-Am I LGBTQ+ friendly? HELL YEAH 🏳️‍🌈⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ I am an ally and I don’t care if you’re bisexual, pan, lesbian, gay or whatever! Just be yourself and don’t give a shit abt what anyone else says!

-Can minors interact with me? That really depends on the age. I am an adult and still a stranger here so I think I really prefer if ppl around 16+ can talk to me. I’m just kinda uncomfortable with the fact that there are 13-14 year olds on here and I’m like 10 years over those ages. If you are under 16 and wanna be my friend, I guess I’m okay with that but please just remember that I am an adult and just please be careful :) I am a nice person though!

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Other than the ✨️bisexuality✨️, I really love how sincere she is! Unlike most of the people in the show, Xu Yu doesn't really have a mask- you always know exactly how she's feeling and what she's thinking at any time. It doesn't serve her well in the palace- especially the harem- because it means she's easy to manipulate, but it makes me really like her!

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Mulan! 100% Mulan. But have Huna play the role of Li Shang 🏳️‍🌈 (maybe it's a Monstrous Regiment kind of situation? Something to think about later)

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

This is a bit of a specific one, but I think Xu Yu's mum died either giving birth to her or when she was very small. We see that the rest of the family is very close-knit and cares for each other deeply, but Madam Xu is never mentioned At All. If it wasn't for basic biology, I'd think General Xu just straight up spawned his kids lmao

It would explain why she's so terrible at being a noblewoman (no role models to teach her, since couldn't learn from her dead mother) and why her father and brothers were quite so willing to dote on her and teach her martial arts (because who else could she spend time with?)

And it gives her a fun narrative parallel to Jinyun! They each had what the other lacked, Xu Yu growing up with no mother and Xiao Jinyun growing up with no father, but now they can give their children the best of both :]

24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

I think he's a lot like Nie Huaisang from Mo Dao Zu Shi! On a surface level they're both silly younger brothers with fans, who don't want to be responsible and are usually shipped the purple guy. And Then They Flip and you realise they're actually the cleverest bitches around, driven by loyalty to their older brothers, and You've Been Played.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

First impression: Aw, cute comic relief! 😊

Jupiter by Sleeping At Last! I know it's kind of cheating to give the astrologer a planet song, but it does fit him.

Hmm... it's complicated! I think I could at first, but Luo Hanying would get more and more sick of my strange mannerisms and get more and more passive-aggressive about it, and it'd end up with us both being mutually miserable in the space of about a year XD

The U.S. Senate just passed the Respect for Marriage Act which federally protects same-sex and interracial relationships!!

It took way longer than it should have but federal law now recognizes that everyone, no matter who they love, is entitled to respect and equal treatment. Love is love and that sentiment will now be codified into law! 🏳️‍🌈🎉⚧🎊

Now, I’ve seen some of the comments in response to this announcement: “Okay, so what? LGBTQ+ and interracial couples have been able to be married before though, why is this so important?”

With SCOTUS overturning decisions such as Roe v. Wade in recent years, it is clear that established precedent is not enough to secure what seem like basic rights.

(Not to mention it’s importance since interracial and LGBTQ+ relationships have really only been accepted within recent history but still face extreme hate and discrimination. That’s another whole tangent though.)

Essentially, this act is important because it serves as a preventive measure against other attacks on peoples’ rights or their access to fair and equal treatment.

The act itself passed with 61 to 36 votes, only 12 Republicans were for the act at all. Even Mitch McConnell, who is in an interracial marriage himself, voted against the bill.

Below are the 37 Senators that voted against the fair treatment and equal access for those in interracial and/or LGBTQ+ marriages/relationships. Note the names of the people who want to strip away freedoms for those who don’t align with “traditional” values.

I’m worried some studio exec will see Goncharov trending, get the wrong idea, and actually try to make a movie to “appeal” to us…

Now if that does happen, I believe it’s our duty to pretend like it was never a liked/popular thing and to absolutely flame whatever product comes of it.

On the other hand, I think it’d be hilarious to get tumblr an academy award for a completely fake film, I mean, it is critically acclaimed, it should recognized as such.

I am loving this.

I work with kids - particularly young ones (age range 6 months to 12 years) - and knowing that they are growing up in a world where gay media is becoming more and more normal, where the generations are becoming less homophobic (yes I know there'll always be homophobic people - also, why is it a phobia? Like if people have a phobia, they usually gtfo as fast as they can. With homophobic people, they usually get close for intimidation purposes). These kids will have people on their screens and in real life that they can look up to and discover an identity that's right for them.

I never had that. I'm only 22, going on 23, but I didnt have that. There were no mainstream shows or movies that showed queer people. Queerest shows I knew of were like Queer as Folk or Merlin. I had to fumble around in the dark before finding the light that is my identity(s) because I didn't have these things to tell me about one sexuality or another. I didnt have people who were like me coming out of the closet. Not until I was like 17 and already found my sexuality and gender identity.

I'm so happy for the generations to come. Hopefully everyone one day will understand that love is love. 🏳️‍🌈

Just thinking about how like, when I was a teenager, the gayest show we had was Merlin, which was somehow super gay and also incredibly homophobic.

But now y’all teens have your pick of queer characters. Soft gay teenagers? Check. Gay royalty? Check. Gay pirates? Check. Gay vampires? Check. Gay angels and demons? Check.

It’s a damn LGBT smorgasbord out there.

I loved Luca so much but one thing I don’t see anyone talking about is the fact that Giulia is the first Disney girl I’ve seen who has a big, hooked nose and isn’t an antagonist!!! I wish my younger self who was self conscious about her big nose could have seen that and I hope there will be much more good-aligned female characters with big noses in the future because I never want to see another little girl think she’s ugly because she doesn’t have a button nose

Generally agree. They give movie stars "EP" titles all the time. Sometimes it's just in name only/limited, since it takes a lot of work to be an actual EP for the whole show.

None of those writing credits are for S2, so we don't know which writers wrote what yet BUT, she more than likely won't be credited as a writer because that's a whole different skillset.

I do think she has a lot to learn and prove, but don't know how fast that can come for her, since she's extremely impatient. As I might've mentioned before, her problem goes beyond her baby face to her height and her voice. She sounds like a teenager in Finestkind and everything else she does. I don't know if that can be helped since she's so tiny and her voice matches her look; she might be 30 by the time her voice changes (if it does at all...it does for a lot of people, but for us short kings/queens it's different, which is why everything small sounds like a goddamn Smurf). There aren't a lot of leading men in Hollywood she could be paired up with and not look like a Little Person 💀 or their little sister, and I'd never wish Tom Cruise on her. Tom Holland, maybe. But that's it.

As for the Wishful Wenclairs, I've found that they're mostly overgrown, idealistic, child-minded kids. I used to be one of those when it came to LGBTQ+. I thought I knew everything, but then I came to San Francisco at 23 and hung out with real 🏳️‍🌈 and 🏳️‍⚧️ people. Turns out, I did not know every goddamn thing about the community (I knew some because I was a big reader, but operating within an active community with your peers is a totally different thing that needs to be experienced) and the propensity to put a label on every goddamn thing was not in my DNA; Gen X eschewed labels.

They'll learn, but by then, they'll just be enraged that Wenclair didn't happen on screen after being baited so hard by Mejia, and that I fucking told them (we all did) that they were being baited. Jenna Ortega must have a magic magnetic 🧲 pussy for these people to become incapable of self-control or rationality.

For everyone thinking she's pulling the puppet strings as EP and as a writer, I think you're going to be disappointed by the reality of the situation.

I think having any EP credit is a great accomplishment and she should be proud of herself.

I just don't think people should have gotten their hopes up that she's all but in charge and championing a specific ship.

She's a huge talent and a star, but she's still relativity new to the business. I think it's smart to get her hands on the pie, but she still has a lot to learn and to prove beyond being a child star.
