#the fanfics are the best thing to come from mha

honestly, i think one of my biggest issues with my hero is how horikoshi is really good at setting things up, but fails in the execution of basically anything and everything. especially when everyone wants to see it prosper.

a world where everyone has quirks, except for our main character, who strives to be a hero despite that

the number two hero is anything but when behind closed doors.

the number one hero comes off as endlessly joyful, yet is more tired than anything

a world where your worth is based on your quirk

a world that is so obssessed with heroes that hidden crimes are just forgotten

a boy who was so hurt that he could only hurt in turn

a girl who was so restricted that she can't understand personal space

a boy who was neglected for being weak so he strives to become stronger and in turn only hurts himself more

a boy hated simply for looking different so he rejects the world for the world rejects him

and a boy hurt by everyone around him, but uses that to make the world a kinder place.

all of this is present within mha, but none of it is expanded on, or if it was, it felt like lip-service at best, and downright insulting at worst.

the powerless mc gets an incredibly powerful quirk and forgets he was ever quirkless.

the number two hero is abusive but it's totally okay because he regrets it and his abusive scenes are treated lightly later on

the number one hero goes back to his old ways when he finally gets a chance to be himself

there is no commentary on quirkless discrimination, and we barely see the impacts of having a 'weak' quirk

hidden crimes are explored, but there isn't anything regarding how the future generation will solve this issue

that boy who could only hurt after he was hurt so much? yeah he dies despite the mc wanting to save him so desperately, and there is no satisfaction in it. because he still didn't want to be saved

that girl who was so restricted that she couldn't understand personal space and boundaries? yeah, she never learns what they are, and nobody directly calls her out on this

that boy who was so neglected for being weak and only hurts himself the stronger he strives to become? well, it's actually his fault because he couldn't forgive his abusive father. his misplaced envy towards his abused brother is never delved into

that boy who rejected the world that hated him for being born? yeah, he's never shown any kindness from the people who should be showing it. instead, he's taken down while he's lost his mind and becomes a massive hypocrite

that boy who was hurt by everyone around him yet still wants to save others? yeah, he's still being hurt by everyone around him and is never praised for helping people, only scolded by others. he loses everything and isn't even allowed to work for it again.

the set-up for everything is so good, but the pay-off and the execution is just not.

i feel like horikoshi was winging it half of the time, hence why he forgot about the traitor plot point. something fans were speculating about for years, horikoshi just forgot. it's like - he set it up as early as the usj, forgot to build up aoyama's character, and speedran it. because of this, it didn't feel earned.

'you can still be a hero,' does not feel earned at all. why should we care about aoyama when the creator himself doesn't? the traitor could have been anyone, and it wouldn't have changed a thing, because the set-up was gone. by the time he'd remembered there was a traitor, everyone else forgot about it.

the same goes for the deaths.

i've seen people commend mha for killing people off, but, the things is, do we really care about who was killed off?

nighteye? he was a dick, and it was clear horikoshi was trying to do a whole 'redemption in death' thing, but let's be honest. we only care about the impact it had on mirio, which wasn't even much. it could have been anyone. nighteye surviving wouldn't have changed anything.

midnight? we did not spend nearly enough time with her to give two shits about her death. maybe if she were 1-a's homeroom teacher, as was originally planned, it may have meant more. as it was, who cared? she didn't even die on-screen. it could have been anyone.

native? i don't even need to explain. nobody cared.

star and stripe? did anyone really get attached to female all might? no, because there were no dimensions to her.

stain? what did his death serve? what would have changed if he survived? nothing

like, if you kill someone off, it has to mean something. what was learned by nighteye's death? heroes die? we learned that ages ago with the water hose heroes, and with stain's mini-arc. maybe it was to show, yeah, we're not afraid of killing people off.

but it didn't mean anything! at least have nighteye learn something. make it a proper tragedy - maybe he wants to apologise to all might but all might arrives too late. maybe he finally acknowledges that it was never his right to dictate who gets ofa and really apologises to izuku. maybe he can't even say goodbye to mirio.

maybe, in trying to do something, his sacrifice means nothing... until, when he's already dead, it's revealed that it did.

killing a character off to show how serious you're getting is fine... if it weren't already clear that it was serious.

people say killing off so many was mha being realistic, but they don't understand two things.

one: if you want to be realistic, kill someone off in the usj, because a bunch of kids just starting school should not be able to hold off against actual villain. if you want to be realistic, have the kids be shoved into counselling after the usj. if you want to be realistic, have aizawa die against the noumu. that's realistic

two: NOBODY GOES TO ANIME FOR REALISM!! seriously, if you want realism, go watch an indie movie or something. not anime, where everything is drawn and people have superpowers and tripping over means you accidentally grope someone.

the thing about killing characters off is that it has to mean something to both the characters and the audience. if we do not care if a character dies, it does not need to be there.

example: (spoilers for one piece ig) whitebeard from one piece. even now, people still quote his dying message. 'the one piece is real'. both this line and his death have a massive impact in-universe, and we the audienced cared, despite the relatively short time we go to know him. his death actually mattered. had whitebeard not died in marineford, i guarantee that nothing would be the same.

fishman island wouldn't have been taken over by big mom. marco and izou would not have appeared in wano, or if they did, the entire whitebeard alliance would have shown up too. there would still be a balance in the emperors. sengoku would not have retired.

there are ripple effects from whitebeard's death, and everyone one piece fan still remembers it clearly. and the same goes for every other death in one piece: ace, bellemere, kuina, hiriluk, tom, the rumbar pirates, rojer. every death had its meaning and affects either the world as a whole or specific characters who would go onto impact the world anyway.

mha just doesn't let you care about the characters it kills off, nor do their deaths have meaning, because there isn't a pay-off.

the set-up is there. the pay-off is not.

and that, guys, gals, and nonbinary pals, is my biggest issue with mha. horikoshi's execution.

Just when he thinks he couldn't possibly find you more adorable, you strike a match and chuck it into his heart with a touch as simple as a peck on his cheek, a laugh thrown his way... or -like now- when you chat over the phone in an accent he never gets to hear. He wants to hear more so badly, and asks for it so sweetly.

A/N: a short n'sweet one today, folks, bc I was missing writing for this sweet green bean. I have yet to see MHA: You're Next, but have no one to see it with ughhhhh so off to writing fanfic to soothe the pain~

You're on the phone with your mom when Izuku finds your sticky note for shopping on the fridge. His mindful shut of the door was appreciated by your mouthed apology, but let him know that he'd best occupy himself solo for a bit while you catch up. The time difference between your home country and here leaves your windows to chat limited, so he’s happy when your schedules align like this. 

If you'll be on a while longer, he thinks he can take a quick drive and pick up these few things for you. Inspired by the idea, he plucks the list out from the magnet’s hold.

You've got nice handwriting, a blend between printed letters and a tilted, cursive script. Personality shines especially near the end of a word, when you're rushing to move onto the next thought.

It's so simple, but when it's written in your native language by default, it feels like a secret to be reading even something so simple as a list like this– scribbled out in the way as it appears in your head.

For most formal paperwork, your kana characters are decently executed, though it's always going to be harder when you grew up speaking Japanese rather than filling out lines and lines of bellwork in the kanji style. This isn't to say you've not been trying:

Over the course of your courtship, you've bonded with young Eri as an extension of Izuku's life and have inherited some of her early learning textbooks. You happened on them by accident, when you were helping her paint her room a few months ago. It sounded elementary when you expressed the interest to read and write Japanese better, and the sweet girl was so enthusiastic to help! 

She lent you her books, but of course you weren't becoming an expert overnight. However slow you’d pace yourself, Izuku was plenty proud of you for making the effort. He'd allow you as much grace as he could spare– especially since your notes were still so cute to find here and there~

Across the room, pacing along every other tile on the floor like stepping stones, you look up catching Izuku staring. You’ve been deep in conversation for only about an hour, but give him a wrench of your nose in jest, and begin wrapping up the call explaining that he’s home and you’d like to greet him properly. 

Izuku calls out a quick 'hi’ and ‘bye' to your mom when he motions to go on speaker; you're not one to refuse him, as he well knows. 

You seem pleased on more than one front when he asks to talk to your family, so he continues to do it. For one, you’re touched by how spirited he is to even want to interact with your mother, and his dropping of formalities and reverting to English to speak to her means a lot to you. Neither point is lost on sweet Izuku, based on how your smile brightens when he jogs over to you to be more in speaking range. 

When you hang up, you're quick to pop up and kiss him as a welcome home. Izuku hangs onto you a little longer than usual, thumb rubbing into your cheek as he savors you several times in quick succession. 

Just when he thinks he couldn't possibly find you more adorable, you strike a match and chuck it into his heart with a touch as simple as a peck on his cheek or a laugh thrown his way. 

“‘Zuku, what's that look for, babe?” 

In your sentimental bliss, you're still surprised to get such adoring treatment from him almost a year into a relationship. 

“Nothing,” Izuku chimes back, “I just forget that you're this American sometimes~”

“Whaddya mean, ‘you forget’?!” the concept sounds hilarious to you. 

“I do!” Izuku offers to take your phone to plug it in nearby, “I have to remind myself that Japanese isn't your first language, until I see you on FaceTime with your mom. Out of nowhere, I'll just hear you sound so different, like: ‘byyyye~ talk to y'all later’!”

You snort at his attempt at a southern accent– stiff and stuck on the wrong vowels. Clearly this succeeds in amusing you, because you hop up and down on the balls of your feet like you've discovered a new game:

“Oh my God, ‘Texas Smash Deku’ is the stuff of my fantasies!– oo!! say, ‘I’d like a honey butter chicken biscuit’~”

“WHAT?? N-no!!”

“What YES!! Please??”

Both doubled over in laughter, you're entertained over his thorough embarrassment, but you're both smitten and carefree: holding onto each other despite nearly buckling at the knees.

Izuku tries his best to catch his breathe first, determined to explain himself,

“I can't do it right! It's like- you say things- I don't know how to describe it! It's not just the flat, movie star accent.. It's–"

“What, a-- ‘drawl’? ‘Twang’?”

Izuku snaps at the realization.

“Yes!! That!! The country kind, like that chef you watch!”

You've rolled your eyes, stepping out of his kind hold in favor of checking out what takeout he brought home. 

“-Hey, no, come back!”

“‘Makin’ fun'ah my accent, I outta smack you’.”

You're far from really mad as you tote around the kitchen getting silverware and soy sauce, but Izuku follows you around like a shadow regardless. Eyes full of that puppy love, he does try to block you in from the pantry closet,

“I’m sorry, honey~”

“No you're not.” --but you're grinning out of forgiveness anyway.

Izuku sneaks a hold on you, reeling you in. It’s cozy in your shared kitchen, alight with just the right amount of overhead lighting and enough space for you two to stand and share tasks.

“I do like hearing you talk like that,” he shares contentedly, “It’s nice to listen to that side of you, especially when you have a lot to say.”

“Yeah well,” you turn into his arms, rather than away, “I'm sure you've noticed already, it comes from her side of the family. Guess I can't really ditch the accent whenever I switch back. The more I think about it… I'm gonna be happy if I can keep sounding like her as I get older. Lets me keep something of hers- even if my ‘dashing hero’ of a man over here thinks I'm being cheeky."

“No, I'm not teasing now! I mean it,” Izuku presses into you, “I only meant, you don't hold back or anything when you're chatty with her.”

He wonders if it stems from shyness, your avoidance of using too much English here at home. If you’re jamming out while doing chores -presuming you’re alone- you’ll switch the station once you know you have an audience.

“Not trying to hide it with you! I'm just out of practice here. No one else in our circle really uses English, so it doesn't come up, I guess.”

You make the point with a wistful aire. Occasionally you'll sub English classes as a favor to Izuku’s effervescent coworker at UA, but not often enough to get too much exposure. He's always been impressed with your Japanese diction, and thinks you could very well go into teaching if you ever wanted a career change.

Still, whether its for work or play, it’s a sound that’s intrinsically you, and there’s a magic to it that Izuku finds himself chasing. A secret power of yours, if he could only unlock it.

“--Plus, I don't think a lot of the slang translates over?” you get comfortable in his arms, locking your fingers behind his neck with no intention of leaving as you muse, “You guys have your own here, and that’s hard to figure out anyway.”

“I suppose you’re right.” 

Tenderly, you run your nails through his hair, a thoughtful look up to him, 

“Do you want me to use it more at home? Lay on the sugar for ya?”

A chance to hear you at your core? Watch your handwritten notes come alive?

“If you want-” Izuku softens, “-if you’re comfortable.”

“Can you understand me though?”

“I can hear you. It only gets hard when you get excited, ‘cuz you talk fast.”

You fuss back at him, “Oh, as if you don't.”

Caught under your hypocritical eye, he can only offer an honest chuckle back, “Fair~”

But for all of your feeling put on the spotlight, you seem to hold a soft spot for the way Izuku makes his requests:

“ ‘I guess I can indulge ya, since you asked so nicely.’ ”

–and it’s enough for him to try his hand to give you a linguistic sparring partner right back:

“ ‘Say something else.’ ”

All English flies out the window when he's looking at you like this, as you fall under a fit of nervous laughter, “What am I supposed to say?!” 

“ ‘Sing me a song, my love. Something 'twangy'.”

You giggled, "'Twangy', good Lord…” 

Izuku could write novels on everything from your finest features to even your most pensive insecurities, romanticizing each of them into a beautifully imperfect anthology. He does so in his mind, at least, when you’re barely lucid on the edge of sleep but still trying to engage him in meaningful conversation. He’ll do so in the notes on his phone, when he learns of yet another favorite token of yours, and wants to add it to the list of comfort measures he can refer to when you need it most.

And when you prompt Alexa to play your newly revealed ‘Karaoke hours that will never see the light of day’ playlist -the one that’s chock-full of female power ballads which you begin to sing your own rendition to-  Izuku is certain his mind nor fingers nor heart can catalog how much more he can possibly love you… though he’ll dance in place with you as he listens and soaks it all in.

• as i said before, i recommend reading the first two since there is references from those! also, these headcanons are just things i imagine about the characters, especially since i use these thoughts for a fanfic i write!

+ tetsutetsu has one of those hot dad bods; like his arms are huge and big, obvious he works out, but his stomach? its a lil rounder, flat. no defined abs. he gives the best cuddles no doubt

+ shoto does monotype runs on his pokemon games

+ shoto also plays pokerogue. he gets frustrated when he cant beat it

+ izuku trades pokemon with shoto to help him complete the pokedex

+ tetsutetsu admires neito secretly, but will never admit it so he doesnt boost the boys pride more

+ pony and tsuyu hang out a lot, and sometimes rikido hangs out with them

+ mina loves horror movies even though they scare the shit out of her

+ sir nighteye dressed up as a disney princess to play with eri once he recovered from the shie hassaikai arc (hes alive in my headcanons shhh)

+ sir nighteye despises the smell of alcohol, so much that he refuses to go to any parties that have alcohol (which is almost all of the ones he is invited too. he never goes out)

+ tsuyu comes from a pretty well off family. not as rich as momo, but she has more money than most people

+ mezo can fly. like, he flaps his arms and theres enough pressure to get that man flying. however, it makes him tired since hes a big boy so he tries not to fly

+ mezo has a very big sweet tooth himself actually. he loves mochi especially

+ denki cosplays during his free time. It is expensive but his parents make decent enough money to support his hobby

+ denki does own a maid outfit, he cosplayed a maid from his favorite anime once

+ best jeanist thinks of katsuki as the son he never had

+ best jeanist crafts baggy jeans and makes katsuki wear them, so he has some style

+ neito has ocd

+ neito is also a clean freak. as in, he hates getting dirty unless it his for hero work. even then, he acts all disgusted and dramatic about it

+ koda loves running through grassy fields

+ koda wants to dance in the rain with somebody

Even if your interpretation of the villains ending is correct i believe it is not unrealistic to think that Hori could have done a better job at it? I mean we never saw what happened to Togas body but she died according to Uraraka and Dabi was put inside the alien pod thingy only to die too later for Endeavors character storylines sake. He did apologize to Shouto i guess but no one seemed to have heard him. Shigaraki was the only one with some actual ending for his character arc i think.

I don't think I ever said anything about MHA's ending being exempt from criticism or that it was written perfectly. Pretty sure I made space for the fact that the writing suffered from several setbacks. But that's not what I was responding to. And I do think it's a little unfair to be so hard on Horikoshi when we all know he's been breaking his back for ten years and has been on an absolutely insane writing schedule. Could it have been better? Yeah, it could have. But most things in general could have. Am I personally offended Horikoshi had to take some shortcuts at the end? No. I'm just mildly disappointed with some of the final product, but I still received the message he was trying to convey and enjoyed things overall, and I think Horikoshi did a much better job than a lot of people have in his same situation, and he deserves praise for it.

Now, do I agree the writing suffered in the same ways you seem to think? I don't know. I personally don't see what knowing what happened to Toga's body would've achieved (honestly it would've seemed like a morbid fascination and objectification for it to be depicted in-frame more than it had been, and I'm sure the internet fandom would've jumped all over that--plus this way her ending is open-ended enough for her to come back to life in fanfic should someone wish to write such a thing). I don't see why you would say Dabi died for Endeavor's character? If anything, he died for Shouto's character. But I also don't see how you can say that when Dabi spent so much of his on-screen time devoted to his own destruction and pretty blatantly toward the end there. It was a key part of his story--his purposeful march towards his chosen fate and how right at the end he regretted it and was granted reprieve to tie up loose ends. And what do you mean no one heard his apology? We have no reason to believe that when everyone heard everything else he said, and we're not shown anyone else in the room somehow missing that. But even if they did, Shouto's the only one who needs to hear it anyways, and if he didn't hear it I'm sure he knows it inside. I don't believe Horikoshi needs to depict absolutely every second of a moment for us to know it happened and for it to be good writing. Implication is a powerful art in writing, and the open-ended nature of the epilogue gives us permission to assume the best when we want to know how something turned out.

Hey again! I've returned with another fanfic request :D

So, I've been rewatching mha, and I got to the kidnapping part, and that got me thinking for fic ideas!

The reader ended up getting kidnapped by the league (along with bakugo), and the rescue team went after them (all like in the anime). Could you do shoto's reaction to all of that and the Aftermath once they're all living in the dorms? It could be really sweet and fluffy with a little bit of angst (flashbacks from shoto's pov??)

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, I adore all of your work, and I will support you till the day I die!!

Shoto rescues you from the League of Villains.

Shoto sat on the train, his mind haunted by the last time he saw you. The League of Villains had kidnapped you along with Katuski, your face was painted with terror when they pulled you into the wrap gate. The rest of your classmates being unable to reach you or Katsuki in time.

"Hey man, don't look so worried. We will get them back." Eijiro spoke, sitting next to Shoto on the train. A few of your classmates had devised a plan to sneak out and try to rescue you and Katsuki.

"I know we'll try our best," Shoto said, looking out the window of the train, his expression reflected in the window giving Eijiro a mirrored image of his distress.

"I'm sure they are doing fine, they are tough. Plus Bakugo's there too and you know firsthand how strong he is," Eijiro said, still trying to soothe Shoto.

However, at Bakugo's name, Shoto's face gave a wince.

"Yeah," he replied.

Eijro's face fell a bit realizing he wasn't helping much at easing his friend's worries. The only thing stopping him from trying again was Momo going over a rescue plan with everyone on the train.

Shoto and the other students who had come on the secret rescue mission followed Momo's proposed plan. Even as far as disguising themselves in ridiculous outfits. Momo's plan included following her tracker that she had placed on one of the villains to check out and see if you or Katsuki were there or any other information leading to your whereabouts.

Following Momo's tracker had led them to a building just outside of town. Eijiro had come prepared with night vision goggles, allowing them all to get a better look inside the building. However, this only revealed the location of several stowed Nomo. You and Katsuki were nowhere in sight.

The next occurrence left all of your classmates shaking and paralyzed with fear. The villain All For One appeared just meters away from where everyone was hiding. Soon followed by the other League of Villains members, Katsuki, and you.

Not soon after All Might had appeared on the scene and began battling with All For One. Shoto and the rest of the classmates that came were frozen with fear, unable to move. While each of them knew something had to be done, it was unclear as to what.

Seeing Shoto's visceral reaction and instinctive drive to go to you, Tenya grabbed his arm and held him back. Tenya knew it was too dangerous to move in without a plan. Luckily Midoriya, like always, devised a plan that allowed for him, Eijiro, and Tenya to make it across the battlefield and rescue Katuki. This distraction leaving the villain dumbfounded watching their escape through the sky gave Shoto the perfect opening to call for you.

Stunned at seeing your classmates fly through the sky like a shooting star giving Katskui an escape, you almost missed Shoto calling for you to join him and Momo down the alleyway.

You ran to him quickly once you realized.

"This way!" Shoto yelled at you.

You ran to him and Shoto roughly grabbed your wrist, pulling you to run. The three of you ran until you were sure you were far enough away from the villains. You all stopped at the commotion in town watching the news broadcast of the fight. Your adrenaline began to run off after you were safe and you looked down to realize Shoto was still holding onto your wrist.

"Oh sorry," he said, noticing and letting go. A blush might have made its way to your face if you weren't so overwhelmed with the situation.

The rest of the events went by in a blur. Now you found yourself carrying your belongings inside the UA common room seeing the news broadcast replay in your mind. You all watched All Might take down One For All on the news broadcast in town that night before making it back to your homes safely. A few days later Aizawa made an appearance at your home proposing all the students move into dorms to keep them safe.

It took some convincing but you finally were here moving your things to your dorm room.

"That looks heavy, do you want help?" You heard a voice call. You turned around to see Shoto placing his own belongings on the floor.

"Uh sure," You responded, and Shoto picked up your oversized box of belongings. "Lead the way."

You walked with Shoto to the elevator pressing your floor level on the elevator.

"How have you been fleeing?" He asked as the elevator started its ascent.

"Ok, happy to be here at UA again," You said trying to keep a joyful smile. The truth was you had been having nightmares every night about the incident.

"Well, I'm happy you are safe and in good health," He responded.

The elevator door opened and you both stepped out as you led Shoto to your dorm.

"It's this one," You said, opening the door.

"If there are any other heavy boxes don't be afraid to come get me," He said, dropping the box on the floor.

"Thank you, I appreciate it... and um... thank you for coming to rescue me that night. I never did get a chance to tell you that," You replied.

"Of course, I was only able to because of Yaoyorozu. Back at the summer camp, she placed a tracker on one of the villains," Shoto explained.

"Oh," You exclaimed, feeling our stomach turn a bit at the sound of Shoto mentioning her name. "I'll be sure to thank her too," You said looking at the floor.

Shoto nodded, "You have been doing okay since then though? I know that must have been pretty traumatic being being kidnapped by villains," Shoto said, a worried expression plaguing his face.

"I'm fine, don't worry. Besides, it was hard to be scared with all of Bakugo's yelling about how he was going to murder every last one of them," You laughed and tried to brush off Shoto's concern.

Shoto having his own reaction to you mentioning Katsuki averted his gaze from you, "Right... well, let me know if you need any more help." He said as he made his way out of your room.

"Todoroki wait!" You called as he stepped into the hallway. Shoto turned back around with a curious look on his face.

"Um.. thank you again," You nervously spat out as you hurriedly stepped forward to wrap your arms around him bringing him into a hug. Your face buried in Shoto's chest kept you from seeing the bright red shade his face turned as he awkwardly wrapped his arms around you for just a moment before pulling away.

"Of course," he responded, voice deviating ever so silently from his usual cool tone. "Good luck with the rest of moving, don't over-exert yourself." He said as a soft smile spread on his lips before he swiftly exited unsure of how to process your sudden affection.

Listen...I detest spinner now thanks to hori's canon. No hate to anyone who likes him and yes you can fix spinner in fics and arts...but to me, I see him as a raving and fanatical fan of shig who ....honestly didn't give a fuck about spinner...it was so oneside.

Not much filled me with anger quite like watching Bakugou get fangirls for existing and being his detestable self - and Izuku getting none.

There's also Spinner venting his rage at Izuku for Shigaraki's death (Izuku, who tried his very best to save Shig). Spinner's rage should be at All For One - not Izuku. So this was pretty rage inducing as well - considering this is in the same chapter Bkg and Todoroki get fangirls, the contrast is jarring. - And a spit in the face for Izuku from Hori once again.

Izuku owes none of the LOV, not even Shig in canon, a damn thing. If Izuku had decided to kill him (which he didn't), he would have been justified because Shig was a country ending threat with decay and AFO who was not gonna back down!

There's also the fact that Spinner is a hypocrite, turning around and calling Shoji a mutant slur when he has apparently been discriminated against himself.

Spinner for the love of God, sit down and shut up.

Also, I suppose that's one good thing to come from the state of MHA's writing now. I'm glad you are feeling proud in your own writing - as you should.

MHA Chapter 1

I had a lot more to say about this chapter than I thought, so I'll see how it affects posting.

CHAPTER 1 --

In which the literal first appearance of Izuku is him trying to save someone, and Katsuki's being him bullying some random kid (and Izuku of course). I think this chapter sets the theme of the story well, if only it stuck to it. People being born unfair is a theme we seemingly lose straight after Izuku gets All Might's quirk, which is really unfortunate.

Something else I really like is how Chapter 1 sets up society as well; an attack from a villain, at least in this part of the city, is little more than a minor inconvenience. Regardless of the reasons why, this is striking because in most hero media, civilians are only there to be saved and when they are, they end up evacuating quickly.

In MHA, however, civilians stop and gawk; seeing a hero is only a little bit less important than seeing a celebrity walking down the street. Civilians at this point in time are so sure that heroes can stop the villains, are so secure in the knowledge that heroes can never let them down, that they walk up to the fight and have to be held off by other heroes and the police.

Wild.

Another thing is just how much force this random villain gets hit with for... stealing a purse? Well. I think from now I'll save all my social commentary for when the story talks about it, because I do have a lot of thoughts.

I'll put this one on this post though, because I'm not sure if the story comments on it: to be honest, encouraging kids to be heroes is really reckless, especially considering the amount of danger it puts them in! I guess it's to be expected, though. Who wouldn't want to be a hero? Only really people who like to be contrary, to be honest.

U.A. is NOT beating the child soldier allegations.

U.A. is always touted as a really important school, but I think we see it best in the way the students react to the idea of Katsuki applying for it: with shock, and then an outburst. I think U.A. is a little lackluster when it comes to magical schools, but in-universe it's obviously very important.

This chapter also shows how much Katsuki values quirks. He sees everyone else as lesser than him because of their "shitty quirks", and Izuku as well, a Deku, a nobody, because he has none. Honestly, it makes reading fanfics a little hard, because his viewpoint on this is literally in Chapter 1. Maybe it gets retconned, though. We'll see.

I've seen some fanon interpretations that make Bakugou's lackeys Izuku's bullies, but they seem pretty reserved and more just like, followers in Chapter 1. I can understand why people do this - a lot of Early Bakugou's actions are horrible to straight up near irredeemable (cough cough swan dive), and it's easier to stomach his redemption arc when he didn't do those certain things.

Off topic though. This isn't a Bakugou hate post.

The All Might rooftop scene is one of the things many people bash on him for. But I can see where he's coming from. First of all, it's very possible he's just repeating what he was told as a child, and just like with Izuku, it's also possible that being offered OFA by Nana only solidified the thought that "Quirkless people can't be heroes."

Maybe it's just the way he grew up. We know he grew up in an era when crime was rampant, and it's very likely that people who didn't have combat-oriented quirks just... didn't make it. I can't think of any older heroes we see in the series besides Recovery Girl that both are alive and don't have combat quirks.

Even if All Might was in the wrong, to me, he immediately redeems himself by believing in Izuku afterwards, and helping him train. He doesn't write off Izuku saving Bakugou as recklessness, he sees it for what it is; budding heroism. At least that you can respect.

(I should mention: I see a lot of All Might bashing, but I really love All Might. In that respect, I'll probably be more than a little biased, because I hate seeing All Might get bashed for making mistakes! Why does he have to be a static perfect character for people to not hate him... sigh)

I also see lots of criticism for the heroes in this scene! For Mount Lady... yeah, she's kind of wrong here. She can't get into the lane without causing property damage - why can't she just, not use her quirk? I guess it's just societal shit. Beyond her gigantification, she's basically fighting quirkless, which can be where her hangup is.

"But Izuku did it -" not really! He shocks the slime guy, sure, but who knows how long it'd last? Maybe I'm missing something, but it definitely seems like All Might's wind was their savior here. Reinforcing the idea that they did need "someone with the right quirk".

The other two seem reasonable to me. Kamui would get severely injured trying to help, and it's important to make sure those fires don't spread. Death Arms and the guy behind him are just straight useless though. Especially since he can't even do his job of making sure people don't run directly into the fight.

We see him doing it earlier too, so maybe that's just his job. Who knows. Combat heroes, rescue heroes, and border control.

I used to agree with this one stance that ragged on Izuku for only rushing in when he saw Katsuki's face - aka, someone close to him. But reading now, I think I understand what really happened: seeing Katsuki's expression, not his face (i.e. who he was), was what got Izuku.

Izuku sees Katsuki as proud; seeing that fear spurred him on. In that moment, all the pain Izuku endured; it doesn't matter.

"You looked like you needed saving."

More than likely, that doesn't just go for Katsuki. We see him demonstrate this over and over later in the series (i.e. Eri and Kota) so the principal here is - Izuku saw his face, and he moved, because Katsuki needed saving.

More points in favor of All Might's case. He recognizes his failings and goes straight to Izuku to rectify it.

At first I thought this post would be for chapters 1-10, then the chapters up to the U.A. entrance exam, but I just couldn't shut up. So here you go. See you again next Wednesday, I think? Thanks for reading!

I tried to come up with my own designs for Sonic parents!

Info about them in order.

Amy's Parents.

I like to think that Amy gets baking and gardening as hobbies from her parents, her mom is a baker and her dad is a gardener.

Amy probably has the best relationship with her parents out of all of these characters, but she still buts heads with them often. She loves her parents and her parents love her but they still disagree on a lot of things. Mostly about how Amy has chosen to live her life and how she presents herself.

Most of all, Emi and Adam strongly disapprove of Amy's decision to become a hero and associate herself with Sonic. They believe that by doing those things she's putting her life in danger, which is technically true. They're just worried for her, but in doing so they disregard Amy's feelings and are running their relationship with her, but they don't seem to realize it.

Tail's parents.

These designs are inspired by the Archie designs because I'm lazy ig 😭 I'm sure that if I could've muster up the motivation to color these they would look a bit more original but... Y'know :(

I went along with the popular head canon/backstory I see people use with Tail's parents in fanfics often. That they see Tail's as curse, a bad omen because of they way he was born. I would like to add on that they also fear his unnatural intelligence.

Of course Tail's was casted out by his parents and his peers and had to fend for himself until he met Sonic.

Rouge's mom.

I've always pictured Rouge with mother issues. Bella is exactly the type of trashy mother to name her child after make-up. I read a fanfic that went into Rouge's backstory and her mom was pretty awful, she was the one that encouraged her daughter's thievery and I've adopted that head canon.

Bella probably either doesn't know who Rouge's father is, that or he dipped out on them.

Bella has always been very critical of every little thing Rouge does. Rouge has grown up to hate her mother and fears that she may have grown up to be just like her.

Knuckle's parents.

Again these are HEAVILY inspired by Knuckle's mom from the Archie comics and Knuckle's Dad from the Sonic 2 movie, but that's because I was unsure on how to design an echidna clan character, so I just tweaked those versions of his parent's. I hope these designs and names I chose are okay, I was afraid of them being stereotypical names.

Mandla was very strict and harsh on Knuckles as he was growing up, he wanted him to be the strongest he could possibly be so that he can grow up to help protect the echidnas and fight for them. He trained him constantly every day and tired him to the point of major exhaustion. (Think like Endeavor from mha maybe?)

Kiana cared about Knuckle's very much and disapproved of the way Mandla treated him, but there was nothing she could do about it. She could only comfort Knuckles anytime he was exhausted or upset.

That's it for the characters I've added. If you're confused as to what I made designs for Sonic characters parent's but didn't make designs for Sonic the hedgehog's parents, it's because I headcanon him to be an orphan. It just makes the most sense to me. I think he's a kid be grew up in an orphanage but ran away to go his own way when he was ten, nobody could catch him anyway lol.

It's nicely cold night outside as I'm walking alone heavily drunk. Having fun at girl night out at the club, it's exciting.

I yawn quietly from the exhaustion as I keep walking, the heels are killing me as I clumsy take them off, I yelp in pain as I fell onto the floor.

“ ouch…. I should of called a taxi.. ” I rub my lower back as I sigh softly, my friends did ask me if I need a ride home and me being stubborn person, I politely decline their offer. 

As I rub my back little more, I hear a voice. It's ran a chill down my spine as I hear it..

It's soft spoken, a raspy voice echo, it was near by. I can't tell who or what.

“ what are you doing sitting alone darling? ” it's sounds like male voice but this voice sounds soothing like a warm blanket wrap around me as I look around.

There no one around, feeling a bit paranoid, I much of drink too much.

I slowly get up as the night is getting dark, who was that… I don't know why but his voice sounded nice.

I keep walking to my routine to my house, luckily it's couple of blocks from the club.

Still I have a odd feeling.. I look around for anyone following me, there no one up at this hour.

It's one in the morning, I walk into an empty alleyway as I look behind me, there no one here.

Maybe I'm hallucinating things maybe that why I hear a voice, I scream out in pain as I realized I step in glass.

I should of wear my heels because this is bad, I lean on the wall as I think of something fast.

“ aww you poor thing. Do you need help? ” I gulp there that voice again a gut feeling that I should leave the area immediately.

“ you're losing blood… mhmm you smell so sweet. ” I start to panic feeling like this thing sounds dangerous, I pause in fear as I stare at the dark silhouette that standing in front of me as I feel my breathing is harder to control.

Growing bright red eyes staring at me as I feel like my body couldn't move, I couldn't speak.

“ what? Cat got your tongue darling~ …..” he coming closer as I feel his aura is dangerous, everything about this thing is terrifying.

He grabbed my chin as he pull me closer to him, letting my neck be exposed by him. He had very long white haired pure as the snow, his eyes are sharp but it looks soft like delicate feather. The maroon eyes stare into my eyes as I feel sweat running down my skin to see his fangs out as he speak softly.

“ let me drink your blood sweet girl~.”

Then a loud buzz woke me up as I begin to cry out… was it a dream? How did I get here, I started to touch my neck area, there nothing as I begin to blush.

Who was that… he look like he doesn't belong here, the outfit look different then model outfits. It's feel odd, he was like wearing what I believe belongs to the 19th Gothic wear.

The cloak, the dark deep reds and blacks, the way he looks at me.

I slowly realized the loud buzzing alarm was my phone as I grab it, I quickly turn it off.

It's puzzle me, how did I get here, who was that man.. there was no time for questions as my phone was ringing as I see it was my best friend uraraka calling me.

“ hey girly!! How did you sleep? ” I smile as I got up and stretched. 

*Yawn* “ heya good morning Ochoa-chan, I slept okay.. I think I had an odd dream. ” I hear her concern gasp.

“ oh my god girl what happened?? ”

I walk into the restroom to brush my teeth.

“ well you remember our girl night out .. I was walking home drunk. ” she hum softly as she listens to me talking.

“ there was a tall white hair man that look out of place like he was in medieval times…. He was asking me if I was okay” she gasp as she speak.

“ oh wow that does sound interesting… was he's gothic?? Maybe he trying to help you.”

“ no like this man was weird, talking about how my blood smell good when I got hurt with glass in my foot. ” I pause as I quickly look at my foot, it's gone.. there no cuts or any signs of damage as I feel an unease in my belly.

“ is there any cuts? Are you okay?!? ”

“... uhh yeah it's look fine, I don't have any cuts.. I will call you later uraraka-chan because I think it was just a dream.”

“ yeah I agree, take care ____-chan, we’ll talk more when we hang out again. ” I hang it up as I think about it, that had to be a dream, it felt realistic but I remember walking home that night.

Why… do I bearly remember anything in that happened after he grab my chin…

Everything was strange, I feel like my head is hurting from this, I finished with brushes my teeth, I used the restroom.

Begin to have a normal day maybe it's was nothing, it'll go back to normal.

Everything will be fine…. Right.

I should called momo if she and others want to hang out again today, it was so fun hanging out with the girls.

I pull out my phone to call momo.” hey girly!! We should hang again today, I was feeling bit odd from last night and I wanted to clear my mind.”

She got worried as I explained to her what happened.

“ ahh I understand, we can all hang again, do you wanna have a lovely panic with us dear? ”

“ yes please, I need to forget that dream.. I'm not sure if it was a dream. ” I sigh heavily as I look at the clock.

“ we should get breakfast, have you eaten anything? ”

“ no I haven't eaten but I'll pick you up, we get the girls for morning breakfast. ”

“ yeah that sounds great, I'll take a quick shower and we'll head out. ”

“ ok sound like a plan!! See you soon ____-chan. ”

so, I dunno if you typically answer questions like this, as it seems like most of your Asks are related to dissecting the manga, but!

in your opinion, what's the best way to write a post-canon fic without getting wrapped up in keeping it loyal to the still-unfolding story?

for context: i'm writing a (potentially long) post-war-arc fic at the minute, but seeing as how the arc is still ongoing, I'm finding it challenging to not stop and rewrite and every time i learn something new. perhaps this is a stupid problem to have lmao, but you seem so good at untangling the MHA narrative threads, so I guess I'm just curious if you have any tips for folks trying to weave 'em in our own way?

So if you think about it, there are plenty of great post-canon fanfics out there that were written without the full context of the series. The lack of information those stories have about the end of MHA does nothing to hurt those fics.

You have several options really. You can commit to adapting your story in future chapters to what may happen in the MHA canon as it goes, but that's a pretty difficult path to take. I started my fanfic based on the assumption we would eventually learn AFO's real name, but now I'm realizing I'm going to have to come up with a solution to the possibility he may have no other name. You could pick a cutoff point in MHA and write a story that doesn't rely on any information that might come later. You could write based on an alternate set of events to fill in the blanks so that your story is canon-adjacent and divergent. In any case, you have to accept the fact that you're writing a story before the source material has ended.

The real question you have to ask yourself is: what does "keeping it loyal" mean to you? I'd advise you to remember that, no matter what, you're not writing something that will be part of the official canon. That gives you a lot of space to move around. If you try to stick too rigidly to the canon when you don't know how MHA ends yet, then ask yourself what your story is even about in the first place. If your story is so up-in-the-air right now that the important beats in it could change at the drop of a hat depending on what happens in the canon, then you don't have a story; you just have an idea. There's nothing wrong with that per se. Plenty of authors write without knowing where their story is going or how it ends yet.

My suspicion though is that's not your problem. I'm guessing that you're just worried about small details or references to events in the canon that may incidentally occur in your story. To the best of your ability I would advise that you don't worry about such things. Just write KNOWING you will do that. It's a feature of fanfic to do so, not a bug. Anyone reading your fanfic will know that.

So now I come back to the question about what does "keeping it loyal" mean? I am writing an AU fanfic. I have to ask myself often what I care about when it comes to "keeping it loyal" because AUs have the potential to diverge so far from the canon material they're practically their own original stories. In this case, "keeping it loyal" to me is about the characters. When I write these characters, are they behaving in the way I would expect them to in the canon? I've chosen major events in my characters' backgrounds to make them behave similarly to how they would in canon because to me, the appeal of an AU is in seeing how my favorite characters would behave in a new environment. By extension, I've also chosen some events to happen in my fanfic that maintain similar themes to the canon. My characters may have to change some from their canon counterparts based on the specific events that happen to them, but there is a core vision of the canon in my heart I always try to come back to.

It's a lot easier to keep that distance between my story and the MHA canon because I'm writing an AU, and that helps me to answer your question because the obvious things my story and the canon have in common are the characters and the story themes. Those two elements would be my answer to you. The line becomes grayer when you're writing a story set in-universe to the canon. My best advice is to not get caught up in those details. It's far more important that you write and get out your ideas. You can always come back and edit things later, EVEN AFTER PUBLISHING. That's the forgiving nature of fanworks. That said, I personally think canon-divergent/alternate canon stories are supremely underrated, so I would embrace the label. It's up to you if you want to do that or just try to adapt to the canon as you go, but IT'S OKAY if your story doesn't completely match up to the canon. It doesn't make your story any less loyal to the source material so long as you maintain that integrity in other ways. No one is reading fanfic because they expect it to be a rehashing of the exact events in MHA anyways. They're expecting something new, something additional, whether it's an embellishment, a soliloquy, or an entirely alternate set of events.

Just write what's good for your story right now, and everything else is incidental.

I'm very big into anime - I started watching them when I was eleven and never stopped. I watch other animated shows (Western), which I'll list in a later segment.

I'm also into manga, though not comics, (never really knew why, just couldn't get into it). Games, too, mainly RPGs, though I have been into FPS co-op as of late.

Don't judge me: K-Pop. I only really interact/watch content for one group, (will come up later), but I used to juggle between many groups.

As for hobbies other than writing: I'm big into art. Took classes for them and everything. Though this may have been obvious from early chapters of book one.

I've tried to get into making animatics, but I ended up stopping half-way through everytime I started. I like voice acting, though I've only ever done it once for someone I'm no longer friends with haha.

I used to be big into baking, but was never good at it. I'm much better at cooking, though mainly Asian dishes, (due to heritage and such).

My biggest interests... I'll keep it limited to five, else this segment would be much longer.

One Piece, (generic but it's popular for a reason), is a favourite of mine. The writing, world building, characters, relationships, messages, themes - I love it all. Definitely a high reccomendation.

Gravity Falls, because it's just that good? Even the weakest episode would be considered top tier if it was in another series. Dipper and Mabel's relationship is everything to me, and Stan was the uncle I always wanted. Love him.

Fullmetal Alchemist, mostly MangaHood, but the 2003 anime adaptation is great too. It's honestly of the best written works I've ever interacted with, and it makes perfect sense that it's highly rated.

SHINee, the K-Pop group I mentioned before. I'd call them standards for the industry, but then nobody would be able to share the stage with them. I'm a Shawol for life baby!

Finally, Katekyou Hitman Reborn. This was the first fandom I wrote fics for, back on my WattPad days, and I still love it to this day. I wish for the fandom to be revived so I may read the trashy fanfics I once adored and now hide my face in shame to.

Other fandoms I write for: Fairy Tail, though I haven't touched the AU I started in months. My Hero Academia, though only through my Tumblr page @my-rewrite-academia. I've been working on a Persona 5 fanfiction behind the scenes for a while, though I haven't progressed past chapter three.

I have an alt AO3 account, where I've written for MHA, Kuroko No Basket, Persona 5, SuperM, and the Banana Bus Squad (Vanoss and Friends).

My old WattPad has mostly Katekyou Hitman Reborn, and a sprinkle of Fullmetal Alchemist.

Neither of the previous two shall be linked, as I honestly just want to leave behind those fixs behind, considering I wrote them when I was thirteen and nothing made sense.

My favourite childhood show(s): Spongebob, Mr. Maker (only British kids will understand), Pokemon, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Also Sonic Boom, though that was exclusive to my teen years than childhood. The How To Train Your Dragon shows were also a favourite of mine, including Riders and Defenders of Berk.

If movies count, then How To Train Your Dragon, Shrek, Megamind, and Scary Movie(s). Scary Movie(s) sound like a weird thing, and it was. I was in the room with my older siblings when they put it on and never bothered to leave.

Favourite Paladin: Keith. I hope it's not entirely obvious in my writing, as I wish to treat every character equally, but he is my favourite. I relate to him a lot and he ticks a lot of my boxes.

Favourite character: Keith, again. Other than Keith, however, it's Coran, the Gorgeous Man. He's always so jolly despite the heartbreak he's been through, and the writers were able to balance his comedy so well.

(Apart from the Voltron Show where they were clearly running out of ideas and/or time and made him more annoying than funny.)

BIGGEST QUESTIONS:

"What inspired me to write this rewrite–" (first half)

I actually started writing it in 2021, where I went on a three-year break due to losing motivation and my interest dwindling, at the time anyway. I was initially inspired to write it when I grew more and more frustrated with how canon handled many things.

As with many teen shows, I began to wonder if it would be handled better had it been intended for a more mature audience. It didn't help that I read the fanfics before I watched the show, so I had a certain level of expectations that weren't quite met.

I won't blame the writers, as it's usually just two or three people higher-up who make all the decisions. I was disappointed in DreamWorks, not the team behind it who have no choice but to follow orders.

But, yeah. The turning point, what really pushed me into starting and publishing the rewrite, was when I started thinking about how I'd handle each character and each arc. How I'd write different relationships, how I'd write each theme.

From there, I decided to put my money where my mouth was, so to speak.

It was a terrible start, really. When I first started writing it, I only had a vague idea of how I'd go about it. When I came back to the rewrite, the first thing I did was create a proper plan, else it'd just end up like the show - disappointing and missing so much.

I can remember, when I started, I just wanted to write a better story, which is a terrible mindset. This idea that the only thing that mattered was being better than the show is a toxic one.

My mindset is a lot better, of course. I've grown up since then, and spite-writing is something of the past. Maybe there are things I'm displeased with in canon, but I don't allow that spite to control me.

Rather, I feel more enthused, viewing it as more like adding onto what canon missed - filling in scenes rather than being better.

So, consider this a PSA to authors who spitewrite - get out of your minds. It feels much better to write if done with good intentions rather than negative. Words come easier and it doesn't feel like a chore.

Keeping a schedule, first and foremost. It differs from person to person, but having a set schedule of every '—day' helps a lot. It urges me to write, and the pressure helps me more than debilitates.

Of course, others may disagree. For others, having a strict schedule may feel constricting and thus hinder creativity, but it's helpful to me. This idea of, 'I have to do this', 'if not now then when?', helps me a lot.

It's also my longest fic to date, so to stop now would feel like a large disservice to both me and to the people who read each new chapter.

Then there's you! I'm not kidding, either. Comments, now more than ever, are usually so rare.

I once saw a post about an author discovering a discord server where their fic, (which had very little comments), was being heavily dicussed, and people had nothing but praise for it. When they asked why they didn't comment, they said that they didn't feel the need to, or that it would be embarrassing. That they never knew what to comment, despite the praise they had for it.

The author then decided to abandon the work upon finding this out. Because we don't get anything from posting our works. All we ask for is some form of praise or acknowledgement, and comments are just that.

Even if it's [<33] or [This is good!] or even [please update], we appreciate it all. Honestly, the only time I refuse to comment, rather than simply forgetting, is when an author holds fics hostage. The whole, 'I want x-many comments or else I won't update'. At that point, I lose any respect they had.

Comments are our lifeline, yet the idea of asking for comments feels like tabboo. As if we're less for leaving even a small note of, 'comment please', feels like it's asking for too much.

So to have a repeat commenter, to have you, is everything to me! If all else fails, if I can't find the motivation, I often think about those people who subscribed, who have my fic bookmarked, who comment on each update, and I think about how there are people who get excited with each update, who want to know what's going to happen next, who want to see this fic to its end.

It may sound corny, but my biggest motivation really is my readers, and those repeat comments give me life. It helps in ways that I never realised could.
