Queer tormented by ocd plays disco elysium absolutely zooted on edibles, a tragically short story in only seven snapchats

Not my typical content but i had to post it.

I LOVE video games but my OCD makes them very distressing to play sometimes. My playthrough HAS to be perfect or i get extremely distressed - not like i have to do a good job and win, but more like every single playthrough has to be a beautiful work of art from beginning to end, no decisions or time wasted on things that dont serve the STORY and the CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, and CERTAINLY no sidequests left uninvestigated and no bonus content left undiscovered. This has gotten harder in recent years as video games have become more complex and more beautiful, so oftentimes you CANT uncover every single thing AND play a consistent character, because huge swaths of content are often locked behind certain decisions that you CANT MAKE if you're committing to a specific character arc or story. So anyway a while ago I played through Disco Elysium. I LOVED IT. It was FANTASTIC. It was difficult to get through at times because of the ocd but it was so so worth it and helped me practice not engaging in compulsions.

HOWEVER.

I recently decided to play it through AGAIN while absolutely fucking ZOOTED on some edibles i've discovered that make it to where i basically dont fucking have my extremely severe case of ocd for just a few hours. (They are heavenly and i love them). I thought it would be really fun to play the whole game again, but this time i ONLY open up this save when im zooted, and i ONLY have fun, with NO pressure to make the playthrough any kind of art. JUST have FUN playing a VIDEO GAME for the first time in my life. I decided i would ONLY pick the dialogue options i found the most amusing, without doing my typical 20 minutes of overthinking for each dialogue box. I was going goofy mode and i was so excited. It didnt exactly go the way i thought it would though LMAO

This is the result of that tragically short but hilarious playthrough that had me SCREAMING in my living room, told in 7 snapchats

1. Opening the game and noticing something i somehow never noticed during the whole first playthrough around 5:35 pm

2. Creating a character build, 5:38 pm

3. Deciding to have a 1 in all stats except psyche and pour all points into psyche so that i can be psychic cop, failing to realize (because edibles) that there is a low attribute cap at the beginning, so i just accidentally chose to hamstring my attributes and just NOT USE my three points to build my character, 5:40 pm

4. Choosing ONLY Inland Empire for my skill increase, once again failing to realize that i wasnt maxxing out inland empire, i was just failing to use two skill points. Also i was enjoying the music in the skill screen, which is beautiful, but since i was high i thought the 5 minutes i spent just vibing to the music was like 30 minutes so i thought i wasted a bunch of time, 5:48pm. (Ive decided to call this method of accidentally using only one skill/attribute point at the beginning of the game because youre too zooted to play video games well "Harry-Maxxing".)

5. Going through the "trying to wake up" beginning of the game choosing only the funniest dialogue options and seeing dialogue i had never seen before! Fun! But also before i took this pic i referenced the nina chimera FMA meme and my partner hadnt heard of it so i explained it for only like 10 minutes, but again, since i was high, i thought i wasted like 2 hours on that. But it was only 6:16 pm.

6. and 7. A glorious 3 minutes later, i decide turning the light on is a great first move (its been a bit since my first playthrough). Again, i am only choosing the funniest dialogue options and not thinking super well, so i just kept saying shit like "BRING IT ON" and "Let it all go" because i thought it was typical harry being overdramatic and weird, and i thought it was hilarious. Turns out i had a heart attack from turning the light on and immediately died. Literally like 5 minutes of actual playtime. Incredible. I love this game.

It wasnt the full playthrough i was hoping for but it was awesome. Rip harry number 2. I definitely recommend harry-maxxing

Are you anything like your muse?: There are bits and pieces of me in all my characters (except Gilles- fuck that guy). Addie is a baker because I like baking. Worst thing about RP (in general or on Tumblr): Trying to match length!!! Sometimes I can write for miles, sometimes I barely manage two sentences. OKAY. I have SOOOOO many WIPs on the go (which, um, y'all probably are aware since I keep whining about it) BUT, I've spent the last week outlining and screaming at my friend about what I've been calling the mustache fic and its sequels. Um. It's a comedic AU of my kick at the darkness series (because I do what I want), where the Gaels decide to do Movemeber during Derek's second year and Casey's first year at Queen's. It leads to... well... a lot of fun, if we're being honest. AND I'M SO EXCITED TO WRITE IT because I think it's gonna be HILARIOUS, I am putting MINIMAL drama in it -- I can't say no drama because this is Derek and Casey and they are very dramatic people -- and I GET TO WRITE THE HOCKEY BROS. I AM SO EXCITED because them and their friendship with Derek and then Casey is SO GLORIOUS and there's honestly something I find very wholesome about male friendships and they're always a blast to write. I don't have any of it written yet because life has kicked my butt a little. BUT. I think it's gonna be the next thing(s) I write, even though I have sooooo many other WIPs to work on... But I am so excited!!

man, it kind of bums me out how the majority of the time that kyle's jewishness is a focal point in fan content, it's for a negative reason. if kyle's contemplating the fact that he's jewish, it's because he's being bullied or harassed, because he's feeling insecure about his appearance or self worth, because he's feeling lonely and isolated, because he's having a crisis of faith, etc etc. these are all totally valid themes and character arcs to explore, of course! i think many jews like myself may be able to relate to these themes, thanks to living in a society where antisemitism and other shitty behaviour runs rampant. but i think we're really missing a golden opportunity to explore the complex and compelling positives of being jewish. where's his love for his community? where's his excitement for an upcoming holiday? where's the comfort he might take from prayers? where's his curiosity or knowledge about his family history? where's his passion for debating interpretations of the torah? these are also valid, relatable and in-character directions you could take things!

i know that this trend is probably heavily influenced by the presence of this pattern in the show itself, but it's still a bit sad. or maybe gentiles (non-jews) shy away from celebrating his jewishness because they don't feel confident in commenting on a religious experience that they've never had. to those people, I would ask, why is it you feel comfortable speculating on the hardships of being jewish, but not the joys?

that isn't to say that you're not allowed to write about the former if you're not jewish, of course! regardless of religious background, anyone can empathise with his struggles because, at the end of the day, we're all human, and it's our humanity that unites us. but i'd encourage you to push yourself out of your comfort zone, do a little research and have some fun celebrating and supporting his jewishness once and awhile :)

today I am thinking about... fat tweek! and fat butters! and fat wendy and heidi! maybe throw a lil fat kyle in there too! I'm sick and tired of fatness being equated with immorality when it comes to south park (and the world in general tbh) and it makes me sad that so many people seem afraid of portraying any of the non-cartman characters as plus-sized. 'fat' is a neutral descriptor and not a dirty word, and displaying body diversity amongst the cast is not only realistic, but a wonderful and beautiful thing! so anyway reblog this and put in the tags which character(s) you've always headcanoned to be fat or not skinny :)

Behind a screen it's hard to see, but please know, my friend, that I am blushing like crazy right now! Your words have left me breathless and I feel so honored. Truly, my heart is all aflutter and doesn't know what to do with itself!

Maybe I'm part of the minority, but to me, Shane's a very misunderstood character. He's a man of many layers, a person who experienced so much within his lifetime. There's more to him than what was given airtime. He was human - for both the good and bad in that. Least for my writing, that's how I try to portray him. He's become very special to me since I've started this RP journey, and I only ever want to do his character justice. It's become quite personal, in a way.

But, really, thank you for your sweet message! It means so much to me that you think so of my writing and portrayal. Coming from you, someone who just GETS so many different muses, who captures their personalities and quirks to PERFECTION, I am left stunned. I can only wish to ever be as wonderful as you! So! Yara’s full first name is actually Yaroslava, which is a Slavic first name that means “fierce and glorious”, derived from the Sun god Yarilo. Yara itself is one of the many nicknames associated w the name, albeit an uncommon one. It is basically synonymous with ire or fury. I am infodumping about words.

Some details of symbols below the cut:

Colour: Green. Life, nature, reassurance, healing/growth, greed.

Flora: Sunflower. Loyalty, strength, honesty, peace. Each is actually thousands of teeny flowers.

Fauna: Manul. Elusive wild cats with a round shape and a glare that could kill. Learn to growl before they open their eyes, start hunting at 4 months. Aggressive, slow, and solitary. Prefer to stay out of sight. Growl when excited, can’t meow but do purr. A group of manuls is called a destruction. Let them be known

Object: a neat looking rock you found on the road. (The you and on the road are key to the experience). No known origin or worth, but it’s hard, cool, heavy, and comforting in your hand. Pictured is serpentinite which is a very cool rock. Well, a group of minerals. They make up the oceanic crust and tectonic plate boundaries.

Favorite scene overall? Something in the show that made you unexpectedly excited?

Favorite scene uuuuuh that’s a hard question! However I think it might be the one where Stede and Ed talk about Ed opening a restaurant. All that back back and forth was GLORIOUS — “that’s the guy I’m after. who is he?” “That’s me!” and Lucius that was witnessing all of that like the embodiment of the pikachu meme… *chef’s kiss*.

What made me unexpectedly excited? Well it might be basic if I said ALL OF IT? Hehe but idk, I think the plain display of queer romance was what truly shocked me. I knew, when I started the show, that there would be some kind of queerness (I had seen the clip of the foot nudge on twitter beforehand and thought “okay this is actually queer then”) but I had no idea it would be so blatant, you know what I mean? I fully didn’t expect Ed and Stede to kiss, for example. Especially not in S1. And another thing that made me excited — and that I haven’t seen often in the media I’ve consumed — is how they treated Ed’s character at the end. Other people already said this before but I loved how they didn’t shy away from showing Ed’s true feelings and vulnerability after he went back to being Blackbeard. Often, when a character regresses or changes for the worst, you never see what’s behind the façade, you just see what the character want you to see. Here that didn’t happen; we saw Ed going back to his Blackbeard roots and any other show would’ve ended with that, but the final scene was him alone crying while staring at the lighthouse painting to let us see that no, he’s not Blackbeard anymore. He could never go back anymore, he’s just pretending because he’s heartbroken. I am a fan of how this show is showing men’s feelings and vulnerability and how they let men express them. Let men cry, ffs!

So yeah, I may have invented these little idiots, figured out what they were going to do, how they were going to do it, what they were going to say - although, writing dialogue sometimes feels like you’re eavesdropping on someone else’s conversation and you’re just trying to write it all down before they leave and you’re left with nothing (I remember Neil Gaiman said something similar and that made me feel a lot better about this because I started wondering if I was going insane) - so like... okay, yeah, technically you’re right.

But, I think that we should write stories we want to read and so I wrote a slow burn because I wanted to read one, which means I AM ALSO SITTING HERE LIKE:

7) Your favourite ao3 tag.

I was trying to work out what this question meant. I mean, the one I click into every time is the ship tag (currently Diego/Lila). I don't tend to filter by tags otherwise, because people use them so delightfully creatively and I don't want to risk filtering out good stuff. I am trying to think of a tag that I've seen that I loved. I'm currently excited by one that just says "roller disco". XD

8) How slow is a slow burn?

Look, sometimes you have to write an entirely separate 45k fic that doesn't even feature one half of the pairing, and then 25k of build-up once he's shown up again, IT'S JUST HOW THAT WORKS SOMETIMES. This is why I write one-shots in the meanwhile, because otherwise I would starve.

10) Top three favourite fic tropes.

All my favourite tropes are about shipping, because lbr that's mainly why I read fic. The one where one of the pair is hurt and the other is freaking out about it, in all its glorious incarnations, I love that. One where they are secretly in love but think the other one hates them so they cover it up by being a massive dick. And honestly I could just read my ships snuggling in bed and having a nap together forever, it could be pages and pages of 'zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz' and I would be like, yes, this is what I want for them (although it's even better if they wake up in the middle of the night when everything else is still and quiet…). XD

15) What's your favourite plotless fic you have written?

Hey! All my fics have plots, thank you! Or the same lack of plot. XD Okay, currently it's Coming To Town With The Briefcase Blues, which is just Lila freaking out because Diego got a haircut, and is literally just an excuse to say at great length that David Castañeda is very hot and it's a problem.

Black Clover 291 reaction and spoilers

I think Asta and Liebe’s devil union likely isn’t completely because of its unique nature. Since it’s an equal partnership rather than subjugation, they have to strengthen their bond as anyone would have to in any kind of relationship I would think.

Also a bit nervous what all can go down while we wait thirty minutes. Still curious if Luciferio will get to set food in the kingdoms or if some of the Magic Knights will have to travel to the devils’ world to defeat him there. Probably will come down to how willing Tabata is to kill off Vangeance and Yami. I don’t think we can get out of the Spade Arc without facing off against Luciferio directly in some way weather top side or down below at this point.

Hoping the anime does come back to finish this arc because I’m excited to see what they’d do to flesh out the fight between Dante and Jack a bit leading up to this exchange.

Good to know Magna and Zora saw Yami get kidnapped. I was curious how far away they were when it went down.

I love how the shaky lines convey so much in the close up of Magna so stressed out and barely restraining himself from immediately fighting a doomed fight that he bit through his lip enhances the emotion of the panel.

Now all I can think about is that meme of that transcription of a 911 call about the stabbed person going “What are you going to do? Stab me?” before getting stabbed. Even more hyped for whatever is about to go down.

FAIR WARNING: This post is kilometric. And I did not proofread any of this because that's how I roll baby

Anyways

So, we start with Bombalurina. A very well known mermaid (mercat? you decide) who's voice can be heard sometimes on the shore. She is a kind and curious soul. And both the kingdom and the sea creatures absolutely adore her.

Old Deuteronomy, the mermaids (mercats?) king, treats her like a daughter. And she is presented with the higher honours.

But she is also fond of the surface. Of the magnificent and glorious surface. Oh, what music has she heard. She has collected every jewelry, painting, and little knick knack that ever fell from a boat. She watches the humans with curiosity. With wonder. There is just too much too know, out of her reach.

So one day she gets an idea. She is going to talk to the humans (cats?). Not only is she going to talk to them, she is gonna ask all her questions. And ask how can she join them, if she ever can.

So when the boat of a princess on her way back from a travel passes through, she takes the opportunity inmediately. She watches with wonder while they dance and sing, and cannot help but notice how absolutely gorgeous the princess is.

And the boat hits a storm. She helps however she can. And she sees the princess fall into ice cold water. She is not letting her die. So she brings her to chore. And quietly sings to her to wake her up. She is the most beautiful thing that ever fell in the sea... She is so ready to ask her hundreds of questions. But a scream startles her and she gets back where she came from. And the princess can't help but listen to that song in her mind...

Bomba gets to safety. And explains to her friend Tantomille what just happened. She is a very powerful mermaid (mercat?). And offers to check whatever she got from that trainwreck go make sure the princess is ok.

Bomba scatters her things. And she gives Tanto a notebook, the pages are absolutely irrecognizable, but it used to be full of drawings. Tanto uses her magic to tell her she is ok. She tells her she is a princess and about to be the ruler of her kingdom, after her mother sadly passed away. She tells her how she is lonely. And how she repeats Bomba's song to feel calm, like a spell itself.

Bomba asks if she will answer her questions. Tanto says she's not sure. But warns her of meddling with the human world. "Their ways are different than ours. We aren't meant to meet yet"

"Then when"

"I don't know

"Well, I can't wait"

She swims as fast as she can far, far away. There is a solution to this problem... a dangerous one, but absolutely deserving of a chance.

Macavity, a magical being feared both in land and sea. Capable of anything, the legend says. But never found in a place twice. You have to give him an offering to make him appear. And she does. She goes to the place the legend talks about. And offers him some of the most valuable jewels of the kingdom that she took from the palace. Out come two mermaids (mercats?) on perfect syncrony. They let her inside a cave.

And there he is. Macavity. Imponent. Warm like fire, but under the water.

She asks for a way to go on the surface. She has to meet that princess. Macavity laughs at her. And offers a change: Her voice, for a pair of legs. They will last a week. She must be back by then. Or she will turn into sea foam. If she wants to keep her legs, then a human shall offer her their heart. Is well known that mermaids don't have a soul, the only thing they can give is their heart. And they take it very seriously. So this is high stakes.

She hesitates. But she agrees. And Macavity breaks her in half. She gives her legs. And she takes away her voice. She is rushed to the surface. And she finds herself alone. And hurting. The legs hurt as if her tail was still there, just broken. She can't ask for help. And she stays on shore for a while. Sure that she will not make it...

"Oh, gods, are you ok?"

A sweet voice wakes her up. And the sudden embrace of strongs arms taking her up. She is not exactly aware of what's happening. She only smells a sweet perfume. So different of the shore...

"Don't worry, we'll get you some help"

She wakes up in a soft surface. And the sweet perfume around her. She's lost until she finds by her side a surprised face. A warm and calm face welcomes her. And her words come out of her mouth like honey.

"You're awake! Hi. My name is Demeter. How did you end up on the shore?"

She tries to explain herself, but she has no way how. But Demeter is patient. And she tries her best to understand whatever sign is Bomba throwing at her. It might be hard to communicate, but she is not giving up. And the smiles and nods that Bomba gives her are very much welcomed.

They spend a day getting Bomba back to shape. And Demeter cannot help but find in that smile a familiar charm. Like something she was meant to see. And that she has seen before... In another time...

That's not important.

She has a brilliant idea.

An old lord has a daughter that might help them. And she asks Bomba if she might want to go and try to find a way. She inmediately agrees. And finds herself enchanted with everything in the surface. The trees, the roads, the horses, the people, the dances, the music the arts. She stops wide eyed at everything. Is everything she could've ask and more. And Demeter feeds into that curiosity. She takes the time to tell her the name of every plant and animal. Retells all the stories of the kingdom. She makes sure every time Bomba stops to look at something, she gets new information. She is specially throughout about art. And they make a one day trip into two and a half.

When they meet the old lord, he introduces his children as Victoria and Mistoffelees. Victoria is mute, and she is more than happy to teach Bomba to sign. Bomba is ecstatic. And they spend the next days teaching her. Not only to sign, but also they show her new dances, new food, new textures and fabrics. New everything.

And Demeter is there in the middle. She is everything that the human world could ever be. Her voice is soft and her hands are warm. She has the prettiest smile and she dances like the world is not watching her. Her embrace is delicate and she smells like fruit and flowers... Demeter is everything she ever dreamt about the human world and more.

And Deme finds in Bomba excitement and happiness. She is confident and curious and adventurous. And her laugh is contageous and her embrace is like a sunset at the beach. She doesn't let her feel lonely. Bomba is a new fire in her heart.

And the days pass... and a week comes. And the last day, Bomba has learnt to sign a little. Or at least to communicate with Demeter. And she urges them to come back. She can't explain. She just has to go back. Demeter is heart broken. Why? Why must she leave? Isn't she happy?

She practically escapes. Trying to make it to shore. And Deme follows her. Desperate. Because she doesn't want to lose her. Bomba just runs and stops at the nearest beach. She is so hesitant. The sun is going down. Is it worth it? Does she really want to go back? To a life in the sea? Apart of everything she loves? Apart from Demeter?

Demeter finds her. Pleads her to stop. To come back. She assures them whatever is worrying her, is going to be fine.

But a storm comes. And with that, a tall, imponent, figure.

Macavity.

He comes. Demeter falls down. Looking at the legend come true. He laughs. Bomba runs to Demeter. Trying to tell her to stop. But her scream comes from a small shell on Macavity's neck.

He explains that "This beauty changed her voice... for a chance up here. And her time is up."

In front of a paralyzed Demeter, he hypnotizes Bomba. He makes a puppet out of her. And starts to slowly make her walk into the sea. Her legs losing balance as she goes. Turning into foam as she touches the water.

Until Demeter runs at her. Tries so hard to pull her out. And shouts that she loves her. That he can't take her away.

"YOU CAN'T TAKE MY HEART AWAY FROM ME."

And as she says that, Bomba falls. But her legs are back. They hear a crack. And as the shell breaks, Macavity is gone. The voice goes up. And joins the moans in the wind.

But who cares?

Bomba is there. Deme is there.

And they kiss and live happily ever after :D
