Thinking about my OC Star Trek Ship, the Harker again.

Origin and 2 new crew members.

The Harker, before it was given it's title, was an experimental scouting frigate that was in development during the Dominon War, code named the "Grey Bat", equipped for with experimental/advanced scanning technology, communications ability, experimental "stealth tech" (not cloaking), and accommodations that would allow a small crew to comfortably exist behind enemy lines for weeks or months at a time.

The War ended before the "Grey Bat" was called to service, and post-war was retrofitted for peacetime, it's more experimental systems removed in place of more reliable tools, weapons downgraded, and the ship was given new purpose as a tool of paranormal investigation, renamed by it's new Captain as "The Harker".

New Crew:

Zimmer Vonn: Leader of the ship's engineering division, the Bajoran LT was a sapper during the Occupation, though their philosophies often clashed with other Bajorans, causing them to join Starfleet after victory was won.

Works well with Captain Stonewall, given he himself was an engineer once where young Von is.

Enjoys puzzles, learning about history and new cultures, and playing historical combat games (tabletop).

Rachel Thors: The "Watcher of Watchmen" as it were, Starfleet Intelligence's internal affairs representative, to ensure the crew of the Harker follow proper laws and don't go "cowboy". Captain Stonewall values her greatly, and goes to her for advice often, the two enjoying a professional respect.

Child of a Human Man and Vulcan Lady, raised primarily on Earth. More expressive of her emotions compared to other Vulkans, but respects the ideals of Vulcan logic.

After the stress of the her last several assignments, she views The Harker as something of a "vacation", despite often being thrown into peril during her time with the crew.

Guys. I can feel it already. THIS is the year. This is the year that Jonathan Harker will go on his business trip with no issue. Just a lovely train ride through Europe where he collects paprika recipies for Mina, meets some friendly, living people looking to buy properties in England, and then returns home safely.

I don't think we give Jonathan Harker nearly enough credit for his absolutely unhinged choices. In 1897, that pathetic wet cat of a man was written with enough grit, willpower, and raw human stupidity to rival any of our modern horror podcast protagonists. When faced with a centuries-old vampire, in a coffin, drenched in fresh blood, he really thought the best thing to do was to hit it in the face WITH A SHOVEL. The audacity. The misplaced confidence. The sheer desperation. No plan. No hesitation. Running on fear and spite alone. And i fucking love him for it. Truly the character of all time.

Van Helsing and the Suitor Squad: "Depressing, but sure, absolutely."

Jonathan:

Mina: "...Jonathan?"

Mina: "Will you promise to slay me if I get vampire'd?"

Jonathan: "Mina, I will not lie to you."

Jonathan:

Mina: "Jonathan. I need you to look me in the eye and promise to murder me martyr-style if I get too undead."

Jonathan: "Fine. I can promise to kill."

Mina: "Me? Vampire me?"

Jonathan, making unbroken eye contact with the four guys who just promised to behead and impale his wife if she stops being human enough: "I guarantee there will be killing involved if Vampire You happens."

Wanting to write Star Trek fanfic but also realizing I am not that familiar with rank terminology used in it.

The thing you need to know about Johnathan Harker is that the nuns who found him on the side of the road crazed, half starved, and ranting about bloodsucking monsters wrote on his report card that "Johnathan is a delight to have in class"

The man is telling anyone who will listen about how the devil walks the earth like a man and climbs the walls like a lizard and still never forgets to say please and thank you. Mina was absolutely right to wife him.
