The Frolic Room was a place that I only thought existed in the Saved by the Bell universe, specifically in the College Years episodes because I’d see a big sign for it in the background of the boys’ dorm (or maybe it was Bob Golic’s room. It’s been an age since I’ve watched it, but the sign’s typeface was so notable). When I realized how close we were to it, I knew we’d have to go, so on our last night we went there as part of a crawl, and it was such a trip--I ended up chatting with an older gentleman who was a session musician who was clearly pleased to bend the ear of a younger tourist who was happy to listen to him. This is why I love great dives--you never know who you might run into and what you might learn while you’re there.

Funny thing: I’ve lived here my entire life and currently live within walking distance yet I’ve never actually been to Frolic Room. I’m gonna fix that soon.

Al Hirschfeld painted a mural on the wall of the Frolic Room back in the day. It still remains in this neighborhood bar, mostly ignored by all.

im gonna be honest i dont care that the eggs bedrooms at NINHO look super scary rn. NINHO is a nuclear bunker built for survival, and that should ALWAYS be the #1 priority when building a space meant to be safe. If it isn't safe, then it has failed as a safe space, just by definition. That SAID- gaining functionality doesn't mean they have to give up a nice room entirely. There's still ways to decorate. The space has to be different now, but remember that each room started out as a double-block layered square box. even a nuclear bunker can have paintings on the wall

Michael will handle his entire head being exploded off (then he wouldn't be able to see, hear, or talk but can think and walk around just fine) but if jack or Mike know about any little injury they're making sure he stays in bed or something because Michael WILL shrug it off and make it worse and in one case he has literally said "it's just a broken femur" and tried to walk which obviously... Not the smartest idea on his part
