Thirty-nine years ago today, on July 6, 1985, “Invincible,” the lead single from Pat Benatar’s sixth studio album, Seven the Hard Way, was released. The featured theme song for the 1985 film The Legend of Billie Jean, starring Helen Slater, the song typified the youth-in-rebellion, rock anthems (“Hit Me with Your Best Shot,” “Love is a Battlefield,” “We Belong,” et al,) at which Benatar excelled. The song peaked at #10 in the US and is Benatar’s last US top ten hit.

I liked the part with the hooting and hollering.

Every time I thought the tone of this movie was getting a bit over the top it doubled down on the absurdity. 

One completely implausible turn of events after another gives rise to an all out teenage rebellious movement, led by pretty redneck girl turned icon Billie Jean. The Joan d'Arc theming was a little confusing because, aside from short hair and persecution, they really didn't seem to have much in common. They really wanted it to be a thing though, so it just keeps coming up anyway.

Somehow in five minutes flat she was not only able to perfectly cut and style her own hair with nothing but a pair of scissors, but also managed to apply flawless makeup and fashion herself a new outfit. Everyone knows the best way to fly under the radar is to make yourself instantly recognisable then send out a press release video of your new look. She absolutely rocked the short hair though, so it's hard to fault her for wanting to flaunt it a little. 

I really struggled to hear that her brother's name was Binx without picturing Jar Jar. Worst character decision of the movie is a toss up between him planning to wave a fake gun at armed police, and pretty much every decision Peter Coyote's detective made for no good reason.

Silly in premise and cheesy in tone, but pretty good overall.
