Mii Lore: I Want Die

As concerning as his name is, I Want Die is a pretty cool guy. He was created by Mr Rumble Tumble Raniel Taniel Daniel RT Game on the Wii on 21 October 2018 for Wii Sports Resort.

I Want Die was created to be a mii who looks like he wants to die and not play any kind of sports. Over the years, however, I Want Die has become much more than his severe depression, having starred as the protagonist of both of RT’s Miitopia playthroughs and being somewhat of a mascot for the Rumble Tumble channel.

I Want Die has made it so far, in fact, that he is featured in multiple pieces of merchandise. Not only was he a YouTooz, but he has also been a pin badge, on multiple posters, and is now even a marketable plushie. What a life.

I Want Die is a Former Father. we don’t know who his son is.

There’s an insane amount of I Want Die lore that I couldn’t possibly write out in the time frame i have until the end of the day, so instead this is a link to the RTGame wiki so you can learn all about him. Personally, I learned he was implied to be in a relationship with Gay Obama in Miitopia (3DS), which makes me feel a little mean for that being his Round 2 fight.

CHARACTERS:

Childe (Ajax): In his last year of university as an international business major. He was offered a full-ride scholarship as a varsity swim athlete. At first, he had no intentions of taking swimming seriously, but winning medals and experiencing the thrill of competitions became his high. He quickly became U of T’s swim captain, winning people left and right thanks to his extroverted nature.

Thoma: A hospitality management major, referred to as a mysterious, yet friendly guy. He’s always ready to help others but refuses to be helped. He’s the friend who drops random lore about his life story growing up. All they know is that he was born in Mondstadt, but grew up in Inazuma. They don’t even know that you, his younger sister, exist. It’s not a secret, he just never bothered telling them. No one asked after all.

Diluc: When his father passed, he was determined to graduate as a business major to inherit his father’s business. Now he’s in his senior year of university; the student council president; and the campus’ sought-after bachelor. He may seem refined to others but he can be a menace. He and Childe met in their 1st year of Uni on Valorant. Diluc happened to flame Childe during the match. Childe loved the competition and added the red-head. It took them 5 months of duo queuing to figure out they attended the same school.

Kaeya: A 4th-year aeronautics major. As a kid, he grew fascinated with planes. The 1st time he rode one was with his adopted father and Diluc. The flight attendants and pilot’s welcoming gazes signified a new beginning. From there, he vowed to be a pilot who brings smiles to travelers. In the meantime, he works part-time for an ice skating rink, helping with deliveries and training.

Kaveh: The beloved architecture major. Sleep is not in his vocabulary. Although, alcohol is. He is very passionate about his studies to the point that his friends have to remind him to relax once in a while. Although, there are still days when they can’t contact him – the best way is through his roommate. Since Kaveh is always busy, he doesn’t have time to earn extra money. Instead, he’s anticipating for an unpaid internship once he graduates.

SYNOPSIS: There’s a line Childe knows he shouldn’t cross; A line built on years of friendship; A line that happens to cross you, his best friend’s younger sister, grieving her first love; A line where he plays savior, wears a halo, then feign ignorance, because love is a game for fools—and he happens to be the biggest idiot when it comes to love.

When a new stranger invades your life and an old poet writes back.

anyways. so heres chat my beloved. brain decided twitch chat was most important character ever. now im stuck like this, with a little purple hivemind as a comfort. wonderful. i even have a roblox avatar of them it looks like this

isnt it awesome. it barely looks like them but it gets the point across. i love it. it makes me so happy. they make me so happy. for no reason. i love how my design of them has evolved over time.

have i ever shown them without robes to tumblr? they have black fur under the robes! entirely black! the white parts only go to their joints! isnt that so awesome? that part of the design is kind of a remnant from their old designs, where i still drew them with a hat. cuz they would hide the black fur and pretend it was all white. to match the mask of course. and of course now the dark fur is on display. because i decided fuck it i love drawing fluff they can be a little fluffy as a treat.

and also, if you look at older drawings, they used to have shoes. why get rid of them? 1. paws too big to fit in the shoes 2. i didnt want to draw shoes 3. i like drawing paws. fight me.

is this the most self indulgent ive ever been publically about them? maybe. but also this is my blog. and if you're as insane about rttopia as me youll take any art you can get, whether it appeals to your views or not. this is what 3 years of a special interest encompassing every single aspect of your life does to a mf. you get a chat design so far removed from the original mii its insane. and i wouldnt have it any other way. i love them like this, with all my headcanons stacked and piled so high the top cannot be seen with the naked eye. i hope in the future it gets even higher, with my designs getting more complex as more lore and love is poured into these characters, until eventually theyre unrecognizable. power of autism.

ok hear me out: AU where all the smash fighters not explicitly killed in the World of Light opening cutscene somehow survive and have to take on their post-apocalyptic world together

a comprehensive list on which smash fighters died in Galeem's initial attack:

the "not seen killed but there IS a body" tier is for characters who we don't see vaporized by galeem's light but are clearly visible in the scene with all the puppet fighters. I tried my best but that scene is REALLY dark with the only visible light being the glowing eyes so if you can point to a puppet fighter and say "that's X, you can tell because of their Y" I'll take them off the survivor tier

making this tierlist made me realize how few characters we see actually killed. not shulk? not fox? not THE MARIO BROTHERS??? (obviously mario is the one who we see puppeted but we never see his actual death and that surprised me)

and if we count the DLC fighters and Kirby that's a total of 52 survivors of Galeem's attack and that's a lot so to make it more bite-sized i split them up into groups like how you see people group up in zombie movies. they're also grouped by theme!

Have some lore for them, too! Beware my severe bias towards a few groups.

"The Survivor" - Kirby! Survived Galeem's initial attack by temporarily warping to a different dimension.

"The Littles" - Bowser Jr, the Ice Climbers, Little Mac, Pichu, Olimar and Alph, Ness, Lucas, Isabelle, and Meta Knight. These fighters are all children or physically small in some way. They all attempted to use the rocks and mountain faces as cover against the initial attack, but lost their footing and fell off the cliff as Galeem's rays destroyed it. Little Mac caught Pichu and tried to shield her with his own body as they fell.

Olimar and Alph were saved by their Winged Pikmin, Meta Knight saved himself with his wings, Isabelle caught herself with the balloons from her Up Special, and Bowser Jr. used the propeller of his Koopa Clown Car. Olimar and Alph caught Popo and Nana, Lucas grabbed Bowser Jr. with Rope Snake, Meta Knight caught Ness, and Isabelle caught Mac (and Pichu by extension).

By the time they had reached the bottom of the valley, Galeem was so distracted with trying to annihilate Kirby that he didn't notice that The Littles were still alive. They survived the universe-consuming blast by hiding out in a cave, since that blast seemingly did not affect the terrain.

"The Nobles" - Peach, Daisy, Chrom, King Dedede, Ganondorf, Corrin, King K. Rool, Lucina, Roy, and Marth. These fighters are all royalty or have noble blood flowing through their veins.

"The Perserverers" - Cloud, Ike, Ken, Simon, Richter, Ryu, Robin, Luigi, the Miis, Wario, and Shulk. Okay I'll be honest there's no theme with this one. I originally wanted Incineroar in this group and the theme to be they all had jobs that had to do with kicking people's asses but then there was Luigi and Wario and all the other guys and I just threw the theme out the window lol.

"The Non-Humans" - Incineroar, Wolf, Dark Samus, Yoshi, R.O.B, Pac-Man, Ridley, Donkey Kong, and Mr. Game & Watch. These fighters are all non-human. Game & Watch and Pac-Man survived by simply being too Flat but I'm unsure how the others would have escaped.

"The Newcomers" - Piranha Plant, Joker, Hero, Banjo and Kazooie, Terry, Byleth, Min-Min, Steve, Sephiroth, Pyra and Mythra, Kazuya, and Sora. These fighters are the DLC characters. Survived Galeem's initial attack by virtue of being in a different dimension when it happened. Pulled through time and space to the World of Light, they band together to find a way back to their home dimensions (although for some, this team-up happened very begrudgingly).

I don't know much about some of these franchises, so I'm welcome to suggestions to help me develop this AU! Seriously I am on my hands and knees BEGGING for suggestions because so far the only group that is developed is The Littles 😭

THAT'S A VERY GOOD QUESTION!

Alright, Caro here to explain the lore! (Took me a bit to think about how to integrate the whole thing together to make sense, but I think I got it down!)

Miitopia and Tomadachi Life are part of different islands, but not in the expected way.

For Tomadachi Life, it's the equivalent of a soap opera show for the Miis in the other islands, and the Miis in Tomadachi Island are actors in a sense. Multiple seasons aired and nowadays Miis can also purchase the game version of this and put in whichever character they'd like in this! With that, the added factor of taking care of the Miis on their own version of the island made it possible for more interactions and funny things to happen.

For Miitopia, it's actually coming from old legends from the Miitopia Island about heroes and magic, and in turn it inspired the Miis to make a game! A tabletop DnD style game! The Game Master would set it up for the players, and each Mii playing would have to choose their character’s roles. Of course, the GM changes the Miis that aren't playable all the time, which ends up with a lot of goofiness throughout the game. It got so popular amongst the Miis that they basically made a whole video game about it!

So yes, both game modes and islands are known to the Miis! ^w^

No-Face; Spirited Away:

Aside from the general off putting nature that is THIS character, the way it really reminds me of "Builder" is the scary smile and personality of adapting to so many different environments while never really fitting in. Which is quite similar to "Builder"

Frieren; Frieren Beyond Journey's End:

Frieren as a character has a hard time understand human emotions and how the short lived species of humans make an impact on her, and oh did they ever make an impact. The whole point of her journey- without getting super spoilery- is just kinda... understanding emotions and how special the people she knew and knows are to her? At least from my perspective ahsfsduif I dunno! BUT! I think that really fits with "Builder". She does not understand people, and emotions are often flying over her head, but her absolute desire to understand and care she could have for someone makes me draw the connection.

Ditto; Pokemon:

Ditto, the Pokemon that copies and mimics others but is never fully able to pass as the other. It is very... similar to my sweet baby "Builder"

Wall-e; Wall-E:

Wall-e is a simple lil guy, with the absolute dedication to doing his job cause it's all he knows, but he goes from a mindless little robot to a character rich lil man who likes lightbulbs and the pretty Eve and I think.. that is what "Builder" will become!

Kanna; Inuyasha:

Kanna was a creature created by an evil stinky man who says she has no heart. She's a blank canvas and only does what she is told. No emotions, no thoughts other than to listen. She is nothing... and she realizes this at a point and turns around the best she can with what time she has left. I think "Builder" has the similar mindset of 'Listen don't question' but will come to the realization that oh my gosh she is not who she pretends to be or thinks she is portraying. I dunno there was a line the character used that was like

"I have... I have nothing. I have nothing."

And that stuck with me

Shiro; Deadman Wonderland:

OK SO LIKE HEAR ME OUT?? "Builder" is definitely not like... sane? For lack of better words lol. She was raised in a similar way to Shiro and Shiro is definitely not the epitome of sanity wheeze. I mainly draw the connection between them with the view on romance and also how "Builder" would turn out in a 'bad end' sorta way?

i havent gushed on this blog. all i do is go insane. so im using my once in a million chance to gush about...... a mii character.

first some backstory. im... using the smash 4 and ultimate designs. this is when he's younger, perhaps like 19~23 years old? im changing the lore to smash itself to have a 10+ timeskip between the games. which doesnt make sense cause the characters dont age. but for this, i can do w/e i want. and the idea of like taking care of the younger characters until theyre older is very sweet to my tiny brain. so properly. im only going from brawl -> ultimate. i'll use ness as an example. brawl: 13 yr olds (canon) 4: possibly around 14? i like to think not a lot of time passed since then since there wasn't a big, major story in that game. ultimate: some peace until the story like, so around 23 yrs old but that's how i imagine how the ages would for my timeline. obviously not shipping with them and everything. i need this done properly for my mii ship. (this is so embarassing anyway)

this is the current design and ship i have. he's around 33~ here. obviously trained so much more and is more serious. (plus he grew out his hair.....cute) he's more serious because he kinda just sucked at fighting before. and now... hes actually able to keep up with the others! i ended up naming him, nguyễn minh. anyway. hes my silly little guy who gets flustered easily and he wants to be as strong as the others. although he's one of the few ones who takes all this smash fighting nonsense a little too seriously. :3

my insert, mii mage, (still naming him) joined in smash 4 and liked to jokingly flirt with him and everything which made him really shy and nervous. and he tried to flirt back. but then he went into super training mode and he specifically just asked my insert to wait for him... and mage did! he waited 10 years for him because he didn't mind it at all.

so when the two of them meet up again with so many others. he brings this shitty bouquet and everything. and hes still that same flustered guy from before and its so cute how he struggles with his words and his face is all flushed red. idk hes adorkrable to me.

How I Feel About This Character

I LOVE HIM!!!! There’s so much I wanna know about him,, especially his past with Punnyatta!! Dude’s gone through a similar thing to Erica and I think that should be explored more… I love you Demon Hunters/Mario Kart Mii Making it’s a shame that only like 5 people are aware of its existence (and its status as Failtopia’s Prequel)

His whole arc in S1 where he learns to become less simple and develops a personality of his own is just. I love it. it’s so good!!! (S2 post game ruins it but S2 Post Game Doesn’t Exist) also shoutouts to Bob canonically being a flirt fr, looking at S1 he’s got a surprising amount of charisma :0

All The People I Ship Romantically With This Character

I ship him with both Smuk and Rose!! Their dynamic is so healthy to me and they’re all just cute together ngl,, I have more thoughts on them but it’s nothing I can really put to words rn lol

My Non-Romantic OTP For This Character

Erica and Bob, in S1 at least. I like the idea that before Erica’s multiclass Bob gave her a tip or two for how to use a sword! I think that especially after S2 they would be close! I also think that Bob and Punnyatta’s dynamic would be SO FUN to see in Miitopia’s style!! I’d kill for more lore on Bob’s life before TFFM, I hope someday we can get some more info on his first party…

and while this isn’t really an OTP, but I think Bob’s dynamic with C!Fail is so interesting, they were the original duo, but by the end of the series Bob seemed more than willing to leave him under the bus when C!Fail needed his help!

I don’t really have any unpopular opinion on him, unless not liking his return in post game counts! He could’ve worked! Just… not like that

One Thing I Wished Would Happen/Had Happened With This Character In Canon

BOB HATING MAR!! The very few times we’ve seen them interact in Post Game they seemed cool with each other, and that feels wrong to me! With the lore we have now, we know that Mar was the one who killed Punnyatta instead of Hank. He’d hate both Mar and Floop I think, and probably held a bit of resentment towards C!Fail, Chi, and Erica for being so willing to be on a party like this while knowing and experiencing first hand all the awful things Mar did to the world!

Riveting start

I'll start off with little drawings I made of myself. And my god do you see what I'm doing with the anatomy? Do you see how tiny those joints are? That's horrific. Why did I build everyone like that? But Yugo is where I began to find my art style. Will love them forever for that. I've got to go back to simple-shaped heads one of these days and blush/eyelashes on everything

We've got some lovely Smile For Me-related doodles. First is a Flower Kid design. Second was not smile for me specifically, but Face Love (by the same devs). And the last two were my earlier attempts at making comics and scenes. Ft. lancer for some reason.

Here are a couple of abandoned OCs. Pretty boy (Basil) is supposed to be yellow. We've all had that OC whose only trait was being a hot person and that's what he was all about. Didn't develop him much in terms of character which is sad because I kinda like his design. He was created when I was doodling random designs in FireAlpaca. I'll have to show the other doodles in a different post (If you are interested).

THIS GUY I WOULD LIKE TO BRING BACK! Might be kinda basic in terms of like "Weird Core" designs but I still love him. His plot keeps changing though because his design is so strange yet so simple to the point where I could put him in just about any world I wanted to had I gotten bored of the old one. Which is silly bc he's just a depressed news anchor man.

Anyway bc of that, Basil used to be his bf, but isn't anymore. He got replaced with fat peppermint man who fun fact: was inspired by the song Brass Goggles BEFORE I even got into SPG and learned what it was about! How silly is that! Peppermint boy is technically my first SPG OC!

She was a fun one, but I abandoned her too. I think she was too influenced by Frye's character from Splatoon. She was a warrior of sorts. Sort of tribal I suppose. She spoke fast, and in her tribe's language, so many people struggled to understand her. She was very bouncy too. Jumping all over the place. If you know Frye, you'll probably notice that they're a bit too similar to each other. That's usually why I abandon my OCs. When they're too similar to another.

Don't ask me about the first guy. The girl was a mii that was born in Tomodachi Life! Her name is Lily. She is the child of Kris (Deltarune) and Hatsune Miku. She looks silly which is why I love her.

Here are some low-effort doodles. Enjoyed the design of the big lady more than I thought. I was practicing drawing bigger bodies at the time. Joints are still KILLING ME but it's not bad considering I had the worst anatomy method imaginable

Here are some higher-effort doodles. Aside from the abhorrent anatomy (WHY DOES THE PIG ZOMBIE HAVE TWO DIFFERENTLY SIZED SHOULDERSS????) I quite like these critters. That mermaid girl had lore too. She could control the dead of the sea. She was lowkey evil. Never turned her into anything though. Also, you can see by that guy at the bottom of the first one, that Bunny's art was starting to take an influence on me.

More thingies! There's the goopy robot which I initially drew as a first attempt at drawing a robot, but then I made it black and goopy bc that's what it was giving. The star guy appears and disappears a few times. I think I wanted to keep them, but the design was very similar to LightLazer so I felt a bit weird about drawing them.

More robot shenanigans. First time drawing Rabbit and The Spine! Cannot believe that my first Spine drawing was in a dress oh my god.

More Bunny-inspired drawings and I'm REALLY kinda digging that weird tiny robot critter. Looking at it now, it's kinda like Spring in a few ways, but it's also completely different from Spring in so many other ways. The limbs are retractable. I kinda like this thing actually. I Oughtta do something with it.

These ones are more SPG-specific. You'll have to forgive me, most of these are from memory. Don't ask me why Rabbit looks like David Bowie in the first one.

And finally, some Rabbit and Spine doodles! Rabbit's doing the "Hey Andy Sweetie" meme. I could totally reattempt drawing that today actually.

What are Team Prime’s favorite video games to play?

Good question!

Bee is the well-known gamer of the bunch- he has hundreds of games on his Steam account. From all those his favorite is Super Mario, no matter which game. He likes Legend of Zelda too. Surely he plays FNaF and in very into the lore. Secretly he loves singing games, but he can never play them cuz he's too deep in stage fright to do so.

Sari likes Overcooked and Minecraft, those are the games she's quite good at. And it's fun to play with friends.

Bulkhead is similar, he likes multiplayer games but with lore rather than for fun. It Takes Two is one of his favorites, followed by Splatoon games because painting. He also likes Scrap Mechanic, he likes to build stuff from scratch and watch it successfully go on and wreck some unstable build he made for this very reason.

Prowl is the occasional 4th member of the gamer trio, he enjoys peaceful and puzzle games. He loves Subnautica games,Sari got him an enlarged Switch with Animal Crossing games to play. He also plays ARK: Survival Evolved with the group, whenever he goes somewhere he'll always come back with a bunch of tamed dodos.

Optimus doesn't really play games but if he does, he will slay at strategic games. Sometimes he'll hop onto Stellaris and straight up murders entire colonies that are too close to his and enslave species on various planets. It's a little dakr indulgance of his, Bee does violence all the time in other games so why not?

Ratchet is even less of a gamer that Optimus. He tends to focus on actual important things that to indulge in something as time-wasting as games. However, on occasions he will be persuaded to play a group game with the rest and lemme tell ya, NOBODY can beat him at Wii/Mii Sports. Golf especially. He gets perfect scores everytime. "And that's what you call 'surgeon precision'." is a line he will say whenever he wins. Bee has made Docbot his arch-nemesis in tennis, their matches are relentles.

Mii Lore: Magical John

The Magical John mii and his Scribblenauts counterpart were both created by RTGame.

Magical John, also known as Magic John, was first featured as a mii in Tomadachi Life on Island Island. On Island Island, he was a confident free-spirit and did. notable things such as attending a party for there being 10 islanders on Island Island.

Perhaps Magical John’s most iconic mii appearance is with RT’s Nintendo Switch playthrough of Miitopia. His Switch mii was created by Discord user Welark, and Magical John was given the job of the Flower. He was the last one to join the original party of 10 (ie before you get access to the villa post-game.) Mr. Raniel Taniel Daniel Gaming, in all his benevolence, decided that Twitch Chat (Chat) should be the one to bond with Magical John. Initially this idea was met with an overwhelming sense of fear and disgust, but some gradually grew to love Magical John.

Magical John has an affinity for making people uncomfortable, which is naturally why he is the first and only mii to be declared a tumblr sexyman. He was declared as such in 2021 and the world has not recovered since.

This is going to be an awkward/potentially uncomfortable post to make, but, I have some genuine things to remind people of:

Tumblr is not a very accessible platform for me to RP on. You will notice that I rarely do back and forth threads, and that's because I am mobile bound 98% of the time, unless I am on my iPad. Even then, using xKit and getting to use Trim Reblog is a major pain, and a major killer of spoons for me.

That is why you see me posting memes, sending asks, replying to asks, writing drabbles, doing dash commentary, etc. I work around my inability to sit here and go back and forth on threads, by leaning into immersion. I don't want anybody to think I am ignoring them.

That being said, I want to remind people that I am an independent rper. I have that on all of my blogs. I'm not an affiliate/bound to one specific group canon. I pop in and out of verses. I do my own thing. My posts, headcanons, etc., are not automatically gospel. They do not need to be accepted by everybody. I'm not sitting here with a sword held out, demanding that people acknowledge it as canon for them as well. Just because it appears on the dash, does not mean you are forced to accept it. People are free to interact as much or as little as possible. I do keep my roleplay loose and open enough for people to jump in with ease though, because this is the easiest way for me to write on this website.

I really feel as though I need to remind people of this, because the definition of "independent" seems to be getting lost. I don't write in a linear fashion, therefor, I cannot always accommodate plots and events that are considered part of an RPC canon. And that's okay. Because I am independent, not affiliate.

Anyway, I'm posting this because I'm aware that my thing that I wrote with Giacomo doesn't fit into everybody's worldbuilding/verses, and-- that's literally okay folks. I don't want anybody to take my stuff and demand that people accept it as canon, because that is rude to people who may not want to use that story beat in their own writing. I mean shit, if I woke up tomorrow and decided to retcon anything on my blog, that's in my right. Because I'm independent. And anybody who is an indie blog has that right.

At the end of the day, it's common courtesy to ask your rp partner whether or not they are okay with bringing in certain lore or events, because not everybody is involved in certain plots and verses. I ask that everybody who did decide to join in for that group rp utilize that courtesy.

Ryan and Lana both liked Sienna (the jealousy cutscenes played almost everytime 😭😭) but together they make the ultimate polycule (EVA MII LORE REAL?????)

What video games I think the Wilderlore apprentices would play / Some Wilderlore gaming headcanons because it’s fun.

Shazi and Tadg play any and all games, they each have over 200 games on Steam and have all the major consoles. Tadg loves the ps4 Spider Man game because he thinks Spider Man is cool and likes pretending to be him. Shazi got Detroit Become Human because she was like “Cool robot game!” Then cried because she accidentally got one of the bad endings.

Viola likes gacha games like Genshin Impact and Cookie Run Kingdom, she likes the routine of getting on every day (and spending money) and she has the best builds for her characters. Her favorite game is Minecraft, one time she managed to get all of her friends to play on a server with her (minus Yasha who just watched Barclay play) but she’s the only one that plays on it anymore.

Cecily mostly plays indie games, she plays Stardew Valley just to make friends with Kobus and she knows all the FNAF lore off the top of her head. She also loves the Wii and has spent hours in the Mii channel, she tells Hasu all the drama that goes on in her Tomodachi Life game and makes up stupid songs at the concert hall.

Barclay is a pretty casual gamer except for when it comes to Pokémon, he has played every game and beaten them all. He loves catching Pokémon but always has one he’s super attached to that never leaves his team.

Hasu will play games with the group but never really on her own. She shares an Animal Crossing island with Tadg on his Switch and gets on every few months to look at the cute villagers, Tadg also adds stuff to the island he thinks she would like.

Yasha pretty much refuses to play games, the only game he’s really liked playing was Overcooked but Barclay and Shazi still haven’t recovered from the things Yasha and Tadg said to each other last time they played… one time Hasu tried to show Yasha Animal Crossing but he was just confused on why you would want to do chores in a video game.

Ok the old drawings I kept talking about as promised

Back in January 2021 I briefly got really into chess for some reason (not good at it just really into it) and spent some time trying to make up some array of chess-based guys...which was mostly just like vaguely-anime people in silly hats I've never claimed to have extremely exciting ideas. I kept never posting them for some reason I think I was like self-conscious because i thought the idea felt really generic even though it probably wasn't that severe

I do remember they had "lore" though I think! Namely:

The pawns were just like little entirely non-human looking guys because pawn promotion was an extremely literal phenomenon due to magic or something (speaking of the pawns i remembered them having little floating hands like miis but apparently i only drew this on paper and not digitally)

The black pieces were supposed to be from like a mirror world which is why they're just palette swaps because I was kind of lazy (still logically there should have been 2 actual different designs of most of the pieces since there's 2 on each side for 3 of them...there weren't supposed to be that many literal clones but I never really got around to making any second ones)

Chess rulebooks were considered a religious text to them because I thought that would be kind of funny

I only ever really came up with the knight and the bishop though....And the pawns but they were easy because i made them just be little guys. I got completely stuck once I got to the rook because I didn't know what to do with them at all or what they would even be doing because it's really hard to figure out how to make a castle a person. (later my friend suggested they could have been archers which was a good idea but i never drew anything relating to that) I do still have a paper from 2021 with my fruitless attempts to make a rook on it though so you can see how stumped i was about the matter:
