Alright in celebration of Mr. City's Coco Moon Tour officially starting, I put together my (subjective) ranking of my favorite 15 Owl City songs -- this was a slideshow I made for a powerpoint party which is why there's time stamps and YouTube videos embedded in the original slides. ok long rambly rant ahead but i need to share

so, in Owl City's The Midsummer Station tour during the song Take it All Away, specifically during the line "you were the one and we called it love," Adam does an air quote for "love." i know this is a super random simple thing but it actually totally altered the way that i listen to the song.

the way i was interpreting it was that Adam, or the main character of this song, was looking back on the breakup with the love of his life and wishing things could have worked out better. they called it love because it /was/ love, and it was right person but wrong time. it hurt because they were meant for each other. it hurt because what they had was real and was now being stripped away.

after thinking about it being "love" instead of genuine love, i now hear the song as the main character looking back on what he /thought/ was love but is now realizing wasn't even right person wrong time--it was never even the right person at all. someone who really loved him wouldnt have treated him that way, wouldnt have "taken it all away." they called it "love" because they wanted it to be so badly, but eventually realized that no matter what they called it nothing would change the fact that it wasnt real love, and they weren't right for each other. it hurt because what they had /wasn't/ real, it hurt because he spent so much energy on a love that they both knew deep down wasnt going to work out.

i know this isn't a very big deal i guess, but my interpretation going from "this hurts because what was real is being taken away" to "this hurts because the illusion i built of our reality is being taken away" makes it somehow even more heartbreaking.

That's a tough one! Not including any of Adam's side projects, Silhouette has a special place in my heart, being the first Owl City song I ever heard, years ago when I first stumbled across The Midsummer Station. It might seem generic, but I really do love Fireflies, mainly because they're my favorite animal 😆 It's so hard to pick though, the majority of his discography means a lot to me and has happy memories attached to it.

OWL CITY CONCERT DAY!!!

i'm feeling a little emotional at the thought of seeing him perform again 8 years later at the exact same venue :') and im SO exited that he's going to be playing a bunch of old songs!!

sometimes i think about that owl city dude and wonder how he was able to produce 4, arguably 5, flawless albums, both lyrically and melodically and at least 3 of them production-wise as well, and then one day suddenly decide that nah, catchy diverse songs mixing clever puns, playful imagery and poignant lyrics that are both relatable and dreamy is NOT what we're going for anymore. from now on we go with the same synth-melody endlessly rehashed in all the songs, as well as extremely tired lyrical clichés and rambly songs that sound like they were improvised given a random topic, like how you sing about making pancakes while making pancakes
