or in fan fics, suddenly the guy is a blushing mess and he's supper shy when the guy has legit killed and will kill again or like blown shit up before (can't think of good examples but you get what i mean)

i know people can write / draw whatever they want but can people just accept that you can have two buff dudes without turning one into a ridiculously feminine version of themselves?

I am unreasonably upset about the fact that I've been forced to accept that Gabriel was a Gerald.

For context, in An Inspector Calls, Gerald Croft is engaged to Sheila Birling when he meets a homeless, struggling Eva Smith in a bar, and essentially in return for a home and money he shows her affection (ahem), then gets rid of her once he no longer has a use for her. Now, obviously this isn't a direct translation, but the essentials are - a Gerald is a character who uses another character, in return for something they need, usually masking the fact that they're using them with affection and love.

And against my will I've had to accept that this is exactly what Gabriel does to Nathalie.

Did I want to think he had potential to be better? Did I think he genuinely cared for Nathalie?? Hell, did I just really really want somebody to care about Nathalie???

Probably all of the above but the point is: he's Gerald. And I cannot - I literally can't unsee it now. Their whole dynamic in S3 is like “oh boohoo I'm sorry I wish you didn't have to use the peacock Miraculous and kill yourself over it but uh I need to use your powers” “yeah no that's fine I'm all good”. Which, given the "Gerald" theorem, I'm assuming leads to the fact that what Nathalie needed, above all, was someone to care about her - and Gabriel came along, as Sheila Birling puts it, "like a fairytale prince", and was so caring and gentle and... Yeah. She fell for him. And. Yeah he genuinely did seem to care like twice. But so did Gerald. Gerald actually admits that he did care for Eva, just not the way that she cared for him, and, uh, not enough to not just dispose of her. So he discards her anyway when she stops being useful.

Leading me neatly to my point.

He starts using the peacock Miraculous the second it's fixed, the slimy bastard, HOWEVER. It runs way deeper than that. Assuming I'm right (which I almost DEFINITELY am), then Gabriel only needed Nathalie while she was useful. She didn't stop being useful in season three - she's still scheming for him, helping him with plan after plan. It's only partway through season 5 that she officially servers ties with him, and starts to actively hinder him.

Nathalie stops being useful when she fails as Safari. And I reckon that's when Gabriel and Tomoe decided she had to go.

(It's painfully, I-was-ugly-crying-over-it obvious in Conformation that Gabriel is fully prepared to let Nathalie die - in the original storyboard, her alliance was encouraging her to sleep, and he's very obviously prepared for this moment - I've made a separate post about it that I'll link if I can find it. However, onto the next bit)

With all of this, there's one thing that sticks out to me - Nathalie didn't see any of it until it was already too late. There could be many reasons for this. But you know who would have seen through it? Whose parents were all loving and perfect until she married the wrong man? Emilie. Emilie, who left behind those videos, which on the surface look innocent, but when you look deeper look like a (love confession???????) AHEM a warning. I reckon Emilie noticed what was going on and realised that Nathalie wouldn't see through Gabriel, so she left those videos addressed to Nathalie (not Gabriel, which surely they should have been - they were about him, after all - unless they were there...) as a warning. I don't think the videos were supposed to be about helping Gabriel, I think Emilie was warning Nathalie to get the fuck out of that house, and to take Adrien with her. Because Emilie knew it'd end like this.

So like, I got into inspector gadget around late 2019, and dropped it in mid 2020 (lowkey i feel like out of embarrassment at the time) and didnt touch the show again until recently in 2024 and omfg, istg once you get into inspector gadget it never leaves you... i was going thru my images post 2020 and hes always been in the back of my mind, id doodle him on pages, and occassionally save an image of him LIKE- HES NEVER LEAVING MY HEAD LOOOOOOOOOOOOL i luv u gadget

This scene is one of the best ones of the 2015 show.

Instead of using it for the first episode, they should have used it as the ending episode and left the show on a cliff hanger if they knew they were cancelled. (don't get me wrong the random Gadget goes to the supermarket to get food and condoms to for his dinner with Quimby was okay for a person like me but not as an ending)

OR, if you're going use it for the first episode make something of it. Make this the cause for his complete disregard of feelings, people and causing his ego trip in the show. He is reset and Penny is like 'Oh no, Uncle Gadget' in such a monotone way when he does need to be restarted.

This is like a reoccurring event I guess when he's dumb and he sticks forks in toaster.

i kind of hate what theyve done to sullivan. like in the few eps that he returned as a guest appearance he was shown to have learnt from Kembleford and how fr browns talents can be used not sent away and ignored. but now he's sending away father brown AND his girlfriend like their opinions mean nothing. and arresting people even more brashly and quickly than before. makes no sense?? i guess if he was acting like he knew everything bc of his london work but then they should make that explicit? and also was he this sexist before idk but 😐

ik the point of father brown is that the police dont like him but maybe that's a tired narrative now. if they keep mrs d and sullivan then this has to change he has to develop realistically. otherwise a break ups needed and THEN we'd have a bitter renewed reasoning for him to dislike fr b and mrs d's theories and 'interering'. THAT would be sullivan and explain his brash arrests for sure

Random ass thought I had: Gadget knows Penny is capable of helping him with his assignments.

Does he know her computer book is more than a simple toy? No. Does he know she secretly helps him in almost every case? Also no.

But he knows damn well Penny can do stuff like that, most of the time he literally leaves her alone with brain whenever he goes into action and trusts that she'll be safe (of course Penny follows him but you know what I mean). He knows Penny is smart for her age, but she's still her age.

You know how kids in shows get trauma or something cause they fight crime or something, and how a child shouldn't have to be responsible for all that crap? Gadget knows this, even tho Penny can help Gadget she's still a child and deserves to have a good childhood which means she shouldn't have to bare the burden of M.A.D like Gadget does (cuz taking care of criminals is literally his job)

And yes while Penny does end up getting involved, Gadgets got the right idea when it comes to parenting.

The Inspector and Constable Reggie will never be canonically romantically involved. The Inspector will live far longer then Reggie and though on the surface S02E13 looks like it’s about the strength of their bond not wavering despite eons and seperate planetary location, how they were yet able to communicate, theres an underlying theme of mortality. Reggie’s mortality, and his impending death. That moment where the inspector is in the chambre, realizing Reggie is dead here in the future, but that bittersweet realization that Reggie is just a nucleionic fluid replacement in the darsit away, is just so impactful. He’s not happy, and his dialogue to Barbara Clarke reflects it. He’s talking a lot slower, and that moment when he grabs onto Reggies arm, pulling him back in the darsit. When Reggie says he loves the inspector and the inspector says “mate, I missed you.” Not responding with the truthful “i love you too” or acknowledging the romantic undertones of that statement because the inspector knows he simply cannot love Reggie.
