I had the sudden realization that Elias whole discourse about watching but never interfering gets way more interesting with the knowledge that he already made the bet with Peter and is planning to drop Martin in the Lonely. With that in mind his recordied lesson for Jon about Barnabas becames:

BIG OL WARNING OF SPOILERS FOR BOTH TMA AND TMAGP. THIS IS JUST A RAMBLING OF THOUGHTS I HAVE ON BOTH SERIES.

i remember seeing a post saying how all the entries in the magnus protocol feel like the priest from the 2 parter episodes in season one of tma,and after this weeks episode, yeah i definitely see it.

this go around feels so much more visceral, like the season 5 episodes, except not as abstract if that makes sense. like i feel like the horrors were a-step away from people. like yes the horrors were still happening but in a thematic way and through a conduit of some sort. like the leigtner books or the avatars or the nature of the fear entity. like it felt like a distinct separation from reality and the supernatural, even though they were throughly mixed.

however with Protocol, the supernatural feels more incorporated. like TMA felt like a water and oil suspension and tmagp feels like an emulsion. like milk. that change from reality and the supernatural is no longer a distinct line, but a gradual transition.

the supernatrual feels crueler this go around, with the amount of things happening to peoples bodies, ie the dudes eyeballs in the violin episode, red canary's eyes in the first episode, needles victim also having their eyes targeted, and now episode eight having the victim being bitten into and parts of him consumed(his finger). Sure TMA is no stranger to body horror and pretty horrible things happening to peoples bodies, but i feel like the extreme severity of body horror( ie the choir of the Stranger) and other horror in genral made it not as jarring to hear, since it was so outlandish that it didnt really feel like it could happen in person.

which brings me back to the priest. what made his statement so memorable, apart from the fact thats its the only 2 parter episode( if i remember right), was how multiple entities were involved and how mixed and emulsified they felt and how jarring it was to hear. Like that , and the episode where a Achilles tendon is cut with a bolt cutter, brought the body horror into real life. i could see it happeing to myself or somebody else. Which is also how i feel with TMAGP. it can be imagined more easily so it makes it more jarring to hear.

up until season 5, the fears had felt more separate and the change between reality and supernatural felt distinct. However, you could argue that even in season 5 there was separation between the fears and reality, even though the fears had become the new reality as can been seen by how there were distinct sections for specific fears.

But now, everything is emulsified, and the separation is gone. Body parts are being chomped, and gnawed, and popped. and i dont know how to feel about it. i like it to an extant but in hoping it doesnt become to much like a Saw film. i dont think the series will, given the episode of the guy in the garden or the voyeur movie goer, but it certainly has up-ticked in body related horror. Still, I cant wait to see how it all unfolds.

Just finished up the magnus archieves because i wanted to make sure i finished it before the magnus protocol rolled out and FUCK GUYS LIKE DAMN OKAY. I don't know how i managed to avoid spoilers for the last episode but I'm glad i did cause that ending it hurting me so much and i also have a LOT of theories.

The Magnus Archives cultural osmosis

this is what I, someone who has listened to 5 minutes of the podcast total (and it were all clips of weird static noises) belives to know about it:

- The Magnus Archieves really is a podcast, huh?

-Jon and Martin are in love. I see this one the most.

-there is Jonathan sims, head archivist of the magnus institute. there is also a character called the archivist, and maybe a character called the archieves. not sure if they are related, but if they are I imagine it to be like different pokemon evolutions

- jon and jonny are the same but also very destinctly not

- tim is hot

-hellen has wine aunt energy and she has something like an emotional support door that she brings with her at all times and likes to hang out in apparently

-elias killed a dude?? and stole his eyes?

-there is a wlw pair where one does podcasts and the other youtube

-people like to draw the character I assume to be jon in skirts and just in general all of the characters are always drawn in very nice outfits

-there is a lot of eyes but also the eye singular? I think it’s either the main character’s pet or a weapon. not sure.

-there are worms

-there are avaters but not like the bending ones and not like the blue ones. or maybe they are idk ?? I am confused about that one

-sasha is the archivist?maybe?

-tim is on a kayaking trip, but the way people say that sounds like denial

-there are tape recorders and they are alive and evil

-there is a wolf woman and I think she got shot by the police

-georgie barker, despite her name, has a cat. 

-gerard way is in there? and he doesn’t like books for some reason?

-also his mother killed people apparently and one of them is still buried alive

-martin likes murder but not if his boyfriend does it. or maybe he does like it. I’ve seen contradictions on this one. maybe only if the murder applies to elias. he doesn’t seem to like him.

can’t think of more right now but oh well. I’m actually pretty confident about all of this.

the thing behind the archivist does not fully fit the skin it is wearing, it being wrinkly in parts it should not, like a fabric. its sleeves are rolled up to show  the stiched up seams running down its arms, and along the neck, where soemthing white can be seen underneath. the archivists skin is of a man with brown skin with scruffy facial hair and is covered in small circular scars, as well as a long scar across his neck and a pink burn on the hand cradling the archivists face. its long greying hair is tied back in a bun with a red ribbon. end id]

hey how fucked up would it be in nikola actually managed to steal jon’s skin, huh? anyway i had to draw that and now my search history is uhhh filled with “what do people look like without skin”, “could someone survive without skin” and the like so theres that

anyway if thats not bad enough, while looking up referances in certain episodes i realised theres a good change danny was in the skin choir during the unknowing, or at least nothing i see that contradicts the possibility. so thats awful to think about

If someone went to you and showed you Jonny D'Ville (at literally any album) and S1 Jon Sims and asked who has a found familly and his life somewhat put together and who accidentaly ended the world and tried to fix it by becaming god and killing everyone, regreted, didn't and maybe died (?) 10 episodes into the Magnus Archieves and I already want nothing more than to shake the attitute out off Jon Sims. Don’t get me wrong I love the character but him snarkily dismissing every story despite the evidence makes for an exhausting listening experience.

Starting a new popular podcast is both great and painful cause on one hand there is so much content and story and fans to learn from BUT on the other hand the fandom is highkey a untouchable spoiler filled land where searching even for a characters design can spill everything for you. Just started Magnus Archieves and after goung through this rodeo with Juno and Wolf 359, im back on this bullshit again

ooooof yeah tma in particular is PACKED with spoilers. i ended up blocking all of the tags when i was listening because i saw one (1) art post that was kinda vague but flipped a switch for me to put the pieces together too early for something.... it sucks cause sometimes you just wanna see character designs or reblog a harmless joke thats not related to the plot but you end up getting bombarded with spoilers
