Now we have two freeholders to encourage more deserter drop pod raids! Hooray!

Mechi made a gift for his adopted twin, and now the duo have matching mechanitor bandwidth capacity. Also, Kwahu looks very cute with his lil' plait and his airwire headset. I love him.

Now that he's dressed the part, he set to work gestating his first-ever homemade mechanoid! I'm so proud of him <3 <3

#22.9 Kindness

Ran woke up with far less aching than he anticipated. Though what shocked him more was that the long haired FUG was the first one to greet him.

"Oh. Hello." The FUG guy, Bam –as A.A called him– wore a soft smile, but half of his face was still hidden behind his long bangs. Ran didn't know if he wanted to respond to him or not. 

"Ran~!" Shibisu cried fake tears, "My cutie~ you made me worried!" Ran grimaced when Shibisu leaped from his seat with two hands outstretched. He was so troublesome, but at least he was good at noticing the line he shouldn't cross, by stopping himself from actually enveloping Ran in an embrace.

Ran gritted his teeth and pushed himself up to sit to get a better look at his surroundings. Seemed like there were only the three of them in the room.

"Mr. Agni said he has healed most of your injuries, and he left you here to rest until you feel better." Bam informed him unprompted. "Khun and Mr. Rak had just left to get lunch at the cafeteria, they should be back soon."

Ran ignored him. He had no intentions to be friendly with this guy. He also noticed that Shibisu was oddly quiet, observing him and Bam. And Ran felt his judging stare pricking his skin and poking his conscience.

Bam glanced at Shibisu, and Shibisu raised an eyebrow. They seemed to have a short telepathic conversation.

"Ah, sorry. I should've introduced myself first. My name's Bam, but you can also call me Viole. I'm Mr– ah, I'm Shibisu's old teammate."

Ran already knew. He had heard about Bam from hushed tales between his allies; about an irregular that took the test with A.A's team and died back on the second floor.

Despite the fact that this person named Bam was long gone, A.A's world seemed to still revolve around him. Like how he couldn't seem to let go of their team that bickered all the time, and how his goal was to take that annoying blonde girl to climb despite his unsubtle hatred toward her.

But the worst of it was how A.A would be so hard on himself to ensure every floor test went perfectly. 

And truthfully, Ran had hated this Bam ever since, for making A.A live like that.

"Are you thirsty, Ran? You haven't spoken in a bit." Shibisu pulled Ran out of his thoughts.

Ran cleared his throat at the mention. And Shibisu was right; his throat actually felt so dry that he wanted to talk even less. Too troublesome.

"Ah, right. Uhm…here." Bam picked up and offered him a glass of water, along with a pill in a small container. "Mr. Agni told us to give this to you, he said it could help relieve some pain."

Ran was skeptical about taking the pill, so he only accepted the water. He watched Bam place the container back on the table, silently glad that neither of them forced him to take it.

Bam was being really thoughtful so far. Maybe he'd consider giving Bam a chance to justify himself. To prove that he could be forgiven for hurting A.A in such a way.

"...Ran." Ran mumbled, "My name's Ran."

Bam beamed and Ran had to mentally squint from the sudden rays of sunlight, "It's nice to meet you, Mr. Ran! If you need anything else, just tell me. I'll do my best to assist you."

Ah, troublesome. Ran immediately regretted his decision.

However, now he understood why A.A had been so devoted. A.A was weak to kindness, because Ran knew they both grew up without it. And as far as Ran knew, A.A had always chased after something hard to attain, one of a kind. Whether it was jewelry, weapons, authority,...even people. And Bam fit the criteria too well.

The automatic door opened and revealed A.A. Their eyes inevitably locked and A.A's disappointment was clear to Ran.

Think of the devil…Ran felt his annoyance bar rapidly rising.

"What did I tell you?" A.A navigated his way to them, not once breaking his glare. "Only consume redan when it's absolutely necessary."

Ran was taking none of it. "Hmph!" He had lots of fun with the spar, so he wouldn't say he regretted it.

A moment passed with A.A still staring daggers into him. It almost made Ran feel bad. Almost. In the end, A.A sighed and let it slide. "Suit yourself."

A.A brought three plates filled with an assortment of food. Though Ran figured that none of them were for him. Ran's stomach rumbled defiantly when the smell reached his nose.

Instead of being teased, Ran was taken aback when Bam offered him his yet untouched food. "You can have this, Mr. Ran."

Ran didn't know how to react to that, feeling a little uncomfortable. He felt like it would be wrong to refuse, but he didn't want it. He looked at A.A instead, hoping that he'd get the hint.

A.A noticed this and said, "You don't have to be nice to him, Bam."

"Hm? Why?"

Unfortunately A.A didn't say a better explanation other than, "Because that's how it is with him."

Shibisu slung his arms around Bam's neck. "What Khun meant is…Ran appreciates your thoughtfulness, but I think he would rather get his own food than take yours because he doesn't want to bother you. Right?"

Isu winked at Ran, and Ran rolled his eyes. That was not exactly true, but it was a softer way to put it. "As he said."

"Ah," Bam retracted his offering hands, "I see."

Ran wasted no time and swung his feet off the bed, glad to find that they weren't hurting as much. 

Bam had leaped from his seat as well, ready to catch Ran with his free hand if Ran didn't make it to stand. However it only made Ran much more eager to leave the room and get away from Bam.

Getting nice gestures from someone else he barely knew usually means they have ulterior motives, and he was so tired of being treated that way.

Bam might have meant well, seeing how much A.A trusted Bam. But Ran just hadn't gotten used to receiving kindness.

"Well then," Ran went for the door and it automatically opened for him. He didn't bother to look back to check if they followed him out. "I'll go and get some food."

I can't stop thinking about a danganronpa soulmate au in which Komaeda and Hinata end up together but aren't soulmates.

Komaeda thought that part of his luck cycle (or unlucky cycle if you will) was that he didn't have a soulmark. Maybe that's why he thinks he's trash or unworthy of love and care. Because in a world where everybody has a soulmate, whether romantic or not, nobody is destined to love Nagito Komaeda.

Hinata on the other hand has a soulmate. He doesn't really like to talk about it to the other remnants and doesn't show anybody his soulmark. Most of them just assume that Chiaki was his soulmate. Or that his soulmate died during the tragedy. They aren't really wrong that his soulmate is dead, just about who his soulmate was. In reality, poor unfortunate Hajime was unluckier than Nagito in this whole "soulmate" situation. Because who worse for Hajime to be tied to than Junko Enoshima.

Avatar 3 Theory: Varang is Pandora’s Cleopatra

Potential Quaritch x Varang relationship dynamic

So I’m a soft-core Quarang shipper, I think it’d be cool to see but we have so little information at this time, that it could go wherever with them. It might happen - it might not but let’s entertain what their dynamic could be in a potential romance.

Firstly let’s touch base on Varang herself - again, as of May 2024, we know next to nothing.

We know she is the leader of the ash people and that she is ‘a strong and vibrant central character who encompasses all the sequel saga."- quoted from an interview. Then, seen in behind the scenes from the way of water, she will interact with Quaritch - with him potentially wearing ash Na’vi attire in a later scene.

That is it, the following is all speculation.

When I think of strong female leaders from history, of course the first woman who pops in mind is Cleopatra - despite being most known for her beauty she was actually an adept mind who received the best education there was, becoming disciplined in many arts and sciences such as chemistry, strategy & politics, also speaking 9 languages. A woman with great theatric flare and a penchant for the extravagant to say the least - all apart of her persona and psychological manipulation of her allies and enemies.

This all reflects how I think we’re going to see Varang portrayed, a beautiful but fearsome leader who is capable of so much more beyond the surface - strong & vibrant enough to persist through the rest of the franchise as a central character.

So I’m thinking that Quaritch & Varang’s relationship will mirror Cleopatra’s relationship to both Julius Caesar & Mark Antony.

Quaritch would, in this scenario, represent both Julius Caesar & Mark Antony - he is both the older military leader & strategist, while also being the strong & young, bull-headed Antony - he is both the experienced old human man and the young yet to be tested Na’vi man.

When you read about the three of them, especially Cleopatra & Mark Antony you can see potential parallels with Varang creating alliances via wooing the leader/high ranking recombinant Quaritch of the RDA-human faction.

The romance of the relationship ultimately secondary to the political power and actual military power gained by both sides:

- The ash people gaining a powerful ally that will cement their future upon Pandora above all other Na’vi, protecting themselves in human expansion whilst emboldening their power - antagonistic but maybe not necessarily villainous.

- The RDA gaining a native fighting force with potentially knowledge of the entire moon at their fingertips (outcasts from all over the planet having joined the ash people). An entire faction of ‘Pacified hostiles’ one may even say. It would also do the RDA well to have some natives who aren’t opposed to their presence - especially for optics with Earth.

A powerful alliance to control Pandora - just as Egypt & Rome under Cleopatra & her Roman lovers - is cemented with a union between Varang & Quaritch.

Anyway this is just all speculation based on nothing really, but I think it would be cool to see if historical figures could inspire this franchise going forward.

So I've read ch 421 spoilers

It's a mess. I've been really patient with final arc even though I disliked some of the stuff happening enough for me to dissappear for a year or so.

Even if I dislike AFOmura with passion, at the start he was interesting to really explore how the quirk singularity was supposed to work. Without any "new being" sadly, I was curious what would happen and yet... Nothing.

Okay then what about Toga, Dabi and Spinner? What about their battles? Nothing really

Dabi was the most enjoyable of what was left of LoV with Toga close second. But they're both basically dead at this point. Spinner just existed for a couple of chapters, talked and then poof mission completed nothing else needed of him.

Toga's final chapter is still satisfying, it was similar to Jin's final chapter in a way.

Well what about the new chapter? Nothing

Tomura after 419 had basically become a background noise, maybe he'll come back one day. But not in this chapter.

This chapter is basically AFO talking like him losing Yoichi isn't something that happened 100 years ago. Are we supposed to care that he's sad and doesn't feel anything?

AFO trying to use his "tragedies" like he'll suddenly get a character development from it is just annoying.

Tomura's body in AFO's control now looks even more like a corpse rather than a normal body. Just let him die amd take his body with him if you don't want Tomura to live anymore. I don't care how sad AFO might be from suddenly understanding that his goal is hollow. About time

And now. Getting help in the finale of any arc is honestly something a person reading Shonen manga would expect and it's like a norm rather than an exception.

Except... Izuku is literally quirkless again. What can he really do now? No one really knows that he just decided to throw everything away just for the "crying child that needs saving". People already voiced how dumb that was and yet here we are with "crying child" saved, hands restored, but now there's no way to defeat AFO again.

And the worst thing is is that I actually tried to think about the arc and Izuku's role in it as something good for a long time and it didn't pay off at all.

I still like how he's paying attention to the fact that it's an All-Might merch, but sadly that means he doesn't pay needed attention to what he's going to do now and no one is actually capable of helping him in the moment.

It might as well end in "everyone believes that it'll be okay!" and stuff and that's it. That's all we'll get.

And I'm just lost at what to even look forward to in this finale. But maybe when it'll come out in a volume format I'll understand it better like I did with Izuku leaving UA arc. I basically just skipped it, looking at the leaks sometimes and only after it was finished I read it, two years after it came out I didn't bother watching anime version until this winter.

In the end all we can do is just wait and see, I'll still be doing sketches and stuff, but for now it's really not great or even just good.

(it still looks good tho, since Horikoshi is still Horikoshi)

to be perfectly honest with u, most of my designs and their elements don’t have a ton of conscious thought to them … to me, they just Feel Right, if that makes any sense ? it’s pure intuition. i gave kieran a big bow on his hat (u can’t hardly ever see it usually but it’s there) and i thought it would be very cute to have javi match with him :’] and personally, with javier’s sense of style, i do think he would accessorize more if given the circumstance, including things like bows (canonically he usually wears similar items around his neck- we could dare to say a few were originally hairpieces), so i just think it suits him ! so no crazy backstory, but the design i draw him with is post-kieran influence, which means that his bow is much bigger than the one i headcanon he used to wear before kieran gifted him bigger ribbons. i’d draw what pre and post kieran javi designs look like to me but im at work </3

I'm reading a superhero webnovel titled worm, and I'm in a part that's pretty sinophobic, and there's mention of characters with mandarin names:

Tōng Líng Tǎ; Shén yù

I looked it up and didn't find anything, and then I remembered that you speak mandarin. Any idea what they say in English?

OOOO I could be missing something but from what I can tell Shén yù is supposed to be like 神谕 ? Which is like an oracle, and Líng tǎ could be 灵塔 like those buddhist pagodas maybe :0 and Tōng just sounds like a regular surname :3 definitely there's a like divine, spiritual or religious theme which is common enough in chinese stuff, so I guess that's fair. I'm not sure if it would be considered problematic since I'm quite blur about this stuff but I will say it's pretty on the nose if I'm guessing the words right, like they're just nouns 😭 ANYWAYY I don't know much about names so </3
