Okay i saw this on TikTok and omg how can you interpret a character so badly, how can you watch this show and think of Mickey as some ‘angry gay dude’ who distracts everyone from Ian’s actual storyline.

He has such an insane backstory and is such a deep character who goes through so much development and even though he doesn’t have much screen time compared to everyone else his story still matters so much and he totally helps Ian so much.

He is SUCH a complex character and idk how people can’t see that:

He had a father who beat the shit out of him his whole life and called him a pussy for having feelings and then tried to kill him because he was gay - all of which MASSIVELY affected the rest of his life because he struggled to open up to people and communicate his feelings and struggled to deal with his anger issues and the repercussions from his previous life and beliefs that were forced on him by his dad.

The same father got a hooker to rape him at gun point to “fuck the faggot out of him” after finding him with his boyfriend and pistol whipping them.

He ended up with a kid conceived through rape (not her fault either) that he had to care and help provide for while also caring for his boyfriend who just got diagnosed with bipolar and was going through all sorts of shit at 17/18 years old.

He was forced into marrying a woman - the same woman who was made to rape him and is the mother to his child, who he doesn’t like being around and for a good reason (who would want to have to see the face of the person who did that to you/was in that situation with you every day - even if it wasn’t her fault).

He wasn’t in control of his own life because his dad would KILL him if he let himself be gay and he knew that.

His dad beat him to the point where he had such bad internalised homophobia that he’d beat up other people for being gay (knowing that that’s what would happen to him if he ever came out).

His mum left him (or died or whatever we think happened to her) and his siblings with a RASICT, HOMPHOBIC, PEDO (those scenes with Mandy and Debbie), RAPIST, SEXIST and all the other -ists dad.

His dad got put (back) in jail for breaking his parole (he was out for 4 hours) trying to kill Mickey and Ian after Mick came out to him in The Alibi.

Within one and a bit seasons (when he was only around 18 years old) he went from sneaking around with his boyfriend who he pretended not to like because if he did he’d be gay and that’s wrong, to being forced into a marriage with a woman and a child which he didn’t want or consent to and got beat the shit out of for coming out, living and supporting his wife, child and his bf who was either manic or depressed or in the psych ward while HIS DAD was in jail FOR TRYING TO KILL HIM.

Feel free to add to my rant proving that Mickey is so insanely complex and amazing.

my roman empire is whatever the heck shameless writers were on when writing ian’s lover interests after mickey’s incarceration. if they wanted us to hate him (as if) why did they make his partners so shitty to him? like caleb told ian to grow up cause ian was worried not getting the job due to his bipolar??? caleb saying ‘push past it’ like bro you are so damn privileged to think a mental illness is something you can just brush off like that, what are we taking meds for when we have our lord and saviour caleb saying it’s no big deal!

and trevor giving no shit that ian was having an episode? oh ian you seem off your meds you alright mate? no? oh okay i don’t give a fuck i tried keep it up you do you i was just your boyfriend and work as a freaking social service i surely know that ignoring the problem and getting angry at someone mentally unstable is the way to go!

they wrote all that without gallavich being endgame in mind, did they hate ian that much??? only one who never got scared to stop ian (the knife scene, the funeral, the guns) and insists he needs meds (pushing him on the wall so he wouldn’t leave, suggesting to call the cops on him so force his recovery, calming him down during hallucinations, not making him feel ashamed for them, getting him meds and so on) has always been mickey and only mickey.

they saw each others at their worst and their best and thought yeah i wanna spend the rest of my life with this person???????????

i wonder if they would have made ian end up miserable with someone who doesn’t care about his mental health if mickey didn’t come back??? god to be a fly on the wall in that writing room

the whole family has sunday night dinners and lip’s every week. but, eventually ian and mickey get their own little house and ian reallyyyy wants to host everyone a couple times a month. mickey is pretty indifferent and would prefer if the whole gallagher clan didnt invade his one space without them bUT he knows it would make ian happy so he complies. he’s annoyed by it at first, but once he sees ian getting all frantic before everyone arrives and the smile he wears the whole night as everyone is all together in his home…mickey suddenly thinks it’s the best idea ian’s ever had and wouldn’t mind it becoming a weekly thing

Humid Fantasy - Galladrabbles #150

Summer was always the best part of the year.

The season promised sweat-salted skin and smoke smelling shirts – it was Gallagher with his tanned freckles; grinning and gasping. They became tangled into each other’s lives alongside his trips to juvie. Looking back, that period of his life was succinctly book-ended by bullet wounds.

But as the weather cooled and the leaves yellowed, the humid fantasy began to rot under his teenage skull. It festered alongside the dread and ice-cold paranoia; the city was about to be dark and desperate. Mickey thought that Autumn looked an awful lot like his Dad.

A break was the exam season grind for some @galladrabbles with @millenium-time-machine’s prompt: Autumn.

This drabble spiraled from thinking about Mickey’s acceptance of his dad's control – the quiet surrender of anything other than masculine and mean because that’s what he understood as survival. His view of Terry’s will as something unwinnable and inevitable - like seasons.

To me, early season gallavich is always summer.

The fuck? Is Gallagher slow, on top of everything else? Mickey doesn’t stop, keeps striding deeper into the woods.

“You said the prophecy was made two hundred years ago…”

“One eighty-seven,” Mickey grumbles.

“You mean…the Oracle who made the prophecy is still alive?” Gallagher asks. “That he still ‘remembers,’ present tense?”

“I sure hope Iggy’s still alive, fucker needs to confirm something for me.”

When they meet Iggy in his cottage, he’s high as fuck (typical) — but he recognises Gallagher.

“My Wildfire! My Inferno!” he bellows, pulling a shocked Gallagher into a hug. “Mick, you found him!”
