the white-tailed ptarmigan, also known as the snow quail, is a mountainous-dwelling bird and the smallest member of the grouse family. they are found at high altitudes in the continental united states, canada, and alaska. they have distinct ‘cryptic’ plumage, meaning that their plumage differs drastically throughout the year; during warm summers, they are speckled brown and black, going through an intermediary mottled phase before fully molting into their snow-white winter plumage. they primarily feed on insects and plant matter. their eggs are laid in a simple depression in the ground; the chicks are precocial and leave the nest soon after hatching.

Have you ever seen a Spruce Grouse (Canachites canadensis)? Known for their tameness around humans, these birds inhabit a wide range across North America’s forests including parts of Canada and the United States. Vibrantly-colored males use their plumage in courtship displays: They can snap their tail feathers open with a whooshing sound, swish from side to side, and “dance” to attract the attention of mates.

My northern cousin thinks he's "greater". But which one of us is the archnemesis of Republican politicians and oil barons? That's right—ME.
Lesser Prairie Chicken (Tympanuchus pallidicinctus)
Southern midwestern USA
Status: Endangered/Threatened in the US
You can find a summary of the chicken's battle with Republicans here. Thanks for that veto, Biden.

Every rich person who goes around talking about how they’re so different and that if they had to start over from $100 today would have a million by the end of the year should be subjected to some kind of fairy curse where they have to earn a million dollars in a year’s time starting from a hundred dollar bill and — this is important — nobody recognizes them. Either they’ve been enchanted to have a totally unrecognizable face, or everyone around them has been ensorcelled to completely forget who they are.
Because if they are so singularly spectacular, if everyone can just pull themselves up by their bootstraps, then it couldn’t possibly be that they’re particularly well connected through friends or family or work. It couldn’t possibly be that it’s the collateral of who they know and who they were that got them where they are today. They should be able to turn that $100 into a million because they’re just so gosh darn committed to it.
And if they don’t have the million by the end of the year they’re turned into a pressed penny
