finished watching the hobbit for the first time, and let me tell you that i was not ready for all that tragedy. they all deserved better, i was rooting for thorin and bilbo to have a happy ending and get married.. BECAUSE YOU CANNOT TELL ME THAT GIVING HIM THE MITHRIL WAS NOT A PROPOSAL ;-;

It blows my mind that by giving the mithril shirt to Bilbo, Thorin indirectly saved Frodo and thus prevented the Ring-bearer from dying and the Quest from failing. The world was ultimately saved because the exiled King Under the Mountain fell in love with a hobbit.

Bilbo 'Girlboss' Baggins. he can do it all. acquire a magic and totally not evil ring. make riddles on the spot. kill a bunch giant spiders. save thirteen dwarves on multiple occasions. talked to a dragon and found it's weakness. earned the respect of the elf king and bard the bowmen by giving away the arkenstone. and he did this all while being 50 years old

Some thoughts from my rewatch of RoP 1x08
- Elrond and Galadriel reuniting is a beautiful moment
- Sauron, you leave Celebrimbor alone (I’m not ready for their arc next season)
Tumblr media
- I love how proud Eärien seems of herself that she was one of the apprentices chosen to submit a design for the king’s tomb
- I need Galadriel’s dress from this episode
Tumblr media
- going back to the point I made before, I can’t tell you how far my heart still drops when Celebrimbor says “not of the flesh but over flesh”
- Elrond throwing the “hope is never mere” line back at Gil-galad is one of my favourite moments in this episode
Tumblr media
- I will forever love how steadfast Nori is in her opinion that the Stranger is in Middle Earth to help
- Sadoc 😭😭 at least he’s with his wife again
- I don’t think we talk about Valandil enough. He lost so much in the last episode I honestly can’t even comprehend how much grief he must be carrying. Not to mention the survivor’s guilt as well
Tumblr media
- Elendil and Miriel opening up to each other means so much to me. I need them to be canon next season
- the saturation going down as Sauron is getting into Galadriel’s mind is genius
- I had no thoughts during the rest of that scene. I’m just as mesmerised by it as I was the first time
- Nori leaving. I’m sobbing 😭😭
Tumblr media
- So, we’re all pretty much agreed that the Stranger is Gandalf, right?
- I love that you can kind of see the eye of Sauron in the molten gold and silver when the mithril goes in
Tumblr media
Season 2 tomorrow!! Omg I can’t believe we can finally say that!! 😆💗

I know this is going to be controversial but every time i see another heated debate over the rings and who made them and how sauron didnt make the three..:
Silmarillion is meant to be understood as a set of legends and myths passed along by elves. Some of them are gonna be inaccurate or wholy made up especially if there is reason for it
During LOTR it is made very clear, that no, the three were not untouched by Sauron - they will be under his influence when he has the one and they lose power with his fall as all other works of his hand and power on middle earth - that last part is most incriminating evidence
Both Galadriel and Elrond are very cagey about these rings in LOTR; Elrond says that the intention behind their creation was different so they work differently than the rest
So yes, we can argue/interpret differently the way these events played out because of everything that happened and was said that is conflicting with the pure "they were made by Celebrimbor only and Sauron had nothing to do with it" narrative - especially when youre repeatedly shown the elves have a reason to want to believe that and spread that belief

SAURON REBUILT
How was Sauron rebuilt by the end of the first season?
Always after a defeat and a respite, the Shadow takes another shape and grows again. [...] His plans are far from ripe, I think, but they are ripening. [...] The Enemy still lacks one thing to give him strength and knowledge to beat down all resistance, break the last defences, and cover all the lands in a second darkness. He lacks the One Ring. — Gandalf, The Lord of the Rings (FOTR): The Shadow of the Past
This is a pattern by which we may be able to answer that question for Sauron in the Second Age. There was a defeat, there was a respite, he took another shape and grew again. He had plans that were not yet ripe, but were ripening nonetheless.
SAURON: "I've got my own plans, Elf."
Tumblr media
(1x02)
According to the pattern, he lacked something that would give him strength and knowledge to beat down all resistance. He made the One Ring with his own power. What would have given him necessary strength and knowledge before the One Ring?

So, my family is rewatching Rings of Power, and since I’m the one in the family that read The Silmarillion (like a masochist), I’m the one who keeps getting asked all the questions.

I've watched the first few (like 5...) episodes of The Rings of Power and though I have dislikes related to world-building and visuals and the use of Tolkien's work and characterisation and clichés... what I can't get over is the pacing. Because wtaf. How did writers hope to have anyone interested in this series when they spend half a season setting up the exposition/inciting incidents of like 6 different storylines???? And none of these storylines have reached any point of movement yet???? There are so many characters and world-related facts to remember but no defined goal or conflict to make anyone actually want to keep watching?????? Hello plot????

Really liking the second TROP game but it is hard to beat annatar playing as Galadriel without buffing Resistance right before the shape shifting starts otherwise she'll take a ton of damage over time. And even the death screen is him trying to manipulate you? Apparently there's a 1/9 chance you see this one which is cool i suppose
