i keep thinking about the polaris-chihiro roleswap au. like it's making me crazyy

the base implications of byakuya's crossdressing as polaris in the togami novel canon is to demonstrate his determination to win at any cost, even go so far as to do something as 'demeaning' as wear a dress

the most-widely accepted reason, both in the game and in fan theory, for chihiro's crossdressing was that it was to evade the shame that came with being identified as a non-masculine boy

^^ to reflect this in the au version: chihiro follows this line of thinking, but also adopted more of canon byakuya's reasoning for choosing his appearance in the togami novels. rather than adjusting his appearance to try and explain away his discomfort about being perceived as effeminate/non-masculine, he leans into an appearance to appear non-threatening and boyish -> not quite masculine enough to be taken seriously, not quite feminine enough to be ridiculed and totally shunned -> good way to get his dad's business competitors to underestimate him and let their guards down

^^ because of this, instead of canon byakuya's over-pompousness and selfishness, he takes on more of a 'sweet prince' kind of demeanor, as in being very friendly and polite and taking advantage of weaknesses that he catalogs in those around him. there is the idea in his head that he needs to constantly reassure himself and others that he is above them, both as a way to help retain the benefits of the 'pampered innocent rich boy' persona and also to eliminate any misgivings he might have regarding his own self

like canon byakuya, he's kind of twisted, but he's more subtle about it

au version: polaris's intentions with crossdressing started very much the same as the togami novel canon and maybe even with the reasoning given for canon chihiro's crossdressing - a method to protect herself from people who would have regarded her differently as a male - but she got comfortable in it and withdrew from the heir competition because of it, while also trying to hide that reason

looking only at canon chihiro's dialogue about herself in regards to the chapter 2 motive, there's no clear indication that she's referring to the need to 'become comfortable being a boy', and moreso the indication that she needs to become stronger/more self-confident in preparation of being outed by monokuma, so that when she starts getting attacked for 'being a boy', she can defend herself (shoutout to @/rainbow-crane and this post for this analysis!! highly recommend reading)

with regards to this in the au version: polaris, though really enjoying life more as polaris polanski vs. as byakuya togami, might conflate the worry of being outed with being discovered by the togami family - like the idea of 'i moved out of my parents house and socially transitioned without telling them and i really dont want to deal with it if anyone outs me to them' but coupled with the fact the parents are extremely rich and powerful and don't take well to shame being brought upon their name...her paranoia is justified

^^^ as it is, she's slightly different from canon chihiro. she wouldn't be fine with being outed to her classmates, per se, but if it happened she's confident that she'd be able to handle it (and if you consider how far she got in the competition before willingly dropping out, the reasoning for her confidence is clear). however, the main concern is if people were to find out who she was related to, and if that information were to find itself back to the togami cong.

^^ also bc of that. she does this weird mix of catty rudeness coupled with genuine good intentions. like she can act as self-absorbed and superior as byakuya does in canon, but is much more willing to take initiative to help others. a weird combination of refraining of letting people get too close while also understanding the importance of community and group work (and also showing off) - she'll often see herself as a keystone in any given operation

like canon chihiro, she ultimately just wants to be able to get along with her peers without worry

transfem scott getting lots of support from ramona and kim in the early 2000's when shit's very taboo but they all 3 have a fire forged bond and lord if they aren't going to make sure they're all as happy as they can be because they've come this far and I dunno it just makes me happy all three of them

Like I've said before. General Trans Scott enthusiast here- I love the idea of their little support network *violent coughing* I (we?) mean polycule *violent coughing* so fucking much.

Ramona I think has a bit of a more gentle hand with reassuring Scott with gender issues, but sometimes she just can't help herself from some pointed banter or teasing- how could you with someone so dense? (Said w affection)

And then Kim I think is more blunt. But like, in a good way mostly, you know? The kinda blunt that makes you snap to attention and go "Oh. Yeah that was silly of me." And if Ramona's started some sort of banter? Kim is SO piling on. Maybe sometimes she's a bit TOO blunt with it- but it's only because she's so firm in her support. She wants Scott to Get It Together- and be happier for it. So if some ribbing now and again is in order, then goddamnit she will do so! Anything to crack that shell.

And ohhh can you imagine how they would react to some transphobic bullshit?? Unholy terror would be driven into the offender before they walk off with an absurd amount of coins between them. I can feel it in my bones. Scott doesn't even have to lift a finger (if the transphobe is even noticed/processed at all, bc I honestly can see Scott just. Not realizing someone's being transphobic.) Kim giving someone a lashing with her tongue as distraction and then Ramona coming in with the hammer- BAM! Free Money! Paying literally with your life for your transphobia. A Better And Just World.

And of course (transfem Scott more specifically, here,) the way Scott would start to flourish under their support... cagey and maybe a little (perhaps a lot-) resistant to start- but Kim's blunt affirmations and no nonsense attitude for bullshit (which is what Scott insisting on "being cis" would be, c'mon now,) and Ramona's also low bullshit tolerance but less Stabby (bc I won't lie, that's probably how Kim's comments would feel,) assurances? Ough... My Heart... Be Still-

Published the first chapter of my SniperScout Time Loop AU on AO3!

Summary

Working under RED can be repetitive at times - but nothing like this. After a curse is fired his way, Scout is forced to live through the same day over and over and over again. It should be easy for someone as perfect as Scout to break the curse, right? As long as he doesn't have to confront the things he's been feeling towards Sniper it should be a piece of cake!

“Well, that’s fucked,” Jamie said, and Roy schooled his expression, nodded, braced for whatever came next. Wondered if he should hug him again, if it’d only remind him of a different set of hands. “Reckon you can balance on the back of my bike, coach?” Jamie waved a hand in front of his face. “Roy?”   “Yeah,” he said, vaguely. “Sound!” The lad bounced away to where he’d left his own bike a handful of meters down the path. Was he supposed to bring it up again? Wait for Jamie to say something? They hadn’t talked about Wembley, afterwards, but now he wished they had, if only so he’d have some sort of blueprint. Jamie glided back over, one foot on the bike pedal, the other dangling out into the air in a way that was probably forbidden somewhere in his contract. “You can sit on the rack, yeah?” He held the bike steady. Roy climbed on, because what the fuck else could he do? They were in the middle of some random park in Amsterdam with his fucked bike and fucked knee and he needed to get Jamie somewhere safe and quiet and indoors before it all caught up to him — he’d been spacey and unreactive in the Wembley dressing room; stood there swaying in his kit while Roy maneuvered him into a jacket and shoes, herded him out to the bus without bothering with the shower. He couldn’t ask Jamie to navigate them back to the hotel in that state. “Hold on, coach!” Jamie said, craning over his shoulder. Tentatively, Roy wrapped his arms around his waist, waiting for him to flinch or shy away, but he just made an impatient noise and grabbed at Roy’s wrists to hasten the process. They set off.

It’s grey, when the angel becomes aware of his surroundings.

Not a cold sort-of grey, but something deeply warm; something like the edges of sleep when one is wrapped in a soft blanket and nicely sated from a hearty meal and tucked into the side of someone you love.

Still.

Grey.

“Oh, it worked,” he says, even as he does not quite remember what worked.

He frowns, trying to go back to the last thing he remembers so that he might recall what brought him here, but finds there is something much like a fog in his brain.

Not impassable, perhaps, but something that screams of danger. Perhaps it would be better if he left those memories right where they were.

“Yes,” he tells himself, his voice filling a much smaller space than the whole of the grey. “I am sure someone shall come for me.”

As he says it, it settles in his bones like a home truth. There is someone out there who will come and find him – in fact, the angel is fairly sure that him being rescued is the sort of thing that happens a lot.

“Well,” he says, settling himself down so that he might feel the very beating heart of this grey purgatory he has found himself in, “that’s alright then.”

Chapter 15 of Stone was posted about a week ago, but naturally i failed to mention it here. Plugging along with the little post-s1 recovery story that could. Divorced from everything that happened after s1 and therefore spoiler-free.

“What you must think of me,” Tissaia muses after several long minutes of silence, surprising even herself with the words. She will blame exhaustion for this sudden vulnerability. There is little of her Yennefer has not seen anyway—what is one more wayward thought? For a moment, she is left alone in this consideration. And then, with a pragmatism that belies the impossible tenderness behind her voice, Yennefer replies: “I think you deserve to rest.”
