Beneath Winter's Veil
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.1k, walks in the woods, banter, mild hurt/comfort, tooth-rooting fluff, warm and fuzzy feelings, gen or pre-slash, enemies to friends, ambiguos relationships. AO3 link
Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru share a tentative bond. When the cold threatens Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru's concern shines through. Perhaps, there's still hope for them.
Tumblr media
In the heart of an ancient forest, where whispers of old spirits danced through the trees, Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru walked side by side. Their footsteps whispered through the frost-laden undergrowth, the only sound in the serene landscape. Inuyasha, with his wild mane of hair and a glint of mischief in his eyes, kicked up snow with every step. Beside him, Sesshoumaru moved with the silent grace of a winter breeze, his expression cold as the ice that adorned the branches above.
Sunlight filtered through the leaves, dappling the ground with patches of gold as they walked. Their past was littered with the echoes of battles fought, a history of animosity that had once burned like wildfire between them. Now, however, as they traversed the winding paths of the forest, there was a tentative peace that hung between them, still fragile.
They exchanged few words as they walked, their silence punctuated only by the rustle of leaves and the occasional chirp of a hidden bird. Despite the lack of conversation, there was a sense of comfort. Though Sesshoumaru remained as impassive as ever, there was a softness in his eyes that belied the mask of indifference he wore. Inuyasha refused to acknowledge the warmth that bloomed in his chest whenever his brother’s gaze lingered on him, instead choosing to focus on the mundane details of the forest around them.
Inuyasha cursed at a particularly stubborn thorn bush that snagged his sleeve. Sesshoumaru didn't quite laugh, but there was a hint of amusement in the curve of his mouth. The tension that had once simmered between them had dissipated, replaced by a quiet camaraderie. Inuyasha would never admit it aloud, but there was a part of him that couldn’t help but wonder if maybe, their walks through the forest were something more than just chance meetings.
He pushed the thought aside, content to bask in the faint sunlight that filtered through the trees and the quiet companionship of the one he had once called his enemy.
The air was sharp with winter’s chill, but while Sesshoumaru remained untouched by its bite, Inuyasha’s breath came out in visible puffs, his cheeks flushed with the cold. He stubbornly refused to acknowledge his discomfort, though, his pride as stubborn as the frost clinging to the forest floor. Sesshoumaru took notice and made a fleeting jab, but Inuyasha took it in good humor. Their banter was as familiar as the winding paths they trod.
He struggled to keep pace with Sesshoumaru’s steady strides, though. Cursing under his breath, Inuyasha kept going, refusing to admit defeat even as the cold gnawed at him relentlessly. Soon, it became clear that he was losing the battle against the elements. His steps grew slower, his movements sluggish as the cold sapped his strength. Though he tried to hide it, he couldn’t mask the shivers that wracked his frame or the way his teeth chattered with every breath.
Sesshoumaru could noticed the subtle signs of his struggle. His keen eyes caught every flicker of discomfort, every telltale sign. With a silent nod, he halted in his tracks, his intense gaze fixed on Inuyasha. There was a strange weight to the silence that hung between them. Inuyasha waited, his breath coming out in shallow puffs as he looked back with a mixture of defiance and resignation.
He braced himself for the inevitable rebuke, for the sharp words that he knew would come, but to his surprise, Sesshoumaru remained silent, his expression unreadable. Then, with a grace that belied his imposing presence, he reached out a hand and brushed a lock of hair from Inuyasha’s face. His touch was surprisingly gentle, a stark contrast to the cold that seemed to seep into Inuyasha’s bones.
Without a word, Sesshoumaru pressed the back of his hand to Inuyasha’s forehead, his touch cool against the feverish skin. He bristled at the contact, his instinct to push his brother away warring with the longing that stirred within him, yet to be spoken. He remained where he was, allowing Sesshoumaru to inspect him. There was something comforting about his touch, a warmth that radiated from him even in the midst of winter’s chill.
For a long moment, they simply stood there, locked in a silent exchange. An understanding passed between them, a silent acknowledgment of the bond that had formed between former enemies.
“You’re freezing,” Sesshoumaru stated, his voice as cool and controlled as the winter air.
Inuyasha flinched at the implication of weakness, unable to accept Sesshoumaru’s concern. Beneath the layers of defiance, there was a need that he couldn’t deny, a longing for the warmth of his brother’s touch that he had long tried to suppress.
“Yeah, well, what’s it to you?” Inuyasha shot back; his words laced with a bitterness he couldn’t quite mask.
Sesshoumaru simply shook his head, his expression softening ever so slightly as he reached out to take Inuyasha’s hands in his own. His touch was searing hot against Inuyasha’s cold skin, sending a jolt racing through his veins. Sesshoumaru’s hands enveloped Inuyasha’s, their warmth a stark contrast to the icy grip of winter. With a tenderness that took Inuyasha by surprise, Sesshoumaru rubbed at his hands, his touch gentle yet firm as he worked to banish the cold from his chilled skin.
His breath caught in his throat as Sesshoumaru’s hot breath brushed against his hands, sending a shiver down his spine. Inuyasha couldn’t help the rush of blood that flooded his cheeks, the blush betraying the calm façade he tried desperately to maintain.
“It's everything to me,” Sesshoumaru replied, his voice barely above a whisper.
In that moment, as the winter wind whispered through the trees and the snow fell softly around them, Inuyasha felt something shift between them. It was a subtle change, imperceptible to the outside world, but to Inuyasha, it felt like the beginning of something new.
“Let us go, you will become ill,” Sesshoumaru’s voice cut through the crisp air, his words a soft command that Inuyasha found himself unable to disobey.
Despite the cold that gnawed at him relentlessly, Inuyasha took comfort in his brother’s concern. It was an offer he hadn’t expected, a flicker of hope amidst the darkness.
"Yeah, okay," Inuyasha replied.
With a reluctant nod, he allowed himself to be led. Sesshoumaru put an arm around him, but even then, he had no complaints. As they walked, the distance between them seemed to shrink, until their shoulders brushed with every step and their breaths mingled in the frosty air. Though they may have started as enemies, there was a bond forming between them that even the chill of winter couldn't extinguish. Inuyasha wondered if maybe, their journey was only just beginning.

Core Gems
So when a ghost becomes injured, they have a last ditch defense where they retreat into their core. And I mean, injured badly where their body is rip apart to the point they can’t hold a solid form anymore. And they basically go into a hibernation state until they are strong enough to form again.
Ellie, Danny, and Dan are all injured in a final battle against the GIW. The organization was destroyed and the ghosts were safe but the halfas ended up being so injured that they reverted to core form and then went to sleep for a bit. When they woke up, they were still weak but at least recovered enough to gain consciousness. And realize…they are in some kind of auction…in the middle of a heist. It appeared that two furries (one in a bat costume and one in a cat costume) were ducking it out. And they…they were a necklace. All three of them had been turned into a necklace with their cores as gems accompanied by sapphires, pearls, and opals. And frankly gorgeous craftsmanship as the metal was crafted around their cores as if to cradle them and the other gems.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, they were too weak to take a form properly, they could still feel the strain on their bodies. But at least they could still communicate through their auras. Then the cat lady punched a hole in the glass container surrounding them and grabbed their necklace.
However, the bat grabbed the other end and it resulted in a sort of tug-a-war. Meanwhile, Danny, Ellie, and Dan were having a back and form commentary on the situation and what they should do. Completely unheard by the other party.
In the corner of their eye, the three halfas finally noticed a third contender. Some kind of clown who was…hold on…holding a gun?! And it was pointed straight at the two fighting furies who had yet to notice him. The ghosts’ protective instincts went into overdrive and they frantically tried to shout, yell, move. Just do something to warn the two but their cries fell on deaf ears. All they succeeded in doing was faintly glow which immediatly caught the attention of the fighting duo. The two turned to look at the strange necklace but right at that moment, the clown fired and a gunshot rang throughout the auction room. Having no other options, Danny and the others poured every ounce of ectoplasm they had to try and phaseshift, making the two furries intangible as the bullets passed right through them, but in their shock, the two jumped away in opposite directions and accidentally ripped the necklace apart. Gems and pearls went flying and the three cores bounced along the ground.
Luckily, the two finally noticed the clown and went to deal with him and his minions who had appeared. Seemingly putting their fight on hold and forming a temporary truce. The three halfas could only watch as the battle finally wound down, ending with the cops barging into the place and arresting the clown and his grunts, the cat managing to escape with half the scattered gems and pearls from the broken necklace along with a few other jewelry pieces (none of their cores though) and the bat leaving through a skylight.
The auction continued and in the end, despite being broken, their necklace seemed to have caught someone’s interest. A man named Bruce Wayne bought up every piece of the shattered jewelry wear. The auctioneers appeared relived that the item managed to sell in the end and gratefully gave it to him.
Bruce had no idea what happened at the auction, but he could have sworn that some of the gems faintly glowed right before he and Selina were shot. If the necklace was some sort of magical item, then he needed to understand exactly what has been brought to Gotham. It was unfortunate that Selena had taken some parts of the necklace but he utilized his vast wealth to make sure all the other parts ended in his possession. Now he would take them back to the mansion for examination.
#Dpxdc#dcxdp#kizzer55555 ideas#Bruce thinks the necklace is magical. He’s technically not wrong.#When he gets home he immediately puts each gem in a glass container to examine them. For the longest time though nothing happens.#They all look like normal gems except for the main three of the piece. He can’t identify what kind of gem they are.#The gems are perfect spheres with various shades of blue (with hints of green and white) swirling around.#The colors almost look like they are moving in slow motion. Still. Nothing happens as he examines them and no strange events happen.#That is until one day he decided to take the gems to be examined by a professional and a villain attacked.#A piece of building was about to crush him when a wall of ice appeared as a shield over him. After that he took them back to the cave.#Bruce looks up thousands of documents about enchanted necklaces and artifacts but finds nothing. He even calls in favors from JLD.#Zatanna doesn’t recognize them but feels some kind of power coming off the gems however it doesn’t feel malevolent (at least for 2 of them)#(The last gem is neutral.) Also Constantine was unavailable (*cough* hiding from responsibilities *cough*)#The other bats get interested in the gems. Tim has a theory that they are some kind of protective charms. Damian agrees.#(Everyone is shocked Tim and Damian agree on something). So while Bruce is continuing his investigation the other bats decide to do some#‘Field testing’ and take the gems out. Consequently the gems end up saving their lives and they discover a few things they can do like make#The wearer invisible. Intangible. Create green barriers/constructs. Create ice. Vibrate when an enemy is coming. And much more.#The bats fashion them into new individual bracelets/necklaces and think they are the coolest thing. They have powered up protective charms!#The halfas just wish these kids would STOP PUTTING THEIR LIVES IN DANGER! What are they MORONS?!#Most of the ectoplasms they recover is used to protect the bats and nearby civilians.#(Dan also trolls people and is mostly protective his siblings though)#People notice the new power ups. A rougue gets his hands on a gem and tries to use it ONCE to attack something but the gems didn’t respond.#Then it froze the rough’s legs to the ground.#Much time later the gems are swapped between the bats and alternated and have just become a new item in their belt#(batman was not pleased but eventually got used to it and begrudgingly accepted that they were useful. Especially when they save his kids)#They come to a Justice league meeting and Constantine finally sees them.#His mouth drops in shock and he frantically asks where they got GHOST CORES?! And this is when the bats finally realise what they have.#And are horrified to realize EXACTLY what they are holding and that these ‘gems’ were technically ALIVE.#Meanwhile the three Halfas have been kinda chilling but also working their butts off to keep this family alive. It was a fulltime job.

To all the nosy neighbour enjoyers, thank you for being that. Anyway here's my propaganda!! Just some of my favorite moments tee hee
Sorry if my BigB looks weird (I tried really hard :( ) I'll pretend that that's intentional given my rabbit hybrid BigB thoughts under cut:
Tumblr media
I made a little post about this before but basically BigB has such rabbit behavior:
1. Cannot help but keep burying himself underground like it's his natural habitat (seriously he comes back on ground to build a house on a mountain and then immediately makes an elaborate underground hideout again. Or how he built backrooms in SL and kept retreating there. Or how he was literally underground when he ran into Pearl, for Pearl to inform him that it was night time and BigB immediately wanting to retreat back underground. Or how he was underground for almost the entire "red winter is coming" session. Or)
2. Often fidgety around others
3. Constantly cautious but doesn't let nervousness show if there is any
4. More prone to keeping distance and watching rather than engaging
Idk he is extremely prey animal behavior (positive, affectionate) and I can never see him as anything but a rabbit now. I considered giving him rabbit legs too but then I was like nah. Because I think him having weird rabbit posture in a mostly human body contributes some inherent awkwardness and a bit of uncannines (fitting with his gaslighting tendencies). After all he's kind of out of his element above ground (or that's how he acts!) and that's when people are going to be seeing him. But just you wait till he stands tall for a change to tell someone off (like Cleo in SL or Scott in LimL). And with such posture, he inadvertently makes himself look smaller, which certainly would help him weasel his way out of undesired situations like he often does, eg by talking people into pitying him to save himself from dying. I'd also like to imagine him to be smart enough to manipulate his rabbit ears to not betray how he's feeling or to make others think he's feeling a certain way, unless he feels particularly threatened or something. That's maybe half the appeal of animal ears to me, that they can be an added tool for emoting, but a hybrid moving them in deliberate ways is a fun concept!
Oh and he has caving boots!!
I do kind of seethingly hate how he looks with his ears drawn back but I did the best I could. I really hate having human ears in addition to animal ears personally, but if I put his ears any further up where they'd look cuter (Pearl's antennae for comparision) it'll look really weird. Aghh whatever he's supposed to be awkward so whatever please ignore it Im going to cry
Also if you think the old design is cuter, it's almost certainly because of the lesser facial hair lol trust me!! And I changed the curly hair to be a bit less curly in likeness to Lee from Walking Dead because I did not realize that BigB's skin is basically that and I couldn't help myself. I was overall really unhappy with my old BigB design so yay for redesign. I swear its not just animal features that make things interesting for me...... maybe somewhat....

smthin about blitzø's romantic relationships defined by him as bodyguard, with fizz, with verosika, and with stolas. something about that being a part of his core, either as a negative (it's all about putting his body in front of theirs because he's the "less important" factor and it's the only real thing he feels has to offer alongside sex) or as a positive (he likes protecting others, he likes being of use, it's a good way of communicating how much he cares and he's good at it)
but yeah, that forming part of the foundations of those relationships from his side

Thinking about true love and book 7 again:
True Love is what allowed Malleus to be conceived by his parents and eventually hatched by Lilia.
True love is what put baby Silver to sleep by his parents and woken up by Lilia.
Sebeks parents were able to walk past the line of human and fae, of hundreds of years of animosity, and allowed them to have their children.
Love is what diasomnia is about and love is also what caused the OB to happen.
Love is as destructive and chaotic as it is healing and nourishing 🥹😭💚

As it goes with every new brainrot I have, it’s time for Kirby crossover again :)
Kirby in one piece! With one piece’s strong focus on dreams and found family, I thought it would fit for Kirby to be a pirate that dreams of sailing to the stars and beyond. Not that this is very achievable by normal means, but we know that it’s at least possible with Eneru and the Skypiea arc :D
More notes in the read more!
Kirby has the devil fruit power of the copy-copy fruit! A paramecia activated by contact and only able to copy one fruit at a time. It can copy logias and paramecias with no problems, though actual ability using the fruit’s powers is up to Kirby to practice and figure out. Zoans can only be copied to partial transformations and cannot be awakened. Kirby doesn’t have much of a mind for haki but has a lot of latent conquerer’s haki that he doesn’t realize— it’s one of the reasons he’s able to make friends so effortlessly.
Meta Knight in this AU is a retired marine, between Captain and Rear Admiral level. He has a bat model zoan fruit that allows him to grow wings, and is a skilled swordsman. He’s retired from the marines but acts a his own separate party that is neither revolutionary, marine, nor pirate, keeping his own fleet known as the Meta-Knights. Their actions are similar to pirates despite not flying a Jolly Roger. They claim territory to protect and occasionally fight other pirate crews, and they claim no allegiance to the world government. They simply go where they are needed. Meta Knight will sometimes sail with Kirby on his small ship, the Popstar, just to keep Kirby out of trouble and make sure the ship is well stocked and well-maintained and able to be seaworthy.
Dedede is the king to one of the small countries that isn’t represented at the Reverie. That means he has a lot more freedom to do his own thing, including setting sail while taking a crew of Dees with him and leaving the country in the hands of some administrative Dees. Dedede splits his time between exploring and sailing and returning home to run his country, with the help of his trusty second in command, Bandanna Dee. Dedede has a penguin model Zoan fruit, and Bandanna doesn’t have any devil fruit but is proficient in coating their spear in haki. They’re the designated save-the-fruit-user-from-drowning person when they’re on deck.
Kirby’s crew changes because a lot of the people he recruits tend to have their own responsibilities. His crew is also full of people he’s beaten. It’s not uncommon for Kirby to sail alone, though he gets into more scrapes than usual with bad weather and rough waves. It can hardly be called a pirate crew, but Kirby has collected all the most heinous criminals under his banner and as such, the world government treats it as a threat.

Marineford Law is no question interesting to me because he pulled off a surprise, motherfucker moment and the timing was so good to the point that both pirates and marines least expected it.
Before I proceed with this self-indulgent lawlu meta post, I will go ahead and say that everything that happened between them in Marineford is a catalyst of establishing their connection later on in the future arcs. I am a firm believer that those feelings™️ started to truly bloom in Punk Hazard and went downhill in a good way in Dressrosa.
Long post ahead. Enjoy!
When I was rewatching Marineford arc, the part where Buggy was already carrying an unconscious and injured Luffy and Jimbei, their conversation sparked my interest.
Highlighting the bit where Buggy was confused about Law's verbal tic of using the suffix -ya in referring to anyone, overall doubting him, then asking for Law's name. Don't forget that Law is a little shit (affectionate) so he proceeded to ignore all of those questions to say this:
Tumblr media
Interestingly enough, this part is tricky to translate. I found two translations that closely encapsulate what Law wanted to say here but mind you, and I will sound redundant about this with everything that has got to do with Trafalgar Law's speech patterns: he likes speaking in runarounds, purposely using terms with double meanings and connotations on them, and he's both reticent and cryptic. (I wouldn't say not to trust on his words but don't take them at face value.)
Law described his connection with Luffy as 悪縁 (akuen) which directly translates as evil destiny or connection.
Forgive me for a bit of sidetracking but the kanji used for akuen is the same with Robin's epithet which is "Demon Child" (akuma no ko). To further elaborate, 悪 (aku) means evil--both as intent and violating a moral code. It is also used to refer as the direct opposite of good.
Tumblr media
Going back to 悪縁 (akuen), in true Law fashion, this word doesn't only mean evil destiny or connection. Depending on the context, it can also mean unfortunate love.
(It sounds tragic coming from him, isn't it? If your mind was blown after this part, no worries, I am too. This part gave me so much whiplash when I was researching about it.)
So, considering these two interpretations of 悪縁 (akuen), that begs the question, what is Law's connection with Luffy?
On surface-level, they are enemies as Law said so himself. They're rivals when it comes to One Piece. Their common ground, which is only known among people that Law trusts the most, is sharing the same secret name of D. However, I will take one step ahead and say that they both went through the same tragic fate of losing their loved ones, for being weak and powerless to protect them. They were both involved in circumstances where if they were capable enough, they could've saved the person they loved the most. Doomed by the narrative and subjected to trauma that breaks their heart and spirit should they be lesser men to handle such misery and grief. It is unfortunate, disastrous, and cursed to love fully knowing the fact that the other person could die like the ones before them but these two have the biggest heart.
Of course, Law will never say it directly. Thus, settling for 悪縁 (akuen).
It gets better. He did say 悪縁も縁 (akuen mo en) and 縁 (en) itself means fate or destiny (especially a mysterious force that binds two people together). Additionally, も (mo) is also a particle that is used for emphasis.
The implication, in turn, of what Law said to Buggy can be translated this way: Strawhat-ya and I (will) eventually be enemies, but an evil connection is (the futuristic possibility of Luffy becoming his enemy) is fate (that binds them).
Law made sure to emphasize that their "evil connection" is fate: specifically, that mysterious force brought them together and compelled him to be there, that he was meant to sail to Marineford, and help Luffy escape.
These two translations are the closest that I found to be accurate but it's still scratching the surface of what Law said:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This entire panel between Ivankov and Law makes it funnier because he clocked him IMMEDIATELY.
Tumblr media
Ivankov asked if he's friends with Luffy to which he replied: no.
Tumblr media
He also emphasized that that he doesn't have any obligation to help him but then went on to say this:
親切 (shinsetsu) means kind, generous, gentle, considerate. 不安 (fuan) refers to anxiety, uneasiness, worry, apprehension. These are surprisingly direct words but of course, Law had to go back and be cryptic again when he followed up with 理屈 (rikutsu), which could mean two things: theory, reason, logic or (unreasonable) argument, excuse.
I think this panel did a good job for translating it.
Tumblr media
Law himself is providing Ivankov here the benefit of the doubt. To reiterate, Ivankov beats him to the punch which makes their entire interaction so funny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, brilliant translation for directly calling out Law's bullshit. Lmao. Ivankov says 直感 (chokkan) here. It means intuition, instinct, hunch. Please take the next statement that I will say with a grain of salt but "instinctively moving your body" is usually associated with the context of being reckless to the point of directly exposing oneself to danger, consequences be damned, in order to protect someone.
Even Law himself acknowledged that he's not obligated to be there, so why?
Unfortunately, this is the elephant in the room that Law will never address. Several characters even made sure to point out that he helped Luffy two years ago and he purposely dodges that topic.
One thing I can guarantee is that Law never did it to get Luffy to agree for the alliance. Hell, he thought of the alliance after reuniting with Luffy! He adjusted his plans by then. Additionally, he never used the fact that he saved Luffy's life as his bargaining chip and leverage to get him on board the alliance.
Lastly, this is too much for saving a life on a whim, isn't it, Law?

Garmadon is totally into strong women who can and will beat him to a pulp whilst cussing him out.
For some reason, it runs in the family.
Edit: you know that tag i added saying “wish i could say Morro too but he’s probably the strong woman in the relationship”?
Yeah, that’s the Fsm too.
No, I’m not explaining.

sometimes i do feel for the adaptation team of tged when it comes to the relationship between alicia and lloyd because like. they were fighting a losing battle since the very beginning.
either they respected the source material and got crazy people (me) pointing out that the protagonist has more chemistry and relationship build up with his best friend than he does with his supposed romantic interest.
or they change it in the adaptation to make alloyd have more interactions and build up and get crazy people (me) upset and questioning why they're omitting or changing scenes that make lloyd and javier's relationship deeper in the novel to make them seem less close than they truly are.
there's just no winning for them because this is something that is inextricable from the source material
in the novel lloyd and javier's relationship is the core of the plot. whatever they have going on is the heart of the entire thing. and either you accept that and the fact that there's bound to be people who will see it as something romantic and be disgruntled when lloyd is unceremoniously married off to someone he barely knew and did not want to marry for 90% of the novel. or you change it and completely destroy the core of the plot, ruining what's probably the best part of the story.
it's an impossible choice,,,, if you're someone who can't stand the idea of having a protagonist who's a little fruity with his best friend that is lmao

The Way of The Sword (Chapter 1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
18+. 3.5k, half-sibling incest, age difference, trust issues, self-steem issues, heavy flirting, relationship negotiation, making out, unresolved sexual tension, canon-typical violence. part 1/?. AO3 link, part 2, part 3. Let me know if you want to be tagged!
The search for Naraku might be over, but Inuyasha hasn't escaped his past. He drags it around like a ball and chain. Then he crosses paths with his half-brother again, and learns how to let go.
In which Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru go training together, and reach an arrangement of sorts.
Tumblr media
Although suitably scenic, the walk to the designated place felt like the longest Inuyasha had taken in his life.
He could feel neither youkai nor humans around. For the first time in quite some time, he was surrounded by nothing but nature and the occasional critter. Once, he would have welcomed the solitude. Inuyasha had never been much of a social creature, despite Kagome's adamant attempts to change that aspect of his nature. Now that she was gone, he found the silence terribly aggravating.
The clearing was difficult to spot. It was far from the roads and secluded in a way that seemed deliberate. The privacy of the setting added to his unease. Complex social situations had never been his forte, and in his book, this was the strangest he'd come across in quite some time. Perhaps ever.
Sesshoumaru's arrival was announced by a shift in the atmosphere. A distinctive electrical smell flooded the clearing as if a storm were approaching. Inuyasha's hair stood on end. He took a deep breath, fighting down the instinctive responses that his half-brother never failed to awaken in him. Daiyoukai could smell that sort of thing, and he didn't feel like making a fool out of himself today.
Inuyasha took a seat on a nearby rock and waited.
Eventually, Sesshoumaru walked out of the foliage, nonchalance painting his every move. Inuyasha stood up and put his hands in his pockets, trying to match his half-brother's energy. Internally, he was trying not to fidget. It still wasn't entirely clear to him what this meeting was about. He thought he had an idea. Double guessing himself was one of Inuyasha's bad habits, though, and one never knew when it came to the Lord of the West.
There was the chance that this would end in broken bones and unnecessary bloodshed, the way it did back in the day. It could also very well be another of Sesshoumaru's psychotic mind games. Although in recent times they'd seemed to reach some type of understanding, Inuyasha knew better than anyone how unpredictable his half-brother could be.
Sesshoumaru showed no outward signs of aggressiveness. Of course, to say that his expression was amiable or welcoming in any way would have been a gross exaggeration. There was, however, an obvious absence of glaring, which was already an improvement from previous interactions.
“This is unexpected,” Sesshoumaru said. “I did not think you'd be so punctual.”
Inuyasha felt his face heat up at the remark. Some of the tension left his body, though.
With time, he had learned to identify the subtle signs that gave away his half-brother's unstable moods. Although teasing, Sesshoumaru's voice betrayed no anger. There was that softness around his eyes that meant he was pleased.
“Khe, y’know me. Always full of surprises,” Inuyasha replied. “‘sides, I like to keep you on your toes.”
“Mmm, you certainly try.”
“So, are we doing this? Or did you make me walk all the way down here just for a chit-chat?” Inuyasha asked, casually unsheathing his sword.
Sesshoumaru was usually not affronted by his bluntness. That was something Inuyasha liked about him. Of course, he was a snob in every sense of the word, but more often than not Sesshoumaru was willing to indulge his boorish behaviors if only to maintain a semblance of peace between the two. Why ever his former nemesis would want to keep things civil between them when they'd always been anything but, Inuyasha wasn't sure. He figured he'd find out if he stuck around long enough.
“I see we are off to a bad start,” Sesshoumaru pointed out.
He didn't draw out his sword, as Inuyasha expected him to. Instead, Sesshoumaru stepped closer, seemingly unconcerned by Tessaiga's proximity. He reached towards the handle of the weapon, covering Inuyasha's hands with his own. The touch was light but insistent. After a moment's hesitation, Inuyasha slacked his grip, allowing his wrists to be maneuvered so that the sword was parallel to the ground. Sesshoumaru placed Inuyasha's right hand firmly on top of the handle, then moved the left one to the bottom.
“That's how you properly hold a sword,” he said. Inuyasha could feel a faint heat spreading down his throat. He was very aware of Sesshoumaru's eyes trained on his face, but couldn't make himself look up. “Keep a grip that's firm enough so that it doesn't slip, but loose enough so you can easily maneuver it.”
“Right. Sounds like a no-brainer.”
“And yet you've been getting it wrong all this time.”
“Oh, fuck off. I knew you'd be an asshole about this.”
When Sesshoumaru first offered to help him polish his technique with the sword, Inuyasha hadn't been sure whether or not it was a joke. The invitation had been quite rude and nothing short of condescending, which gave room to doubt. Yet here they were, and a part of Inuyasha was still expecting his brother to burst out laughing and call it a day. If Sesshoumaru was amused by the situation in any way, he was quite adept at not showing it, though. He seemed neither anxious nor unsure, as if this were just something they did every day.
“Your posture is wrong,” Sesshoumaru said. Without warning, he used his leg to push Inuyasha's feet further apart. “A wide stance makes keeping your balance easier.”
Inuyasha felt a shiver run through him. He was first and foremost a creature of instinct, and being this close to his half-brother had never brought him anything but pain. His gut reaction was to back away. There was something more to it, though. A nagging feeling at the back of his head told him that these touches were not casual. This blatant disregard for personal space was intentional and increasing.
Behind Sesshoumaru’s steady gaze laid an invitation, yet to be spoken. As if he were testing the waters, so to speak, while hiding his intentions behind elaborate excuses. It frustrated Inuyasha to no end. He almost felt like kicking him back. Reluctant as he was to start a physical confrontation today, he went for his next best weapon.
“Hey, hey, careful now,” he said, side-eyeing his brother. “I know I'm quite the catch, but let's not get handsy.”
Sesshoumaru gave him the most unimpressed look he'd ever witnessed in his life.
“Why, I would never,” he replied.
Rationally, Inuyasha knew that nowadays his half-brother had little to no reason to hurt him. Still, there were times he couldn't quite shake off the feeling that he wasn't safe around Sesshoumaru. That there were, perhaps, ulterior motives to this unexpected offer of camaraderie. For the most part, he tried not to let it show. It seemed petty, in a way. As if he were hanging onto resentment while Sesshoumaru, of all people, kept holding his hand out to him.
The whole thing turned out to be a tedious affair. Part of him had hoped for nothing more than a friendly match. It didn't seem like Sesshoumaru was about to entertain that idea, though. He was clearly much more preoccupied with Inuyasha's pitiful stance and the sorry state of his blade. Inuyasha couldn't help but feel a bit affronted.
He thought he'd learned the way of the sword remarkably well, for someone who'd never had a mentor.
Tumblr media
Afterward, they sat together by the banks of a nearby river. The day had morphed into a breezy afternoon, and the sound of rustling leaves and water flowing filled the air.
“Ah. A tengu spirit?”
“Yeah, one of those ugly fuckers.”
Inuyasha shifted to lie on his side, pulling out a piece of grass that had gotten into his ear.
“Is that how you spend your time now?” Sesshoumaru asked, looking down at him from the large stone he'd claimed by the riverside. “Guarding little human villages against filthy critters? How pitiful.”
“Whatever. Keeps me in shape and it's not like it's hard,” Inuyasha replied. “And who are you to trash on my past times? Only thing you do when I'm not around is brood and hang out with an eight-year-old. If anyone's lame here, I can assure you it's not me.”
“I stand corrected, then.”
“Sure you do, asshole. Anyway, it was a big ol' fucker,” Inuyasha continued, unbothered by the interruption. “And I knew they were ugly, yaknow, but goddamn, this one was on a whole other level. Really gave me the creeps. It was just for show, though. Didn’t give too much of a fight.”
“Tengu rarely make for worthy opponents,” Sesshoumaru conceded. “Not all enemies are so easily defeated, though.”
Something in Sesshoumaru's voice made Inuyasha look up.
Not too long ago, he wouldn't have been able to tell that anything was amiss. His half-brother was hard to read as a general rule, and Inuyasha was admittedly quite slow on the uptake when people didn't speak straight to him. Subtlety wasn't a virtue of his. They'd been spending quite some time together as of late, though, and the shift in Sesshoumaru’s demeanor was evident to him.
“What will happen when it's not a filthy crow chasing after you, but a proper Daiyoukai?”
Sesshoumaru was clearly not smiling. There was certainly a quiet, predatory edge to his expression though, and Inuyasha wasn't sure what to make of it. He suddenly got the impression that there was something he was missing.
“What you mean?”
Sesshoumaru seemed to carefully consider his next words.
“I mean to say that, for a hanyou, you are a fairly decent warrior." Sesshoumaru managed not to sound condescending, just barely. “But if you are ever to face off a true Daiyoukai, that will not help you. Some levels cannot be reached without proper training.”
“The fuck is that supposed to mean?” Inuyasha said, hackles rising.
It occurred to him, for a moment, that Sesshoumaru was trying to pick up a fight. His brother did not rise to the challenge, though. He merely looked down at Inuyasha’s thunderous expression and chuckled. He looked irritated, but almost in a fond way. As if he wanted to be mad at Inuyasha, but couldn't quite manage.
“You've never had a proper mentor,” Sesshoumaru said. It was not a question. “One can tell from miles away.”
“Well, duh,” Inuyasha replied, crunching his nose. “Who would I ask, dumbass?”
“That is quite unusual, for youkai your age.”
“Yeah, well, you said it.” Inuyasha shrugged, settling back down on the grass. “For youkai.”
Sesshoumaru did not reply. Whatever he'd been trying to convey, he seemingly decided it was not worth the trouble.
Despite Inuyasha's initial worries, practicing sword fighting with his half-brother hadn't turned into a deadly encounter. It had all been quite dull, actually. His hands and lower back still hurt from all the times Sesshoumaru had smacked him with the sheath to correct his standing. At least they'd eventually progressed to using targets, even if the bamboo sticks did come across as rather underwhelming opponents.
As vicious as Sesshoumaru's scolding was, Inuyasha couldn't complain. He knew better than anyone that his technique was sloppy, and they were far from the worst injuries he’d sustained after an encounter with Sesshoumaru. He'd be as good as new in the morning, anyway.
“Better to get going, I think. My camp is kinda far,” Inuyasha said, squinting at the horizon. It was already late in the afternoon and the sun was setting. Sesshoumaru only nodded.
As Inuyasha made a move to stand, Sesshoumaru reached out. Inuyasha found himself staring blankly at the hand hanging before him. He hesitated for a moment, although he knew it was silly.
Once he thought he'd never see the day his brother would be able to take his hand without feeling disgusted. Just a couple of years ago, Sesshoumaru could barely stand the sight of him. Somewhere along the line things had changed, though. It felt like a big deal, for some reason. As if they'd reached a milestone together.
Inuyasha shook his head and took the offered hand.
Sesshoumaru pulled him up but didn’t release him immediately. As Inuyasha made to move away, he tightened his grip and pulled him forwards. Inuyasha went rigid. Being this close to Sesshoumaru was a peculiar experience. The old familiar scent of electricity was suddenly surrounding him, making his senses tingle. He forced himself to look up and meet his brother's gaze.
“You should know I don't make a habit of it. The chasing, I mean,” Sesshoumaru said. “It's not in my nature. Playing games does not interest me, and I’m straightforward when seeking this type of arrangement. If you tell me you are not interested, don't expect me to insist.”
Inuyasha stared.
He had not thought Sesshoumaru would actually say it out loud.
A number of things became clear to Inuyasha, all at once. He understood now why Sesshoumaru had invited him to practice sword fighting together when they'd never done such a thing in the past. Why he’d chosen this secluded clearing for their meeting, away from interruptions and prying eyes. His half-brother had spoken about proper training and a mentor because he'd been making an offering. Inuyasha wasn't sure what to think. He'd never had a master before, although it was a fairly common practice between youkai warriors. He'd figured it came with the package of being a hanyou.
Despite his mild understanding of it, Inuyasha also knew this type of arrangement went far beyond training. Mentorship had to be traded in for something, and he didn't know if he was ready or willing to give it. Especially to Sesshoumaru.
“I wasn't,” he forced himself to say. “Playing games, that is.”
“Ah, you weren't?”
“No, I just didn't think… didn't think you actually meant it. Like, you were just - I dunno, fooling around,” Inuyasha said, almost dragging out the words. His face felt very hot. “I mean, we ain't got a nice baggage.”
“That doesn't bother me.”
“Oh.”
Inuyasha was very aware of Sesshoumaru still holding his hand. His grip was firm yet careful. He kept rubbing circles on the palm with the pad of his thumb. It'd been a very long time since anyone had touched Inuyasha with such gentleness. He wouldn't have thought Sesshoumaru was capable of it.
“Does it bother you?”
“No, I'm not saying that, it's just-” Inuyasha cut himself off.
He knew what he wanted to say. Knowing it and actually getting it out there seemed like two very different things at the moment, though. This is why he avoided direct confrontations whenever possible.
“Ah. Perhaps this is your way of letting this Sesshoumaru down gently?”
“No, that's not what this is.”
Inuyasha’s eyes were trained on the ground.
“I just… don't get it,” he said. “I'm still me, yaknow? It's not like anything's changed.”
“What hasn't changed?”
“Who I am.  What I am,” Inuyasha replied. He was trying very hard not to sound bitter. “Why would you want this?”
At first, Sesshoumaru kept quiet. Inuyasha wondered if he was pondering what to say, or if he simply had no answer to give. Perhaps Sesshoumaru himself didn't understand the reasoning behind his proposal. It could very well be that he wanted him while still resenting his true nature. Inuyasha knew that sometimes desire and aversion came hand in hand.
It wouldn't be the first time he found himself entangled in that web.
“I thought we had agreed that was in the past,” Sesshoumaru said.
“I… yeah, I guess we did.”
Inuyasha grimaced. He wasn't sure why he felt the need to bring it up again, and now of all times.
In the past, even people who'd genuinely cared about him had found his heritage to be something of an inconvenience. Whether it was the demonic or the human one, they felt the need to choose a side - to pick him apart and build with the pieces something easier to call their own. Kikyo had been the only one powerful enough to make it a reality, but really most people in his life had had the same pretensions, to different extents.
All of them, except Kagome.
Ever since the human girl had gone back to her timeline, Inuyasha hadn't entertained the idea of pursuing anyone else. Building something worthwhile hadn’t seemed possible, with neither humans nor youkai. What right did Sesshoumaru have to ask that trust from him now, after everything they'd done to each other? It didn't seem fair, or rational in any way.
“You said your camp was far away,” Sesshoumaru said, out of the blue.
“Uh… yeah, I said that,” Inuyasha replied.
His brother let go of him, then. Inuyasha frowned as he saw him silently widen the distance between them.
“You should be in your way, then.”
Inuyasha felt his stomach sink. He hadn't meant for his silence to be interpreted as a refusal. For a being over 500 years old, Sesshoumaru did have a rather juvenile habit of reacting poorly whenever he felt rejected. He could see it now in his tight lips, in the barely there frown grazing his forehead.
“Hey, come on, don't get your panties in a twist,” Inuyasha said. He took his brother by the sleeve to keep him from moving further away. “It's not like I’m saying no.”
Sesshoumaru's only response was to raise his eyebrows at him. Inuyasha shifted where he stood.
“Can you just… I dunno, give me some time?”
Sesshoumaru stared at him for a moment, as if sizing him up.
"That would be agreeable," he said.
Inuyasha signed, only then realizing how tense he'd become. Neither of them tried to move away. Inuyasha picked at his brother's robe, fishing for something to break the ice.
“Your pickup lines are super lame, by the way,” he said, eventually. “Not to be a hater, but they are totally getting banned.”
Sesshoumaru didn't quite smile at his attempt at banter. For once, Inuyasha was able to identify the ghost of a smirk playing on his lips, though.
“I'm glad to know I was able to amuse you so.”
Sesshoumaru stepped back into his personal space, hand resting just to the side of Inuyasha’s waist. As intimidating as it could be to have his brother stand so close, Inuyasha couldn't deny there was also a thrill to it. Underneath that primal instinct to flee, there also ran a need to stay and tempt the danger. To bare his neck and submit to the tremendous power Sesshoumaru held.
Inuyasha still wasn't sure how much of those impulses were a result of attraction, and how much of it was nothing but raw instinct. Even now, he didn't think he entirely understood his demonic side. It occurred to him for the first time that if he accepted, this was one of the many things that would become clearer to him, eventually. He wasn't sure whether the way his stomach flipped was due to fear or excitement.
Inuyasha's awareness tunneled as he saw Sesshoumaru leaning forwards. Fingers were curling around his neck, and the scent of rain filled his senses. Inuyasha barely registered their noses awkwardly bumping together as their lips met.
Due to both naivety and lack of privacy, Inuyasha's past relationships distinctly lacked any carnal component. Making out had never felt like the preamble of something else. This was different. Exponentially different. Not at all sure what to do with his hands, Inuyasha found himself gripping the yellow obi surrounding Sesshoumaru's waist. Heat was steadily spreading through him.
Even with the armor on, Sesshoumaru's body felt warm and welcoming around him. As soon as the kiss began, though, Inuyasha could feel him pulling away. He took him by the shoulder, forcing him to stay. To prolong it for just a little longer. Sesshoumaru smiled against his chin and bit playfully into his lower lip. It felt right, in a way. As if Inuyasha were saying, however indirectly, that he did want him back.
As they pulled apart, there was a glint in Sesshoumaru's eyes that hadn't been there before.
“Same place and time, three days from now,” he said, voice unusually low. “If you do not come, I'll know what your answer is.”
Inuyasha nodded, not feeling up to the task of speaking just yet.
That day they bid their goodbyes and parted ways. Inuyasha still wasn't sure what to make of what had been said, or what his answer would be next time they crossed paths. His misgivings, as usual, would not leave him. It was only as he was making his way back to the village that realization dawned on him. During their training, Sesshoumaru laid hands on Tessaiga. Not once, but many times.
The sword had not burned him.

RealAgeAu Drabble - Cafe Gossip
I am back with another Drabble <3 It is another kitty one hihi.
First Drabble Prev Drabble Next Drabble
Also. @spotaus You better be ready :D
Timeline wise? about like... 9 months after nightmare got deaged. Guys have been in farmtale for like half a year (so where the gang is it is winter)
*--------------*
Ccino sighs as he tries to find the damn cattoy. He swears Berry hid it somewhere around the cattree. He just knows. He can see Berry staring at him with joy as Ccino searches.
Ccino huffs as he shoots a glare at Berry "Anyone saying you don't like pranks is a filthy liar."
Berry has the nerve to jump down and nuzzle him with a purr before wandering off.
Ccino starts to doubt if the toy is actually here. He sighs and sits down at the base for a moment. Watching as Dream's cat version, Sun, rushes by. Sniffing, searhcing and crying loudly.
Sun makes a lot of noise as he goes and it breaks Ccino's soul.
Sun rushes to another room and a lot of noise comes from it. Well, that doesn't matter really.
It isn't like he gets cross-universe customers anymore anyway.
Ccino used to be a bit of a hotspot for other travelers. They all loved to visit him and eat as his cafe.
But... well.
That changed when he heard people whine about the damage that Nightmare and his gang had done.
And ccino had questioned why they thought they knew better than an actual god whoes job it was to do what he was doing.
That had just been the start. people said he agreed with what they were doing and how. Ccino tries to explain multiple times he doesn't say what happens is right. but he also tried to explain that just that it is stupid to think they knew better if they don't even know their reasons.
Quite a few insults his way later and the customers left.
It continued like that for a while. Now his place is a lot more quiet than it used to be. Ccino doesn't mind however. Honestly? this way at least the special cats cna mvoe around freely without Ccino having to be worried someone will connect the dots.
And people from his own universe still visit anyway so he is good still.
Ccino sighs as he rises to his feet and quickly goes to the counter. he crouches down and opens a cabinet and smiles softly "hey there Noot." he slowly reaches his arm and hand inside.
Noot blinks his one good eye open and sniffs the hand. then he pushes his head into Ccino's hands for pets which he happily gives one of his favourite cats.
Noot purrs loudly and Ccino feels a part of him relaxes. At least Noot didn't seem to get worse and evne the vet agreed.
...
Look maybe he shouldn't have taken a cat that is somehow connected to a very important person in the multiverse but Ccino was panicking!
He was so afraid Noot had been dying and by expansion Nightmare! He got the cat packed up and took him to the vet.
Ccino doesn't think he ever heard Murder, Oreo, Stain or Rust sound that panicked. ever. ccino had felt horrible about taking Noot away form them. The tiny kitten crying had been soulbreaking.
But he needed to be sure. So he took Noot straight to the vet and waited.
After a long examination and some vague lies the vet reassured him that Noot was just an old cat. To make sure the cat was comfortable and to let him rest his body when he felt the need.
ccino had felt such intense relieve he doesn't think anything is going to meassure up to that. ever. He happily took Noot back to the cafe and let him and the others of his little cat gang cuddle as he got to work.
He hallowed out one of the cabinets and made a comfortable little cat den for Noot and any of the cats that followed him around.
Ccino sneaks a look into the cabinet and smiles "alone today?"
Noot just keeps nuzzling his hand.
a sound of something landing. Ccino glances up and sees Murder on top of the counter, staring menacingly at him, which is sightly ruined by the cute kitten he holds in his mouth.
Murder huffs and quickly jumps down and climbs into the little cubby. He lays the kitten right by noot before starting to groom the bigger cat.
Ccino chuckles before rising back to his feet. He leans on his hand as he watches his cafe and keeps an eye on his cats.
Eventually Ccino's eye lights find a pamphlet. He takes it into his hands and rereads it.
It is a message from the Stars. a short explanation that Dream had been in the wrong and making things worse while Nightmare had been helping people.
It felt amazing being right.
Ccino chuckles as he hangs it on the news board before moving back to the counter. His mind thinking back to the one time he met the Stars... It had been ages ago. Back when the Stars patrolled the multiverse for the Crescents. longer than a year ago...
Ccino sighs as he grabs Stain off the counter again. He tried to give the cat a strict look "don't do that. you could get hurt." Stain just makes a little blep as he stares at him.
Ccino chuckles as he puts the cat back to the ground. Stain looks insulted by the very idea of it before huffing and walking off.
He smiles at the cats carefully before stretching his limbs out.
All in all it had been rather quiet today. Some customers had come by and one of the older cats had been adopted. it always warmth his soul to see one of the older gentle cats finally finding their forever home.
The bell rings and Ccino looks up with a smile "Welcome to the Cuddle Cat!" then he sees who it are and freezes.
He never actually met or saw them in person before. His little corner in his nowhere cafe wasn't exactly a big place. it was just a quiet spot people who wandered lost tended to find. It is how most of his cats arrive here too.
So no. He had never truly expected the Stars to just walk in.
The three walk over with purpose and the one with the golden crown smiles brightly. Ccino immediantly knows this is Dream. Mostly because well... it is just the shape of Dream's face is exactly like Nightmare's...
Dream doesn't seem to notice or maybe he assumes his shock is because of awe? Ccino doesn't feel excited. in matter of fact. he feels a bit sick. Wait! What time is it?!
He glances at the clock. okay. okay. it is only 3. that gives him enough time to get these three out before Ngihtmare's normal arrival time.
Oh shit he really is going to lie to the Stars isn't he?! No Ccino. don't panic. Maybe they won't even ask about that stuff?
Dream starts speaking and Ccino focusses back on him. Dream smiles as he speaks "Hello, I am Dream. and these are my teammates Blue and Ink." Blue waves when his name is said and Ink puffs up his chest when he is named. Dream smiles "We are the Stars. we protect the multiverse."
Ccino gives a slow nod "Yeah.. I heard about you guys. euh... welcome to my cafe. it is a cat shelter and cafe in one, if you wish i could tell you a bit about the concept?" when in doubt return to your customer service lines and voice. go full npc.
Drema blinks before looking curiously at the cats. he gives a smaller smile "I would love to hear it.".
Strange. This smile seems more honest to Ccino. Well, not his business.
The cafe however is!
Ccino takes a moment to explain how this place takes in wadnering cats nad helps them heal and socialise until they are ready to be adopted out again. The cafe is to encourage people to relax with some food and drinks to get familiar with the different cats.
At the end Ccino smiles "Would you like to order something?"
Ink grins and looks proud "We are the saviors of the multiverse!" he grins and looks pointedly at the food items "These all look very good! I would love to have some."
Ccino immediatnly feels done with all three of them even as Dream and Blue give Ink disapproving looks. Ccino had 'famous' customers before. Mettaton tries it each time.
Ccino smiles brightly back "Well! Let me know which one you want to buy! The prices are right by the display."
Ink blinks at him wiht two questionmarks in his eyes. Ccino jsut keeps smiling.
Ink frowns before grinning again "We are saviors. It would be very nice to be given thanks."
Ccino tilts his skull "What did you save us from exactly? I don't feel very saved. Not to forget. I don't do special discounts. if you want something you can pay for it."
Ink glares but Blue stops himw ith a shake of his skull. Blue pulls him back and Ccino can hear Blue berate Ink for acting entitled and just because some people gave him stuff deosn't mean everyone has to.
Dream smiles "Sorry for him." he pulls out a wallet and looks through the many different types of money and gold in there "Three chocolate milks and three shortcakes please."
Ccino nods as he gives the price before turning to make the drinks and get the cakes. It only takes a moment to ready the drinks and food and give them over in trade for the money.
Ccino gives them a smile and motions them towards the table as he turns to put the money away.
A moment later and Ccino can't help but feel like he is being watched. He looks over and sees the stars drinking but also quietly talking. Ccino notices the glances shot his way and it makes him a bit nervous.
It isn't like he made it a secret that he didn't allow slander of Ngihtmare nad his gang in here. maybe that protective feeling he had was going to get him into trouble after all. But how could he not? It wasn't his fault that he had found Nightmare sound asleep in the reading chair before, using his tendrils to wrap around himself as all the gang cats laid around him.
Ccino felt justified in his protective feelings.
silence surrounds them as ccino just does what he usually does.check inventory. check the cats. make sure the machines are clean.
The stars take a long time. it is already past four before Ink and Blue leave.
Only Drema walks voer to him with a gentle smile. Ccino raises a brow "Was something wrong with your order?"
Dream blinks and shakes his skulll "no! Not at all! It was amazing! It is just... I wanted to talk."
Ccino frowns and gives a slow nod "Well. It is quiet now so it should be fine. is there something wrong?"
Dream takes a deep sigh "It is... about my brother." his soul freezes and Dream gives a gentle smile "I have heard.. rumours that he visited this place. I wanted to be sure everythign is okay. and if you dind't realise at least warn you!"
Ccino frowns as he turns back to the machine "I have been clear to everyone in here. I don't allow slander."
Dream frowns as he looks unsure "and I admire that! But... it is for your own safety. If my brother visits this place I need to know. especially when he does."
Ccino shoots him a glare "and why woudl you ened that? To control my place? to control who is allowed to come here and go?"
Drema sputters and backs off looking shocked "of course not! It is for safety reasons!"
Ccino huffs as he crosses his arms "Give me the reason. Because no one here has ever been brought into any danger from Nightmare or the crescents. The people who make the most trouble are those who feel entitled to things or information or feel like they have any say in what i do with MY business."
Dream just gapes at him. clearly unsure what to do or say next. a bit of doubt appears on his face as he rubs his arm "I am just trying to help..."
Ccino huffs as he turns abck to the spotless counter to clean nothing "Give it to someone who actually asked for it or wanted it. I don't need anyone spreading hate and rumours in my place."
Dream just stared at him but afterwards he left.
Ccino is still unsure where he had gotten that bravery from. Protective feelings are overpowered honestly.
The Stars never returned.
Of course they didn't. Ccino had made it clear he didn't want them there at least.
It did slow his customers though and it was a shame to see that happen but at least he ddin't have to worry as much.
Well, that was before Ngihtamre disappeared without a trace.
THe bell rigns.
Ccino looks up and says his greeting wiht his normal smile "Welcome to the Cuddly Cat-" and he freezes.
Because that is Dream. Looking nervous and shy as he waves.
Ccino doesn't even think as he glares before speaking "Well if it isn't the god that didn't evne bother to read his own job description."
Ccino expected a lot.
He did not expect Dream to start laughing before smiling happily a she answers "I know right? I made a mess of things... It is just..." he rubs his arm "I heard you have... very special cats and i was hoping to meet them?"
Ccino wants to say no. Tell him to leave.
But...
The pamphlet.
The fact that Dream's cat version had been screaming his little head off searching for Noot.
Ccino sighs as he waves him up "make sure to turn the sign to closed please."
May as well see this mess through.

y’all ever sit down and think of the burden luffy has on his shoulders as (a GOOD) captain? way back in the beginning of the story he saved nami’s life by clawing up a mountain. he went to alabasta and beat the shit out of crocodile cus he was destroying vivi’s home. he fought CP9, some of the strongest forces in the marines besides the admirals, just to bring robin home. he went after a fucking yonko to save sanji from living as a hostage. it especially shows during whole cake island. he’s fighting katakuri after barely sleeping for Days while fighting an onslaught of big mom’s crew and he’s so worn down. katakuri, big mom’s top officer. his crew looks at him with so much concern and he smiles to tell them he’s okay. he wouldn’t let them get hurt. he would die before they lay their hands on his crew, and his stubborn ass refuses to meet death. it’s moments like this where i’m like, damn, luffy’s grown up. he’s never been immature when it matters, but the degree of severity of the situation has never been this extreme. he trusts them to stay safe while he’s gone because they’re strong but he knows they’d drop everything and rush to fight alongside him if he even gave them an INKLING of a chance that he couldn’t do it. knowing how deeply exhausted he was when he smiled for them felt like holding up the sky for a second. you just learned how heavy of a load luffy carries on his shoulders.
