god I love season one of Steven Universe. like I love Homeworld and the world building and the new villains and stakes later on but. there is something SO CHARMING about season one.

the gems are so ... ALIEN. and confused about human customs. and searching for magical artifacts. and trying to get a grip on their half-human son who's stumbling around trying to figure everything for himself. and even though he's SO not capable at this stage and he's selfish the way a 12 year old boy is and silly and unable to conceptualize the stakes of Gem Stuff.... the gems still very very obviously care about him.

they sit through his little parties. they try to teach him and show him his legacy. they interact with the beach city citizens for him. they watch his movies and play his games and they SO OBVIOUSLY love him to death, even from day one.

it's just.... so so sweet to me. that even before their own character arcs develop, the Gems *love Steven.* and they try SO hard for him

The golden rays of the morning sun streamed through the small oval window of the cruise ship room. You had forgotten to close the curtains the night before, allowing the early light to slowly warm the space. The soft glow reflected on Anakin’s sandy blond hair, the messy strands splayed against the crisp white pillowcase. His chest rose and fell in a slow, rhythmic motion, his arms wrapped securely around you, holding you close. His chin rested comfortably in your hair, which still carried the faint scent of your shampoo.

The light crept higher, reaching your face, and you stirred sleepily, the warmth stirring a quiet discomfort. You mumbled, your eyelids fluttering before you finally gave in and blinked yourself awake, squinting to adjust to the brightness.

The sunrise outside was breathtaking, the sun climbing out of the endless ocean to paint the sky in shades of gold and amber. It was beautiful, but bittersweet—this was the last morning you’d wake up to this view, the last morning of the cruise. Soon, you’d be stepping off this ship and back into the rhythm of everyday life: college, work, and Netflix marathons filling the gaps where adventure had been.

Your thoughts were interrupted by the quiet sound of Anakin stirring. Your fingers absently traced through his soft hair, and he responded with a sleepy hum, leaning into your touch as if drawn by instinct. His nose scrunched slightly, and the corner of his lips twitched into the beginnings of a smile.

“I know you’re not sleeping,” you whispered, your voice calm and teasing.

He let out a low, playful grunt, refusing to open his eyes just yet. “What? I was being so convincing,” he replied, his voice rough with sleep but laced with humor.

A smile tugged at your lips as he finally opened his eyes, those stormy blues meeting yours with a warmth that made your heart ache. You relaxed back into his embrace as he leaned forward to press a soft kiss to your forehead, his hand trailing soothing patterns down the length of your back.

“Did you sleep well?” he murmured, his tone tender.

“Uh-huh,” you mumbled groggily, your gaze wandering from his to the simple white wallpaper with thin blue stripes on the wall. The room fell quiet again, but not uncomfortably so. The events of the past few days loomed in your mind, crashing over you like the waves outside hitting the hull of the ship.

“What’s on your mind, little angel?” Anakin asked softly, tilting his head to study your face. There was no judgment in his eyes, only curiosity and concern, like he was ready to carry whatever burden you were holding.

“So much happened this weekend,” you admitted after a moment, your voice thoughtful. His fingers found yours, intertwining with your open palm as his hand rested on your belly.

“Good things, I hope,” he murmured, his playful tone lighting up the stillness of the morning.

You didn’t answer immediately, the weight of everything making your chest feel tight. But when you met his gaze, the soft lines of his face, the warmth in his expression, made you feel safe enough to exhale.

“Yes,” you said at last, your voice soft but firm. “I’m just… taking stock of things. I can’t describe how happy I am to be with you, but it still feels like there’s so much ahead of us.”

“We’ll do this together,” Anakin promised, his voice steady with quiet determination. He brought your hand to his lips, pressing a kiss to your knuckles that sent warmth coursing through you. “We’ll figure everything out, one step at a time.”

A small smile broke across your face as the tension eased, replaced by the overwhelming love you felt for him.

“Now,” he said, his tone shifting to something more playful, “let’s enjoy that amazing shower one last time.”

Before you could protest, he scooped you up into his arms, carrying you bridal-style across the room. A surprised laugh escaped you, and you clung to his shoulders as he grinned down at you, his mischievous spark fully returned.

“You’re ridiculous,” you teased, giggling as he carried you into the bathroom, the sound of running water soon filling the air.

After a shared bath that lasted far longer than planned—thanks to the endless trail of kisses and caresses exchanged under the hot spray—you were finally dressed for the day. But that didn’t mean you were ready. Not for the inevitable moment where you’d have to face your best friend’s entire family after everything that had unfolded this weekend.

Speaking of him, Luke approached with an apologetic look that made you pause. The first thought that popped into your mind, unbidden, was how Skywalker men had perfected the art of looking like they were about to whine. But you shook the thought away, focusing on the present.

“Can we talk?” Luke asked, his voice calm but tinged with hesitation. His arms were clasped behind his back, a telltale sign of his nervousness.

“Okay,” you nodded, guiding him to the edge of the ship. The salty breeze tousled your hair as you leaned against the iron railing, staring out at the endless expanse of the sea.

Luke leaned beside you, quiet for a moment before sighing. “I’m sorry,” he said, the words spilling out quickly. “I completely overreacted. Seriously, what the hell was I thinking, insulting you like that?”

You glanced at him, surprised by his candidness.

“I mean,” he continued, running a hand through his hair in frustration, “it’s still kind of weird—really weird—knowing you’re with my dad. But nothing about that gave me the right to be such a jerk to you. To both of you.” He paused, his voice quieter now. “I’m sorry.”

You softened at his sincerity. “I understand you were frustrated.”

“And acting like a dick,” he added bluntly, cutting you off before you could respond.

You couldn’t help it—you burst into laughter. “That too.”

Luke smiled sheepishly, but the weight of the moment wasn’t lost on him. “You know, my parents’ marriage has been a mess for as long as I can remember. I guess part of me still held on to this dumb, idealized idea that maybe they’d fix it. Like, one big family Christmas, you know? But… honestly, a divorce probably would’ve avoided a lot of shit.” He exhaled heavily, his gaze fixed on the distant waves. “So, yeah. It’s not like I didn’t see this coming. I just… wasn’t ready to deal with it.”

You remained silent, giving him the space to work through his thoughts.

“I just…” Luke turned to you, his voice softer now. “I just want my best friend back. I know I don’t deserve it after how I acted, but you’ve always been there for me. We’ve been through so much together, and the idea of losing that? It sucks. It hurts. A lot.”

His words tugged at your heart, and you reached out to take his hand, squeezing it gently. “Well, you’re not off the hook yet. You still have to make it up to me for all the trouble you caused,” you teased, a playful smile pulling at your lips.

Luke grinned, the tension between you dissolving into something lighter. “Fair enough,” he replied, then added with a smirk, “Although, can’t I just delegate that job to my dad?”

Your jaw dropped, and you swatted his arm with a playful punch. “Idiot.”

He winced in mock pain, clutching his shoulder. “Hey, I’m fragile! Besides, I’ve already been through enough trauma—like seeing you two together. Please, I’m begging you, no kissing in front of me ever again. My therapist is already going to have a field day.”

You laughed, shaking your head. “You’re impossible.”

Luke’s grin widened, and for the first time in days, things felt normal again. It was good to have your friend back, the ease of your dynamic slipping into place as naturally as breathing.

For a few moments, the two of you simply stood there, side by side, watching the ocean stretch endlessly before you. The sound of the waves lapping against the ship’s hull filled the comfortable silence, broken only when Leia’s voice called out over the sea breeze.

“Come on, you two! Lunch is ready! And it’s the last one before we dock, so don’t miss it!”

Luke straightened, rolling his eyes but grinning all the same. “Let’s go before she starts bossing us around like mom.”

You laughed as the two of you turned and made your way toward the dining area, the weight of the past weekend finally starting to lift.

Anakin sat at the end of the table, his fingers drumming nervously against the edge of his wine glass. ▪︎ My self insert is a gem-human hybrid. I haven't decided on a specific gem type, but I want it to be pink. I'm thinking of Morganite or maybe Pink Moonstone, but I'm open to others.

▪︎ I don't know either of my parents and was actually given to a friend of my bio dad to raise since he didn't know anything about gems and was terrified of doing something wrong. My adoptive mother has a part-time job as a geologist but works in an office in a city not far from Beach City. She also was friends with Greg when they were younger (pre Rose) but lost contact after some time, so they don't know about Steven until post movie.

▪︎ Greg crosses paths with my adoptive mother some time after the movie, catch up, and both realize they have gem-human hybrid kids and decide to have them potentially meet. There may be a five year age gap, but they both hope that Steven and I could at least not feel as alone with being hybrids.

▪︎ I end up moving to Beach City due to Little Homeworld being developed to learn more about Gems and Homeworld itself to hopefully learn more about myself. Greg actually cashes in on some favors to help me get a small house for myself.

▪︎ As for meeting Blue Zircon? She was part of a group of Gems who arrived on Earth around the end of SU: Future. Why? I imagine she may have lost the election that was briefly shown in Future, and it left her unsure of what she's doing/her purpose, thus going to Earth as some last-ditch attempt.

▪︎ With that, we end up in a class or two together in Little Homeschool, and things sort of go from there.

I'd start out as an old man looking like I've just been through hell with people taking care of me changing my depends and feeding me, surviving all the aches and pains of elderly life I ease into retirement having fun traveling, camping, playing golf, enjoying all the good things in life.

When it's time to begin working. I start by receiving a gold watch. I'll move down the cooperate ladder struggling with the ups and downs of life until I get to the bottom where I'm clueless as to where this career will take me. Going into college or on the job training with the instructors begin to take my required knowledge of life with minds far superior than mine.

Transitioning into high school I'm still becoming stupid, but knowing enough to be dangerous with people much wiser than I, whom had the tolerance to put up with my nonsense, and yet I still thought I knew everything.

On my 16th birthday the government takes away my drivers license which my instructor wonders how I maintained it for so long and suddenly I become codependent on my parents.

I'm at an age that I now require a chauffeur(my parents) but yet somehow I'm still ungrateful for them running me here and there, thinking it is their duty to do so.

Continuing my spiral down the grades of my young adolescent life to the years where I'm getting into everything and not knowing any better, to crawling, getting rug burns looking for my pacifier and getting every toy out and not being responsible for picking them up.

I fall into my infant years being taken care of by people whom keep guessing what's wrong with me when I cry, they're feeding me strained food, drinking from a non-alcoholic bottle with a nipple(which I should have had in my early 20's) and with everyone pinching my cheeks saying; "how cute I am."

Finally I go into sweet innocence nursing, suckling, extracting nutrients from my mother with a diaper rash created from a colorfully toxic refried bean textured substance in my pants. Finally the time has come for me to depart, as my life is nearing it's end…

Returning to the womb and as I'm blissfully exiting life...

They would recoil in shock upon seeing this large beast suddenly appearing around the corner and barreling towards them at high speed; their instant feeling of alarm relenting somewhat upon seeing the huge grin on his face and the sincere joy in his eyes.

"Mario!!"

Before the man could react or even process this new development, he would be swept up right off the ground by two massive paws and squished in a strong bear hug, wheezing from the pressure.

"It's so good to be able to do this for once!" The creature would exclaim, happily swinging him back and forth in his crushing hold. His voice -pleasantly deep and amicable, yet unmistakably familiar- would have Mario blinking incredulously in recognition.

"Junior??" He would rasp, hardly able to breathe. The Koopa would finally release him, still smiling broadly, and it would only be then that Mario would note how strikingly similar he looks to Bowser. Behind them, Luigi and Peach would also stare in amazement.

"Can you believe it? Now I'm just like my papa!"

The prince would strike a regal pose for good measure, his merriment however dissipating rather swiftly as he would hum and join his hands in front of himself in thought; a hint of his usual self reflecting starkly in his sheepish demeanor. "Too bad it's only temporary though..."

"You- But- What- How's that possible??" Luigi would stammer out loud, visibly dumbfounded.

"I, uh... took Kamek's wand while he was asleep," Junior would say, shuffling his feet bashfully. There would be a stunned silence before he would hastily add, "B-but I made sure to put it back where I found it before anyone noticed! He usually keeps it under lock and key. I just wanted to try it, that's all! Besides, the age inducing spell only lasts about an hour, so... I'll be a kid again very soon."

His enthusiasm would deflate entirely with his statement, and Mario couldn't help but shake his head with a fond chuckle at that. Peach and Luigi would follow suit, sharing an amused look.

"What's so funny?" Junior would ask, frowning confusedly.

"You seem to think of that as a bad thing," Mario would answer. "As though this older version of you is better."

While explaining himself, he would step forward and maintain Junior's gaze, his expression warm and indulgent.

"And fair enough, it's indeed incredible... I'm looking at you and- I feel so proud. But that's only because of who you already are. Child or not, it doesn't matter. You're amazing, and I know that you have a bright future ahead of you. I'm only glad I got to see a small glimpse of it today."

Junior's astonishement would morph into deep thankfulness and delight as he would promptly embrace him again; albeit more gently this time.

"Thank you," he would murmur, giving the man a meaningful squeeze.

Mario would take a moment to marvel at how big and robust and majestic his young friend has temporarily become, openly welcoming the fantastic surrealness of the moment. As for Luigi and Peach, they would similarly admire the stark change in Junior's appearance; however knowing full well that it will only be a matter of time before they see him like this again. ^-^ 💫

I’m Gonna Level with You: I received some new today that tore me down inside. I’m currently writing to you from the restroom where I broke down. This news humbled me and the conversations I had today really made me remember who I am. It also reminded of what I am achieving not just for myself but for others as well.

Kindness doesn’t cost anything. It’s so free. Everyone in this world is going through something. Hardship is everywhere and in every category of life. I was asked, “How do you continue to keep going despite it all?” It’s the love and value I have for myself. It’s the greatness I see in others and what I wish for them to see in themselves. It’s the simplest answer I can give. While I write with tears, there’s no doubt in my mind that the future is bright. I feel it near and the potency of it all is undeniable.

I feel this for anyone who reads this. It doesn’t matter to me who you are, what you look like, what you’ve been through, other people’s opinions of you and so on…

Don’t get me wrong, all that you have been through has shaped you to this very day. However, that strength of light that cannot be dimmed, is the true you. You’ve made it this far; keep going. Don’t let your hardships define who you are. And most certainly don’t let them limit what you can do. Don’t ask me how I know but I know you are going to come out on top like never before. You’ll realize this all wasn’t for nothing.

We all need love and support. Even the ones who shine their light for others need love and support. We should always check on each other but first checking in with ourselves. Community is everything and it’s so needed more now than ever.
