What I like about New Vegas is that out of all the Fallout games, it feels like it's the most aware of the fact that everyone is doing a bit of some kind from the fifties and is much more attentive and thoughtful than some of the other games to the implications of the fact that everyone is doing some kind of bit from the fifties.

The Kings are a salient example of this. The surface level gag, of course, is that they're a militant gang of Elvis impersonators, having adopted the aesthetic after their leader mistook a training facility for Elvis impersonators as some kind of religious site. Stock Future-imperfect stuff, oh-those-silly-wastelanders, elevating our pop-culture to the level of organizing-societal-principle.

Until, of course, you take into account the (singular) King's actual project- the fact that his gang is the defacto governing body of Freeside, the accompanying fact that he's got his anarchist predilections and thus would like to maintain that governing position without having to constantly kick people around to get them to listen. And here you've come across a guy from before the war who was apparently so incredibly charismatic that people came from all over the country to see him, so charismatic that they built an entire school to train people how to imitate his mannerisms. No shit they're gonna check if there's any gas left in that can! There might be some real practical power on the table if they can walk that walk! Even if the quick-and-dirty pitch for the gang is "Elvis Cult," there isn't really a spiritual component, they aren't morons who're mistaking this guy for a literal god, they just recognize that there might be some unreclaimed social capital here for them to tap into. And there absolutely is, in-universe and out- have you ever encountered a Fallout fan who didn't love The Kings?

Compare this, by the way, with the Three Families, who aren't in a situation where they're scrambling for a symbol they can rally populist support around. These guys are on top of the world. They aren't doing a bit because they're pursuing the social power that bit would provide them- there ultimately is some, but that's not why they started doing it and it isn't strictly something that they needed to do, given their combined force of arms. They're doing their respective bits because the guy with the robot army told them to. They're theme-park employees, working to brute-force back into existence the halcyon youth of a guy who can't even go outside to enjoy it.

It seems she has had a hard time settling down in the past, probably because of her affinity for a good revenge plot. Never let it be said that The Queen can't hold a grudge.

i finally finished this piece. i still have some qualms with it though, but if i didnt finish it now it would stay rotting in my ibispaint app and the thought of it staying unfinished would haunt me. if i get another wave of "king new vegas/elvis hyperfixation" then... maybe ill do another. actively avoiding looking too long at him because then i start picking it apart and seeing all the mess-ups and UGH. im gonna listen to some elvis.

FOUR pics this time! I realized kinda late that I accidentally walked right past HELIOS One so I backtracked and got that issue figured out, met this absolute buffoon named Fantastic and his coworker Ignacio. Those Followers of the Apocalypse seem interesting. I decided to send power to the full region because it just seemed like the smartest option. I also went back to Primm and fixed ED-E because I wanted a robot friend to help with the robot enemies. I finally decided to start helping this guy who calls himself The King, he seems nice! I also decided to get a couple of pictures with Veronica and ED-E because I just felt like there weren't enough of us together.

Currently making a mod for Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas for fun where you can collect coffee mugs. Each version will have their own unique mugs. Will be working on this in my spare time so please be patient!

Fallout: New Vegas Mugs

Unless stated otherwise, all mugs here are base game. There will be mugs that require DLC because it would not make sense to be in the actual mojave. Mugs will vary in rarity. Unique mugs mean there is only one in game.

Vault-Tec Generic: Will be more rare than Fallout 3, but still pretty common. Will most likely be found in Vaults. There will be Vault-Tec Mugs for Vault 3, 11, 17, 19, 21, 22, 34. Sell prices for are as follows: Generic 1 caps, Numbered Mugs 2 caps, Unique mugs 10 caps. *

Nuka Cola Mug: Will be the second most common Mug in Vegas and the Mojave area due to the manufacturing power of the Nuka Cola Corp! Sell price will be 2 caps due to them being more rare then the sunset sas cups. *

Nuka Victory Mug: Will be very rare, a max of 3 or 4 mugs in the wasteland, due to the rarity of Nuka Victory in Vegas in general and because the logo being a prototype rebranding. Sell price is 5 caps. *

Nuka Quartz: Will be rare but I dont know how rare yet, most likely 5 or 6 available. Sell Price will be 5 caps. *

Sunset Sas. Mug: Will be the most common Mug in the wasteland and I will be using this texture to replace the standard Mug. Sell price will be 1 cap (the cost of an actual coffee mug in Vegas) *

Sunset Sas Star Cup: Will be very rare, only 3 or 4 in the wasteland. Sell price will be 5 caps. *

The Tops Casino: Suggested by @theprincepeachii . Will be only accessible at the Tops Casino, however will not be that rare as it will be replacing all mugs in the Casino. Sell Price will be 2 caps. *

Gommorrah: Will only be accessible at the Gommorrah Casino. However will not be that rare as it will be replacing all mugs in the Casino. Sell price will be 2 caps. *

Gommorrah NSFW Cups: Will only be accessible at the Gommorrah Casino. However will be rare and will make a version of the mod without them in it, incase you don't want a titty cup. Sell price will be 5 caps unless I decide to make them unique then they will be 10 caps. *

Do you have stats in mind for our main man Benji?

Of course I do. We all know what brand of Freak I am, and it's the freak who will never get over FONV.

STRENGTH: 4. Sorry Benji but it's true.

PERCEPTION: 9. This is Benji's peak Stat, imo, and it's his biggest utility in the team. He's sharp, he spots things happening, and he keeps relevant blips of information on his mental radar even when he's focused on other things. (The airport scene in DR1 displays this well.)

ENDURANCE: 6. I think barring Luther who is The Van Guy, all IMF folks have at least a 6 in END.

CHARISMA: 10. This is secretly Benji's Actual most important stat as the soul of the team and the ballast to Ethan. He gets people to imprint on him remarkably fast and holds their loyalty easily. He and Ethan are both Charisma Kings but Ethan employs it overtly while Benji, it's a passive buff protecting him.

INTELLIGENCE: 7, which is very respectable. It's not higher bc that's Luther’s main stat and Benji is more of an jack of all trades.

AGILITY: 5. Middle of the road. Perfectly fine.

LUCK: oooooh toughie. As someone who always rolls at least 8 Luck, I have v strong opinions on this one... I think Benji has 4 Luck. He just doesn't get those staggering wild successes that are associated with high Luck. There is no fortune god smiling upon him, he has to brute force everything thru actual talent. He can't pull a "we just have to hope they've never met" basically.

His tagged skills are Science, Repair, and Explosives. ("wait, arc, why Explosives?" bc the skill applies to disarming dangerous things as much as arming them)

His perks are:

Confirmed Bachelor (+10% damage to the same sex and unique dialogue options with certain characters.)

Friend of the Night (Your eyes adapt quickly to low-light conditions)

Educated (You gain two more skill points every time you advance in level.) (this is how I explain Benji's batshit competence curve)

Ferocious Loyalty (When you drop below 50% HP, companions gain +50 DR.) (i.e. When Benji is in danger, everyone around him gets a buff.)

Pack Rat (Items with a weight of two pounds or less now weigh half as much.)

Nerd Rage (+15 DT and Strength increased to 10 whenever health is 20% or lower.)

Robotics Expert (+25% damage to robots; can shut down robots by sneaking up on them and deactivating.)

Spotter (Hostile targets are highlighted whenever the player is actively aiming.) (i.e. How Benji functions as Ethan's Perception aid.)

Well-Stacked Carins (Reaching various summits reveals nearby map markers and grants +3 Perception temporarily.)

King and Queen

Summery: Courier Six watched the sun rise over Freeside after a night spent with an old friend.

The sun had barely risen, a golden pink hue lighting the sky. Lucky had a blanket wrapped around her shoulders as she looked out over the streets of Freeside from the top of the King’s building. She loved the smell of Freeside, the smell of dirt and the dessert without the crowds of the strip. She watched as some kid started their day of chasing rats, shouting after the large rodent. She heard the door behind her open and close and listened to the man walk up to her, wrapping his arms around her waist, nuzzling his face into her neck. She sighed contentedly as he kissed her neck, his stubble scratching her surprisingly soft skin.

“Good morning King,” she whispered, her eyes set firmly on the rising sun.

“What are you doing up here, Lucky,” he asked quietly, not wanting to break the magic of the morning. She chuckled warmly, turning around to wrap her arms around him.

“You know, I’ve been on the go since I was sixteen. I have slept in burnt out cars, in crumbling buildings, disgusting cots, itchy beds, and even in a sleeping bag out in the wastes. But I can’t remember the last time I just sat and watched the sunrise.” The king chuckled and cupped her cheek, running a calloused thumb over her cheek, pressing his lips to hers gently.

“You are welcome to just watch the sunrise anytime you stay here,” he chuckled, looking up over her head to the still rising sun, the top of the burning orb just peeking out over the mountains. She turned and watched and sun rise, quickly heating the valley in which New Vegas sat. She watched as the sky went from pale early morning blue, to a warm golden sunrise, to the dusty blue it would remain for the rest of the day. She smiled as he began rocking her hips side to side, pressing little kisses to the side of her neck.

“Do you want to go back to bed,” he asked between kisses, his lips moving along her shoulder, up her neck, ending at her jaw. She slowly turned in his arms, wrapping her arms around his shoulders.

“Yes please,” she breathed, kissing his lips gently. He pulled her into his arms, lifting her feet up and carting her off to his room, where he curled up with her under the blankets, curling around her, holding her to his chest.

“Go to sleep, beautiful,” he whispered, smiling as her fingers curling into his hair.

“Goodnight, handsome,” she whispered back, pressing her lips to his once more before falling asleep.

King took another deep swig of his cola, downing the remainder of it before setting the glass down onto the wooden coffee table. Sitting back in the loveseat, his hand rubbed thoughtfully over his lightly-stubbled chin. 

“That is a real problem, sweetness.” 

“There’s nothing we can do, really.” Their eyes blankly looked out at nothing as they spoke, their expression somber. “The Legion is relentless, and House, well, he’s a stubborn old man. All we can do is wait out the storm and hope the right side is victorious.” 

“Baby, don’t be cruel.” King’s hand jostled their shoulder affectionately from where it rested over the back of the couch. “We can’t look at it that way. There’s always something we can do, if we’re brave and if we care enough to try.”

“But I don’t.”

“‘Don’t?’” He echoed, one dark brow quirked over a light, inquisitive eye. 

“I don’t care enough." They repeated, "I don’t care about any of it. House can keep the strip, the Legion can fuck off, the NCR can go back to California or just sit tight and hold the dam, just… leave us out of it. Leave Freeside alone, leave me alone, leave you alone. You’re all that matters to me, King. I don’t care about anything else.”

He tutted at that, and without looking, Six could tell he'd flinched at their words.

“It hurts me to hear you talk that way, baby. You’re always on my mind, you know that, but… You’re not all that’s there, and I wouldn’t want it that way for me in that own sweet head o' yours.”

“It’s just… hard to care, when there’s so little hope.” Six’s head leaned against King's chest as they fell into him, and his arm around their shoulders held them all the tighter. “You’ve been the only one I could depend on, the only one who’s believed in me, trusted me.” 

“I don’t know what to say, sweetheart. When it comes to you, I just can’t help believin’.” He felt their smile against his chest as he said it. “But that don’t mean I’m the only one, an' even if I was, wouldn’t mean there’s nothing we can do.” 

“How can you be so sure we can make a difference– or, well, you can make a difference, I mean, you’re The King.” Their body shook as they laughed against him, and King found himself smiling sadly. “But me…”

“Believe it or not, love, I wasn’t always who I am right now. Was just another bloke in New Vegas, is all…” 

“You’re right.” Six wrapped their arms around his waist, sinking deeper into the tender contact. “I don’t believe that. I can’t imagine you as anyone but who you are.” 

King’s other hand went to wrap around them as well, squeezing them tightly into him as he hummed. 

“Hmm. Well, who am I? To you?” 

They blinked up at him, giving The King a chance to admire the sheer wonder of them. Their eyes, the affection there, the beauty of the color; their face, the honesty of their expression. 

Who am I? He repeated the question to himself. A man who’s in love with you. That much, I know.

“To me?" They asked, pulling him gently from his thoughts, "Well, I thought I made it clear with what I told you earlier, you… You’re the one I care about, the one who believed in me–” 

“Who still believes.” He pressed a kiss to their hairline reassuringly. 

“Right. But, um, god, I don’t know, you’re just… You’re kind, you’re fair, you’re the only one who seems to care for the actual people of New Vegas and Freeside, not just the place itself or what it has to offer you. You’re a good man, King. One of the only ones I’ve ever met in this messed up world, and I can’t imagine that all that changed when you started going by ‘King’ instead of… whatever your name was before."

King chuckled openly at that, his mirth jostling Six in their seat.

"I love you," They continued, and the gang leader felt his heart bound and dance in his chest, "And everything you stand for... and I can’t imagine that would change either, no matter how much influence you have. No matter what anyone calls you.” 

His heart swelled all the more at that, a fog creeping into his stormy eyes, as The King cleared his throat. He couldn’t even respond, not to that-- how could he? When his vocal chords felt like they were closed up tight as a steel-coated vault? 

No, instead, one hand came up to guide Six’s chin up to face him, and he leaned down to give them a proper kiss; one that surely, had they been standing, would’ve ended in a romantic dip, one that made his heart and mind hold hands, as they so rarely had the opportunity to do, one that made his lashes flutter and Six’s breath hitch.  

“It’s amazing.” He finally whispered as he pulled away, his warm breath cascading over Six's still-parted lips and leaving his partner in a lovely daze that King himself had only just managed to shake.

“W-what?” Six stuttered as their eyes blinked open. 

“Well, how do you think I feel? Hearin' everything you just said, and thinking, my, now that sounds familiar.” 

Six’s eyes narrowed, obviously not quite following him. 

“It’s just the way I think of you, baby. All you said, I could say it right back, and not change a thing but the names. Before you were Six, I know you don’t know for sure, you can’t quite remember, but love, you were good then, too. I just know it.” 

King couldn’t help himself, he kissed them again, this time on the forehead, and he smiled into it as they pressed forward, reveling just the same as him in the sweet gesture. 

“And, jus' for the record, you do have the influence. You were the one decided this whole thing, you remember? The courier with the chip that changed the fate of New Vegas.” 

Six stiffened against his arm, still wrapped about their shoulders. 

“I know it’s a lot, baby. Trust me. It’s hard luck, what all you were saddled with, but it had to be for a reason. It had to be because you could handle it, you could make the difference this place needs.” 

He felt them take a shaky breath now, and though he was relieved that he was getting through to them, King’s chest couldn’t help but ache at the pressure Six was facing. 

“It doesn’t have to be tonight, though, darlin’.” He hauled them ever closer, practically pulling them into his lap, as he clasped his hands together with them snugly in his adoring grasp. “No, just… love me tonight. I want you with me, and that’s all.” 

His lips pressed to them, and they readily kissed him back, delving into the contact like it was a pleasant escape route. And how could he blame them?

“Just for tonight, we can make the world go away.” King whispered between sweet presses of his lips against theirs.

“An' we can work on saving it tomorrow.”

One of the most satisfying moments in Fallout New Vegas is meeting Caesar and seeing him grumpy because The Courier was causing so much trouble for his Legion.

"You're the courier who's caused so much trouble for my Legion, and yet you dare come before me.”

“Vulpes Inculta, the best of my frumentarii, is dead.”

“All the bribes I sent to the Omertas ended up buying me nothing.”

ive always wanted to draw him (and use him as an excuse to draw elvis but, like, a better version of elvis who doesnt come with elvis-sin and presley-burdens), and include the image of the kings school of impersonation blackboard because it brings me much joy.

and the king would be the one teaching the kings, at least at first, because it was just him and pacer in the beginning. which would imply that pacer would also be a teacher, and id like to imagine that new kings are terrified of pacer and would much rather prefer having the king teach them instead. pacer = strict substitute, the king = cool teacher
