I love the Fairchild Family for how versatile their roles are in TSC
Like we have the Herondales - The main characters/love interests
And the Lightwoods - the supporting leads/best friends
But for the Fairchilds we have:
Charlotte - mentor character/leader
Henry - the scientist/supporting mentor
Charles - the annoyance
Matthew - the best friend/supporting lead
Jocelyn - the mother/rebel
Clary - the main character
Sebastian - the villain
And Ash - TBD (but potential main character and love interest)

If someone told me that an ancient Herondale made a deal with a fairy so that their descendants would always be able to find their true love but always have terrible communication skills with them, I would believe them in a heartbeat.

The Wicked Powers Title Is Talking About The Families.
This is my crazy theory for The Wicked Powers series. This is kind of long so I will put a TLDR at the end of this. So far everyone assumes that the powers refer to either demonic powers with the princes of hell rising or Ash’s and Kit’s powers and connection to the Fae. I have been doing some re-reading of TMI and TID and I think the powers refer to old shadowhunter families.
The first thing that led to this conclusion is how important family trees are now and how much it is being emphasized. Also at the end of TMI, it is very important that Jace picks a family to belong to and he chooses the name that goes with his bloodline. Family names have been important since the beginning and they talk about how there are old and powerful families within the Clave. They are described as rich and hold leadership positions in most of the books. They wear rings that symbolize their families and these rings are always mentioned and significant to the characters.
Second thing is that the development of only a few families have been important throughout the series. Cassie focuses on just a few main families through out the books even though she could have added other ones because there is so much time passing and they are in much different locations. This would have been easier than creating a ton of stories to explain the locations of these families also. This is building to some kind of epic conclusion with the Fairchilds, Herondales, Lightwoods, Blackthorns, Carstairs, and Morgensterns.
Third thing is that all of these families have or a going to have some kind of power beyond typical shadowhunter ability. The Fairchilds have the ability to pull things out of pictures and turn objects into paintings. This hasn’t been mentioned in a while but it is significant in the first series and is revealed to be a family thing because Jocelyn can do it too. It would be interesting if Mathew or Charles did it in TLH. The Herondales are connected to the dead, the see ghosts and talk to them. The Carstairs are connected to weapons and control magical swords. The Lightwoods are connected to demons and the downworlders, even their family crest is connected to them, hell fire. They are always intertwined with them in some way and have relations with them that are closer or more meaningful then characters from other families throughout the books. The next book is about the Blackthorns and Morgensterns so I think their powers will be revealed and then it will lead to some battle involving emblems of some kind or a sort of rune that amplifies these powers and that will defeat the princes of hell in one final battle combining all of the families from the series.
TLDR: I think the powers refer to the powers of the families all of the series before it has focused on. The powers specific to these old and powerful families will be used in a final battle against the Princes of Hell.

“And Nephilim—we tend to love very overwhelmingly. To fall in love only once, to die of grief over love—my old tutor used to say that the Nephilim's hearts were like those of angels: They felt every human pain and never healed.” ― Cassandra Clare, City of Heavenly Fire

And now that we, you know, actually know what Will and Tessa's children are like, through having an entire series about them via The Last Hours (we'd just gotten introduced to the concept that Will and Tessa had apparently had kids in the The Infernal Devices epilogue and it was there that we got this information I'm about to mention), I'm even more sad that Tessa leaves James and Lucie after Will dies (though I do understand her decision). Because in being immortal (while her family isn't), it killed her when her husband died. But she knew she'd never be able to bear seeing her children eventually die. -sobs and never stops sobbing-

It’s hilarious to me how similar Kit and Jace are supposed to look bc of familial resemblance
Like damn the father of Tobias and Grandpa Herondale (Edmund’s father) must have had the strongest genes in history.
Like thise genes were so strong they stayed dominant for seven generations?!!
The Whitelaws and the Montclaires never had a chance with Jace
Though I think it would be so funny if some shadowhunter meeting Jace was like:
Sh: my, you look just like—
Jace: Stephen Herondale, I know
Sh: no not him, like—
Jace: James Herondale?
Sh: no no, you look just like my great aunt Ariana Whitelaw
Jace: who??
I just want Jace to find out more about his mother and grandmothers side of the family (he could prob get an ancestral home in france from it lol)
I just find it hilarious how Jace is so excited to have someone he is blood related to
When Jace — is more closely related to Emma, The Blackthorns, and the Lightwoods than Kit
And Kit — is more closely related to Kieran and Ash than to Jace 😭
