RQ Maven

I wish in the RQ books they explored Maven's love for theatre, like it's so ironic how he says he loves plays and shows but then you find out his whole life is pretty much an act. I think it would be so interesting to know why he liked it too, did he like the actors ability to pretend? The chance to escape the real world? I was so surprised that VA like never mentioned it again, maybe because by the time we got to his pov so much was happening? but then Cal never mentioned it either so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So I've been getting back into Kingdom Hearts… 💖

From left to right, their names are Elara, Orion, Hinata, and Wren. Elara, Orion, and Wren are Keyblade Wielders in training. Hinata is the only one who isn't. More on these guys and more designs of their friends in the future. 💕

Her bangs are pinned back by pink hair pins and the back is tied in a white bow that looks reminiscent to cat ears. She's wearing a princess-y idol-like outfit that's pink, blue, and white and tall boots that look a bit too big on her. She's very feminine and cute.

The last is the tallest and largest of the group. A boy who has a broader body and stands over the earlier boy by a notable amount of height. His skin is light and his brows are thick. His eyes are green and his dark brown hair is messy and tied out of his face by an orange headband. He's the rougher of the group, his face and arms covered in bandages that give him a "fighter" vibe and his jacket having ripped off sleeves to make a vest. His outfit color scheme is green, orange, black, and yellow and he looks like he participates in a combat sport. His smile is friendly and he gives the air of a big softie.

Journey to the Floating Libraries of Elara

Hey, adventurers! 

Today, I’m taking you on a journey to a place that exists somewhere between reality and the dreams of every book lover: the Floating Libraries of Elara.

These libraries aren’t your typical brick-and-mortar buildings. No, on Elara, the libraries are alive. They float gracefully in the sky, drifting between the clouds like ships on an endless sea. Each island is unique, with its own architectural style that reflects the nature of the knowledge it holds. Some are grand and towering, with spires that reach toward the stars, while others are humble, nestled among lush greenery and vibrant flowers. But all of them are filled with books, scrolls, and manuscripts from every corner of the multiverse. 

I chose the Orb of Lost Legends, and before I knew it, I was standing on the Isle of Forgotten Myths. The island was covered in mist, with ancient stone pathways winding through dense forests of towering trees. The library here was a magnificent ruin, its walls covered in ivy and moss, with bookshelves that seemed to grown out of the very ground. As I explored, I found stories that had been lost to time — tales of heroes and monsters, of gods and mortals, of worlds that had long since faded from memory.

But Elara isn’t just a place for passive reading. The stories here have a life of their own. As I read through a particularly old and weather tome, the words began to glow, lifting off the page and swirly around me. Suddenly, I was no longer in the library, but in the world of the story of itself, experiencing it firsthand. I fought alongside legendary warriors, navigated treacherous landscapes, and even outwitted a few cunning tricksters along the way. 

After what felt like days — though time works differently on Elara — I returned to the Great Index, my mind buzzing with the adventures I had just lived. As I stood there, looking out at the other floating islands, I realized that Elara is more than just a repository of knowledge. It’s a living, breathing testament to the power of stories, a place where imagination is not just encouraged, but celebrated.

Until our next adventure, keep dreaming, keep exploring, and never stop seeking out the magic in the world around you.

I can think of quite a few individual lines I could comment on but for now I think I'll stick to the opening paragraphs:

Mother never liked fairytales.  Especially those I caught from Coriane.  Her enemy eternal, the neighbor she couldn’t shake, the mother of her son’s bastard brother.  I made the mistake of swiping one from her brother's collection, certain she'd applaud my swift hands and smuggler's eye.

She threw it into the river.

“Silvers have no need for fairytales.”  She’d polished a dish as though it were a blade.  “We have our history.”

A history that would’ve seen her winner of Queenstrial, disposed of Coriane before she could bear a son, and kept Tiberias alive long enough for her to reign through him.  A history long tarnished by Newblood kings, by war waged ever since the first Titanos took the throne.  The Calores had fled.  The Lakelands did not.

When you are king, you may not flee.  Mother’s words had flown from ink to paper, the journal I kept my most regal of notes.  Nor shall you make a fool of yourself on the battlefield.  Your blade will be wit, your shield careful lies, all powers balanced to bicker in your favor.

“Maven Merandus.”

There's soooo many layers to this opening, the biggest one being the irony of it all. Elara is, in many ways, telling fairytales, stories passed down from her relatives that both serve to entertain and comfort. The events she describes are not "history": they never even happened. She is performing a core tenant of fascism, imagining a mythical past she never lived and longs to return to. It's all the frivolous details of a fairytale taken dead seriously. But in many ways, she HAS to cling to it. It's a coping mechanism, escapism from the desperate reality of her life, and she can't acknowledge it as such without having to admit it likely will not happen.

Furthermore, fairytales are a symbol of childhood, one she is denying Maven with her ramblings and refusal to adapt to her circumstances. Having a childhood is, to her, weakness. She's scared that if her son ever falters or opens up someone will sweep him out from under her, and that's one of her greatest fears. I don't think she had much of a childhood herself, so to her this is just normal.

There's also the fact that Maven did a devious, petty, little wrongdoing in her name only for her to scold him for not thinking big enough. He is not enough for her, not right now, and she is determined to mold him into being so. And they're fascists, of course, but they're like . . . a pathetic kind, if that makes sense? They're very easy to make fun of, especially with Maven having "Evil Dictator Journals (tm)", bc the mere contrast between their idealized selves and their actual selves is so vast and fueled by delusion. Having him be jolted out of it by a teacher is so fucking real, he's just sitting in a classroom scribbling down his plans for world domination and fantasizing about the equivalent of those "what if the nazis won" alt history thought experiments weird dude bros love (not all but. a lot) and the teacher's like please pay attention to reality please. And him having the last name "Merandus" is just good exposition. He's such a fucking loser, it's great
