Scenario for C2E43: Flee
Ok get the easy one out of the way first. Let’s assume that Caleb’s Wall of Fire was the opening move in making a getaway towards the Plank King in order to introduce a third faction in the fight.
In this scenario (and really all of our setups) we are unaware of initiative order and the CC capabilities of the foe. But this is what we know the Nein are capable of.
I cast Wall of Text (I’m sorry I’m still so emotional over Liam’s casting of Wall of Fire, you could hear the laden emotions and see the gesture creating a literal wall of flames sweeping the ship)
As a note, Wall of Fire does 5 Sacred Flames worth of damage in a large area, is opaque and probably looks terrifying.
The following are likely to be very helpful as follow ups to make a getaway.
Fjord: Hunger of Hadar. 20 ft radius magical darkness that no one can see through and blinds enemies inside (not even if Avantika is a Warlock with Devil’s Sight invocation, because it explicity inflicts “Blind”. So unless anyone has blindsight). AoE damage to the tune of 2d6 (and a possible following 2d6 if they stay in) and difficult terrain. Also, creepy as fuck. Could be helpful in intimidating. Fjord can also make some distance with Misty Step (30 ft teleport). 2nd highest HP at 72.
Jester: Darkness. 15 ft magical darkness (if Avantika is warlock with devil’s sight, then not that helpful). Combined with Fjord’s Hunger of Hadar and Caleb’s Wall of Fire, thats practically the whole ship, giving enough fuck off room for the Nein to get a headstart on bailing. Dimension Door is for a last sprint (perhaps up the cliffs) and can take a buddy along.
Caleb: He is the squishy one, the glass cannon key to victory. Incapacitating, capturing or killing him is the win condition for Avantika. He should probably put on Mage Armor and run. Shield for sure. Once far enough ahead, Fireball x3. The best defence is if there’s no one left to assault you.
Caduceus: Spirit Guardians. 15ft radius of fuck off angry fairies. The lynchpin of a fighting retreat; healing, negating crits, help chunk down enemies (Path to the Grave doubles an ally’s damage). Also, Calm Emotions (20 ft radius non hostility) could be key in getting the final way through to the Plank King. Note, Jester can do Spirit Guardians too.
Nott: Her skills are mostly single target, so she could function as a sniper of key enemies (Vera, Bouldergut or Avantika) in combination with Caduceus. Alternatively, with sufficient sneak power she could infiltrate behind enemy lines in the confusion and pull off the greatest fluffernutter Darktow has ever seen.
Beau: She’s fast as fuck, so no fear about her getting left behind (I say that, before Vera pulls out a Hold Person). Sentinel lets her lock down chasing foes and Step of the Wind gives a disengage. Stunning key enemies would also be very helpful in getting away. Might also be able to catch some bullets, but her HP is only middling.
Yasha: An absolute monstah. Able to go toe to toe with any one foe I think. Necrotic Shroud might be popped to scare off enemies in 10 ft radius (unlikely though DC 11 charisma save, reminds me of Molly’s Vicious Mockery saves). Might still be scary enough. Sentinel (damn you Travis, but also thank you Travis for suggesting they both take that feat) does the same as with Beau. She was almost made for holding off enemies, cutting down foes if they try to make it past the rearguard. Rage effectively doubles her HP against physical damage. Might have trouble against spells coming their way, but has the speed to outrun the standard grunt.
Well I think that caps off the first of many scenarios I can think off in the next 2 weeks. These are mechanically, in my opinion, the more effective means I can see the Nein utilizing to escape. If they are trying to escape that is. After looking over the stat sheets, spell lists I’m actually feeling a smidge of hope they can win the day with force of arms alone. Next scenario: Mutiny? Fight?

Played a couple of games of Critical Role Munchkin tonight with a couple of friends.
In the second game I was sitting at level 9 for a while, not drawing any monsters to fight and dealing with curses thrown my way. Finally drew a monster and one of my friends played a Wandering Monster on it with another very high level monster, making the combat impossible for me to win. I played Dust of Deliciousness and got away without issue.
Next turn I pulled a level 8 monster and my friends went to town boosting it but I was able to play cards to keep just ahead of it. But we were playing with a variation of the optional rule where you roll a d20 for both the player and the monster to see if you auto win, fail, or get bonuses. So I rolled…
NAT 20! AUTO WIN! 😆
And seeing all the characters got one of my friends interested and now he wants to start watching CR. 😁
#critical role#munchkin#cr munchkin#mighty nein#I made sure to invoke the name of Taliesin Jaffe as I rolled#he was with me tonight!#but I think one of my friends is Will Wheaton… he rolled nat 1s on both a d20 and a d6 one after the other

I’m SO sad. I preordered the Munchkin game in OCTOBER and was quoted that it would arrive today as recently as yesterday. Well, this morning I got the email that actually they don’t have them in stock and I’ll receive an email when they have an estimated shipping date.
There’s really no way they could have known sooner? Now it’s sold out everywhere and I just have to hope this doesn’t go the same way it did last time I got this error message when it got cancelled entirely.

I'm in Miitopia Hell
And I love every minute of it!
Kiri is the first Mii I made for this game, and now that I've got twenty forty-something characters worth of experience I decided to do an overhaul of Every. Single. Character...
I was very impressed with myself for making Essek with pentagon highlights and discovering the cheekbone shaders worked well for defining the bridge of the nose. Note the number of parts used.
Things changed quite a bit today. I lightened the skin tone (I may have gone a bit too light, I can adjust later), added some highlights and shadows to the entire face, narrowed the eyes and changed the iris color (using Essek's card from the Munchkin game as reference), added some jewelry, and darkened the brows.
Looking at it now, I still want to go in and tweak a few things and polish it up.
Pumat Prime is probably my favorite transformation thus far. Respectfully. So handsome! So friend-shaped! So... you get the picture. Unfortunately, I had the short-sighted idea to make him the king. I have regrets.
Allura! I made her the Great Sage, and have zero regrets. I think her new face is better overall (still need some color adjustments for the lips), but I miss the old bangs. Easily fixed! I made her eyes smaller so they look less buggy now.
Next on the list of overhauls: the rest of the Mighty Nein, all of Vox Machina, the DM and a number of NPCs that I adore.
Bonus: JoCrap and Tanjiro!
This is still very much a work in progress, but if you're interested in having these Miis in your game, my access key is 5KLPHXW!
Be sure to check back periodically for updated faces (my creations will have ※ at the beginning of their names).

WIP Wednesday? WIP Wednesday
So… it’s very rare that I would have anything that’s already a WIP, but this is a story that I’ve barely been able to cobble together, and I know I can come up with more. I don’t even know if I’ve been able to figure out the structure yet, but what I have IS a good first step.
So basically, it’s a post-canon Mighty Nein story, focusing primarily on Beauregard five years after the party went their separate ways. And it’s just past her 30th birthday. And this was originally going to be framed around an “art challenge” a friend of mine came up with.
(And just to get this off my chest: before anyone says anything, just because they’re separate does NOT mean they’ll never meet again, but folks just can’t help but assume that suddenly they’re no longer corresponding or anything which is totally not true, especially with Jester and Sending. So no, they’re not entirely separate, they’re always a Sending or Teleport away.)
ANYWAY… it’s just past Beau’s 30th birthday, and all is normal in Rexxentrum, when she is told of a peculiar delivery addressed to her… a delivery that she hadn’t expected.
Also, there are some allusions to some of my Whumptober stories, just so you know :D
As well as a surprise cameo by someone you wouldn’t expect.
EDIT: Now with a “read more” cut to make it easier for folks.
It’s a day like any other in the Dwendalian Empire. Despite the occasional perpetual chill from the Greying Wildlands, the summer season is still as warm as ever even this far north.
The capital city of Rexxentrum, home to the king himself and numerous shops and homes, not to mention multiple governmental institutions such as the Soltryce Academy and the Candles, the towers that mark the homes of the Cerberus Assembly. And further along within the city, the Library of the Cobalt Soul’s archive for the city itself, connected by teleportation circles that lead to other archives like the ones in Zadash, Port Damali, and even Vasselheim.
Deep within the Rexxentrum archive lies an elaborate training ground for the monks of the Soul. All manners of physical training apparati are available for use, normally accessible to those of the order.
It’s here in the training ground that a lone monk of the Soul finds herself in the middle of a strenuous and daunting series of exercises meant to keep her in peak physical condition. After all, it’s been only five years since she had last seen any noteworthy action and it would just be a shame to have such a smoking hot bod waste away doing paperwork all the time.
Beauregard Lionett finally manages to cap off her newest round of training, her entire body sore but surging with energy. She could always write off the inevitable fatigue as just barely pushing thirty years of age were it not for the fact that her ki keeps her looking and feeling the same as she did five years prior.
That being said, she knows that at some point she will lose track of time and be late coming home. She knows that her wife will have something planned upon her return. Her, and the adorable little munchkins they adopted a couple years ago from Fjord’s old orphanage. Now that in itself was an adventure, tearing down the Driftwood Asylum like the namesake it was, and freeing so many orphans from the abuse of the headmaster.
All things considered, Beau had her reservations about having children, let alone adopting any. It took Yasha a while to convince her, as did the words of her own mother. It turned out that following the trial of Adon Zeenoth, her mother — Clara Lionett — had finally realized how much she’d been lied to by her husband, and as a result she left his ass, taking TJ with her.
It had taken some time for Beau and Clara to reconnect, but she had given her mother a chance to prove her genuine change of heart. She gave Clara time to prove it, and she had done so. Currently, she’s also living in the same house as her daughter and wife. And TJ quickly took a shine to Yasha as well as the two newer arrivals from the asylum. They were all one big happy family.
“Excuse me, Expositor?”
Beau’s ears perk up as she is toweling off the sweat across her face. She looks in the direction of the voice and is greeted by a young acolyte in familiar vestments; they were the same baggy clothes Beau had worn when she first met the Mighty Nein six years ago.
The acolyte in question is humanoid, with brown hair cropped short and eyes as blue as her own. According to Yudala Fon, she was taken in as a “replacement” for Zeenoth following the elf’s removal from the order. Her official title was something akin to a “lore keeper”, or something like that. Someone tasked to maintain the history of Exandria so that nothing is lost to time.
Unfortunately, Beau had forgotten her name, which couldn’t be helped; she was a new addition, after all.
“‘Sup?” Beau calls out to her. The acolyte smiles a little in response. She’s kinda cute, but Beau reminds herself that she’s a married woman now. Those days are long over.
“Something was just delivered to the archive… and it’s addressed to you. I just figured you’d like to know.”
Beau frowns. She doesn’t remember asking for any delivery. Alarm bells are ringing in her head. Something about this doesn’t feel right.
Or it could just be her acting paranoid. She’s got more than her fair share of fans in the Empire nowadays. It could just be a present from one such fan.
“Thanks for the heads up, let’s go check it out.” With that, Beau drops the towel on the ground and follows the acolyte back up the stairs, pausing briefly to put her own vestments back on. The two monks ascend the stairway in silence, step by step, until they arrive in her own personal office within the library.
“Did you want me to leave you be, Expositor?” The acolyte asks Beau.
Beau just shakes her head. “Nah, it’s fine. It’s just a present, I’m sure of it. No need to worry.”
The acolyte just smiles back as Beau turns to the parcel in question, laid out on her desk. The wrapping is just your usual brownish paper bound in twine, with a singular placard tied to it. The writing on the outside of the placard clearly bears her name, “Beauregard Lionett”, with the inside unusually blank.
Those same old alarm bells are ringing again, louder than ever. But Beau just shakes it off again. It’s only a gift… right?
Still choosing to take some level of caution, Beau reaches for a small pair of scissors to cut through the twine. Once that is out of the way, she begins to unwrap the parcel, peeling back layer upon layer of wrapping until she finally sees the “gift” in question: an unassuming, nondescript book, the title unreadable to her even with her numerous known languages.
Boy, how I wish Caleb was here. He’d be able to read it, no problem.
Beau just shrugs her shoulders and begins to pick up the book. She inspects the back cover, finding nothing.
“And when did this ‘gift’ arrive?”
“About half an hour ago, according to one of the archivists. Said that it was for you and to put it in your office until I went to retrieve you.”
Beau muses on the mystery in front of her for a moment. It had been a long time since she had looked into an unusual book, though that occasion only brought about some rather… unpleasant memories of red eyes and restless dreams. Not something she would want to experience again.
She flips the book over and takes a peek behind the front cover. Inside is a small piece of parchment tucked into the folds. She pulls it free and inspects it, finding some handwriting scrawled in an unfamiliar script. Once again, she laments not having Caleb around, let alone the ability to cast something as simple as a Comprehend Languages spell.
“Hey.” Beau turns to the acolyte. “Any idea what this says?”
She hands the note to the acolyte who takes a close look at the script. After about a minute or two, her eyes shine with wonder. “Interesting. Unless I’m mistaken, this seems to be druidic script.”
“‘Druidic’?” Beau replies, feeling astonished. “No wonder I don’t know it. Apart from maybe a couple of acquaintances, I don’t really know any druids.”
Just the thought of druids makes Beau smile a little. In her travels with the Mighty Nein, she had met at least three of them.
The first was Nila, the firbolg who aided them in saving Fjord, Jester, and Yasha from the Iron Shepherds. While she wasn’t present for the actual fight, she was still present for their first meeting with Caduceus Clay, and she did succeed in saving her mate and child. On reflection, Nila was the first healthy maternal figure Beau had met prior to discovering Nott’s true origins. And just recently, Yasha had come home from seeing the Clays at the Blooming Grove and had bumped into Nila on the way back.
Although in the time that had occurred, Beau had gotten in a bit of a bind with some assholes that tried to extort her for info, only to get their asses handed to them by herself. That story was certainly one that caught Yasha off-guard, though not as much as her own that involved fighting in a pit in Shadycreek Run.
The second of the three druids was Reani from Uthodurn. She had been instrumental in the refjorging of the Star Razor, the blade that sparked Fjord’s transition from hostage to hero as a paladin in the Wildmother’s name. Not only that, but she and Beau had a bit of a… rendezvous the night before. Admittedly, for Beau, it was a moment of weakness during the time that Yasha was being used against her will, but what she had never told the Nein was that Reani also proved to be a good listener. If anything, she helped console Beau through the night… after a lot of drunken companionship.
Beau’s only regret is that so far Reani and Yasha have yet to meet, and she hopes that it can happen soon.
And the third druid… Vilya. Now that one had a story unlike the others. Originally from a tribe of druids in Tal’Dorei, apparently, she had failed a pilgrimage, ended up on Rumblecusp after losing a leg to a kraken, and then lost her memory becoming an unwilling vassal and mouthpiece to the island’s “god” Vokodo. But as is often the case when the Nein get involved, chaos reigned supreme as she was brought back to herself, Vokodo was deposed, the residents of Vo were left with conflicting memories of lives before and after the island, and just before Traveler Con occurred… Veth saw her off as she had gone back home through a tree.
Beau never got to say goodbye to Vilya, yet she had some respect for the half-elf, being a capable spiritual leader both before and after Vokodo’s fall and she was there to support the Nein when they needed her. But at least she was back home with her family.
But aside from those three, Beau has no idea as to who would send her a book.
“Is there a way to narrow down who would have sent this to me? It could literally be anyone in the world.”
The acolyte frowns a little before inspecting the script again. “Hmm… There is something more to this script. If my memory serves…” She continues to mutter as she walks out of the office.
“Hey.” Beau calls out.
Resigned, she follows the acolyte to the main research archives. The acolyte walks with purpose to a specific section of the library, and after a few minutes, she pulls out a book and sets it on a nearby table. Beau hovers over the acolyte as she thumbs through the yellowed pages, searching for whatever could be a lead.
“Aha!” The acolyte jabs her finger toward a particular page, one full of words and illustrations. “This is a relatively recent entry, but it is very relevant.”
Beau gives the acolyte a look as she takes to the page and is slowly absorbing the words written there, digesting the information one letter at a time. And then just as she’s about to turn the page, her attention drifts to an illustration of a woman with short hair, one dressed in robes and a mantle, a staff in one hand. But the most eye-catching thing about it is the circlet that adorns her head. A circlet with two antlers attached.
Antlers that remind her of something that…
“Do you happen to know someone that can cast Sending?”
The acolyte nods her head. Actually, I’m quite capable of that. Who would you like to send a message to?”
Beau doesn’t hesitate. “Veth Brenatto.” And then as the acolyte casts the spell, she dictates what she wants to be sent. “This is the Cobalt Soul with a question from Expositor Lionett. Do you remember where you first got the inspiration for those antlers you wore?”
The acolyte finishes the spell, reciting the words and ending the casting. It’s only a moment later before the reply is given, which the acolyte paraphrases as, “She said she got it from when Vilya returned home. Some girl with antlers was there. Maybe her daughter.”
That clinched it for Beau. The illustration, the words in the book, and Veth’s description. She then asks the acolyte, “One more Sending, please. This time to… Allura Vysoren.”
“And the message?”
Beau already knows immediately what to ask. “Ask her… how much do you know about the Ashari? Did one of them wear antlers? And… do they know someone named Vilya?”
#WIP Wednesday#Beauregard Lionett#critical role#post-canon fic#cr spoilers#I will do my best to figure out how to flesh this out#but yeah#it would be good for Kiki to meet one of the people who brought her mother back to her#and also for Beau to properly get to say her farewells to Vilya since she did not in 107#also did you notice who this new “lore keeper” is?#Had to be a little clever with this character

Scenario C2E43: Fight
Hooboy this is the meat of the matter, the thing I’m totally down for, absolute edge of the seat stuff. The Mighty Nein decide fuck it, this is our ship now and you’re going down, damn the consequences and cannon-ery
Wall of Fire is a good start as any, except that it paints a huge motherfucking target on Caleb’s head and he hasn’t got Mage Armor on yet (AC 11). Secondly Wall of Fire’s actual damage range outside of its physical area is 10ft from one side of the wall (presumably the side facing Avantika) giving 11 ft of fire between Avantika and the Nein. While it is opaque, there is nothing preventing enemies from taking the damage and rushing through. Interestingly it would be down to Matt’s ruling if the wood of the ship starts taking damage immediately (or if Liam cast it with some of its height below deck) with regards to setting the ship afire and enacting Fluffernutter 2.0. [An extreme proposition would be that Matt rules there are gunpowder stashes on deck and the ship immediately explodes] Finally, Wall of Fire is a concentration spell, meaning Caleb cannot buff or debuff anyone unless he breaks off on Wall of Fire. So he’s left with cantrips and blast spells like scorching ray to do each turn.
Numbers are not on the Nein’s side; the crew of a fanatic are right there and 5e rules favour quantity over quality (somewhat). While they’re individually weak, together they are a significant threat to the relatively low health pool of the Nein. With flanking, things get worse and we’re not even accounting for firearms with long range.
Thus AoE spells will be needed to clear the mob or some attempt. at coercing them to stay out of the fight. Did I mention how scary Wall of Fire would look to the average pirate? Caleb could reasonably say, I am your god now.
Other AoE spells are equally awe-inspiring visually. Hunger of Hadar is a creepy as fuck void of hentai tentacles and its caster Fjord can also reasonably claim to be the champion of Uk’atoa. Its 2d6 (+2d6 conditional) damage is a bit lacklustre, but its crowd control (difficult terrain, blind, absolute darkness) can effectively section off entire portions of the crew for long enough
Spirit guardians from the 2 clerics is a 15ft radius of 3d8 radiant damage (halved on WIS save).Although its concentration, every pirate taking that damage every turn is gonna hurt. It also halves the speed of enemies (better than difficult terrain). As a side note, Spiritual Weapon is not concentration, so Jester can swing that lollipop and focus on one big spell at the same time.
With regard to single target damage, Nott, Yasha and Beau have got that covered. Sneak attack, stunning strike, rage empowered greatsword attacks. Assuming they hit, the damage is likely to be very very delicious. Focusing on a single target tilts the odds in their favour since dead people cant kill you. Caduceus’ path of the Grave gives vulnerability on the next attack, doubling its damage
With regards to the Clerics Level 4 slots, i think Jester is best served saving hers for Dimension Door, the utility of 500ft instantaneous teleportation for 2 is too great to give up for the rest of the day. Caducues on the other hand, has Death Ward, essentially giving someone Fjord’s Relentless endurance (if falling to 0 HP, fall instead to 1 HP) potentially keeping them up long enough to kill the opposition. And even if they fall unconscious after that, Caducues maxes his heals when bringing them up.
In conclusion, after one full week of panicking, worrying, intense research and cross-wiki referencing, I’ve finally concluded that these fuck-ups are in fact going to be alright. It’s gonna be a hard fight whichever way you turn the puzzle, but I think they’ve got the tools to get themselves out of this tight pinch. All the remains is the resolution (which I’ll only get to see the first half of, since I’m travelling by train soon after the show starts im so mad)

Is it just me or is the Clue box art a round about spoiler for campaign 2? Because if you start cr2, see Molly but not Caduceus, and then the box art shows Caduceus but not Molly... it’s not too hard to deduce why that might be the case :/ I know things happen relatively early on but it’s still frustrating to me (and they could at least go the Munchkin route where even if the character is not in the main game they have the 8 on the cover to not spoil)
ya it kinda feels that way, i would like if there's at least a nod to molly in one of the cards or something. but ya, i feel like a lot of these things must be in the works for a while. my only hope is that, since we do have king/molly "back on the board" now, maybe we'll see him pop up in more little mighty nein sets like this in the future
