Sci Fi Month this year ,I wanna do an experiment where I look at the 80s Sci Fi Remake Quartet
The 50's was the rise of science fiction as a genre ,and lead to many classic films, and especially loved by kids and by the 80's these kids had grown up and decided to put new spins on the ideas.
Now remakes get a bad rap,but the Sci Fi remakes of this period are gnerallly considered some of the best remakes ever.
So what I want to do is look at both the original films and the remakes ,so your kind of getting two reviews in one
Starting off we get one of the big 3 Sci Fi claasics of 51 (ALong with When Worlds Collide and The Day The Earth Stood Still being the others ) and a loving remake done by the legendary genre filmmaker John Carpenter :The Thing from Another World and The Thing
Plot of both movies:At snowy research facility an alien creature is running amuck
So its kind of facinating cause the legacy of these two films has actually shifted .The Thing From Another World was considered a capital C Classic, produced by the legendary Howard Hawkes with that signature Hawkes flare (NOT DIRECTED ,PRODUCED .Christain Nybie directed the film, not Hawkes ) ,a great bit of science fiction horror while the remake was seen as gorey trash .....And then in the last 40 years it shifted ,where the remake is now seen as a masterpiece and one of the greats of horror cinema and barely anyone talks about the original ,or does it dismissively though it still has fans (My dad is a fan )
Now Ive seen both films multiple times(4 times in full for the 51 film, probabbly 5 times for 82 film ) ,and for this rewatch I watched them back to back to really gather my thoughts
My thoughts on 51 films.....Is that I wish I loved it but I dont .Now Ive grown to like it and I think its a very important film ....Its just not one of my favorites
What I like about it is theres some really good subtle humor, mainly surrounding the reporter Scotty that is legit funny, specifically one scene where the Thing attacks .I also like the chemistry between Margaret Sheriden and Kenneth Toby is charming as hell and Kenneth Toby is a really solid leading man .I also like Robert Conthwaites performance as the antagonistic mad scientist .....I despise the character but I'll get into that.I will also say there is a little nuance with the fact the soldiers are going agaisnt orders .I also honestly like the Thing itself ,played by the towering James Arness (Who I am happy to know went on to a sucessful TV career playing Matt Dillon in Gunsmoke and stars in one of my favorite 50's Sci Fi flicks ,Them! ),he's an affectively scary monster I feel.I think making him a blood drinking plant is neat idea and I think its kind of neat you dont get a good look at him....That said -
I have 3 big issues with the film, that while there are some good scary scenes with the Thing ,It doesnt fell like its prsence matters cause theres a big problem I have with Howard Hawkes films.....the protagonists tend to be too macho for my tastes ,like to the point they arent allowed to get properly scared .Now again Hawkes only produced but he was hands on and Nybie admitted to doing the film in Hawkes style.....And my problem is......I dont like Hawkes style ,the overlapping dialogue is neat but hard to follow ,the pro macho military stuff is eye roll worthy and....Hoo Boy....I hated the villainous scientist but not in the way Im supposed to.I like the performance buuuuuuuuuuutttttt his writing is obnoxious and frustrating an over the top characture of an obassed to ludicrus extremes scientists
SO yeah I like but have issues with the 51 film.....so how do I feel about the 82 film
My thoughts on the 82 film.....are its damn good .There are folks who swear by it as the greatest horror fim ever made and John Carpenters masterpiece and while I cant go THAT Far ....Its still pretty fucking great
Alot of my love comes down to the fact I just love the ensamble .Im actually baffled older critics bashed the characterization cause I think the cast are all very solid ,not only having a dynamic lead in the form of the usually reliable Kurt Russell ,but you also get Wilford Brimley playing crazy marvelously ,Richard Mauser who is great at playing the enigmatic dog keeper ,and you get the debut performance of one of my favorite actors Kieth David, not that you can tell its his first movie cause his film persona is fully formed!.And the cast is littered with great performances .I also think the Thing itself is scarier here ,a shapeshifter who can ssimilate anyone .Not only do you get a lot of very gooey gorey effects ,wonderfully created by Rob Bottin (Who exhausted himself so much they had to bring in Stan Winston to do the dog monster )....But the film is drenched in dread and paranoia ...To the point it kind of breaks movie rules.Theres a lot of unanswered questions .....And it actually makes the film better .Like the hero at one point kills an innocent guy to show how and paranoid everyone is .I know Christain Nybie criticised the down ending but homestly for me it is one of the monst perfect movie endings ever
Soooooooooooo yeah I think the Thing 1982 is the better film .I do reccomend people watch both though
Please share your oppinions as well

Aerith, Claudia and the importance of their fates in Aya's story
If you go back to my newest introductory post for Aya, you can notice that, while only “Claudia lives” is specified in the Active AUs section, it’s clear that Aerith was also meant to defy her canon fate. The reason for the discrepancy is that “Aerith lives” was actually another active AU, before it wasn’t, possibly somewhere around finishing Aya’s pre-FF7 story, but I was too lazy to check for the remaining references in this post’s body.
I’ve made this decision for a seemingly obvious reason - Aerith’s death is too important to FF7’s story, as well as it was too important to me, to a point where I was at times forcing myself a bit to even finish the game after the end of the game’s disc 1. Only recently, though, I’ve started wondering why I didn’t feel the same way with Claudia, whose canonical death obviously had to have a devastating effect on Cloud, as seen in the way he speaks about her and remembers her throughout both the original and the remake.
At first the most reasonable explanation was that, obviously, without Claudia Aya’s initial draft wouldn’t even exist. Even though it was because of Claudia that I’ve made my first FF7 oc, it’s highly likely that I would end up making one anyway, while still focusing on my pre-existing hyperfixation with Aerith x Tifa ship. But whoever it would be, even if they ended up becoming a disgruntled cog in Shinra’s corporate machine as well, once again ending up as my self-insert, she probably wouldn’t end up as an enumerator - something that was born from a joke and was meant to stay that way. And even though I’ve greatly expanded on her since she was just meant to be Claudia’s future wife, her development could never happen without Claudia. Without meeting her, she would never have a good enough reason to quit Shinra, let alone going back to her crossbow practice and obviously leaving Aquana. Even in AUs where Claudia dies, it happens after they already met and Aya presumably (for now) watches her die after she had managed to change her world for a few months, receiving that needed push to leave Shinra, to later join Avalanche with Jessie, along with a good reason to still know Cloud when he appears in Midgar five years later. Just like Claudia, the Nibelheim Incident seems essential to her development.
While that’s a good reason on its own, it wasn’t enough for me. The truth is that Claudia’s death, my hyperfixation aside, never felt important to me. The game never made any effort to make it so, instead focusing Cloud’s grief on Zack, later Aerith, and if you really want to push it, on the town of Nibelheim as a whole. Anything but his mother, the person that singlehandedly raised him, always stood by him and, in the worst times, seemed to be his only friend. Only when you unpack what we know about Claudia, the scenes involving or mentioning her, as well as her relationship with Cloud in general, you really get to mourn her as a character, and Cloud obviously does so, having lost five years of potential coping with both her and Zack’s deaths, mentally being the same lost sixteen year old kid that lost his mom and his whole life, but the game never gives it any time or recognition.
Cloud has obvious issues with grief. In a big part, it’s the reason why he can’t remember things and took on the personality he did. It’s mostly seen with Zack, but the remakes seem to also want to show it with Aerith, as in them Cloud seemingly just doesn’t want or rather can’t acknowledge what happened to her, possibly preparing a big emotional rollercoaster to happen in the remake part 3. Still, there never was any real space for Claudia, probably because, while changes were made to Aerith as well, the flower girl was always meant to be important. Claudia was an afterthought.
Before I turn this post into a Cloud Strife analysis, as tempting as it is, since there’s a lot of great stuff to unpack there, what I mean to say is that, contrary to Zack’s or Aerith’s deaths, Claudia’s death doesn’t change anything - not in the story, not in Cloud’s trauma nor his personality going forward. While her death could accelerate what happened to him, he already felt lonely in Crisis Core, he already seemed to consider Zack one of his only friends and a role model, and he still lost his village. He still loses five years, he still largely regains his consciousness near Midgar and, to his knowledge, both Claudia and Tifa are dead. And given how little recognition the game seems to give to Claudia, her being alive or dead would have no influence on the story whatsoever. If Cloud finds out that she’s alive, fine, he still wouldn’t let her convince him to stop pursuing Sephiroth, since the stakes at this point were already too high to even consider the idea, along with some additional external factors influencing his decisions. And, as I said, he was still full of grief, he still had lost Zack and his entire hometown. He was still betrayed. Unless Claudia would appear in Midgar and maybe find Tifa before his reappearance, I don’t see how she could influence him to stop the fight.
In Aya’s lore, she and Claudia escape Sephiroth at the last possible second, thanks to Cloud, unbeknownst to him. When Cloud and the rest of Avalanche find them, they’ve already passed Gongaga, along the road learning that Cloud’s mother lives in the coastal town of Aquana, just south of the Gongaga Area. Cloud obviously thinks that his mom died, as well as he doesn’t remember Aya at all, with his memories of the Nibelheim Incident obviously being messy. The women get weirded out by his behavior and the reactions to mentions of Zack or Nibelheim five years ago. Brought up to speed by Tifa and Aerith, Aya chooses to go with Avalanche to learn what happened to Cloud and try to bring him back, obviously among other things. She also receives the confirmation that her sister, presumably along with the rest of her family, perished in Sector 7’s collapse; she wants to continue Jessie’s legacy, as well as exact revenge on both Shinra and Sephiroth. Just like Claudia can’t stop Cloud, she can’t stop Aya.
And what’s important about Aya’s journey is that she is sort of a vessel for me to convey my own experiences with the game. Who I liked, she likes and what I experienced, she does. How I view characters and the events surrounding them, she views in the same way. Just like Aerith was of utmost importance to me, she was to her; just like I was worried and confused about Zack, so was she; just like I wanted to kick Cid’s ass for the abuse he put Shera through, so did Aya - you get the point. She’s my self-insert. She views everyone and everything with my own eyes, if that makes sense. Claudia wasn’t important to nearly anyone, including me when I played the game. But since she has always been important to Aya, ending up as the love of her life, she could as well turn out alive in my OCs canon, still making Cloud believe that she died for quite a while, with her turning out alive not changing anything in FF7’s story nor past it.
As much as I love them, Aerith and Zack simply can’t get the same treatment and, upon reflection, I wouldn’t want it any other way. Let’s leave expanding on their interactions with Aya for some non-canon everybodyLives!AU comfort fics. Just like I decided to leave touching on Aya’s grief over Claudia’s canon death for another dedicated AU.
