John and Arthur in different podcasts that I have listened to over the year

long post, spoilers for Red Valley, Midnight Burger, Wolf 359, SCP: Find Us Alive, Penumbra Podcast (but only Junoverse), and of course Malevolent

Red Valley

Considering how Arthur is "special" in canon, I will go and say that he takes the place of the Golden EggTM aka Worren Godby. He also has a lot of trauma (his parents' death, life in an orphanage, the whole deal with Bella and Daniel, Faroe, and possibly Parker's death). Actually, he was in prison either because of Faroe or because of Parker. Cannot decide which one.

Maybe Parker was one of the previous scientists who worked with Arthur, but at some point, he started having regrets and wanted to stop the Overhead (or Dreamhead/Overlands). John was also one of the scientists who ratted Parker out, and that's how Parker was killed. Unfortunately for John, he also started having regrets and fled the company. He tried to contact amnesiac Arthur to make him help John blow up the company. They were caught, and the only reason Hastur (aka Bryony) didn't kill John is that John was actually the one who was responsible for putting Arthur into successful cryosleep. No one after Arthur could figure out how to get the patient into cryosleep and out, so they had to keep John alive and imprisoned.

Midnight Burger

John found the Midnight Burger - or I guess it would be a book shop? like the one from the s1. He was trying to escape his father - I saw many modern aus made Hastur be some crime lord - and he ended up in a Time Spinning, Dimension Wrapping Book Shop. I think it would be called "Captain of the Soul" or "Promises", not sure on that one.

With Arthur, it is interesting cuz I want to make it Faroeverse or with a hint of Faroeverse. So, Arthur and Faroe had a strained relationship: they often argued and had scream matches. Faroe was 17, so she was planning to reach 18 and then get out of the house. But something happened - maybe a house fire or gassleak or something - and no one found Faroe's body. Which led Arthur to believe that maybe she ran away from home. So he goes looking for her and stumbles about Book Shop

Additional Book Shop staff can be Noel and Oscar. Maybe Parker?

Wolf 359

John is a ship AI - the main program is Y3LL0W_K1N6 and all big ships use it, while small ships use the fragments of the main program. Arthur is a communication officer and, like Doug, is being used as a lab rat for the Decima virus. HOWEVER, the role of Hilbert is taken by Oscar. Gives a new spin on the "You are my purpose"

Another spaceship recruit is Parker. Noel is someone like Lovelace. For the SI-5 maybe we can use Buthcer, Kayne and Witch?

SCP: find us alive

I think, this one is straightforward: they are scientists working on the site. I think John used to be in a higher position than Arthur, but because he disagreed with Hastur, he got demoted. I think Arthur is either from the Containtment department or the Security Department or the Maintance Department. John used to be in the Research Department, but after his demotion, he got into the Communicative Department.

Other scientists Parker (Contaiment/Security), Noel (Containtment/Records), Oscar (Medical/Botany) and others, which I am to lazy to write every other character.

Penumbra Podcast (but only Junoverse)

Arthur is still a PI and has not legally experimented on himself with alien technology, which was supposed to cure his blindness, but instead, he got hit with John. John is sort of like a virus/parasite, and together with Arthur, they are trying to understand where he came from by tracking people who experimented on Arthur. I think Arthur is from Mars, same as Juno? Maybe from other planet.

frankenstein’s monster:

mae was created by a scientist to resemble his dead friend and act as a weapon. she was purpose built to be beautiful, but at her core, she’s this purple goop humanoid. she simultaneously is undeniably beautiful and disgusting due to factors involved in her creation, outside of her control. he tells her that she IS his dead friend. she doesn’t find out until after her creator, the scientist, is dead along with her entire universe. she then struggles with her identity and being taken advantage of by humans for the rest of her story.

kon-el / conner kent / superboy:

she’s the OG luthor lab-grown super. she has identity issues and a complex relationship with the other supers and has an arc with kon himself !! she ALSO has a very hectic love life (aka is being taken advantage of all the time) and no real civilian identity at first. she also also has themes of issues with being in the public eye (like kon & gbs, mae has wlex! also lex luthor literally owns the trademark to her likeness!) she’s also a post crisis rehash of an erased character (kon is the second technical superboy after clark’s superboy was erased post COIE, mae is the second supergirl after kara was erased post COIE). also ALSO she has a punk-esque look she sometimes shapeshifts into, most notably while destroying a rich man’s property :3. they both also obviously were never children.

Both Mae and J’onn are the sole survivors of a genocide that wiped out their people. They both failed to save the people they care about. Problems with memories & terrible visions. Shapeshifters with weird powers that come out of nowhere, who struggle with their identity, especially their civilian identity. Both have a weird relationship with humanity. Both have a tumultuous love life & relationships they cling to because they’re terrified to be alone. Both mentally unstable, though J’onn hides it better.

misa amane:

they’re both intelligent and impulsive yet devoted young women who get into toxic relationships with morally questionable geniuses with a history of murder. they’re both reckless and kind, possessive and devoted <3

rei ayanami:

both are unknowing clones of dead women (rei of shinji’s mother, mae of lana lang). both have angel imagery. they both wish to be viewed as/connect with humanity. they are both created in an apocalyptic context.

I need you to know that you (and Anjelle) launched my into a Naruto phase some months ago and, now that you've waded into TMA, I can't stop thinking of the parallels between Obito/Tobi and Michael Shelley/Michael Distortion. This of course broadened into the time-honoured fandom tradition of thinking about other characters and what Fears they align with and would be most scared by but I always go back to them.

ANYWAY just had to mention it because it was driving me insane and sharing is caring. Thank you for all the fantastic TMA art, I am loving it VERY much!

Jon takes Martin by the shoulders, leans up on the tips of his toes, and kisses him.

(probably one of the best instances i've seen of crack treated seriously, and i love that jon's asexuality plays a key role in breaking the sex pollen curse.)

👻 @tellnotalespod (S2E1.5) Bonus Riley and Julia! I am HERE for it!! It hurts my heart how Riley has immediately cut Leo off for their lack of contact even though I get it and it’s so in character. And Julia being so intelligent and fantastic (and in love) that she’s going to reverse engineer a novel piece of tech from Leo’s nonsense. Your honour, I love them!! 

🧳 Travelling Light @monstrousproductions (9) This ep had amazing representation of me (introvert who wants their person to entertain them or they’ll perish). I really enjoyed the description of the different cultures and how they fit together while still shining individually - so nice!

🏢 @somewhereohio (S2E7) WHAT an episode!!! That whole scene with Green and Sterling was heart breaking, I’ve been turning it over and over in my mind trying to decide what I would do in that situation and I just don’t know! Honestly, I’ve never been the biggest fan of stories centred around the American teenage experience because there’s no nostalgia there for me BUT I think this show does a great job of juxtaposing this against the cosmic horrors going on and, especially at the end of this episode it really hits home that oh, no, they are not a plague that needs to be wiped out or the rot at the heart of society - they’re literally just kids!  

🍾 @ameliapodcast I’ve got one episode to listen to before the end of season 2 and I’m so excited to see what silliness the Amelia gang pull to get out of this sticky situation! This show has brought me so much joy this week - it’s been much appreciated! 

⚔️ @camlannpod arrived with a delightful first episode. I love these characters already and the twist of the knights being a hostile entity is very intriguing indeed. I’m such a sucker for queer yearning and you already know that ‘MY Gwaine’ had me in pieces. I didn’t miss the lithium mention either, and I’m looking forward to finding out how the show explores managing significant mental health issues in a dystopian world. 

🖥️ I was planning on starting to listen to The Magnus Protocol next week but there were way too many spoilers floating around to avoid listening for long. I’ve only listened to the first episode but it’s made me realise how much I’ve missed the writing and style of horror typical to TMA. I love that we’re being given a bunch of very interesting characters from the get-go and I looooove the theme music.

okay well give it a shot:

sam: got isekaid into the fnaf universe from our universe. he then gets picked up by henry emily, who gives him a place to stay. sam discovers that rather than william afton being the bad guy, amanda afton is the murderer. were not going to spoil too much actually bc were writing a fic for it, well link it here when we publish it!

tma:

sullivan: an avatar of the dark, he used to work at the magnus institute and is the only one of gertrudes assistants to survive. he wears sunglasses because hes essentially blind in the light, due to his eyes being reversed (not literally, i just dunno what word to use).

scp:

oh. ohohohphohphohohohoh!!! we have a lot of scp ocs (perks of being a fan for over two year now apparently)

technician moon: our oc for our siblings and ours fan site, site 47! its literally soulless, due to its mother being an anomaly which weirded out the hume levels around her, causing moon to be born with no soul and no emotions. they use they/it, and have a partner called micheal (pronounced my-KEE-al). nicknamed by our other ocs as techy. has white hair.

micheal: head researcher of site 47, specifically looks after the keter scps. also uses they/it pronouns. fairly relaxed, but wont hesitate to fight people if they feel the need.

masky: this ones a bit cringe but. so is everything. masky is a branch that technician moons universe can go down, where moon has a theory that what 035 gets rid of is their hosts soul, so it gives themself up to be a host for 035. luckily for moon, theyre right, which leads to a "two minds one body" sorta situation, where both moon and 035 (later nicknamed skip by moons friends, and "that bastard who lives on my face and doesnt even pay rent" by moon) have to live inside the same body. luckily, their personalities are different enough to know whos talking. their eyes will say whos in control, if their eyes are brown, its moon, if theyre purple, its skip, and if their right eye is purple and their left is brown, its both.

dass: our take on the main character of scp:cb, if he wasnt stuck in a timeloop hed be classified as an scp, due to the fact that he can save anywhere, and reload to that point in space and time if he dies, or, in the case of this specific time loop, if he finished the game. he also has two ghosts following him, michael and ana, both of whom used to be d-class, but died due to various experiments (ana died from scp 009, and is the body you see under the ice in game, michael died from a currently undecided scp). oh yeah, and he can see all the d-class that any specific person has gotten killed surrounding that person.

pyleos: they live in a universe where most scps dont exist, however, there are still two. and one of those scps is some kind of beast, who chases pyleos and his family out of their home. whilst running away from this beast, pyleos and his younger brother get seperated from the rest of their family, and end up in a government adjacent base. the government adjacent people threaten to hurt pyleos' little brother if he doesnt go throught this door (the other anomaly in that universe) that leads to the scp universe, so he goes through. he then spends a year there, and goes through wacky hijinks and shit.

currently unnamed: pretty much my only oc that interacts with canon characters. basically, an agent. has three partners, ana, thomas, and james, nicknamed timmy! works under clef. a system, the alters who tend to front are sam (host), agent (protector) and raphael. agent is also a sub-system.

solarballs:

leyan: an ex-planet from another solar system, called the twos system, because there were two stars, two planets, and two moons. leyan was a rocky planet, who orbited around a brown dwarf called erus. the other star was called cerb, and the other planet was a gas giant callled gali, and he orbited cerb. the two moons orbited leyan, the biggest one was called phonee, the smaller one was perseh. if you want to know what happened to them, ill happily talk about them on my other blog, @might-be-capricorn!

heavens official blessing:

mi quan (pronounced mee chan): a junior official, serves under mu qing. pretty much the most senior of them all, has been with mu qing for nearly 800 years old. also they used to be a ghost. theyre around 12000 years old, and have a brother. they/them. used to be a calamity.

mi xing: mi quans brother, also a junior official, he works under feng xin. the two of them dont get along at all. he/him

no name yet: mi quans partner, also a junior official under mu qing, also a ghost. the two of them were childhood friends. they/them

mag 15 lost johns cave - maybe my all time favourite i love how they used the "take her not me" audio and i really hope they do more kind of 'found footage' type stuff like that in tmagp

mag 27 a sturdy lock - i dont know what it is about this statement but its another one of my all time favourites, especially when we got the sons pov afterwards. ending it with "there was never a lock" was good i liked that

mag 32 hive - i too am in love with jane prentiss. this episode is so good i forget its recorded by jon its just so jane. there are so many iconic lines ITS SO GOOD "there is a wasps nest in my attic" what if i go crazy. one of the few statements i know word for word

mag 65 binary - i love sergey ushanka i love the way they portray the combination of human and computer i love how much it *hurts* "the angles cut me when i try to think" "theres no feeling but the no feeling hurts" SO GOOD

mag 122 zombie - i love the philosophical concept of zombies i think this is just a very fun episode, i love when they build statements off like real world phenomena! also this is the statement where jon wakes up and starts calling himself the archivist <3

mag 77 the kind mother - one of the scariest to me. the not them is scary already but having your own mother be replaced and not being able to do anything about it and have it know you know. terrifying. reminds me of that old copypasta thing that was like. your mums voice shouts you to go down stairs but as youre about to your mum grabs you and says "i heard it too". things pretending to be your mother are just scary to me

mag 85 upon the stair - just a very cool episode i love that its from a real poem (good poem too) and i love how contradictory it is

mag 97 we all ignore the pit - i dont know WHY this episode always sticks out so much but its def in my top 10 its SO fun

twenty questions for fic writers

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 396! I had no idea I was so close to the big 4-0-0.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 1,161,641 since 2011

3. What fandoms do you write for? The top five above the ‘expand fandoms list’ section on my dashboard are: Rusty Quill Gaming, Terra Nova (the terrible 2012 TV show), Assassin’s Creed (Odyssey), Stranger Things and Baldur’s Gate 3. Honourable mention to Final Fantasy 14 which is likely to inspire more in me at some point.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

You are the reason I stay alive (Stranger Things) at 1,557

Amusingly, none of these feature in the top 5 for comments. Those are all Rusty Quill Gaming, which doesn’t surprise me at all. Of all of them, only 2 feature in the top 10 for comments.

5. Do you respond to comments? I always do, yes!

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don’t think I ever write an angsty ending, because I am a happy ending queen. In fact if I search my almost 400 fics for the word angst, it only features in 7. I suppose Shield (An)other (RQG) would count but it was written from a place of bitterness so the angst is really all self-imposed.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? This is actually a harder question to answer, because that’s what I always aim for. The first one that came to mind though was I don't know where this road will end, but I'll walk it with you, hand in hand (RQG) because it was probably the last time I was truly happy with what was happening in RQG and I think it shows in the story. Everything since has been me fixing canon, with equally happy (blissful) endings.

8. Do you get hate on fics? I am very lucky - I’ve only ever had one comment that tended towards the negative and that was because I mentioned a canon female love interest too much in a m/m fic. That one got deleted.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Heck yeah I do. Of all my fics, 179/400 are rated E and 39/400 are M. I write all sorts - from soft to hard kink and everything in between. It’s also the far easiest thing for me to write.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I only have two, my favourite one is probably 34 Tite Street which is a TMA/RQG crossover. I did write a Hades (game)/RQG crossover which is probably a bit crazier.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? There was once upon a time that I’m pretty sure an RQG fic was heavily inspired by one of mine. But that’s okay, I don’t think it got much attention and I wasn’t going to throw my weight around about it.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! One of my favourite fics for a very small fandom (Appropriate Punishment from And Then There Were None) was translated into Russian.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Very many things, with some truly wonderful friends <3<3

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? Absolutely Zoscar from RQG. Nothing has inspired me quite like them, and nothing has got me so many wonderful friends.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? I only have three on ao3 and tbh I don’t really want to finish any of them.

16. What are your writing strengths? Characterisation - I have been writing long enough that I can trust if something isn’t working, it’s because I’ve fucked up the characterisation at some point. Whether that’s a line of dialogue that doesn’t sound right, or a whole section of ‘they wouldn’t fucking do that’, I have to fix it to make the fic work.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Like Miri, I hate description so very much. I feel like I’m bad at it and I make it boring. 

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I don’t mind unless it’s not translated. There have been a few fics I’ve seen in my time where another language has been used as a purposeful exclusionary tactic and no translation was given. (An RQG one comes to mind - the smugness radiating off of it was repulsive.)

Okay okay I have a top five ready, but top ten's a bit harder, esp off the top of my head like this.

One, MAG101 Another Twist. Two, MAG039 Infestation. Three, MAG065 Binary (yes, I know, potentially controversial take here). Four, MAG165 Revolutions. Five, MAG047 The New Door.

And then, in no particular order (I had to look at the list of Statements for these, as I know the numbers and names, but I didn't know which ones I really loved off the top of my head like that), 059 Recluse; 114 Cracked Foundations; 160 The Eye Opens; 170 Recollections; and 177 Wonderland.

Honourable mentions to 026 A Distortion; the Orsinov bit in 097 We All Ignore The Pit; 086 Tucked In; 123 Web Development; and 172 Strung Out; plus, of course, 001 Anglerfish, which served as an efficient hook to make me if not invested in the series, then at least interested. (That honour goes to 039 Infestation, which is why it's in my top 5; it made me realise that this wasn't just a series of somewhat connected stories, but something the characters would actually participate in, with risks and stakes for our protagonists beyond "Oh Yeah this happened to me offcamera, let me tell you about it".)

Okay so I have to start with my absolute favourites:

Archive 81 -> We could be getting a new season but in the meantime, the creators have made an album called Generation Crossing that tells the story of a ship's AI on its expedition

The Lost Cat Podcast -> A seriously underrated podcast, and one of my all time favourites about some dude looking for his cat. Theres some killer music as well!

Rusty Quill Gaming -> I'm pretty sure its finished..? A DND Pathfinder podcast with a bunch of people who voiced characters on TMA (I'm bad with names lol) but was apparently my top podcast of 2025, so if that tells you anything, its good.

The Bright Sessions -> Completed. It helped me out when I was going through some stuff and its a little like a comfort podcast now. It is VERY good.

I am in Eskew -> Mainly horror and there are some very graphic descriptions so i would check the tw's just in case but i still love it to this day.

Shipworm -> Its basically a audio drama movie! its so cool and one of the first things i listened to so i cant exactly rememebr what its about apart form being really great.

The Mistholme Museum -> only recenlty finished and oh my lordy lord did i enjoy it! Definitley in my top 5 nd would seriously recommend(i was recommened by a moot also - @the-pest1lence thank you sm!)

The Dead Letter Office of Somewhere, Ohio -> again it is an amazing podcast that i adore and is seriously underrated.

What Happened In Skinner -> Sort of like the black tapes format but boy is it great and they actually finished it (unlike the black tapes which is my only criticism for that podcast) - it really cool and you can actually join the discord that they refernce in the podcast. very cool and amazing characters
