[ cw: death mention / strangulation mention / stabbing mention / blood mention / self-sacrifice / codependency mention in tags / ]
I think a lot about how common it is for Raph to be the one to have direct focus put on him when Leo gets into all his near death experiences.
Like, when Leo is thrown off a building, itâs Raph whoâs right there jumping after him, not even thinking about the consequences to himself when he does. When Leo almost gets skewered by the Krang, Raphâs right there to take the blow and send Leo to safety without a second thought. When Leoâs being strangled to near death, itâs a Krangified Raph doing the job, doing exactly what Raph would never, ever want to do. When Leo is telling Casey Jr to close the portal, itâs Raph who tries desperately to convince Leo otherwise.
Likewise, Leo is consistently very single minded when Raph gets forcibly separated from them. Both when in the sewers and by the Krang, Leo is dead set on finding Raph first and foremost.
I also think itâs interesting that during each of Leoâs near death experiences, the lightheartedness of his words during them goes directly hand in hand with both how close Raph is to him physically and how much danger Raph is also in in that moment. From a literal âI told you soâ as Leoâs falling away from Raph to a soft joke about how âhero movesâ are Raphâs style - both of these are on the more morbidly carefree side and both of these notably take Leo farther away from Raph and, in turn, have Raph not in immediate danger.
On the other side of things is the apology from Leo, heedless of the danger he himself is in as he seriously and genuinely speaks to a Krangified Raph face to face. Then thereâs Leoâs freezing and desperation as Raph takes a hit meant for him and sends just Leo to safety, leaving Raph himself behind. Both of these involve much closer proximity and Raph being directly harmed - these together make Leo much more vulnerable in his words and actions, something not even the threat of death can make him.
These two care about each other so much, and theyâre way too much alike for their own good.
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#rottmnt raph#rise raph#rottmnt leo#rise leo#honorable mention to the time Leo desperately tried throwing himself into harmâs way to get to Karai#and Raph is the one who has to pull him back#I also think that itâs interesting how both of them go about self sacrifice#because wow they both have problems with it#Raphâs tends to be immediate reactions not even thinking as he throws himself over his bros#Leoâs are often shown to be âfor the greater goodâ (said greater good often being his family)#once again I am saying that post movie these two would likely have codependency issues#considering Raphâs already present acute seperation anxiety and Leoâs immediate memory of Raph standing over him bleeding#another thing to mention is how Future Leoâs actual death still falls into the whole âmorbidly lighthearted wordsâ category#I also wanna point out that in Many Unhappy Returns the trust that Leo wants so much does NOT come from Splinter but from RAPH#side note but in regard to the fighting that Raph and Leo were up to during the time between the shredder and the krang#I think itâs interesting that itâs NOT depicted as screaming matches - very blatantly not this actually#also also! I totally love how the movie parallels Oroku Saki and Karai with Raph and Leo respectively#there are so many parallels in general in this show+movie it makes me froth at the mouth#and because it breaks my heart - the beginning of the movie had Raph getting angry at Leo and lashing out at him#the end of the movie has the Krang very very angry at Leo and lashing out at him#both of these times has Leo âruining a mission soâŚbad parallels#in the movie as well thereâs a Krangified Raph who beats Leo senseless#so I have to wonder if Raph and Leo justâŚcanât roughhouse anymore#else Leo would flinch or Raph would be so scared to accidentally hurt Leo like he was already used to do before#then suddenly their usual dynamic of Raph never having to be softer with Leo is thrown on its head#worse is if theyâre so terrified of this dynamic leaving that they power through their own sufferings to maintain it

ive been replaying kh1 (going thru the whole series on steam since i never got the chance to play all the games) and i was struck by something a bit odd. i have been dyinggg to talk about it
it's about kairi and her past.
i don't think she's a replica or construct necessarily
but in kh2 there's a parallel drawn between her and sally in halloween town; and the same i think could be true in kh1.
sally is a Frankenstein monster/doll made by the doctor. the entire plot of Halloween town centers around the need for the dr to make a "heart" which requires memories from Sally (the scene of her picking the forget me nots looks a lot like kairi holding a flower for aqua too)
sora takes interest in the project to restore a heart to the heartless too because of his desire to restore Kairi's heart.
i havent really come up with a coherent thought about what this means.
but given that we know kairi was experimented on in a way that involved her heart, it just seems suspicious that this parallel was made twice to her and a doll that was stitched together and animated by a mad scientist.
shes also compared to chirithy in kh3, which from my understanding were created by MoM for keyblade weilders; and to Pooh, who is a toy/story book character that came to life
given too that Kairi already has a weird thing going on with her heart, it just seems possible that theres something..more to it that i have yet to piece together. and its driving me crazy
NO, WAIT⌠ANON YOUâRE COOKING. Idk what it all means either, but those parallels are so good and so true. Cause there definitely is something artificial about Kairiâs heart, even if just partially. It was experimented on, like you said, and it looks completely different than the organic hearts we see, and I suspect thatâs why weâve never seen Kairiâs heart station. Because itâs (at least partially) artificial. It would look totally different than all the other heart stations and would probably give away whatâs going on.
#IDK WHAT IT MEANS BUT AUGHâŚ.. KAIRI IS SO INTERESTING. OR SHE COULD BE#kingdom hearts#thereâs also parallels between her and subject x⌠which is another mystery#but we know she was experimented on by xehanort and co#and isa and lea were trying to save her#ugh it would be so cool if kairi takes over as protag in reality/the disney fairytale universe#i do not expect to really see her at all in kh4. but it would be fun to get one of those in between games that shows whatâs happening on#that side while sora and riku are running around in unreality/quadratum#i would love to get a game where you can play as kairi and she goes on an actual mission or something#with some other characters like ven and uh well roxas and xion just want to be schoolkids i think#and idk what namine wants to do. so maybe lea? the three wielders in training (that we know of)#but so that way we can find out more about kairi and the lore sheâs connected to and get to know her a little better#20 years and we still hardly know anything about being a princess of heartâŚ. rip

god tywin lannister deserved worse
just remembering elias death and i wanna puke and the way tywin talks about elia and what happened is so damn gross
but rip tommen and myrcella we all know whatâs about to happen in the next book :/
the cycle of violence just keeps spinning and damn you tywin for beginning it
(i got a bit crazy in the tags đ)
#rest in peace elia and rhaenys#iâm one of those crazy ppl who thinks jaqen hâghar is aegon #literally lost the teeny tiny amount of credibility i had#anyways i think doranâs in on it and i think rhaegar switched out asharas child for aegon paralleling the baby swap jon does#the pact made in braavos about viserys and dany marriages is a half truth half lie#and arianne being sent to faegon is simply doran testing his heir. if she messes up then whoeverâs spying for doran will correct her#gerold dayne knows too much thatâs why doran thinks heâs too dangerous#but this would make the dornish plot sooooo much more interesting and would show that no doran hasnât been doing nothing#it would also automatically make the daynes more important#jaqen (aegon) was in kings landing to kill robert but got caught by varys. syrio was sent to find him. ned cleared out the black cells tho#saving aegon in the process. fun how weâre actually introduced to this character through lyanna starks mini me arya#aegon was able to kill robert with a boar tho so mission accomplished.#now heâs in old town trying to hatch his dragon egg. the stone beast taking flight in danys vision is aegon being symbolically depictedâŚ#..as a spinx#iâm crazy delusional. but ppl who think faegon is actually aegon are even more delusional than me#plus the real aegon being alive fulfills the suns son part of quaithes warnings#i like this theory bc it makes the dorne plot more interesting and it explains whatever is going on with jaqen hâghar cause he is sus#yes yes i know iâm delusional đ i just think itâd be a very interesting twist#kinda hoping no one sees this post at this point bc i know no one will take this theory well lol#i do think this theory can be supported by the text tho#and cerseis throw away line about ned stealing asharas baby would suddenly become peak foreshadowing#barristan comparign dany to ashara would also be peak foreshadowing bc ashara would take the place of gilly in this parallel and she was dis#dishonored by someone at harrenhall. likely aerys and then she turned to a stark probably brandon for comfort#tbh i think it was ashara who lied to brandon about what happened to lyanna. perhaps she was trying to mess with brandonâs wedding and#was trying to get back at rhaegar for humiliating elia at the tourney. i highly doubt it was baelish who lied to brandon cause brandon#has little reason to believe him and no reason to trust him. ashara tho? arthur daynes sister and elias lady in waiting? also his lover?#anyways varys the spider potentially stealing aegon away (if he did take a child it was the false aegon) is there to parallel the others#who ride ice spiders taking crasters sons. tbh i think it was aegon who decided he wanted to train as a faceless man so he could get revenge#on his own terms. and the sea lord of braavos at the time was in on it and helped aegon with his plans#the unveiling coming up is going to be a lot more important than arya just reclaiming her identity. yes im delusional lmao. rant over

I've been totally fixated on the fact that gwen stays with hobie when she's not on spider-team missions so here's some fun notes
gwen says that hobie lets her crash in his universe- not "house" or "place" or "apartment", because hobie is homeless
she wears his chucks (how is she fitting into his shoes?) which is funny because hobie's original spider-punk costume included him wearing chucks, but in the movie he only wears boots
in the comics, the gwen stacy of earth-138 was, in hobie's words, "the greatest artist of [their] generation" who died a punk-rock legend, and hobie was/is a big fan of hers. gwen thinks his universe is cool and thinks it's extra cool that she's famous there, so his universe is probably something of a comfort place for her
gwen is apparently in his band (possibly his friend group which he calls the spider-band despite the fact that they're not actually a band and the others are not spideys), though gwen once rejected hobie's proposal of making an album together because his singing voice is awful (still, this was after they saved the world by playing punk rock together)
also, it's interesting to read "coming out as a superhero" as a queer allegory and it works in this situation as it parallels queer kids being kicked out of their homophobic homes and staying with friends in the aftermath
anyways. support the gwen and hobie besties agenda <3
#i'm so obsessed with them#still advocating for hobie brown being more of a loser in the next movie#he was only cool in front of miles but he's a loser (affectionate) fr#hobie brown#spider punk#gwen stacy#spider woman#spider gwen#ghost spider#marvel comics#marvel#into the spider verse#across the spiderverse#atsv#itsv#sony spiderverse#spiderverse#atsv spoilers#across the spider verse spoilers#spider man#btw thank u to sam for exchanging atsv thoughts w me :>

I fell in love with my own idea, so surprise! More baby time! >:3
Thinking about my Littlest Wayne au where each of your family members play games with you in different ways:
Dick is 1000000000% IN when you wanna play School or have Tea Parties or play Doctor. He is your student. He is your fellow gossip queen. He is your patient. He's whatever you need him to be and he plays his roles flawlessly. Tell him all the drama while you shop at his grocery store and pretend to paint his nails five minutes later, after which he has a crisis because you diagnosed him with Terminal Cooties. He's fretting over who gets what in the will but also he's the gardener, so he's gotta make his own funeral bouquet when the illness finally takes its toll. How could you do this to him, doc?
Damian will do the practical things with you. He won't play Pretend but he will color with you ("I'm helping them develop fine motor control."), play with Lincoln Logs with you ("It's never too early to take an interest in architecture."), and do puzzles with you ("See, this is an Edge piece. You can tell because one side is flat and doesn't link to other pieces.").
Jason and Tim are down for whatever, but they mostly just supervise you if you decide to play with your toys alone. You go to them if you want some Parallel Playtime. They're nice and calming while still keeping you company.
Bruce routinely decides you've gotten a little too chatty with the fake, other person on the line and gently takes the toy phone from your hands whenever you have it out.
"They're two years old, you son of a bitch," he growls into the plastic receiver, using the Batman voice and everything. Dick wheezes, Damian shakes his head, Jay and Tim are smirking, and you're jumping up and down, making grabby hands for your toy back. "I don't know who you are, but if you ever call here again, I will find you and I will kill you."
(This is his Favorite Bit. You're sick of it.)
Alfred disguises your playtimes with him as just helping with chores. He gives you child-sized brooms and plastic cutting boards and a mini duster, and sends you on missions to battle all the dust bunnies in the nooks and crannies he can't reach, or just gives you easy kitchen tasks like mashing potatoes or licking cookie batter off of the spoon. You're his favorite little helper.

Once again trying to put into perspective how downright fucking horrifying the situation Solas was in when he woke up. And why Hushed Whispers IS SO IMPORTANT in making us understand.
I am rehashing old discourse. But.
The Inquisitor and Dorian are transported immediately to the future. A future when Alexius got what he wanted, and Corypheus successfully took his position on the empty throne of the Gods.
Immediately the missions becomes about FIXING the problem so we can return to our world. And this mindset the Inquisitor and Dorian have kinda...numbs them to the severity of what happened. This is just what could happen, unless Dorian and Inky get back. The horrors aren't so horrible because it can be undone.
And Leliana calls them out on it. "I suffered. The whole world suffered. It was real," and she's right.
It isn't that this is what COULD happen. This DID happen. That world was just as real as any other. People died. People were tortured, and they suffered. That suffering was REAL. To ignore it... is bad. And would also make the scale of what Thedas can go through should Inky fail to stop corypheus less apparent.
The horror of waking up to a world you once knew be completely destroyed. Remade. Is exactly what Solas endured when he woke up.
His initial inability to see thedas as real is because he is laser focused on fixing it. Just like Dorian and Inky were. Because how can it be? It's too horrible. The fade is separate from reality. Spirits are left behind. Elves are still subject to oppression. Their history lost to them with only the repurposed fragments of propaganda left over.
Of course. The difference is that Dorian and Inky can undo what happened. (Whether that future still endures is another conversation) and Solas's goals would (in theory) commence just as much suffering and wouldn't actually bring back what was.
But I think Hushed Whispers as device to understand Solas better is so interesting. They're parallels.

The Nakamoto household - facts & theories masterpost

Table of contents:
the hierarchy & general situation
The parents
The Maizuru situation
The siblings
The other retainers
Izutsumi
Toshiro
Conclusion
I also made tldr summary charts here. This post is about collecting facts about the setting and characters, but itâs gonna be a lot of analysis on what it means through the lens of Toshiro as well, his relationship and place in everything etc etc. They have entangled drama the scale of Daltian Clan. Things are so interwoven itâs hard to keep topics neatly in their own section, because of this pictures may be relevant at several point of this but I mostly wonât be putting them in twice, you might have to do some scrolling up while reading if you want the visual proof to accompany statements. Unlike with Chilchuckâs family thereâs less ambiguousness and more intricate details and implications so itâs less theorizing & headcanoning and more stringing together all the crumbs canon gave us. I also dig into some cultural parallels, especially since characters from Wa are the most culturally coded in the series. Also disclaimer that Iâll be calling Shuro Toshiro through this whole thing because thatâs his actual name & Shuro isnât even a nickname heâs shown to like, for accuracyâs sake. The servant girls have real names but are always called by their code names so Iâll call them as such, except for Izutsumi who was named Asebi which I wonât be using.
The general situation
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3b8e80c7229a1d32af33aa81cc0a901d/3bec17bc3c960099-75/s540x810/72f463f94acb850357ac7f941b8961d10d171599.webp)
To start off, whatâs the situation in canon? All three kids of the head of the house, the three sons (Toshiro and his two younger brothers), are sent out on a vague mission to find something interesting for his father to pick the heir. Each son is thus on their own journey, out with their own group of retainers for an unsure length of time, during canon itâs been 2 years that Toshiro left the house for this mission, and they seemingly all drifted towards dungeons. Itâs important to remember that this state of things is the exception and not the rule, and before this the sons lived at home and had different uses of their time, and the retainers had other jobs than care after them. See the next paragraph.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/81871931cdcae2eb5714ed476f714f82/3bec17bc3c960099-89/s540x810/4dac0a0e561a59603b34098eb146a008bd523313.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5c40466dfa90e39e6212143b92015fc1/3bec17bc3c960099-ff/s540x810/1af47c32a3b2b39abe2c6acd227d2785529815a6.jpg)
The household offers ninja services, no exaggeration or misuse of the term, mostly spyint but also "covert maneuvers" which could include anything including assassination of people high up. Thatâs the job of their servants/retainers at least, the heads themselves are more like managers probably, possibly samurais themselves though especially since as we see with the heirs (besides the samurai armor) they also got trained in fighting as their skills showcase. I need to dig into the history of samurais more before I can draw the parallel confidently though. The Nakamoto household is noble/wealthy, distinguished as the Adventurerâs Bible puts it, but it works for and puts its service at use for "their local lord". It buys servants, but also has families who have served it for generations like with Hien. The comic shows that there arenât only women servants, itâs just the ones we see all happen to be because Toshiroâs retainers are only a small team of all of Nakamotoâs servants.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8345b9cc30c928ce5d80fcf489a7744a/3bec17bc3c960099-ad/s540x810/2d1a7255b5fb3a9c477482c0668d56b55d2850d9.webp)
Above, in a page showcasing charactersâ relationships with their party leader: çśčŚŞăŽé¨ä¸ăĺăăŚăăçść
ăŞăŽă§ă čˇé˘ăăăăDoubtlessly there must be a translation of this already somewhere but Iâm lazy and impatient so I turned to machine translation instead, this translates into: "Since he is borrowing his father's subordinates, there is a distance between him and them". Calling the servants retainers is what most of the fandom does and itâs accurate so Iâll be calling them this.
Hien and Toshiro were childhood friends which means the servants do have some degree of contact not even just together but with the heirs too, or maybe just specifically Hien, since both their parents were ninjas for the Nakamotos she ended up getting raised there and they let her play with him as an exception? They did end up drifting away as adults as their relationship got more professional, so itâs possible. The servants eat and sleep in shared spaces, separate from the masters, though Maizuru has her own bedroom, if the room configuration at the in is to be believed + itâd make sense since sheâs governess/head servant. Iâm hesitant wether to say itâs implied that this group of 4 retainers was always a bit of a team or it wasnât and got formed for Toshiro specifically. We know that Benichidori had little contact with Toshiro before they were sent out together for example, but we do see all three girls with Izutsumi in Inutadeâs extra when they were younger, and them eating in the same japanese styled room etc. The inn they stay at on The Island is western styled though they do have futons rather than beds (thereâs only one bed in their shared room and Hien has it because of her rank).
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c0f8e36465c75a3b57368c92bba5209a/3bec17bc3c960099-aa/s400x600/97152e942928f11bcbe6adeda3df900354fdc49c.jpg)
From Izutsumiâs Adventurerâs Bible profile: "Maizuru, who was also Shuro's governess, is the one thing Izutsumi fears. After Izutsumi was taken in by the Nakamoto family, Maizuru forced her through a harsh training regimen of speech, common sense, and fighting skills. Since Izutsumi refused to listen to her, Maizuru set a curse on her that would activate if Maizuru didn't touch her within a set time frame: "Ninja Art: Babysitter." "
Maizuru, called a governess, is the one training the girls, at least some of them, we know for a fact she was the one to train Izutsumi for example, and in general sheâs the one in charge of the ninja girls we see. She was a ninja herself but retired from frontline missions, but has a central role managing the servants instead. Inutade for example is strong but not stealthy, and itâs said that itâs Maizuruâs job to choose how to train her and what role to give her in consequence. Her training includes manners but fighting as well, notably kunais and martial arts. Hien is shown to use bombs and Benichidori is implied to be good at disguises, Inutade uses a bold weapon like a club but itâs implied with "ogres and clubs just go together" and Maizuru not knowing where to put her to use that itâs uncommon for Nakamoto servants to use those. Their board game artworks also show their specialties neatly. When brought into the household, the servants are given new names and their whole lives become devotion to the house and their duties. The names might be intended to act as code names due to them being ninjas? Itâs implied that they never use their non-code names anymore once they start serving the household. Maizuruâs training also contains language and "common sense"⌠Critical thinking? As well as implied etiquette. This isnât surprising, as she was the one put in charge of raising not only Toshiro but his brothers as well.
Oh yes I want to mention that all the retainersâ "first deaths" are in the dungeon during canon, considering our main cast weâre used to death being permissible because dungeons make resurrections possible, but itâs relevant to remember that these people never died before. Never. These girls are professionals, ninjas with a sometimes very dangerous job. Messing up means death, permanently.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cffe2ffb608fe244081a92db6a86888b/3bec17bc3c960099-bb/s400x600/b0b82447d5ba703c24d818126047f33184641a9f.jpg)
From what we see and with who we see, the hierarchy is:
Father (head of house, his word goes)
Mother (has status which puts her wishes above othersâ and give her some control over the house, itâs unsure how much though, but hierarchy wise sheâs very much above the rest but below the father)
Maizuru (governess, in charge of (at least some) servants and raising Toshiro. Two dots)
Hien (leader of their squad, trained servant from a family devoted to the Nakamotos. Two dots)
Benichidori (trained bought servant. Two dots)
Inutade and Izutsumi (bought servants. Power wise from their rank itâs unsure just how much the difference between Inutade (who has one dot), Izutsumi (who has none) and Benichidori (who has two) is, since Hien is team leader between the four servants at least thatâs measurable. Inutade gets some janitor duties, and Izutsumi has a curse put on her so she doesnât run away I suppose. Power wise itâs unsure, but socially/role wise Inutade and especially Asebi are treated worse.)
I didnât add the sons because Iâm talking more generally about the power structure and itâd depend on each sibling, like Toshiroâs wants and directives during canon trump Maizuruâs, but Maizuru is also his nanny and manages the girls so she has a lot of importance and sway even on the final decisions.
The parents
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bfe35e9dbaa01304723149a316158c8f/3bec17bc3c960099-3f/s540x810/36ffb49ef4ed9e64150e1dc1c176cd3ddac2378a.jpg)
I am so pissed I forgot that we know Toshiroâs fatherâs name, Toshitsugu, from these panels showing the progression of the family tree. I am so pissed Iâm adding this halfway into writing this whole thing, I am not gonna go back and replace every "the father" by his name atm.
The father is the part of this puzzle most important yet most shrouded in mystery, or rather a lack of details. What we do know paints a pretty full and vivid portrait: impulsive and cares mainly about his own entertainment. Maizuru calls him a fool, his sons are exasperated and go "This again?" when he summons them saying that theyâre boring/dull, everyone knows heâs having an affair and he often has undignified demeanor, but what he says goes so yes Maizuru will take Izutsumi under her wing, yes the sons will be going out right away into the world to find you the 8th world wonder, yes whatever you want lord. He seems to have little care for how his action affects others, like crashing into Maizuruâs room at night and asking she take care of a catgirl, or sending out his sons suddenly with kicks to the butts. He does what he wants hen he wants and others have to comply.
Like we see with Izutsumi and Inutade, he tends to take a liking to slaves here and there and buy them on the spot, usually at entertainment places, like sumo wrestling matches for Inutade and a freakshow for Izutsumi. The Adventurerâs Bible states him acquiring Inutade as "By coincidence, Shuro's father came to see her first match; he liked her and bought her for the Nakamoto family." and Izutsumi as "She was on display as a "cat-girl" in a sideshow when Shuro's father took an interest in her and bought her." In Maizuruâs extra, he calls Izutsumi a "souvenir" he got for her, and heâs drunk so it could well be assumed that buying Izutsumi was a drunken whim, and that he mitht be alcoholic. You canât really say that he picks them out because he sees potential in them to be a ninja or would be useful, since with Izutsumi she had no fighting training and Inutade doesnât fit the skills they seek like stealth and she has trouble fitting in. You could assign noble goals to him like maybe wanting to help or relating to the misfits, but I think with what we see of him itâs more likely that he likes to pick up "oddities", like a catgirl at a freakshow or an ogre, especially since one of the only things we know of him is he wants his sons to bring back interesting trophies from their travels. Toshiro, about his father buying Inutade, says: "People in power desire ogre as servants, and ogres are chosen as opponents in tests of strengths or military exploits. My father bought her for similar reasons."
Also from this we can infer that he goes out to events often, like circus and sumo wrestling, again mostly for entertainment from what we see. I like to think itâs implied that he used to travell maybe still does, due to his own liking for it as a test and because he visits various places like the sideshow, plus his forearm scars in Toshiroâs extra⌠But him being a samurai in service of a lord could definitely explain that.
This all paints an interesting picture doesnât it⌠The Nakamotoâs lifestyle is super encased in rules and social propriety, duty and hierarchy. Old noble man whoâs been surrounded by propriety all his life and just wants some spark of interesting stuff happening amongst the humdrum of his lavish cushioned life at home, and is shitty to people around him in consequence and due to his privilege allowing him to. Heâs despicable, but from his 3 appearances he becomes an interesting well-fleshed character, at least proportionally to the screentime he getsâŚ
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/96164da3a241507da6e9b72016b323cb/3bec17bc3c960099-93/s540x810/9a54960a9945ff8963f1225ef494bdb663891aeb.webp)
We also know that the affair with Maizuru is well known at least inside the household, so thereâs no genuine secrecy around the topic. Makes sense that the wife would hate her guts.
Ahh yes the mother. Little is known about the mother, except that from Maizuruâs profile "Shuroâs mother canât stand the sight of her, to the point where there are areas on the property Maizuru is forbidden to enter. Maizuru, however, is impressed by his wifeâs strength of character." From this I glean that she does have enough power/respect in the house that she can make rules like where Maizuru is allowed to go. Also the implication that otherwise Mazuru would have access to EVERYWHERE in the house despite being only a (high-ranking) servant is a bit interesting. Wether the motherâs "strength of character" is overt and hot-headed or understated and cool-headed is unsure, but I imagine the latter more. I could see Maizuruâs angle in many ways, from being able to tolerate "that fool" aka the father both just in general and with knowing that heâs cheating on her, to knowing how hard it is to be respected as a woman and admiring her putting up with it all and still being able to have sway in the household. This is I think the only mention of the mother anywhere. Doesnât seem like she is an important figure to Toshiro at all: in fact we hear about her on Maizuruâs profile, and seeing all of this we can see the importance of her in Maizuruâs backstory and life, moreso than Toshiroâs. I imagine sheâs a bit of a recluse, which is part of why Maizuru not being allowed to roam the full house is important, because them running into each other at the house is high.
Itâs unsure how much contact the parents have with their kids. What we know is that they left the principal tasks of raising the kids, or at least Toshiro, to servants. Toshiroâs profile says that heâs more attached to Maizuru than his parents, and thatâs the phrasing. From the comic where their father summons the sons, it does seem like theyâre more or less used to interacting, with the sonsâ "This again?". So itâs not that theyâve only interacted with them few times enough to count on fingers, but how meaningful were those interactions? From Toshiroâs profile we know he has a complex where he thinks heâll never get recognition from his father or be able to measure up to him⌠But is that more born out of secondhand gossip and expectations, or from direct interactions with him that made him feel that way? Likely a mix of both, especially since the father does seem to be very dismissive, uncaring and insulting with his sons. Oh, but itâs definitely notable that in the Hag monster tidbit (below in Maizuruâs section) six years old Toshiro runs to his father scared shitless for help against the shikigami, and his father casually helps him without batting an eye. Toshitsugu knows how to deal with Maizuruâs shikigamis, and he does so efficiently and without any sense of worry or urgency. Although the event traumatized Toshiro and he was very scared, it doesnât seem like his father offered any comfort, beyond just helping getting rid of it and letting him cower behind him without comment. Toshitsugu gives hungover vibes in that one imo haha. Itâs shown he was already training as a ninja, perhaps this event only reinforced Toshiroâs complex, seeing his father, the samurai the achieved man who has expectations for him, so unfazed and uncaring like that.

The Maizuru situation
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b606b1aed80fb33213603ab041b87d54/3bec17bc3c960099-d0/s540x810/5796ed3ff7419f684a0b90157e0ebc9417591a74.webp)
Letâs establish a timeline first. Itâs left vague how much time sheâs served the Nakamoto family for, or how she came to be in their service. The central point is that "She was put in charge of raising their children at a young age". If straight from his birth, Maizuru started taking care of Toshiro when she was 15 years old. If from toddler age, then 16. Itâs uncertain if when she stopped getting front-line espionage missions, but we know itâs late rather than early despite having kid raising duties. But well, since sheâs also in charge of the ninjas sheâs definitely has a multitasking role even now.
The dad prob has around 5-10 years more than Maizuru, Iâd say. We only see half of his face and only a good few years in the past, around ~3 years ago probably with the shuro quest and a good 7 years with Izutsumi as a kid, but visually those are the vibes Iâm getting. From Toshiroâs birth, itâs possible that the father was 15 when the baby was born too? But conception would have been closer to 14 years old then, and yeah I donât think they marry and have kids that young. Toshiro is 26 years old in canon and is unmarried, and the heir hasnât been officially picked, so marriage and kids donât seem to be in the familyâs priorities. Even if Maizuru do say that the father would love if Toshiro brought back a wife.
Now the elephant in the room: she has an on-and-off affair with the father and it has been si for many many years, at LEAST 7 years since thatâs when we see that comic of him going into her chambers about Izutsumi, and in the comic above, Hien in that panel has an ambiguous age. Regardless itâs definitely implied that itâs a long, long-standing thing. Hienâs phrasing above makes it sound as if itâs not purely physical, as if feelings are involved, "heâs head over heels for his confidante", and who knows if this relationship is part of why Maizuru was chosen to be the governess, or even hired at all.
Itâs in the feud with his father that we learn about maizuruâs affair and how after learning it he started shutting her out emotionally. Itâs left vague when Toshiro learned about it, Hien made it sound as if everybody always more or less knew but I donât think Toshiro started shutting her out when he was still pretty young. Regardless, the two are implied to be linked, his dislike of his father/complex and how he stopped getting along well with Maizuru/being emotionally open with her. Is it that he now feels as though Maizuru is actually on his fatherâs side and not his own, that after all if she had to choose sheâd pick him over Toshiro too? Or is it that, because his fatherâs known to be a self-centered frivolous jerk, that knowing she lets it happen, "canât seem to shake it", he respects her less? He has an irresponsible reputation and she does give off the vibe of needing to clean up his messes, so that wouldnât be unplausible either.
On the flipside from her perspective, since he learned she was his dadâs mistress he emotionally shut her out, which can partly explain why sheâs SO fussy with him and happy at the slightest hint of happiness or compliance, like when he listens to her and eats, or maybe even being happy that he lets her help him dress and keep tidy (imo this is supported by how they interact in the page showing him interacting with all his party members). She wants to regain that closeness they once had and for her baby chick to be alright as heâs slipping through her fingers. Man so sad to think about him rejecting her when heâs the only thing in her life. Sheâs raised him for 26 years, no wonder sheâs so attached to him, the only thing in her life she feels true unconditional attachment for. Maizuru says that she thinks Toshiroâll be a better head of the house than the father, too. The respect and care is somewhat onesided, given freely from her side but repressed from his end. When she cares for Toshiro is when her demeanor immediately and drastically softens. She gets easily carried away when it comes to him, rambling enthusiastically or smiling widely or tearing up. Her tendency to ramble or tell anecdotes about Toshiro is shown making Hien and Benichidori go "Here she goes againâŚ" twice through canon.

With Izutsumiâs timeline we see Izutsumi was taken into the Nakamoto household at 10 yo, and since in the comic with Maizuru and the dad sheâs shown as stinky and all I imagine she arrived there the same day, so Maizuru was in charge of her since she was first here. In fact if we assumed that itâs the same day as when he bought her at the circus show, then we could assume that buying her was a drunken whim like mentioned.
Since Izutsumi was taken in at 10 and sheâs 17, this would mean that Maizuru is 34 years old here. She looks younger without makeup, but lower than that is mathematically impossible besides maybe 33 if Maizuru and Izutsumiâs birthdays line up just right.

Time for the second elephant in the room!!
Maizuruâs magic
Maizuru is the only person in the Nakamoto household, anyone from Wa really, who we see using magic, I doubt sheâd be the only one who can use magic in the household but as the governess it wouldnât be unplausible I suppose. From what we see, the magic is estimated by Marcille to be an "appropriation of gnomic magic" with an eastern script. For my analysis of written magic (though with only a brief glance over Maizuruâs magic), see this post.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5e2ae9834f5b2149231ab2f99d1d0e16/3bec17bc3c960099-dc/s540x810/ec52856364a5d906662c878d375ce27c580cd436.jpg)
If you scroll up and read the little section on Maizuruâs profile, Ninja art: babysitter: "One of the curses put on Izutsumi is Ninja Art: Babysitter, which manifests as a terrifying hag shikigami. Unless Maizuru touches the victim within a set time frame, this terrible curse makes a hag appear and chase them around with a carving knife. Maizuru originally created it in an attempt to keep Shuro from getting lost, but it ended up traumatizing himâŚ"
From Izutsumiâs profile: "Maizuru, who was Shuroâs governess, is the one thing Izutsumi fears. [âŚ] Since Izutsumi refused to listen to her, Maizuru set a curse on her that would activate if Maizuru didnât touch her within a set time frame: "Ninja Art: Babysitter." It was put on her when she was 12. Since Toshiro had it as a kid, presumably the curse can be lifted off rather easily, Marcille was confident on reverse engineering it as well. Itâs unsaid what the time frame is, itâs kept vague everywhere and Izutsumi herself says "who knows" how long it is. Izutsumi ran away despite the very real risk of it killing her. Essentially, Maizuru can put people in a timebomb collar

⌠MAIZURU WHAT THE HELL
As we might have expected, Maizuru being given the task of rasing a child at 15 did not go perfectly. This, a babysitting technique??! This comic happens when Toshiro was 6 and so Maizuru was 21. Interesting to note that Toshiro didnât even know it was Maizuruâs doing before this conversation during canon, and he doesnât know how to bring it up or deal with it how it affected him. Maizuru seems surprisingly uncaring of Toshiroâs feelings on the matter here, oblivious to his conflict her and fondly recalling it all.
This curse is a shikigami. From her profile: "A shikigami user, Maizuru has a variety of shikigami that have been sealed in paper as her servants. Her favorite seems to be Gyuki, a bull ogre." Now donât ask me when Gyuki appears, I do not remember it. But before we go into the cultural/historical basis for this practice, letâs take a second to recognize the parallel that Maizuru has servants she keeps sealed unless useful in the moment, even despite having enough "attachment" to have a favorite. Sheâs the governess in charge of the other servants, and she has shikigamis, which she has used on the heir and the runt at the bottom of the hierarchy alike.
Shikigami, in traditional japanese folklore, are conjured to exercise risky orders for their masters, such as spying, stealing and enemy tracking. Shikigami are said to be invisible most of the time, but they can be made visible by binding them into small, folded and artfully cut paper manikins.
Shikigamis are from onmyodo, onmyoji is a profession-legal title historically but itâs what you call a practitioner of onmyodo, and so I feel content in saying that Maizuru is an onmyoji, or based on it. Her outfit reminds me of a shinto priest. Itâs interestingly closer to a shinto priest outfit than a miko/shrine maidenâs (in picture below, 2 instead of 5), and I feel like red being chosen for the inner sleeve is a very charged decision since the white & red color combo is the shinto clothes color combo. Especially white clothes with red inner sleeve. Shinto priests can be women nowadays but theyâre rare, and onmyojis can be considered shinto priests though itâs a more complex than that. Image below as example, source. Now I donât think Maizuru has the role or prestige of a priest at all- But the association with onmyodo and spirituality is definitely meant to be made I think. Onmyojis are usually clothed similarly to this.

The babysitter ninja art seems to be based off of the hannya yokai. "They were once human women who were consumed by jealousy and transformed into demonesses", twisted by anger and resentment. Interesting considering her being a mistress to a man whose wife hates her. Hannyas are associated with wisdom because of its name, but there is nothing positive about them. At its highest level of "demonic corruption" if I can call it that, their body tend to become serpentine, fun link to make with her name being from the snakeberry plant.
Other cultural ties or symbolism on Maizuruâs character could be found in the motif of cranes due to her sleeves, in the tales of the crane wife, origami cranes (called orizuru, from deformation of éś´ "tsuru" aka "crane". All names are written in katakanas in Dungeon Meshi, but thus if we had had the kanjis itâs possible her name would have been written with the kanji for crane), tennyos, and japanese crane symbolism in general. I thought cranes might have been associated with motherhood, but seemingly not in japanese culture at least, I was thinking of storks haha.
Ok speaking of her name. Maizuru is the name of an existing japanese city (čéś´), meaning "dancing crane". From @room-surpriseâs work in progress research paper on Dungeon Meshi charactersâ names: "Maizuru is her ninja code name, and comes from âmaizurusouâ, which is maianthemum dilatatum, the snakeberry plant/two-leaved Solomon's seal/false lily of the valley. Lily of the Valley is a plant associated with motherhood and virtue⌠So Maizuru being a false Lily of the Valley implies that she is a false, replacement mother, and also hints at the way that Toshiro became cold towards her when he realized she was his fatherâs mistress, and not a pure, virtuous mother-like figure that he thought she was. Also, lilies are toxic to cats, which makes sense since Maizuru and Izutsumi have an extremely bad relationship." For more details Iâll leave it up to Room when the paper is ready to be released. Edit: Itâs out!! Click here! Incredible meta that goes into a ton of details not only about Maizuru.
So some big themes of her character are: (false) motherhood, spirituality/magic, control, cranes, womanâs jealousy.

Alriight so besides Toshiro the eldest at 26 years old, there is Toshiyuki (Toshitsuge in one fantranslation) the middle son and Toshizane the youngest (Toshikage in one fantranslation). They were all said to be raised by Maizuru. "A strange level of distance" is interesting. Why strange? I feel like this implies they do interact regularly, and that theyâre all rather civil wirh each other, but they still have little bond to speak of. That wouldnât surprise me, especially since even inside the family etiquette and propriety and rules are enforced, the summoning by his father feels very formal and they all listen to him standing in silence despite having snappy inner thoughts. Itâs unsure if they were largely raised together or apart, but since Maizuru was their (at least main) caretaker/governess it implies that they were imo. They were put in competition with each other for the title of heir to the house, though itâs unsure to what degree. Itâs examplified by their family all having names that start with "Toshi" that the legacy is very important and thrust upon them, cogs in a machine almost. They all think the same thing when their father summons them and has a spiel, so theyâre used to the same sort of treatment and they are indeed brothers for being on similar wavelengths haha.
Toshiyuki, as seen in the comic about his retainers, the poor soul sent into Darkest Dungeon, is brattish. Rude, selfish and rather lecherous, does not hesitate to be mean to his retainers and complain he wasnât given women retainers. Visually he looks what, 14 years old top. I wonder if Maizuru stopped using her babysitter ninja art on the heirs after it traumatized Toshiro, and if so maybe that explains why Toshiyuki Knows No Fear In His Heartâ˘ď¸ and thatâs why he can spout off stuff like that.
The retainers for the youngest brother, Toshizane, donât seem to be as clad in ninja gear as the other two, seems like the priority is to take care of the very young young master there? Rather than truly go adventuring and dungeoneering, perhaps. Not that itâs ever said by anyone that their quest is to go into dungeons specifically, only to find something "interesting" to bring back, but both Toshiro and Toshiyuki are shown to have ended up drifting into dungeons. Toshizane looks young, Iâd clock him 8 years old personally. Heâs drawn looking rather innocent, especially the headshot doodle above and in the Toshitsuge complaining about his retainers comic. ALTHOUGH on the latter, interestingly as we see with Toshiro having a smug smirk in that same panel (or alternatively a smug indifferent/uncomfortable "i donât care about this, even though you want it so much" look which at the very least is very exaggerated from how he emotes in reality), itâs Toshiyukiâs unreliable/exaggerated vision of his brothers and it doesnât necessaeily reflect reality, though itâs still interesting to note that thatâs the vision Toshiyuki has of his brothers/the impression Toshizane gives off. That can imply juicy dynamics for the brothers, for example if Toshiyuki feels as though heâs in competition with his brothers, feels superior to them, that instead of pushing the shitty family dynamic angst onto his father he puts the blame for it all onto Toshiro. Toshizane seems maybe too young to notice the tensions and seriousness around him, maybe more coddled⌠IS WHAT I WOULD SAY BUT in the comic where their father send them away heâs as well-behaved and serious as the others, so clearly he has a grasp on his role.
When talking about which retainers go with who, itâs said it was the fatherâs choice. Iâd like to assume it wasnât an airheaded/random choice. Maybe he knew that Toshiyuki would be weird about having women in his team of retainers? And wants to forge their character or protect them in the way they need. Though how Toshiroâs party only has women isnât only pointed out and commented on by the comic with Toshitsuge but also in the main Dungeon Meshi story, both Marcille and Chilchuck going "his party is fully made up of women", one more loudly than the other haha. So it does feel like a somewhat pointed/purposeful decision, if not that the 4 girls were already a team like I mentioned.
The other retainers

Already made an analysis of Hien and Benichidoriâs relationship (+ moment compilation) here. Honestly my juices are exhausted so quick rundown:
Hienâs parents both serve the Nakamotos, so she grew up with the family and was even a childhood friend of Toshiro. She assumed he and her might end up in a Maizuru-Toshitsugu situation âjust because thatâs how things areâ/âitâd be a natural developmentâ if weâre to believe Hien, ahh what growing up at the Nakamotosâ with those role models will make you believe is normal hah, and was surprised when it ended up not in that way at all. They grew more distant with time, in good part because of the professional nature of their roles in relation to each other (truly a reversal of the Maizuru-Toshitsugu situation). Sheâs the leader of their lil squad, under Maizuru, sheâs very confident and she gets the perks, like getting the bedframe in the shared inn room. For all the details just read her page. She has two dots, showing her rank as a full fledged ninja. I made a more in depth more speculative reading of her in this post.
Benichidori was bought, by "the Nakamotos" so we donât know who made the final decision. Sheâs perceptive and submissive, her specialty is implied to be disguise. She never had much contact with Toshiro before she became part of his party. She has facial dysmorphia where she fears the judgement of others if she doesnât wear makeup and highly values beauty, in her extra her anxiety really shows and she ends up angrily snapping at Hien. Benichidori ends up taking a big liking to Hien and from there on theyâre implied to be inseparable. She has two dots, showing her rank as a full fledged ninja.
Inutade is said to worship Toshitsugu because he "saved her" from her horrible life conditions, buying her personally from the sumo matches, sheâs extremely grateful to the family and is happy to do any work they give her and is highly satisfied with her current living conditions. She seems to find Toshiro intimidating, though. She was separated from her parents from before she can remember and raised as a sumo wrestler in inhumane betting matches, where her front tooth broke. It seems she has very littke ambitions and dreams besides obeying orders day to day, but after Izutsumi fled away she was happy for her and mused that sheâd love to go out and find her one day. Theyâre so besties Izutsumi gave her a dream of her own Iâm sobbing⌠</3 She has one dot, showing she still has to be attributed her role and earn her stripes.

Sighh where to even begin. Her timeline was put in Maizuruâs section of this post but the rundown is "taken away from parents and turned into a beastkin" at 6 yo (the human half of her soul), "sent to a sideshow on the island of Wa" at 7 yo and bought by Toshitsugu at 10 yo when he took an interest in her when he visited the sideshow. Maizuru put the curse on Izutsumi at age 12, so from then on she always had to not stray much far from Maizuru or risk death, itâs unsure if Inutadeâs extra is from before that time, before she was 12, so she could still attempt many many tries to run away. If thatâs the case, then Maizuruâs curse was very much treated as a last resort, honestly beyond everything else I can see it being a pain that Maizuru would need to touch her every so often on Maizuruâs schedule as well. The alternative is that, not unlike Kabru who had no regrets dying in a dungeon rather than staying with Milsiril, sheâd risk her life to get a taste of freedom. Besides, you know, being a slave and having a timebomb collar with Maizuruâs curse, her frustrations with her life with the Nakamotos is most concisely put in the comic just up above, Inutadeâs extra.
She has no dot tattoo, meaning sheâs at rock bottom of the hierarchy. It makes sense, since unlike Inutade sheâs rebellious and needs threats to obey orders, and even then might try shifty business.

This last part where Izutsumi tries sleeping with Toshiro is most interesting to me. So sheâs sought out contact with Toshiro before, she considers him "the stuck-up guy" but she doesnât exactly hate him. I wonder if this comic is set in the inn on The Island or back at the Nakamoto household, because if thatâs the latter it implies that she could get access to his room if sheâs sneaky.
Oh oh also, this is fanon but since Toshiroâs weapon is one used usually on horseback, and with the steadfast and upright character of horses I associate Toshiro with horses a bit, though this is wild fanon. Whatâs interesting is that the plant Asebi was named after is a plant infamous for being toxic to horses. Hehe hehehe he wears a ponytail⌠Hm now that I think of it hairdos have importance for samurais, should look into that.
Toshiro

God. Ok. Everything was leading up to this guy. Need to split open his head like a geode and vibecheck his brain crystals. Letâs get some interesting details out of the way first.
His weapon is a tachi, not a katana. The wikipedia on tachis is more in depth if you want, but I consider the article I linked to be in deoth and digestible. Tachis are heavier and longer blades than katanas, and make for better horseback weapons than close combat. The way Toshiro uses one instead of a katakana shows that heâs extra strong⌠And does make sense, since most monsters wonât fight in as close quarters as human fighters. If katanas arenât a thing in the world yet could make a difference, since tachis were invented first, and once the katana was invented and spread tachis became something more common in higher-ranking samurais. In the monster tidbit of the Hag, itâs shown that even at 6 years old Toshiro was training and learning ninja skills, his first instinct to the shikigami besides running being to fight.

Toshiro knew that Izutsumi wanted to leave, for sure. He may have been sympathetic, if his cryptic look back at her in the âToshiro interacting with his party membersâ page means anything. As seen below though, him being sympathetic doesnât necessarily mean that much. Also, Toshiro had to have known about the curse on Izutsumi, where if Maizuru doesnât touch her once in a while sheâd die. "Asebi must have ran away, leave her" can be seen as subtle support for her to gain her freedom, but it could just as easily be seen as him leaving her behind to die. Because the outcome options are 1) she gets killed by Maizuru's curse, 2) she finds a way to break the spell, 3) she finds a way back to them.

Heâs very conflict averse. Wether it be in relationships like with Laios or the status quo. Will not stand up for 99% things including himself. He obeys his father quietly despite his anger and dislike. This is the same guy who can't even get himself to speak up to correct the butchering of his name, the slippery slope that got him tangled in the Laios party seemingly without resistance. Itâs very japanese etiquette from even nowadays, never saying a direct no to not be rude. ALSO THAT PANEL, has Toshiro beaten an ogre before?? Is that a brother of his?? Does seem in character for Toshiyuki the most, unless Toshiro was desperate to earn his fatherâs attention with feats. On the right Iâd say the ones in the foreground are two of the brothers, maybe the third being the one to gesture to the ogre. Itâs worth noting that inheritance laws during the Edo period often made the heir the son with "the most merit".
When with a goal thatâs important to him heâs fine with even starving for it. Although what we see him be like that about in canon is Falin, aka self-admittedly in the post-canon proposal comic "the first person he has liked this much", which for him I feel is like admitting sheâs one of the first things he has truly wanted for himself and fought for, soo⌠Itâs more like an exceptional freaking out moment than something that would be recurring, most likely. How disheveled he got is a testament to how much he would forego propriety and rules for people of his status for the person he cares about most. Maizuru says the first personal request heâs (ever?) made was for them to help him rescue Falin.
Which ahh yes, his crush on Falin. I do think idealization plays into it, he doesnât know Falin that well for sure, but itâs more complex than that too. Falin is pretty and can have an ethereal energy to her, sheâs caring and gentle kinda motherly which Toshiro would find soothing I imagine, BUT MOST OF ALL. Sheâs weird!! Sheâs just weird enough to allow and be charmed by!! Shuro was fully shaped by his upbringing and environment of nobility, social etiquette and whatnot. Yeah sheâs weird and quirky, but still quiet and sweet-mannered enough that heâs like "Yes, she wouldnât bring shame on my family name". And why would he be charmed by her weirdness? Because all heâs ever known is rules!! Conformity, fitting in!! Unlike the others he knows, she is weird without being overbearing as well. "Woah sheâs so different⌠Sheâs kind and soft and doesnât care about fitting in⌠She is out of this world, sheâs free, she shows me a world where tenderness and authenticity is possibleâŚ" Sheâs like his comfort character. MOREOVERRR I had totally forgotten about it, but Toshiro was shown watching a snail behind a bush and losing sight of everything else (like Maizuru calling him) as a kid in the Hag monster tidbit, the moment he fell in love with Falin it was when she looked enthralled at a caterpillar and he mentions how "most girls would have screamed or recoiled in disgust", and in the beach chibis page heâs crouching and collecting shells thinking about Falin⌠He likes bugs and crawly critters guys, he wishes he could be cottagecore too⌠Itâs a genuine shared interest⌠. Someone pointed out that Toshiro & Falinâs relationship probaboy references this japanese folk tale, and I think thatâs very interesting to note.
And Maizuru is like his mom but itâs a Thistle situation where they canât just be a normal family and normal affectionate either- and when he learns about his father having a thing with her he feels weirded out. And like. Who knows how much he even got out of the mansion. He got homeschooled. Heâs distant with his brothers. The family is in shambles
Shuroâs issue is that he was taught to be perfect and have the upmost respectable behavior, so if something annoys him he has to be righteous about it and that itâs the annoying thingâs fault or moral failing. Bro just let yourself be petty sometimes itâs healthier. With the feud with his father itâs explicitly stated that the pressure and expectations of the family name weigh on him a lot.
But then, that makes his beef with Laios so understandable doesnât it. Not justified, but explained certainly.
Laios & Shuro and the whole mess coming to a head
Iâve made an analysis of the Laios-Shuro fight from Laiosâ pov before, here. This is the Shuro pov analysis. Yes yes in The Fight, Shuro is dehydrated sleep-deprived and underate, heâs majorly off his rocker, BUT his frustration and the underlying issues are still things he felt on any day and itâs interesting to note.
Toshiro has been raised from his birth with the priority of propriety, nobility, etiquette, rules, conforming elegantly, appareances and reputation are everything. Heâs modest, humble, quiet, stays in his lane and bottles all his feelings up. Wait who is this loud guy coming up to me being inconsiderate and loud af?? Does he not see me blinking in morse code that Iâm not enjoying this and want him to leave?? Was he raised in a barn?? Heâs overbearing and rude and way too friendly- Heâs weird wtf! Not conforming to basic etiquette is illegal??! And people just⌠Let him do whateve he wants?? He lives well, no one stops him or kills him?? What the fuck, Iâve followed rules and etiquette thoroughly all my life, and itâs thankless work I get no recognition for, meanwhile he gets to be oblivious af and do whatever he wants without getting clapped?? Resentment, frustration, dislike, anger anger anger, jealousy.
Laios might even remind Toshuro of his dad in a way, because he SEEMS impulsive and like he does whatever he wants without a care to people around him, without thinking of how it might affect them. Doing things without thinking through the Implications. And interestingly this is a bit paralleled to to how Shuro is serious, strict, and big on the duties that come with having a leader role and the family dynamic it brings, like Laiosâ own father, who Laios also dislikes⌠Dealing with his anger towards Laios, especially knowing that Laios doesnât mean anything bad by it like Toshiro admits, is probably very healing to him. He stops repressing and thinks through his issues a bit, realizes what parts of his life heâs unhappy with and where all the negative feelings come from. I do think he bottles up his dislike for his father a bit, he has to at least for appearances. His beef with Laios is repackaged internalized anger for his father, but itâs ALSO repackaged frustration from his etiquette-bound lifestyle. He says it himself, when Laios is like "You never told Falin how you feelâŚ? Alright, when I can Iâll tell her for you buddy!!", "thatâs the part of you that I envy". Laiosâ ability to just come out and say what he wants to, what he means. He wishes he could be free of all the rules more, that he had te courage to speak out, like with Inutade, or talking things out with Maizuru, or nit having to act like heâs not angry with his father. This narrative point of Toshiro envying Laiosâ ability to say things freely and being frustrated by not being able to himself is ESPECIALLY examplified by their first interactions, the basis of their relationship: Laios enthusiastically befriending him, giving him a bad nickname and roping him into joining his party, with Toshiro never turning it all down despite wanting to, too hesitant to act possibly rude.
And now is time for the laishuro addendum⌠Because of personal experiences itâs a bit of a sensitive spot to me so while I see timelines in which I enjoy it Iâm very picky⌠This is all further theorizing from me btw Iâm not pushing my view here onto ppl as facts, but I think thereâs more interesting bits and scenarios to bite into here. Laishuro has very cute and sweet potential. I personally donât see the "Oh wait Laios is just girl FalinâŚÂ đł" angle because to me if anything thatâd just make Shuro disillusioned with Falin lol, but like yes make Shuro learn that itâs ok to be weird with Laios 𼺠They DO have differences first of all, important ones, especially from Toshiroâs perspective. Laios is overwhelming, whereas Falin is soothing. Laios is loud and asks things of him where Falin is a calm, quiet presence. Laios pushes himself onto Toshiro, whereas Falin is content on just doing her own thing in her corner alone.
Hot take but the ultimate laishuro timeline is the one where he DOESNâT bring Laios back home, because he knows heâll be seen as an oddity and clown by his father, and he doesnât want Laios to be treated like the tapdancing monkey there to please and entertain his father the way he himself has always kind of been. Wouldnât inflict that onto someone he loves. He can recognize when people are taken advantage of (mostly) like Inutade, and it doesnât settle right with him. He might be especially sensitive to it in Inutadeâs case because itâs about seeing his dad in a better light than he deserves, though. His father is his weak spot, THE weak spot.
It gets me so emotional thinking about it actually because seeing Laios played like a fiddle by his father, Laios so happy to find someone whoâs enthusiastically listening to him ramble and engaging, would destroy Shuro emotionally I think. Like. On one hand being like "Oh of course my dad would find Laios fun, unlike me his boring son", super angry as coping mechanism for his intense sadness of not having positive parental attention, and then on the other heâd see Laios being treated as a clown and identify with it and that would remind him of how he gets treated similarly which heâs in denial about (more or less, but since he puts up with the family rules and follows along he hasnât given up on getting recognition. He wants his fatherâs approval, and he couldnât blame Laios for being happy with it despite how hurtful that attention truly is without Laiosâ knowledge), which would be such an overwhelming conflicted mess of emotions and his worldview would shatter a bit because he has to repress it all even now, and heâd have a breakdown.
And similar deal but if he brought Falin home⌠Bc ok yes he idealizes her and doesnât even know her all that well, but like I said imo what he sees in her is that "Woah sheâs so different⌠Sheâs kind and soft and doesnât care about fitting in⌠She is out of this world, sheâs free, she shows me a world where tenderness and authenticity is possibleâŚ" So meanwhile with Laios heâd have mixed feelings on him getting treated like a clown and identify with it, bringing Falin home and having her be demeaned would be like having his perfect comfort character dunked on and he gets reminded that the world canât have anything good actually. With both Toudens itâd make his resentment towards his father even worse, he might snap. Iâm not the biggest on gendered analysis tbh but Kui evidently does like to do it to some degree, with the genderbending changing their life considerably and different fantasy cultures having different gender roles and all, but Shuro idealizing the Touden sister as something perfect he cannot attain while being jealous and frustrated at Laios for being something he cannot attain is like. So compelling actually. With Maizuruâs hannya of female rage weaponized there could be a theme of pushing the blame and responsibilities of things onto women too, the responsibility to raise and to manage and to dish out the work and to clean after mensâ reckless decisions. Anyways just a tangent.
Shuro on a bad family angst day is everything I love in a blorbo⌠He can be a lil shitty as a treat to make his healing arc more fulfilling. Toshiro snapping after he sees how they treat Laios/Falin and he gives up the family headship to LEAVE. Maizuru arc where she has to choose between loyalty to the clan and loyalty to Toshiro, will she stay with the boy she raised or go home⌠To me Maizuru is much less sympathetic than Shuro, but she is pretty tragic and her selfless love for Shuro is her one redeeming quality. Babygirl take no shit no more, but also better yourself and turn your life around please and thank you⌠She is so evidently taken advantage of but like. What else does she have? So she just takes care of and loves the boy she raised like her own kid and goes about her daily life in servitude and doesnât think too much about it all.
Shuro is awful a nickname but also, I think Shiro would be a good nickname for Toshiro, because it gets rid of that âToshiâ first part of his name that all the male members of his family share. It severes the link to his father and the tied pressure from his family.
Laishuro brotp turning slow burn romance would be so lovely. I think college au for laishuro would be peak actually⌠Shuro so is the repressed "I am so normal" guy who has a furry liberation identity crisis arc⌠I also quite like the potential heâd have with Namari, as both work-oriented misfit foreigners cast out of their homes, and sheâs also bolder so itâd be good for him, and he could bring her stability⌠Thatâs a topic for another day tho. Even he and falin are sweet tbh, they could have traveled around together even if just as friends⌠Bc yeah she does value him as a friend at least somewhat, she says sheâll visit him~! Mostly I want Izutsumi-Toshiro brotp fancontent.
Conclusion
The household is very hierarchy oriented, and honestly the system doesnât seem to make anyone happy, or at least not healthily so. Sighh feudalism.
Obviously their situation are very different, but still Toshiro and Izutsumi react to the same conflict in opposite ways: when a hierarchy and lifestyle of rules and duty is thrust upon them, Toshiro obeys and believes that itâs how things simply are, always having it been drilled into him since being a baby and being privileged enough to live ok with things as they are, meanwhile Izutsumi rages and eventually breaks free and never wants to submit herself to rules or hierarchy ever again, even if that perceived hierarchy is a mutually beneficial professional party dynamic or having a role inside a well-meaning team, like Laiosâ party. WHICH IS WHY THEY SHOULD HANG OUT AND HAVE AN ARC TOGETHER. LET HER INFLUENCE HIM TO GET WILDER AND THINK OF HIMSELF MORE. FUCK INHERITING THE HEADSHIP. THE SIBLINGS NARRATIVE.
As always if I find more stuff to add iâll edit it in. Rn Iâm thinking that Iâll look into ninja & samurai feudal history and try to find specific terms that might fit their roles and situations more. I should reread try to cover Izutsumiâs end of the Toshiro-Izu dynamic as well.
I greatly recommend this paper for more excellent meta on all named Dunmeshi characters and their culture!
Ah yes yes, I forgot to talk about it but we donât know what Toshiroâs retainers have been doing with their time on The Island, especially while he was dungeon diving with Laios and co. Although in the animeâs ed in this shot we see them "stealthily" follow him around, so presumably when heâs not in dungeons theyâre tailing his moves.
Afterword here, it has summary charts about the power structure & relationships and complementary pages and artworks, couldnât put them in here because SIGH 30 pictures per post limit.

I was talking to my mutual about Cole when I had a surge of Thoughts so per usual you all have to hear them now. I was considering a couple things, namely his development and place as the "strong guy" on the team and his masculinity (and how it presents in the show vs in fanon).
Cole's pretty often typecast as the gruff strong guy in a lot of fan-media (from fanfics to fanart etc) which isn't wrong because he was like that, especially within the early seasons. The way he spoke, the way he acted, his place as a sort of leading force. In season three you even see him in that stupid lumberjack fit (said affectionately), it's all very traditionally masculine. Which fits his whole Strong and Big guy of the team role (the five man band archetypes etc etc). However, it's interesting to say because at his core, he's very emotional and very driven by a strong sense of internal compassion (with a canonical affinity to children). Which obviously none of that is opposed to masculinity but these traits begin to show more as the gruffness pulls back. The first real example of that I think is in ToE with his fight with Jay. I don't read him as being invested in their fighting the same way Jay was. Jay was fueled by insecurity and a very strong sense of jealousy and possessiveness. Cole? I think he was just reacting to Jay's aggression, which didn't put Nya in a better position but it is a difference.Â
So when their match rolls around, he's the first one to realize what they're doing is stupid and give in. He reaches out emotionally to Jay. However, Jays still is a friend so that is easy to write off as a symptom of friendship. And then following ToE we have possession and DOTD which I think are where he really begins to develop, and have the strongest examples of what I'm getting at. I'm going out on a limb and saying that I really see his prior gruffness as a sort of armor, to be good enough for the team (insert that one Wu note of him staying up late before missions) and also there his whole rebellious streak against his father trying to force him to be someone he's not. (Note: I wouldn't be surprised if how Lou raised him really had a impact on all this) Then, we get to Possession and both his self worth and self image are shook badly by literally dying. He outright says he's not a ninja anymore, which I think he based a lot of who he was on (<- which is why struggling with it hit so hard).
Finally DOTD comes up and I think we see the strongest example of where his compassion really become a core trait. It's his fight with Yang. He had no reason to reach out to him, to be honest he had the right not to, but he did and it worked! He didn't get out of DOTD in the end with brute force, he got out of it with emotional support (his team showing up), a stubborn adherence to his moral code, and reaching out to Yang with empathy. From that point on, I think he's softer and more prone to being emotional, it's like there was a very real shift. To circle back to Jay, because I think he makes for a good comparison, he does not develop like that post ToE. Actually, the issues carying from s3 (though, they do exist prior just not as starkly) all the way to Skybound where it gets violently (literally) addressed. Jay fans can probably say it better than me but the season is about his insecurity and treatment of Nya and there's a reason both Nadakhan and Cliff are like that (read: they're parallels). It's just interesting because both Cole and Jay have issues with self worth and image but they present and develop very differently.Â
There's also the fanon aspect with those two that's really funny. I think everyone's aware of the infamous fanon-bruise, the 2010s-yaoification. Uwu Jay, Big Strong Man Cole, and how weirdly racist it is. It's just funny to note because the issues projected onto Cole in fanon are ones Jay has, like, in the show. Cole's the more emotional and compassionate one of the two, but because of the strong guy role, it gets flipped around in fanon. Going by the 'traditional' (read: toxic) masculine standards, in terms of personality and character, I think Jay more closely aligns. It reminds me of this post I saw once, it was of Hunted where Jay was making the plane (?) and Cole was with baby Wu. It called Jay the 'mom' and Cole the 'dad' which I find kind of funny because if you look at it through that hetero-normative lense, it really should be the other way around. Cole's the one caring for the baby pretty consistently, Jay's the one making a machine and Working. Did Jay just get called the 'mom' there because people think of him as smaller and weaker and therefore more feminine? Did Cole get called the dad just because he's strong and considered bigger? It's interesting. Fanon does Cole really dirty sometimes.
To get back on topic of Cole's narrative development, then we get to MOTM (like a bajillion years later which no I'm not complaining except I am). Cole's characterization in MOTM is so fucking good. MOTM does a fantastic job at tying together several of his strings. It ties in Lilly, his self esteem, his staunch morality, affinity towards leadership, and compassion into one, pretty bow. MOTM puts Cole back into a leading role, and it gives him several groups to reach out to (Vania, the munce and geckle, the uppily). It draws back the insecurity present in him, letting it show again to be addressed. It even ties in his relationship to Wu in a really lovely way to me. MOTM is the season where Cole finds who he is, his identity and his place as his mothers son.
Speaking of that, I have a very strong love for male characters who exemplify who their mothers were and what they taught them. The scenes with Lilly really put his entire character into a different perspective. At the start he was this tough kid fresh off grief and pressurized so strongly by his dad and himself and he goes through loops and hurdles of strength and identity and by the end he finds himself exactly where he needs to be. Where he's the strongest and it's in his mothers footsteps, as someone both emotional and strong. It's a really lovely character arc to take him on, and though I haven't watched DR, I've heard they continue that on.Â
Anyways, consider it positive masculinity, consider it anything else. I just had a lot of thoughts to share and hope I don't sound too 'reading-too-deep' about it. Bye bye Kar ramble over.

Difference between Bruce and Dick as Batman.
So I know that there's a lot of temptation to compare Bruce as Batman to Dick or Damian, and Dick as Batman to Damian, often with a "oh well obviously Bruce was meaner/Dick was nicer", but I do think they have a neat contrast that fandom often overlooks (as well as some parallels).
Robin: Year One #3
Batmatn #408
Batman and Robin #6
Dick and Bruce both will deal with whatever current threat exists, before fully helping wounded Robin, getting a verbal "I'm fine" confirmation. They clearly do care about Robin. But they also have an obligation to protect people Bruce tries to physically stop joker. Jason's not fighting Dick, but he is trying to talk him down and talk him into getting help, like he did in Battle for the Cowl. The characters also generally avoid a wounded Robin -- it's just easier to see for Bruce, because Leslie calls Bruce out on it "you're leaving (to go deal with this?)" whereas no one questions Dick leaving Damian once he's got medical care and doing his own mission to revive zombie bruce. I imagine this is partially from guilt (we do see Bruce blaming himself for Dick's close call, and Dick framing Damian as his responsibility in Battle for the Cowl) and also possible due to the whole 'batman has a job, robin's physically OK now so time to help protect people' thing.
A strong difference is after the character's get injured and treated. Bruce becomes overprotective, and continues being emotionally distant, which understandably upsets Dick. He is so overprotective he benches Dick each time he is wounded seriously, and that creates friction between them.
Robin: Year One
Batman #408
Contrast this to Dick's general lack of protectiveness. Nothing changes when Damian gets wounded as Robin. Which works well (emotionally) for Damian and it works for the conventions of the genre.
Dick is generally not portrayed as very emotionally overprotective when Damian is injured, and when Damian is captured, he often expresses more verbal concern for the people who captured Damian than Damian himself.
Batman and Robin #9 - Damian, with a new metal spine, got thrown off a building by the zombie batman dick accidentally revived.
Batman and Robin #13
Detective comics annual #11
I should note: I think it would be uncharitable to assume that Dick expressing more verbal concern that Damian will hurt the supervillains who have him kidnapped means Dick doesn't care about Damian. We see in Batman and Robin some of Dick being worried when Damian is shot, and we see Dick telling Azrael they need to find a quicker way to get to Damian when Azrael is talking about how to find the guys who took him. And also, you know. I just don't think Dick would care more about the supervillains that Damian. But Damian is regarded as a tough kid, he'll be fine no matter what, and he represents a threat to other people (interestingly, something I've seen fans accuse... Bruce of doing to damian? Even though Bruce was much more protective and wasn't worried about Damian killing Nobody when Damian was going with Nobody, or Damian killing the Saturn Club guys when Damian let himself by kidnapped by the Saturn club guys to find civilians to rescue)
But I am analyzing here the actions he does and the words that he says, and what the writer dedicates panel time to. I think it's interesting that Bruce and Dick's similarities with regards to Robin getting injured involve emotionally removing themselves from the situation and focusing on cases, and then their differences are in the follow up. Dick often maintains a status quo, which is satisfying to the Robin character (he does not feel like he's being fired or judged) and fits with the conventions of the genre. Bruce often becomes overprotective to a degree where the Robin character feels estranged from him, and is excluded, resulting in alienation from robin and coming across as the "bad guy".
I find it very interesting that Dick avoids repeating mistakes of the past that Bruce made (becoming overprotective of Robin to an alienating degree and firing him) by doing things that would be read as callous or uncaring to the reader if he wasn't Dick, I guess.
P.S. I know some people say this is why they regard Morrison's Dick as OOC, but I didn't have any place to fit that acknowledgement in the above paragraphs, but I think it's important to note that this was not just Morrison's Dick. In general Dick as Batman era was way different than Nightwing Rebirth era Dick or even post 2011 Dick.

You know I really like it when IDW would sometimes bring soundwave and thundercracker together wether that be for small interaction of big missions. Because once you actually take a look into both of their characters they make great parallels and foils to one another. First while both of them were decepticons, they didn't stand for the current ideals of the decepticons after the war rather they were the ones who were the most loyal to the past ideals of freedom and equality. Then we get into the part where they are foils as when the decepticon cause began to become more cruel they start to different from each other where thundercracker was so disillusion by the cause he left, soundwave became the new leader of the decepticons and choose to return it to it roots.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7e21d34b35b8e73cd7bdcc0ef32a2529/86aa2490f18bfaa7-48/s540x810/10526c8a182014d52da9754e8be8af5188fc207a.webp)
However even though they went through different paths, they started to go through the same arc. After years of a violent mindset caused by the cause, through humanity and life on earth they started to better themselves and grow as people, to become more humane, kind and nobler.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5b4c7e602cf64afaeb631f3408e1bfe1/86aa2490f18bfaa7-7f/s640x960/c00428a964ce4c988e634ca91743be9ba8d14695.jpg)
Heck the both even got specific earth animals they would guard with their lives and best friends who are humans in the military.
All I'm saying is that they two kind of serve as mirrors of themselves as despite going down different journeys they went onto the same path and honestly that gives them quite the interesting dynamic and are also the reasons why these two decepticons are essentially my favorite transformers ever. Also you got to admit that their interactions together are kind of cute.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9ad6f6581bdd06771791e94adab6bbef/86aa2490f18bfaa7-92/s540x810/3a909a136821f927af75e155209769296e0f2aa9.jpg)
And with the recent skybound comics, they seem to be diving into soundwave and thundercrackers dynamic even more so, and I can't wait to see what they will do to their characters in the long run.

Disabled Characters in Reverse: 1999 - Part 3
Welcome to the final installment of this list of the game's disabled characters (for now), and we are ending it with the most interesting of them: the neurodivergent characters!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d288929519776b1cd8759a67909cb3be/46bca835d5133e0f-77/s540x810/037076268be030f92817c29c2db135280ebb0f6e.jpg)

These characters are particularly special since a lot of them are mainly speculated, but they draw heavy parallels to their respective conditions that they had to be taken note of.
Now because there are so many characters, they became an entire category of their own instead of being lumped with the previous post, and this became undoubtedly one of the longest texts I've written down among most of the analysis posts I've made for this game.
I hope that you enjoy reading this final piece, let's get started.
Autism: 37, Horropedia, Melania, Balloon Party, Avgust
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/88d43a24f843b9fa8a8ccde8882ccea1/46bca835d5133e0f-c6/s540x810/32389c171b256e4fa94aec17624d31d912799be9.jpg)
All of these characters are incredibly similar to each other, and yet they all have their share differences. For example, both Horropedia and 37 are characters that embody one of the main stereotypes about autism: Incredibly intelligent characters who fixate on specific subjects. 37âs focus is on mathematics, while Horropediaâs is the horror genre. Even their personalities are quite similar: arrogant yet kind and understanding people.
They lace their speech with associations to their topic of interest, and will infodump about it unprompted. The two of them also struggle to pick up social cues, nor can tell if the information theyâre sharing is unsolicited because the information is normal to themselves.
However, the difference between them in this is that Horropedia is more carefree about it, whilst 37 is more self-aware about the fact that she canât come to a mutual understanding with others.
The rest of the characters here also share these traits, but they all stand out in their own ways:
Melaniaâs intricate way of making plans tends to be in the form of academic exams. These tend to be her greatest motivator when it comes to doing work, and gets easily frustrated when having to change them. She also has a set routine that she gets easily surprised by sudden interruptions.
Balloon Partyâs speech is found to be unconventional (i.e. the speech impediment from earlier, the tone of her voice is found to be naturally flat) and is paired with word association and echolalia.
Avgust has a unique understanding of the world around him, with him associating everything and everyone with more innocent concepts. (e.g. his fatherâs death is often referred to as him âsleeping in the minesâ) None of these mean that he doesnât understand things like death as what they are, only that heâs very young among the cast and has been raised in a healthy environment that allows him to continue thinking this way for a bit longer.
ADHD: Regulus & Eagle
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/decfbd9faec0a1a47fa01fbe901c5009/46bca835d5133e0f-9a/s540x810/40f02d49f2773454fce1acd3dbafd1d5055a8cbc.jpg)
With Regulus, itâs more of a headcanon than it is backed by evidence, but the main points that can be found for her are her restlessness, lacking attention span, and her impulsivity. Theyâre common aspects (hyperactive) in ADHD, and thus they arenât exactly conclusive.
But I also found that Regulus also tends to bring her interests to light when navigating through conversations, and this with the reasons mentioned above makes me personally believe that Regulus does not just strictly have ADHD, but still overall neurodivergent.
Eagle seems to have the inattentive type of ADHD. A more established indicator of her likely having it is through her anecdote, where she was said to have had some sort of attention-deficit. In that anecdote, Eagle mainly acts on her own impulses such as jumping to try to find the missing boy scout, and even helping X if it meant that it progressed her mission.
She struggles to take rejection and constantly tries to prove herself to be able to gain the acceptance sheâs looking for. It made me believe that she has Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria. (RSD)
While these alone arenât conclusive either, they still give me enough reason to believe that Eagle could be implied to be neurodivergent too.
AuDHD (Autism + ADHD): Vertin, Marcus, AliEn T
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d97c5ec95fee85a9fdf17911ed7adc5f/46bca835d5133e0f-05/s540x810/a5e4240f4ac53b25e82e5165e9a097fc3e0af181.jpg)
From the earlier points, we find that some of the mixed traits that make for auDHD are found in Vertin, Marcus, and AliEn T. All three of them are quite emotional (even Vertin in spite of her stoicism) and impulsive people, where they tend to jump into action when they have a rough plan set in mind. They also have their own interests (wildlife, reading, Earth) and tend to get absorbed into their own thoughts quite often. Because of the latter, they tend to lead themselves into executive dysfunction. Some things about them differ, however.
Starting with Vertin, most of the âobviousâ signs are present in her childhood, where she was restless and curious of the world beyond SPDM, making it difficult for her to focus in school. Yet, she still kept up with topics that interested her, going as far as skipping classes to learn in her own way.
She has gotten punished often for her âdefiance,â and ended up being radicalized by it and by the trauma she faced in Chapter 3. Currently, she masks quite heavily to a degree, leaving her main indicators to be her tactile tendencies (i.e. touching things and others out of curiosity) and her becoming absorbed to her own thoughts.
Meanwhile, Marcus is an incredibly anxious person. She often relied on someone like Hofmann to socialize with others and make decisions for her since she struggled greatly in that aspect. She can be easily upset by things and even by her own overthinking, taking rejection quite poorly before resorting to immediately coming up with ways to resolve it.
She often retreats back to reading to be able to ground herself from any stress. But now with everything thatâs happened, Marcus has begun working on herself and mustering the courage to be able to push her limits independently.
Weâre not entirely sure about how AliEn Tâs home society is structured, but it can be argued that his and our societies tend to parallel each other. For example, AliEn T is seen as a bit eccentric to his kind like the regional manager and co-workers because of him being emotionally prone and being very fixated on the Earth. (which his society collectively avoids)
A lot of his notes about his home in the anecdote imply that in his home society, they have their equivalent of some of the struggles found in the neurodivergent experience, which is why he and Officer Williams in the anecdote could empathize with each other.
Others / Related but non-diagnostic: Mesmer Jr., Isolde, Pickles, Kaalaa Baunaa, Tooth Fairy, Blonney
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5c766c61320419a521dc90ff28988abd/46bca835d5133e0f-60/s540x810/9c7e0d53b451f9a91569a35a3576e156e6efc6a8.jpg)
As I explained in the previous post, Mesmer Jr. and Isolde both greatly suffer from conditions that particularly stem from their trauma and subsequent C-PTSD.
Again, Mesmer Jr. is heavily hinted to have OCD, while Isolde has many disorders linked to C-PTSD. (formerly named as "hysteria") Due to the nature of their respective conditions, they both deserve a place here in this list.
It can be assumed that Pickles is neurodivergent due to him being nicknamed as an âindigo pup.â While this might be related to his arcane skill, the nickname is also intriguing because it's like the term âindigo children.âÂ
âIndigo childrenâ are classified as those who are incredibly intelligent and possess special talents or powers according to the New Age concept. However, this classification is closely associated with neurodivergence due to the similar descriptions.
Meanwhile, Kaalaa Baunaa, Tooth Fairy, and Blonney have shared stories in which they've had to maintain some form of distance towards their arcanist identities due to the hostile nature of their environments. They embraced it as part of themselves in the end, though.
Kaalaa Baunaa has been an avid researcher ever since she was young, and enjoys maintaining punctuality through routines. However, she had been often discriminated against in her initial workplace, where her arcanist identity had been picked out first before taking her research in consideration; even her research had been disregarded due to the âunconventionalâ methods that she applied to conduct them.
It can be considered a familiar feeling among neurodivergent people and it is incredibly frustrating when it happens. For KB, it had gotten bad to the point of her (and Kumar) getting kicked out of their institution, but it never stopped either of them from continuing to do their work.
Tooth Fairy and Blonney both grew up in mixed societies, where they had to force themselves to conform to be able to be accepted in both human and arcanist social spaces.
Tooth Fairy, while achieving this balance in her college years, had never been treated as an equal by either side due to both her arcanist identity and frequency to interact with humans. She was bullied for it and was even taken advantage of when she made the medicine in her character story. These experiences led her to accept her own identity and eventually stop overtly conforming to both societies.
Blonney meanwhile moved to a predominantly human society, where she greatly conformed to human ideals and trends to âfit inâ with the humans. But she was still off-handedly discriminated against due to simply just being an arcanist. She tried really hard to suppress herself, to the point that she dimmed her own âlightâ and was unable to use her personalized arcane skill. But when she came back to Green Lake, her mask slowly fell apart, and then it reignited her passion, which allowed her to begin accepting herself again.
Honorable Mentions
Sonetto, Matilda, Sotheby, Ezra, Jessica - Autism (mainly credited from: @/H0LOdm on twt)
While these are mainly headcanon, some of these characters here do display neurodivergent traits in their own ways, most especially the latter 3 of these characters here. They all struggle to pick up social cues and tend to struggle in (conventionally) socializing/empathizing with others.
Sotheby and Jessica in particular both lace their language using their interests and the environment they grew up in. Ezra also uses his interests in fungi as a conversation starter with others, eager to see any mushrooms that might be potentially found anywhere.
Final Notes and Thanks
When I started writing these down I didn't really think much of it outside of the fact that there were so many characters who were particularly neurodivergent, which then further extended to the rest of the disabled characters as well. I tried my best to word these as respectfully as I can, and that I hope people could find fun in reading these as much as I did writing them.
I give my acknowledgements to these people for their help and support for the creation of list in entirety: Jager, Lupjo, Reg, Bee ( @e-0timely ) , Abyss ( @abyss-idiot ), and Tokki
Considering the nature of this list, I want to say that are non-conclusive and can be interpreted in any way you want. As I said in my previous version of this post, "...Every experience is different, and I think these characters here openly show that."
Feel free to add your own insights, corrections, and even your own headcanons here. Thanks for reading, and have the two links to the first two lists down here.

Character Developments and Parallels in Chapter 103 (1): Twilight and his performance
[Manga Spoilers alert]
As everybody knows, Ch.103 is the real 100th chapter since Ch.3 is the first chapter in which the Forgers became a family. There are a lot of callbacks between these two chapters. What do the callbacks tell us about character developments? What has changed?
Ch.3 shows us how Twilight really operates as a spy - he observes as Twilight and performs as Loid. He is both the spectator and the spectacle. Being a good spy, for Twilight, means the two roles align perfectly with each other.
While it is true that the three constantly acted as an audience in ch.3 (in an opera house, an art museum, or a political rally), what Twilight really wants to show off is their identifications of being a part of these audiences. The audience is then also the performer. Being an audience in Ch.3 is a preparation for being a performer in Ch.4.
In Ch.3, the major conflict is that he is a spy, a cool liar and a good actor, while Yor and Anya are not. When Loid gets anxious about the family's performance, Yor decides to take Loid and Anya to the park.
They retreat to a place where they could take a step back, shed their roles as performers and observe the crowd as spectators. She shows Twilight the place which "reminds her to get back to work" for the sake of the people while staying away from the crowd, She reminds him what his work is really about.
This happens again in Ch.103.
But the thing is, ch.103 is not really about work. Rather, Yor reminds Twilight of something opposite of work. She reminds him that it's totally fine to let go and not think about work.
As opposed to ch.3, which is about work.
Ch.3 is set in crowded places. Twilight doesn't want to stand out but he needs the crowds. As a spy, he needs the affirmation from others that his pretend family is convincing. He gets what he wants in chapter 3 by getting the affirmation he needs from a random person he saves.
The fact is throughout the whole story he has been stressing the importance of playing a convincing part in front of the others (ch.29, 47, 67).
Before Ch.75, we see a clear pattern in Twilight's performance as Loid, namely "for the mission", an excuse that allows Twilight to align his two roles (spy vs father/husband) with each other. Ch.75 is a watershed. There is a crowd, and for the first time, Twilight refuses to perform for the crowd. Or us. He refuses to give us his thoughts about his observations. Instead, he starts to offer excuses to his colleagues. He did it again in ch.86.
And after that, again, in ch.87, we see a tired and wounded Twilight hiding in his bedroom, refusing to perform for us. The fact is, he no longer even uses the "for the mission" as an excuse for himself. He no longer talks to us, the readers, hiding the answers even from his thoughts. He starts to find his own faults in his performances - Loid should act according to Twilight's will, but what if Twilight's wrong?
Ch.94 is interesting in a way that for the first time, it's not about aligning the two roles, Twilight and Loid. He's still "performing" as Loid but he's not thinking about the mission at all. He's not trying to be a spy.
What makes ch.103 very special is the absence of the crowds. Becky appeared for a moment and left quickly. Endo deliberately created a private sphere in a public space. There was no audience to perform to, so there was no need to perform. There seemed to be a mission - to find and observe Belle, but they were not actively looking for Belle. They were not trying to get Stella starts out of Belle. Different from what he did in ch.94, he's not using any of his skillset. He listened to Yor, sat and waited.
He no longer feels the need to perform in front of Yor. Echoing ch.86 in which Yor tells him he doesn't need to "be so perfect", as a response to Yor's suggestion about Belle, he just tells her about his "fault/weakness": "Waiting idly isn't what I'm great at either."
If his self-reflection in ch.14 and 35 could be interpreted as his attempt to fix something, he really didn't need to share this piece of info in ch.103 at all. He is a very private person. He doesn't talk about himself, not even to Franky. But it seems that he likes talking to Yor. He opens up to her.
He knows he doesn't need to perform in front of Yor, and that allows Twilight to make an attempt to relax.
The massive walls of texts (the ones while he thinks) disappeared as he tried "to not think for a while, to not worry for a while, to just relax and let go". Endo chose to draw a space that is empty of crowds and buildings. For a moment, it was just the four of them enjoying themselves.
For a moment, he's not Twilight [as a spy] or Loid [as a husband/father]. He's just [redacted].
He relaxed. And for the first time, he didn't faint (or die). This is the biggest character development of Twilight, really.
And therefore, this is the perfect 100th chapter.

To add onto your point about Viktor pushing people away I think this is shown a lot through his interactions with Sky. When they first meet as kids she clearly takes interest and wants to talk but he looks down to gesture to his boat when she is called away. He believes that it is his destiny to be lonely. Shortly after when meeting Singed, Singed asks âwhy arenât you playing with the other kids,â and Viktor steps out from behind a rock to show him his leg. Singedâs response is a double edged sword because he says that âloneliness is often a byproduct of a gifted mind,â on one hand he is calling Viktor intelligent and implying that his disability isnât what makes him lonely, however Singed still essentially reinforces the idea that Viktor is inherently going to be lonely because of his mind.
Later (in life, technically itâs earlier in the show) she flirts with him and he surprisingly refers to her by her last name only despite knowing each other for so long. This act pushes her away, especially at a time when he probably did need to ask for help as he had just coughed up blood earlier in the episode and passes out not long after she leaves. While I do not think he harbors any romantic feelings for Sky both the way she shows interest with him as a kid and as an adult proves Singed wrong. She doesnât find his intelligence isolating, she admires him for it and wants to get closer but Viktor has put up a wall because heâs already internalized that loneliness is a byproduct of his existence.
She also does not even hesitate to try pull him off the hexcore when she has no idea what it is.
Viktor is often shown with themes of loneliness but it is contrasted with the fact that he is constantly around people that would move heaven and earth for him if he asked. This really shows that the internalized loneliness that makes him push people away and refuse to be selfish is also tragic because he and Singed are wrong. He does face a more difficult time being a disabled zaunite in Piltover for sure, but pushing out those who wish to be close is a fate he curated himself since he believes itâs how it has to be.
I think you said it very well!
One thing I love about having the full Arcane story with S2 is that we can really dig deep and analyze who these characters are now.
I'd argue Viktor came across as pretty... flaw-free in S1. He's still complex, but most of the problems he faces seem to come from issues outside his control, like his disability and his terminal illness.
I think S2 brought into focus what Viktor's flaws are, including his intellectual tunnel vision and, as you noted, his tendency to think himself lonely when he is the one constantly pushing people away, perhaps as a result of that awful line Singed fed him when he was a kid. (Silco and Singed are both great examples of damaged adults trying to help the children in their life, teaching them the lessons they learned, but in so doing scarring those children with their own issues and pain because their situations actually aren't parallels.)
So much of what Viktor does in S2 revolves around loneliness. Normally, I think such loneliness plots would be about someone finding love for the first time, or learning to love themselves despite it. But the strength and quality of Viktor's loneliness story, what I think brings it closer to a more realistic story, is that it takes two to tango. He's projecting rejection onto others like Jayce that isn't there. He's thinking he needs to isolate himself and even as a child to play alone, even though Sky was right there taking an interest. He was just too obsessed with his work (admittedly, work that would save him from a terminal illness so like, I feel him on this) to see that he was letting the life he had pass him by, or that there were people trying to help him, who were actively helping him if he just looked around.
He does it in 2.02 to Jayce too, by the way. Regardless of Hexcore influence, he chooses "the Mission" of securing a legacy over the friend who is right here beside him, offering help, who has come back to Viktor after Viktor chastised him for leaving his side. Jayce listened and he's back now, but Viktor is now so consumed by guilt of the other person he ignored that he's missing the loved one he's ignoring right now.
Viktor then builds this commune of people that sure as hell looks like a wall he's building against loneliness. He speaks with their voices, they are of one mind, they share their emotions, and yet Viktor still self-isolates there, spending his time with the hallucination of Sky, set apart from the other cultists in his giant bubble on the hill, making them look up to him like angels singing praises to God. And that too is lonely. It's not true connection. And by making everyone into One, it's still loneliness, it's still his old patterns. Combining everyone into one person with one will so they can never leave you (no one is ever shown leaving the commune, btw, all foot traffic flows inward) still ends up with him alone in the homogenous soup of everyone he turned into him.
Wizard Viktor is another example of this behavior, the ultimate conclusion of it, why he needs Jayce to get through to him. Only Jayce can show Viktor that his loneliness is in his own head, it's a product of his own behavior, he is pushing people away and ignoring them and then being upset when they're not there, and then when they come back he pushes them away again in favor of "the mission" in favor of "legacy", and even if it's in favor of finding a cure for himself, he pushes away people who are trying to help him with that. And he doesn't let Jayce in on the fact he's dying which is another example of not letting people who love him help him with his most important mission of saving his own life.
This is getting way too long lol but ok:
TL;DR One of Viktor's flaws is self-imposed loneliness that still makes him lash out at others and ultimately leads to some of his most heinous crimes like the assimilation of the cultists and attempt to make everyone into One Being, which is still the same behavior of self isolation, and that's why only Jayce can get through to him that he was loved the whole time and he's only lonely because he keeps ignoring his loved ones and pushing them away.

I have a terrible memory and haven't watched RWBY since Vol 9 ended. Did anything happen between Blake and Yang that was remarkable?
Here's an example from other ships: Aneela x Kendry â Aneela slaughtered hullen to find Kendry, Aneela tortured Gander for Kendry, Kendry carried and raised Aneelaâs child, Aneela shared her green with Kendry to make her immortal again, they rule Qresh together Adora x Catra â They kept each other alive in the Horde, Catra sacrificed herself to save Glimmer for Adora, Adora rescued Catra from Horde Prime, Adora used her magic to bring Catra back from the dead, they saved the universe with their love
I know Yang lost her arm but I don't know if it was something she did for Blake and I know the punderstorm created the platform and bridge so they could confess their love but I don't know whether to include that because it wasn't something either of them did.
Okay so basically they're partners. Blake chose Yang as her partner, and Yang is a parallel to Adam, her previous lover and partner too, a better version of him, which is very interesting: to see the fact that Yang was a character foil to Adam from the start. It makes her dynamic with Blake very interesting. Yang is also a person with huge abandonment issues, so her Love Interest being a girl who thought of herself as toxic and ran away because of that makes their dynamic very interesting and complex. And then there's what happened in volume 3 during the Battle of Beacon is that Blake separated from Weiss and ended up confronting Adam, you know, her abusive ex boyfriend. Adam kept guiltripping her as you know and told her that he would make it his mission to destroy everything Blake loved. Then Yang, who'd talked to Weiss and was searching for Blake, showed up calling for her. Adam saw the way Blake looked at her, connected the dots and said he was gonna start by destroying Yang. Then he stabbed Blake to get Yang's attention and Yang went red eyed and jumped to defend Blake with no second thoughts telling Adam to get away from her. Then Adam takes his chance and cut Yang's arm off. Would've killed her, too, if Blake hadn't rushed to get the both of them out of there âwhile being wounded herself. So, basically, kinda yeah. Yang lost her arm trying to protect Blake and that gut cut her arm off out of jealousy and because he wanted to torment Blake. Cue Blake leaving because she felt guilty, coming back two volumes later after both she and Yang went through interesting character arcs and them trying to rebuild their relationship throughout all v6, and then fighting Adam again, together, and ending him. Some of their biggest moments yeah. That and when Yang fell in v8 and Blake failed to catch her and thought she'd lost her and called out Yang's name and fucking lost it having to be held back by Weiss from jumping too and then immediately trying to kill Neo with zero hesitation since she was the one who pushed Yang. They have some very remarkable and memorable moments.
Also, their eyes are canonically the color of each other's soul so it's fucking cute

Trinity Head canon
Clark is the tallest at 6â3, Bruce is not far behind at 6â2 and Diana is 6â1.5.
Clark has a southern drawl. Heâs been in the city for years, but sometimes it comes out when heâs angry or certain words will bring it out. Diana and Lois find it adorable.
Speaking of which Bruce has a thick Jersey accent but does have some British vocabulary that he uses like lift or tap instead of elevator or faucet.
Diana can speak the most languages, with Bruce behind her. She secretly taught him many forgotten languages, he enjoyed this time they spent. It was mostly when the first met.
When the two come to the manor they each have a favorite tea that Alfred or really Bruce will make. Clark likes Chamomile tea and Diana likes Oolong. Bruce himself prefers green tea.
The amount of last minute saves Clark and Diana have had to do to get Bruce out of harms way is crazy. They have a tally system that Barbara keeps track of. Clark is ahead by five points.
Bruce has planned out his affairs in case he dies. Again. Damian would go into Clark and Loisâ care he figures Jon would help him a lot during this time. When he was younger if something happened to him or Alfred Dick was also supposed to go to Clark. And had Jason lived during his younger years he was originally going to Clark but he changed it to Diana a few weeks before he passed away.
Diana drops by every Sunday to feed and play with the animals. Damian has grown fond of his aunt Dianaâs visits.
Aside from Bruce, Alfred and Barbara Clark is the only other person who knows how feral and intense Dickâs run as Robin was.
Diana is usually the one to lead the league or a mission. Bruce has always felt she was better at leading the charge, though she thinks the opposite and just feels sheâs doing whatâs needed in the moment.
We have established that Bruce is a terrible cook. Diana is far worse as when she first invited the two over to her apartment she was making a casserole she kept hearing about. Clark had to put out the fire and Bruce payed off the fire marshal. Clark can cook four dishes; Beef stew, a traditional country breakfast, apple pie and Chili. Heâs trying to expend his recipes but the other two enjoy the options.
The trio get together twice a month for a night on the town. Theyâve only had three successful nights out where they didnât need to save the city.
Once a year Diana and Clark force Bruce to take a week long vacation. The Batkids watch over Gotham, and Kara watches Metropolis.
They usually go to an island off the coast of Greece that Diana discovered. She has to mother Bruce about sunscreen because he burns like paper.
Clark enjoys surfing and snorkeling. Bruce will broad for the first two days then heâll loosen up.
Diana and Clark each have a favorite thing about the Batcave. Clark loves the giant penny and Diana is always found staring at the T-Rex.
Speaking of which, Diana is banned from driving the Batmobile nether Bruce or Diana will explain why, but Clark is chuckling about the situation.
Clark had filled in for Bruce five times. Three times as Batman and twice as Bruce Wayne using his voice.
Tim and Damian are the only Robins to work with Clark as Batman and they both enjoyed having rogues confused as to why their usual tricks didnât affect Batman.
Clark sometimes had doubts about being a beacon of Hope when they first formed the League. It was Batman they gave him a word of advice, though Bruce still denies it till this day.
Diana once caught Bruce with her lasso, she questioned him about why he was so interested in it, he never told her why but she thinks itâs because itâs the only thing that has forced the truth out of him.
Clark can drive a stick shift, Diana canât parallel park.
Diana is actually a good mechanic, sheâs worked on a few of the aircraft at the Watchtower.
Each of the Trinity has a favorite duo to team up with. Clark likes to work with Martian Manhunter and Atom, Diana likes to work with Vixen and Black Canary, and Bruce once again wonât attempt it but he likes to work with Green Lantern (Hal) and the Flash (Barry).
Bruce doesnât have perfect vision as he leads people to believe. He had glass since he was ten, and has had LASIK three times.
Diana will sometimes braid the Batkids hair. She loves Duke and Timâs hair the most. She sometimes will scold Dick about his longer hair because she knows heâll never tend to it properly.

A VERY long theory post on how Miraculous might handle the possibility of Marinette losing her memories, based on⌠90s Sailor Moon!
So I am a HUGE fan of 90s Sailor Moon, and itâs pretty well known that the show serves as a huge inspiration for Miraculous alongside other shows! Anyway, they have an amnesia arc at the start of the 2nd story arc of that show, and seeing the Marinette amnesia crumb planted in the latest ml episode, as well as the fact weâre in the 2nd story arc of ml, I have a sneaking suspicion that sailor moonâs amnesia arc can be drawn from for speculation on anything they might do with Marinette!
BIG spoilers for Sailor Moon below, and without further ado, here we go:
SO, letâs start with a summary of everything that happens in 1st arc of Sailor Moon that provides necessary context of the amnesia arc. You can skip past this section to the parts in pink that have the actual theory if you want, but this context helps make things less confusing:
1) Usagi gets assigned to be a sailor guardian by this cat called Luna (You can see her as a mix of Tikki and Master Fu, but she mostly serves the same role as Tikki in the show), and throughout the season other girls get assigned to be sailor guardians and they become part of this big ass friend group.

2) Meanwhile, Usagi and her love interest, Mamoru, hate each other in their civilian forms throughout the season, but as heroes she had a big crush on him as his persona âTuxedo Maskâ, who would come and save her if she was having trouble in a fight. In other words, lowkey og love square but if they were enemies as civilians:

3) Anyway, this all comes together at the end of the first arc where Usagi and Momoru have a reveal (quicker than miraculous, I know) and in turn find out they were the moon princess and earth prince in a past life. After this reveal, Mamoru gets mind controlled by the villain and turns evil, and when everyone going on a mission to save him and defeat the big villain, it ends with EVERYONE EXCEPT USAGI DYING. She has to use a power to defeat the villain that causes her to die as well, but not before she MAKES A WISH FOR HER AND HER FRIENDS TO HAVE A NORMAL LIFE THAT REWRITES THE UNIVERSE, causing the arc to end with EVERYONEâS MEMORIES WIPED, INCLUDING USAGI.

Already, Iâm sure you can see the similarities that are arising, but onto the 2nd arc + how I think this will tie together:
During the 2nd arc, we start with basically a refresh of the show with Usagi having her memories wiped as per the wish, but due to evil arising once more, LUNA (who, again, I compared to tikki) has to restore her memories to have her fight evil again. Usagi then wants to restore the others memories desperately so that she wonât be alone, but doesnât want them to give up their normal lives and be put in harms way. Also, she tries to get Mamoru to fall in love with her again, but since he lost his memories, he doesnât like her anymore, like he did at the start of season one:

So what do I think will happen? I donât necessarily think EVERYONEâs memories will be wiped like in sailor moon, nor will a wish to rewrite the universe be involved, at least not YET. BUT, I do think that the reveal will happen, Marinette will lose her memories after a fight (possibly in a fight involving evil Adrien like in the Sailor Moon), and then Alya, Adrien, and Tikki will be hesitant to restore her memories when all is said and done because she has finally become a NORMAL GIRL, with a NORMAL LIFE, and they donât want to take that from her.
THE PHRASING OF THE INTRO BEING SOOO SIMILAR TO USAGIâS WISH IN SAILOR MOON IS CRAZY, and idk it feels like this could be such a cool idea, especially if by this point the public has turned on the old ladybug for lying and they want to try and spare Marinette from that! IT ALSO PARALLELS MARINETTE SHIELDING ADRIEN FOR HIS PROTECTION, WITH HER NOW ON THE RECEIVING END (itâs worth noting Mamoru being left in the dark is a big thing sailor moon season one as well, no so much an insecurity of his but bro doesnât know anythingggg compared to Usagi for awhile).
THIS WOULD ALSO PROLONG REVEAL SHENANIGANS LIKE IT DID IN SAILOR MOON !! Again, Usagi had to try and make Mamoru fall in love with her again without telling him anything, and this becomes the man focus of the first arc of the season!!! (Mamoru also has a part of him that gets separated from his physical form and becomes an alternate version of tuxedo mask to protect her despite his memory loss, but I donât think theyâll rope that in lol.)
Guys I know this is a little out there and INSANE but I am SO convinced of this at least being mirrored a LITTLE bit in the show, especially since, as you can see, a LOT was pulled from this show already for miraculous. Hereâs to the crazy amnesia arc we might get that might break our hearts⌠Iâm sat! (also watch sailor moon bc clearly if youâre a miraculous fan youâll LOVE it).
