With Will it was sweet and slow, like maple sap in winter, steady and warm and sure as seasons. He could be shy and cautious, holding the little spark he'd felt almost their whole lives as a secret in his chest. It was easy then, to wait, even though time felt stretched like taffy as they tripped toward each new step along the way. Love slow-simmered into lust and as they grew they changed, Orym happy to look to Will, to wait, a steady presence to ground them both.

But this, it's different. Orym aches with it, hasn't stopped thinking about how he doesn't feel right every minute they're not in each others' arms. It's only been a few hours, but still he catches himself tracking Dorian on the periphery, talking to Widogast, gaze flicking away when theirs meet across the chamber. Orym's heart is trying to claw its way up his ribcage and out of his throat. There are so many things he can't think about, should think about, but all he wants is to stay close. To touch, to chase, and gods, was this what it was like for Will? His hands are shaking as he finally reaches out to drag Dorian away, to try to put those buzzing thoughts to rest but then they're kissing and "Oh, I want" and if there is any justice in this universe Ludinus will just implode into dust and Orym can finally find out if his heart will ever stop racing or if this is just what it will be like.

He can't think about anything beyond the now. Can't start to think about the wishes and what-ifs. Dorian is kissing him and this is everything he wanted and for now, for once, Orym is holding on to it.

wait can we also talk about orym???? whose home was a person he lost in the blink of an eye, who he's been mourning for nearly 10 years... orym, who is gentle and strong, yes, but also hurt and shy, reaching out to the second love of his life, pulling him in and kissing him??? asking if they can build something together??? choosing to be happy???

can we talk about dorian though???? can we talk about how he left home, running away from his birthright and responsibility and his name, and wandered, not having a home for so long??? but it's okay because he has his brother, but no he loses what's left of his family but now!!!!! now it's possible!!! a home is a daydream but also a halfling with a gentle strong heart that he can touch and kiss!!!! and he sees an example of the life he wants in the wizards... he can have a home and a family of his very own!!!! he can have it all, it's all within reach!!!
