you didn’t know how or why, but somehow, your feet brought you to the same place you and diluc last spoke before he graduated. the night air was cold yet also relaxing for someone like you, who has a lot on their mind.

“hey,” you hear an all too familiar voice behind you. even after all these years, your hearing knows exactly what he sounds like.

“what are you doing here?”

if you could use two words to describe your situation right now, it would be fucking awkward. what are you even supposed to do? the man you loved when you were seventeen is suddenly back, like nothing happened (then again, nothing really happened between the two of you). do you say hi? do you ask him how he’s been for the past seven years? 

do you walk away again, just like that day?

“... how are you lately?” hesitation leaks from his tone.

“fine. you?”

“i’ve been well.”

can this get any worse? it’s just so awkward—you might as well crawl into a hole and die rather than face your (greatest love) stupid first love from back then.

“i… i read your email.” shit. you’re probably going to regret saying that.

“oh? i’m glad.”

seven years. seven years since you both lost contact. seven years ever since diluc ragnvindr crashed into your life. seven years, ever since you two were just having your own fun in the library (though the nostalgia makes it feel like it only happened yesterday).

it has been seven years since you fell in love with him.

you nodded to him, avoiding eye contact. “i was… quite hesitant to open it back then, really. and once i’ve read it, i had no idea what to feel. was i supposed to feel ecstatic because my feelings were actually reciprocated? or was i supposed to hate you because you made me believe in love yet you didn’t even bother trying out long distance?” you said, sighing. “i really did love you, you know. i may have been seventeen and a tad bit dumb, but i knew enough that my feelings were real.” 

“because you will always be my first love.”

it was silent for a moment. “cliche, isn’t it?” you chuckled weakly. why are you even telling him all of this? what a way to let him know that you never really moved on after all this time.

“no, it isn’t cliche,” diluc hesitantly replies.

“really? how so?”

“because.. i marked your email as one of my favorites so that whenever i was missing you, i’d read it” he replies.

 your head perked up when you heard that, and your eyes immediately met his. “you… missed me?”

“why wouldn’t i miss you?”

“i… i  thought you found someone else when you moved… i thought you forgot about me—about everything—and had some sort of life restart abroad,” you stammered. diluc takes a step towards you as your mind starts replaying that day again.

a hand travels to your cheek, cupping it ever so gently. he’s scared to lay a hand on you again. but for diluc, he thinks he might not get any opportunity like this ever again. his thumb grazes over your cheekbone slightly, minding his actions and making sure they don’t make you uncomfortable. and then he whispers:

“do you think that i could ever forget you?” his eyes don’t leave yours even for a second. “do you think that i would allow myself to be happy with someone else? when i have clearly promised you that i will come back for you?”

“after seven long years, (name), you’re still the one my heart calls for, and i don’t think that fact will ever change.”

“are you sure?” you asked him back in a whisper.

“positively.” 

fuck it.

you pulled him in for a kiss. it was gentle and slow as your hands traveled to his nape and pulled him closer. diluc’s hands placed themselves on your waist, and you could feel your heart beating hard. 

and just as diluc hoped, you did welcome him back with open arms.

You can’t just say perchance!

However, I am absolutely honored to be asked. All takes place after junior year.

This one, I thought of after the little epilogue they had. With them hinting that Adaine and Aelwyn will hunt their mother down maybe during summer break, they will probably need a little party of their own to do that.

So the rest of the bad kids are busy. Kristen and her four-god pantheon, Riz trying and failing to de-stress, Fig’s podcast with Sandra Lynn ep. 69, Fabian buffing up to welcome his new sibling, Gorgug probably busy in his new bench with Mary Ann. And going back to the forest of Sylvaire is certainly going to be difficult for just two wizards.

Jawbone trying to both be a helpful parent and school counselor, suggests they bring trg or now high five heroes(?), let's face it they need some practical applications outside school.

Adaine absolutely hates this idea and does not think another wizard would be useful (she strongly emphasizes that Oisin should be excluded)

Aelwyn provides her own sassy remarks but surprisingly becomes the mediator when an argument happens, which is often.. usually when Oisin tries to refine parts of the plan and puts forward his many “better” ideas which, of course, he has.

And even when Adaine admits to herself that his plan makes more sense she doesn’t ever give up an argument. At first, Oisin doesn’t reciprocate but his cattiness comes out and the whole thing just escalates.

During travel when the silence is too awkward, Oisin will start talking about a book he really likes, and Adaine just roasts his taste even though she probably thinks the opposite.

They may have saved each other from dying multiple times in combat and will awkwardly say thank you after.

There are times when the forest gets too dark and Adaine remembers the last time she was there and how scary it was to face her fears alone. She often wonders if it was the same when Oisin died before getting forced with a rage star in him.

Sometimes they stay up talking at night when she can’t trance and finds him the only one still awake.

When they start to become familiar with each other’s magic, they become totally in sync during a battle (the rest of the group pretends not to notice how good they work together).

Sometimes Oisin wonders how Adaine would know something about his magic that he didn’t talk about (in my head, when tbk snooped around Ruben’s house and Adaine was in his wizard’s tower, I think she studied everything she found and probably took some of his stuff too, perhaps his quill and Oisin certainly notice it missing and wonders how it got into Adaine’s backpack. He doesn’t take the quill back after seeing that Adaine likes using it.)

Adaine also would threaten Oisin to teach her how he created the spells inside ping pong balls all while making remarks about what he did.

Oisin carries Boggy around when the familiar doesn’t immediately follow Adaine. Adaine just assumes Boggy always follows her and Oisin secretly likes stealing Boggy, who is just happy to be here because he now has two parents.

I think Oisin’s crush on Adaine dissipates and only comes back 10x harder at the end of their quest when he sees how capable she is.

Here’s a fun one. Coming back after their adventure, a party at Seacaster Manor in anticipation for senior year.

Adaine gets drunk on bad baby milk and insists on playing beer pong with Oisin.

Ivy is teasing because Oisin actually cannot make a shot (for real, not on purpose).

The drunker Adaine gets the more careless she becomes and hurls the ping pong ball at Oisin and boy do they hurt.

Bickering starts and tbk and trg are no help until Ragh intervenes and puts them on time-out upstairs. Bad idea.

Probably for the first time, Adaine admits that she thought he was cute and bluntly asks him if it was all a ruse to undermine her party and WHY HE MESSAGED HER SORRY AT THE CAFETERIA he could have just not said anything and left her alone.

Oisin does admit that he did like her then and he still likes her now, but the rest of senior year is just Oisin groveling.

Adaine has many times placed ping pong balls with spells written in them in his locker so that when he opens it, his things just fly out and he has to clean it up (I rewatched the scene and Adaine’s really disappointed expression tells me she will not let this go). trg finds this absolutely hilarious and are the ones who kept telling her his locker combinations.

Oisin continues therapy sessions with Jawbone and they find each other there after school.

One time Adaine accidentally left Boggy in Jawbone’s office so Oisin comes to her after to return him.

And every single time after that, Adaine just leaves Boggy on purpose. Jawbone notices (because Boggy just stares at him with his big round eyes. Boggy knows what to do even when Adaine doesn't tell him) but doesn’t say a thing.

One time, tbk are outside on one of the benches when Oisin comes to return Boggy, Kristen’s like, "What’s going on are you co-parenting?"

There’s no formal conversation, just a mutual understanding that Adaine isn’t angry anymore and trusts Oisin to always bring Boggy back.

Do they talk during these interactions? Not at first. But after it became a routine, now they hang out in the library, in Mordred Manor, and of course at Basrar’s.

Some days, Adaine doesn’t leave Boggy at all and Oisin just knows to find her at the end of the day.

This might have been too long.

I cannot write romance for the life of me but I try. Perchance these would suffice because this is a crisis and we are in drought!

Because the joy in weekly shows is theorizing like mad and (壊せよセオリー I guess) Bravern hopes and dreams as we approach the end!

It's really long so uh tl;dr 8th potential death drive theory, seagulls and then some other odds and ends included

I'm living for Bravern as Gluttony somehow theories. Went down a random path and gluttony isn't necessarily just about eating too much but basically doing anything fun with food. From an article:

The glutton uses food for something other than its proper intention. 

Apparently one of the worst versions is straight up enjoying too much. Which like, every death drive treats their pilots/organic lifeforms as just food while Bravern is obsessed with how his "food" fuels him... And everything else about his "food". Ignoring whether he's actually using Isami the way a death drive uses Lulus and will eventually drain him, he's putting a lot more emotional investment into Isami than any of the Deathdrives into Lulus.

But also! As you dig into this there are also writings about how Gluttony isn't actually a sin so maybe Bravern is Gluttony but also he gets a pass.

Ugh no this could be a cool sidebar into what Bravern as Gluttony's "ideal death" would be. Like, truly overindulging in his "food" aka his pilot aka Isami aka gay sex. AND THEN. This gets rid of the Deathdrive/mecha form. Leaving Smith. And then gay sex with Smith.

With all of the Deathdrives being driven to have the ideal death, and Bravern being born of the desire to live*. I wonder if he can convince Superbia to live. That would be sick. Live a prideful life or something.

*it can be argued that Lewis Smiths resurrection is because he didn't have his ideal death so it's less of a counter force to the Deathdrive and more of his own version of being just like them but that feels less like the main energy of the story.

Moving on from that, I love the seagulls being a big part of the episode 10 preview and then the episode 11 preview having bravern surfing on the newly added fusion part just like them.

I think I read somewhere about seagulls going back to where they met to mate so. Yeah. Back to Hawai'i! With Brave being the one signalling I hope this is like, Isami really expressing his trust in Bravern and making it a matched relationship. My ideal scene is Isami seeing how Lulu's determination to pilot Superbia means he needs to commit to trusting Bravern. Which should totally include knowing who he is.

Which, adjacently, I think the reveal phrase should've been Bravern saying some phrase with "cool" in English. Like "the finishing move was ⟨super cool⟩> right?". It just feels more Smith imo. I really love how little they gave us with this though. Who were they fighting? How did they achieve this? Why did they get beat up instead of blasted/disintegrated? who knows. We can infer that they did save the day at the end but at what cost.

I think at this point it would be funny if they somehow slipped in another time loop. Hell give us a montage of time loops. Also I am a tiny bit smug about mentioning that Bravern not having time travel abilities yet like 1500 words ago. Will this be touched on more? Probably as some dramatic last episode if anything.

Considering the really fast pace of the show making everything feel important I hope we get references to some other things like Isami's built in airbags (maybe he gets ejected out of Bravern?). Isami's Senshi-bility in "we need to eat to save people". Whatever the heck Lulu's Heat Beam kick is. What was that. What's going on with the blood drop, does it mean something.

My only other hope and dreams is probably just some good old fashioned mech fights. It's been a lot of endure barrage of attacks -> get motivated -> super attack. I need substance!

What is something you wish would happen on the finale of BMF?

Ahhhh this is such a hard question because for me the coherence of the narrative is more important than any particular plot point, if that makes sense? So some of what I want will depend on what else is in the episode and where it's going. I don't want the morals we've had so far (to live in the moment and at its fullest, to focus on what you can control in the present, to not expect happiness to be static but to be resilient so that you can face whatever comes, etc.) to be undermined by the ending; everything else I am flexible about.

Taking that into account, here are a few things I want assuming they can fit in with whatever wider story is being told in ep12:

I want a little more acknowledgement that the lie told in ep 10 (that Pisaeng had fallen out with his mom, told to get Kawi to let him stay over) was not cool

I want closure on the timeline [so, if my prediction is wrong and Pisaeng decides to live through the coming years rather than skipping back ahead, a time skip for the audience through to what would have been when Kawi first time-jumped (May 18, 2027) is what I would want]

[this one is a bit greedy but] I want good people in Pear (if the timeline stays, James has better be cool), Kwan, and Max's lives. Get everyone [who wants to be] laid by people who are great 2023!

I've said this before, but I want the last post-credit scene to be Not being given the chance to travel back in time and fix his own life and choices (because it would be very funny)

But really the cop-out answer is that I want it to stick the landing! And for me what will do that is narrative cohesion. I'm actually ambivalent as to whether Kawi lives or dies, for example, as long as they set it up well (sorry Kawi).

I've been obsessed with the idea of this show since I watched the freaking mock trailer like sooo long years ago (late 2021? early 2022? like 2 years ago bruh) and was so glad that people seemed to really like the actual show when it released, can't believe I'm finally watching it. Also, people in the YT comments or on reddit who are acting like "ohhh Alex didn't know, he can't be held accountable for that night/for not knowing about the pregnancy, Jean should've told him yada yada", fuck you like actually. She was a young woman who was raped by somebody she deeply trusted (idc that he was young and drunk and it was "unintentional" - doesn't undo what he did), then ostracized by the school while he was put on a padastal (and left his other friends to follow his popularity), then suspended, then found out she was pregnant at a time when abortion was illegal. It makes plenty of fucking sense to me that she didn't go and tell Alex what happened. It's not even like she was doing anything to Alex in the current timeline, he's the one who keeps inserting himself into her life and pursing her romantically despite her saying no multiple times (parallels?).

Honestly, a pretty fun end and kind of makes me less upset at the other stuff. Like I'm still intellectually upset at it when I think about it, but I'm on a high from the fun stuff, so it doesn't feel as terrible as when I finished ep 11.

Overall:

A unique and enjoyable show, it was so fun to see all these characters in their specific situations and how they deal with them. The characters were all compelling, it's wild how I was into all their storylines. how charming each character/their story was, and how the story juggled them. It also made me see a bunch of actors in new lights, New most of all, as they acted in a role outside of their usual wheelhouse.

I think the most frustrating part for me was how it seemed like although they were getting at it, they never quite acknowledged that what Alex did to Jean that night was rape. It made me quite angry actually, especially how Alex's actions didn't feel like it actually took Jean's feelings and trauma and requests into account. I was at least glad that in that timeline, Jean doesn't get back with Alex.

hey y'all it's been a minute. i'm going to knuckle through the last few eps of the davies era before i leave the country. anyway this one was good

this feels like the clearest throughline so far from s4. the doctor is experiencing the same emotions as many a greek protagonist– he has been touched by fate and destiny so profoundly, so inarguably, that he lashes out powerlessly. some of this is a reaction to being alone, deeply alone, having lost all the friends he has made since the time war ended, but some of it is about HOW he lost them. he was destined to meet donna, travel with her, he was actually a pawn in HER destiny, her journey. "journey's end" that was HER journey, he was HER companion in a sense. for someone so accustomed to having the upper hand, especially someone like ten, i can imagine how bad that shook him

cause like, this is ten, you know? i remember nine's last story, i remember "a coward, any day." i remember how he chose suicide, not because it would destroy the daleks but bc it meant he didn't have to live to see them kill everyone. coward, absolutely. the time lord victorious is the polar opposite. time lord victorious is glorious, violent arrogance. what was the change? what happened in the meantime? a lot, but primarily, rose tyler. rose-badwolf forced the regeneration, ten absorbed some of her into him, and time lord victorious is PURE rose tyler. her audacity, her confidence, her arrogance, all wrapped up with a fragile doctor who has lost all and has suddenly realized there are no rules, no rulemakers

the doctor has always been the "teenage rebel" but that implies youth, obedience, an authority figure to defy. it implies a kind of harmless messiness. but that authority figure is gone, before the war he was a father and a grandfather and now he is neither, he is an orphan, he is a widower, he is the very last of the time lords and he is completely lost as a rebel in a universe that suddenly has given him nothing to rebel against

i'm not going to recap the episode. go watch it if you don't remember it, it's really good. a few points: "name, rank, and intention" "the doctor, doctor, and... fun" that's a good one. adelaide was born in 1999 which makes sense for this being 2059 but hello??? adelaide brooke is gen z?? it's 2024 is she on tik tok rn?? girl. so the doctor notes that they have the first flower to bloom on mars in 10,000 years, not sure if that's referencing anything. we get several ice warriors mentions tho, respect

this whole episode has kind of a "the thing" vibe, i like it. viral life form in the glacier, can't tell who's infected. wish this episode had a fucked up dog. uniquely this episode has ten trying to leave, repeatedly. it was pretty common in classic who for the doctor to land somewhere randomly and then go "hm. i don't care much for this. goodbye" and be thwarted, cause he was messy back then. nowadays tho he's not like that, this is unique, this is notable. he finally admits it's a fixed point, a thing i think means nothing except whatever any particular episode writer wants it to mean. which is fine, this is doctor who after all. he takes it back at the end, decides he's above the law bc there are no lawmakers anymore, but forgets that other people have agency. adelaide killing herself got a gasp from my bf

a bit of the "bad wolf" theme plays during the time lord victorious speech which proves my point imo. this is rose, this is rose's influence. she did this, she made him this way, and i don't think that's even a bad thing! in so many ways she made him better. but she also took this fragile war-torn survivor of genocide and made him angry, hard, fanatically right about everything. we also got a bit of "vale decem" at the end around adelaide's suicide cause like yeah this is very distinctly leading to his death

i know this has been extremely rambly but i truly think this episode (which is mostly "the impossible planet" meets "the thing" until the last 15 minutes) is deeply rich thematically and ties into threads i've been picking up on since "the parting of the ways" like ten's era has SO MUCH going on in it!! it's a commentary on nine, on rose, on the time war, on destiny, on classic who, on new who's forward direction. and it'll lead so elegantly into eleven's era, who lives in extreme opposition to having once been ten (as is pointed out directly in "day of the doctor") i think we lose the plot a bit after that. but that's quite a ways away in my recapping. anyway this story is really good and this era is so rich

Favourite Dramas of 2023!

Happy New Year everyone! I thought that I would do a Favourite Dramas of 2023 list just for fun! (I actually tried to do one last year but I got sick and by the time I was well enough to write it up it felt a bit too late to post it). I know that this list is very short and some of these dramas are less well known but I really enjoyed them so I hope other people might enjoy them too! **WARNING: SPOILERS**

Provoke - Such an amazing Republican revenge drama that was so beautifully filmed (the director was Zeng Qing Jie so of course it looked beautiful).

Good story, no filler, great acting, just a really enjoyable drama!

Back From The Brink - The only long drama that I watched this year. I really miss watching long dramas but I just don’t seem to be able to get into them for one reason or another. I think that’s why I enjoyed Back From The Brink so much because I liked all the actors and the characters and the whole plot.

I liked the lead’s chemistry too even though this drama wasn’t really romance heavy and was actually more of a “family drama”.

It was just a fun adventure drama that was also really funny XD

Love For Two Lives - This drama actually aired in 2022 but I wasn’t really aware of it until recently.

This was just a really funny and silly short drama that I really enjoyed. The romance didn’t play a big role but the whole drama was so enjoyable and funny that I didn’t mind!

Nine Times Time Travel - I haven’t seen the original Korean drama that this drama is based off so I can’t compare the two but I definitely loved this Chinese version. It was so twisty-turny and there was no filler, plus I don’t think that I’ve watched a time travel show like this before.

I’m glad that I didn’t binge watch this and instead watched it in small episode batches because there was so much going on in each episode!

Love Strikes Back - I really loved this drama, it was equal parts romance and revenge and had the funniest villains!

The villains busy plotting and getting on each other's nerves:

I think I also liked this drama so much because the plot actually reminded me of my favourite drama The Legends: FL “dies”/falls into a coma for a few years and then reawakens and is hell bent on revenge and eventually realises that the ML has been in love with her the whole time and has been secretly guarding her!

Please Don't Be Moved - This drama was basically a condensed one hour drama that included so many of my favourite things: badass FL, villain ML, ROMANTICAL ROMANCE, lots of angst, beautiful cinemaography and the “FL falls into a novel” storyline!

This drama really flew under the radar, they didn't even release a proper poster for this drama and out of all the 2 min ep dramas I watched this year this one was by far my favourite!

And that's all of them! I'm looking forward to what's going to be released in 2024, hopefully a lot of the MANY dramas that are currently on my unaired-plan-to-watch list because that list is getting very long now XD

She objectively doesn't really care about the guy, and yet he still manages to break her heart by poking the same scar the others poked before, and I just -- 💔💔

Can we talk about how "J'ai besoin d'une relation plus...." "... simple ?" "Ouais c'est ça." "C'est toujours ça..." was such a heartbreaking exchange? Morgane being hit and ran over and over again about the SAME issue really hurt😰, and even more so when put in perspective with later stuff but 🤐🤐

Now, the timeline. 100% agreed, and I noted the same things re the inconsistencies. And the victime's date of birth made zero sense anyway since they changed her identity, right? So her zodiac sign might not be accurate, idk... Also the two months gap, which is necessary to vaguely establish Morgane and Timothée as a ~relationship, implies that Gilles kept pretending to Daphné that he was dating Timothée? And knowing Daphné she probably couldn't keep her mouth shut and made all sorts of allusions in front of Timothée who just had no clue at all? 😂 And I didn't notice Eliott's sweater but you're right, actually this show's been making fun of us and me specifically from the start 😅

(also yes, the windows weren't changed for two months while it was literally snowing during 304 🤦)

Now for me the biggest continuity issue in this episode is Morgane telling David she doesn't smoke while we saw her smoking in 301, I'll leave you with that 😅

Unfortunately, the product placement is far from over, and I must admit that it's particularly unsubtle and annoying this season 😠 but please tell me this didn't kill Céleane (Céline x tea 😆) aka my favorite ship from this show!!! 😱 And I didn't notice the trend but now that you're pointing it out, Morgane NEVER drinks out of these sponsored cups of coffee and only drinks from the anonymous cup during the breakfast scene, so... 👀

Timothée attempting to lecture Serge and the latter just bursting with hilarity at him, that was extremely satisfying to watch 😊

Morgane and David bonding over getting dumped by the loves of their lives, that was sweet. At least Morgane got a modicum of sympathy and understanding this ep 🥲💕

Hi!! I know it's been a few days but how was the movie and crowd for you? What did you think? I hope you had so much fun! I saw your outfit in the pic you posted and it looked cute. How was it seeing the second time compared to the first? Did people like your bracelets? Those are a lot of my favorites too! Specifically Mirrorball, Cardigan, Daylight, You're on your own kid, Mastermind and Nothing New and Forever Winter! There wasn't really a crowd at my show..and probably less than 10 people..there was us and another group and maybe two more people and we all sat different spots in the theater, and we had our own space..so it was like watching it at home in a way lol which is fine. hi hi! i really loved it! i saw it on friday with one of my best friends and it was really fun — i was able to trade some bracelets in the parking lot / by concessions / inside, and the vibes were really chill! there were a few people singing and dancing but the way our cinemas are sloped/tiered meant it didn't block people's views (i was also in the back row)! no one really did the chants though, which i was surprised by? and then on sunday i went with my mom and i didn't really trade bracelets ( gave a bunch to the cinemark employees though! ) because the vibes were ... different! but people on sunday were a lot more ... enthusiastic! all the chants, dancing, etc! my mom had fun though; she turned to me as we were leaving and asked if i'd want to go see the movie again with her which was really cute 🥺! people were really nice about my bracelets; a girl i traded with on friday told me later that evening that my bracelet was her favorite one she got that night and it made my day! the renee rapp show was fine — i was really on the fence on if i still wanted to go, honestly, but am glad i went ultimately! i didn't love her album as much as i did her EP, and i think that she's so so talented vocally but the way her music is produced doesn't always let her vocals shine, if that makes sense? a lot of people near me were a little ... 😵‍💫 though in terms of concert etiquette! i hope you like holly's album; i've been listening to that a lot since it came out (and finally got around to listening to the new boygenius last night). the mean girls musical is fun; i've never seen it live (i had tickets to see taylor louderman's second to last show but was ... hungover ... and ended up selling my ticket to a friend haha) but i think it could've been better/stronger! i was really excited for it, because i love what they did with legally blonde but was disappointed with some of the score for mean girls. a small part of me was hoping that sabrina would reprise her role as cady, because i really like what i heard of her cady, and was sad her time as cady got cut short!

wow!! that's not a lot of people! it was pretty packed at both showings, but i actually got tickets to see it on 10/27 with my mom again, and so far, it's just us and one other person in that cinema! i really liked this movie (incredibly salty about things that got cut though), but i got a little motion sick at some of the shots. but i get motion sick easily, so that's more on me haha! i got really really sad/emotional during specific scenes and was thinking a lot about seeing it in person and the memories i made during my shows. i think my favorite parts were really just seeing how my mom and my best friend reacted to different things (i made my mom watch the entire thing on youtube a few months ago & it was my best friend's first time watching it)! i think my favorite eras sets are still fearless, speak now and folklore though, but they're all just so good! what about you?

2022 Wrapped.

Happy New Year everyone! With the holiday season wrapping up, I wanted to recap on all things Make A Tune last year:

SOREUM

Musically, I got the metal out of my system with a 4 track Djenty EP, with riffs that had been hanging about in musical purgatory ever since I acquired my 7 String guitar.

A classic musician trope is being too precious with ideas, waiting too long, and never putting them out into the world.

The ep has my first attempts of adding synths and sounds outside of just guitar bass drums into a metal song.

The song that came together the best for me was “Gatekeeper”. Not only was it my favourite riff, but the lyrics of the song are very much about what “make a tune” is conceptually.

GATEKEEPER MV

My second DIY music video, shot on iPhone, where I used multiple takes of myself whilst keeping the phone in the same place, then editing them together to look like a band lol. I made something similar at the end of 2021 when I recorded 3 songs in one take, 4 times (bass, guitar 1, guitar 2, vocals) to create a sort of fake but real live show. This was easier as it was just for the visual purpose. Still worked out pretty well for a budget of Zero!

MAKE A TUNE CONTENT

I know, I know. It is what it is. Everyone calls it content, to the point where I think it’s either lost its pretentiousness or it’s just eaten all other possible words around it. Anyway, there was a few interesting things on YouTube.

My baritone video did really well. I guess it was a new guitar that must have peaked a lot of people’s interest. I really enjoyed hearing people’s thoughts and engaging in the comments with questions people had. Whilst I definitely don’t have the credentials to be a product review guy, I think if there’s anything new things I pick up this year, I will put more effort into sharing my thoughts on it.

MAKE A VLOG

I didn’t do as many KPop metal covers this year, mainly as I was working on Soreum. My first venture into mixing my metal riffs with KPop was inspired by Dreamcatcher in 2020, when Scream showed up in my timeline and opened my ears to the possibility. This year they have inspired me to grow the channel in a different way: by documenting my journeys seeing them live!

BEATS AND PIECES:

Even with all the travel, it wasn’t till last month that I actually got Covid for the first time! I WORKED THROUGH LOCKDOWN 2020 AS AN ESSENTIAL WORKER AND EVERYTHING, SO ANNOYING!

Anyway, whilst I self isolated, I got to do a project that I had wanted to do for a while. Similar to what I said before about my metal riffs, I have built up so many little musical projects that were gonna sit there doing nothing on my hard drive. So I went through a bunch, picked a mix of genres, filled them out, and released them as instrumentals in an album called Beats and Pieces. Are they all bangers? Nope! But it’s a good starting point to hear where I’m at as a total novice producer trying new things, seeing what works, what resonates with people. It also serves as a good way to free myself for this year.

2023

I literally have no idea, AND ITS AWESOME!

SOREUM got the metal out my system, Beats and Pieces got all the little half ideas and experiments out there. I feel like I have a blank canvas with no lingering projects I need to finish off.

I want to make something fresh, something that doesn’t exist yet not even as an idea or a humming tune in my head, or a specific genre of music that I always said I would do. I’m just going to make the music I feel like making there and then, and go for it!

Content wise I think I might go back to live streaming, but just on YouTube not twitch. I think I can engage with an audience more if there’s no definite goal with the tune making. Like if I was live streaming producing SOREUM it would have been very dull, messing up, taking no suggestions, getting frustrated at not achieving the exact thing I’m wanting to do. But freestyle music making with people suggesting ideas could be a lot of fun!

in the wake of the true colours hype last year i decided to rank every LIS game + dlc and then ... never published the post bc the fandom was so full of people picking fights with each other lmao

but now the fandom is dead and my opinions have not really shifted at all so here is my extremely long-winded opinionated post on life is strange lmao:

#1. life is strange

lis1 my beloved...

honestly i just love this game. all my qualms are fairly minor. I like the stupid dialogue -- I think it has more character and is more memorable than same-voice quipmachine dialogue that is trendy in lots of media, and captures the spirit of the way teenagers talk even if not the slang specifically. i love the way every part of the game serves the theme -- from the photo collectibles and max's photography interest to the idea of capturing moments in time, time travel, etc. rewind is an absolute galaxy brain mechanic to introduce into a choice game, used to great effect.

i LOVE the nightmare sequence, and i even love the ending choice that again serves the theme of "you cannot rewrite time to fix all your mistakes". i love having a murder mystery time travel game where the central relationship is two girls falling in love. 10/10. my beloved. #2. true colours

i love true colours a lot! i thought decknine made massive strides between BTS and this, and it made me more optimistic for the future of the franchise. i was so happy to love it

i loved alex and thought she was a wonderful, complex, well-performed character. i thought the empathy was used really interestingly, i liked seeing the world through other characters' emotions. i loved the core cast of supporting characters -- steph, ryan, gabe, charlotte, riley, duckie, they're all characters i got attached to and wanted to form good relationships with. i liked that it was a murder mystery. i liked getting to follow NPCs like bald guy and the ice cream couple through the game. when i first finished, i was like, wow this really gave lis1 a run for its money in my affection...

however, on reflection, i wish TC had pushed a bit further in a few things. i wish more choices felt like actual dilemmas instead of simply Good Choice and Bad Choice -- for eg i would like to see a serious consequence to *not* taking charlotte's anger, instead of only bad things happening when you do. i wish the end scene with the council played a bit differently, where the support of the council mattered more, or your choices in the jed speech mattered more. i wish that the friend you didn't romance didn't vanish off the face of the planet after the council meeting. i wish we'd had more time to get to know steph and ryan. i wish more licensed music had been integrated into scenes, instead of cordoned off into the zen moments. i really missed the end-episode music montages!

so, while i do still really love TC and it's a strong #2, it is still #2. #3. dlc: farewell i thought farewell handled the bittersweet nature of the day very well, even before it first clicked with me it was *that* day in particular. it was fun to see young max and chloe, and great to hear ashly burch and hannah telle back in their roles. it's fair to say this DLC was fanservice, but as a fan i felt serviced, lmao.

however the ending scene is maudlin for the sake of being maudlin. it's unbelievable to me that the caulfields just drag max away mid-funeral without even a goodbye lmaooo... like come on... #4. life is strange 2 honestly this ended up higher than i thought it would lol the nicest thing i can say about lis2 is it took a lot of risks. unfortunately almost none of those risks paid off for me.

I like sean himself, and his little journey of self discovery in ep 3 was super endearing to me. lots of the scenery was beautiful. the lis1 easter eggs were everything i wanted them to be and i appreciate dontnod giving them to me. I respect the work that went into the branching endings and morality/brotherhood system, even if I found the final choice itself infuriating. i'm not *in theory* against games being Political, provided they know what they want to say.

but i didn't like not having the power, i didn't like not having a familiar setting and NPCs to get attached to over the course of the episodes, i didn't like the time jumps between episodes where i just had to catch up via sean's journal, i didn't like what i felt was the player's lack of control in directing the story, and i didn't even like a lot of the plot execution (for eg the karen plotline was not what i wanted from karen at all), i didn't like that the core mechanic was babysitting simulator at a time i was already feeling exhausted by that genre.

i struggled to connect to daniel and not connecting to daniel undermines the entire emotional core of the game. i resented my overall feeling that the game itself saw sean as a sacrificial lamb whose life was forfeit in favour of daniel's. i felt railroaded by the plot constantly and was frustrated watching sean do things i would never have chosen, or daniel do things i had explicitly tried to choose against. i was extremely uncomfortable watching a 16 year old be hate crimed every episode. i thought the game's politics were muddy at best, far less progressive than it thinks they are and offensively milquetoast at worst, like #NotAllCopsing me at the eleventh hour at trump's fucking wall, or having the audacity to have an NPC tell sean "they don't hurt children" at the border detention centre in the middle of the real life child separation crisis.

but ultimately this wound up placed in the centre of my rankings because despite my personal feelings being primarily negative, i at least respect the scope of what this game attempted to do, and think it was a more ambitious project than what follows.

#5. dlc: wavelengths I feel like I can't in good conscience rank Wavelengths any higher, bc even though it never made me *angry* and I personally enjoyed playing it more than lis2, it ultimately felt like an underused concept that had about one chapter of interesting development out of four. I really liked the autumn sequence, and learning about Steph's baggage from Arcadia Bay, and seeing Mikey. I also liked Duckie and Gabe's calls. those things all helped me gain perspective on the characters and relationships in TC and even in BTS.

But the radio tasks were repetitive, and overall it felt like a missed opportunity to do so much more to flesh out Steph's life in Haven -- her friendship with Gabe, and Ryan, and Charlotte, etc. So many of those callers could've been characters from Haven and helped the town feel more fleshed out. We could've had consequences (however mild -- an angry email or happy email) for how our ad reads went. We could've... done a lot more, honestly. I had fun with the dating app, but it felt pointless, knowing in TC she's single anyway. The plot thread from autumn felt incomplete to me because it *so obviously* set up Bae-route Steph reconnecting with Chloe or TRYING to reconnect with Chloe, even a google search, and then just didn't go there at all. It was more or less a shrug of a DLC for me and I feel like I couldn't genuinely recommend it to TC players unless they *really* love Steph.

#6. before the storm

the thing about before the storm is I REALLY wanted to like it. i love chloe, i was interested in seeing rachel, and more of arcadia bay. i wanted to love it!! there are moments in it i do like, chloe's dream sequences are mostly pretty cool, it's got a decent soundtrack that is mostly used well, it has some good visual moments like the stars in rachel's room or the flashback story with rachel's biomom. steph and mikey are alright here, and it's nice to see them blossom into fuller characters in wavelengths and TC. that end montage to "bros" by wolf alice was a+, probably my favourite part of the game. SOME of the moments of chloe's early lesbian crisis moments were well done (others um... very much not so, imo.)

but ultimately... this story wasn't a story i really needed to be told, and i resent what it brought to the lis1 timeline. it actively makes parts of lis1 worse or more nonsensical. i think chloe makes a better deuteragonist than a player character, and having us play an established character with defined canon behaviours was a mistake. (we should've played rachel!!!) i thought the rachel they wrote was inconsistent not only with LIS1 but within itself, creating a vaguer and ultimately less interesting version of the character than i was able to imagine just based on lis1 alone. i thought the joyce-david-chloe drama was very poorly handled and what they accomplished was making david even more of a ridiculous caricature and joyce even less sympathetic than she was in lis1 when she shrugs off david's abuse. i didn't like how they wrote amberprice, and i resent that i'm stuck with this bland interpretation now forever. in a prequel to a game where you find out a teacher is drugging young girls, a character who will eventually be killed by this *can drug another girl for comedy to steal her role in a play* and no one in-universe bats an eye. also all of episode 3 was hot garbage trash from basically top to bottom, closing montage excluded.

also, all the scab VAs are not good. some of the voice acting is distractingly bad. or perhaps it was the director. everyone takes extremely long pauses between words whenever they want to emote. why? david marijuana.wav

ultimately, even though there were parts i liked, the parts i don't like annoy me more because they are not only in bts, they have infected the LIS1 lore, wavelengths and influenced the way fandom, the comics and now d9 treat the characters. so... 👎🏻 #7. dlc: captain spirit this really offered me nothing i'm ngl. i was not into child abuse simulator, i was irritated that it was being branded as a taste of lis2 yet gave me nothing i liked, was bored the whole time, was not into playing a ten year old white boy in a series that, to that point, was about gay girls coming of age. just did not enjoy anything about this tbh

I'm shy but I tried writing something hope you like it

One last sip of coffee and two stomps to properly secure his boots, and the Gravity Falls Weirdness Expert was out the door.

  It was on a particularly sunny, clear day that found Stanford once again out in the field for a little catch up on his studies. The past week had been uneventful within the confines of his basement, as if the world was allowing him time to compile the numerous foot notes and sketches of his latest findings into a fairly cohesive summary within the first few pages of his second journal. Nights and afternoons were spent humming over words that didn't quite flow, and cross referencing facts he had uncovered with rumors that fell deaf upon all ears but his. Lovely as the quiet had been, seven days was more than enough time to stay cooped up in a research shack when there was plenty more to discover.

  Stanford cupped a hand around his ear and listened. A woodpecker pecked away at its hole in a birch, determined for an early breakfast. Not too far from there, a squirrel skittered along branches, hoping for an acorn meal of its own. A gnome tutted at a rainbow puddle, helping its reflection pick at its latest zit.

  All sounded normal, the scientist regarded with a deep sigh of disappointment. It was uncommon to not have something completely new to marvel over. Were it not for the gnome, one wouldn't know that they were in Gravity Falls at all. It was all so peaceful and Oregonian. Perhaps the world was still holding its breath over more important things to come. Perhaps it didn't quite realize that Stanford was more than ready to jump back into the weird and the wild.

  Four more minutes of strolling and listening, Stanford was just beginning to consider going into town to replenish his supplies when he finally spotted an unusual subject he'd been craving.

  A long, long, long snake tail hung from below the branches of a bright red leafed tree. The tip, maroon and tan in color, swung slowly and rhythmically back and forth, like the tick and tock of a pendulum on a grandfather clock. Stanford's wide eyes traveled up the tail to see the colors recede to darker browns in circled patterns as the mass grew thicker the higher his gaze climbed. Whatever was up there, the leaves could only do so much to completely cover it. It had to be massive.

The first, most obvious thought that came to his head was Python, but he quickly dismissed it. Pythons were not native to Oregon, certainly not one of this length at the very least. Except, this was Gravity Falls, where the only acceptable thing was to accept the unacceptable. Even so, a Python, even one as gigantic as this, seemed too...ordinary for the town's infamy. He'd made it this far by thinking outside the box, so what else could possible have a snake tail of this capacity?

It hit him, and he had to choke back a gasp of delight. "A naga! An actual naga!" The whispered excitement seemed especially piercing in the quiet of the early morning, but he was too elated to care. This was exactly what he had been waiting for to break what had started as a monotonous walk in the woods. Patting at his breast pocket for a pen and paper, he wracked his brain for what little he knew about these creatures. From what he remembered, the bottom half was always a snake, while the top half-

  "Well, hello."

  Stanford yelped and juggled his pen for two seconds before he composed himself enough to acknowledge that he was not alone. Clutching his pen holding hand to his chest to steady his heartbeat, he replied hesitantly, "Hello?"

  A deep, throaty chuckle seemed to echo all across the canopy of trees, a pleasant sound, but not very becoming of his nerves. "Sorry. Didn't mean to scare you. You just looked so excited, I got a little curious."

  It wasn't hard to put two and two together. "I...should've realized that nagas were intelligent enough to understand human speech." Stanford cleared his throat, the thrill at the thought of another research subject spurring him on. "After all, if I'm getting my facts straight, your top halves are-"

Even if he had hypothesized it, he was not at all prepared for the sight that awaiting him. Slowing winding down from the thick branches was the top half of the naga; human in shape, and far more handsome than he could've imagined. Barrel chested with long chestnut hair, soulful brown eyes twinkling with mischief, and a long nose that only seemed to complete his features all the better. The naga's mouth curled into a playful smirk at Stanford's beguiled expression.

  "Impressed? Understandable. Not every day you run into someone like me, am I right?" He twisted his upper half upside down so that his long hair hung down in a wave of brown, barely tickling the grass beneath him.

  Stanford regained just enough sense to formulate a response. "Why, er, no, certainly not...hardly ever!" His excitement renewed, he clicked his pen and resumed reaching for some paper. "You must tell me everything about you!" His grin was all teeth.

  "Well, first thing's first, how about an introduction?" The naga said with no small amount of amusement. "My name's Kenneth. Call me Kenny."

  "Ah, yes, of course." Stanford shook his head and held out a six fingered hand. "Stanford Pines. Resident Researcher of Gravity Falls Phenomena. Pleasure to meet you, Kenny." Much to his delight, the Naga extended the red tip of his tail to shake with. "So fascinating! Your girth alone would take a whole page to describe! But more about that later; I must know all about your culture!" He set his pen to paper, waiting with baited breath and still beaming.

  Kenny returned the smile gleefully. "Well, I'm partial to smooth jazz, but I can't say no to samba. Oh, and don't get me started on-" The naga's rambles were cut short by Stanford's throat clearing.

  "Um, as stimulating as that is, I was hoping to do my research on your species as a whole."

  Kenny quirked an eyebrow. "Gonna need to clear me up on that."

  Stanford nodded patiently. "Well, it could be things like, what your diet consists of. Is English the most common language among your kind? Wouldn't a jungle be more befitting for a body such as yours? What natural abilities do you harbor, if any? How did-"

  "Ep, ep, ep!" Kenny, to Stanford's slight indignation, placed a finger to his lips, interrupting his little question vomit. "I think it'd be better to answer one at a ti-" The naga's eyes seemed to glint for a moment. "What was that last question?"

  Stanford pushed the finger off his lips to answer, "Um, what natural abilities do you harbor?"

  The glint returned, and the scientist knew that he'd seen a look like that many times before. Usually it was on his brother as he was hatching one of his harebrained schemes, one that would more than likely leave the two of them grounded, in body casts, or both.

  Suddenly wary, Stanford stuttered, "Um, actually, perhaps you could tell me about your diet-"

  "No, no, no! This is a question I know I can answer!" Kenny's voice took on a musical lilt, the sound of it somehow easing just a little of Stanford's reluctance. Besides, hadn't he wanted to study more creatures?  This was a rare opportunity, and the naga had offered. Stanford could always put out any potential fire with the extinguisher he'd hidden in one of the nearby trap doors.

  "Well, alright, what are your abilities?"

  Kenny's smirk returned in full force, and Stanford suppressed the urge to cringe. He was doing this for science, he reminded himself. For science.

  "Well, you see, Stanford...can I call you Ford?"

  "Oh, uh, yes."

  "Well, Ford, us nagas all have one very special ability in common." Kenny chuckled, the force of it rippling all across his coils winding around the branches. Stanford watched, mesmerized at the browns and tans that ebbed and flowed like an ocean of coils.

  "Ah, ah, ah. Eyes over here." Kenny's tail tip gently turned Ford's eyes back to his, amusement coloring his tone.

  Ford blinked himself out of his stupor. "Yes. Sorry. You were saying?"

  "Weeell, nagas have a very useful, very fun ability we just love to use." Kenny sang.

  Ford instinctively leaned closer, now more curious than nervous. "And that is?"

  "This."

  A ring of yellow gently emerged and flowed outward from the center of Kenny's eyes. Then came orange. Then green. Then blue. Back to yellow. Orange. Green. Blue. Yellow.

  Ford gasped softly at the display. "Enchanting." He breathed. "How on earth are you doing...that with...with your...y-your eyes...?" Odd. It was getting a little hard to speak the longer he observed them. His brain would form thoughts, but the patterns would compel them to swirl away into a silvery mist. Some thoughts would reach his mouth, but his tongue was becoming heavy and useless, like he'd downed a whole bottle of red mulled wine.

  Kenny smiled softly, nodding with satisfaction at the colors emerging in his volunteer's eyes. "Magic. Although I've been told by a friend that it's slightly more complicated than that. But what matters is, it feels nice, right?"

  "Y-Yes...it does..." Stanford sighed his agreement, the hand holding his pen going slack at his side. It really was the most wonderful feeling, like any care or worry that had ever crossed his mind just didn't matter anymore. The weight of expectations and responsibilities lifted off his shoulders, and in their place was an intense feeling of relaxation and peace, welcoming him to their cozy little world of lovely colors and rippling coils.

  Ford giggled curiously. "Wazzz...wh-what's...happening?" He should have been writing this down and asking more pressing questions, but his brain may as well have been cotton by this point. Everything felt soft and warm and good.

  Kenny giggled back. "Jussst a taste of my abilities, like you wanted." He tilted his head. Ford's own head followed, glued to his eyes. "You're looking a little sleepy. How bout' a little nap?"

  "Nnn...nap...?" Ford blinked sluggishly, the word sparking a flash of recognition to reignite his sleep addled brain."H-Hold on...jus' a..." It took a painful amount of effort and willpower, so much that his eyes watered, but Ford managed to tear his eyes away from the hypnotic spectacle, taking a moment to rub the drowsy out of them.

  "I...what just..?" He was dazed and dizzy. But he knew just enough to figure that he had to keep his eyes covered.

  Kenny blinked away his hypnosis, startled by the rare show of resistance from a subject. There were few who could resist when they were that far under, but Ford just made the very short list. Even so, he wasn't completely out of the park yet, if his sleepy ramblings were any indication.

  "Aww, hey, what's wrong?" Kenny kept his voice gentle, but couldn't suppress some amusement either. "I thought you wanted to know all about the abilities of the nagas?" He tilted his head, feigning hurt.

  "Of...of course I do, but..." Ford turned away from where he heard the voice, having enough sense to cover his eyes with his arms, but not enough to remember how close he was to Kenny's tree. "I...I need to be-OOF!" He smacked right into it, the shock enough to snap him out of the spell completely.

  He shook the swirls and cobwebs from his head, gritting his teeth and focusing on the pain. "You..." He turned back to where he thought Kenny was, eyes shut tight and pointing accusingly. "You tried to hypnotize me!"

  "Wrong way." The voice to his left snorted playfully.

  Red in the face more from embarrassment than anger, Ford turned in the proper direction. "What do you intend to do, use me as some sort of thrall?! Easy slave labor?!"

  Kenny clapped. "Ha! Much more original than any accusations of eating people! But no." Ford heard a rustling of leaves to his right, and he flinched backwards, into a mass of coils that propped around his shoulders like a friendly arm. "You asked me what nagas could do. I was just showing you the works."

  Stanford stubbornly remained angry. "You could've just told me! Or I could've watched you do it on a gnome, or...I don't recall giving you consent to hypnotize me!"

  Kenny held up his hands in a placating gesture(that Stanford could not see). "Easy there, Ford! You're saying you didn't like it?"

  Ford sputtered indignantly. "I...that's besides the point! I'm doing this for science, not for a...a nap! Can you imagine how many hours of precious research time I'll lose if I sleep?!"

  To his surprise, Kenny's voice took on the slightest bit of concern. "Um, when was the last time you slept?"

  Once again caught off guard, Ford had to gather his thoughts and take a deep breath to answer calmly. "I can handle not sleeping for a few days. What I can't handle is how the world moves on with or without me. Every second of every minute of every hour, something is happening. Creatures to catalogue, reports to write, disputes to diverge! I'm going to change the world with this project! I'll sleep when I'm dead!" Ford had forgotten what calm was by the end of his tirade.

  Still with that aggravating concern he'd often heard from his mother, brother, and Fiddleford, Kenny tutted and gave Ford's shoulders a little squeeze with his coils.

  "That's no way to go, buddy. Everyone needs sleep. Even life changers like you."

  "We're getting off subject." Ford gritted his teeth, trying to breathe evenly. "You showed your ability. Thank you. I'll write all about it in my next volume. Now leave me alone." Eyes still shut, Ford ducked under the coils and felt around for the paper he had dropped during his little spell. Kenny's tail curled around his right wrist, as though dejected by the lack of attention. The six fingered scientist yanked his hand away, cursing quietly when he dropped the pen it'd been holding. "I mean it, Kenny. I've had enough." He snapped.

  "Oh, but you really haven't."

  Maybe it was the cockiness with which the naga said it, but Ford couldn't withhold his curiosity. "What do you mean?"

  "I mean, that I'd only just begun, and you'd only barely felt the full effects of a naga's powers. You resisted, and that just sent everything off kilter. Imagine how much info you could write about if you only knew what it's really like to be hypnotized by a real naga?" Kenny studied his own hands smugly, feigning nonchalance and hoping the anticipation didn't show on his face. He needed a new cuddle buddy after all.

  Wait. Ford's eyes were still closed. What did Kenny have to worry about?

  Ford crossed his arms, tapping a finger against his jacket. Kenny was just using promises of scientific discovery as a lure for another hapless victim, that's all this was.

  Regardless, he did have to know something. "Why do you even want to hypnotize me, anyway? It can't just be because you think I need sleep." Ford huffed.

  Kenny shrugged(Ford could STILL not see it). "I just wanted a cuddle. The fact that you need sleep is serendipitous."

  Stanford had lost count of how many times this naga had had him completely flustered. "That's...that's why you...huh?"

  "Of course! It's what I do. And no, it's not really a naga thing. It's just a Kenny thing." The naga laughed.

  Ford found himself letting his guard down a little at the confession. "That's...really all there is to it?"

  "Mm-hm!" Kenny nodded confidently. "Besides, is losing a few hours to the best sleep you'll ever have really that bad? Think of the discoveries you're missing out on!"

  "W-Well, no, but...cuddle with you? I mean, that's just...uh..." Darn it, he was thinking of the discoveries! What could he be missing by resisting such power? Was sleep all that would happen? Could he dream under the effects of naga hypnosis? How long could a human like himself last before he gave in?

  The questions were leaking through the dam of resistance in his brain. It wasn't long before they'd break free. Not only that, but...it's not like anyone would know about this. There was no one around this area but him and Kenny. Losing a bit of dignity for a few hours couldn't be too bad, could it?

  Slowly, Ford allowed his crossed arms to leave his side. He knelt to the ground, feeling around for a good place to sit.

  "I'll take that as a 'Go ahead'?" Kenny couldn't hide his excitement.

  Hands patting a particularly soft mound of earth, Ford grunted and set himself into an upright sitting position, legs splayed. "Don't try anything stupid." He warned, determined to have as much control over this bizarre circumstance as he could.

  "No problem at all." Kenny giggled. "Now, how 'bout you open your eyes, first."

  Reluctantly, Ford slowly pried his eyes open, squinting against the light of mid-morning. Blinded, it took five seconds for his eyes to adjust the many colors of the day.

  But then, he realized, it wasn't the day he was looking at. It was a now familiar sight of oranges and yellows and...he could barely keep track. They were going at a steady rate, but when he thought he could pick out one color, that one would fade into another, and another, and another...

  Ford squinted, still stubbornly wanting to remain in control. Who said he couldn't monitor the scientific intonations in his head, after all? That way he could do research on the naga's hypnosis without losing any time to useless pastimes like sleeping.

  The colors are reaching a familiar pattern. They ebb and flow like tides of the ocean. One disappears, only to appear just when you've forgotten it existed. Incredible. Dazzling. So very...focus! I hear something. A voice...a song...birds? No. Smoother. Kenny? Is it a lullaby? Trying to make it more challenging? Do your worst. I'm not...sleepy...at...all...Beautiful...So pretty...FOCUS!

  Kenny watched, patiently awaiting Ford's lapse into sleep. One second his swirling eyes would droop, the next they would spring back up as he caught himself growing drowsy. Even when Kenny began to hum a gentle, lulling tune, Ford was putting up a good fight. But if the bags under his eyes told him anything, it was that he really needed a siesta.

  Right. Time for a little coiling.

  Noises of the forest are...fading...easier to focus on Kenny's voice...all that matters...wait. No. I was...I can't...sleep now...not yet...Focus on...ability...

  Getting harder...to fight...melatonin trigger perhaps...so sleepy...yes, must be...mela...the stuff that...makes you...sleep...eyes make it...easy...to sleep...using...colors...lovely colors...

  ...?

  Feeling...heavy...around...waist...

  Indeed, a coil was just starting to inch its way around Ford's abdomen, squeezing in especially tense areas and loosening any aches and pains he had been feeling just seconds before. Around and around the tail went, carefully pinning his arms to his sides, just enough to restrain, not enough to alarm or hurt. The tip continued on upward, reaching over his chest, feeling his slow, steady heartbeat. When the tail reached his shoulders, Kenny used his impressive strength to gently tilt Ford backwards, lying him on the ground, and making sure his hypnotic eyes were always in view.

  ...Warm...Blanket...? No...coils...? So...sleepy...Why was...I...fighting...?

  Kenny grinned over the helpless state Ford was in. His mouth hung open, his lids were periodically shutting and opening out of sync over his still swirling eyes, and his upper body was all wrapped up in his coziest coils. Still, even after all that effort, Ford looked like he need just one more little push. A nudge in the right direction.

  Kenny slowly, slowly, slowly pulled him into the air, so that he hung suspended over the ground, legs dangling with the direction he swayed in. Another loop of coils around his body, and Stanford was covered neck to toe in the warm embrace of a naga hug.

  ...Being..held...so...wonderful...

  Eyes lidded so low he could barely see Kenny's, Ford moaned softly at the sensations of his predicament. He couldn't remember why he had bothered fighting. Actually, he couldn't remember anything outside of his euphoric drowsiness and coil cocoon. Even then, Kenny noticed that his eyes hadn't closed just yet. Continuing his hummed lullaby, Kenny gave the coiled mass a little push, giving it a rocking effect.

  ...back...forth...back...forth...sleepy...so...sleepy...

  I'm...

  Falling...

  Falling...

  F...a...l...l...i...n...g...

  Gentle snores emerged from the cocoon, and Kenny sighed with satisfaction. "That wasn't so bad, was it now?" The tip of his tail closed Ford's mouth, where the snores turned into deep breathing. The coils gradually shifted from horizontal to vertical, so that his cheek was comfortably rested against his scaly bonds.

  Kenny ran a hand through Ford's brown hair, smiling with his usual mischief. "You wouldn't mind sharing your results when you wake up, would you?"

Every Proposal on Gilmore Girls Was Absolutely Unhinged

This show was rich in couples, swimming in conflict, and desperately lacking in healthy communication. Which made for some batshit marriage proposals! Let's go:

Christopher to Lorelai in Season 1 ep. 15: Christopher Returns

In Christopher's first appearance on the show, he rocks up to Stars Hollow on his motorcycle at the end of the previous episode, out of the blue, and in this one archetypes are made clear: he establishes himself as the irresponsible deadbeat single dad to Lorelai's hardworking, mature yet still fun single mom. They have a weird dinner with everyone's parents where his parents, Straub and Francine, are shown to be even more uptight and awful than Richard and Emily can be. A lot of fighting and yelling and relitigating past choices ensues. Then Lorelai and Christopher go off to have emotional, nostalgic sex on her childhood balcony, and off the strength of that, he walks into her kitchen the next morning and blurts out that he wants to marry her so they can be a "real family". They barely see each other. They know hardly anything about each other's current lives. This is the first time he's visited the town they've been living in since Rory was a child and yet. A marriage proposal. Naturally, she turns him down, but we have not heard the last of Christopher Hayden.

Max to Lorelai in Season 1 ep. 21: Love, Daisies and Troubadours

This relationship was used mostly to discuss Lorelai's commitment issues, the difficulties of dating as a single mom, and have her fight allegations of her being promiscuous (which are not true, she can be very sexually conservative) by having her do something risky like try to date one of her daughter's teachers at the stuffy private school that also exists in her parents' world. So despite them having okay chemistry, they haven't really dated much and broke up after two months before getting back together shortly before the night of the proposal. Max comes by the house to pick Lorelai up and finds Luke there getting his toolbox and relaying the news that Rachel broke up with him (because she has a basic level of intuition and picked up on his feelings for Lorelai). Max and Luke have a very cringy dick measuring contest, Max (in possession of similar intuition) assumes Luke and Lorelai dated at some point but it's not season 5 yet so she's not legally allowed to admit she's into Luke. They argue, Max expresses frustration that their relationship can never seem to get off the ground, and what does he propose as a solution? Yoking their lives together in blessed matrimony. Lorelai is justifiably frustrated and tells him that's not how you propose, that a proposal is supposed to be special and grand. She lists "a thousand yellow daisies" as an example how to truly pop the question and the next day Max arranges for that famous logistical nightmare romantic gesture at the inn, then says some flowery bullshit on the phone and because it's the season finale and emotions are high, Lorelai accepts. Though later, right after her bachelorette party, she runs away and calls off the wedding. They meet a couple more times for closure, and then the relationship is truly dead.

Jackson to Sookie in Season 2 ep 13: A-Tisket A-Tasket

Sookie and Jackson's budding relationship has actually been pretty nice to watch up until this point. They have a fun balance between awkward but cute flirting and comical bickering about produce. But there's something in the area's water supply that makes people unable to clearly express their wants and needs in a romantic relationship so when Sookie doesn't respond how Jackson wanted her to to him saying his lease was up and asking her what she thought, he sulks. The sulking manifests itself in him not bidding on Sookie's basket at the bid a basket auction so she confronts him to see what's up and they actually manage to have a decent conversation about what moving in together would mean. And that could've been a nice ending for that storyline. But shacking up together? Out of wedlock? Impossible. So at their picnic for two, Jackson fakes Sookie out and says he doesn't want to talk about moving in together any more... because he thinks they should get married. Sookie, reeling from that whiplash, accepts, and since the rules of TV beta couples states they must move faster than the main will-they-won't-they couple at all times, they get married, stay married, and continue struggling to effectively talk through big life decisions,with some admittedly nice moments in between.

Lorelai to Luke in Season 5 ep 22: A House is Not a Home and Season 6 ep 1: New and Improved Lorelai

Lorelai and Luke are in kind of a weird place at the moment, with Luke upset with Lorelai for considering selling the Dragonfly to a corporation owned by one of her father's contacts, which would have her traveling and consulting instead. While she's not too serious about it, she's enjoying being courted by the company, but this is in complete disregard for the giant house Luke bought without telling her or the kids he's thinking about having that he also hasn't discussed with her so it's causing problems. This is forgotten however with the news that Rory wants to take time off from Yale after receiving some rare negative feedback, and that Richard and Emily are letting her stay with them after just telling Lorelai they would help her force Rory back into Yale. So when Lorelai walks into the diner lamenting the fact that Rory is making a decision independent from the vision Lorelai had for her life, and Luke comes forth with a nonsensical plan to, again, force Rory back to Yale, Lorelai is touched that she finally has someone on her side. And since she's a veteran of the season finale marriage proposal, she celebrates having her partner agree with her by asking him to marry her. He accepts in the next season's premiere with no hesitation, but eventually their tendency to hide things from each other to not ruin their relationship.... ruins their relationship. Shocking.

Zack to Lane in Season 6 ep 16: Bridesmaids Revisited

Zack is on a bit of a redemption tour after ruining Hep Alien's showcase in front of a major label by throwing a tantrum about Brian potentially writing a song for Lane. This random burst of jealousy sends him on a power trip that has him throwing out their set list and screaming at his band mates until a fight breaks out and the band and him and Lane split up. But when he sees Lane in the music shop some time later putting up a flier advertising her drumming services to other bands, the thought of her daring to potentially continue living her life without him spurs Zach into action. He convinces Brian and Gil to get the band back together and they're in if Lane's in. And his way of getting Lane back is to walk into Luke's while she's working, go off on some tangent about how he doesn't feel good, and propose in front of a huge crowd of gossipy small town people. Lane must have smacked her head on some antique furniture that day because although she at least stops to ask if he's thought about this, when he presents her with the pawn shop ring he got that "belonged to like an Elk or a Moose or something", she accepts and walks right into marriage and babies land and right out of development that would make sense for her character or be interesting.

Christopher to Lorelai in Season 7 ep. 7: French Twist

Ever since Lorelai walked out of her fraught engagement with Luke and into Christopher's bed, he has taken the reality of a woman coping with feelings of rejection by hooking up with the man she keeps stashed in the background for occasions such as these, and spun it into an elaborate romantic tale of two star crossed loves who waited their whole lives to be together. And when Sherry who, guided by the hands of karma, previously abandoned Gigi leaving Christopher to raise her on his own, writes a letter saying she's totally fine now trust her and wants Gigi to spend a few months with her in Paris, Christopher invites Lorelai along for a big romantic gesture trip. They spend most of it jetlagged, but Christopher remembers he's super rich now (as opposed to just being regular rich like before) and he bribes a restaurant to open early for the two of them. Lorelai, basking in the romance™ of it all, confesses her love, and Christopher pounces on that and starts in on a whole speech. Basically, even though he said he'd be willing to wait for Lorelai to fall in line with his vision, he doesn't feel like waiting any more. Lorelai, sensing where this is going, suggests they wait, as they've only been really dating for a couple of months. She also brings up Rory, figuring she'd want to be up to date and present any big changes. But Christopher waves those perfectly valid concerns away, stresses how long they've known each other, insists that they're meant to be, and fate has brought them together. And then comes out with it and asks her to marry him. Which are very intense words for Lorelai, an emotionally vulnerable woman who just broke off an engagement because her fiancé seemed overly hesitant to actually get married, to hear. We don't see her accept, but there's a scene of them returning home where he calls her "Mrs. Hayden" (as if she would ever change her name), and their marriage immediately began to fall apart like wet tissue paper.

Logan to Rory in Season 7 ep. 21: Unto the Breach

It's the end of Rory's time at Yale, and on the heels of her New York Times fellowship rejection, rejections from other newspapers across the country, and the fact that she rejected her one job offer for better things that did not come, Rory's future is wide open and unstable. On the other hand, Logan is completing his character transformation from irresponsible party animal trust fund kid to hardworking and responsible trust fund kid, accepting a job offer for an internet company in San Francisco. The question emerges: How will the young couple handle this next phase of their lives? And when Logan shows up at Lorelai's house in the previous episode, he comes with a solution. He wants to marry Rory and take her to California, and he wants Lorelai's blessing to propose. She gives it, though not without trepidation, and Logan does propose. In the middle of the graduation party Richard and Emily are throwing for Rory, he gets up in front of everyone and takes out the ring. Rory is caught completely off guard and takes him outside to talk about it, where he reveals that he got the job, picked out a house for them to rent, researched newspapers where she could apply to work, and even planned activities for them to do in their spare time. The original plan being that she would say yes to his proposal without knowing all this and walk blindly into her new, pre-arranged West Coast life. But Rory needs time to process the idea of marrying Logan immediately after college, and on the day of her graduation, she declines. Logan decides if he can't marry her, there's no point in being with her at all, and the two go their separate ways, to eventually meet again in a years long affair, for some reason. Though I barely acknowledge the revival.

Honestly, the only proposal that truly makes sense is Lorelai's to Luke in the revival but I won't discuss it here because a) again, the revival basically doesn't exist to me and b) they should've married during the original run of the show.
