i'm just curious bc i'm watching How to Train Your Dragon and i always forget how happy and calm it makes me feel. i mean, i did name my cat after Toothless the dragon. but i also love Lion King, that's my Disney comfort movie. and my Ghibli comfort movie is Spirited Away. watching any of these when i'm in a foul mood or my anxiety is high always helps 🥰 but i watch them just for fun too, not only when i'm in a mood. what about you?

#its the reading equivalent of having your entire media diet consist exclusively of children's cartoons
the amount of people doing the "you guys are Making Fun Of Children for like children's books/ya" is insane when that entire article was spawned by full grown college students in college saying that they're favorite book is fifth grade level
#like here's the thing: i don't mind the occasional cartoon#there's a reason why when i feel off sometimes i just put on justice league/justice league unlimited#and stuff geared for kids can be enjoyable even as adults and even have messages i find engaging#but when that's the only thing you're consuming#to the point where you are actively detracting from stuff that isn't in fact for six year olds#then it's a problem especially if you're abjectly refusing to engage with anything else#the lion king is my favorite movie but is it the only movie i watch? no and if it was i'd expect someone to call me out on that#like sorry college kids saying that their favorite book is harry potter and they don't wanna read anything more difficult#and don't think anything more difficult is even worth their time actually is a problem#(and part of a broader trend of anti-intellectualism amongst young people we've been seeing over the last five years but i digress)

You always wanted to go strawberry picking with your brother. But with him being in Hogwarts and doing work, you thought he wouldn’t have any time for you.
Only for you to be wrong when he shows up during the holiday to spend time with his beloved little sibling.
When you asked what he wanted to do after unpacking his things. He remembered how you wrote to him about how you always wanted to go strawberry picking. He smiled picking you up. Lifting you up like the lion muggle movie called "lion king". “Let’s go strawberry picking love.” You were immediately struck with a wave of happiness and excitement. You started to squealed of delight. Lorenzo smiled at your excitement. You both told your parents about what you two were gonna do tomorrow as Lorenzo had secretly packed some hats to blind you both from the sun.
As the morning rolled, Enzo sprayed you up and down with sunscreen. He did himself afterwards whilst you grabbed a sun hat he bought for you. You two soon rolled out. Making it to the strawberry fields was an amazing sight as you gripped the hand they held yours. “Bub! Bub! Look at all those pretty berries!!” You said jumping up and down. Enzo smiled softly at you. “Yes love, look at how juicy and sweet they are.” Your mouth started to water, and Lorenzo knew as well. “Alright lovely, let’s get to picking!” Enzo pulled out two baskets. One large for him, and a small one for you. You immediately let go of his hand and started to hand pick every single strawberry you seen. Seconds turned into minutes into an hour. Lorenzo was by your side picking the fresh strawberries beside you. He loves that innocent glint in your eyes, he loved making you happy and making sure you had a good holiday with him. To him, this was making up time for how he didn’t spend much with you. He also hated how he couldn’t see you much. You two were stuck to the hip ever since your birth.
A squeal broke his train of thought when he sees you running at him with a big strawberry. “Enzy! Enzy! Look what I got!” Lorenzo kneeled down to your height to take the strawberry you held out to him. “Oh my! This is a big one!” “I know right!” You were proud to find a big one. “Guess this means we can make a strawberry cake, won’t we?” Lorenzo had a grin, a grin with a big thought as he held it up to your face. “Yes!” “Well let’s go!” Lorenzo picked you up and put you onto his back. You laughing out loud made Enzo smiled harder. He starts to make airplane noises and run through the strawberry field. You both didn’t care for the weirded out looks. What only mattered was you two getting some time together as family.
And you two were loving every moment.
𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐬!: 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬
Imagine Lorenzo making you a small strawberry shortcake after an hour of picking strawberries. A well reward for picking the biggest strawberry.
You and Lorenzo making a mess of the kitchen, laughter thrown around as you splash Enzo with flour
You making a smile face out of a flour pile. Enzo moved by you to almost make his own smile face out of flour.
Imagine Lorenzo making sure you don’t get a big piece so you don’t choke on it. He’d never forgive himself if he didn’t watch what you ate.
You and Lorenzo watching some muggle cartoons he got from a store with the strawberries. He knows you liked comic books and visual things, so he got them for you.
You bragging tonight about how you picked the biggest berry before him.
You flicking a small strawberry into Lorenzo’s shirt, making him arch his back and try to get it out.
Lorenzo throwing a bigger strawberry at your face making you two go into a strawberry fight
Imagine you and Lorenzo playing with the strawberries like Barbie dolls to pass a little bit of time.
You eating the last few strawberries and being full as Lorenzo laughed at how you hiccuped from eating all them. He soon picked you up and laid you down as you usually sleep after eating.

Pink Yarn
Pairing: Seonghwa x GN Reader
Genre: Pure Fluff, One Shot (For now 👀)
Warnings: None
Summary: A stressful week leads you to crocheting on the couch and simple pink bandanna finds it way on Seonghwa’s head.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Starting a little story series where reader makes cute little crochet gifts for the boys. They each will have their own story but it will allude too ot8xreader. Starting off with Seonghwa!
This is my first fanfic so please be kind and I hope you enjoy!
It was a quiet day in the shared home. With nine people living under the same roof there weren't many opportunities for quiet time in the shared spaces, such as the living room. It seemed that after a month of living with the group you had lucked out today. They all had the day off, as written on the shared calendar on the fridge, and it looked like they all had decided to spend the day out of the house. While you didn’t mind living with them or the constant noise that came with living with eight men, a nice relaxing and quiet Saturday to yourself in your comfy clothes was just what you needed.
You had started the day by sleeping in and eventually venturing into the kitchen. Following a light breakfast of a bagel and two cups of coffee you ventured back into your guest room. Most of your belongings still in boxes. It was getting quite annoying to be living out of a bunch of boxes and storage bins, but you didn’t have much of a choice. One month ago a water main broke in your apartment flooding many of the units. The boys offered their extra room until everything was settled, what was supposed to be a week fix, and slowly became one month. It seemed like the water main uncovered a new problem every week. First, it was the AC units having water damage, to rusting pipes, and the newest issue being cracks in the ceiling from pooling water. It was a running joke between the boys and yourself that you would never leave. At first, it was funny, but after the last conversation with your landlord you were going to have to talk to boys tonight.
The water main caused so much cracking in the walls and ceiling they essentially had to rip everything out of the building and redo the three-story building. It was estimated to take over a year to finish the project, and you now had to hunt for apartments. While the boys didn’t seem to mind you staying in their downstairs guest room, you still wanted to talk to them about extending the stay until you found a place. It was an unpleasant conversation with your landlord last night, after a busy and stressful work week. Leading to an overwhelming urge to cry, scream, and cry some more. You had already started to feel like you were taking up their space, no matter how many times they told you otherwise, and you didn’t want to burden them further.
Not wanting to start working yourself up you push those thoughts aside and head to the desired storage bin. Under two other bins, stood your yarns and other crafts. You had the strong desire to put on a movie, or a few, and crochet until your wrist gave out. A hobby you brought out when you needed something repetitive that could shut off your mind. Your favorite part about this hobby was you could see progress in real-time. Having something start from yarn and become something in just a few short hours. Looking as some of the unfished products, mostly different pattern blankets, you decided you wanted to make something small with some of the smaller spools of yarn. Grabbing the bright pink spool of acrylic yarn, you grab your smallest hook and head to the couch. Grabbing a blanket you quickly put on Disney plus, and put on The Lion King. Not really watching the movie and mainly singing the songs when you start your project.
The movie coming to end you take a look at the project in your hand. A simple triangle of pink yarn stared back and you smiled a little. It was only a quarter of the way there but the simple pink bandana was the perfect small project to unwind. Getting up to stretch your legs and get a drink you sit back down, set on finding the next movie. Two movies and lots of singing breaks later, you were 75% there and took another break. Getting a quick snack and taking a bathroom break. It was the middle of the afternoon and you looked at the dinner schedule. Looked like most of them had their own dinner plans, meaning when you got hungry you would order some takeout. Sitting back down on the couch it took about five minutes for you to give up on a movie and quickly go to Spotify. You just wanted some music, something to zoned out too, but needed something that was the right vibe. After hitting play on your crochet playlist you zoned out again.
A random order of songs played from all genres from pop, country, latin, and kpop. You tune back into the music when you hear the familiar notes begin to play and you look up at the screen with a smile and a laugh. The song Say My Name begins to play and you can’t help but sing along as you finish up your bandana. The boys know that you are a fan of their music, but you had yet to play any of their songs in the house, let alone sing along. You thought back to when you first met them and how your Korean was so choppy they opted to speak to you in English. After moving and working to Korea for over a year, and with the help of the boys, your Korean had defintly improved. Still embrassed to sing their songs in front of them, you’ve held yourself back from belting their songs. You where alone now, and it had been so long since you sung one of their songs. Not paying attention to much of anything, you add the final row to the bandana while rapping along with Mingi. You didn’t hear the front door open. Getting ready to belt the last few lines of the song you finally look up from your finished bandana to see Seonghwa standing there with a soft smile on his face.
You stare fozen at him as the song ends and a new random song begins.
“I knew you where an Atiny, but I didn’t know you knew our songs so well. That is so cute.” He says with a light laugh. He looks down to your hands and the yarn. “Ah did you make something? I didn’t know you knew how to… knit?”
You shake your head out of embarrassment and stand from the couch. “Actually it is crochet, and it is something I do when I have some free time. Actually! Can you wait right here? You can model my finished piece!” You ask and walk to the kitchen with a smile when he nods his head. You cut the extra yarn before trying a simple knot. You would sew the rest of the extra yarn later. You walk back towards Seonghwa before showing him the bandana. He looks so impressed and his eyes look at you and the bandana a few times. Slowly becoming embarrassed at his impressed stare you slowly bring the bandana to his head. He is silent as you tie the bandana and style his hair, happy it was still long with framing front pieces. You work carefully, not to pull his hair, and focus on not catching his hair when you tie it.
So focused on being careful you don’t see the way he is looking at you.
He really did enjoy having you living with them. It was a nice change and you fit in so well with the group. You could hang out with the most extroverted of the group one day to the next quietly with the introverts. The way you meshed with the group and could tell what they needed before they could. Days when Hongjoong would skip meals because of work, you would put a bento box beside him for him to discover when he finally stepped aside, always leaving a note and reminding him to take care of himself. Other times when Wooyoung offers to cook and comes home from a long schedule exhausted. You’d beat him to the kitchen with everything out and ready for him to start, even taking over some of the prep you know he hates doing. Even making morning coffees and teas for the groups when you knew they had busy schedules, waking earlier than you need to in order to leave little notes with their cups. You were selfless and it was an easy decision between the group to let you stay as long as you needed. Being your friend for the past year was something they all cherished. They had multiple conversations about how much they cared for you, you living with them was a dream come true. Some conversations even involve what a romantic relationship would be like with you. They still had one secret they had to tell you, hopefully it wouldn’t ruin what they had with you.
“I thought you would be gone for dinner. Why are you back so early?” You asked before taking a step back to see if it was even on his head.
“My friends cancelled. So I decided to come home early. Looks like you are stuck with me.” He said with a laugh.
“That’s good. I hate eating alone.” Fixing the left side you take another step back. “There! Oh you look so cute Hwa! Come, look” you say, dragging him to the hallway mirror.
When he looks up he is shocked for a second before falling in love with the bright pink piece. He is so impressed you made it in just a day, and he never wants to take off.
“You did so well. I love it. You’ll have to make me one next time.” Your cheeks turn pink when you hear how soft his voice is. You can tell how much he loves it and it would be a crime to take it away from him.
“Let me finish the tie part and you can keep it. You look so pretty Hwa, I can’t take it away from you.” You turn away from the mirror and look into his eyes. They are filled with such happiness it makes your heart race.
“I hope you never leave.” He said softly before kissing your cheek. “I think it looks perfect and I’m going to take a picture to show off the boys. You’ll be in trouble soon~” He said laughing before looking for the perfect spot for a photo.
You stood frozen from the kiss. If you were being honest with yourself you didn’t want to leave either. You loved living here and you loved the boys. Though that second thought was to be pushed aside for now. The butterflies in your stomach from a kiss was enough to remind you that the eight boys were your friends, not potential partners.
You feel your phone buzzing and see it’s the group chat. Seems like Seonghwa wasn’t kidding about sending them a picture. It was a mix of compliments and asking for cute gifts. Wooyoung was very vocal in the chat texting how he felt betrayed that Seonghwa got a gift before him.
“Hwa!” You yell looking for him. Following the sound of his laughter. You definitely had to go yarn shopping soon. Though you wouldn’t complain about making a few more gifts for the boys. They had done so much for you, making silly gifts was the least you could do.
You find Seonghwa taking pictures on the patio with a big smile on his face. You smile softly to yourself. You hoped you never had to leave the boys.
a collection of ideas of a post-suspendium Golden Age comics Billy Batson if he ended up in the 21st century (pick any comic continuity
EDIT: IF YOU SEE THIS POST HAVING A WEIRD/REPEATING PARAGRAPH/FORMAT, LET ME KNOW BECAUSE TUMBLR ISNT WORKING FOR MY MOBILE
1.adoption scenario
(If a leaguer wanted to adopt Billy, he’d just show them his birth certificate)
Billy smirking:” Sorry, you can’t legally adopt a grandpa”
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a9ae2aa88b27d76e8b17258b5535682d/d071a94b438bf359-e8/s540x810/ba52ce1095208272c780e9695d488138b729e944.jpg)
2. Billy teasing with a smug boomer voice: “Back in my day, we used to play with atomic machines!”
3. youtube
Billy:thanks for showing me how to use a modern phone (insert friend from 21st century)! But I wonder, where is the tv remote for changing the youtube channel? And Where is the news?
(Friend from the 21st century):*sighs* it’s so over
4. Old friends
Aside from the fawcett city heroes, Billy in this case probably relates more to the older heroes like wildcat, Alan scott or Jay Garrick, maybe they have multiple team ups in the past and would reminiscent over it (the rest having their favorite drinks while Billy preferring his hot chocolate ice cream)
5. Teasing
The younger hero teams who know his identity would teasingly call him a “boomer”, Billy wanted to protest that he technically was born before boomers but they ignored it and still teased him about it.
to the rest of the heroes who didn’t know about his identity, they assume captain marvel is more than centuries old, and thinks this is the reason the kid heroes calls him a boomer.
6. Jokes
Billy: “oh so these memes are like what replaces comic strips i used to read, how nice”
Some of these ideas are taken from the fanfics i’ve written, some just came to me inside my head, but it’s fun to think about it.
(Edited: added more scenarios)
7. Caprisuns
Caprisuns werent invented yet when Billy was in suspendium. After getting out of suspendium, He really likes caprisun.
Other leaguers would be confused, Marvel's liking of caprisun is comparable to Martian Manhunter's love of oreos. When asked about when his capri sun addiction started, Marvel shrugged, "They weren't made before I was born, so it was only recent"
The league is now confused as to how old marvel is. Wonder Woman relates to this with her fascination of ice cream flavors.
8. Billy automatically put on a Mid-atlantic accent whenever he is near a microphone due to his habit and work with Whiz station for his TV segments as well as radio programs.
Whenever Captain Marvel uses a communicator, he unintentionally uses a mid-atlantic accent (this confuses the leaguers, "who is this guy!?"). Some of the leaguers enjoyed listening to his voice
Marvel would occasionally file an audio JL report (yes, with the same mid-atlantic accent) when he's on a hurry and couldn't type it out with his typewriter (he still finds it difficult to use a computer) : "And there you have it, folks! In a nutshell, I managed to handle the There was an outbreak of imps but Mary and I already took care of it, Junior apprehend the acrobat after a terible case of Moonitis, the three of us thwarted Mr. Mind's dastardly scheme to seize control of the sun, and we all prevented Sivana from being promoted to "King of Earth" by hurling his atomic bomb straight into the heart of the sun itself! That's the latest from me, This is Captain Marvel, signing off!"
Leaguer: "Why does he sound like a radio host commenting on a football game?"
Other leaguer:*shrugs*
9. Billy watches a cgi lion movie for the first time
..and thought innocently that there are other talking tigers like tawky tawny.
Some of these ideas are taken from the fanfics i’ve written, some just came to me inside my head, but it’s fun to think about it.
Just Want To Sleep
You're sick, Natasha is stuck working, Wanda is doing her best to help you. (natasha x reader)
Word Count. 1012
----
“Please, you know me, I’m here all the time, I just want to go to sleep!” You half sobbed, pleading with the agent who was just typing away on her keyboard, effectively ignoring your desperate pleas. You shivered in your soaked sweater, wanting nothing more than to curl up in the arms of your girlfriend. Your nose was running but you were so stuffy.
“Ms, you know I can’t let you up without your keycard.” The woman explained, rolling her eyes as tears began to slip down your flushed cheeks.
“I am Agent Romanoff’s girlfriend. I called her, but she was in a meeting and couldn’t pick me up. I lost my wallet, dropped the keys to my apartment in a sewer grate and walked two miles to get here because I don’t have anywhere else to go. Now for the love of all the gods, let me go up or I will break something.” You breathed, your threats muddled with congestion.
“Y/n?” A feminine voice called, pulling you away from where you were probably getting too close to the other woman. You looked over and saw Wanda half jogging over to you, brow furrowed in concern.
“Oh sweetie, what happened to you?” She cupped your cheeks in warm hands and moved one to your forehead, trying to gauge your temperature.
“Wanda, she won’t let me up.” You sobbed, leaning into the arms of your best friend. Wanda slipped her arms around you and glared at the woman behind the desk, rubbing your back as you cried. She didn’t care that you were soaking her clothes, she was too angry. Her eyes glowed red, making the agent cower.
“Come on honey, I’ll have Stark deal with this later. Let’s get you warmed up.” The brunette fussed, walking you to the elevator. She didn’t try to make you stop crying, didn’t push you away and didn’t say anything except to whisper words of encouragement.
“Do you need help changing?” She asked as she led you to the room you and Nat shared when you came over. Embarrassment overcame you as you realized there was no way you could do this on your own. Then there was the sobbing.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to say it out loud. We’re going to get you changed, and I’ll dry your hair while we watch a movie. Nat’s going to be in a meeting with Fury for another hour or so, but I texted her and she’s trying to get out of it.” Wanda talked as she helped you undress, keeping her eyes locked on yours to reduce some of your humiliation.
“Fuzzy PJ’s?” She murmured, rifling through your drawers to find what she knew were your favorite clothes to wear when you were sick. They happened to be Natasha’s clothes, but still. They were your favorites.
“Where’s Tasha?” You sniffled, shivering as she helped you into Natasha’s departmentally issued sweatshirt and her softest sweatpants. She smiled gently and kissed your forehead, smoothing your hair back in a motherly show of comfort.
“Tasha’s in a meeting Y/n. She’ll be out soon, okay? For now, why don’t we get you something for this fever?” She held out a hand that she clearly wanted you to take, but you hesitated, blinking up at her with teary eyes.
“C’mon, you won’t want to get everything in here wet, hm?” You nodded and took the offered hand, allowing yourself to be led into a small living room where she deposited you on the comfortable looking couch. You curled up with a fluffy blanket and stared at the blank TV, only moving to cough into the blanket.
“Alright you, take this and I’ll dry your hair. What do you want to watch?” Wanda plopped down beside you and shoved a cup of medicine into your hand. Too tired to argue, you took it like a shot and leaned into your friend, smiling when she turned on The Lion King. It was your favorite movie of all time and she knew it.
The witch carded her fingers through your hair and began to dry your hair, the hot air soothing the chills and lulling you into a comfortable daze. You felt your head drooping and closed your eyes, allowing the brunette to help you feel better. Your head dropped against your chest and you shot back up, bumping into the hairdryer.
“Woah, easy. Take a nap Y/n/n, it’s okay.” She soothed, pulling you back into her lap. You shrugged mentally and sighed, a painful cough bubbling from your lips. Wanda rubbed your back comfortingly, shushing you softly as you fought back tears. Your throat hurt so badly, but the medicine was already taking effect. This time when sleep beckoned you, you fell into its embrace.
–
When you opened your eyes, you found yourself in a different place. Instead of the couch you fell asleep on, you were curled up amongst a mountain of pillows, a heavy duvet encircling your sick body. You turned your head and squinted at the blurry figure beside you. The blurry figure with the flaming red hair and beautiful green eyes.
“Natty?” You rasped, drawing her from her reading. She set the book aside and pulled you against her chest, holding her tightly in her arms. All of the anxiety from before disappeared. She was here, she was finally here.
“I’m so sorry baby, I’m so, so sorry. You needed me and I couldn’t get you and now-” She broke off, cupping your face in her hands. You smiled sleepily and cuddled close to her, nuzzling into her chest.
“S’okay. You’re workin’. M’tired.” You slurred, exhaustion blurring your words. Natasha kissed the top of your head, her lips lingering against your hair. She didn’t seem to mind that you were sweaty or congested or blubbering all over her, she was just there. Holding you. Being warm and strong.
“You’re perfect, Y/n. You’re always here for me. I should’ve been here for you. But I am now rebenok and I’m not leaving you again.”
So if you could tell everyone about your favorite movie, what would you tell them about it?
PS I love your blog and your media deep dives
Thank you! So kind! Anything good I have to say is really just because of Jesus, not me. I'd tarnish and ruin good things, left on my own.
I keep trying to tell everyone about my favorite movie, but I get so choked with all the things I want to say—and knowing that the more deep I make it seem the less they'll like it because they're not accustomed to deep-diving into children's media and that'll skew their enjoyment of it—that I wind up falling back on the tried and true "it's so good, you have to see it, I can't believe you've never seen it before, we have to watch it!"
It's Lilo & Stitch.
Lilo & Stitch is incredible for so many reasons.
It was an underdog in the Disney Studio. One of their lowest-budget movies, in their B-Team Shabby Florida Studio, and only a handful of higher-ups really believed in it. And now it's one of their biggest, longest-lasting, farthest reaching worldwide franchises.
Disney was stuck in a rut of making only a certain handful of movies; Triumph-of-Humans Adventures, or Princess-Fantasies. And Chris Sanders, the guy who basically invented their Story Department during the "renaissance" period, came along and said, "let's break the mold. Let's just try something small, quirky, bold, and new. Let's flip the script on everything except good storytelling." Instead of Princesses, you get Normal Humans Living in a 2002 rural beach town. Instead of Magic you get Sci Fi—but only like five minutes of Sci-Fi. Instead of a Romance you get Family. And when we say "family," no, we don't mean, "Epic Lion King or Tarzan Coming-of-Age Destiny Stories—" we mean "orphans about to be split up by the foster care system, needing a friend." Instead of Lassie (pet movies, like 101 Dalmatians or Lady & the Tramp.) you get something closer to Gremlins meets E.T. Instead of an Epic Adventure, you get Smalltown Sister Tries to Find a Job. Instead of Dashing or Loveable Main Character you get Mildly Disgusting Main Character who picks his nose and pushes little orphan girls down, for fun. Instead of a Namable Famous City on Earth, like New York or London in their old movies, you get Nameless Town in Hawaii. Instead of Hero Triumphs, you get Villain Redeemed.
The style. All the alien ships look like fish, all the alien creatures look like some take on small-town animals like armadillos or pigs or bobcats, or more aquatic life. And then it matches with what? Small Town Hawaiian Imagery. So you get the idea that not only, stylistically, do the visuals of the movie blend well, but, Stitch not only doesn't belong in outer space among those aliens—he doesn't belong on Hawaii, where even the locals have something in common with the Galactic People, and he does not.
Watercolor backgrounds. Nobody was doing that. Nobody is doing that. They didn't have to do that. It's just beautiful, and soft.
Stitch. As a character. Name one other character whose arc starts with "you can never belong; there is nothing inside of you that is good." and then ends with "loved unconditionally, adopted into a family that loves him in spite of the trouble he brings them. In spite of his inability, at first, to love them back."
Lilo. Lilo is loved that same way by Nani. Nani willingly invites trouble into her already fraught life if it'll make Lilo the tiniest bit happier. Even though Lilo already makes Nani's life hard. Lilo, too, is about to go into the next phase of life with nothing—if the social worker takes her away, she'll have lost her parents, her sister, her home, and her hometown, which she's shown to know and love—and we've already seen how feeling lost and like she doesn't belong causes Lilo to act destructively, because her classmates treat her like she doesn't belong and Lilo beats the crap out of them. The directors said it like this: "Lilo is a future Stitch," if she's taken away.
All these characters have holding them together is this commitment to this definition of family: "Nobody gets left behind or forgotten." Lilo and Nani were "left behind" by their parents, because their parents died. Or they could think of it that way. But Nani doesn't. She does whatever she can to keep Lilo with her, and refuse to "leave Lilo behind." She's eighteen, nineteen—she could go on to college, live in a dorm, while her troublemaking sister goes to foster care. She has all these surf trophies on her nightstand—she could've been somebody if she'd left her family behind. But she doesn't. Whether Lilo loves her back or not, she won't leave Lilo behind. And guess what? Whether David, the surfer boy, gets Nani's love back or not, he loves her and is there for her. Whether Stitch loves Lilo back or not, she sticks with him—until she almost doesn't, but guess what, by then it's okay, because he's learned. He's been transformed by the idea "nobody gets left behind," which is just another term for "unconditional love."
The commitment to FOCUS. Chris Sanders is always good at this. But this movie could've been about, or addressed, DOZENS of social issues. It could've picked up the "government worker" flag. It could've picked up the "racism" flag, or the "classism" flag. It easily could've picked up the "feminism" flag, or the "be yourself" flag, or the "find who you truly are," or the "you're worth everything" flag. But it didn't. It CUT OUT previous scenes that would've addressed racism or classism. It JUST later-focused on one, universal, unifying theme that every human on this planet can understand, and relate to, and needs to be reminded of: "family loves unconditionally."
This movie is why I looked into being a storyteller. Just this movie; no other movie did it for me.
“What do you want to watch?” tatgylb. i imagine mat getting home from a game after mama bear puts ella to bed. mama bear sitting on the couch not doing much and when mat gets home they decide to watch a tv series (right after she moves in)
perfect! i loved this request (i love writing scenes for tatgylb, especially when i'm procrastinating on part 6 lol). and what a soft moment i never ever thought about! thank you for your creativity!!
here it is!
it had been a long day. ella didn't sleep well during the night, and was cranky all day until her afternoon nap (she hardly slept during her morning nap too). when she woke up, she was an angel, but by that point you were dead on your feet.
so you sat her down in her play pin while got her dinner ready. things moved pretty quickly after that, with ella eating dinner and then taking a bath before you put her down to sleep.
you immediately fell into the couch and turned on mat's game while the sound of ella's sound machine reverberated through the baby monitor on the coffee table.
truth be told, you weren't super into hockey before you met mat. you picked up a few things from just the amount of highlight videos you've watched to get a feel for what's impressive and what's not allowed.
but you were still kinda lost without mat there to explain things. you supposed you could text sydney, but she was probably at the game.
so google was your only option. you found yourself googling calls the refs were making at different points in the game.
it wasn't long before the third period ended with the isles losing 4-2.
you were scrolling on your phone when mat came home. he dropped his stuff down at the entry way and mumbled a hello to you before heading back to his room. you thought that was the end of it until he came out in basketball shorts and a seattle thunderbirds tee shirt.
"what're we watching?"
you shrugged, too exhausted to have an opinion. "what do you wanna watch?" you held the remote out towards him and he took it albeit hesitantly.
"anything but espn, i don't think i can take another highlight reel or analytics of my shitty performance tonight." he scrolled through the channels before exiting out and going to disney plus.
he stopped over the animated movies and hesitated. "what's your favorite disney movie? and don't say the lion king, i can't take more sadness."
you shrugged. "maybe you should pick tonight, after all it seems like you've had a shitty day."
"you're slouching and you look dead inside, i think it's safe to say you also didn't have a great day today either."
"we could watch mulan?" mat nodded and pressed play on the movie.
when the music of the intro started playing, you could see him look at your from the corner of your eye.
you hesitated but looked at him anyway. "are you okay?"
he nodded. "in case i don't say it enough, thanks for helping with ella. it means the world to me."
you smiled back, a genuine one that almost hurt your cheeks. "it means the world to me too, mat."
Disney's Hercules: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Inaccuracies
Ah Disney's Hercules.
Now I'm sure I've made it no secret that this is one of my all time favorite movies. Both for it's witty charm and impressive character design, there is something to be said about this film that makes it stand out among the line-up of Disney's Renaissance films. It's not one of it's finest, nor is it your classic fairy tale movie up there with the likes of Beauty and the Beast or Aladdin, but just like Lion King, Hercules takes a unique spin on a timeless tale for a more modern audience.
Perhaps my love of this movie and other Disney films are biased. We had quite a lot of these movies on VHS and since I was still learning english, they were a great introduction before I started kindergarten.
Now as I watch these movies again I'm still surprised how well these movies have aged. I recently rewatched B&B with my dad the other day from flipping channels and even he was blown away with how good these movies really are after nearly 2 decades of not seeing them. It's astounding especially now in an age where we have started to see a decline in the quality of Disney movies. Back when there was a greater focus on art instead of profit.
While there was a rise in harsh criticism on Disney movies and their protagonists(like Snow White, Cinderella, etc) primarily in the 2010's that was perpetuated by internet culture (i.e. memes, Youtube critics, pick your poison) I am glad to see that we are starting to dial it down again and see just how progressive many of these movies were for their day and age.
Now this post isn't about any of that.
There are much better blogs here on tumblr that go into that, so I highly recommend @marciabrady, @artist-issues for their look at early Disney princesses and other similar blogs I will hopefully tag before I post this.
There is one movie though that kinda got the worst treatment and that is, to no one's surprise, Disney's Hercules.
And it's kind of deserved.
Now I'm not here to cast stones. Like I said in the preamble, it's one of my favorite movies and I've written quite a bit of fanfiction in this fandom. So I've done it dirty quite a lot. Sorry HS me, we need to talk a bit.
So instead, we will be going over why the inconsistent depiction of the Greek Mythology presented in this film had to be done and some small examples. Nothing too deep. The Mythology Guy on YouTube made a great video going over all the inaccuracies in the film and I highly recommend giving it a watch if you are interested in learning more about the Greek myth of Herakles.
youtube
With that out of the way, let's get started.
Part I: Child-Proofing
As I've mentioned before in one of my earlier posts, Disney films are made for children. Now that doesn't mean adults can't enjoy it, but the content within the films are primarily so children can watch and enjoy. Sure there are adult jokes and themes that will go over kid's heads, but they are generally pretty minor or toned down enough that can pass the films off as rated G/PG.
After all, Disney films have very easy and digestible morals: true beauty lies on the inside, don't judge people on their background, follow your dreams but don't lose sight on what's important, don't talk to strangers unless they're hot, invite everyone to the christening- things like that.
Disney films for the longest time have been a sort of moral standard since they have such a big influence on Western culture. Because of that, many fairy tales they have made films about tend to throw out some of the more grim and dark details attached to these tales.
Take Cinderella.
In the original Grimm's Fairy Tale, the happy couple ride off into the sunset while her step-sisters get their eyes plucked out by Cinderella's birds. In fact, before that, the step-sister's lopped off bits of their foot to try and fit into the glass slipper, only to be found out as the slipper gets soaked in blood.
Now I don't know about y'all, but I don't see anyone complaining that Disney left out those details. Okay, well the general consensus, at least.
But Cinderella is a classic fairy tale that had many adaptations and versions from across the world that allowed Disney to pull inspiration from, so who cares that they didn't follow the Brothers Grimm line-by-line?
And that's a good point.
There are versions where Cinderella isn't as gruesome. Charles Perrault, another very famous fairy tale author, had his own version of Cinderella where her step-sisters are fully intact by the end of the story. So it's quite obvious Disney was more attached to this version since it was much more decent.
Just like Cinderella, Greek Mythology has hundreds of different versions about just a single myth. You have Hesiod, Homer, Apollodorus, Ovid and those are just the writers from thousands of years ago. Nowadays, we have thousands of modern adaptations, translations, and rewrites of Greek myth to comb through.
There's just so much to choose from! And that's not even considering how interchangeable Greek myth is with its Roman counterpart.
What that means is you're never going to be able to get everyone to agree on one myth. Sure we can agree on certain details, but just like Ancient Greece, every city state had it's own version of a myth.
Herakles or Hercules was no exception.
Yet it's like I alluded to as well. There are some certain details that remain consistent from myth to myth.
Now let's look at a story that doesn't have a lot of versions to pull from, and just like Disney Hercules, it was heavily toned down: The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
This Disney film is arguable the most sanitized of the animated adaptations. A personal favorite of mine that far outranks Hercules in every way, but it was a huge hurdle to adapt.
From Esmeralda's attempted SA and death, racism, Quasi being bound and abused in jail, Phoebus' less than honorable pursuit of Esmeralda, Frollo's creepy obsession and his horrific control over Quasimodo, the religious themes and motifs, it's crazy how Disney was able to adapt it at all.
While it is pulling from Victor Hugo's original novel, there were a dozen films made before it that also tried to adapt this famous tale. The 1939 version of this film starring Maureen O'Hara is one of the greatest films ever made. For it's time, it made an incredible movie that sanitized many of the darker aspects in a way that cemented this classic tale into a more modern audience.
So is it any surprise that a lot was dialed down in Disney's version so children could also understand the message Victor Hugo was trying to tell? That the deformity Quasimodo was born with unfortunately led him to have a very harsh life- not because his disability affected his quality of life, but because of how society viewed/treated him. Their own perception led him to be isolated, ostracized, abused, and pitied. Likewise with beauty and race in Esmeralda's case.
They are different sides to the same coin.
I have a lot to talk about with Quasimodo. The next disney movie I will begin analyzing will be Hunchback, so prepare yourselves as I wrap up on Hercules.
But I digress.
Because Disney films are catered towards children, is it any wonder Hercules got the same treatment?
Part II: Greek Myths for Dummies
Greek Mythology is not an easy thing to adapt for a single film. Disney films, especially animated ones, are gonna get you at most a 90 minute timeslot and that's already a lot to ask for a highly-trained team of animators, musicians, writers, actors, artists, etc.
There are a lot of bases to cover.
Especially since this may very well be a kid's first introduction into Greek mythology. So we have a lot to answer
Like...
Why is Zeus king of the gods? Why does he have so many kids? How does the afterlife work? Why do I have to pay a man to get into hell? Are winged horses normal here? Why are the Titans bad? What goddess is that with the funny flower headband? Why won't they name all the background gods- are they important in the world? Is being compared to Aphrodite a good thing? Why doesn't Zeus realize his brother is trying to kill him? Why can't I have hubris as a treat?
All good questions, dear reader. And with a limited timeslot, there's not a lot they can talk about, so animators are throwing as much visual exposition as possible.
But who is this glittering assemblage?
That's why to understand what's going on you have to have prior knowledge to get what's going on in the background.
Like Lord of the Rings. Big world, lots of story to tell. The Silmarillion will help, but that's already a lot for a first time fan.
And since Hercules is written with kids in mind, it has to be rewritten some. So the established canon is kind of being thrown out the window, rearranged, and patched up like an old man who threw off an emperor's groove.
But Gerald Scarfe and a team of Disney animators managed to combine the former's caricature design style to the Disney standard to create Disney Hercules' unique style.
These gods aren't given the background character design treatment you'll find in other Disney movies, they are very stylized and exaggerated to visually convey their personality, their role in this universe, and if they're good or bad.
And the nice thing is, Greek mythology has an extensive list of symbols associated with each god that allowed Disney's own technicolor pantheon to reflect the very same icons.
Look at Athena above. There's her war helm, her breastplate, a cute little owl. She screams war goddess, but look how gentle she is with the bird. Her glass of nectar is a prop to show off her generosity, her self-restraint, and her desire to keep the peace.
But on the flip side, Ares is in the same get-up as her, war helm, breastplate, but his sword is drawn and his stance is one of action. We can see both these war gods are similar, but their temperaments and approach to war (same as their personalities) are so drastically different, and their color scheme helps so much as well.
It's incredible how much detail was poured into this and while I can go on gushing about the designs, we must push on.
Say what you want about how accurate the greek mythos is shown downgrades the overall movie, but the background story is lining up with a lot of the context we would lose were this in any other medium. The gods, how they look, their personalities- it's there.
It's accurate.
Sure the same cannot be said about the gods and mortals who have a role in the overall story they made, but that's the last issue this post will hopefully tackle.
Part III: A Hero's Journey
While Disney had already dipped their toes into Greek mythology with the likes of Fantasia and Goddess of Spring, Hercules was the first try to make it more than just a short.
So the myth they chose to adapt had to be iconic. They couldn't do it about the gods- that's just too much drama. They needed a hero, someone who struggled and fought and had a support group comprising of supernatural beings. And who is the most famous hero of Greek Myth?
Herakles.
There's just a few slight issues with that, heh...
Herakles is a really rough story.
To summarize, Zeus magics up a disguise to look like the mortal Amphitryon to woo the guy's wife, Alcmene. She gets preggers, Hera finds out and naturally goes ballistic. So Zeus pulls a fast one on his wife to save his kid, and thus Hera nurses baby Herk giving him god-like strength. A few assassination attempts later, Herakles grows up, marries, and has kids. Despite this, Hera isn't done, but she doesn't target the H man anymore, oh no, she sends him into a fit of madness whereby he decimates his entire family. Once it passes he works for a king, like his distant cousin, and he does 12 increasingly intense labors as a sort of penance and at the end of it, he's promised immortality or an indefinite Hera leaves him alone pass. Wonder Boy finishes that, but then he gets infected with centaur blood after taking on his dad's worst personality trait (adultery), he dies via his own funeral pyre, but at the last second his dad saves him and he becomes a god.
youtube
And Disney is gonna try adapting that???
That's about a dozen labors in itself, so how are they gonna do it?
To summarize here are the elements Herakles has going on that can be adapted to your standard Disney film:
Protagonist: Hercules (b/c the Roman version is much more popular)
Damsel in Distress: Megara or Deianeira (most notable love interests in myth)
Side-kicks: Iolaus (Hmm those undertones, huh)
Antagonist: Hera
Flaw: wrath / impetuous/ salacious
Unique ability / quirk: super strength
We have a pretty solid line-up for a story here. But at the time in the 90's, there is already another adaptation of Hercules going on strong: Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
This show first came out in the mid-90's and ended a couple years after Disney's Hercules dropped.
So how are they going to make it distinct from that?
It's really easy actually.
Super easy.
Disney's Hercules got a lot of inspiration from Superman (Christopher Reeves version).
Hercules is literally an innocent farm boy (mild-mannered Clark Kent), Meg is your hotshot spitfire Lois Lane, and Hades is your bald megalomaniac investing millions of dollars trying to axe one guy - Lex Luthor.
And let's be honest, the myth of Herakles reads like a modern superhero. He has super strength, he fights monsters, there's a damsel in distress every now and then- he fits the bill!
At this point in time, Disney didn't have a superhero and since that started to be a bigger appeal as the 90's marched on (*laughs in Marvel*)
It was a smart choice to bridge this tale to the modern time.
So for that reason, if they were going to make Hercules a super hero-esque character. He needed a villain and Hera wasn't going to cut it.
Part IV: A Hera-Shaped Hole
Hera was absolutely vicious in myth. This lady orchestrated the entire demise of Herk's family, his sanity, and his freedom. She wanted him to suffer just so Zeus could see how betrayed she felt every time he had a dalliance with a mortal.
Zeus never learned, but Hera's tactics did. And it was by her hand that sent Hercules into servitude under his cousin, the king. A title Herakles should've had had Hera not intervened.
And while wicked step-mothers are abundant in Disney's canon, it wasn't going to work because she's Zeus' wife. Yes, Hera received repercussions for starting a coup against her husband once in myth, but it was a brief punishment. Most of the time this couple can't stand each other, but they are what's keeping the pantheon together. And Hestia's cooking.
But here's the thing, Hera may be a bad person in this myth and others involving sons of Zeus, but she's a good person in other myths. Even at the beginning of this one, Hera found an abandoned baby and nursed him because he was all alone and crying out of hunger. She has her virtue, she's a good queen.
Yet with her iconography of peacocks, marriage, family, cows, and queen of the heavens and gods, she gives off very ethereal imagery.
This was the lady sending monsters and horrors of Typhon and Echidna's brood- that's her?
It can be done, I'm sure someone will do it better than Blood of Zeus, but it's much harder to adapt, especially with Treasure Planet on the duo of director's mind.
Just see Lindsey Ellis' Disney Hercules video, you'll understand.
But y'know that thing with the monsters.... Kinda cool. Monsters coming in from the pits of hell- pretty rad i guess. Well who else could throw a litany of monsters at our little hero?
Oh.
Yeah, okay, fine.
Hades, you're hired.
Yeah, the direction of this movie absolutely did a backflip the second the writers wanted Hades as their villain.
However, based on concept art, this was something they wanted from the very start and I'm sure we can all see the appeal.
I mean as soon as this movie came out so many other greek myth adaptations jumped to make Hades a bad guy, and like kudos to y'all, but this really is the easiest god you can paint as a villain. Home boy literally is dark and dank and emo as can be. Congrats we found another goblin sewer man to dress up as the mustache twirling evil-doer!
Like... This writes itself.
And pitting a god of the dead vs a mortal who's striving for immortality? It's poetry. It's an on the nose symbolism. I can't make it any clearer.
There's even an excerpt in Revelations that Disney references:
"Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire." 20:14 (NIV)
Hades is written as a Devil character. He's a deal maker, soul stealer. There's so much you can do with a Mephistopheles archetype. It's always a show stopper, I mean Ursula did it with extra steps.
Hera is a goddess of the heavens. Hercules is fighting the heavens to get into Heaven(TM). That's all kinds of complicated to simplify in a kid's film.
We want a villain to be scary, to be mean, and unjustified in their cruelty.
Hera wasn't going to work since Herakles' mother (though unwillingly) is the other woman. It would paint Zeus as another morally bad person. Why on earth would Herc look up to that guy? In fact, why would he want to join a band of morally corrupt people?
So let's make a new villain.
We can have the hero endure a different kind of pain.
The damsel's story doesn't have to end tragically because of a betrayal.
Make the story relevant and simple.
What archetypes can we match up to make this ancient myth fit into the modern day?
Make it clean, and make it understandable for kids. Throw in as many myths as possible so kids can see how big this world is.
The mythology is wrong, sure, but we'll spark that interest. We can make mythology fun. It'll make kids curious to learn more about them.
It certainly worked for me, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Part V: Conclusion
This movie is an absolute blast. I think many fans can agree and though the story does have its issues (See Conflicts series), it did it's job. With such a fun and memorable cast, lovingly animated characters, and mind-melting musical numbers, it stands uniquely among the other adaptations of Greek Mythology and perhaps it's why there was a bit of a resurgence in it's popularity as time marched on.
Herakles is a tale of struggle, sacrifice, and courage. One man battled and fought to achieve the divine, but at the end of his life, he did what few other mortals were ever able to do.
And Disney's Hercules took that character and developed him in such a loving way. To see his struggle both internal and external, it's a beautiful circle when he accepts his mortality and gives up his greatest dream for love. He didn't belong anywhere, caught between heaven and earth. Yet somehow he found it with someone who had been through hell and was hungry for heaven.
And just remember.
Not every work of fiction has to adhere to these magical bylaws that dictate how your Greek Myth AU must follow. However, I would like to softly counter-point my own point and say if you are going to make interpretations of greek mythology, be they musicals, video games, fanfics, or modern retellings, one must include the soul of the character they are based on. Hadestown, Hades(the game), Percy Jackson (most of the time), and the God of War franchise being prime examples.
Disney's Hercules took these characters and made them more exaggerated and updated to fit modern archetypes that are prominent in a Western Christian based-society. To me, I still see the soul of what these characters represent, even if some things were heavily condensed or rewritten.
Stories evolve. As is the nature of living things.
Till next time, Dear Readers.
you seem really odd and your blog intrigues me, do you want to tell me more about Alicia, Buck's daughter, in texas!buddie au? pretty please?
HELLOOOOHOHOHOOOOOOOOOOO
You too seem really odd and your blog intrigues ME! Of COURSE I will tell you more about Alicia and Texas!Buddie this is a literal dream come true skndkskdkdn
You’ve opened a can of worms so I cannot be held responsible for the yapping that ensues ❤️
Alicia is 6 when she is sent to live with Buck
She was born in San Antonio Texas, where her mom and grandparents migrated to before she was born
She is the spitting image of Buck. She’s got his smile, his nose—even has a birthmark to match his—except she’s got dark hair and dark eyes. I am obsessed with the idea of Maddie doubting that this kid is even her baby brother’s up until the moment she sees her and then she’s like 😳
Alicia is fluent in both Spanish and English. Truly a bilingual queen
She definitely prefers Spanish, though, and the first time Eddie meets her she is incredibly shy about it, and then Buck whispers something to Alicia in Spanish, which Eddie hears and is like “Oh worm?” And starts talking to her in Spanish and of course she’s immediately obsessed with him
Her favorite show is Bluey, her favorite movie is The Lion King
She wants to be a Paletera when she grows up, because paletas make people happy and she wants to make people happy
This isn’t necessarily about Alicia, but I’m obsessed with the idea of her grandparents HAAAAATING Buck. Even though Buck is like. The absolute best to them and Alicia—they just can’t get past Buck being the gringo who knocked up their baby girl and then ran away back to America
Until they meet Buck’s actual parents and then they both decide “Hm. You know what? Actually fuck them, you’re ours now” and Buck is so weirded out but ultimately thinks it’s sweet
I think it would be fun if Eddie somehow orchestrates the meeting of the Buckleys and Alicia’s parents lol just so he can show them that Buck has enough asshole parents in his life
Scenarios?? You want scenarios??? I GOT Scenarios (TM) just you WAIT BABEYYYY
So this one has been rattling around my brain for a while. Chris is 16, Buck and Eddie have been married for years at this point and Chris BEGS Buck and Eddie to teach him how to drive. And Eddie of course is so soooo wary about it because it’s Christopher, that’s his son. And he never wants to discourage his kid but with his disability there are some things that are just more dangerous for him to do
But of course, they both cave—Bucks does copious amounts of research, they make the necessary adjustments, get any accommodations and modifications needed. It takes a long while, but Chris gets his license! Yay! He can drive! With limitations of course. Only with a parent in the passenger seat, and with prior approval.
It would ideal (for me. The whump bitch) if maybe Chris got into an argument with Buck and Eddie before this whole next part. Because I said so ❤️ but basically they tell him he’s not allowed to go somewhere (maybe a party??) because both of them have to work and can’t drop him off and he’s like “I can drive myself!” and they’re like the fuck you can! Besides, he’s been begging them for more responsibility, so he offered to watch Alicia.
Alicia, in an attempt to cheer her brother up, talks him into taking her to see the latest paw patrol movie “And maybe we can even stop by that girl’s party afterward!” And Chris is pissed at his dads and sold
Meanwhile, back at the 126, things are relatively easy. Until they get a call for FD at a two car collision just off the highway. One vic is stuck behind the wheel of the car. Other car has two vics, both minors. One male teen, female child in the passenger seat
As they arrive in the scene, Buck starts venting to Eddie because “What the hell kind of parent is letting their little girl in the front seat of a car. Don’t they know that those airbags are death traps for kids?”
“Buck—”
“I’m just saying. Someone should talk to those parents, if this kid makes it out of here.”
“Buck.”
And finally Buck stops, grounded by Eddie squaring his shoulders and pointing him to the wreckage.
That’s their car.
The exact make and model and Buck doesn’t believe in god but he starts praying anyway as he and Eddie sprint to the car, that the license plate isn’t theirs.
It is. That’s their daughter in the passenger seat, bleeding and unconscious. That’s his kid behind the wheel, fighting against the firefighters trying to get him out of there, screaming for his sister. And then he’s looking at Buck, and his face just crumples.
And he collapses into Buck’s arms, a wet mess of sobs and apologies and Eddie is pulling Alicia’s body out of the passenger seat and checking her vitals and performing rescue breaths on her and Christopher is asking “What’s going on, what’s happening, what are they doing with her?” And Buck just holds him so Chris doesn’t have to watch
Anyway. I just think that would be really neat!
So funny thing about me is that I don't watch many movies and the ones I do are mostly because they're terrible. I say mostly only bc Godzilla and TLK are on here and they're peak. Otherwise take a look at my ass selection. Good day
Welcome!
Welcome to the Smallest Lions Jungle! This is a SAFE FOR WORK Age Regression and Pet Regression blog. SAFE FOR WORK INTERACTIONS ONLY PLEASE! (DNI at the end of the post)
Get to Know me! Hello! You can call me Lion, Jazzy, or Sofi!
My big age is 20, about to be 21! My regression age is 1-5, leaning towards the younger side. I'm also a system (trauma related, I'm not super familiar with all the terminology yet). I won't talk much about DID and the facets of that on here much, but it's worth noting if there's a period where I just do not exist for a while :3 My pronouns are They/He/it, I'm nonbinary Masc leaning, FTM Trans. I love to draw, and write, and collect plushies! I have a lot of pets, a Dog, Three snakes, and a leopard Gecko. My favorite colors are Pink and Yellow!
Here's a list of my regression aesthetics and a bit about why I like them! Lion King (1994 Version) - I really like the jungle and nature in general. Lion King was one of the first movies I remember watching as a young kid! I love 2D animation and the charming quality it has. It inspired me when I was younger before I lost the drive to do art for a while. Space - I like the semi isolation and comfort I get when I look up at the big sky, all those stars, so much to learn and see. So many amazing colors and opportunities to expand and do cool new science things.
Dinos - History has always fascinated me but there's something special about the dino period of it all. I'm not super smart or knowledgeable when it comes to them, but I love their big stompers. Dinos also remind me of a very long time friend I have! Paw Patrol - I love dogs, in fact I have a dog, she's my service animal! I do love the more subtle kids shows like Bluey but there's something so nice about turning my brain off and watching an obvious lesson kid show. Chase is my favorite! Bluey - I think it's self explanatory about why I love Bluey so much. It really became special to me when I was still in high-school. I had bad dreams that shook me to my core, so I stayed home from school with my grandma and wed watch some to make me feel better.
Regression Activities! (age regression) Here are some Regression activities I really like when I'm small! Coloring Playing pretend Playing with my Littlest Pet shops Watching a Small TV show Running around outside when it's sunny out! Napping with Bubuh (Fictional Caregiver) (more to be added as I'm able to regress more and find out what i like)
Regression activities! (Pet Regression) Here are some Pet Regression activities I really like when I'm puppy! Running around on all fours Playing with my chew toy Getting pets from Bubuh! (Fictional Caregiver) Going to the park Learning new tricks. Playing with my friends!
Miscellaneous Regression Information! Regression, whether it be age or pet, is really hard for me. I live with two people who don't quite get it, so I feel strange. My old therapist also said that it could be a dangerous coping mechanism so I've been very hesitant to try and reconnect with that side of me. Due to that I don't know how often ill post, or how often I'll lurk. I don't have an actual Caregiver, and if I ever did get one they'd have to be my romantic partner. Not because I want romantic stuff when in little space, but because of how I grew up, romantic love and care is easier to accept than platonic or familial. I have a corner in my room dedicated to regression! It's got so many fun activities, I'll post pictures of it once I finally have it unearthed from a pile of boxes hehehe.
Dark Christmas: The Lion in Winter (1968)
Festive beverage: Beajolais V.illages, Louis Jadot
I embarked on this rewatch with the 1183 appropriate meal of a roast chicken (in an oven, not on a spit, sadly) and light-bodied French wine.
We love Peter O'Toole in this house, but for me this has always been Katherine Hepburn's movie. It doesn't truly start until the scene where Henry's messenger, having taken the two sons who do not live with Henry completely by surprise, walks in to find her expecting him. Every line of hers is unforgettable, but my personal favorite is, "I could peel you like a pear and God Himself would call it justice."
This is directed at Henry, who, despite having more power than everyone else put together, continually presents himself as in need of compassion, and it takes all of O'Toole's charm to stop him from being completely insufferable. But then almost every character in James Goldman's play, on which the film is based, views themself as the most sympathetic character. The one who actually earns that position is Henry's powerless young lover Alais, who aptly says of her position, "Kings, queens, and knights everywhere you look, and I'm the only pawn." True words for so many young women forced into political marriages throughout history, but how many of them get to say it?
The 1960s was a great decade for dysfunctional families on the American stage, and this adaptation is one of my favorite 60s films, but I never think to actually watch it at Christmas. That needs to change because what says Christmas more powerfully than love soured not only by betrayal but by time and absence? The two other Christmas films I've watched so far this season are Home Alone (1990) and Krampus (2015) and, honestly, commonalities among the three abound.
#dark christmas#the lion in winter 1968#peter o'toole#katherine hepburn#james goldman#god i didn't even touch on anthony hopkins' richard#or timothy dalton as his devious ex#i may have to write a part 2 for this one!
Some OC headcanons :] I am very proud of this
Small TW: non realistic pink blood in Gacha life 2
Iris | Dream SMP: They can actually survive multiple wounds, or one big life threatening wound, that would normally kill someone else. If her body is wounded enough she'll pass out for a while and then wake up hours later, completely fine. They can scare a lot of people with this, some are more used to it than others.
(I had too much fun with this headcanon to the point I made an example 🤣)
They'd join Squid Game (season two probably) oblivious to the fact that the games are deadly with the mindset that the games are just fun child games. Her favorite game would be Mingle and Red Light Green Light. They'd also win all the games with the same exact mindset. Oh and they'd be besties with Thanos. (Jk- she thinks they're besties but she's really just keeping him hostage with her eerieness and he doesn't want to get on her bad side bc he's seen it before).
Their Spotify playlist with newer song additions! I like this one better (biased opinion)
They usually help Sam with redstone and building additional protective mechanisms to the prison, and to Sam, she's surprisingly good at it.
Iris likes to surprise XD with flowers and cool rocks, and sometimes the occasional emerald, saying it reminds them of him.
Iris has a terrible memory, and often forgets small things like names, the date, and if they already said something about something. This often ends in them calling someone a very random and incorrect nickname.
Kyloka | My Hero Academia: They had a small tooth gap as a kid that closed on its own.
The order of timeline: Kyloka gets into UA along with class 1-A, but they fail at getting into the hero course due to getting knocked out early on in the exam. They get recruited for the support course though. They lost their parents during Stain's arc, and Kyloka joined League of Villains a little after Dabi and Toga joined, but before the Training Camp arc, and they were captured during the Gunga Villa arc by Hawks early on in the fight.
Orion | Non-fandom: Orion has a love-hate relationship with sad movies. Nereza loves sad movies, so bc he loves them (/platonic), he'll watch a sad movie with them, thinking he'll enjoy it, only to cry and want cuddles the rest of the day (/platonic). It's an unfortunate cycle.
Nereza | Non-fandom: Their favorite song is End of Beginning, fourth of July, and Harpy Hare. Their favorite movie is The Notebook, Lion King (1994), and basically most Disney movies, with their favorite Disney princess being Tiana.
Atlas | Creepypasta: They have a very weak immune system, and get sick easily as well as for a long duration. Also very sensitive/weak against cold, so they hate winter and snow for this reason.
Kali | Dream SMP: Simpppp- well, a heartbroken simp, but still :>
Kali was a member of a few servers before the Dream SMP server and had a girlfriend named Natalie, but Kali unfortunately died (their server didn't have the three-canon-lives rule), leaving Natalie alone the rest of the duration of the time of the server.
Kali and her wifeyboo are my OCs with the most AUs/Gacha designs!
Peaceful/IRL AU
Hamilton AU
And their past versions
Before Kali didn't die when she did, her and Natalie wanted to get married, but never got around to doing so.
Order of events (hopefully simplified bc it's confusing as hell): Kali and Natalie get together; Kali dies; Natalie is left alone by herself; Natalie dies; the end of their server; many servers later the Dream SMP starts; Kali is reincarnated as a demigod; Natalie is reincarnated as Niki; Niki has no memory of Kali.
Two silly/cute/sad playlists I made of them! The pictures are their past versions.
(please notice the second to last song in the second playlist.)
Samantha | Dream SMP: They thrive on chaos (as well as alcohol), so that's one of the reasons he moved to Las Nevadas. She also heavily believes and worships DreamXD, the reason for them wearing their necklace and bracelet.
Samantha often likes to tease and mess with Sam (the warden) with their nickname Sam. Sam doesn't necessarily hate this, even being fond of it.
They like to cross dress very often, such as wearing a suit or her male Las Nevadas employee uniform, and wearing light makeup, and more ways.
[REDACTED]/Riley | Weirdcore: They hallucinate fairly frequently.
Their favorite hallucination they get is Mr. Banana Man, who they treat as a shop regular, reluctantly taking the offer of any bananas he tries to get [REDACTED] to accept. For some reason, any bananas they take from Banana Man stays whenever he leaves.
404 | Main persona/OC/fandomless: They are a computer glitch that was given a physical form, but something happened that made them glitch constantly. Her creator also accidentally copied their code and made what is their masc version.
Glitch is very competitive, and likes to compete against her male counterpart, and basically anyone that challenges her.
Err actually, I was talking Disneys DTV sequels (wel a few of them were theatrical) to their animated canon films.
YES! I enjoyed all of those. I grew up with them. I know they're not all high-quality, I know they all had much lower budgets, and in some cases, completely different tones or poorer writing, but when you're watching them you can genuinely see that the people making them did their research and were big fans of the source material. (I think the sequels to Hunchback and Atlantis were both straight-up garbage. But I love the concept of Madeline, and I like that Atlantis got to be revisited; the original deserved that!) My nostalgic favorites are Lady and the Tramp 2, Patch's London Adventure, Stitch Has a Glitch, The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, Cinderella 3: A Twist in Time, and The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning. I have seen every single Disney animated sequel there is. All of them. I have seen them all. And I love them all. The thing is, these live action remakes are absolutely cash-grabs. 100%. They are only made to make money or to "clean up" some sort of 'political' thing that modern-day Disney would like certain vitriolic crowds today to forget from the originals, and they are terrible. The remakes are crap. The old, direct-to-video-ish sequels of the animated Disney films may have been monetarily-motivated, sure. Maybe. But when you're watching those, they are obviously, clearly trying to continue a story that they loved. They're doing their best to animate and recreate the magic with what limited funds and tools they have. Everyone is (usually) in-character, and the progression of the stories all make sense. Plus there is no need for the music to go as hard as it often does in these sequels, but graciously, it does! There's so much heart in the DTV sequels. So much. I can forgive lots of mistakes, or lacking animation, and I can forgive awkward writing, even, because often I can see what the Disney teams wanted and how excited they were to be revisiting those beloved Disney stories, and I applaud them. They were just playing pretend! Writing fanfiction! But they got to actually make movies while they did it, and call them canon. Give me that- Don't get me started on the new characters and concepts these sequels introduce. Who among us didn't love Melody as kids? Or Scamp, or Angel? Madeline is a doll, with darling character design, in spite of being part of arguably the worst Disney sequel. Did you see Anastasia get together with the baker?! Did you see them make an entire third Cinderella film based on that one concept?! Please tell me more about Lilo's mother! Please tell me about the girl Kenai used to play with, Nita, who is bound in an innocent love to him forever in the eyes of the ancestors because of a wooden necklace! Give each of Ariel's sisters personalities and for the love of Pete, tell me everything about her mother and why Triton hates humans! Jane Darling, from the very last chapter of the original Peter Pan story, brought to life in war-torn London and sent to Neverland to learn she is still a child and should be a child while it lasts? The opposite of what her mom needed to learn in the original? Wow, the Emperor of China has three daughters and they long to have normal lives and they fall in love with Chian Po, Yao, and Ling - yes please! Bernard proposed to Miss Bianca! SIMBA HAD A DAUGHTER AND SHE MET AND FELL IN LOVE WITH A BROWN LION NONE OF YOU SHOULD HAVE CRUSHED ON? TELL ME MORE. Bambi 2 made me cry, Tarzan 2 made me cry, Stitch has a Glitch made me cry, Cinderella 3 made me cry, I am telling you that John Rolfe is ten times better than John Smith even if Pocahontas 2 was awful, why yes, I did want to learn about how Timon met Pumba, how did you know? Who doesn't want to see more of Tod and Copper being happy as children before it all fell apart? Shanti gets more screen time! Stitch has 625 cousins! Kronk! Fell! In love! I said don't get me started- Yes, huge difference between these sequels and the live action remakes. And I will go to my grave supporting them.
i guess i should put down some notes.
snow white was nice. quite the accomplishment for humanity from what i heard. but... honestly, i fell asleep halfway through watching it. still liked it, though. it's relaxing.
same with pinocchio, except i think i had nightmares about it as a kid. can't remember much, though. must've just been weird childhood stuff. you know how it is.
fantasia and its remake(?) are the kind of movies i like to watch late at night. and by late at night, i mean 2am.
dumbo's cool. not much to say about it.
i actually really liked bambi as a kid. dunno why, it must've been all the cute animals. now, it's just a nice movie to watch for nostalgia's sake.
i don't remember much of the three cabilleros.
i only really remember the mickey and the beanstalk story. you know why. you know why.
ichabod and mr toad scared me so badly as a kid i still can't watch it now. nope.
honestly... i actually really liked the mouse scenes the most in cinderella. i dunno, i just didn't care for the main plot all that much. i didn't come for that. i came for goofy mice shenanigans, that's what i like to see.
alice in wonderland made me laugh a few times. great movie.
i liked the captain hook stuff, but i, uh, also got bored halfway through the movie. it takes a lot to keep this skeleton's attention, i'll tell you that.
lady and the tramp was soooo cute. what? the plot? uhh... two cute dogs go on adventures? and spaghetti comes in, i think? cute dogs, though.
i got called sleeping beauty once. to this day, i can't decide whether i'm flattered or offended.
even more cute dogs, this time, most of them are babies. gosh darn it, i want a dog... not 101 of 'em though, hell nah.
maaaaaaagic wizaaaaaard dueeeeel. and that sums up all i remember about it.
i wonder if papyrus hates the jungle book because of how many times i made him watch it. i still love that movie.
robin hood, but animals? sign me up, please. i love me a chaotic good fox hero.
winnie the pooh is cute. that's all i have to say about it.
i think my brother watched the rescuers. personally, i don't remember ever watching it.
the fox and the hound... i think i might cry just thinking about it. yup, i can cry.
the black cauldron scared me a lot as a kid. hey, i was a skittish kid, alright?
the great mouse detective was a cool movie. i would rewatch it just for the ratigan scenes.
why should i worry? why should i care?
the little mermaid! oh, it's one of my favorites. i love laughing at how stupid everyone was. one of the best films to rib on, in my opinion. and ribbing is how i show my love.
beauty and the beast is a classic, of course. so is aladdin. and the lion king... and the hunchback of notre dame. these are all really good movies.
greek mythology has always been fascinating to me. and while this movie got it completely wrong, it's still entertaining, so it gets a pass.
mulan was great, but it still scared me as a kid. unlike ichabod and mr toad and the black cauldron, though... i think it actually made me like it more? huh.
hehehehehehehe, that hunter's death in tarzan still catches me off-guard. i'm sure papyrus hates me for laughing at it every time...
you just gotta understand the comedic genius behind the emperor's new groove? are there more thrilling, dramatic, emotional movies out there? yes. but are they the emperor's new groove? no. i rest my case.
atlantis and treasure planet are awesome and underrated. go watch 'em.
i know i should be enamored by the goofy alien that is stitch like the rest of you, but watching lilo and stitch just makes me wanna hug my brother and cry. i don't know why.
brother bear is cute. and that's all i remember of it.
is it weird to say that i liked home on the range? i mean, it wasn't a great movie, but i liked the villain. it's just a really goofy movie, i just can't.
chicken little... eeeehhhhh. no. just no.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee meet the robinsons eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. what? you haven't watched it? G o w a t c h i t . N o w .
the animals were cute, but bolt is just okay.
the princess and the frog had great music. and talking animals. and it's funny. what else could i ever want?
the whole time i watched tangled, i kept thinkin' about what it would be like to have hair that long. like... wow, rapunzel. what hair products do you use? can i borrow some? papyrus really needs some for his own "luscious locks".
wreck it ralph is cute and fun and it made me cry. okay, it didn't actually make me cry, not really, but i cried on the inside. does that count?
ugh... don't tell my brother this. i used to like frozen, but papyrus ruined it for me by screaming the songs at the top of his ribs 24/7. it just gives me a migraine, honestly. left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. wait... teeth? however i taste, it tasted sour. and it wasn't the sweet and sour kind, either.
big hero 6 was probably the first movie to make me sob as an adult. freaking tadashi, man. i could almost imagine papyrus in his place. don't tell him i said that.
remember, anything after this message ain't canon... yet.
i liked zootopia. animals. it's just not my favorite, that's all.
moana made me laugh a lot, actually. i still quote shark head to my brother, hehehe.
ralph breaks the internet was fine as a movie, but i was honestly bored by it. the most entertainment i got out of it was making fun of it. it was okay, but i wouldn't watch it again.
the frozen sequel. okay. papyrus hasn't ruined this movie for me. yet. i'm still wary, though.
i found encanto surprisingly cute. i don't know why, i just did. maybe it's the whole "fixing a family" thing. i'm a sucker for stories like that.
wish was weird. i dunno, it just felt off to me. i guess it was okay for what it was...
