Current favorite cherik fics - pt2
part 1 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5 | part 6 | part 7 | part 8
See what I mean when I say 'current'? lol anyway, heres some more. I will probably keep updating this every other week or so
To Know You Forever by sadbigchungus (Star Wars AU!!!)
High-raking Mandalorian Erik Lehnsherr is, much to his chagrin, assigned on a protection detail to solidify the new Jedi/Mandalorian alliance. His charge? None other than renowned scientist Jedi Master Charles Xavier. What he thinks will be a standard mission quickly devolves into something where the stakes are much higher, with the fate of Mandalore and the Republic hanging in the balance.
The stars incline us, they do not bind us by ikeracity, Pangea (top tier stuff, highly recommend - mind the tags!!!)
Intergalactic Federation pilot Lieutenant Charles Xavier is assigned last-minute to a high profile mission: transporting over two thousand prison inmates from an old and overfilled prison complex to a newer, higher-capacity prison stronghold located on the outer reaches of the galaxy. Just as he's settling down for a long and uneventful ride, things take a turn for the worse after the inmates riot and stage a hostile takeover of the ship, leaving Charles to find himself at the complete mercy of cold-blooded killers and facing the chilling prospect that he might not ever make it back home alive.
Special Topics in Mutant Studies by populuxe
The trouble with Charles Xavier isn’t just that he teaches genetics and holds terrible views about mutant rights—it’s also becoming increasingly clear that everyone but Erik seems to love him.
The Eldest of the Gods by lapetitesinge
It's 1928, and sixteen-year-old Charles Xavier is intrigued by the new boy joining him at Eton College. He's thrilled to realize that they may be alike in more ways than one, but there's more standing between them than he can possibly guess.
Playing House by ClarkeStetler, Goosenik
Erik Lehnsherr has been 'fighting for mutant rights' for the last couple years. Some might call it terrorism, but those people were narrow-minded. Unfortunately, this means that when Magda Maximoff died, no one was able to locate him to let him know that his children were without a guardian. Charles Xavier was selected as their foster parent instead, and had been doing an excellent job for the past year. Erik is back now and has no intention of being separated from his children, but working together for the kids is easier said than done. In a different situation— some anonymous bar in some overpopulated city, perhaps— Erik would absolutely have been interested. He was slender and looked about Erik’s age, but his eyes took up the majority of his face and were almost alarmingly blue. His dark curls looked like they were made for a hand to fist in. His anger was nearly palpable, sparking off him in waves that Erik could physically feel. Under any other circumstance, he’d be attracted, would have immediately started things working to get the pretty little Englishman back to his place. Not this circumstance. “You will not,” the Brit snarled at Erik, “Not be taking custody of my children.”

Previous Chapter
A few hours later- 12:30 AM
It’s been a few hours since the video was sent to the American military. As the Al-Shars, a new group with at least 150 members, patrolled and relaxed indoors, their lone prisoner was kept in the deepest part of the compound. Her hands were tied to the water pipe above; her 5 '6 frame was elevated off the ground. They only had the decency to keep her in her tank top and her panties.
‘How long has it been,’ Imani thought as her vision went in and out. After getting tazed, she was waterboarded for what felt like hours. She doesn't remember when she passed out but remembers how painful it was.
‘Alpha,’ Imani thought as she tried to tug at her restraints, ‘I gotta find Alpha.’
Imani heard the faint scrape of boots outside her cell door. She dropped limp against the cold floor, steadying her breath, heart pounding in her ears as the lock clunked open.
The door creaked. A soldier stepped inside.
It was him—Shithead 0-1, as she’d silently named him. The same one who’d yanked her by the hair and held her down under water for what felt like forever. One of the three who rotated guard duty. His silhouette filled the narrow frame of the doorway as he stepped in and quietly shut the door behind him. The lock clicked again.
He stood still for a second longer than necessary, watching her. Then his boots moved—slow, deliberate, not the usual bored pacing or routine check. She didn’t lift her head, but through the loose curtain of her curls, she caught the way his hands hovered near his waistband, and he muttered to himself in Arabic. He was clearly on something.
“Even if she’s one of those dirty dogs…” he said, voice low, eyes scanning her still body, “…she looks like she’d be fun.”
A flare of panic shot through her gut—but she kept still. She knew that tone. She knew those words. She knew what he meant.
Since she was young, Imani has been interested in other languages and cultures. From a young age, she would try to wander into her mother’s meetings with foreign officers and advocates to hear them speak their native languages.
Eventually, she convinced her parents to let her in a program that taught kids any language they could, promising she’d stick to it. She kept that promise and went well beyond it, getting the overachiever nickname from her siblings as a response.
At 23, she knows eight languages: English, Russian, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Swahili, and, most importantly, Arabic.
Imani's mind sharpened as the soldier continued to mumble under his breath. Based on his movements, he was drunk or high. But she knew what he was about to do, and she knew she couldn’t let him. And as he unsheathed the knife he kept on his hip, Imani used that moment of distraction to her advantage.
Imani’s legs shot up, her thighs squeezing like a vice. The man’s eyes widened in panic as he dropped the knife, his hands desperately clawing at her legs, but it was too late. She squeezed tighter, using his momentary confusion to her advantage, pressing harder until the life drained almost drained from his eyes. Almost. Because before she kills him, she needs to know one thing.
“Where is he,” Imani asked in Arabic as she squeezed her thighs tighter around his neck.
“You speak-” He tried to say as Imani squeezed harder.
“Yes, I speak Arabic. Now answer the fucking question,” Imani gritted her teeth, “Where is he?”
“You’ll d-”
“Answer the fucking question,” Imani snarled as she squeezed tighter, causing the man to gag, “Where. Is. Alpha?”
“It’s- It’s dead,” the grunt said in a short, ugly gasp, “The little bastard tried to kill us after it woke up, so we had to kill it! NOW LET ME GO!”
“Oh, so sorry,” Imani said as her eyes showed her wrath, “But unfortunately for you, I believe in an eye for an eye.”
With one final squeeze, Imani broke the man’s neck with her legs. But before she dropped his body, she grabbed the keys that were loosely on his belt with her feet and brought her legs up until her hands were able to catch them.
‘Thank god for gymnastics,’ Imani thought as she felt around for the keyhole of the cuffs. When she found it, she released herself from the cuffs and stubbled down on the ground as she tried to get used to her legs again.
‘Those assholes,’ she thought as she stripped the man of his pants and began to put them on, ‘They killed Alpha.’
While fixing the belt so the pants would fit, she couldn’t help but think about her mother. It was after her father stood up her mother for their anniversary dinner when she was younger, using the same ‘emergency excuse.' She and her sister sat with her as she cried in bed—not out of sadness but because of how angry she was.
It was there, her mom gave them both the best saying that any of them heard: “An angry woman, bitter and bold, spares nothing in her way.”
Imani understood what it meant now. This wasn’t just about survival—it was about reclaiming something that had been taken from her, something she would never get back. Alpha and her own peace of mind. And now, getting her get back was the only thing keeping her grounded.
Her eyes scanned the room. No obvious weapons were within reach, but she noticed the sharp edges of the broken chair in the corner. The same chair they used to torture her earlier. It wasn’t much, but it was something. She would make it work. Her mind was in survival mode, and her body just followed.
As she left out of the cells they kept her in, the stale air in the corridor was thick with dust, and the distant sound of muffled voices made her pulse quicken and her grip tighten on the shiv she made from the chair. Her bare feet slapped against the cold concrete floor, the sharp smell of oil and metal clinging to her skin as she moved cautiously forward, her senses alert for any sign of danger.
But during her exploration of the basement, she found a room. An interesting room, at that. In it, the room was filled with any crazy man’s dreams. Guns and explosives. It was then that a thought popped into her mind.
As she approached the equipment, her breath caught in her throat, a sharp pang of grief gnawing at her chest. Alpha was gone, the one who had been by her side through everything. The anger was instant, a red-hot fire in her veins. She clenched her fists until her nails dug into her palms, feeling the heat of her rage build. She would make them pay for this.
Meanwhile
“There’s the compound,” Soap said as they exited their van. “Helli is on standby, Price,” Ghost said.
“Good,” Price said as he walked to the driver’s side. Giving the man a few words in Arabic, the driver smiled at whatever Price was saying and gave them all a farewell.
“Alright now,” Price said as the car drove away, “We’re going to secure the barn first. Ghost, you're on armed overwatch until we clear it. After we secure it, you’ll join me, Soap, and Gaz so we can infiltrate the base.”
“Roger,” Ghost said as he began to find a good position.
“You two with me,” Price said as he led the way, “Keep this quiet.”
“Yes, sir,” Gaz and Soap replied in unison.
“Alright, let’s go.”
From his vantage point, Ghost could see his teammates moving in like shadows, their movements deliberate and precise. He scanned the area again, his senses alert for any sign of movement. The silence was eerie, almost suffocating. It was too quiet, but in their line of work, that was a good thing—for now.
Then, he saw Price and Gaz wait as Soap turned off the power to the barn. When the power went out, an enemy soldier came out to investigate. But he was quickly disposed of with a knife to the throat by Soap as he dragged him around the barn to hide the body.
“We’re going in,” Price said as he, Gaz, and Soap disappeared from view. From what Ghost could see from the outside, it was quiet. In this case, quiet was good—quiet means they weren’t detected. And based on the fact that no one on the outside is coming in, all is good.
“Ghost,” Ghost heard Soap call out on comms.
“Soap,” Ghost replied, noticing the shocked tone in the Sergeant's voice.
“Barn’s secured. You better wanna come look at this,” he heard him reply.
“Copy.”
With little to no hesitation, Ghost leaves his post and heads toward the door Price, Soap, and Gaz went through only a few moments ago. Ghost stepped forward, his boots silent on the dirt floor. Alpha’s eyes locked onto him, the wolf’s hackles raised, muscles tense. Ghost held his ground, his hand slowly reaching for the shirt. His heartbeat was steady, but the animal’s ferocity was palpable in the air around them. Once inside, he sees both Gaz and Soap standing further back, and Price looks amused.
But when Ghost finally turned toward the large cage semi-covered by a sheet, Ghost understood why Gaz and Soap were acting the way they were.
“Bloody fucking hell,” Ghost mumbled as he continued to walk closer to the cage, “Is that a-”
“Everyone, meet Alpha. Imani’s Wolf K9.”
Since he wolf hunts in his free time, Ghost was able to tell precisely what type of wolf it was. It was a grey wolf. He was also able to tell that the wolf was relatively young. No more than a year old. A ‘preteen’ in wolf years, at most.
“I’ve been in some sticky situations before, but a bloody wolf? You’re pulling my leg, Price,” Soap laughs in disbelief.
“No time for jokes, Johnny. Let’s focus,” Ghost cut through.
“Never mind that, that explains why you and everyone else looked smug,” Gaz mumbled, causing Price to chuckle. “How the hell did she get this?”
Price gave a knowing look, his voice low but steady. “It’d be best for Imani to explain. For now, we focus on getting him on our side.”
“But the big guy doesn’t exactly look happy to see us,” Gaz said as he and everyone else saw how the animal snarled at them in an attack position.
“Ghost,” Price called out, “The shirt. Let him get a whiff.”
Walking closer to the cage, Ghost took out the T-shirt and slowly approached him. As Ghost stepped forward, his boots were silent on the dirt floor. Not wanting to spook the canine. But Alpha’s eyes locked onto him, muscles tense. Ghost held his ground, his hand slowly reaching for the shirt. His heartbeat was steady, but the animal’s ferocity was palpable in the air around them. But as Ghost was right in front of the cage, Alpha bared his teeth and bucked at the British man.
“Easy, boy,” Ghost said as he walked closer, extending his hand so the shirt was near Alpha’s snout. As Ghost held the shirt near Alpha’s nose, the wolf hesitated, his snout twitching. The second the scent hit, Alpha froze, his eyes softening. His body language shifted from hostile to calm almost immediately. With even the faintest whiff, Alpha knew instinctively whose scent it was. Imani. He moved closer to the shirt, nudging it with his nose, desperate to be near her scent. He began to whine loudly, almost as if he knew that Imani had been taken and was sad.
“Let him out,” Ghost said to Price.
“Are you serious right now,” Gaz said in disbelief.
“I am,” Ghost answered simply.
“You’re one crazy bastard, Lt,” Soap said as he readied his weapon just in case.
“Got that right,” Ghost said as Price released the latches on the cage. Slowly backing away, Ghost lured Alpha out of the cage using Imani’s shirt. Dropping it down on the ground, Ghost, Price, Gaz, and Soap all watched as the wolf lay down with the shirt. He shoved his nose into it, sniffing as much of her scent as possible.
After whining a bit more, Alpha looked up and began to howl.
“What the hell,” Soap asked, “Why he-”
“Wolves howl to communicate,” Ghost answered, “He’s trying to figure out where she is.”
“How do you know,” Gaz asked.
“I do hunt when I get the chance,” Ghost answered as he looked at Gaz.
“Learn something new every day,” Soap joked, with Gaz humming in agreement.
“Now that Alpha’s secured, we have to find Imani,” Price said, gaining Alpha’s attention as he looked toward him.
“So, we’re adopting a wolf now,” Soap quipped, “What’s next? A bloody tiger?”
Price chuckles, “We’re here to get him and Imani out safe, not make him our mascot.”
But before anyone could respond or comment, a radio from one of the corpses began to hiss to life.
“Good evening, gentlemen," A female voice said, “Sorry to interrupt this lovely evening of drinking and soccer, but I’m afraid that ends now.”
“That’s our girl,” Price sighed in annoyance as he reloaded his gun.
“How do you know,” Gaz asked as he, Ghost, and Soap followed suit.
“Only an American calls football soccer,” Price answered in the same annoyed tone.
“She is a Yankee,” Soap added.
“Because I’m so nice, I’m going to give you all a bit of a heads-up,” the female voice continued as the boys gathered around the radio, "In the next two and a half minutes, I’m going to blow this place up. And everyone but you, Marwan Mustafa, will be dead.”
“Are you insane,” a male voice—likely Marwan Mustafa—crackled over the dead man’s walkie-talkie, “You think you can take me? I have 150 men here!”
“Do you think numbers matter to me,” Imani responded, "There could be thousands of you here, and the outcome would be the same.”
“YOU CAN’T WIN THIS!”
“What makes you say that,” Imani replied with, a smile evident based on her tone, “I wouldn’t have made my presence known if I couldn’t take you head on. I would have taken you all down one at a time until it was only you. But where is the fun in that?”
At that moment, Gaz, Soap, Price, and Ghost heard it. The deafening roar of an explosion that rocked the entire estate. It sounded like five firework shows going off at once.
“Mustafa, let this be a lesson for you,” Imani began, her voice firm and sinister, “Don’t leave your prisoner and your entire explosive stockpile on the same floor!”
“Bloody hell! She rigged the compound,” Soap asked as everyone tried to steady themselves.
“Oh fuck me. Let’s move,” Price yelled as Alpha ran out of the barn with them not too far behind.
As they all stood outside the barn, they all noticed the smoke coming from the far end of the estate. But another explosion rang out before they could even say or think anything else.
“It’s a goddamn fire show out here,” Gaz exclaimed as they felt the ground shake as more and more explosions rang out.
“I guess the lass was tellin the truth,” Soap huffed, “None of those bastards were getting out of this alive.”
Before Price could respond, they began to hear gunfire from the courtyard of the main compound.
“Move to the courtyard,” Price said as he opened the door from which they came in. But before he could walk through, Alpha barreled his way through and ran towards the gunfire as the estate went dark. The power going down due to the explosions.
“Bravo team, move out on Alpha,” Price ordered as he and the rest followed behind them. But due to Alpha being a literal wolf, they couldn’t keep up with him, losing him as he ran like a bat out of hell.
“Shouldn’t we go after him,” Soap asked.
“Negative. We’ll try to find him later. Mission Priority is Sergeant Barnes,” Price said.
As they all jogged to the commotion nearby, gunfire, explosions, and shouting were heard. They would have thought it was a full-on battle between two forces rather than the result of one woman.
“Here’s the main door,” Price said as he and Ghost went to one side and Soap and Gaz to another.
At that point, the courtyard beyond the massive doors was dead silent—the complete opposite of what it had been a few minutes earlier.
“Think she’s dead,” Soap asked the obvious question.
“One way to find out,” Price said, “Prepare to breach in three…Two…On-”
But the door to the main compound opened before Price could finish his countdown—not enough for a vehicle, but enough for someone to get out. The four men hid the best they could behind the massive gates as a figure walked out, dragging something behind them. At that moment, the emergency lights they presumed came on and lit up the area—and the person who came out as well.
There, standing drenched in blood from head to toe, was a young woman. No shoes, pants ripped, tank top hanging on by a thread with visible bleeding scars and bruises on her skin. She looked up to the night sky with a dazed look. Closing her eyes, she took in the clean air and took a deep breath. As the men all walked out of their hiding spots, weapons still drawn, the woman turned around fast and put a gun to the man’s head.
“Drop your weapons, or your friend gets it,” she said as she held a 9mm to her hostage’s head.
With a glance, the four men recognized the man she had restrained. Marwan Mustafa was worse for wear. Even more so than the woman.
“Are you Sergeant Imani Barnes,” Price asked.
Noting what sounded like a British accent, Imani began to look them over while holding firm to her weapon. They didn’t look like the mercs or militias she was familiar with. They looked like real-deal soldiers. And the Union Jack and the SAS patches on their uniforms confirmed it. ‘The Special Air Service,’ she thought in confusion. “Who are you, and how the hell does a bunch of SAS soldiers know me?”
“My name is Captain John Price. We were sent to rescue you.”
“Bullshit,” Imani shook her head as she readied her weapon again, “This area was deemed too dangerous. It’s crawling with extremist groups. No one in their right mind would have come for me.”
“Laswell would,” Price said, knowing her name would be the only thing to conceive her.
“Auntie Kate,” Imani said in disbelief.
“Auntie,” Soap looked at Price confused.
“Yeah. Laswell heard what happened and sent us to get you and Alpha,” Price explained as he put his weapon away, ignoring Soap’s question, “So, can you please put the gun down now?”
Squinting her eyes again, Imani looked at the four men with suspicion. But what choice did she have? Imani was miles from the nearest ally base and slowly lost her footing. As painful as it is to admit, she wouldn’t last long out here by herself.
“Fine,” Imani sighed as she lowered her gun and dropped her hold on Mustafa's shirt, making him land on some of the wounds on his back, causing a grunted in pain to escape his lips.
“I'm glad to see you’re safe, lass,” Soap said as he and Gaz walked closer to her. Ghost and Price went over to secure Mustafa.
“You feeling alright,” Gaz asked as he looked her over.
“I could be better,” Imani answered, “You said you came looking for me and Alpha. Did you find him?”
Before they could respond, a woof was heard a few distances away. All of them turned. Ready to engage in whatever the threat possibly was. But when she saw that familiar grey and black fur, Imani’s once sunken eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas day.
“ALPHA,” she called out as the wolf charged at her.
Pouncing on her, the girl groaned in pain but laughed it off as she held her best friend in the whole wide world, running her hand through his mixed-colored fur.
“I missed you too, pal,” Imani laughed as she kissed his snout. Sitting up, Alpha sat in front of her with his tongue out, doing his most goofy smile.
Because the boys were busy watching Imani interact with her wolf, Mustafa took that as his chance to try and make a run for it. But due to the beating he received from Imani, he was tripping over his own feet.
“Is he serious right now,” Imani asked in a broad tone.
“We’ll get him,” Soap said.
“No, it’s ok,” Imani said as she slowly stood up, “Alpha.” At the mention of his name, Alpha slowly walked around Imani and began to growl. His face now in a snarl as he remembered the man. He looked at the fleeing Mustafa as prey but wouldn’t charge until he heard the order.
“Fetch.”
That was all he needed to hear as he began to run down the man. It didn’t take long for Alpha to grab onto the man’s ankle, biting down hard.
As the man screamed and tried to kick the wolf off, Alpha dragged the man back to the group.
“Good boy,” Imani praised as Alpha released the man and sat beside her, waiting for his head scratches, which he happily received.
“You fucking bitch,” Mustafa yelled as he held his injured ankle.
“Oh, cry me a fucking river,” Imani said as she kicked the man in the stomach, “Captain Price, permission to bring him back to base?”
“Why,” Price asked in confusion.
Reaching into her bra, Imani pulled out some crumbled papers.
“I found this when I was planting those charges,” Imani said as she gave Price the papers.
With an ‘alrighty then’ look, Price grabbed the papers from her and unfolded them. When he did, he looked back up at Imani and down at the papers.
Wondering what their Captain was looking at, the three other men looked at the paper and looked bewildered, like Price.
As clear as day was a headshot of Imani dressed in her dress uniform when she passed basic training. And underneath that, in bold letters, were ‘Wanted: Alive.’
“It appears,” Imani began, making the four men look back at her, “I got a target on my back.”

I saw your trolls au where Branch raises Coooer and I wanted to know.......could you please info dump on it??? I'm all ears! :3
Tumblr media
OK first of all I'm sorry it took me so long to get to this, it's been literal months lol
I'd be happy to infodump about it, and I finally have time!!!
Putting it under the cut just in case this gets really long lol
So I got the idea for this AU because of a fanart I saw on pinterest. It seemed to be concept art for a Broppy au with the pairing trope of kindergarten teacher × single parent, with Poppy as the teacher, obviously, since that's canon, and Branch as the single parent. I couldn't tell who the kid under Branch's arm was, and assumed it was an OC (I later figured out it was probably Keith from the TV show).
But this made me think about how I would do such an AU, because I like to try and avoid using OCs in fanfiction, especially for any major role in the story. It's just more fun to think about which canon characters, no matter how minor, could fill the roles I need.
Anyway, somehow I came to the conclusion that I would take one of the main cast from the first movie and de-age them. At first I considered Biggie for some reason, but then I realized that Cooper already has a very childlike personality, so he's easier to imagine as a child... and then I recalled his backstory that was revealed in the second movie...
See, Cooper's egg fell from the sky and landed amongst the pop trolls, and I get the distinct impression that this was after the escape from the Troll Tree, both because of the forest-looking background in the flashback, and just sorta from the way Cooper tells the story. And since the first movie takes place on the twentieth anniversary of their escape from the Bergens, this means that Cooper is less than 20 years old, and is therefore a teenager in the first movie. Which honestly makes so much sense for how he acts.
I also headcanon that he as ADHD, though. With the way he frequently seems to space out and miss parts of conversations, or just doesn't follow along with what someone said, the way he makes weird connections between what's going on and something random... and he's pretty easily distracted... as someone who actually has ADHD, it seems pretty obvious once I thought to look for it! And I will be writing this headcanon into my comic.
I might as well get into the little bit of plot I've got for the movies, though it's just vague ideas, really.
For the first movie, I'm actually not certain what I'm gonna do... should Cooper be one of the ones taken or not? It would make Branch way more fired up to go get them back, and just generally more emotional and snappy throughout the whole thing, but on the other hand I've still gotta get through how actually raising Cooper changes Branch... like, technically the point of this is to force him to interact with Poppy more prior to canon events because she's Cooper's teacher lol. So idk about the first movie.
But the second one! Branch is either more or less paranoid and I'm not sure which is better lol, but he'll be a lot more prepared before leaving with Poppy on her impulsive quest, because he's gotta make sure his son is taken care of while he's gone. Cooper is only 5 and obviously isn't gonna come with them, that'd be stupid!!! ...unfortunately for Branch, Cooper listened in on the meeting, and snuck out of bed to follow his dad, heard him talking to Poppy, and since he both doesn't want his dad to leave him (trauma from the first movie????) and wants to find out where he came from... Cooper sneaks onto the balloon lol. Biggie might not even come with them, idk. Or maybe I'd have DJ Suki come with just cuz I like her and it's a shame she wasn't in the second and third movies. Idk.
Anyway this means I get to draw baby Prince D as well!!! Cooper doesn't get to the funk trolls before Branch and Poppy because he's traveling with them! The King and Queen haven't been searching for as long as in canon, and oooo boy there's gonna be drama lol. Because technically the funk trolls have a right to keep Cooper??? And Cooper isn't an adult or mostly-adult who can make his own decisions about where to live??? I mean, at the time, Cooper and D are just excited to meet each other. And there's a rock apocalypse to stop. And Cooper wasn't supposed to be along in the first place because this quest is no place for a small child.
Anyway yeah, the second movie is gonna be so fun to write with an adhd five year old along for the ride lol.
Third movie, Cooper might not even be in it, or he might take the place of Tiny, idk yet. I think I'm leaning more towards Cooper staying with the funk trolls for the duration of the movie events as some sort of split custody thing so Cooper can get to know his twin and bio parents??? But. This means that Bruce is not the only Brozone member to have become a dad during the split. ;3
And I think it'd be so funny if Branch and Poppy don't mention Cooper, or at least don't refer to him as Branch's son, until they get to Vacay Island, and Bruce mentions how becoming a father really changed him, and Branch can say something like, yeah, I know what you mean. And John Dory gets a double shock because what???? Spru– Bruce is a father??? And SO IS BRANCH???? WHAT??? Hahahahahaha!!!! It's gonna be hilarious >:3
Anyway, cue Branch and Bruce gushing over their kids, Branch showing photos of Cooper, someone asking if/implying that Cooper is Branch and Poppy's kid, the silly flustered denials because they may be dating but they are NOT ready to have that talk yet lol (it's an understandable assumption tho bc Poppy and Cooper are a similar shade of pink and Cooper does have that bright blue hair and at this point Branch and Poppy are obviously together so???)
OK so that was in fact a long rant as I expected, hope you enjoyed, and thanks for the ask!! I won't be working on the comic until after Christmas because it's gift-making time and I have. Two months. To make at least 6 presents. Aaahhh.

Devotion Nanami Kento
Synopsis : Dreaming of your late father, you realized visiting his grave shouldn’t feel like chore nor burden. You change the way you view visiting his grave with the simple pleasures of a bakery that’s right next door to the flower shop.
(This is a bit long, please bear with me)
Tumblr media
-
To say you had been woken up due to the early sun beaming through your blinds would be an understatement. Unfortunately this morning you were woken up due to a cold sweat, seeming to gasp for air at the same time.
It has been 5 months since the day you lost your father. And just in 7 days, it’ll be the 6th month mark. The thought of another month since his passing caused you to drown yourself in the comfort of your blankets, trying to block the sun from bothering you anymore along with the rest of your problems.
Hoping to rest just a while longer was cut short to your phone ringing somewhere alongside you. Desperately trying to find the device to put an end to the loud disturbance you answered the phone while mustering the strength to get out of bed.
“Hello?”
“(Y/N) sweetie, how are you?” It was the soothing voice of your mother on the other end.
“Hi mom, I just woke up not long ago actually. If it weren’t for your call right now I would still be rotting in bed.” Your mom let out a soft laugh, causing you to smile.
“Well I’m glad I was of help this early in the morning my love, I just wanted to call you and check up. It doesn’t seem to get any easier for me to make it non awkward for us.” You sighed just lightly hoping your mom didn’t catch.
“6 months soon and I still can’t seem to get it right can I, (Y/N)?” You hum in response to your mom.
“It’s nothing to worry about mom, I’m an adult now. If I were a child I think fathers whole passing would have been a whole different story for us.” You respond calmly while making your way to the kitchen.
Your parents divorced when you were a child. Being raised by a single mother and only seeing your father on the weekends growing up. Most young kids tended to favor the father more but seeing your mother struggle to make ends meet made you see things differently at a young age. Especially once you were understanding of the situation was when your mother told you the truth. Your father was unfaithful to your mother.
“Plan on doing anything special this time around (Y/N)?” Your mother asks as you pour yourself a cup of tea. You paused. ‘Should I tell her?’
Since your fathers passing, you couldn’t really make out what to think about it. Of course you were sad. But ultimately each time you actually sat down and thought about it, you felt nothing. Like a void that was not empty nor full. In the beginning your mother was concerned, causing her to have her own doubts if she had done the right thing years ago in opening up to you about the truth.
But you had reassured her multiple times in the past that even before being revealed to the truth that your relationship with your father was strained. Something you also couldn’t pinpoint as to why. So there was no need to worry she failed to protect you and your relationship with your father.
“I dreamt about him last night mom.” You replied in a hushed tone while sitting down on your small circular wooden table.
“It was a short dream. Though it felt so real. I couldn’t make him out in the beginning but once I realized it was him I broke down. He was two other little kids alongside with him. They were both girls. One at least two years old and another eleven years old,” you started to feel hot tears forming in your eyes “it felt so real mom. I don’t know where people go once they pass but if that was a sign that he’s doing alright I’ll go along with that.” Tears started to stream down your face, your left hand holding your phone up to your ear and your right clutching your chest.
“Well it’s a possibility that could be true my love. When your father passed I liked to think he’s with your older sister sometimes too.”
Your mothers response made you smile, wiping away your tears you let out a small laugh.
“Do you think the younger child must be another’s lovers child?” You respond with a witty tone that makes the both of you laugh.
“Sometimes I wonder how serious and unserious you can be at times (Y/N)” you mother says while calming down.
“You should visit him more often (Y/N).”
Walking back towards your room, leaving the forgotten tea you had make earlier and walking towards your bedroom window to open and let fresh mourning air in you hum in response, “I’ll try my best mom.”
“I forgave your father a long time ago (Y/N), I hope you can as well someday.” Looking over at your clock,
9:35am
“Thank you mom, for everything.” You knew your smile could be felt on the other end for your mother, “I love you so much (Y/N) I’ll try my best to visit you soon, try to have a productive day today!”
After ending the call with your mom, you promised her you would. Starting with making your bed.
-
11:40am
Locking your apartment door behind you and putting your keys in your bag you walked down towards the entrance of your apartment building.
The sunny weather felt like a warm blanket as you walk down the street while soft breezes pass you. You don’t live far from the city’s downtown where all the restaurants, shops and livelihood are.
After the phone call with your mother you had a moment thinking of what she had told you.
I forgave your father a long time ago
The feeling of guilt almost entirely overcame you until you had promised your mother you’d have a productive day.
And you knew deep down inside your father wouldn’t want you rotting away in bed and be a lazy person ignoring their problems.
With almost nothing to do on your day off you decided to visit your fathers grave while the weather is still warm.
You almost never visit your fathers grave, and if you do it always been less than shamelessly 15 minutes.
Shaking away your thoughts as you come closer to the flower shop, the smell of freshly baked goods seem to get closer. Looking past the flower shop, you see an entrance to what seemed to be a small tucked away bakery. You hadn’t noticed until now that there was such a place.
Granted when you stop by the flower shop it was always a swift stop as you tend to always wish to get visiting his grave over as quickly as possible.
Looking down at the time,
12:02pm
It was still early in the day, plus being eager to get about your day you forgot to bring a water bottle with you, you couldn’t see why not stopping for a quick refreshment at the bakery.
-
Walking inside, you were immediately greeted by the smell of the warm sweet treats and the friendly atmosphere. Not too busy but just a little tight for your liking.
Perhaps next time I can plan to take some baked goods with me to the gravesite
Walking up to the counter you order a cup of lemonade and requested a small cup of water to accompany.
Deciding to enjoy and bask in the smell of the bakery you sat down in the nearest small table in front of the window, sipping on your refreshments as well as just looking out the bakery’s window watching as life goes by.
The bakery’s peace was at a mellow stance until your thoughts were interrupted by the doors bell ding, and steady footsteps being heard ushering towards the front.
You looked over to see a tall frame in a dark mocha colored suit sort of frantically trying to get his order in as fast as possible.
Not wanting to seem so curious you look back towards the window, unbeknownst in looking at the man’s reflection.
Tall, blond, fit, nice looking suit. He must be a businessman.
As the man turns around to wait for his order to be ready at the other end of the counter, he slightly leaned back checking his watch in haste, sighed in what seemed of exhaustion, quickly looked up while still waiting
His eyes met yours in the reflection of the window.
Caught, you felt your ears get hot and you looked away from the reflection of his eyes. Looking down, anywhere but back at his.
Trying to smoothly drink quickly the remainder of your beverages left, you got up and quickly thanked the staff before heading out.
As you walked past the window you were looking out of just now you tried your best to not look back in again to see if the tall man was still there. Filled with blush and embarrassment you quickly opened the door to the flower shop.
-
“Yes those are beautiful, I’ll take just a small bouquet of those daisies please.” Smiling at the older lady, and as she starts to make her way towards the back to prepare the bouquet your steps head towards the display of all the other flowers the shop had displayed.
Nothing it was just yourself in the shop you noticed how quiet it was inside, the faint sounds of the scissors being put to work in trimming your bouquet.
Deep in thought of the beautiful colors the flowers came in you hadn’t notice that another person walked into the shop.
“Tiger flowers, vibrant as can be around this time around,” the soft voice of a man says behind you.
Taken out of your thoughts, you look up quickly seeing the reflection of the green tinted windows of the flower shop you see the man from the bakery behind you.
Swiftly turning around to meet the man’s eyes you could feel your whole face feel hot, unsure to smile or apologize for earlier at the bakery.
Looking at him closer, you note his features. His strong facial expressions, his circler metal glasses, and his lips.
Does this man have a permanent frown? He’d be totally more inviting if he didn’t..
Pushing your thoughts away you smiled at the man, agreeing with him.
“Yeah, the vibrant colors are beautiful.” You responded, not sure on how this conversation would go.
Before more words can be said the flower shop employee had just finished your bouquet of flowers you requested.
“Miss (L/N), I got your bouquet all nice and ready!”
In the beginning of the your fathers passing, you had frequent here at the flower shop, and you explained as to why you were buying flowers in the first place to the elderly worker. She didn’t pry but she had vaguely mentioned how certain flowers have different meanings. You can recall how generous she was and how she took care into making your bouquets.
Looking back at the counter you smiled back at her and headed towards her, ready to make your purchase. Not before giving one last smile towards the man.
As you pull out your wallet, you hear the lady greet the man.
“Oh Kento! It is nice to see you again! How are you? Looking at different flowers today? I can assure you those Tiger Flowers can last up to two weeks!”
The man’s footsteps can be heard walking towards the both of you.
“Thank you Mrs. Ua, but I intend to buy white roses this time.” The man now standing next to you stands tall and firm, so tall he’s looking down at the elderly lady.
“Oh well Kento, I’ll just have to keep hoping both of your two’s healing journey will show you how other flowers can look just as lovely placed onto headstones!”
Slightly shocked at her response, you looked up at the man
So he’s visiting someone too? I figured he was probably coming in to buy his significant other flowers
“I’m sure soon enough we can Mrs. Ua,” Kento responded whilst looking down at your bouquet that was placed gently on the counter, “Mrs. Ua, actually I’ll go ahead and change the white roses to daisies as well. And you can go ahead and allow me to pay for this woman’s bouquet as well.”
How many times am I going to keep being heating up because of this man?
Trying to calm yourself down, you quickly object.
“Oh! Oh no, please it’s totally fine! You don’t have to!”Blushing furiously now the man looks down at you, slightly smiling.
“Please, allow me to. It would certainly brighten up my day.”
An excited coo can be heard from Mrs. Ua
-
Had you ever think that you’d be walking now alongside a man you had just met less than 30 minutes ago. No.
Whilst Mrs. Ua was preparing his bouquet small talk had to ensue. If it hadn’t been for the man you had learned name was Kento, he was the first to start.
“Are you headed to visit a love one as well?” He asked you while leaning on the flower shops counter this time, whilst you still faced towards the back. Once again the faint hearing the faint scissors at work.
“Yes, I am. I am planning to visit my late father today,” your heard turns toward the man, slight tilting your head up to look at him, “are you doing the same?”
The blonde man looks down at you quickly before looking away again, facing the shops display of flowers.
“Yes I am, except I plan to visit my friend.” Smiling at him, “as sad as the circumstances may be, it’s nice to meet you-,” before you could say his name, he then finally introduced himself.
“Kento Nanami.” He looked down at you once again.
“(L/N) (Y/N),” you smiled at him, “it’s nice to meet you Kento Nanami,” with a beaming smile.
I honestly have no idea where this is going. I started at 1 am, I’m pausing at almost 4 am. Please forgive me!! Also this blog is so old. I am no longer 19 anymore but 21. I hope to get back into writing.
I would love to hear feedback and suggestions to continue this little plot!

Hogwarts Legacy: What If Your Closest Friends Joined the Final Battle Against Ranrok? (ao3) - Loki_B_Mohammad G, 4k
Summary: I recently finished my first playthrough of "Hogwarts Legacy." I could never get into the Harry Potter books, and frankly, J. K. Rowling's recent behaviour made it difficult for me to even attempt this game. However, a copy was loaned to me (so I wouldn't have to pay for it), so I gave it a shot. It's such a shame the legacy is ruined by the actions of a bigot, but man, did I love this story.
That being said, I absolutely adored the characters in the game, and I was rather disappointed that the 5 friends you fought at least one battle alongside through the game didn't make an appearance in the last battle. Thus, this little bit of a re-write was born.
Most of the actions and dialogue are the same as in-game, but a LOT was rewritten to make more sense in the moment. I, of course, used my own Ravenclaw PC from my playthrough as the leading lady. Enjoy.
Ice wine and the new year (ao3) - Saltythewatermelon phineas/aesop/matilda T, 1k
Summary: Another small one shot, this follows our favorite Headmaster pining away on new years eve while his beloved is away in Germany on an assignment from the ministry.

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie (ao3) - Flashofhope G, 1k
Summary: Aesop Sharp is a dog animagus, who seldom uses that ability outside of being an auror. But on a day when his leg hurts more than usual, he wants nothing more than to rest on his bed and forget about his human troubles.
Make Room for Merlin (ao3) - TheMasqueradeReveler ominis/OFC G, 15k
Summary: Gwendolen Hughes has never been one to sit still, especially when the future feels like it’s closing in. With Auror training on the horizon, she convinces herself that sneaking away for one last adventure won’t hurt anyone. Matilda Weasley disagrees. Vehemently.
Dragged home in the middle of a brewing storm, Gwen is forced to face the cost of her choices—not through words, but through action. And in the quiet that follows, she’ll learn that growing up was never about losing freedom, but finding where she truly belongs.

The Room of Requirement (ao3) - valgray player chater/matilda E, 1k
Summary: Surely if a fantasy is to come to life in Hogwarts, it would be in the Room of Requirement.

Hello. What do you think Vergil's life was like before the events of the DMC3 game and manga? How did he live? Was he homeless, or did he have a place? Did he have any friends? Did he stole? How did he acquire all his power and knowledge?
Hello!
I believe in his very early years, between the ages of 9 to maybe 13 at least, he would've been living out on his own. I dont see young Vergil as the kind to trust strangers so easily so him living on the streets is plausible, getting by off of things he's stolen or even begging if he was that desperate. Him also spending a lot of time in places like public libraries is something i see happening; its somewhere warm and sheltered, and he has a chance to read and learn too.
At some point before the DMC 3 we know Vergil visited Fortuna, my guess is he was around 14-15 at this time. Now its left up to interpretation what his life was like back then and you dont have to agree with my HCs, but my version of events runs a little something like this;
Having spent most of his life vulnerable on the streets, fending for himself and barely scraping by, he arrives in Fortuna seeking out information regarding Sparda, and possibly how to gain the level of power his father had as well. During his time in Fortuna he meets the Lady in Red, personally i really like the idea of them meeting in a library and her teaching Vergil how to read the language Fortuna's texts uses (in Deadly Fortune, Dante comments he cant understand what the books are saying in that room where Nero first fights the angelos.) But regardless of how they met, Vergil sees a chance at a new life in Fortuna with her. So he settles down with her, gets to know her a bit more, and finds himself a peaceful slice of paradise in the quaint little city, eventually concieving a son (Nero). But of course since he was a child, he's rightfully been paranoid of demon attacks, and even more so now that he's built himself a new start. Gaining the power to protect himself had always been his main goal in life, but now he wants to protect these people too.
Cue DMC 3, raising the temennigru to gain ultimate power and whatnot. I feel he had plans to return to Fortuna post-temennigru, but unfortunately we all know how that game ended...
As for his power and knowledge, I think a lot of his power stems from Yamato and whatever Sparda had taught him in his childhood. In Fortuna he could've read up more on Sparda and demonic things and gained further knowledge then. That, and constant training of his abilities whenever he can (going off of his sword taunt in DMC 5 where he goes through a routine with Yamato, we know he does train when possible. He could also do that with his DT form, giving reason as to how he's able to use it so effortlessly and for a tad bit longer than Dante as well.)
(Also i believe that Vergil gained his DT when he was a kid, specifically when he was stabbed by those demons and almost killed in VoV. We never see him trigger of course, but how else would an 8 year old survive an attack like that? Half demon or not.)
I hope that answers everything! Thank you for asking, i love having an excuse to rant about my beloved Vergil <3

Help me choose my next project!
Per custom, I have too many ideas and no clue which one to go with. So I'm going to leave it up to the fates. (Aka, you. You're the fates.)
All of these are Umbrella Academy fics, but you don't need to know anything about the show to vote. Just choose whichever title sounds coolest, or feel free to read the summaries beneath the poll.
Most of my fic ideas are Five or Vikor-centric. There's a Klaus one in there though, and an Allison one.
1. time, that fickle temptress
At first, Five assumes it’s a fluke, the trick of a tired mind. Just a lost recollection here or there; nothing too unusual for a man of his age. But when the memories begin disappearing at a faster rate, Five begins to piece together what is truly truly going on.
His mind and body are attempting to realign. He’s becoming thirteen again.
2. i look in a mirror and i see you
Five Hargreeves has been trapped in the apocalypse for almost five years; a bit ironic, isn’t it? His powers are working just fine, but he finds himself faced with a peculiar problem: he can’t seem to find the right timeline.
After another jump goes wrong, Five finds himself in a universe where he and his siblings were never adopted; in fact, they never even had powers. It’s there that he meets a younger version of himself, and sees what life might’ve been like if it weren’t for his father.
3. the voice of god
Allison is tired of losing everyone and everything she loves. Be it the fault of her father, the universe, or the careless actions of her siblings, she’s reached the point where she can’t take it any more. Someone needs to suffer for what has happened, and Allison is more than willing to make them suffer.
In which the author gives Allison a self-indulgent villain arc that does not involve sexual assault.
4. a morbid reflection
The Hargreeves may be broken people, but they have always tried their best to do what is right.
This isn’t the case in every universe.
When Allison reset the timeline with an incomplete equation, it fractured, resulting in dozens of different universes that are shaky reflections of the original. The Hargreeves and their allies have been scattered across these dimensions, trapped in worlds that are not their own with no clear path home.
Lila finds herself alone in one such universe. In this timeline, the members of the Umbrella Academy are not the heroes that are known and loved in other dimensions. Instead, they are the villains of this world, dark and twisted versions of the people Lila has come to love.
Unfortunately for her, if she’s going to get home, she’s going to need their help. She’ll do whatever it takes to convince them--or trick them--into giving her what she wants. But Lila isn’t the only one with ulterior motives; unbeknownst to her, there’s someone else pulling the strings, and they aren’t afraid to let the world burn along the way.
“This is the price of being powerful. Sometimes we step on ants.”
5. oh to be young again
Five tries to reverse the mistake that got him trapped in his 13-year-old body. Something goes wrong, and now his siblings are stuck as kids, too.
6. my brother’s keeper
(An Umbrella Academy/The Hunger Games AU) When Five Hargreeves’ brother is reaped for the 170th Annual Hunger Games, Five volunteers in a desperate ploy to save his life. He doesn’t expect to win, not when he’s so much smaller and younger than the rest of the tributes, but he’s willing to do anything to get back to Viktor. If that means defying the odds and fighting his way through twenty-three tributes to return home, then so be it.
Unbeknownst to Five, rebellion is boiling at the seams of Panem. The flame of revolution that died nearly a hundred years ago with Katniss Everdeen has been rekindled, and it has chosen this year’s tributes as its puppets.
Now Five finds himself faced with two choices: play the Capitol’s game and lose himself in the process, or fan the fires of revolution and risk losing the world instead.
7. the skeleton key
Klaus can’t take it any more; after one too many evenings spent trapped in the house of the dead, the ten-year-old boy decides to call the authorities on his father. Things don’t go quite as planned, and after months of brutal court cases and custody battles, Klaus and his siblings are scattered across the country through the foster care system.
Six years later, and Klaus hasn’t heard from his siblings since the day they were torn apart. As far as he’s aware, they never want to see him again; he did destroy their life, after all. But then a powerful new enemy rears their head, and Klaus starts receiving instructions through the mail. If he wants to save the world, he’ll have to reunite the Umbrella Academy… and just hope that the anonymous tipper feeding him information is friend, not foe.
8. rusty bullets
(Zombie apocalypse/no power AU) Viktor Hargreeves was attending his first semester of college when the world fell apart. Now the undead roam the streets, and Viktor isn’t quite sure how he’s still alive. One thing is certain, though; he needs to make it back to his hometown, back to his girlfriend Sissy. To do that, he’ll need to join forces with a ragtag band of survivors and battle his way across the apocalypse. The odds are not in his favor, so it’s a good thing Viktor has never been one to give up.
9. a trick of the fates
(Self-indulgent OC fic. They aren't a couple tho, just pals against the end of the world.) When Five Hargreeves escapes the apocalypse after six long years of solitude, he’s ecstatic. Now he has plenty of time to stop the apocalypse before it’s even begun. Only problem? He lands in Larkspur, Colorado, hundreds of miles away from home. And that’s not all… his powers don’t seem to be working, either.
Quincy Gray has never understood her powers, nor does she want to. Unfortunately, they’re becoming harder and harder to control. A miracle arrives in the form of a bedraggled boy who falls out of the sky and into her backyard. They quickly strike up a deal; Quincy gets him home to New York City, and Five teaches her how to use her powers along the way.
Nothing could go wrong, right?

Opinion not requested about ships with Spider 😃
How long do they stay togheter?
Spiri:
Forever, if they don't die togheter the other dies in the next year or so, they just can't live without the other so Eywa takes the other away.
Locorro:
For 10 years maybe? It doesn't end well. Lo’ak finds something in Tsireya that Spider doesn't have, so sadly Spider brokes up with Lo’ak, and Lo’ak is not happy about it.
They stop talking to eachother, and for another 20 years they don't speak to eachother, then they see eachother again, both have new families.
They come to peace and return friends, but in their mind there is always the "What if" of their love story
Nocorro
So, if we follow the canon
Maybe 3 years, after Spider lose Neteyam, he is so heartbroke and traumatised by the circumstances that he decides to not mate or marry with someone ever.
If we don't follow the canon, they are pretty much like spiri
Can't and won't live without the other, yes they had some breakups but in time a week they were togheter again.
Rocorro
50 years,
Spider is growing into old, he knows he will die before his mate so one day he just dissapers.
Not even their kids know where he goes, Rotxo is so heartbroken that he doesn't want to hear stories and decides to close in on yourself, being there only for his kids and grandkids.
He grows to be a grumpy old man, them after 5 years without Spider, news arrives.
Spider died of old age, and his body was returned to his kids.
They bury him as tradional trafionts of metkayina people.
When almost a year later Rotxo finally goes to him and ask him why.
Spider tells him, and Rotxo is so heartbroken
His mate decided to leave him so his dead wouldn't have been deep for him.
He returned his sunshine self, and died 30 years later.
Aonung + Spider
Forever them too,
Spider changed Aonung for the good, unfortunately he was banned from the metkayina clan.
His parents couldn't even look at him, disgusted that he was now mated with a human, still Aounung followed Spider into the Omatikaya clan.
He was blind by his love for him, and Spider made sure he will not regret being blind.
I like to think that they died togheter, embraced to eachother.
Eywa just wanted them to not suffer a single day without the other.
Tsireya + Spider
6 months, Spider was so in love and so was Tsireya, since their eyes met they knew.
But Spider knew that Lo'ak loved Tsireya too much, he knew Tsireya was the one and only one for him and he knew Tsireya proved the same.
She loved him, but there was something in Lo'ak, the way she looked at him even after he said the most dumb thing ever.
So he secretly broke up with her, one day he was there, with her holding hands and kissing and the other he was in the forest far away from the sea.
They never saw eachother again.
Locorro + Tsireya
They last forever, Spider doesn't have to go away because both Tsireya and Lo'ak are already togheter.
They just want him too in the relationship.
And who is Spider to say no?
So is like this, Spider is basically the stay home dad, meanwhile his other two partners are out.
They are an happy couple
Spiri + rocorro
They too stay togheter forever, although Spider is still scared about the fact that Rotxo heart will be broken when he will die.
So he asks Kiri what they should do, and Kiri uses her jesus Pandora powers and makes him live 50+ years more.
That it bye
Ooh, very interesting! First of all, for me when we're talking about a ship I have a hard time not imagining the relationship lasting until the end of time forever in that universe it's taking place in, I can't handle if they break up. So you've hurt me a little bit with this. Endgame always for me. Like, Lo'ak and Tsireya both not being satisfied with just Spider? Well fuck off that's the saddest thing I've ever heard.

An Essay about Nils Lutefisk From Psychonauts, and How Jokes and Stereotypes Can Hide Horror.
Tumblr media
@how-good-day
Well. Here's the essay that I've been thinking about in my brain, ever since I've thought about Nils Lutefisk in a deeper way.
(TW: Yes, this post is rated mature, and I plan to talk about violence and sexual themes with a character who is a minor. This is something that has been in my brain that I don't think a lot people realize about the character and his implications and bothers me.)
(Sources I will be using - Psychonauts, and myself who has been a summer Camp Counselor for 7 years.)
I will be jumping straight into my thesis so anyone who feels uncomfortable with ANY of the above, skip to the next post.
I fully believe that Nils Lutefisk is a caricature of a kid who has gone through SA.
Number 1. Why do I use the word "caricature?" Well, DoubleFine made a lot of the kids based on stereotypes for kids they didn't have backstories for. J.T.'s a cowboy, Chops is Canadian, Quentin is a chill guy who everyone likes, Franke is a mean girl's inexperienced BFF. Characters not given full backstories are caricatures of kids who you probably knew when you're growing up, some with different flavors. Nils Lutefisk is supposed to be a caricature of a kid who believes they are more mature for their age cause they know about sex. ... The thing is: Kids usually DON'T know about sex, or have sexual urges UNLESS there is something more going on.
Number 2. Do you think Nils is a caricature of a SPECIFIC kid that people on the DoubleFine team knew? No, absolutely not. I think they took the ideas of kids that they knew and were maybe even friends with. Kids they thought were a little weird or neat. But that doesn't mean campers match up with specific kids they knew. Still, the fact that Nils acts the way he does and the fact that these are signs, leads me to believe that the kid, especially if someone were to write fanfiction focusing on him, has probably gone through way worse than most of the fandom realizes.
Number 3. Why do you think this is the case? Just using in-game scenes, we have him trying to peep on the girls twice, him and Elka arguing about their "new relationships," him flirting with Chloe, his rebraining where he tries to find girls who want to makeout, and his resolution with Elka. Just from the interaction of him seeking the sight of the girls raises several questions for me as a camp counselor. I have dealt with kids of all ages who have had unfortunate circumstances, and this is certainly a big one. If kids are showing this type of interest, especially pre-puberty, we are told in training that these are likely signs of SA and we need to keep an eye on and ear out for if a kid like this talks about that. This is highly the case for Nils given the only info we have on his age is his campster which puts him at 9. This character, who is supposed to be 9, has way too much interest in this type of thing for his age.
Number 4. Well, Psychonauts said Nils was just influenced by media he saw! That may be the case for the in canon explanation for the character, but Psychonauts doing this really neglects what is actually going on. Kids can be exposed to these movies and can be influenced by them, but when it comes to actually wanting to see it physically instead of just on a screen leans more towards darker implications. Going back to my work of Camp Counseling, kids who barely know what adult type things are and who learn a little bit, tend to gossip about it. Nils doesn't. Nils specifically tries to keep other kids away from what he's doing cause he knows it's wrong. He is isolating himself, possibly because someone else influenced him to make that choice.
Number 5. Do you REALLY think DoubleFine thought that this kid would go through that?! No. I don't believe that DoubleFine wrote this character with that in mind. However, given my own experience with kids, all points seem to lead to my conclusion. I really feel uncomfortable, and yet sad around Nils Lutefisk. Every interaction that's supposed to be a "haha gotcha, he's so silly, liking girls so much," becomes something incredibly uncomfortable for me for someone who has seen kids suffer repercussions once they've understood what they went through.
Number 6. Why bring this up at all? I started writing this essay around the time where people went from hating Dion, to vehemently defending him. And at the same time I didn't see the same for Nils Lutefisk. Nils had been recontextualized, sure, but no one really went into the fact that there's a lot of dark themes in Psychonauts, and reforming a character who in context I think has less defense for his actions. It felt bad to me cause... Nils was kind of a character who the more I watched the more I felt for. To see him used as a simple gag, made me realize that not a lot of people know the signs of these actions until it is too late.
To reiterate my points, I believe that Nils Lutefisk's writing points to the caricature of a kid going through SA and I find it scary that I feel like I'm the only one who sees this because of my work and that no one in the fandom seems to acknowledge this, let alone the games using it for humor. I think it's something that should at some point, allow people to realize: "hey wait this is actually a really destructive behavior and it's NOT just because the kid watched R rated movies. There's something that leans towards worse going on." This writing leans towards things that are signs in the real world that people just don't see. Or worse, refuse to acknowledge for fear of repercussions.

"What if Perseus is Makarov's father??" I said, jokingly.
And so begins my quest of finding whether or not how logical this theory could be.
And well...
I don't think it's a joke anymore lmao.
It really is unsettling how truly similar they are.
In certain ways.
Before we begin, let's clarify something here.
Since AV de-aged reboot Makarov, this theory only make sense if you pair Perseus with the OG Makarov. Why? Because Perseus died of cancer in 1983.
Since we have yet to know how old is the new Makarov, I'm gonna assumed he's around Price's age. At least I hope so. Idk how I'm gonna feel if they decides to make him late 20s. He's gotta be born either in 1985 or younger than that. At least that's what he looks like. So, there's no way Perseus could be his father.
Now, the OG Makarov though......
Let's go through this points by points.
He was born in 1970. October 4th, to be precise (at least according to Soap's journal). There's no indication or mentioned siblings in his record. Parents or whatsoever. I have my own personal HC on this but that's another essay.
Perseus himself doesn't have any canon date of birth and place of birth. Let's assume he was born in, maybe, around the year of 1918. I was gonna go ahead and make him the same age as Adler (1937). But according to this modelling mugshot pose he pulls photo,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If he looks this scrumptious old during 1960, then he's gotta be at least 42 years old. That would make him 52 when baby Mak was born in 1970.
"Isn't he a little old to be a dad at that age?" Uhhh not really. Especially given his situation, my dude was constantly on the move busy doing spy shit all over the world. He was young, patriotic. So, perhaps domestic life wasn't exactly on his mind at the time being or just haven't found the one yet. My guess is, he found someone in 1968/1969 yada yada fall in love yada yada get married yada yada and boom baby Mak was born in 1970. Whether they settled for one kid or more, that's up to your interpretation.
Now, in terms of looks, I don't think they're exactly copy paste. We know that Mak has Heterochromia. Perseus had blue eyes and Makarov's mama must've had green eyes.
If we want to compare their pictures, let's start with in-game model.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ehhh I'd say they score about 75-80% in terms of appearance alikeness. Big ass forehead? Check ✅️
Now, if you put Perseus real life model and Makarov MW3 model..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah okay score about 95%. Especially the eyebrow scrunch thing.
Perseus was 6 ft'2. Our boi on the other hand was 5 ft'11. My dude did not inherit the tall genes unfortunately.
Perseus and Makarov both had comradeship with Imran Zakhaev.
Zakhaev looked up to Perseus, claiming him to be "a mentor, having played a part in radicalizing his attitude towards the West."
As for Makarov, we know how much he looked up to Zakhaev. He did took him in during the lowest point of his life and gave him a purpose. Something he lost when he was forced to discharge from the military. Zakhaev's protégé. Zakhaev's executioner.
However, Perseus and Mak share one common trait; their methods were frowned upon by Zakhaev.
"Imran, however, soon realized the danger of Perseus's ideas. Believing Perseus's actions would turn the world against the Soviet Union, he prevented Perseus from taking control of a facility in Verdansk, where a chemical agent called NOVA-4 was produced."
"While Zakhaev was grateful to Makarov for saving his life on the day of his assassination attempt, he also kept him in check, possibly due to the fear of Makarov's extreme methods and ambitions, which later proved correct."
It boggles my mind that Zakhaev have the patience to continously kept Makarov's in check for 15 years of their partnership. He's aware of how terrifyingly brutal he is and even though it clearly bothered him, he still kept him around.
This is one of the key points that makes me wonder if Makarov is not just a nobody that he picked off the underworld. Maybe him being Perseus's son is what drives Zakhaev to mentor him and stick with it till the end. Well, at least as long as he could control him. I had no doubt that if Makarov push Zakhaev too far and shows signs of being too out of control, he'll be dead way before Price could wrung his neck.
Speaking of methods,
"Perseus' true plan was to detonate all the American nukes across Europe and have the United States take the fall. Perseus wanted to rebuild Russia from the ashes."
"Makarov's scheme was to initiate the global conflict of World War III, and that was accomplished by massacring a Russian airport and making it look like the US was involved. Later on, he would attempt to nuke all of Europe for Russia to fully invade and rebuild from the ashes."
See the resemblance?
Their speech pattern really parallel each other;
Perseus: Today, we reshape the world.
Makarov: Today, we show the world our true strength.
Perseus: Our motherland is lead by cowards and weaklings.
Makarov: Now our country is run by squabbling lackeys and politicians who can hardly be called patriots.
Perseus: The superpowers will fall, victims of their own greed and corruption.
Makarov: The corrupt talk; while our brothers and sons spill their own blood.
Perseus: We will rebuild Greater Russia from the ashes.
Makarov: Russia will take all of Europe, even if it must stand upon a pile of ashes.
Perseus: They sleep soundly at night, knowing they put on a good parade - but they lack the will to do what must be done.
Makarov: Our enemies believe that they alone dictate the course of history, but all it takes is the will of a single man.
Perseus: The others, however, are still out there. I will finish them off if I have to.
Makarov: I will not rest until I have killed or captured the men who killed Imran Zakhaev.
Perseus: (to Bell) You remember my face don't you?
Makarov: (to Vorshevsky) You know who I am?
Perseus: But have no doubt. These are but temporary losses. We are just getting started, my friend.
Makarov: The road to our future begins here, my friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So in conclusion, it seems that the possibility of them being father and son is really plausible so far.

Ahhhh I fell completely behind on writing these! Thoughts on Chapters 4 for now, chapters 5-8 to come later.
Tumblr media
Ch. 4
—>So Chapter 4 brings us to the end of volume 1, and I'm just left wondering - how many volumes is this going to be? As of this post, we just recently got chapter 8, so surely that means volume 2 will be published soon, right?
-->I?? Didn't??? Talk about Tadase and Niya??? That's a crime against humanity. Forgive me for I have sinned.
Tumblr media
What a clever ploy here by our resident streamer. Like, are we sure he isn't from the future, where streaming is more commonplace (if you're like me, and refuse to believe that this arc isn't still taking place in 2008?)? Because kids back then weren't think of likes and view counts and all that. I could certainly believe a kid in this day and age would care about that, unfortunately.
Anyway, I really like how much of a wildcard Niya is here. Like, it's pretty obvious he's trying to manipulate Tadase, right? But to what end? What is his end goal here?? Is he working for the director or does he have his own motives??
Seeing him simply as a copycat to Ikuto kind of misses the point - like yes, on the surface, he has quite a bit in common with him. But based on how he operates, he makes for an interesting contrast with Nikaidou from the first arc. I'll hold off on a more in depth comparison to other characters for now though - I just want to see what he does next and find out what his actual endgame goal is.
Tumblr media
--> Character Transformations from the dorm leaders wasn't entirely surprising to me. However, I am curious about the naming conventions - is it solely to reference their dorm names, or is there some sort of connection to Amu's own transformations? We know the Arc-Eggs are manufactured in some way, so is it possible that they were made to be modeled after other chara bearers?
Sure, it could simply another reference to card suites... but it's interesting since we don't normally see overlap with names like this.
Tumblr media
--> Yesss!!! The conflict I've been waiting for!!!
Tumblr media
--> I want to apologize to Tadase. I never appreciated him back in the OG days. Not that I hated him per se, but he just didn't stick out to me as much as the other characters. But you know what? His growth and determination is such a good parallel with Amu's.
Tumblr media
--> I love Kinomi. I think he's my second favorite character introduced in this arc (after Erito ofc). Like he just has so much potential for interesting interactions, and this moment here is so funny. Please, please, please, can we get an anime reboot announced so we can see this become the cinematic masterpiece it's meant to be?
Tumblr media
--> I'm not entirely buying that Niya likes Amu. Him saying this feels calculated for the same reason him collaborating with Tadase does. He's definitely stirring the pot one way or another though.
Tumblr media
--> And this is what makes the Arc-Eggs so interesting. Guardian Characters are supposed to represent what someone wants to become, in terms of personality or aspirations. Amu's characters represent both traits (honesty, kindness, etc) she wants to express, and skills (athletics, art, cooking, etc) she wants to have. Kiseki is a symbol of Tadase's desire for power to protect others, while Yoru was born of Ikuto's dream to be free and live his life on his own terms.
So what does Rosetta actually represent? What does Erito really want for herself? Considering she didn't get the glossy eye look other X-Egg victims get, does this mean Rosetta has nothing to do with Erito's inner self?
Tumblr media
--> Okay so... not gonna lie, I'm pretty lukewarm on this. Like, yes, transformation upgrades are pretty standard, but like... I kind of wanted something a little different? Like, I love the Arcana Academy uniforms because they still fit the characters while also reflecting their growth and maturity. And I was kind of hoping these character transformations would do the same?
I don't really know what would work here though. A different silhouette maybe, like with long sleeves? Less ribbons? Maybe it'll look better when it's colored?? IDK, it's been a few months since this chapter dropped and I'm still not entirely sure on this.
Tumblr media
--> !!! So her name was Annabelle the whole time, and interestingly it was changed to Rosetta... almost as if trying to force a connection with Erito. And look how many more flowers she has on her after the X is lifted!
Was she taken from another child's heart?? Was she artificially created, and then modified for Erito's sake?? What's the backstory here???
Tumblr media
--> I didn't even realize the lock changed to a heart shape at first, since I was so transfixed on the wings. I really like that detail for Amu, as if she's soaring to new heights.
Tumblr media
--> Okay, so of course the big reveal of the chapter is that Ikuto is returning and headed to Arcana Academy, and the big question is why? But also... since the Humpty Lock changed, did the Dumpty Key pick up on that? Or did it change too? OR, will it change once he gets close to one of the other artifacts? Were these artifacts made by the same person who made the key and lock?
Overall thoughts for volume 1: I'm not going to lie, I was nervous picking up this sequel, since I wasn't really sure what else Peach-Pit could really do with these characters or this world. Others would (fairly) disagree with me, but I felt like Encore wrapped up enough of the narrative to feel like a satis
But the Arc-Eggs and their guardian characters pose some pretty interesting implications to what we've come to expect.
Anyway, time for a new poll!

I made Blueberry Ice Cream a new ref
I’m noticing that I tend to give BBIC basically the same pose each time. I need to stop that
Anyways so the description here is basically just me trying to describe him because someone asked me to, and I thought this info paired better with the new ref, so I copy/pasted it here
What I have is that he’s a magic blacksmith, who makes weapons and then enchants them with his magical know how. He’s around his mid 20s, so still pretty young and a bit naïve, and well as headstrong and reckless. He has a habit of not thinking things through, just going with his gut and what he thinks is the right decision, even when sometimes it’s really not, and he tends to underestimate potential consequences (and in other versions of him, these are what cause his ultimate downfall). He means well, it’s just that he doesn’t always think
In this new continuity where he exists in present day, he comes from a line of magic users, with one of his ancestors being the Cookie that founded the Blueberry Yogurt Academy. He became interested in being a blacksmith because he learned one of his other ancestors (the one right before the founder in fact), created a legendary magic sword, that being the Strawberry Jam Sword, but doesn’t really understand its malicious nature (as it seems this isn’t common knowledge) and saw this ancestor purely as someone to look up to, and so he aspired to be just like him, hoping to one day make something as great as he did. Unfortunately he doesn’t know the actual truth of the things that happened
And meanwhile there’s his son, Blueberry Yogurt. In my previous version of BBIC’s story, his son was that aforementioned founder, but now they just happen to share a name. As I’ve stated previously, Blueberry Ice Cream is around his mid 20s or so, and his son is around 4-5, so BBIC’s a relatively young dad; not the youngest, he wasn’t a teen parent or anything, but still. Blueberry Ice Cream’s handling things I’d say relatively well. He loves his son and tries to always be supportive of him, wanting him to live the best he can. I mean it’s not like these two are the most well off, since this is a single income household and BBIC’s still working mostly small time, but they’re doing fine. Having Blueberry Yogurt is something that generally grounds Blueberry Ice Cream, as he can’t just go and chase wild ideas, he has to think about his kid, so it helps him from being too impulsive, not that he isn’t still
I should probably talk about Blueberry Yogurt too. So as stated above, he’s a young boy, around 4-5, he’s very timid and also a bit of a crybaby, very much the opposite of his father. He generally prefers being around adults rather than kids his age, and seems to be more relaxed around them. But he has his strengths, being very perceptive and can sometimes have a better understanding of things than his dad (he’s also got some idea that the story his dad likes so much has more going on than he thinks). He’s interested in solely magic instead of blacksmithing, getting his hands on whatever magic books he can find to learn. Blueberry Ice Cream often buys him whatever magic books he can find since he knows it makes his son happy. He’d also like for his son to maybe toughen up a little, since he always gets scared by other kids, but he more considers it something for later, since he’s still little, maybe it’ll happen on its own
I’m not sure I have much else to say. Though to be honest, I’m coming back and writing the rest of this a couple days after I started, so I may have forgotten things. If I have, I’ll go and write them in here
Edit: I remembered some other stuff
So I’m not entirely sure where they’re living. Originally it was somewhere close to the Dark Cacao Kingdom, since BBIC would use the nearby dragons’ scales in his weapons, but now he’s in modern day and we’re not sure if the twin dragons are still around, I’m not sure where to put him. I suppose he could be living in Dragon City, though he certainly doesn’t fit in color wise
Another thing that relates to his character, I’m not entirely sure how to describe this, but he’s smart and dumb at the same time. Like he can be intelligent, and he’s very knowledgeable on magical things (since his family line’s all about magic), as well as probably weapons among other things, but he can be unaware and just generally and idiot at times. Again I don’t really know how to describe it. I don’t think “high intelligence, low wisdom” really applies to him
But yeah, that’s Blueberry Ice Cream

Happy Coradrag AU - Doomed Love Anyone? (Part 4)
Happy Coradrag AU Masterlist
Summary:
Rosinante and Dragon falling in love.
This gonna be real happy and then real sad. Also very long, so it had to be split into three four parts.
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4
Warning: Awkward flirting + cheesy pickup-lines. Dragon and Rosinante are dorks. Implied NSFW. ANGST - Mention of torture, murder, beheading, and Doflamingo.
Context:
Couldn't find a name for it, so we are calling Sengoku's goat Merriweather (like the Merry).
First part of this for a rough timeline guide.
Happy Coradrag AU - Meeting Rosinante
Garp adopted Kuzan and Dadan. DDK Childhood // DDK Childhood 2
Dragon - 35 to 36 (Birthdate: October 5)
Rosinante - 20 (Birthdate: July 15)
Ace - 2 (Birthdate: January 1)
Dadan - 35 to 36 (Birthdate: August 30)
Kuzan - 30 to 31(Birthdate: September 21)
Smoker - 18 (Birthdate: March 14)
Bellemere - 20 to 21 (Birthdate: December 3)
Imagine the One Piece Narrator when you see this: {Words}
Italics = Thoughts
The Newspaper/Notes
Note: This chapter is longer than the other three parts because I refuse to make a part five. This chapter of the series really got away from me, I wasn't expecting to make it into 4 parts. 😂
I try and make chapters/parts no longer than about ten pages (google docs) because I find it easier to read things that way. No hate to long chapters/one-shots that are like 22,000 words long, I love you too. It's just so I know where I left off when the screen scrolls up randomly and I lose my spot.
This chapter (all 4 parts) is 44 pages long on google docs and has 58091 words.
I'm quite proud of myself even if I also think it's not that great in some parts. Thank you to everyone who is enjoying this series so far.
-
The Following Week - Mid August - Marineford
Dragon and Rosinante had decided to keep their relationship a secret for the meantime. The both of them agreed that it would be a disaster if either of their fathers found out about them right now. Sengoku for being overprotective of his only child despite Rosinante being a literal spy and Garp for being over involved in his children’s lives despite them being, well, his children.
He did raise them in the jungle after all. You’d think he’d know by now that they can take care of themselves.
Anyways, things for Rosinante and Dragon were going well. They were far less awkward around each other. They even already went out on their second date.
They had gone back to the Lose Your Berrie Pub on the following Sunday afternoon after their Friday date, although this was mostly to apologise for the bathroom incident. The owner took it well enough and let them off with a warning.
This time around they didn’t get black out drunk and instead just talked. Rosinante had even brought his camera along to capture the moment. The photo was of them sitting at the bar and looking upwards at the camera. With Rosinante leaning his head on Dragon’s.
They parted ways afterwards, Rosinante giving Dragon a kiss on the cheek before heading home and Dragon went back to his apartment to do paperwork before Ace got back that night.
Neither Garp or Kuzan noticed anything that might be off about Dragon; despite the usually grumpy man looking well rested and happier than normal. They both thought that he was just excited to see Ace again.
Kuzan might have noticed that his brother looked happier than usual if he wasn’t so utterly exhausted. Don’t get him wrong, he loves his nephew, but he didn’t envy Dragon in the slightest. The kid was a chaos monster sometimes.
And said chaos monster was the one to notice.
The toddler was quite perceptive for his age. Dragon assumed that it was something to do with Rouge holding him in for almost two years.
Ace was also very honest.
Which was very unfortunate sometimes.
“Daddy?” Ace asked, tugging on his shirt while he was reading the newspaper.
“Yes Ace?” Dragon replied, taking a sip of his coffee.
“Do you love Rosi?” Ace asked, rocking back and forth in front of him.
Dragon choked and quickly spit his coffee back into the mug.
“Are you okay?!” Aces yelled, trying to climb onto his lap.
“I-I’m good.” Dragon wheezed, while pulling Ace into his lap, “Sorry about that Ace, what was your question?”
“Do you love Rosi?” Ace asked again.
“I-Well… Um… I do like him a lot.” Dragon told him awkwardly, “Why do you ask?”
“Your face gets all red when he’s here.” Ace explained, “You look like Uncle Kuzan when he sees ladies with big chests like gramps.”
Dragon didn’t know whether to laugh or cry in response.
He decided to just put his head in his hand, sigh, and move on.
“I suppose I do get all red don’t I?” Dragon wondered, “Do I look like a tomato?”
“Yes.” Ace laughed, “A big one!”
“Well thank you.” Dragon huffed, laughing, before he took on a more serious tone, “Can you do something for me Ace?”
“What?” Ace asked, confused.
“Can you keep me liking Rosi a secret for now?” Dragon asked.
“Why?” Ace asked, even more confused.
Dragon took a moment to try to figure out how to word something so complicated.
“Do you remember when you told gramps that you liked pirates?” Dragon started cautiously, “And then he went all… feral?”
“Like a dog? I remember.” Ace told him, “It was kind of scary, but funny too.”
“Yes it was.” Dragon agreed, “But he’ll do that again if he finds out about Rosi.”
“Why? Does he not like him?” Ace wondered.
“No, he does. He’s just really… overprotective sometimes.” Dragon explained.
Overprotective is an understatement, Dragon thought, But it’s the only child appropriate answer I have.
“Oh… Okay I won’t tell.” Ace said.
“You won’t?” Dragon was surprised at how easy it was.
“No, gramps is scary when he’s feral.” Ace stated, hopping down to the floor before turning around and asking, “Want to colour?”
“Sure.” Dragon replied.
-
Saturday - Late August - Marineford
It was supposed to be Dragon’s day off, but some idiot screwed up and paperwork was literally dropped on his doorstep. The ensign that delivered it thought Dragon was scary and decided to just run after knocking.
Dragon could still see him peeking around the corner though, he just pretended not to notice and took the paper inside.
Thankfully, Rosinante was already going to come over, so Ace was preoccupied and wasn’t too disappointed. Dragon just made up for it by letting him have two scoops of ice cream for dessert instead o
It was late now. Rosinante had decided to stay for dinner since Sengoku was away for business. Dragon had just put Ace to bed after he collapsed from his sugar rush and was finishing some leftover paperwork while Rosinante put away the dishes.
Rosinante put the last dishes away when he saw a newspaper that was left on the counter.
“Hey, is this paper from today?” Rosinante asked, walking into the main room.
“Oh, yeah.” Dragon said, looking up, “Completely forgot about it, haven’t gotten a chance to read it yet.”
“Do you mind if I read it then?” Rosinante asked.
“Go right ahead.” Dragon replied, then in a teasing voice said, “Just don’t spoil the ending for me.”
“I’ll try to contain myself.” Rosinante laughed while unfolding the paper.
He looked down and froze when he read the headline.
This can’t be, Rosinante thought, I thought he was dealt with.
Dragon heard a rustling noise and looked up to see that Rosinante was shaking.
“Rosi? Are you okay?” Dragon asked worriedly, the blonde looked like he saw a ghost.
Dragon got up and gently took the newspaper from him.
The headline was: A demon has taken over Spider Miles!
The newspaper went on to say: A young upstart from the North Blue has been making big waves! His name is Donquixote Doflamingo, captain of the Donquixote Pirates. He is ruthless, cunning, and determined to take control. Just recently he has taken over an island called Spider Miles. We assume that he will be using it as his home base.
Will he be the next Pirate King? He sure thinks so. See more on page 3.
There was a picture of a blonde man in a pink feathered coat and oddly shaped sunglasses. The angle made it seem that he was looming over the camera as the picture was taken. His smile or smirk rather made Dragon very uncomfortable in a way he couldn’t quite explain.
“I... I need to go.” Rosinante said quietly, rushing out the front door before Dragon could stop him.
Dragon was left standing in his living room confused.
-
Rosinante rushed back to his place to call his dad.
He felt bad about leaving Dragon without telling him why, but he couldn’t help it.
Panic and fear had already set in.
His heart was beating so fast that it was the only thing he could hear and he felt his chest tightening. Rosinante was sure he was on the verge of a panic attack.
He got home and was fumbling to get his keys out, swearing like the sailor he was. When he finally got the right key in the lock, he almost tore the door off its hinges.
Rosinante quickly locked it and rushed over to his den-den-mushi, dialing his dad’s number.
“Please pick up. Please pick up.” Rosinante begged while trying not to cry, “Please pick up!”
Then he heard a click.
“Rosinante? What’s wrong?” Sengoku asked worriedly, they had already had their scheduled call yesterday, so something must be wrong for Rosinante to call him so late.
“Did… Did you read the newspaper?” Rosinante sniffled, trying to breathe.
“Oh… Yes, I did.” Sengoku said calmly, “I’m sorry Rosi, I hoped you wouldn’t see it until I got back. You never read the paper and the one time you do… I’m so sorry.”
“I thought he was dead.” Rosinante choked out, still trying to hold back his tears, “How did he survive?”
“Apparently that’s what this meeting was about.” Sengoku told him, sighing as he did.
“What?!” Rosinante asked, shocked.
“When he came to them with… his offering. They turned him away, expecting him to suffer a slow and painful death.” Sengoku explained, “But then he became a pirate and now he’s black mailing them somehow. We are being ordered not to interfere or get involved with him and his actions.”
“So you can’t arrest him?” Rosinante asked in despair.
“No, I can’t. I’m sorry.” Sengoku replied, “I don’t even know how or what he is using to blackmail them with.”
“He’s the first born.” Rosinante whispered.
“What? What does that have to do with anything?” Sengoku asked, confused.
“There are alot of secrets in Mary Geoise and they are told to the first born of every family.” Rosinante explained, “I remember asking Doffy about what he did on those trips, he always bragged and said he couldn’t tell me.”
“So that’s it. I wonder what's so important that they’d agree to his terms.” Sengoku pondered.
“Me too.” Rosinante said.
The two were quiet for a moment, both thinking about what could be hidden away in Mary Geoise. It had to be something life changing for the Celestial Dragons to react to Doflamingo in such a way.
“Are you okay Rosi?” Sengoku asked after a moment, “Are you following those breathing exercises?”
“Yeah, I’m good.” Rosinante replied, “Guess I just needed a good cry and talk.”
“You sure?” Sengoku said, “I can stay up longer.”
“No you can’t.” Rosinante said, “It's already past your bedtime.”
“Hey! I’m not that old!” Sengoku grumbled.
“Yes you are.” Rosinante laughed, “Remember New Years? You fell asleep on the coach before nine!”
“You’re never going to let that go are you?” Sengoku sighed.
“No, never.” Rosinante teased.
They both laughed at that
“When then goodnight Rosi.” Sengoku said, sighing, “I love you son. And don’t worry too much about your brother, we’ll be keeping tabs on him in the meantime.”
“Thanks dad.” Rosinante said, “I love you too.”
He then hung up and just sat on the floor for a bit.
He didn’t even know when he started sitting on the floor.
Rosinante groaned and got up, his butt hurting from sitting on the wooden floor of his apartment.
He locked the door and just rested his head on it for a moment. The cold wood felt good on his feverish skin. He didn’t even realise he was sweating buckets.
His mind drifted, trying to over everything that just happened in the past thirty or so minutes.
Oh god Dragon, Rosinante thought suddenly, He must be so worried!
He rushed back over to the den-den-mushi and dialed Dragon.
Dragon picked up almost immediately.
“Rosi! Are you okay?!” Dragon exclaimed.
“Yeah, I’m good.” Rosinante tried to reassure him, “Just needed to talk with my dad.”
“What happened?” Dragon asked.
He didn’t want to lie to Dragon, so he just didn’t tell him the whole truth.
“Just saw something in the paper that reminded me of bad childhood memories.” Rosinante explained.
“Oh, I’m sorry Rosi.” Dragon softly said, “How are you doing?”
“Tired.” Rosinante replied.
“Is there anything I can do to help?” Dragon offered.
“No, I just wanted to apologise for running.” Rosinante explained.
“Oh you don’t have to apologise for that Rosi.” Dragon told him, “It’s okay, I understand. I was just worried about you.”
“Thanks Dragon.” Rosinate said, “I’m gonna go to bed.”
“All right, take care of yourself.” Dragon told him.
“I will.” Rosinante replied.
He hung up and fed his den-den-mushi some lettuce.
Then he kicked off his shoes, breaking something in the process, and literally fell into bed.
He was snoring in a matter of seconds.
-
Early September - Marineford
They didn’t talk about what happened.
Until one rainy night in September.
The two of them were laying in bed together. Dragon was on his back with Rosinante laying on top of him. Dragon was playing with Rosinante’s hair while the blonde was listening to his heart beat. They peacefully laid in silence until Rosinante spoke up.
“Dragon?” Rosinante whispered.
“Yes Rosi?” Dragon asked, he looked down to see the blonde playing with his chest hair.
“Remember how you asked about my life before Sengoku?” Rosinante questioned him cautiously.
“Yes? What about it?” Dragon replied, starting to get a little worried about Rosinante’s tone.
“I want to tell you about it.” Rosinante said softly.
“You don’t have to.” Dragon tried to reassure him, “I don’t need to-”
“No!” Rosinante shouted while sitting up, before calming down at the sight of the shocked look on Dragon’s face, “I’m sorry, but I need to tell you.”
“Okay.” Dragon quietly said before sitting up as well, “Take as much time as you need to.”
Rosinante sat up against the headboard beside him. He sat with his knees touching his chest and his arms wrapped around his legs with his head on top. After a moment, Rosinante mustered up the courage to continue.
“I… I wasn’t born here.” Rosinante started, “I… I was born up there, in Mary Geoise.”
“What?!” Dragon asked shocked, “How’d the hell did you end up down here?”
Dragon mentally kicked himself when he saw Rosinante wince and curl into himself a little more before the blonde continued his story.
“My father didn’t want to live up there anymore. He wanted us to live like everyone else. He didn’t want to own slaves or hurt people.” Rosinante told him, “So he moved us to a little town in the North Blue, but he was very naive.”
Dragon tried to figure out where this was going and as he would come to learn; it was far more horrible than anything he was imagining.
“I have an older brother. He wasn’t like dad or mom, he was like the other Celestial Dragons. Violent, cruel, and demanding that the town’s people obey him or kneel in his presence. When they didn’t, he threatened to make them slaves.” Rosinante explained, “That’s how the town’s people found out about where we came from.”
Rosinante jumped a little when he felt Dragon wiping away his tears. He didn’t even know he was crying. Dragon just pulled the blonde into his lap and held him close. Rosinante tucked his head into Dragon’s neck and continued.
“I was only six at the time, so while I noticed the tension when we went into town, I didn’t really understand anything. Our parents tried to tell my brother that what he was saying wasn’t right, but he didn’t apologise or change.” Rosinante told him, “One night, a mob came to the house and burnt it down. We luckily got out in time, but we had to start living in the junkyard.”
Dragon started to recall a story his dad had told him years ago. Of a family that was hunted down in the North Blue.
Rosinante let out a deep shuddering breath and Dragon softly patted him on the back to sooth him.
“It’s okay.” Dragon whispered into Rosinante’s hair, “You don’t have to continue. I understand.”
“No.” Rosinante choked out, “I need to, for myself.”
“Okay.” Dragon told him soothingly, “Take your time.”
Rosinante took a moment to compose himself before speaking again.
“My dad tried to get us back to Mary Geoise, but they denied us. So we built a little shack for ourselves. Our parents found food when they could and made sure that we ate the stuff that wasn’t spoiled or wasn’t too moldy.” Rosinante quietly said, “A year later, mom got really sick and passed away in her sleep shortly after. My brother blamed our dad for everything. I think my dad did too.”
Rosinante took another breath and kept going before he lost his courage.
“A year later, the town’s people finally found us. They strung us up on a building and started shooting arrows at us. They told us about everything that the Celestial Dragons did to them, about everyone that suffered or was taken as slaves.” Rosinante told him, “One of them shot my brother in the eye and that made his Conqueror's Haki wake up. All the people attacking us collapsed and we managed to cut ourselves down.”
Dragon could understand why the villagers would take out their anger on Rosinante’s father, even if he did recognize that the Celestial Dragon’s mistreatment of others was wrong and decided to change. But the children? Dragon knows grief can make you do crazy things. Especially when you have been subjected to such horrendous treatment your entire life. He didn’t tell Rosinante any of this though, it wouldn’t help, and he probably already knew this anyway.
Dragon motioned for Rosinante to continue.
“That wasn’t even the worst part though.” Rosinante sniffled, “A little later, my brother came across a man that gave him a gun and a devil fruit. He came back and shot our father in the back of the head while he was holding me.”
Dragon’s breath caught in his throat, he was horrified at what Rosinante was telling him. He knew that it was going to be bad based on what Garp vaguely told him years ago and with how Rosinante was acting, but he didn’t think it would lead to patricide.
“Then… then he cut off his head.” Rosinante choked out, Dragon just pulled him impossibly closer, “He took it back to Mary Geoise, hoping to be let back in. He wanted me to come with him, but I refused because I was scared of him. Sengoku found me crying in the junkyard and I didn’t hear anything about my brother until recently.”
Wait, what?! Dragon tried to remember anything that might have happened recently that could connect to Rosinante’s brother. North Blue - psychopath - blind? - terrible personality and values… no… it can’t be!
“Your brother is Doflamingo?!” Dragon yelled, Oh that’s why he got so upset about that newspaper article.
Thinking Dragon was angry at him, Rosinante jerked away and curled into himself.
“I’m sorry.” Rosinante said while sobbing, “I didn’t mean to lead you on but-”
“Lead me on?” Dragon asked confused before softening upon realisation, “Oh Rosi, I’m not mad.”
“You aren’t?” Rosinante choked out between sobs, “But you hate Celestial Dragons!”
“Yes I do.” Dragon said calmly, “I hate their beliefs and their way of life.”
Before Rosinante could pull away further, Dragon grabbed a hold of his shoulders and made him make eye contact.
“But I adore you.” Dragon told him, “You are proof that a person’s birth place or station does not define them and I hope there are more people like your father in Mary Geoise.”
Dragon once again pulled Rosinante into his lap and held him close.
“Perhaps a younger generation that wants to break the cycle.” Dragon said into Rosinante’s hair, “Things wouldn’t heal instantly, and we probably won’t see a united world in our lifetime, but it would be a start in the right direction.”
“I want that, a better world.” Rosinante whispered into Dragon’s chest, “I wish my brother could change.”
“Me too.” Dragon agreed for Rosinante’s sake, “But his actions are not your own, so don’t feel responsible for him okay?”
“I’ll try.” Rosinante said, “It isn’t easy.”
“I know, nothing that is worth it ever is.” Dragon told him, “But I’ll be here to support you, okay?”
Rosinante just nodded his head and snuggled into him further.
They laid back down again and drifted off to sleep, both feeling a little lighter.
-
Mid September - Marineford
It was now the middle of September and Dragon was getting ready to leave for his annual trip back home.
Rosinante was over helping Dragon and Ace pack. The blonde had invited himself over so he could spend some time with them before they left.
They had already packed up Ace’s bag and were now in Dragon’s room. Ace was bouncing on the bed while Dragon and Rosinante folded clothes.
“Are you excited to see Auntie Dadan again Ace?” Dragon asked the excited toddler.
“Yeah! And I wanna go bear hunting with gramps!” Ace yelled, making bear noises as he did so.
“They have bears on Dawn Island?” Rosinante asked while folding one of Dragon’s shirts.
“Yes, they're the same size as the ones found on the Grandline.” Dragon explained, “There are also oversized tigers, alligators, snakes, and vultures.”
“Really? That sounds terrifying.” Rosinante said, imagining himself tripping and getting eaten by one.
“It’s alright when you know how to fight them.” Dragon told him, “Dad would give us metal pipes and we would go out hunting.”
“Metal pipes?!” Rosinante exclaimed, “Why don’t you just use guns or spears or swords?”
“Dad says it would be too easy and that we needed to be tough to survive.” Dragon explained, “He also says everything tastes better when you hunt for it with your bare hands.”
“So your dad is a caveman?” Rosinante asked jokingly.
“You’re only realising that now?” Dragon joked back.
Ace then decided to interrupt them by diving into the piles of clothes.
Thankfully, Dragon caught him before he could undo all of their work.
“Now just what do you think you’re doing firefly.” Dragon asked the giggling toddler.
“Flying!” Ace exclaimed while flapping his arms.
“Why do you want to fly?” Dragon asked.
“So I can see everything!” Ace replied, going on about what he would like to see if he could fly.
Rosinante had a fond look on his face as he watched the father and son talk.
Dragon sure did make a cute kid, Rosinante thought as he watched Ace babble, I wonder what ours might look like?
As soon as that thought finished, Rosinante felt his face grow extremely hot.
Why am I thinking about that? We only started seeing each other a month ago! Bad Rosi! You’ll scare him off!
Rosinante was broken out of his spiral by Dragon poking his temple. Ace had run off to do something else.
“You okay there Rosi?” Dragon asked him in concern, “You kind of spaced out for a bit.”
“Oh sorry.” Rosinante said, “Was just thinking.”
“What about?” Dragon asked, sitting down beside him on the bed.
“Just how much I’m gonna miss you guys.” Rosinante replied.
“Aw, I’m going to miss you too.” Dragon said, “But it will only be for a little over a month. We’ll be back before Halloween.”
“I know.” Rosinante pouted, “I guess I just got used to being around you all the time. It’s been… less lonely.”
“I know what you mean.” Dragon agreed, “I’m very thankful to have met you Rosinante.”
“Thanks, I think the same about you.” Rosinante said while scratching the back of his head, “To be honest, you’re one of the few who think that.”
“Nonsense.” Dragon told him, moving his head so Rosinante met his eyes, “Don’t sell yourself short, you are a wonderful person Rosi and an extraordinary spy. Just gotta believe in yourself more.”
“Thanks Dragon.” Rosinante said, hugging him.
They held each other close until they heard a crash from the living room.
“Oops, sorry!” They heard Ace yell.
“Ah, that little shit.” Dragon huffed laughing, “I hope he broke that hideous vase Borsalino got me.”
Dragon went to get up, but Rosinante stopped him.
“You pack your stuff.” Rosinante told him, “I’ll go clean it up.”
“You sure?” Dragon asked.
“Yeah, you stay here.” Rosinante told him, “I know you just told me to believe in myself more, but we both know that doesn’t automatically give me organisational skills.”
“Fine, just don’t hurt yourself with the mess.” Dragon jokes.
“I’ll try not to.” Rosinante laughed as he walked out the door.
Dragon waited a moment until he was sure Rosinante was out of hearing range, then he got up to close the door.
He then went over to his bedside drawer on the right.
Dragon moved it to the side so he could access the floorboards. He pulled the floorboards up to reveal the hidden storage unit he made to safely keep anything to do with the Revolutionary Army in.
There were tensions rising in Marineford. Only the highest stations knew about the Revolutionary Army. Everybody else thought that the attacks, robberies, and protests over the past couple of years were done randomly.
Which was true for most of them.
But the rest were organized by Dragon and his RA associates.
He made sure to space everything out and make it seem like they were mere coincidences. So that the marines wouldn’t find any evidence or connect anything back to him if they did.
Dragon was planning to leave the marines after New Years. That way Ace could spend one more birthday with family.
He felt bad for dragging his son into his mess, but he wasn’t about to instill abandonment issues into him either.
He had started this a year before Ace was born. He wasn't expecting to have a kid literally thrusted into his arms. He could’ve said no.
But he didn’t.
Now he was ripping his kid away from everything he knew.
Maybe I should have let dad give Ace to Dadan, Dragon lamented as he put the documents into a hidden compartment sewn in the inside bottom of his bag.
No I couldn’t, not when I almost cried holding him for the first time, Dragon thought as he packed his clothes.
Then he thought about Rosinante.
If I’m not instilling abandonment issues in Ace; I’m instilling them in Rosinante.
Maybe it was true that all dragons were selfish creatures.
-
Ace had indeed broken that awful vase Borsalino gave him and Rosinante had it cleaned up without hurting himself.
Dragon called it a win either way.
He set his bag down next to Ace’s at the front door.
“Well this is it.” Dragon sighed, pulling on his coat.
“See you in a month.” Rosinante said, tugging on his own coat.
“Bye, bye Rosi.” Ace said, a little muffled by his scarf.
Rosinante crouched down to hug Ace, “Bye, bye firefly. See you soon.”
The toddler then grabbed his bag and dragged it out the door while waving goodbye.
Dragon grabbed his bag and pulled Rosinante into a hug when he stood up. Holding him tight to his chest. He felt the blonde do the same.
“Come on dad!” Ace whined from outside, “We’re gonna be late!”
The two men pulled away from each other. Stepping outside so Dragon could lock the apartment door.
“Well I better get going before the boss starts biting me.” Dragon told him, “Stay safe Rosi, I’ll be back.”
“You too Dragon.” Rosinante laughed, “I’ll be waiting.”
They gave each other a smile and parted ways.
Rosinante to his own apartment and Dragon towards the docks.
{Little did either of them know, but they wouldn’t be meeting again soon. In fact, it would be almost a year before they see each other again. All thanks to a certain magma man. It seems Dragon wasn’t as careful as he thought.}

One of my notes for this chapter in my notebook was:
"Rosinante is my favourite, so he must be the one put into the angst meat grinder as is tradition for favourite characters." ~ March 16
I had just got done re-watching The Dead Poet's Society when I wrote that down so do with that what you will. 🤷‍♀️

Digimon (specifically the shows) and fnaf (specifically the games) aren't usually Fandoms you'd think would go together, just based on genre, but when you really think about it there's actually a lot of possibilities there, especially given that 70% of the named characters in fnaf are children and that there's a time when even the player character of most of the games is a child/teen himself makes a trip to the digital world an interesting possibility.
Months ago, I had a dream where a massive group of people, children and adults alike, were in the digital world. There was a battle going on in the distance and one teen was very focused on it. I don't know when that teen became foxybro, but at some point it registered that he had a digivice and that it was his Digimon in the battle. I woke up and an idea just formed around my thoughts at the time.
Every iteration of Digimon has its own rules, and some of them line up uncomfortably well with the story of fnaf. It is not unprecedented for Digimon to fuse with their human partners. The Digimon universe, if I remember correctly, has possession. Kids are more powerful then adults.
My idea was very vague at first, but then I realized I could play around more then I was with the rules. Here are the rules I came up with:
1. If a human feels a deep empathy/sympathy/emotion connection to a mon then they can partner. A digidestined can have multiple partners.
2. A human, through feeling strong emotion towards or abouttheir digimon, can help a Digimon digivolve beyond its natural capabilities.
3. Digimon can fusion evolve with their human partners.
4. Having a digivice means you cannot otherwise use data to modify your own body other then through fusion. This means you can't heal wounds or turn non food items into energy.
5. Data constructs can be broken down into base data, which can then be used to make new data constructs, essentially making matter out of energy.
6. Digimon can "possess" anyone without a digivice, granting the human enhanced physically capabilities. The excess data can be used to modify a possessed humans body.
7. Digivices can break.
8. Arguably, a possessed human, given enough data, could be much more powerful then other Digimon, because their data doesn't need to be used to maintain their physical form.
9. Adults are much harder to "possess".
With all that information in mind, here's the first "episode":
It's aiden's birthday and all the major characters are present for one reason or another. The fnaf 4 bullies, the missing children, the aftons and emilys, and of course a few other children and parents.
Suddenly something strange happens. The building is teleported to an entirely different world. At first it just seems like the power just went out and the adults quickly find their children or groups of children as William goes to check the breaker box, unknowingly being followed by Elizabeth, who doesn't want to be separated from him in the dark.
Henry ends up watching over charlie, the children who can't find their parents (mci kids) and Dave. Mike and his friends stick together, more annoyed that the place lost power then anything else. Employees start directing the parties back into their individual rooms leaving Henry and Mike's groups in the main area. No one has noticed the new additions to each of their outfits. Each person under the age of 19 has a small handheld device attached to their person somewhere.
After a bit of waiting there's a sound, what can only be described as a deafening roar, immediately followed by a series of explosions that cause the building to collapse around them. Henry of course protects the children while the eldest of Mike's group tackles the other three to the ground, forcing them all under a table. Elizabeth runs to her father at the loud noises and startles him enough that they're both wedged under the breaker box and safe from the rubble...
Unfortunately the chaos isn't done. Once the building is finished collapsing some kind of monsters come rushing through, grabbing children and stealing them away. Henry grabs a leg from a broken table and holds them off as the children in his care run away. William has been knocked out by the debris and hitting his head on the breaker box and both he and Elizabeth are taken.
The monsters don't notice the teens under the table, even when Mike's friends have to hold him back from chasing after his fleeing brother.
Eventually the monsters leave and everything is quiet for a while... soon a new monster, a different one, starts shuffling through the broken building. The other teens don't notice, but Mike does, especially when he realizes where it's headed. He can't stop himself from shouting at it as it approaches his fallen foxy mask.
"Hey! Leave that alone!"
And he immediately realizes he fucked up when it jolts and their eyes meet... he can feel his friends tensing behind him as it slowly starts making its way towards them... until it's snout is slotted in a gap in the collapsed ceiling and sniffs.
"A hue-mon!"
It's nasaly, excited voice comes as a shock to the four teens.
"You can talk!?"
Mike can feel his friends glaring at the back of his head, but he's honestly more concerned with the talking red dinosaur in front of them.
"Of course I can talk hue-mon!"
It pulls it's snout free and looks through the gap, a single yellow eye peering in at their little group.
"There's more then one!? This is amazing! I have so many questions!"
They flinch as the eye is replaced with long claws that easily rip apart the drywall and support beams covering the table. The more that's removed the more tense Mike's friends seem to become... but it almost seems to have the opposite effect on Mike himself.
"... are you a child?"
"Huh? Oh! Yeah! Or a rookie if you'd prefer. I'm guilmon!"
It looks at him with kind, playful eyes and he can't help but see how Aiden used to look at him...
"... where are your parents?"
"Parents?"
"Yeah. The ones who take care of you."
The spark they had seems to die a little... but guilmon quickly puts up a facade.
"... oh... yeah... I heard hue-mons had something like that. We don't have those here! We can take care of ourselves!"
Mike can tell they're smiling, or at least trying to, but it feels fake...
He pulls away from his stunned friends and climbs out from under the table, unsure what he can do to comfort the creature that looks up at him with wide, loving eyes... in the end he settles on placing a hand gently on top of its head, as if he were gently petting an animal.
The both jump away from each other when they hear a loud, shrieking sound from Mike's pocket. He reaches in and pulls out the strange device, trying to fiddle with it and silence it when it suddenly stops and glows brightly, it's once gray colors fade to the same vibrant black, white and red that make up guilmon's hide and something indescribable snaps into place for both of them.
Neither of them has any idea what just happened... but deep down they know they're stuck together, and they rather like that fact.
They hear Mike's friends climbing out from under the table, but don't look away from each other until Mike is startled by a hand on his shoulder.
"You good foxybro?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm fine, just... confused..."
The teen meets his eyes and Mike can tell he doesn't believe him, despite it being the truth. He genuinely has no idea what just happened... or why it felt so... right...
"Seriously Jamie, I'm good."
"If you say so..."
They both jump as they hear a quiet groan from nearby. All five look to the source, Mike paling in fear as he realizes what they're looking at.
"HENRY!!"
He rushes to the man's side, quickly followed by guilmon who pushes away a section of the wall that looked like it could collapse on the two. Chica mask, Marcus, is the next to react, ripping the tablecloth off one of the many tables in the room and woding it up before pressing it firmly against Henry's shoulder. Mike quickly gets on his knees and goes to help him, despite his rapid breathing and shaking hands.
"Shit! He's already lost a lot of blood!"
Mike starts shaking, terrified of what that could mean for the man. Guilmon runs from the building and Mike has to bite his lip to keep from sobbing at the immediate and painful feeling of betrayal that hits him. He almost doesn't notice the voices calling his name until he's forcefully pushed away.
He looks up through blurry eyes at the person who pushed him, finding the ever present Freddy mask no comfort when the "original" freddy is dying right next to them.
"Mike! You need to breathe!"
"He can't hear you Jeremy!"
"I'm still gonna try!"
Mike looks back at Mark and James as they continue to put pressure on the wound, even as the tablecloth slowly seems to fill with the man's blood. Only Mike seems to notice the presence enters the room. He tenses up for a moment until he hears a familiar voice.
"He's over here! We don't have much time!"
The four boys snap to look at the approaching figures, guilmon, and an angel.
The angel walks up to the man, stepping calming over the destruction caused by the monsters before her.
"Can you help him ophanimon!? Please! He's important!"
"... we are quite lucky he was not chosen."
Dread fills Mike, and somehow he can sense guilmon feels the same.
"If he had been I would be unable to help."
She taps her staff gently to the man's chest once before releasing it, allowing it to slowly fade into the body below it, an aurora dancing across the surfaces of his body.
"You can release him now. He is no longer in any danger."
The two boys hesitate a moment as they look up at the woman, but eventually James begins to lift the fabric away, revealing untouched skin where there was once a gaping wound. Mike finally stops holding back, sobbing loudly as he's pulled into guilmon's surprisingly warm arms.
Ophanimon watches on, seemingly uncaring as the boy cries himself into exhaustion. Jeremy and Mark glare up at her while James shuffles closer to the boy and monster. The silence is tense for a long while until finally guilmon once again speaks up.
"Lady ophanimon, what happened here? How did these hue-mons come to our world if they are not chosen?"
"... but they are chosen, child. Only the man was not, too old for a bond of partnership to flourish."
"But then where are their partners!? They should have been here to protect them and their loved ones! Aren't hue-mons precious!? Why were they abandoned!?"
The boys flinch back from the angry reptile, James silently holding an unconscious Mike as the lizard turns to face this respected figure with rage and pain in his eyes.
"Why was I the only one here!? I may not be weak but even I knew better then to face an army alone!"
Smoke and fire pour from the rookie's mouth as he speaks, tears in his voice. The angel continues watching on, impassive at the display.
"... Why are we here?"
The three children turn to look at Mark.
"What brought us here? And for what purpose?"
"... you are chosen..."
"Yeah... well, I refuse."
Finally the angel seems to startle, seeming almost hurt by the words.
"Whatever we were chosen for, whatever brought us here, it abandoned us. I'm not going to be used by anything that cares so little about me and my friends."
He stands, ignoring how the woman flinches at the sudden movement, and goes over to Mike, pulling his limb body into a fireman's carry and heading for the entrance.
"Jeremy, James, grab Henry. Let's get out of here before those freaks come back or something."
The two boys jump into action, following the eldest's instructions and quickly making their way through the rubble after him... guilmon gives his queen one last hateful look before turning away and following the group.
He will protect his hue-mon, even when no one else will help him.

2, 5, and 11 for dear Savrin!! <3
This answer has been sitting half finished in my drafts for so long oops😅 but thank youuuu I had so much fun thinking about all these little details of my smol Crow lad💜
2. How loosely or strictly do they use the word 'friend'?
Fairly strictly when it comes to his own relationships sadly! Savrin knows people, has a lot of acquaintances and some trustworthy sources, but very very few close friends. Someone he thought was a trusted friend fucked him over/sold him out during a contract in his 20's, which ended with him basically left for dead with a very mangled right arm. He's kept people at a wary distance since then, afraid they would find a way to emotionally manipulate him again. After all, every Crow learns to use emotions as a weapon at some point in their training, he just never thought it would be himself on the recieving end of said tactics. So, that kind of lesson impressed on you at a young age, and then having it acted out against you by someone you trust......it uh, isn't great for your psyche. It only got worse when he was given contracts where he had to gain someones trust and manipulate them for info. He very much shut down any idea of connecting with people because a) emotions can be exploited and WOW I have a lot of them I can't let people see this, b) I've been hurt by someone like this before, and c) I'm now doing said hurting to others so d) I don't deserve any kindness or sympathy. He took his anger and fear from the attack/betrayal and it morphed into "I can't trust others, and others shouldn't trust me because I have hurt others in the same way I've been hurt".
It wasn't really till that halfway point in Veilguard when he had to find a way to get the others to be open with him when he realized he needs to be open with them in turn. Bellara was a big help in this, her straightforward nature and openheartedness from the very start invited Savrin to trust her. It was with little things at first, but each time she responded with kindness, he was surprised. I'm pretty sure if there was a dialogue option for "why are you being so nice to me?" he would have picked it lmao In a similar vein, he and Davrin got along well enough, but after Weisshaupt when they had the "Grey Wardens have an expiration date" convo, Savrin was like "ooooohhh I know that feeling... if you trust me enough to share this, I think I'm safe to share the same back". They defs became good friends, trusted hunting and drinking buddies to the point that he was with Savrin during most of the end-game content.
(1000% they'd be partners in another life I'm like so certain of this, but in this timeline Savrin needed Davrin to be his friend, a solid, reliable person he could lean on that would be honest with him when he needed it. He was someone that helped teach Savrin to trust in people again........I'm also just realizing their names are literally one letter off each other asdkjdgfh).
I could write another 10000 words about how Emmrich showing Savrin the kindness he didn't think he deserved changed the way he thinks about people and friends, but oops this is already long enough😅 Emmrich being kind and empathetic to everyone without fear of it being used against him, and just being a genuinely good human without sinister motives or expecting anything in return was something Savrin forgot was possible. Emmrich made him kinder again.
5. Can they cry on command? If so, what do they think about to make it happen?
He used to be able to as a kid, was very handy to get out of trouble from guards when you're just a cute lil elf kid with big sad puppy-dog eyes crying about how his momma just got sent away and now he has to live with his big mean uncle (Viago) lmaooo. But as an adult unfortunately not.
11. If someone was impersonating them, what would friends / family ask or do to tell the difference?
Oooh I've got two thoughts about this. I feel like as a Crow, he was likely taught to create a passcode/secret in case of an instance like this. An easy answer is to ask an imposter Savrin is "when did your mother die" because the real Savrin would angrily demand that she is NOT dead, he knows she's still alive, and he WILL find her.
A funny one is to ask how his magic manifested. He was like, 11 or 12 and woke up with the most static-filled bedhead, and everytime he touched something it zapped him, or he zapped whoever he was touching. He was literally like one of those electrostatic shock machines you see at science museums, it drove him bonkers! The zaps were annoying, the clothes sticking to him was annoying, and his hair was everywhere and he couldn't stand it, he was like 2 seconds away from shaving his head to get it to stop lmao luckily one of the older Crows saw him marching to a bathroom with scizzors and stopped him, instead teaching him different ways to keep his hair tied back to keep it under control. He had dexterous lil lockpick fingers so braiding was easy for him to learn. It's one of those super clear childhood memories for him hehe

Rock-a-Doodle Review
Tumblr media
Don Bluth channels a fable from the Middle Ages and combines it with Glen Campbell's Elvis inspired vocals. The intent to adapt the fable Chanticleer and the Fox into an animated movie goes back all the way to the early days of the Walt Disney Studios. Unfortunately, it never saw the light of day as Walt Disney himself rejected the project in favor of The Sword in the Stone. It wasn't until 1982 when Disney animator Don Bluth left the company, that the project was revived under his own name. It faced a lot of development issues and it wasn't until 1988 that the project officially got off the ground.
Somewhere along the way the story became very messy but one thing was made clear. Don Bluth intended for Chanticleer to be similar to Elvis Presley as confirmed in a 1990 magazine article found at this link: https://web.archive.org/web/20170106230513/http://www.cataroo.com/DBrock.html. To make it absolutely clear that it was meant to be Elvis inspired if not an alternate version of Elvis, they had The Jordanaires to do the backing vocals for their soundtrack. Even with the release date being pushed back to avoid competing against the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast, the movie was seen as a complete failure. Are there redeemable factors that showcase that hand drawn animation died too soon, or did this film completely lay an egg? Let's find out.
Tumblr media
So we get opening narration that explains how the sun rises everyday because a rooster named Chanticleer crows. Chanticleer's song very much reminds me of Elvis up until 1956. He was known for having a twang but also a bluesy sound when he sings.
There's a confrontation between Chanticleer and the Grand Duke's henchmen that prevented Chanticleer from crowing in time. The sun comes up anyway and everyone hates him. They label him a fraud and Chanticleer runs away from the farm. Again it reminds of me Elvis' beginnings where even though he liked singing and never claimed to be bigger than he was, he was heavily judged by his peers.

In a very weird twist, this movie isn't entirely animated. In fact I have no idea if this is a real story since this is now being narrated by a live action mother. I guess this is where Who Framed Roger Rabbit meets Wizard of Oz as the lines of what reality is supposed to be is blurred. We still get the disembodied narration over the live action scenes. I guess it's supposed to explain that this is all Edmond's imagination as the real life storm rages but again I have no idea.
The storm scene is tense since I'm sure a lot of farmers can relate to the real world struggles of potential flooding. The addition of the Grand Duke meeting the live action Edmond is also understandably scary if you're a child. The Grand Duke is no longer just a fictional character but also someone who could exist in this world. In fact him saying he despises rock and roll is a parallel to how Elvis had so many sophisticated people criticize his type of music. They viewed it as something that was loud and obnoxious.
Tumblr media
So to transition back to animation, the Grand Duke transforms Edmond into an animated kitten. Because he had full intentions of eating him, I guess it makes sense within the story. Edmond of course freaks out about this since he's basically a 5 year old. With the help of Patoo, an old hound dog who I guess is the narrator, they scare the Grand Duke off. I do admit that if it isn't for subtitles I wouldn't be able to understand a word this kid says. I get that they needed a child for this role, but it's a double edged sword to try to be as realistic as possible. Edmond is written to be a little kid so it's a step up from contemporary movies that try to make kids talk like adults. The problem is that he doesn't have much of a personality outside of being a cutesy kid who's very hard to understand.
We get introduced to the other animals on Chanticleer's farm. Everyone's afraid of the rain and the Grand Duke so they need help to find Chanticleer in the city. Before they can set off on their journey, Edmond's room starts to flood. The main characters manage to find a toy box to float their way out. I have no idea why Chanticleer is the solution since he was already revealed to have no effect on the sun rise. Maybe it's meant to be symbolic where him leaving eventually lead to everything going wrong, so bringing him back could lead to things getting better. Or it could be very literal where the animals saw him as a leader, so him leaving meant no one was strong enough to stand up to the Grand Duke.
Tumblr media
I like the organ music. It gives a unique style to the traditional villain song. It adds to the Grand Duke's character of preferring classical music over "lowbrow" genres. Since Chanticleer apparently is the only way the rain will stop, the Grand Duke has plans on making sure he never comes back to the farm. So he sends his henchmen and his nephew out to find Edmond et al.
I got to admit, I like how tension is made because of character flaws that naturally exist. For instance, the toy box the main characters are in is starting to flood because Snipes is claustrophobic. To try to get air, he starts to peck holes in the box, allowing water to rush inside. Even though they survive that, the box just as quickly gets destroyed when it pops out of the aqueduct pipe. Fortunately they make it to the city safely.
Tumblr media
When the Grand Duke's nephew comes back to tell him the news, he's not happy. Turns out the "adequate" pipe was really a pipe that sends water right to the city. So he sends his nephew to the city, giving him sunglasses in the process.
The main characters start their search for Chanticleer and it's very obvious this is all a reference to Elvis' stint in Vegas. Heck they even show him in a pink Cadillac with his stage name being "The King". That's when the gang realize that Chanticleer was hiding right under their noses so they go to his show.
Tumblr media
If this scene doesn't make it anymore obvious that this is Elvis, I don't know what to say. They make it a point to give him a harsh manager. Anyone who knows about the Colonel could tell that Chanticleer's manager is meant to be him. Heck Chanticleer even uses the cliche "thank you, thank you very much."
Even though Chanticleer isn't the main character, you can't help but feel bad for him. Despite being at the top of the world and having the world in his hands, Chanticleer feels lonely. That's something we know Elvis struggled with himself according to private conversations with various people he knew.
Tumblr media
The Grand Duke contacts his manager and makes it clear that the main characters can't succeed in their plan. Despite following Chanticleer from show to show, they couldn't contact him. This is the most Elvis reference to have ever Elvised. When the average person thinks about Elvis this is what they see. It also doesn't help that his music number references Tupelo, his real life birthplace. Even the song sounds like something that Elvis would sing.
They succeed to give Chanticleer their letter, but it's all for nothing as Goldie is sent on stage. She kisses Chanticleer and that's all she wrote. He falls in love with her and completely forgets about the letter. I don't hate Goldie for doing this since she does have issues with manipulating Chanticleer. Also it's usually bad taste to blame a young starlet for doing favors to appease a man of power in exchange for a possible advancement in career. Goldie's involvement in this plot if anything reminds me of Ann Margaret. Ann Margaret and Elvis had undeniable chemistry in the mega hit movie, Viva Las Vegas. Even though their relationship in real life isn't at all like how it's portrayed in this movie, you understand that this is meant to be a play on Ann Margaret. She's the young starlet that really takes off once she got involved with Elvis/Chanticleer.
Tumblr media
They eventually find Chanticleer or rather Goldie's trailer at the movie studio. Despite Edmond trying to explain the situation, Goldie doesn't believe him and screams. This seems to alert Chanticleer's manager as the main characters get trapped. Don't ask me how a mouse could possibly be trapped by a net with giant holes in it. Heck she literally has most of her body out of it just to sneer. I get they needed to capture all of them, but it's still an annoying aspect of cartoons where a character is trapped despite having the means to escape relatively easily.
Seeing Goldie regret what happened is exactly why I don't blame her. Once she saw the full story, she knew this was terrible for Chanticleer. We get a comedic scene of the Grand Duke's nephew trying to take out the gang while Goldie tries to tell Chanticleer what happened. She gives him the letter and I'm glad we don't have this dramatic irony last too long.
Tumblr media
I'm also glad that Chanticleer is fully aware that he isn't powerless in this situation. He knows that what his manager is doing is blackmail and understands he has to game the system long enough to make a plan. In fact, it doesn't take him long at all to figure out how to break them free. It's honestly incredible how Chanticleer was able to understand the toxic environment he was in and was able to get out of it.
Edmond's finally given something important to do as he has to act as the get away driver. No idea why they couldn't have Patoo do this since he's bigger and it doesn't matter anyway since Edmond's quickly taken off the wheel when Peepers tries to reconnect the trailer to the car. Edmond has this flashback sequence where he realizes he can't be afraid.
Tumblr media
Despite this being a cartoon, you feel the tension when the gang's stuck on that water tower. Just as they're about to fall to their deaths, Peepers saves them. I have no idea how she managed to get access to that helicopter and time it exactly right but we'll just call it a Deus Ex Peepina.
Meanwhile, the Grand Duke finds the farm animals with the full intent of eating them. Somehow a pig is smaller than an owl but whatever, the Grand Duke's magic. Fortunately for the animals, Edmond and the gang make it in time. Unfortunately, the helicopter crashes in the water forcing them to get stranded on island of grass.
Tumblr media
Even though Chanticleer tries to crow he can't. Somehow it's because he has no confidence. Yeah that's a bit contrived. They should've just had it where the Grand Duke used his magic to prevent him from crowing. But Edmond interferes causing the Grand Duke to literally choke him unconscious. That's insanely dark for a relatively harmless kids movie. Like the Grand Duke by himself is menacing but watching him choke a kid is wild.
In fact it's what's actually his undoing. The animals see his act of violence and encourage Chanticleer to crow. The Grand Duke turns into a literal cyclone but because Chanticleer now has confidence, he crows. The sunlight causes the Grand Duke to lose his powers. I know it's something he's afraid of but causing him to shrink? Yeah the magic makes no sense in this movie. We get the fake out of Edmond dying but no. He just turns back into a real boy. But even then we get yet another twist. It was apparently all a dream.
Tumblr media
In the live action world, everyone thinks it was just a fictional story. That Chanticleer had nothing to do with it. I don't know what happened with the audio, but there's a weird sound to it that makes me think it's an echo. The mom assures Edmond it was just a dream, but I'm just not sure. We see a live action Edmond interact with the cartoon farm animals. It's obvious this is meant to be like Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Unlike that movie, Edmond is obviously superimposed on the animated footage. I think they're trying to show that this really is Edmond's imagination, but I have no idea.
At least the reprise of the opening song is just as good. In fact all the songs are pretty decent. Chanticleer's songs in particular are pretty entertaining and really respect Elvis' sound. Chanticleer in general is a good tribute to Elvis. He's not meant to be a joke as when he was made fun of, we're supposed to feel bad for him. He gives kids a good introduction of elements from Elvis' life. It isn't at all meant to be biographically accurate, but it's a kid friendly way of explaining the struggles he faced.
Tumblr media
Compared to other bad kids movies, this film has actual merit. Being based on a fable gives it some credit as it's a unique story. I can also say that this movie is not at all predictable. While it does take elements from Wizard of Oz by trying to spin it as being only a dream, the movie does blur the line of reality. Was it a dream? I have no idea. That at least makes it a step above modern kids movies where you know exactly what's going to happen and doesn't try to give you something beyond the bare bone cliched characters and plot elements.
Did it deserve all the hate? Not really. It's underwhelming sure, but again compared to the content we have now directed towards children, this is harmless. As someone with no childhood attachment to this movie, I actually thought it was pretty enjoyable. If you're an Elvis fan, I would recommend watching it just to see how many parallels exist. Even if you're not an Elvis fan, it's still worth showing it to children. It's innocent fun that isn't pandering or relying on the cliched potty humor that seems to be copy pasted into a lot of children movies. Therefore, I'm giving this movie a 7/10 since it doesn't blow me away by any means but it also isn't an abomination with terrible jokes that make the audience feel uncomfortable.
AN: Shout out to the discord besties for watching this movie with me and suggesting I make a review.
